How would you implement modern horror icons into your games?
>>
>>98376150
>old horror icons were:
>a pedophile
>a clown
Those stopped being scary when everyone realized pedophiles and clowns have been running our government for decades.
>>
>>98376150
I remember someone analyzing it to how zoomers fear alienation and homogenization over physical horror and violence or something like that.

The Technocracy turns their attention away for ONE (1) internal power struggle bordering on an open civil war, and the Masses just go full retard in a single decade.
>>
>>98376172
I wonder how this is reflected in the Dreaming? Suddenly Winter doesn’t seem so bad.
>>
>>98376179

>How would you implement modern horror icons into your games?

Combine the backrooms concept with Danny the Street and then make Danny an Incel, since further marginalizing mental illness is hot right now.

So from that mix, you would have a sapient para-causal space that can change according to mood or whim, which also becomes obsessive over any retard that gets trapped inside it.
>>
>>98376172
>I remember someone analyzing it to how zoomers fear alienation and homogenization over physical horror
I wonder how this relates to isekais going from power fantasies to "I just want a slow life away from the crushing grip of capitalism".
>>
>>98376150
>TQ
I never actually vibed too much with the backrooms despite being in the right age bracket for it. But the idea of being trapped in extradimensional space in general is pretty easy to work into WoD. Just make it some part of the Shadow/Hedge/Umbra/Underworld depending on what game you're running and what best fits the tone. Haven't seen Obsession yet, but I've heard she's possessed and it happens because of a temu magic item that grants one wish. So could be a shady wizard, or something Pentex.

>>98376172
Well yeah, he was actually engaging with the material and drawing conclusions as to why the genre changed, rather than just engaging in the demoralization propaganda that is generation-based tribalism.

Older horror focused on killers because of the growing awareness and prevalence of killers, especially striking in "nice neighborhoods". Now it focuses on social atomization. One's afraid for their lives; the other's afraid for their soul.

>Danny the Street
Is this a mortals splat?
>>98376196
imo it's a similar phenomenon. Isekai power fantasies are about being the cool jock but because being the cool jock is douchey and lame (hypergamy has made 9+/10 chads the enemy of envy) they're instead about cultivating good friends, being a positive influence on the community, and being away from the evil of the
>shareholders

Methinks it's more to do with the state of Japanese capitalism making even dating girls a harrowing prospect since you're (as a nip) competing with rich married sugar daddies and tall/hung foreigners while your elders and boss berate you for being a cuck but not giving you any time to date or have a family. Japan is weird like that
>>98376197
True, I suppose older horror movies fear stories of Dahmer or Bundy and made men and women fear getting raped and murdered as those stories spread and influenced filmmakers, and now zillennials (and some gen alpha) mainly see the decline of culture and the rise of safe horny and safe offensive killing all the soul everywhere. Ironically, the backrooms itself has lost what soul it had to too much lore, AI, and capital.

I suspect future horror trends will go around to sanitized thinking and dominance of the mind, mind control, AI teachers, etc.
>>
>>98376150
Frankly the room is the scariest one out of all of those.
>>
>>98376218
Too busy tracking down my Theurge after the mutt (affectionate) ran off into the woods because of the Glass Walkers.
>>
>>98376172
The millennial horror is absolutely "spooky monster, but actually it's mental illness."
>>
>>98376227
>Is this a mortals splat?
>Danny the Street is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. Danny is a living and sentient piece of urban geography who can magically and seamlessly place themself in any urban landscape at will without any disruption to his surroundings. They can freely interact with any other sapient being through various forms of visual printing within their proximity.
>>
>>98376230
imo the backrooms themselves aren't that scary, just eerie. Nightmare on Elm Street the movie is kinda scary in motion, good directing goes far. And backrooms was well directed, just that it did not often do straight horror. Lot of atmosphere though, many goosebumps.
>>
>>98376234
Is that It or is that some other movie I can't think of right now? There's a few indie films that don't fall into this framework like Blair Witch or the Korean livestreamer one who's name I forgot. Some bigger films too like the Exorcist (which I guess is technically a form of mental illness) and Insidious.

>Danny the Street
It’s a DC character, entity, introduced during Grant Morrison’s run on Doom Patrol. Basically a sentient street. Apparently an homage to a cross-dressing musician, Danny LaRue. La rue, if you didn’t know, being French for “the street”.
>>
>>98376224
Then we should streamline it, since that's what the players want.
>>

Changeling the Dreaming, much like other unintentional philosophical works (Industrial Society etc...) seem to be rather prescient over the future plagues of human society.

Yeah, but just ramp that shit up to 20. Murderous japanese sex bots, awakened sex toys going on a murderous rampage. Death through gooning, etc. Loss of masculinity to a robot succubus, we can go further.
>>98376272
Safe horny is less about age and more about only being allowed to open complement (and not lust for, even) a curvaceous woman of the state-approved body type that is not thin and at a minimum of certain BMI. Essentially, Bayonetta = normal horny, MJ from Spider-Man 2 is safe horny.
>>
I like safe horny...
>>
>>98376302
I think "safe horny" is more like a set of fetishes that normies on the internet approve of, like "step on me mommy", lightly muscled women with abs, "goth gfs", shit like that.
>>
>>98376194
>Danny the Street and then make Danny an Incel
Impossible, Danny's gay
>>
>>98376272
There is no definition for safe horny because literally everyone has their own definition of it. It just means "thing I don't like".
>>
>>98376297
The concept of a sapient living space, be it a street, mall or house, isn't new, the house in the Amityville Horror is old as fuck and was smart like a person, so taking Danny and making them into more of a horror set piece (which they arguably already are) in WoD seems to me like an easy reach.
Like what if a particularly powerful Tzimisce decided to just fleshcraft his entire hangout spot?
>>
To steer this into being relevant, the Traditions I believe would find “safe horny” to be anathema
>Cult of Ecstasy
Do I really need to explain this one?

>Verbena
Against it on the grounds that they believe sex, the source of new life, is an animalistic and primal act, and there should be nothing “safe” about. Also, something about the feminine mystique or some bullshit like that.
>>
>>98376323
I thought safe horny was contingent on which way the societal weather vein was spinning at the time.

No, the horror was in how evil and destructive the mechanism for the wish was.

