This ain't a scene, it an evolutionary arms race! Welcome to the Pile of Goo edition of the board games general.Previous Thread: >>98345636Pastebin: https://pastebin.com/raw/h8Tz2ze8Stale survey results: https://pastebin.com/raw/scAkFdTvTQ:What game presented you with the biggest degree of dissonance between its themes and game mechanisms? >TQCivolution is the first thing that comes to mind. It does not feel like a civilisation type game at all, it's just a few dudes on a map and a bunch of random bonuses and upgrades you're collecting. If anything, the fact that there's even dudes on a map makes it feel less civilisationy than if there weren't and it was just a bunch of cards and dice.Still good though.
We are so back

Got my copy of To Boldly Go + Second Contact. Gonna sleeve and play this weekend. Love Star Trek, love Turczi. Simple as.
>>98391405Fuck, I keep resisting captains chair so far.I have plenty of Imperium civs to work my way through first. Please stop posting about it, before I cave.
I've finally completed all my games except Munchkin, which I've avoided buying expansions for for the past decade.Should I catch up with Munchkin or set fire to my set?
What is everyone's process when unboxing a game? For me it's... 0. Print 3D insert in theme appropriate color. Calling this step 0 because if there's not a good 3d insert for the game, that's a deal breaker.1. inspect box for damage, if there is any, keep buying and returning copies to Amazon (even if I didn't originally buy it there) until I get a perfect box. Thankfully most online game stores pack games very well.2. Sleeve cards with matte sleeves3. Load components into 3D insert4. Use corner clipper to take care of any fragile/pointy corners on paper player aides, the manual, etc. this has been a game changer5. Load 1-2 5 gram dessicant packs into the game box to preserve freshness
>>98389915Now wot I say wot in the fresh hells is this supposed to be? Ravings of an infant?
>>98391414Brother, just get it. Why punish yourself? It’s different enough than Imperium that you don’t have to feel as if you’re cheating on it, though in my opinion, I they’ve improved some systems a bit. If you can find someone to play 1v1, that’s a bonus. I will admit, however, that I have had a hard time returning to imperium after it
>>983917101. Confirm I have all the components2. Remove everything from it's plastic/cardboard3. Mark in any errata on the manual/components4. Type up and print out a combined rulebook for the base game+expansions5. Shuffle and cut the decks 8 times6. Play some games7. Box shit up
>>98391782It's the lyrics of a song adapted to be about board games. It's based and redpilled and you're a snotling if you can't figure that out.
>>98389860>What game presented you with the biggest degree of dissonance between its themes and game mechanisms? Was the game still good regardless?Tapestry and no, it sucks.
>>98389860>What game presented you with the biggest degree of dissonance between its themes and game mechanisms? Was the game still good regardless?A Nice Cuppa, the worry cards feel like less like complications to your routine and more like things that enable it. I didn't enjoy it, but more so because of the game mechanics than theme dissonance.
I've finally tried fromage and must say to my great suprise I found it very enjoyable. Sure, it's slop, but it's very well designed. Quick, statisfying and a bit of novelty. Probably gets boring after 15 or so games because you are all navigating the same 5-6 instances of point salad but 15 games is a respectable number.Point being, I'd encourage anons to try it on bga
>>98391710>Unbox the game>Punch the cardboard, store it and assemble stuff if necessary>Close box and put it into the shelfSimple as
>>98391191As much as I love herman, I don't think anything can make me interested in the american civil war>>98389860>What game presented you with the biggest degree of dissonance between its themes and game mechanisms? Was the game still good regardless?Theseus: The Dark Orbit. Looks and reads like a claustrophobic, tense conflict in limited space. In actuality it is an almost-abstract that is essentially unplayable with more than 2p. Found it to be rather bad.
>>98391710>Wake up to play with group>Rush out the door>Listen to part of an LLM podcast of the rule book on 10 min drive over>Furiously remove plastic, start punching cardboard in piles>Friends show up, skip theme and winning conditions, go right into teach>Everyone has a bad time>Come on 4chan afterward to bitch about dev and publisher's stupid gameSimple as.
>>98391710Oh i just leave it in shrink until game night.
>>98392053I had the opposite reaction, I tried Imperium after Captain's Chair and found I enjoyed it a good little bit more and I haven't quite figured out why. I think Imperium is just a hair lighter so it just finds its way to the table more often. Honestly if someone enjoys Imperium they'll almost certainly enjoy CC unless they explicitly can't stand Star Trek. Frankly I'm marathoning TNG while I play and it has been a really fun experience.
