1) Now that the dust has settled, which stormcast iteration has been your favourite so far?
2) What, if anything, do you hope they do with them aesthetically in the inevitable 5th edition wave?

They made spearhead to replace it retad. They don't need competing products. Especially when 1 is much better at moving old stock

diminishing value per box
>>
>>98389775
doesn't really feel like spearhead and warcry compete much, at least in my experience. If anything, spearhead's main competition is AoS proper.
>>
>>98389688
sorry, i meant the paladins with spears / protectors, my bad. their spears are great and their rules were cool.
>>
>>98389844
Spearhead and warcry are both "buy 1 box and play" games. Except Spearhead naturally sells unused AoS stock while Warcry demands dedicated kits they often don't know what to do with afterwards.
They tried selling oS kits through Warcry, but it apparently didn't work well enough, mostly because you're limited on what can be in it
>>
>>98389876
warcry was originally supposed to be gladiatorial "teams" themed after the eight realms going at it (which you can still see in the design of the original warbands, e.g. iron golems are from chamon, cypher lords are from hys, ...) before it got refurbished to include all kinds of chaos warbands, then non-chaos warbands, and then also be basically another way to introduce standard refreshes outside of gw's normal schedule like kill team does for 40k Prime example being the gorgers.
>>
>>98389904
I know. Noting you said realy contrdicts me. It was designed to sell individual boxes of new stuff, they later tried to sell old stuff repackaged for it but it didn't work, so they mde a new game where repacks do work
>>
Games like warcry, necromunda nad kill team make sense with terrain that comes with the teams in the big boxes
Removing terrain so you can fuck the limited customerbase without lube ruins the experience
>>
>>98389927
Yeah I just wanted to give some extra conext to what you said
>>
>>
>>98390109
Nah, the terrain should be comprehensive and cohesive. The last Warcry batch of buy every set to have a functional table approach was pure cancer.
Newbs don't want a box whose terrain is some nonsensical random pieces. Older players don't want to buy fomo boxes or scalped splits for terrain.
Just sell a good core set of modular terrain.
>>
>>98390431
>>
>>98389904
>warcry was originally supposed to be
Except before it even launched they said everything would have rules. The initial releases were all chaos but that's it. There was no deliberately intention for it to be chaos only ever.
>>
>>98390445
I think the designer guy on youtube said it was intended for it to just be the realm themed teams at the start, though I think that was changed in development before the final release.

Speaking of stormcast, looks like their spearhead is no longer available on the webstore? That's the only way to get certain models like yndrasta or the vexillor iirc
Wonder if a repackaging is on the way
>>
>>98390904
isn't Yndrasta and other exclusive mdoels fromt eh box sold as its own thing separatly? it's sjut a realy bad deal comapred to the Spearhead, jsut like buying Knight of Shrouds on horse will cost you way too fuckng much today
>>
>>98390904
Aren't Yndrasta and vexillor pretty easy to find on account on being in dominion?
>>
>>98390917
I don't think so, no. Had to get the spearhead, which is just half of dominion repackaged + the chariot.
>>98390926
Of course but it's more curiousity about how gw is going to sell those models from now on. I think they've always been part of one collective box or another. In all likelihood it'll just be the spearhead again but idk you never know. They've been culling quite a bit of spearheads, I think the carnosaur one is gone now too. Gloomspite only have the shitmob one, the regular one also got zapped a while back.
>>
>>98390959
>>98390926
>>98390917
>>98390904
I could see Yndrasta getting slowly phased out, not the first or second time a character stormcast got slowly retired. It's why I am glad that I got Aventis few months back.
>>
>>98390959
I guess they will get their own boxes now. Spearhead rotation is to be expected, they have to sell new boxes. If the rules will stay then I'm more then happy that we are getting new discount boxes, even though the second or third iterations were usually not that appealing
>>
>>98390991
I would say that it is way too soon to squat Yndrasta, but GW is GW
>>
>>98390991
Sacrosanct is a bit of a special case though, they were clearly still experimenting with the stormcast look until they settled on thunderstrike.
>>
>>98391057
It's why I specified character, and not the line.
>>
>>98391044
They might just make a new standalone model for her, that isn't tied to a combined pushfit sprue. Wouldn't be an unreasonable move.
>>
>>98391072
Right, but aventis or whats-her-name being phased out has more to do with them being part of sacrosanct than anything else. I don't think yndrasta has that problem.

how many factions are left? guessing they're gonna drop news of the end of edition campaign book or TLW.

