The Saim Hann scheme slaps though
>>
WHO LIKES ORKS? I LIKE ORKS :D
>>
>>98389515
And then Custodes sold like shit. Chuds are actually winning. You also have to remember that GW releases are on a 2-5 year pipeline, usually around 3 years, so when femCustodes were being started things were still close to peak woke. We're still getting the back up sludge out of the pipeline. In a few more years you're going to start seeing 40k getting based again when the out of touch executive retards at the top of the company catch up to the culture which is fast moving to the right.
>>
>>98389514
They’re alright, but you’re correct, Biel Tan is way cooler, especially when people freehand thorns.
>>
Is it based or cringe to paint necrons up like ceramic skeletons?
>>
>>98389525
The new Orks are too silly. Orks are best when they’re edgy and grimdark.
>>
>>98389557
I think that sounds based but do a test model and see how it looks.

its the same thing with death guard. paint them in a darker shade like back in 3rd edition and they’ll look proper grimdark.
>>
>>98389561
Nah, Orks have always had a good mix of silliness and it's part of what defines them as a faction in contrast to other villain races like Chaos (mostly serious, tiny bit silly) and Tyranids (completely serious).
>>
>>98389557
I think non-metallic necrons look pretty cool.
>>
>>98389557
I think it would be very cool but laborious, depending on how it looks. It'd be worth investing time in several test models to see how feasible it is to paint an army like that.

I'm still gonna do dark-gold joints, but I had been planning to do red shoulder pads and accents. But after airbrushing on the brown underlayer and the warm grey on top of that, the bone boy look seems pretty nice. I'm gonna save the red basecoating for last to see how just bone and gold look.

I was planning on using helmeted and Ironkin heads on everything to be safe from the non-bearded heads. I honestly love the TK sculpts. Read and re-read the Army Book back in the day, dreaming of owning my own force. Ended up with Necrons instead because WHFB was dead locally and the store owner refused to stock anything but token, GW demanded things.

That is the sad truth with Votann. WHFB Dwarfs are very nice and have such a varied selection of sculpts over the years. Hope you have been doing better, saw your posts about drinking on and off again in /hhg/ and/or /wfg/ and was worried about you. Love your Bangles and Dwarfs.

When I lived in the city I played games every week since I lived near a good store. I moved a few years ago and there are no stores near me at all. So these days when I feel like playing I set up a game on home made terrain and just control both armies. It's not quite as fun as meeting people and seeing their armies and chatting and all that, but at least the matches are perfectly balanced skill wise lol.

One of the good parts about this hobby is that it gets you out of the house to meet people. Back when I lived in the city I had tons of friends through warhammer and we traveled to events together and stuff. I do miss that aspect of it, and these days I mostly just play online videogames with my old buddies. The moral of the story is that this hobby is a good way to overcome being a loner or anxious. You can set up a game beforehand, so there are no surprises. You're both into warhammer, so you have something to talk about and you don't have to improv. You can do things in a group at a store, so you have other people to help float the conversation, but no store is large enough to have an actually large amount of people so you won't have like large crowd anxiety. So a game store with just a handful of dudes with a game set up ahead of time is a good way to start practicing and getting in repetitions of meeting people and interacting, and repetitions/practice is how you get over that stuff. Socializing is a skill like any other skill, and just requires some experience and practice. That's it. You're probably psyching yourself out.

So how worth it is it to take anti-psyker stuff these days? Stuff like Greyfax, or celestian insidiants, or others. Some stuff I looked at suggested necrons re pretty popular too and they have literally 0 pyskers right?

Also how do people feel about the finals of tacoma being orks vs orks, with orks having like a cumulative 60-something win rate? Isn't that way unbalanced?

General most units in the codex can fit easily lorewise into a word bearers army, which is convenient, so I might have a look at predators and forgefiends since I've got those models too, but painted as tsons.
But people should remember that 40k is a big place so even more specialised and fractured legions like night lords can still muster heavy weapons and tanks.