The wish itself was basically just dumb pining with no expectation it would actually do anything, twisted into an exaggerated form while the guy just acted in a fashion to move the story to where it needed to go. It's my-first-monkey-paw movie.

The real horror is just how effective the viral advertising worked.

How does inter-Fera breeding work?

Will their kinfolk offspring be considered belonging to Garou or Bastet or both? I assume the shifter would inherit the form from either parent.

I don't think two full-blown Fera can have kids together

I don’t think it’s capitalism they reject considering how many slow life isekais are about shop keeping or adventuring for loot while under an “adventuring guild” that might as well be a corporation. It’s the oppressive system they are unconciously rejecting. It’s the devaluing and dehumanization they are rejecting.

Both Beast and Geist are confusingly written about this. As a Beast, you are a Horror that has stolen a human's body, and are now suffering under some identity issues as you struggle to reconcile your mind-body dualism. (The same is true for Geists and Bound.)
>>
>>98377167
Damn, I guess I'll go around scaring criminals, like a spooky ugly Batman then

>>98377167

This is patently false, Geist is very upfront about the fact you made a deal with a superghost and you now have them as a copilot/mental roommate. Also your souls are inextricably merged now and trying to separate you is a really bad idea.
>>
I feel like Leviathans are better than Beasts. Even Ahabs are better than Heroes
>>

>>
>>98377189
Geist uses similar language about the soul of the Bound departing and being replaced by the Geist. They are different in that the host agreed to it, but they aren't different in that the previous occupant is no longer there, only the creature, who now believes itself to be two different people but is explicitly not.
>>
>>98377163
I think the original idea was that you're the monster, but the way the book is actually written, you're the human, and the monster is just chilling in the "Lair", and sometimes goes apeshit if you don't feed it.
>>
>>98377197
But that's not the case, the Bound never departs, he's still there, just sharing his skull with a creepy super ghost. Where did you get that impression? Give me a page number.

Beast also has the baggage that you're genuinely unironically a bad person and a predator(whether it's the murder or sexual variety doesn't matter, as long as you're hurting people).
The issue with beast is that at the end of development a retard on the writing team tried to have everything rewritten so the beast are "actually the good guys", despite the above still being the same.
So beasts are bpd creatures that believe moledting that choir boy was good for them and built character.

You will not be batman, you'll be a villain in denial.

For reference,
>In essence, the Bargain, and the attendant merging of the human soul with the inhuman geist

If you go by first edition lore, you are correct, but they changed it in the second edition. Of course, they also changed ghosts in general to be merely psychic imprints on ectoplasm and not actual dead people, which nobody actually plays as being true instead of being a mage delusion pushed by DaveB.

Some vampires can use necromancy, so they can make contact with the Low Penumbra. Some vampires can use thaumaturgy to make contact with spirits of the Middle Penumbra (Up to ST on whether you can communicate with non-wyrm spirits), and that's about it. Some vampires have the psychic power to astral project into the Upper Penumbra.
>>
>>98376343
Common Daddy needs an 8.
>>
>>98377212
>What part does the Umbræ play in Vampire?
Very little.
The middle/upper umbrae are extremely hostile to vampires. There's no mortals to feed on, everything that lives there hates you, and you can get ashed by a walking sun-spirit because their light counts as "The Sun" for the purposes of vampire weaknesses.

Ironically, the low umbrae/underworld is comparibly safe. Necromancy can let you feed on ghosts for ghost-vitae, the sun doesn't do shit there, and vampire necromancy lets you insta-bind any low-level wraiths that get uppity. Just avoid ferrymen and deathlords.
>>
>>98377197
I think what the book says is that the soul is gone and is replaced by the Geist, same thing with Beast. But in CofD, the soul is not who you are, if you steal someone's soul and replace it with a different one, they remain the original person the whole time.
>>
>>98377271

>Garou + Kitsune Kinfolk = Garou Kinfolk/Garou
>>98376861
>but bastet kinfolk is not a seperate minior splat to garou kinfolk
Actually, they are. The back of the corebook has a qna session where it explicitly says kin to one fera count as vanilla humans to another.
"Kinfolk" is a breed specific template. A garou fucking kitsune kinfolk can only make more kinfolk. You can also have separate purebreed scores for multiple different tribes fera types simultaniously according to the Possessed book.

The part that talks about kin/kin pairings in the core qna is also interesting, because that 1% true breeding chance stacks and the fera type is then rolled. This means a theoretical kinfolk to every fera breed has a minimum 10% chance of breedting true, then a d10 is rolled for fera. Fera can also be kin to other fera.

>TL;DR: The optimal strat would have been for fera to fuck each othet until "Kinfolk" was universal to every breed.

Probably more than ever. If the fera didbthis pre-war-of-rage, then that mean the garou would have been killing any non-garou shifter that their kinfilk produced.

In fact, the garou would probably be the only shifter race with garou-only kinfolk since they'd have killed off so many other shifters and gated their own kin from other shifters for so long. The kinfolk "gene" for a specific fera dies out after only 3 generations of not introducing another kin or shifter of that fera into the bloodline.

Jumping off my previous post, my group is in the early part of a HtV game, and I've noticed, unlike all the other WoD games I've run, time is absolutely a thing.
The time passing for rolls like research and hacking add up in a considerable way. They spent almost 6 hours just kludging together clues from a murder scene to find a possible lead.

90% of a Hunter's time is investigation and setup, yes. The actual Hunt itself needs to be impactful, quick, and horrifying since your average normie hunter has pretty limited staying power relative to everything else. You can still have supernatural shit happening, but it shouldn't be part of the main hunt and either a confrontation with a minion, an associate, or running away from the quarry for being unprepared.