>>98391057
>>98391044
i make it a personal point to inform people getting into aos that their models could have a lifespan of less than half a decade, regardless of what faction it is. Not to dissuade people from getting into the game but it's an incredibly shitty practice from GW and should be made known more often.
>>
>>98391416
Not to excuse gw here but stormcast are a bit of a special case. Usually when gw cancels a new kit like that it actually just means it's getting a refresh (tyrant, wight king, ...), in which case who cares you can still use your old model.
Stormcast are a bit problematic though, as far as we can tell they're going to keep being in starter sets which means they will keep bloating which means they will keep getting periodically culled...
I guess with 5th edition they can just redo all the remaining fatcast stuff (vanguard & extremis) in thunderstrike so you wouldn't have to cut any warscrolls, but after that they better figure something out. Hell they're even squatting some of the primaris marine stuff now, and those guys have 10x the customer base stormies have.

>elden ring uses 'maliketh'

Isn't Malikith/maliketh from swedish myth of something

https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Maliketh,+the+Black+Blade
>>
>>98391777
It's a throne name. In the past kings, especially ancient ones, would change their name upon taking the throne (Or occasionally just whenever during their reign). He was Malekith before becoming the Phoenix king, and now that he is, he's Malerion, which is a halfway between his original name, and the name of his father/the last legitimate phoenix king.
Notable examples of this phenomenon in history include literally almost every Roman Emperor.
>>
>>98391777
>>98391812
They're all allusions to Malkuth, the tenth kabbalistic sefirot of the unbreakable Law
>>
>>98391812
it would be cool if they had this exact lore and would make it not-cringe but I've never seen this in any AoS materials on Male-whatever and his shadow elves.

Incidentally, making Daughters of Khaine rivals of shadow elves was a mistake, because otherwise they could just be subfactions of the malekith-morathi pantheon.

I've heard this before...
SCE for 5th means the bloat train never stops, which means the limited capacity of their warehouses will necessitate pruning and their profit margins grow accordingly so there is zero reason not to
>>
>>98393592
like has been discussed above, if they replace current remaining fatcast stuff then they wouldn't have to bloat things in 5th. If they're still doing stormies in the starter in 6th though, yeah they'll probably cut the fat once more.
Yndrasta's biggest problem is that she doesn't have her own sprue. She shares it with the vexillor and 3 annihilators which is pretty awkward.
>>
>>98393614
They've always sold awkward bundles like that easily as online only releases, it's just an issue of how frequently they're purchased - which must be low given the difficult pitch.

All other "new" armies since have been subfactions of others, redesigns of existing armies (cos), or soup tomes (kruleboyz)

Doesn't work, KO stick out too much, and their entire no-magic, high mobility and shooting, flying boats playstyle is not compatible with traditional dwarfs.

It works with Fyreslayers because Fyreslayers are just...Slayers, basically. An army of aggressive, glass cannon melee dwarfs who use a lot of rune magic works just as well as a regular dwarf subfaction as they did back in Fantasy. Better even, because regular Slayers were kinda asssss rules-wise.
>>
>>98395028

That has nothing to do with anything I said, retard. Aesthetically and gameplay wise, Fyreslayers are much more compatible with trad dwarfs than KO are. That doesn't mean the fluff is the same.
>>
>>98395028
>Doesn't work
yes, it does, it worked with the previous dwarfs having both normal dwarfs, gyrocopters, and slayers, and it would work in a battletome that has normal dwarfs, sky dwarfs and fire dwarfs deploying as combined arms.
>>
>>98395093
>suicidal doomsday cult
Lorelet.
Fyreslayers' are about preserving their societies. Runesons leave the hold to found new lodges, not out of suicidal ideation but with the hopes of creating new footholds for their people to prevent the kind of disaster that the age of chaos brought.
Fyreslayers do however have legitimate suicidal slayers who do so because of dishonour, you lorelet. Doomseekers and Grimhold Exiles.
>>
>>98395535
They are suicidal because their goal, resurecting Grimnir, also brings on an apocalyps in form of resurected Vulcatrix.
Their religion leads them towards a world ending cataclysm

im really torn on lumineth. on the one hand, they have some models that are just immensely superior to the old whfb high elfs. things like light of eltharion, the twins, cavalry characters, a bunch of stuff, i even like the spirit animals, and dawnriders beat the pants off of the old silverhelms.

on the other hand though, i really miss the old scale mail and breastplates of units like the old swordmasters, pheonix guard and sea guard

now that old world has the old plastics available i've been strongly considering doing a hybrid army choosing piecemeal the kits i like from each range, but i am a bit concerned the old WHFB kits might be a bit small or anachronistic compared to the newer lumineth.