Tried my first game at Aeons End (solo) as it seemed similar to one of my favourite gane (skytear monolith).Introductory game was lost after I had the nemesis deck upside down (so lv 3 cards on top). Retried and it went as pic related. Seemed fun but missed... something. Any suggestions for the next game?
>>98394295imperium is more of a card game and captain's chair is more of a euro game with cardsthat's my stupid mental model for them. i do think captain's chair cleaned up scoring a bunch which is helpful regardless of your other preferences
>>98394687> i do think captain's chair cleaned up scoring a bunch which is helpful regardless of your other preferencesJust like that, you broke me. Going to see which online sites in my country are carrying it. End game scoring (even with the scorer site to auto calculate for you) is such a tedious chore in Imperium. Worst part of the game in what is an otherwise fun puzzley and thematic experience.
I was gifted AffO and Norwegians and wanna play it this weekend, is it better to play vanilla first or mix everything together right away?
>>98395201A really interesting question. If you are not pressed for time I would go for all of it.
>>98395201Norwegians just adds more stuff without really adding too much gamelength, you can probably jump all in and see where it takes you.
>>98395201Essentially nowegians balances things out more than it adds new stuff. But there is no reason it really is needed for your first game. Base affo is already large and sprawling enough, I'd start with that. If your group are savants like mine and have no problen getting a lot dumped on them, you already know you're gonna play with everything. Also, word of advice, put it on the table before game day and check if everything fits. I don't think I've emcountered a bigger table hog
>>98395201I was in the same boat, decided to play vanilla for a while and while I it, there were a few annoying things. Then I added the Norwegians and it solved all my qualms and then some. It won't overwhelm you if you jump straight to it, but I definitely think it makes you appreciate the things it does address if you play base a bit without it.
Looking for some /bgg/ card game recs, but kind of with a big asterisk of avoiding-Cards going into a grid tableaus-80% of cards just being yet another score condition-You only get to play 1-2 cards max a turn-Ideally not another deck builder or lane battlerI like me some RftG and Blue Moon Legends but kind of want some more cardplay. Res was too tight, Wonderful World too loose, Forest Shuffle didn't really excite with the cards, had a terrible experience with Mottinai, would never find someone to play Sakura arms
All these AFfO chads itt warm the cockles of my heart.
Any anons have tips on how to stop being stomped by a six year old at Sea Salt and Paper?Because this is getting ridiculous.
>>98395529I guess Pax Ren fits, but being a Pax game is a very tough sell.
>>98395529Seconding what other anon said. the Paxes (Renaissance, Transhumanity, Porfiriana, even Pamir maybe) are some of the tightest card games in existance, but a) they feature more than just cards b) you are limited to 2 actions per turn (3 in Porfiriana but that doesnt really help) and c) the cards are a means to an end, not an end in and of themselves. If you hated Mottainai you might also hate Glory to Rome but I like it so I have to recommend it if you can find it for reasonable pricealso, if you can't find people to play Sakura Arms with, try finding someone to play BattleCON or Exceed with, and convert them to Sakura Arms
Amateur localization company named Mugen Gaming attempts to license one of Japan's most iconic tabletop RPG, Sword World. Discovers they are too financially poor to license all the original Sword World artwork that is copyrighted by KadokawaForced to replace all the original Sword World artwork with new artwork by an anime director named Shunsuke NakashigeDespite being too poor to license the original Sword World artwork that is copyrighted by Kadokawa, they are trying to convince Final Fantasy artist Yoshitaka Amano to provide new art for this Sword World localizationBesides all the old Sword World artwork being tossed aside due to copyright, said localization company is already censoring original Sword World terms like Barbarous in favor of Scarborn and changing the names of unique Sword World classes into more generic, plain sounding classes like SorcererMugen Gaming: Scarborn was chosen to represent the "Chaos" faction of the setting whose name would could be transliterated as Barbarous instead (the original would be closer to Barbaros). This is because many people do consider the word Barbaric offensive due to historical usage of the word against native peopleNot only that but replacing the original Sword World terms race and tribe for lineage like what happened in Dungeons & Dragons and also replacing the original Sword World term sex for gender, which negatively affects Sword World Rulebook II, which features topics covering marriage, inheritance (domains and taxes), and the nobilityThe original Sword World neither contains the term class nor multiclass. Instead, Sword World has a vocation / technical skill system where you build your character as an individual with a pile of useful skills for his or her individual calling. Despite this unique sounding system, Mugen Gaming has decided to rename the vocation / technical skill system as simply class / multiclass.https://www.backerkit.com/c/projects/mugen-gaming/sword-world/pre-launch
>>98395635ok but thats not a board game, that's TTRPG stuff.