Which they also suck at doing, hence Pentex snowballing from a literal single oil company (smol) to a multi-industry giant. No doubt partially because Glass Walkers keep giving away their kinfolk after pumping and dumping them.

neverborn are that big of a deal, as far as we can tell with non stated beings that are meant to be too powerful to be encountered although it should be mentioned that the one time they are compared Set is put on the same level as Grandma which would put antes a level above neverborn, but that's ToJ stuff

onceborn however are meant to be a entire league below the neverborn they are just the favored spectres given somewhat of a identity again because a eldritch being was amused by their service
>>
>>98377477
>It's almost like they were meant to work together...
There's a reason queen ananasa throws that idea in the trash and just exterminates all shifters(ananasi included) in the scenario where she's freed. The fera aren' worth the effort of saving at this point.
>>
>>98377562
Nta but everyone knows the Fera are kind of retarded (and that's why they're liked), there'd simply be no game if it was instead
>Fera: the Corruption
And all you do is manage other shifters and "corruption" when it pops up but it's a non-issue because there are 20 million of you and you literally have superpowers so it's basically just a vehicle for you to explore human drama like arranged marriage and power imbalance in relationships (aka, it's just fucking Vampire 1.5).

I don't disagree with anons who point out that it's part of the reason they don't like werewolf but I also think that their revisions for how Fera as a whole should be would basically loop around to a much more boring Masquerade clone or it changes into an even gayer and overdone concept like "the council of paranormal leaders" and "this country has a bunch of werewolves in it and this country has a bunch of vampires in it because they both unified and want to murder each other."

It's not an awful idea for a setting, but it doesn't fit with WoD. There's no room for le whacky conspiracies or the mixture of
>stupidest shit I've ever read
>wow this guy is a 500 IQ genius
both within the same page. There's probably a reason the only unified splat (Mummies) are limited to a microscopic amount of individuals at a time.

iirc Vampires in general or some people are banned from the Umbra in general and there's a lot of spirits in there that probably hate them for existing, so while sending them into a micropocket like a derelict apartment building that had a *lot* of murders in it might be able to send them to a part of the umbra, your guys might get lynched by a mob of spirits.

The point kind of is if the Garou are more or less holding the line at 12k then you add the rest of the Fera onto it and there's almost no reason Pentex should be as big as it is. It'd be unironically too hopeful especially since the Garou could basically just focus entirely on fighting instead of the things they suck at like kinfolk management and community building. I'm not against the idea, but it also makes Werewolves themselves less unique if everyone else can be a werewolf++
>>
>>98377849
This is more about a secret society of militias communicating with each other to share knowledge about the supernatural. A 2-dot ritual is perfect, especially if you can learn it via Enchanting 1 + Ritual, makes it accessible, comparatively speaking. At least I think that's how it works.

>>98377883
to be fair you can keep it at 12k shifters overall if that's what you care about. You could also simply increase the number of BSD. You could also power up Pentex. You could do so many things. That's not really the problem. But yeah it's sort of the point that Garou can not get along with other Fera, though you could certainly bring back the other Fera without fucking the setting.

Really, you could give Garou a lot of wins without it impacting the setting. To be honest the way it's portrayed in any sort of cross-splat interaction woofs literally do nothing. Like, nothing at all. They are complete jobbers. You could quadruple dog feats and you'd be left with 0. All they exist for is methuselah aurafarming by slaughtering them by the pack or otherwise roflstomping and humiliating them.
Aside from the Impergium and the War(s) of Rage, they also don't really do much negative nowadays, because that would need to be balanced out by them doing literally anything positive.

Woofs are kind of under the worf effect constantly because they're baseline very powerful
>>
>>98377986
This is honestly the truth. In games other than Werewolf the Apocalypse, Garou exist to be victims of the Worf Effect. They're so big and tough and scary that they only exist to be beaten up people bigger and tougher and scarier than them. This is even true for the community surrounding the game, who love to use Garou as a way of demonstrating how this build or that character is so powerful. Even in their own game, the quickest way to show that a character means business is to have them wipe the floor with a pack of Garou.

The most notable canonical example of this is probably the Week of Nightmares, where a werewolf perspective is included exclusively to have the werewolf piss himself in terror at the sheer scale of the conflict, before he promptly gets annihilated by a spirit nuke.

Beating up Garou is the quickest way to look cool. The only exception to this rule is the Lupines of VtM, since quantum werewolves are supposed to be a genuine threat that keeps games focused on cities, but even they are often slaughtered wholesale as an example of how badass some vampires are.
>>

>>
>>98378068
It's not even bait at this point, it's just a ritualpost that happens whenever there's a conversation about Werewolf.
>>
>>98378046
I remember there are characters who either professionally hunt or bait Garou into their lair to kill them (as Vampires) or mass enslave them and put them in a reservation so they can hunt them. Lupines in VtM aren't particularly intelligent creatures the same way Garou are but they still exist to be victims. I guess this sort of reflects the themes of the game, since Vampires really think everyone else is below them unless they're sipping elder blood directly from the source.

Women be putting women down constantly, and you SHOULD include that in your games.

WtA was when WoD started to lean hard into the 90’s “fuck the Man(tm)” leftism, leaning hard into the environmentalist angle before Mage dove deeper into the broader gestalt. But unlike MtAs, which accidentally left enough room for cooler reinterpretations of the setting, the sanctimonious “mother earth is dying because you drive a car” aspect of woofs is too baked into the splat, which means that, unless you are one of said environmentalists, WtA is basically edgy Captain Planet and there’s not much actually cool stuff outside the Umbra

I guess it is more subtle than a direct message on how capitalism affects the environment or the death of culture under the iron thumb of the shareholder. It's just kind of a bit shocking to me how Dreaming is kind of prophetic in that regard, the 90s were relatively quite soulful and it wasn't until the mid-2000s that the managerial class started being the raging homosexuals(autumn ver) that they are currently.

I think the monkey's paw of Obsession would work best in the WoD setting by making the nexus of the fucked up wishes something like a True Fae sleeping in the bottom of a well that people toss coins into or alternatively a Mage that's lost his mind and accrued a lot of power, who goes around answering people's prayers (he can hear them telepathically from a mile away, and uses Life, Matter, Time, or whatever else to materialize facsimiles of people's desires).

I think the Backrooms could be married to something like the endless mansion from Piranesi as a sort of hinterlands to reality that drives people insane, especially trifling mortals, as they attempt to utilize it. But I find that premise rather boring, found the movie rather boring. Would only be interesting briefly, and probably in a Hunter game or something SCP aligned where the goal is to contain or minimally explore the space before moving on to something else.