>>
>>98396466
Yeah nigga if the sizes match reasonably there's no reason to pick and choose, you've got the parts available to take the elements you prefer from each and create your ideal aeioulf army. Excited to see your loomies in the thread if you do.
>>
>>98396481
Avatar only has 4 elements. But the last UW band had mini uracan, so there migth be other manifestations of the temples
>>
>>98396466
I'm in the same boat as you in the sense that I *really* like some parts of the loomie range (dawnriders, the lightcourser, all the cow shit) but have just about zero interest in the rest. I think as long as you stick to the 8th edition stuff (isle of blood etc), which you will probably do anyway because the older shit is fucking ugly, you'll have no problem mixing and matching. Especially if you exchange sine bits between kits and stuff.
>>
>>98396487
i dont think the size differences are too bad, the most egregious one is the wardens compared to the sea guard. my bigger concern is that the new lumineth all have fairly wide stances so they take up most of a 32mm base, while the fantasy stuff doesnt usually even take up most of a 25mm, they have quite narrow stances, so i do worry that if i put the old fantasy models on AoS correct bases they might just end up swimming in excess basing.

i might just use some adapters and put them on 25s. i might even be able to get 2 games out of the army that way
>>
>>98396460
I'm slightly disappointed, I was hoping it was a fish so I could see how they'd do the mask

>>
>>98397549
yeah warhammer has that reputation for a reason. it might shock you to learn that age of sigmar is actually the cheapest of their full size games to collect (between 40k, aos, old world and horus heresy), by about a factor of 50, and that by virtue of being an elite army with high point costs deepkin are also one of the cheapest in the game to get a full army going.

that said, spearhead which is the smaller faster game mode is about the same cost regardless of army. however, spearhead is not just some beginner tutorial mode that people abandon once they've learned the game, its actually become of the more popular ways to play the game even for longtime players because its fast, comparatively cheap vs a full army, and the speed means that even if you do want to play all afternoon, the games are short enough to get multiple rematches or play multiple different spearheads in the same day, whereas a full army 2000pt game is usually limited to 1 per day since they take several hours, or at most 3 a day for big 12 hour tournaments, usually with breakfast and lunch breaks inbetween games, those are mostly at conventions or stores that are hosting an event.

there are also options if you want to find ways to save, like the reddit or facebook miniswap groups, ebay, and secondhand sites like trolltrader, although you can often find brand new models still in the box or on sprue without the box at a discount compared to retail.

you can also save money by 3d printing

the average 2000pt age of sigmar army at somewhere around $600-800 USD all said and done, depending on the army and playstyle (hordes are more expensive, elite is usually cheaper). i think the old world comes out to roughly similar since they need more models but their battalion and infantry boxes are usually good deals. but 40k and horus heresy easily breach $1000+ just for a bare minimum playable army

but yeah, just be aware of it going in, the sticker shock on warhammer of any variety is fierce.

Meanwhile, I'll find some fucking lot on Ebay of like 6k points for stormcasts 200 bucks or like 1.5k points of whatever the fuck for like a few hundred. AOS is so much cheaper, has better models, only thing that sucks fat dick is a few armys are in the shitter gameplay wise and list building sucks a fat dick. Also I'm not the biggest fan of the borrow power system shit they're doing here.

Does anyone have the White Dwarf with all the cogfort information? I've finally got my hands on one and would like to tinker with it with all available knowledge. Right now the plan is to place a waystone on the back and have it overgrow to fortify the rear. Meanwhile the 'engine' will be placed on top to fuel the gun. The idea being that it's an older model from when they were mucking about with maximum firepower, mimicking the Steam Tank.
>>
>>98398148
Are you gonna put the waystone in the little balloon carriage and have the engine on top? Since the engine is a seperate bit so that's doable.
>>
>>98398151
Yeah! I know the engine is part of what supplies the power to move all the chains. The idea being instead its vines that slowly move and twist to power the machine. I've got the engine assembled, but the gap between the fire pump and pipe is off. Instead the plan will be to create a hose between the two like how greek fire used to have for its pump. Maybe greenstuff a few extra and have them laying about, like how old leather firehouse used to have multiples for when they broke.

I collect GSC (which I buy second-hand and kitbash) and it's a fun comparison. Even Gnoblars, the shitties unit we had that wasn't Finecast, were 130pts while that's 10 above the GSC's "tank".

I've seen 3k of SCE (with the dragon riders and several named characters) sell for $200 on Ebay. It's very hard to not have 1k of an army by accident with very casual collecting. I'm at 600+pts of Khorne and FEC while spending almost half what I shoulda.

depending on if they still exist I found a solid base for a thrott kitbash. I picked up "verminous" from the old Fantasy Flight descent game, snipp off his weird gross face, green stuffed a skaven head in and slapped a third arm on his shoulder.

It's a pretty quick and simple one!

there's no confusion about it, the rumor for the 5th starter set for aos is stormcasts against chaos
>>
>>98399364
I doubt that. As mentioned before reformation had already talked about the tow refresh months before so it'd be less likely for him to not know it was coming for them, plus guys like whitefang back me up have corroborated std being in the starter set. Also that kur6 guy but he turned out to be somewhat sketchy so whatever

The model's only so so to start with but they really did it a disservice.
>>
I just hope whatever in the next set is more customizable than what 40k got with their orks. I honestly like how they handled 11th (so far) aside from the worthless booklet thats in there.