Power creeping space marines too much will fuck the entire edition though with every faction struggling until their own power creep codex comes out.

Personally I was in a rut because I was batch painting a shit load of infantry for my army and detaili g with just washes and drybrushes, so I decided I'd pick up a rhino chassis and spend some time layering and highlight it, that helped me a lot and made me want to do more of that on my already done infantry.

Orks being an elite faction is retarded though. They should be on par with guard and nids in terms of points because theyre so damn squishy. They always pull this shit where orks get made into an elite melee army but then theyre still made of wet paper mache and nothing actually kills anything because your entire unit is dead by the end of turn 1 like in 9th when ork boyz were more expensive than fucking firewarriors and still had 6+ save but because they had toughness 5 and hit harder in melee they were more expensive (even though firewarriors hit harder at range and had T3 and a 4+ save which is generally better than T5 and 6+)

Like is lethal hits going to matter when they get picked off the board in droves but now your paying for higher points per model? Is S5 even going to matter when marines will be T5 and T3 targets will still be wounded on 3s as normal? Its just excess bloat to justify prices that really won't make them any better than they are now.

This goes beyond Warhammer 40k.

What I always found weird was how the bad guys in fictional media always looked cooler than the good guys and a considerable number satirical attempts at making fun of the bad guys end up somehow making them look cooler.
This happens in 40k especially when it tries to be satirical.

Did a quick google and found pic related. Hopefully it helps illustrate what it means in the context of Warhammer 40k.

>t. sided with humans when seeing 1st Avatar film as a kid

Fascism in particular highly values aesthetics and the visible projection of strength/quality/virtue. It's difficult to portray a regime that is actively trying to look cool and tough without making them look at least to some extent cool and tough. It's a deliberate part of the grift.
>>

Also, Helldivers.

I think it just comes down to whether or not you're capable of achieving a disconnect between "Thing that looks cool and is fun to enjoy" and "Thing I want to actively emulate in my own life." I think there are individuals on both sides who are incapable of this. You have the chuds who genuinely think they'd be happy living in the Imperium and live like they are, and you have the SJWs who can't cope with liking ethically bad but cool thing so they seek to change ethically bad thing into good thing.

>>
>>98390969
I don't think it has anything to do with fascism or "grifts" in how bad guys of popular nerd culture stuff including Warhammer 40k almost always tend to look cooler than the good guys.
What never helps is assuming people who find the bad guys looking cool would genuinely emulate them in real life. It is the same shit as those said that Harry Potter was gonna lead to devil worship or that video games cause mass shootings.

>>98390984
I agree with you. It is a bit weird in a good way seeing some acceptance that bad guys are cool in media. It probably took too long since stormtroopers first appeared in a New Hope and Warhammer 40k probably played a part in this. Something I never thought would happen.
I always enjoyed playing the bad guy with the classmates back in school age days so they could be the heroes they wanted to be.

That's just cope for midwits
People who value good things value beauty. The beauty of the land, of the people, and of the things they make. It's often characterized as an anal retentive obsession, but in truth it's just what naturally feels right to good people. We SHOULD dress well, we SHOULD be fit, our cities SHOULD be full of beautiful architecture and our nature SHOULD be wild and untamed.
That's why there is a lot of overlap with chuds and painting 40k. It's an outlet for people who want to create beautiful things with their own hands.
>>
>>98391026
>The imperium are objectively the good guys.
>I'm a little surprised this is even up for debate
I think the reason for why it is still being debated is because the Imperium's mode of governance is a mixture of dictatorship types in a kind of "necessary evil anti-hero" way.
But I always thought the real grimdark about the Imperium is that it's state in 40k is inevitable as constant war from all angles would grind down a government into being so awful. Even if the Imperium were to start out as a fair republic or a benign autocracy, it would still devolve into the dictatorship state it is in 40k because of being worn down by constant war.