>>98395557I will assume you've put at least minimal thought into the game, so I'll avoid the obvious tips. I'll also assume you aren't playing with extra salt and extra pepper>The priority is always to steal shit>Colour distribution is very uneven, check the distribution>Card advantage is the best predictor of who'll win, last chance accordingly (except edge cases if you've gone through half the deck and haven't seen a mermaid)>Stopping is for homosexuals unless you win by it or your opponent is getting too far ahead
>>98394687You know what? This is absolutely right, and my reliance on the external scoring site for Imperium caused me to forget all about it. Captain's Chair is absolutely scorable by hand. I don't love the three track system but it does really work as a replacement for all of the weird "score by x resources in regions" cards.
>>98395712I am going to be honest, I was being a bit silly. Still lost, but she has a lot of advantage as she learns and practices. We are playing with open hands and some coaching, as she forgets to count points and realise she should call Stop or Last Chance, or miscounts points (mermaids especially). She also is therefore seeing my hand and knows what to cover in discard to deny me.That said, she takes after her mother and is ruthless. If she can go for a Shark + Swimmer play, she jumps on it. Card denial for collector cards? Daddy get rekt. This is, however, my first time playing at just 2, and it is quite different with stealing mattering a whole lot more and card denial being much easier to control.Still very fun, and we should be working towards playing it properly with secret hands soon. This might actually replace Château Combo as her current favorite game that she asks after to play.I think she may be ready for Toy Battle.Anything with minimal text is best, but once that reading comprehension is advanced enough, oh baby are we going to go to town with the 1v1 duelers.
I recently played Speakeasy, it was my first Lacerda, and thoroughly enjoyed it. So I'm curious to ask what /bgg/ thinks of it, and your favorite Lacerda games in general. I'm interested in playing more and would enjoy some opinions.
>>98395805God please let me have a board game daughterwife
>>98395805Ah sweet. I do think castle combo is better than ss&p, but the latter has that sweet sweet randomness in juust the right dose. Toy battle imo is easier (and even bettet) than either

>>98396313I really ought to give it another shot.We played without trucks and fancy cars, barely understood how to pull the right levers to punish people, and dear god were our floor plans an absolute travesty.Might be better to tackle it online. But that means convincing the gang we arent frolicking in the TGZ or Indonesia tunnels.
>>98396389Online is definitely easier to test the mechanics and systems, playing irl is such a fun tactile experience though, would probably play it without a tablecloth because it makes things move a little much, bumping the table is way more forgiving and less occurring.

Had an edge case when playing OG Kemet tonight. >Player used a move action and his simultaneous silver action token on the buy a tile.>He moved to take control of an undefended level 4 pyramid>Used a DI card to bypass the city wall>Player who's about to lose his pyramid uses his own DI card to cancel the wall bypass cardWe played it that the attacking player still got to use his move, and he ended up going somewhere else. However, we got stuck on what to do with the silver action token. Does he get it back or does it go down as a wasted action? I argued that he should not be able to use it rest of turn since it says it must be used simultaneously with the other action. However, we let it slide and let him pick it back up for later use. What's the right call here?

What is a game with an absolutely miserable matchup?Today I suffered through Chosen Grove vs Deepwood Groaks in summoner wars, and by God it was a slog.My tree people had very little tricks, the toads kept their potions full and either debuffed me throughout the game or kept their own buffs in reserve. And yet even then, with such a high health summoner, the merciful end couldn't come swift enough. It felt lopsided and deliberately unfun.
>>98401148I've heard that the priestess mirror match in mage wars arena is incredibly awful to play.
>>98401148You gotta really draft around the berserker in War Chest
>>98389860I swear I've started going backwards in Dune Imperium. I used to be able to play and compete and grab a minimum of 9 VPs a game, now I'm sort of sputtering out and not even breaching 10 most games. Where can I go to literally get a from the foundations guide by some top players?Feel legitimately retarded not being able to tell what I'm doing right any more.