>>
>>98400310
So why are you buying them now?
>>
>>98400321
i just think another fantasy battle style dwarf army is gonna be pretty redundant since you can currently buy that full range from the old world. i mean yeah you'll have playable rules, but do they really need to do the same thing twice?

and i have to say, if Drolf is any indication of the new art direction its gonna be an absolute snoozefest. that was one of the most boring dwarf models i've ever seen

agree on drolf though that dude is boring as fuck
>>
>>98400354
i guess thats fine if they have some emotional attachment to that particular kit or whatever, i just wanted to throw it out there that there are better sculpted and more posable versions of that unit available for print these days.
>>
>>98400347
Amen.
>>
>>98400333
>you can currently buy that full range from the old world
yeah but the minis kinda suck all around. Like I find them kinda distasteful overall from an aesthetic stand point, but even ignoring how they look, the kits are generally horrible to actually put together with having issues of mold lines and gaps. With that being said they might rebrand dwarves in old world too. Maybe make them colder/more norse or whatever.
any ways I fully expect them to not be like traditional dwarves at all, I expect alot more high fantasy elements incorporated in them. At least from silhouette stand point, im sure someone will see a dwarf with a shovel and say they're copying fb and say that fyerslayers have miners now or smth.
>>
>>98400371
Sure, but that's subjective. I think avatars looks dogshit exaggerated and Highlands is too muted. Shieldwolf is too comical. TWW scans are TWW scans never meant to be printed.
I think GW still hold their own.

>>
>>98400570
the kruleboyz half specifically yes. repeated buys are diminishing returns but you can probably buy it twice and still get good use out of most of the models in it, assuming the price is right. most people selling a dominion half are doing so for less than the cost of a box of boltboyz and gutrippaz retail, so you end up getting everything else essentially for free. yeah you are technically missing the banner bearers for the guts and boltboyz, but banner and musician bonuses are so negligible these days that its completely irrelevant
>>
>>98400616
Only buy Magmadroths, other heroes, and Flameseekers given the upcoming refresh
>>
>>98400605
I think it was mostly just GW realizing it was a dead end of a subfaction and made it so that you either have giant bulky metal orks or kruleboyz.
>>
>>98400605
i really think its less the racist allegations and more just that kits just never sold.

so instead they just souped the army concept into a handful of ironjawz units. between these guys, the bone shaman, and the weirdnob you kind of have the cave orc/naked berserker thing somewhat, even if its just a shadow of what bonesplitterz used to be, its enough as far as GW is concerned for a concept that sold 0.01% as much as the next highest bottom tier army

Vulkites are probably getting a replacement unit, and nobody can tell the heroes apart anyway so you'll probably still be able to use them as proxies just fine, but just be forewarned.

It's the exact same limp-wristed handwringing as WotC trying to bury the term "tribes" because it might remind people of spearchuckers, as if Africa is the only place that ever had tribes and voodoo masks. News flash, if someone wants to paint their orcs brown and give them baggy pants and fried chicken getting rid of savage orcs isn't going to stop them.

>Beastsnaggas flopping in 40K

every ork player i know was running 18 of those hog riders and the named hog rider character for 40k for years.

its just the boyz that flopped, mostly because they fill the same role as regular boyz but were less effective based on the characters that could attach and more expensive pts wise, neither of which are good things for what is supposed to be a budget horde unit with T-shirt saves
>>
>>98400710
The squigriders are genuinly cool, and big squig rider man looks sick as fuck. I don't even hate their units, I was more pissed conceptually that they just made primaris boyz for all intents and purposes after redoing the shitty monopose boyz.
>>
>>98400686
I forgot they even had that option all the time
I don't think the new libs have it
>>
>>98400718
40k sales are a lot more driven by competitive meta and rules. like a LOT more. if they had actually been a primaris ork unit that was better than boyz it would have sold out every kit. but lukewarm rules means no one buys.
>>
>>98400722
no but they broke swords off into their own unit with vanquishers.

liberators with swords were only from the full kit if i remember right, and all anyone ever had were the easy build ones from the edition boxes and start collectings. you had to actually go out of your way to pay full box price on liberators to get the swords, which people rarely did
>>
>>98400730
tbf the beastsnagga boyz did sell out around me, I don't think anyone was happy about it. I remember this was back when I was under the impression I'd be a 40k guy so I remember ork players in the thread bitching at the time too.

you are 100% wrong, it is 100% a fire poker, that is such a specific shape and the army has a fire theme, there is zero chance it was not meant to be a fire poker. its even called a "war iron", which references that fire pokers are also sometimes referred to as fire irons since they were typically made out of iron.

I mean is it really surprising that they're cutting some heroes? Fyreslayers have, what, 8 foot hero options compared to only 4 actual units?