Invisible Man (2020) is an amazing application of a classic, and I think needs very few notes for incorporation into a WoD game. The trick would be making your Invisible Man a Slasher from a Conspiracy like TFV who is using tech to become totally imperceptible. The players are hunters or maybe even vampires/changelings/whatever that may think to start they are dealing with a ghost, to then wonder if it isn't an Elder vampire, werewolf, hobgoblin, whatever, and periodically should be made to feel even that they are just going insane. Third act is where it's revealed that what they're up against is actually just an extremely skilled murderer with lots of training, gear, and a bit of tech that pushed him over the edge. Recontextualizes all of the wondering and fear that led to that point, ideally makes them confront the idea that for all the horrors in the world of darkness, they were this frightened by a single mortal man.

We need to do both. It's not like nuclear energy would magically solve all the issues of supermassive data centers, their construction, the environmental effects, or the surveillance disaster of LLMs in general.

Build nuclear power plants in the European world, deport or sterilize all non-Europeans, and use the savings to obliterate LLM data centers/mass surveillance nexi.

As the resident Beast explainer, I'll give a more neutral answer to this stuff. >>98377043 is correct. As for whether you're the horror or the human, the Beast book implies both, but the Player's Guide leans towards the human.

>>98377061
It doesn't eat you if you don't keep it fed, it starts leaving on its own while you sleep to indiscriminately feed by entering people's dreams. This is also one of the main ways Heroes are created. Either way, people are getting hurt, but it's worse if you let it happen. the book also describes the horror effecting your mindset more the hungrier you are, but that isn't mechanically supported. While the monster does eat your soul, it's not as big a deal as it normally is in most forms of media. While I've seen DaveB disagree with this take, the cosmology does in fact devalue the soul, functionally reducing it to a spiritual organ. I'd say it's more accurate to say the horror replaces it. Argueably it actually merges with the soul and doesn't actually destroy it because mages can remove horrors like souls with just the Death Arcana.

>>98377182
Hunger for Punishment is one of the more constructive Hungers, and isn't as difficult to feed as you may think because there's an Atavism that lets you glean that sort of information with a glance. My recomendation if you want to cause the least harm is making friends with other monsters and feeding through Family Dinner. Beasts subtly mindfuck other monsters so they basically view them as friends. It isn't as overwhelming as that implies and mechanically just makes it quicker to persuade someone then it normally would through the social system, but still pretty skeezy. Beasts also instinctively consider them family. Family Dinner lets you feed vicariously through other monsters. Especially because you can feed through something like the Sacred Hunt or helping a mage solve a mystery.

Mage Chantries are realms located in the Umbra, is that not a practice still carried by the Tremere?

I was mostly thinking of having some fun with localized pocket realms and the like, or something akin to shit like the Shadowfell/Plane of Shadow, which is eerily close to how the Penumbra seems to be described (except the Penumbra looks different for each person).

I am sorry for the questions, I am profoundly retarded and the Umbra keeps confusing me because it reads like different dimensions entirely but also it's just one thing, but also it is a physical place you can just go, but also you astrally project there, but also it contains several different other places and one of those places also contain a bunch of completely different realms that are also different dimensions that you can go to.

No anon, that's horizon realms. Chantries can be umbral realms, correspondence pocket dimensions, areas made slightly out of sync with the rest of the timeline, etc. There's generally a type of chantry for every sphere.

Tremere generally go for the correspondence version, showing they never really got over being hermetics of doisep.

>Mage Chantries are realms located in the Umbra, is that not a practice still carried by the Tremere?
no because that's a practice that was adopted after the tremere became vampires back then even Doissetep was just a fancy mage tower in spain they only moved it to the umbra realm of forces in the 15th century to escape the Scourge (proto paradox). If we go with dark age mage the entire order of hermes at the time did not care much for the umbra as their paradigm assumed that magic only reached to the moon, but the backstory of some tremere (that been written before dark age mage mind you) contradict that

the tremere still have a mage chantry in vienna filled with blood bond tytalus mages that they mostly used to spy on the traditions and the sabbat tremere build part of a sabbat temple that reached into the underworld to study necromancy with some other members who followed the path of death and soul, but for the most part vampires don't fuck with the umbra there is little point for them they don't need anything from it and all their food is here

Played an Antiquarian Darkling of the Autumn Court in a Changeling the Lost chronicle, back in 1e. The motley discovered a Loyalist conspiracy to serve up the entire freehold to the Gentry on a silver platter, but it wasn't taken seriously, due to the freehold being pretty dysfunctional and led by a very influential Queen of Winter who refused to relinquish her post with the passing of seasons. So, my character decided to play up the threat of the Gentry and make it seem like an attack was more imminent than it really was, by imitating them and leaving their calling cards everywhere. This involved researching a lot of (made up by the table because it was a fictional city) local legends and doing a lot of heinous shit.
The worst of the bunch was Granny Dotty, an withered old witch who stole away spoiled children to teach them proper discipline. To prevent them from running back to their parents, she would cut off their hands and feet and bake them into a pie that she left for their family. There was no hard evidence that Granny Dotty actually existed, even as a True Fae, but that didn't stop my character from doing some copycat shenanigans in order to strike fear into the heart of the freehold.
Three missing children, three meat pies and one state-wide media frenzy later, the freehold was in open revolt against the Winter Queen and ready to take a stand against the Gentry and their Loyalists.
My guy didn't make it to the climax of the chronicle, unfortunately. He hit Clarity 0 for obvious reasons and was put down by the rest of the motley, once they found out what he had done. They never told the rest of the freehold though.

In anything other than Mage, space is real.
In Mage, the areas of space that are real is dependent on which part of space humanity knows a lot about. So the Moon and Mars are both real, the real of the solar system is a mixture of physical space and the Umbra (etherspace) and everything outside of the solar system is pure Deep Umbra. Reality only becomes solid if humanity at large is well-informed about it.

>There's some evidence that the consensus isn't as all-encompassing as it's made out to be
That evidence mainly comes from mage books themselves. The deep lore outright admits there are earthly foundations and metaphysical constants that DGAF about concensus and that "True Magick" can't undo.
The "Mythic Threads" theory is basically in-universe cope for anything that directly disproves concensus theory. It's circular logic that concensus theory is correct, therefore anything that contradicts concensus Must be actually part of the concensus because concensus theory is correct.