>>98402148I have way fewer games of Dunc imp (like 12 or so) but it's been my experience that variance is huge. Between having the right market cards/techs available at the right time, intrigue cards varying from gamebreaking to useless, there's a lot of room for the game to decide your fate for you. I'm sure better players than me can mitigate this, at least to some extent. I suppose this is kind of the charm of the game, it does have a definite "ah lets try it one more time" feeling to it. Never really felt like my victories were fully my own though.
>>98401968I actually miss the ffg slop farm, bros. It was fun getting hype knowing there would a billion expansions for a new game
>>98402414I will say it always pissed me off that the middles of the F's in their logo doesn't line up, though
Lord help me, I'm back on my bullshit. This is just nasty. I've assembled a potent tableau. Picked up every city card I could to rip through my deck. Between garissoning/tucking cards under mana, and the city solstice effects, I am cycling the deck every turn and almost always have the pieces I need to set up a voyaging turn that ends with a played water region to flip back to Isle-Bound.The one negative is that pesky 3 exhaust tile limit. One is almost always stuck on the Nation deck, and the remaining two aren't enough for taking advantage of Hawaii, Mana, Wayfinding, Sweet Potatoes, Large Canoes all at the same time.Meanwhile the Inuit are surprisingly scary. Sure, their Winter turns can get lucky and only resolve 2 cards, but their chain effects keep their deck thin, they are gutting the Main deck, and are reliably collecting Fame cards.
Here's a random reminder to never ever crowdfund something, just in case you forgot.Backed Stellar ventures for an already kinda high $70 and now paid an extra $40 in shipping and taxes, almost +60%. Even in crowdfunding only campaigns there's usually some overproduction that either gets sold via publishers homepage or even spills over into retail. In 99% of cases there is absolutely no sense in crowdfunding something unless you really like the publisher
Maybe I've just had bad luck but all the board game groups here have some autist that spends his turn elaborating every option like an anime villain. Fuck's sake, mate, just roll the dice and decide what to do
>>98403351i'm crowdfunding the GoA reprint and there's nothing you can do about it
>>98403478I hold no grudge against you anon. But I can tell you that GoAII was one of the specific examples I had in mind, got it for €90 incl shipping from the wolffdesigna site not long ago, which was cheaper than if I had backed it.Since we are on the topic, I'd like to rant a little how arty has grown to splotter levels of talmudic worship. I'd like to get a hero pack or two but what I assume will be at least €50 is decidely too much for 5 minis and a handfull of cards.
>>98403525After the whole matagot kickstarter debacle, I think I'm done with it as well kek
>>98403525>how arty has grownNobody talks about Trick Shot. His last crowdfunding came and went with the force of a tepid fart. He's got one game that is justified in it's acclaim, but being kept oop means people will jump on it. And the "well i got it when it was in stock" situation is such a small and irregular window most anons will have missed it and will miss it in the future. I think your peculiar sensitivities have failed you here.
18xx X Golf
>>98403673I don't see how trick shots lack of success has something to do with GoAII being overpriced? I would also argue that if you want the game periodically checking if it's available through a website/retail isn't too much to ask. I did if for GoAII and RotLA. I suppose that's pretty dogmatic approach for relatively little gain, but I am very allergic to feeling I got scammed
>>98403744>I don't see how trick shots lack of success has something to do with GoAII being overpriced? If you want to describe things as approaching splotter levels of talmudic worship, I'm going to assess how anons here suck splotter dick and compare it to arty. They are kilometres apart. I am going to assume you are that anon who took umbrage with the HC rules "teaser". You know how /bgg/ treats splotter and its general catalog. To compare that level to a designer thats only getting attention and "rape my wallet daddy" for one title is asinine.

Crowdfunding fully funds the development, design, production, operations, and the logistics of not only your crowdfunded copy but the copies that the company will sell retail. All retail sales are straight margin at this point because they've covered most of the costs with your money. The only good model is GMTs P500 model. If we get 500 preorders for it, we'll start working on it. If we get 500 more in two years for a 2nd printing, we'll do another run. The amount of GMT stuff going to retail is nominal and usually just really in demand stuff but you get a game that you wouldn't get if it didn't hit 500.>>98404685I don't know if it gets reprinted - the demand has to be there from people playing Chapter 2 because people that played Chapter 1 already have it or are racing to buy it at scalper prices. No one is playing Chapter 2. Maybe that changes in August with Children of Blood (we're all going to play it over 3 months) but, from November to March 2027, what are players going to do until the standalone pack comes out?