And the majority of the people who had a taste of reality of the violent galaxy would consent to it if it meant survival making the "temporary emergency measures" to deal with dangerous threats become permanent that erode freedoms away if the 40k Imperium of Man was ever a good governing force until it evolves into the militaristic nightmare that is holding mankind together by delaying it's inevitable extinction.
That's just my opinion. Feel free to shit on it.

I agree with the notion that the Imperium is the way it is out of a degree of necessity, however I think it is also true that the Imperium is crueler than it needs to be because of the ethical slope it has started down making it too easy to choose cruel methods when they aren't actually necessary.

>it's not up for debate, they're causing their own demise through their retarded backwards policies
No they aren't you retarded fucking secondary.

How many times are we going to have to do this? Rick Priestley personally said the Imperium is unironically justified in many of the things they do that are considered horrific to us because WITCHES ACTUALLY EXIST, DAEMONS ACTUALLY EXIST, all these things that make 40k a horrible place to live are not the fault of the Imperium's governmental policies, and their harsh and cruel regime is the only fucking reason they are still alive at all.

Humanity are OBJECTIVELY the good guys because they are fighting for survival against literal incarnations of evil, death, disease, degeneracy, and change/progressivism (unironically), as well as hyper-aggressive hostile vicious aliens that mostly cannot fucking be reasoned with.

It's been ten thousand years of this, and the creator explicitly said the Imperium is not all one monolithic thing, all this different planets and regions run things however the fuck they want as long as they follow the same basic rules of paying taxes and venerating the Emperor. The reason everything everywhere is so brutal and sucky is because THAT'S WHAT IT TAKES TO SURVIVE. Everywhere that tried to be some faggot leftoid dream utopia already died horribly. The surviving parts of the Imperium have proven themselves through natural selection. They are the only things that CAN exist in this crapsack universe. So everything they do is justified and correct and you're a dumb fucking faggot.

>speaking of satire.
>What really was the original satire during the oldhammer days?
Very little, it's hyper-exaggerated by wokies who don't want to admit that 40k was always playing it straight and genuinely got popular because of that. The old satire was the occasional joke sprinkled in with a kind of Monty Python type humour just because the writers liked to have fun, like saying that one of the crimes that got people sent to penal legions was "overdue library books".

The general themes and elements of the setting itself, like Humanity being on the verge of death and beset on all sides by horrible mutants and aliens and fighting eternal war, was never satirical or meant to portray any sort of politics as bad, it was literally just designed to maximize the level of conflict in the setting and for rule of cool purposes.

The proof is just download a scan of Rogue Trader and read it yourself. Read the whole thing, every page, don't cop out with a zoomer attention span and ask someone else to do it for you. You can't properly understand the setting without fully absorbing it personally.

>>
>>98391068
Ya, I never understood why people even debate it still. Its obvious GW has to say that for politically correct reasons, because you cant expect to have nuanced conversations with people who refuse to do research. But like Look simply at the US rights were heavily infringed during WW2 and the US civil war, considered the two "Good" wars by normies. So if thats what it takes to win relatively short just wars. Then how do a 10k long civil war/ terrorist uprising/total war of attrition go. Like its honestly hilarious that the imperiums legal and bureaucratic state is probably pretty realistic. Even if all the SCIFI/fantasy stuff isnt.
>>
>>98391525
Anon nobody cares about your politics get back on topic
Do as you’re told
>>
>>98391511
I like it as a principle that there needs to be cohesion within the country, and that you should generally keep your country first above others, but in practice it’s a complete failure because it promotes suppression of criticism and warmongering which naturally lead to bad ends. maybe if WW2 didn’t happen they could have naturally evolved into proper ideologies that would stand on their own two feet, but because it happened and fascism was crushed, modern fascists will only go back to how it was like duriny its experimental phase.

The "good guys" in 40k are the average random planetary defense force soldiers who are just protecting their homes. But that is not the same thing as saying humanity is the good guys, because they aren't. Half of the high lords of terra are bad guys, the bureaucracy that crushes human lives and souls is a bad guy,

The drukhari, tyrnaids, genestealers, necrons, chaos, and a few other factions are outright the bad guys. Chaos is the worst and wants to destroy everything, so by comparison humanity is the lesser evil, but again that is not saying humanity is not the bad guy, because they are too. They are the lesser evil compared to chaos, but that does not mean they're good.