>That evidence mainly comes from mage books themselves.
So much this. The most frustrating thing about mage fans(and some mage writers) is that they blindly believe surface level things about what characters say about the setting, when the books themselves repeatedly show that Mages are oftens straight-up Objectively Wrong half the time.

Verbena and their "magical bloodlines", the technocracy thinking their magic is actually science, the belief that spheres are fundamental aspects of reality rather than a mew meta-paradigm, etc. Mages and Mages as a gameline is about being a 2000's /x/ poster, spending 50% of your time genuinely connecting the dots on secrets the government is hiding, and the other 50% schizoing out about shit that only exists in your head.

I think the issue with a movie like this is it borders on torture porn and even while it's legitimate and likely happened more than once, no one will actually film it. It wouldn't be all that profitable and getting it into theaters is going to be hard. Unless it were an amateur film, I could see a borderline sexual horror trafficking film being made for a few milly.

This stuff more or less exists to explain why no other game interacts with consensus, and why the laws of physics have remained the same since prehistory. It's just there to plug a few plot holes, rather than serve as meaningful deep lore about how all mages are delusional retards.

Anon, you need to understand "Death of the Author". It doesn't matter what the author intended to write, what matters is what they actually wrote.

What WoD writers wrote is a setting where mages are schizophrenic. The fact they didn't intend to write that is irrelevant.

>Anger and Wrath
That's already partially expressed in WtA though. Perhaps not a core theme, but it's present. The main issue with pop culture is that a lot of those aren't adaptable into fun and enjoyable gameplay. Setting up for the full moon for a pack of werewolves might be part of the fun, but now do you handle the ST deciding what characters do during the full moon? You could do the rational Wraith thing and make them swap characters but there's a reason Wraith isn't very considered playable by most parties. A werewolf inside the party arc is best handled when it's just one werewolf and the situation progresses until the party finds or cures the werewolf.

Taken is an action movie that occasionally goes into that. I'm talking full victim immersion, no salvation, no mercy. Complete government and societal failure towards its duties to the victim. Taken isn't a horror film, compared to what we're talking about. There's an undercurrent of parental horror, but it's hardly the entire focus.

You're exaggerating the schizophrenia. I won't deny that it exists, but you're blowing it out of proportion. The existence of earthly foundations and static splats doesn't suddenly mean that consensus is hokum. It's still responsible for enabling a whole bunch of technology that didn't work beforehand, deleting a whole bunch of species which are now physically impossible when they were thriving before, and determining what the planets in the solar system are actually like. That has actually been written. There are far more aspects of reality that can be twisted by consensus than aspects of reality that are hardcoded.

Yeah, that sounds like what I'm talking about. Your POV character gets abducted through a job posting, a modeling/acting agency, or a telethon adoption system. Some scenes of travelling in a dark shipping container and MAYBE being given a bucket to shit, here you can go full grindhouse. Passing through trucks, hearing inspectors outside ignoring your screams. Arriving at wherever it is you are. Being depersonalized, beaten, fluffed up or dolled up or drugged. You hear about the dark gods and devils they pray to. Taken to a hazy party of old men in masks and robes where the character sees the demons and devils through the drugs but, in the middle of the vision, it cuts an uncomfortably close shot of the face of a fat ugly old man orgasming in front of the camera, showing that beyond the theatrics are just perverted old men. Escaping or being broken out, and just when you report everything, the social worker tells you nothing will happen. The TV shows that man on the news with a ton of lawyers dismissing crazy conspiracy theories. Up next: the Friday night game show and an ad about that same modeling agency and clothing brand.

You don't actually need to go full Irreversible with it to have it be horrifying. Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes and Sucker Punch both have it while being relatively mainstream studio productions of their respective mediums. >The existence of earthly foundations and static splats doesn't suddenly mean that consensus is hokum.
I'm not saying concensus doesn't exist. It obviously affects dynamic magic, and posibly fairy magic, but there's too much counter-evidence to the idea it affects anything else.
>still responsible for enabling a whole bunch of technology that didn't work beforehand
No, it isn't. The very ecistence of ststic technosorcery disproves that.
The fact Wevertech exists disproves that.
The fact that there's mundane tech that works in mage reality zones disproves that.
Concemsus doesn't allow or disallow anything new from being invented. Concensus is not what allows science to work. There fundamental physical and metaphysical laws in WoD that aren't affected by concensus and the fact those laws exist is the one and only requirement for science and technology to exist.
>deleting a whole bunch of species which are now physically impossible when they were thriving before, and determining what the planets in the solar system are actually like.
Bygones are in weird place cause there's two other completely unrelated forces doing that: Banality and The Weaver's Gauntlet.
Banality doesn't come from voncensus or even disbelief. Dark Ages: Fae reveals it's magical nuclear follout from the solstice war. Banality is just "The Mists", but poisoned with weaponized remnants of True Faith from baptized changelings turning into dirty-bombs.
The Weaver is also killing off bygones by separating and widening the gap between the umbra and the physical world. This has explicitly killed off a number of mythic species that required both flesh and spirit to survive.
The concensus is one force affecting some of them, sure, but it's one of many.

>>
>>98379974
nta, but that's them. The exact wording is "Honor nothing of human make". Which is subject to some interpretation. You can use something without honoring it, so a moderate Predator King (if such a thing exists), could wear human-made clothes, drive a car, go to a restaurant, so long as he's not respecting it.

There's also the fact that Red Stick, the most powerful Werewolf given actual stats in WtF, is a Predator King, but basically wipes his ass with the tribal oath. Whenever he comes out of his spirit hibernation, he goes on benders where he pursues sweets/candy, pussy, and alcohol in that order. He may or may not go on a massive killing spree afterwards.

>>98379897
>static technosorcery
>weavertech
Why does the existence of this static magic disprove the fact that consensus can impact the functionality of mundane technology? They're items that function due to static magic, they're not mundane tech.
>mundane tech that works in mage reality zones
Advanced technology (which is distinct from technomagic) tends to backfire and refuse to work in deep wilderness, primal nodes and the Old Roads. Read up on your reality zones.
>Bygones are in weird place cause there's two other completely unrelated forces doing that: Banality and The Weaver's Gauntlet.
What determines whether a bygone is allowed to exist in an area is determined by what reality zone that area counts as, which is governed by consensus.