I've backed exactly one game and its the reprint for EU PoP. I am vaguely considering doing it again for An Infamous Traffic. I cannot think of anything else I'd ever want to do it for. Meanwhile I've P500'd like 20 games over the years.
>>98403351>>98406816>see a great board game/edition of a game that won't be in retails>mfw my government taxes around 30% of the board game's value through customs>there were times that I had to pay between $60 - $100 for shipping>somehow that's not enough, the local custom officers are demaning your tax id or any government issued id before approving your expensive cardboard through the countryThis is not a good day to be a third worlder, anons... On the bright side, local enforcement doesn't give a shit about piracy laws. I might just give up on crowdfunding campaigns until I get an address within the US and I should just pick it up myself when it gets there.
>>98404819>or are racing to buy it at scalper pricesWhich is exactly why it’ll happen. Last call FOMO is extremely powerful.
playing board games with strangers.I'm annoyed by them and I also hate myself for making a bad first impression. (or an okay first impression if they're not that perceptive/picky)
>>98407231>>98404819Yeah I agree. There is literally no downside to the model for the customer. And I don't believe there are enough people unable to play on shipping to be significant. Largest """problems""" I see is that the model isn't exploitive hence less profitable and builds no hype. The latter is probably the main reason to use crowdfunding anyway.
>>98407459Sounds to me like this is something you actually need. I started playing with strangers and had a very similar attitude. Now I find myself there every week, getting to game with some cool people and trying out games I would have never considered before. Stop trying to find the negatives and just enjoy that you're out there, pushing yourself to improve, and getting to enjoy your hobby in the process.
>>98407821Not that anonbut I am always amazed how playing with strangers will give you an entirely new experience; factors I'd usually consider unimportant suddenly matter. You can play a 4 player low interaction game just fine with friends and will get the usual banter and laughter, but it's a somewhat autistic experience with strangers. Vice versa, games I'd consider utter trash like cosmic encounter do shine simply because the game provides ample low aggression interaction and shenanigans. It's really weird how dependent on your group an experience will be. And that all said, playing with friends is so much better strangers aren't even a consideration if I can get even 1 of my friends instead.
Bullet Fan characters are fun. New at eleven.

I've noticed a phenomenon over the past few years I dub the "expansion death zone", where when a certain # of expansions or upgrade purchases coincides with said game no longer getting played. It varies from series to series, but it has happened enough times to myself or to people I know that it has made me wary of jumping onto new expansion waves even for games I would consider evergreen on my shelf.Sometimes the death doesnt even come from the bloat. Oh, got a new Root box? Lol one of your Root regulars leaves the country, his brother stops gaming with you, you have one other friend left and no one else will touch it.What's that, you splurged for an insert and a storage box? Suddenly the shine is off after years of adoration and for some weird reason, no one asks for it, and you keep forgetting to force the matter. The only game I have seen escape this phenomenon has been Summoner Wars.Has anyone else noticed this pattern? Experienced it?
>>98408300Not really, I've noticed the opposite effect; I tend to buy new games in times where game night gets cancelled often. I suppose it's some for of compensation via consumption. Taken to its extreme, this is probably what creates these mentally ill hyperconsumers with no friends
It's hilarious how this hobby is very attractive to autistic people, and when producers leave empty spaces in boxes(heat), or even leaving larger inserts, knowing that autistic people can't just leave something incomplete. It's like shooting fish in a barrel. I gotta give it to them, genius marketing where a garunteed fraction of their target audience is going to buy a subpar expansion just to "complete" their game. It's almost predatory, but I can't even blame them
>>98408973A less uncharitable way to look at it is publishers know this hobby is full of people who like to consolidate their games into one box to save shelf space so they've started designing core game boxes with the idea that of course their players are going to jam all the expansion shit in there. They don't want two boxes where one will do.
>>98409096I'd be fine with two boxes if the boxes were smaller. The evil root is publishers want their games to be easier to spot on store shelves.