This conversation happens every week here, but the answer is simply that there aren't really any good guys, just lesser evils. Humanity has lost much of its soul in the fight for survival, and the only "good guys" are the people who have managed to hold on to a bit of their soul. Stop looking for a good guy, that's the wrong question. 40k can have heroes, but the institutions they work for are still often evil. Caine is still a commissar, and the salamanders are still astartes. Even the short list of good guys still work for bad people.

I think this topic comes up and people debate it so much because GW is also confused. They keep writing stories about how humanity is so terrible, but then in the next codex or book they'll write a dozen stories about how everything around humanity is much worse and makes humanity the way it is as a response. Chaos takes advantage and exploits any opportunity a lenient or openminded person gives it. That's the insidious nature of chaos. So it's easy to say the imperium's retarded intolerant nature is part of it's own destruction, which is partially true, but chaos made them that way, and exploits them when they're not that way. GW keeps flip flopping on this. And it doesn't help that they also keep writing noblebright Guilleman and stuff too.
>>
>>98391549

But the Imperium is 99.999999999% made up of the former, not the latter, so when people say "The Imperium are bad guys" it's not a fair or accurate statement, because "The Imperium" is basically synonymous with "Humanity".

These are the right take and it's obvious to anyone with the ability to extrapolate second-order effects. There is no such thing as an immoral government that survives for 10,000 years. If it isn't giving a majority of people what they want it will collapse, they will rebel. And you can't crush the rebellion if the thugs you rely on to do that aren't happier with the status quo. Every bad governmental system has perished and been replaced within generations. The Imperium is morally justified by its own existence. There is no counterargument to this because in order to even discuss what is a moral existence you have to first exist. If all of humanity is dead nothing else matters. Unless you are a nihilist who thinks suicide is the better option than doing bad things to survive. So either:
A. The Imperium is right.
B. Everyone should kill themselves.

Obvious why trannies all choose option B.

Tau are not the good guys because no matter how reasonable they are, they aren't human, and if (when) it comes down to us or them and there's no more ability to reason out a co-existence they will choose themselves and kill all of us. >>
>>98391688
The first point is a fallacy since 40K is a collective effort made by many authors. The current guys are writing that the Tau are good guys.

The 11th lore says that the Tau haven't given in to unreasoning hate (yet).
The Warhammer+ loremaster videos about the Tau say that the Tau believe that alien life deserves life and protection.
The codex lore says that the Tau are known for their mercy and being compassionate conquerors. They are not needlessly cruel.

The imperium was always an opressive regime enforcing it at gunpoint and you ARE INFACT supposed to root for them with GW hinting or outright stating it several times throughout 1-3rd edition. Space Marines are described as "the ultimate good guys" in the 3rd ed space marine codex but the imperium was also much more tolerant of AI and Xenos in rogue trader, it even had rules for using robots in imperium armies. The guard back then were literally a standard military from WW1/2 with them even being paid salaries and the vehicles were seen as expendable since forgeworlds could shit them out and they had some value for the lives of their men and they make no mention of the retarded ass tactics that modern BL writers are addicted to like having them bayonet charge titans with no armor support or being executed for even knowing xenos exist or being captured.

But make no mistake the Imperium are by all accounts meant to be the heroes in a sense and were always an opressive regime.

In the early editions it was nids who were the all consuming threat destined to win, not chaos. Chaos was a pathetic, minor blip mentioned in lore blurbs at best.

You may as well say Exodites were always the main focus of the setting.
>>
>>98391925

This 100%. Tyranids big reveal was played up like all the stakes were being raised and everyone was under threat of extinction now, thousands of worlds were said to have been eaten overnight, the first global campaign ever was around the Tyranid invasion of Ichar IV where Eldar and the Imperium had to team up.