I'm not trying to say that other splats need to acknowledge consensual shit, I'm fine with it being kept to its own game, but you're insisting that all mages are wrong about the fundamentals of their world even in the context of Mage as an independent game, based off of your own subjective reading. It's sort of like arguing that Noddism isn't real in Vampire the Masquerade, when it serves as the foundation of the setting's deep lore.

If you really hate consensus shit and want it out of your game, even if you're playing Mage, then go ahead.

I just think that insisting that consensus only governs magic goes against what is written, and what is written that even cutting edge "real science" like cybernetics, clones and even economic systems all have a habit of backfiring because people just don't believe enough in them. That's right, the only reason why communism didn't work is because the Masses didn't believe in it hard enough.
>>
>>98380057
>you're insisting that all mages are wrong about the fundamentals of their world even in the context of Mage as an independent game
The fact earthly foundation and metaphysical constants exist at all disproves the idea that concensus determine everything.
We can argue until we're blue in the face how much the concensus affects, but the simple fact that there is Anything independant of concensus means the core premise Mage began with is already disproven. More than that, the core premise was always self-contradictory to begin with. If there are no rules except concensus, then how the fuck did concensus even occur?
You can keep trying to re-tune how much concensus actually affects, but the moment concensus is no longer everything means you'll eventually arrive at "concensus only affects True Magick" no matter where you start from or how you approach it.

"If you don't adopt the absurd strawman position that is objectively wrong, then you accept that I am objectively right" is a silly way of talking about things.
>If there are no rules except concensus, then how the fuck did concensus even occur?
Plenty of Mage creation myths cover that. For example, the Pure Ones theory posits that the universe was shaped by all-powerful beings who shaped everything through true magic. When they shattered, the shards of their essence were embedded in the souls of humanity and that's why humans are able to shape reality through consensus. You have read the lore of the setting that you're talking about, right?
>>
>>98380163
>Glasswalkers have bionic tits

NTA, but concensus doesn't really even make sense. The writer's idea for concensus relies on 99% of the world believing a western reddit materialism ideology. Over 70% of the world believes in complete unscientific nonsense and large parts of it don't even belive in technology.

WoD humanity is supposed to be dumber and even more supersticious than IRL. If concensus worked the way the books say it does, then bygone wouldn't even be inconvinienced and most mages would be openly spellcasting without worry of paradox.

Look, man. If you don't like the setting, that's fine. I've said it before, I'll say it again, I'm not trying to shove consensus into Vampire or Werewolf or any other game. But within the context of Mage, reality is consensual.
>>98380229
If God made the universe, who made God? Where did the Big Bang come from if the Big Bang made everything? What came first, the chicken or the egg?
You're asking the age-old question of "if something made the universe, what made the maker." There's no satisfactory answer to that.
But for the Pure Ones, the answer is Prime. The Pure Ones theory posits that the universe existed as a singularity of Quintessence from which the Pure Ones emerged, with the power to shape that Quintessence using their true magic.

Very famously so. When Mages' magic started failing them in like 1300 and they were at risk of becoming muggles, Tremere (who was very old) was personally at risk of becoming a corpse in the ground, so he made the jump to vampirism and fucked the Order of Hermes on the way out. Mages survived in the end, but then in 1999 he did it again just for fun.

Garou gf edition 2: the disney reboot

>metis gf (most tribes aside from BG, CoG and GW)
Has a ton of self esteem issues due to constant mistreatment and infertility, their deformity may make it worse depending on how severe it is. Extremely loyal but also just as clingy, breaking up with her might cause her to fall into harano. Likely has a praise kink. Will do pretty much anything you want in bed
>black furies
Feminists at core, will be very suspicious of you at first and you have to prove how much you respect women to change that. Depending on the fury, that can range from just being a typical good bf to fully believing women are superior at everything (most lean slightly towards the later). Is surprisingly nice and very loyal if you earn her trust, but don't expect to be in charge of anything after you start dating her. If she starts talking about having kids, that means she's very much into you (and you can't leave her anymore). Vanilla but energic and dominant in bed, though a few might indulge in breastfeeding you
>bone gnawers
Street smart girl who pretty much does whatever she wants whenever she wants. Questionable hygiene and regularly drunk, but somehow still pulls guys by the dozen (decent chance she has a metis pup from an ex). Fairly easy to hook up with but hard to keep as she gets bored easily and seeks another man. Some are loyal to the point of being possessive instead. Will actually respect your opinions for the most part either way. Will do pretty much anything in bed (especially if you bring money or booze), but be careful, she rarely remembers to take birth control

Funny that he did it because his immortality potions stopped working as well as they did, probably making him look like Sheevs after he blasted windu with lightning. I guess for mages that's like something of the Norwood Reaper.

>>98380746
I'd recommend it, Fate proper (and Tsukihime but only the manga) and KnK/Garden of Sinners and Witch on the Holy Night are top-tier entertainment. Say what you will about Nasu and his willingness to R63 King Arthur, but the man can write when he's not huffing his own farts and coming up with funny nonsense like Imaginary Numbers domain or Bounded Field or Origins or Reality Marbles/ Marble Phanstasms/ Etc.

Mahoyo (Witch on the Holy Night) is commonly considered on the best VNs ever made. The animes are good enough though desu, but I'd stay away from all the spinoff material.

>children of gaia
Hippie girls at heart, she lives to spread Gaia's love and look and act the part. Spends most of her time doing activism for whatever environmental/social justice cause is available in her area. Available for quick hookups, but will only date if you are willing to join on her protests/charity work/etc... regularly. And some might ask you to join her polycule or make the relationship open (expect her to have had a metis cub in before in this case). Will treat you extremely nice either way and is hard to anger, but Gaia have mercy on you if you somehow actually piss her off. 60/40 on if she wants kids or not, metis will usually want to adopt one. Open minded in bed, but usually dislike bdsm
>fianna
Loud and big irish gals who are almost certainly capable of outdrinking you. Has a warrior's heart, but also quite domestic in between battles against the servants of the Wyrm. A believer in true love, if she approaches you to date there's a good chance the relationship will last long. Needs a lot of attention in bed, though, as spending too much time without banging her might lead to her drunkly bedding one of her packmates that she won't remember in the morning (relatedly, if you see a metis who looks oddly like her, do not bring it up). Otherwise, extremely loyal. Almost certainly will ask to have kids if your relationship goes long enough. Vanilla but extremely energetic in bed, and also the one most likely to sit on your dick in crinos form
>>
>>98378143
>>98380796
as uncle ted shows you can do the wyrm and industrialism as bad without environmentalism by showing pentex as an example of industry and capitalism gone mad with the goal being control and subjugation, destruction of the planet through taming it, killing off anything to wyld and uncontrollable, make humans in caste serfs while the elites get the true benefits of industry while the chaff get the recycled bane infested slop. The environmental angle can still be played if you set your game in china or india where they actually make their rivers undrinkable lol

>get of fenris
The quintessential warrior women (don't tell the black furies, tho), both in looks and attitude. Demands you to stay in top shape and that you either join her expeditions against Pentex/BSDs/etc... or regularly do hard labor at home while she's away. Very dominant, but unlike black furies she won't hate you if you push back from time to time (it might actually turn her on, even). Be careful, if she gets too angry she WILL kill you (with varying degrees of regret afterwards). If you can keep up with her demands, though, she will be the most loyal garou gf you can get and will respect you. Will want kids if your relationship lasts long enough. Mostly vanilla, but into light bdsm play, also likes to mate in crinos
>glass walkers
Wise guys: conservative catholic italian women in body and mind, with all the good and the bad that it entails. Similar mindset to the fianna, minus the alcoholism. Her father will brutally murder you if you make her cry
Corporate Wolves: emotionally detached girlbosses who cycle through bfs like dresses. Will pamper you heavily for the brief time you are together, though. Most don't really want kids. Kinky as fuck
Cyberdogs: crazy mad scientist gals who have a lot of implants, many of them dedicated for sex. Expect smallest breast size to be D and your best bet at finding a futanari. Extremely kinky. Regarding kids, either completely averse to having them or want to pump them out by the dozen
Other camps: assorted motley of punk and nerdy gals who are very casual about relationships. Don't really cheat, but unlikely to date you for too long. Low but not zero desire of having kids. Also very kinky on average

Speaking of Dreaming, anyone find it crazy the metaplot just left off at the start of the Second Concordia War. Like, open war clashes were starting, Nobles were turning American Duchies into borderline police states due to paranoia, and an army of Commoners, led by a Redcap of course, was going around enacting TOTAL NOBLE DEATH, and the line just ended.

>red talons
Suffer from extreme anxiety over being attracted to a human and heavily struggles to reconcile that with her tribe's mindset. Still loyal to you anyway, but tends to be quite domineering as a cope and can be quick to frenzy as a result. Only really horny on her heat, but will be extremely so on that particular period. To further add to her inner turmoil, she really wants to have kids with your but is also terrified of what will happen if she gives birth to a human. Will do pretty much anything you want as long as she doesn't have to shift into homid form
>shadow lords
Manipulative femme fatales who only see you to use you as either a way to advance her schemes or as a side relief on the field. Getting a serious relationship with you requires having noticeable power she can use in some form (and she still won't respect you) and her love requires you to prove you can be just as underhanded as her. She likely still sleeps around to gather information or to persuade assets. Will want kids if that benefits her in the sept's politics. Extremely kinky, a few can rival even BSDs
>silent striders
Exotic egyptian looking woman who will likely only stay around for one night before hitting the road again. Is actually very loyal if you are able to leave your old life and join her in her wandering across the world (and aren't scared of ghosts). Be prepared to meet one of her exes on the road, though. Calm, but saying anything nice about vampires will send her into a frenzy. Will want kids if your relationship is solid. Very kinky, knows the best places for "exotic experiences" wherever she takes you

I can guess some though. Qualmi Bastet are unironic pump-and-dump hookup whores while Simba Bastet would be bisexuals who want a long-term polycule with multiple women and one man but will expect you to be able to satify them all and demand you keep in absolute peak condition at all times.
>>

>silver fangs
Beautiful but distant noblewomen, tend to be stickers to etiquete rules and don't show her emotions often. Vanilla in bed for the most part
If you are SF kin: unless you are her childhood sweetheart (where she'll be happy and very loyal) she'll be distant and unlikely to be interested in you. Will have sex strictly to have the the pure breed 5 baby her entire family is expecting and is likely cheating on you.
If you're not: she'll be warm but distant, living in constant fear of being discovered with her forbidden romance with a "commoner". 50/50 on if she'll defend you if you are caught. Will refrain from having children with you to maintain her standing with the tribe either way
>stargazers
Has the looks of an asian gf but the heart of a martial arts movie protagonist. Smart, but eccentric, likes to sprinkle koans in conversations, occasionally fakes ones to tease you. The hardest to anger and least likely to kill you if you do piss he off, but you will be in pain for a week in that case. Loyal, can rival black furies in how motherly she can be and will want to have kids if your relationship endures. How kinky she is varies on which brand of buddhism her sept follows
>utkena
Can be any flavor of women as long as it's not white, but is usually some kind of native american. White guys need to work extra hard to date them and her sept will be extremely suspicious of you in this case. She's also prone to failing to show up due to her spirit related missions. Avoid dating bane tenders unless you want to risk a sudden fight to death with a giant bane while banging her. Very loyal, even to a white bf, though he has slight less chances to have kids with her (due to family pressure). Wide range of kinkiness, but be careful with the kinky ones given who she usually learns her "new bed tricks" from
>>
>>98381055

>wendigo
Stoic native american gal who's quite xenophobic against whites. Winning her heart as one requires long tortuous trials, usually involving surviving in the cold. Her fellow tribesman have it much easier, but still have to prove their worth to date her. Very loyal once you win her heart, even as a white guy. Similar in temper to the black furies, minus the misandry. Wants kids with you usually, but whites will have to do a lot of convincing (to her AND her family) for that. Vanilla, but likes sex outside in the winter
>black spiral dancers
The most psycho women you'll ever see around, appearances range from true scottish beauty to horror movie monster, leaning more towards the later. Gaia have mercy on you if you catch her attention, for you will be raped and painfully, with the chances of survival being low. Saner ones might keep you alive but will still demand you to join the local wyrm cult (getting a job at a Pentex subsidiary is not enough for her) and go along all their fucked up rituals until you too become a crazy apocalyptic cultist. Her mood swings heavily, no matter what derangement she has. Is allergic to monogamy, but don't mind if you fool around as well (unless her derangement makes her extremely possessive) 50/50 on if she wants kids, but good luck finding a time where she's not carrying a metis in the womb. Very, very, VERY kinky, you name it, she likely has done it