Chaos were described as piratical raiders, the small remnants left of the shattered traitor legions who fled after the Horus Heresy and were just scraping by, acting as a "thorn in the Imperium's side", they were basically just occasional annoyances like Dark Eldar are now.

Literally read what this whiny faggot tries to say
>the core story for 40k, for example, has always been and will always be the Imperium versus Chaos
Chaos wasn't even IN the fucking Rogue Trader book, the core story was the Imperium versus Xenos, and even once they got added in Realms of Chaos, they were still a sideshow, as described in previous posts like this one >>98391933 they were literally "piratical raiders" barely relevant to the story.

2nd edition starter set vs Orks, 3rd edition starter set vs Dark Eldar, 4th edition starter set vs Tyranids, etc. Every single time a new edition of 40k launched it didn't feature Chaos until after Rick Priestley and the people who had worked closest with him like Chambers and Thorpe were all GONE from Games Workshop. GW had to completely replace the entire 40k staff before Chaos ever got a real spotlight, they were never the core of the story and this faggot is straight up lying.

Vash the Transpedo is hilarious to me because he removes all the dramatic irony of the admech. Turns out they AREN'T an ignorant cargo cult afraid of their own technology because they don't understand because Technology™ is an actual motive, living force within the warp and untamed Innovation™ will LITERALLY summon daemons because deployment of Technology™ is a Warp ritual unto itself now.

The admech is now forever vindicated for oiling up their toasters and slapping purity seals all over it before daring to even plug it in.
>>
>>98391989
>an integral part of Warhammer
Not Warhammer 40,000. Warhammer. If they were so important to 40k why was there no mention of them in Rogue Trader or why were they never in a starter set for over 20 years? Why did Orks alone get more books written about them in first edition than Chaos did? You are coping and retarded.
>>
>>98391970

NTA but
I think the female models didn't sell well because their faces were not good. Their focal point being the face to show they are female marines. The female faces they got are just bad. I don't even think the best mini painter could fix them. Not even a Leonardo DaVinci tier one could fix them. At least the current Catachan faces could be fixed if one could be a good paint, but it is like taking clay sculpting tools and adding intricate beautiful baroque marks to a pile of shit and it is still a piece of shit.

Then male identity became an integral part of the 40k space marine over time.

Rick actually comments on that.
>Q: The incorporation of 40K material must have been a big change, not just to Realm of Chaos, but also to WH40K itself, which initially did not have much connection to the Chaos gods. What did you think about this merging of ideas, and how did you go about it?

>R:I don’t recall that it was ever an issue. I always imagined that the two games shared that same cosmology and I just gave the RT backstory a different slant on things initially: warp entities = daemons and so on. I guess the idea of ‘Chaos’ Marines must have sprung up pretty quickly – it’s central to the whole Horus Heresy story and the Adeptus Titanicus game after all. I don’t remember that being a big change – more of an obvious expansion of the game and backstory. There was a lot of that going on once the game took off and it did develop in interesting ways and very quickly – not always at my hands of course. There was Space Hulk which introduced Terminators and redefined Genestealers, the reworking of Tyranids and the introduction of Genestealer Cults, and so on. A lot of the work on the Chaos Marines had already been included in StD – and so probably done by Mike or Simon – and I would have inherited anything left over for LatD. I think the various Space Marine chapters were all worked out – as was the backstory for the Horus Heresy – so it would have been a case of dusting down what we had and finishing it off as necessary.

You such a liar. I am reading all over the web that Rick added Chaos to 40K and made it what it is.

>made as designs for female space marines
Yet are nigh identical to the depiction of SoB in the rulebook.
>lack of female space marines is down to logistics, not lore
Yet they wrote that marines have to be all male while SoB are all female and Guard has female troopers, all the while SoB not getting any official models in RT and all the Guard models being dudes.
>it's actually YOUR fault for not baying female models
Yet they made plenty of female models for variety of their ranges and even ranges that didn't get female models, they didn't have to write how they're male only.