Took longer than expected, but I had fun. Hope you enjoy it

I don't think most Americans have a "serious" belief in the supernatural. There might be a lot of people who selfishly believe they're owed divine intervention because they go to church on Sunday and who might believe in ghosts and demons and possession if asked, but I don't think they commit a lot of thought and effort to their spirituality. They rarely use any sacramentals other a crucifix and their only daily prayers are the dinner table grace. It's lip service. There's only ten or twenty million whose lives are truly ruled by their spirituality and in such communities, faith does hold a lot of power, at least in the context of Mage.

No they're not. Mass migration is a threat on an evolutionary level, you utter mongoloid. You cannot overcome base psychology with happy thoughts. The people who are pushing LLMs are the same people that wants unrestricted import of literal billions of low-income wage slaves with ~80 IQ that cannot ask questions and have no loyalty to anyone, and that cannot form functional unions/corporations/syndicates because diversity directly undermines interpersonal cooperation at a workplace level. They also directly use the rise in crime and violence to push panopticon solutions that primarily restrict the freedoms of the preexisting already law-abiding populace and their ability to oppose the political class.

You are a victim of lies and propaganda that fall apart even at a cursory examination of the underlying logic. Stop being retarded.

You don't have to cope and be a samefag, you could just say "My bad I'm retarded and cannot spell".

on one side the novels go totally go off the deep end later and degrade into something barely readable

on the other... nobody has heard of the tv series before they started to promote the actual music from the vampire lestat part of the story

like even i hadn't heard about it and i own every book from the series some even signed by rice i am THE target audience

kote actually never got translated only vtm and a few bits of mage did

and nasu very famously does not speak english at all to the point where is company has paid money for translations of source material they could use for their gatcha game

actually a bit more got translated into japanese
>http://pirokiwod.web.fc2.com/WoD/
VTM, WTA, Mage, WtO, CTD, mummy, DTF all has most of their catalog translated but the links to the offical books are now dead because the publisher lost the license when they didn't want to do v5 and paradox found another company meaning they aren't sold anymore there at all and given how the japanese are against piracy paradox pretty much killed them all and you been right there was no translation of KoTE (or hunter)

what you said is however true for Nwod only VTR 1e got a full run in japan and flopped so they didn't bother with most of the rest

now for typemoon i said it before but the timeline doesn't work the first vtm book only got translated in 1997 and Kara no Kyoukai and old Fate been already fully written by then and mage which most people say Kara no Kyoukai got inspiration from only got translate in 1999 a year after KnK already started releasing at comiket

by the way for those who know japanese or trust online translation (i can't be arsed to translate right now) the website also has a bit of fan content like city settings made by japanese fans and explaination on how factions like the technocrats or cainite clans (remember no KoTE) work in japan
>>
>>98381160
>Every single entry is like "she fucks around or used to fuck around. She will either dom you or fuck off after fucking you". Its really depressing.

>>98382201
i feel like he would have mentioned it given how open he is about how servants in fate have stats and resist powers based on them because he played dnd 2e and they hombrewed it to work in a urban setting and how that didn't worked for them so they made their own game

he actually trademarked this homebrew game which his fiction setting allegedly is based on under the name "Tetsu no Monsho" but he never released it

You have the simplistic dualistic view of things, the poor innocent victim vs the evil rich man, kidnappings and ritual murders, reality is always more nuanced.
Has anyone actually tried really reading some of the Epstein emails? Read and cross reference the names, search for them on the internet, modelling sites, instagram and you can find them well and alive getting work as top models, it seems that many got what they were looking for out of the exchange.

Considering how everything else is in W20, it seems too simple for spirits to just roll Willpower to hit things, and Rage to determine damage if the hit connects.
And is it just bashing without a Charm to upgrade it?
>>
>>98382434
Spirits have incredibly simple systems.

Honestly, they are pretty fragile.
Like, 50 Health sounds good until you realize a punch with 7 damage and a fireball with 7 damage is the same for you and every Charm used will lower your Health.

I still remember the first time I used a powerful Nexus Crawler as the Big Bad. 3 players chewed them up and spat him out like kitkat. Worse, if he was materialized, it would have been over in a single turn.
>>
>>98382263
Spiders fall under the Weaver’s influence, that is just making it more explicit
>>
>>98382648
Okay. Garou can mincemeat a 50 essence spirit. And the spirit is gonna spend 5 a turn on charms. Sure. But that spirit still has about 16 ish soak or something. And with the armor charm..
That's an insane amount of durability and not "honestly pretty fragile". The only thing tankier than this are retarded minmax builds which players create and bigger, badder spirits.
The only thing holding them back is no multi attacks aside from splitting their (large) dicepools.

I wasn't talking about Garou. My players were 3 Ancilla vampires. One Brujah Menele expy who was all about honorable combat (And Celerity Melee build), one Toreador seductress with a whip weapon pinning for the Brujah and a Nosferatu axe murderer.

60 Essence Nexus Crawler only lasted 5 turns, mainly because Toreador was busy mind fucking the minions and Axe murderer split his attention between killing the minions and dealing damage to Nexus Crawler. At a stage where I handwaved that the Gauntlet was thin enough for Nexus Crawler to do its shit without materializing, and thus wouldn't have a pitiful 12 Health, because I knew it would die in one turn otherwise.

>>98382966
This.. doesn't really change the point. If it had been anything else it would have been super fucked. So spirits aren't really fragile so much as whatever you threw at it had insane damage per turn.

It's a rank 1 gift for two tribes, Bone Gnawers & Fianna but I'm sure there's variations.
Presuming that gift is taught to 1 in 3 pups of those tribes, and equalizing their population, that should leave just over 5% of the garou immune to to mundane toxins out the gate.
You could reasonably triple that percentage to take into account how those two are some of the most populated tribes in the nation & people learning the Gift.