That's a big problem. I wish there was a repository hosted where GW can't DMCA the website that hosts the stuff for archiving.

I sometimes wonder how long it takes for something to be considered old school these days in Warhammer 40k releases given GW's release cycle.

Yeah retard.
>I left them blank before Horus Heresy games were conceived! I left them blank because I wanted to give the story some kind of deep background - unknowable ten thousand year old mysteries - stuff that begs questions for which there could be no answer. Mind you all that got ruined when some bright spark decided to use the Heresy setting - which rather spoiled the unknowable side of things
>>
>>98392294
doesnt say what you claimed
your quote from that interview is about the two missing legions, doesn't claim that they only used the heresy for titanicus because it was cheaper
(you) lost

>The trouble with the Heresy as envisaged by GW
It is literally not Priestley's creation and he didn't want a game set there
>>
>>98392309
>doesn't claim that they only used the heresy for titanicus because it was cheaper
You can find that in Jervis Johnson interviews, and Jes Goodwin as well, I'm not spoonfeeding you every fucking detail, you are a retarded faggot and the Priestley quotes are already enough to wreck you as he is clearly saying he doesn't like what GW did with the Heresy and it was never his plan

Wolves are sulking, irrelevant mutts with no real impact on Warhammer 40,000 as a setting. Necrons are cool.

It's not about how many books you have, it's about how much the setting would be altered by removing you.

They just added space marines to their Horus Heresy game.

Or did they forget the 5 stood for stealth suits while the first digit was the weight class. Which is why 25 was much bulkier than 15.
>>98392275
If I bought any stealth suits, I would've run 25s as the fusion blasters while 15s were the burst cannons.

I just told you who to look up who said that. Jervis Johnson and Jes Goodwin. Voxcast episode 1 for one example. Just get over the fact that you got blown the fuck out already and are shitposting now to damage control.
>>
>>98392386
burden of proof is on the one making the claim
you're melting down because you misremembered a quote and can't admit you were wrong
it's an anonymous board, nobody will know you were a retard tonight if you just stop posting :)
>>
>>98392352
There was also the Horus Heresy board game and the Warmaster board game (set aboard Horus' command ship). Lets not pretend they didn't want to bilk the Horus Heresy even back then.
>>
>>98392393

Idk guys, I saw this old diorama of horus fighting the emperor and it seems pretty old. I think they always meant to do the horus heresy and stuff.
>>
>>98392396
Did Alan Bligh actually do the Horus Heresy right?
During his time he was hated like Matt Ward wasn't he?
I don't like how he didn't retcon the Mk2 power armor's helmet being stuck in a fixed position. It is an autism thing that haunts me.

Even GW didn't bother with the helmet being fixed back in the day. Though sometimes I do wonder what the new MkIIs would look like with some modified SA Veletaris helmets to make fixed helmets for them.
>>
>>98392372
space aliens MAY be too alien to be a good villain, but chaos drags down the bar for compelling villains by just existing. the problem with chaos being present is that now any human rebellion is naturally going to spawn from or turn into chaos shit rather than human rebels being rebels either because of socioeconomic hardships or a governor deciding he doesn’t need the imperium and splits off to form his own state. now with chaos, any truly compelling elements of a villain is removed so he can go murder rape mode, or be a delusional retard believing he’s going to conquer the galaxy single handedly. point is, if you believe chaos is the best villains 40K can offer, then it could be so, so much better.
>>
>>98392372
It's similar to Joker fatigue with Batman. GW pushes Chaos too hard so people are tired of it.

AP didn't matter for vehicle damage unless it was AP1, so that's a bit disengenuous.

The whole thing reminds me of them raising the points on Morvenn Vahl because she's an autoinclude, but MV+Paragons is the only reliable anti-tank the Sisters have so it's just less points to go around and doesn't stop anyone from taking her.
>>
>>98392477
Huron Blackheart is perfect example of this. Story of a sector governor going rogue and rebelling against the Imperium turned into more chaos marine bullshit.