>>98409096It also is like video games where the more gigs = the better the game
Decided some days ago to finally learn Spirit Island down an read through the rule book and did basic game without adversaries and blight card (on did that on my learning game). I've been really enjoying it and have played six more solo games of it since and did my first 2p game today (have already planed to teach the game to two (maybe three) other guys too). Really enjoyed it soo far. But need some help when it comes the expansions. Branch and Claws is the one I've read you should start with, sold out everywhere. Then there is Jagged Earth which looks very cool and adds a new spirts and other content. The problem is there is only one online vendor that still has it left and they sell it for about 165% of price that most other stores have previously sold it for, so and don't that extreme price. So that leaves me with Horizons and Feather and Flames (Both cost about 1/3 of what Jagged Earth would cost for me). I'm leaning most towards Horizons for the five low complexity spirits, as I assume it's probably best to get them early and play with them when you aren't to experienced with many of the more complex spirits and I fear they might be a bit bland or boring if you played most of the other spirits first. Most of the other content isn't too useful (except if I where to get a 5p+ archipelago game going somehow), but F&F is just 4 High/Very High complexity spirits with some other minor stuff, but that seems more aimed at more experienced players.
>>98408973>knowing that autistic people can't just leave something incomplete.Anon, that's called being a mindless consumer. FOMO is very effective against neurotypical normalfags when they spend on expensive garbage. On the other hand, take a look at TCG and Wargaming. Learning a new meta every week or month. Not even women are into that kind of autism, unless they are into it for the male attention or because the boyfriend roped her into it.>>98409096>people who like to consolidate their games into one box to save shelf space>They don't want two boxes where one will do.To be fair, don't you think it's way convenient to have everything in one box instead of storing them in multiple ones? However, I know how ridiculous is that companies are offering expensive big box solutions knowing that it's a problem they initially created which is predatory of them.
>>98409517B&C is recommended because it comes with the event deck. Once you get the flow of the game down it can be too trivial to beat, so you can either add an oppressive amount of adversaries or introduce some randomness, and that's what the events do. Jagged Earth is the one I recommend, it has twice as many spirits plus events. I imagine it will get reprinted this year and be available for cheaper. I never played horizons but it kinda seems like a waste of money if you already have the base game. F&F I think is just 4 promo spirits, you'd only want it after you exhaust everything else. Skip Nature Incarnate, it blows. tldr, wait for JE to get reprinted, maybe you can find an event deck for sale by itself?
>>98409575Thanks for the response>Skip Nature Incarnate, it blowsWhat's bad/wrong with it?
>>98410373I think they ran out of ideas for spirits and then made new ones anyway. I don't really ever feel like using the new spirits and not much else came in the box, it's a real letdown especially since it wasn't much cheaper than JE
It should be spelt B-O-R-E-D.
>>98412475Normie Normie Normie... BOARD GAMES Normie
>>98409517I’m guessing you’re outside the US. I saw that Greater than Games did a restock recently and they’re selling the expansions in their website. I’ve also seen it pop up on Amazon too.
>>98413072Yeah, I'm from Norway. I saw that one of the big online board games stores is expected to have B&J within the 13. of August, but I know that those dates aren't too reliable as I've seen the change it when it comes near. Jagged earth over two months away (probably more) in that store. If B&J isn't in stock by the 13. then I'll just by Horizons (mostly for the spirits) and then later JE or B&J whenever they become available.
>>98409517B&V is basically the base game (it got split to make the buy in more accessible), giving you tokens, events and 2 fun spirits. Then jagged earth completes it with another tokens, new cards and more fun spirits. Horizons are some easy spirits that aren't boring like the base ones and the rest are basically more spirits (mostly op) so get it if you're getting bored with what you already have

>>98413992>I'm cautiously optimistic but I can't imagine learning the first two in the timed versus mode, it feels more catered to the Boss Battle mode. That is disappointing to hear. My group exclusively plays free for all real time and that sort of complexity sounds like it can get in the way of furiously piloting your kit in a satisfying way. We have been exploring the Fan and Pallet characters and really enjoying them. None come off as overwhelming, and their gimmicks have been fun. I haven't bothered with Paws, Orange, or Orange+. Are any of those worth picking up?

Today I learned of Amoebunnies. I went and did an archive dive and it seems to have literally never been mentioned on /tg/ since its release a year ago. TL;DR: ROOT for casual/family game nights. But damn am I a sucker for cutesy bullshit.>>98415901Moon Colony Bloodbath is.. emotionally stratifying. At one end, I actually really enjoy the engine-building system paired with fast-paced matches and great theming, but at the same time, man do things plummet fast if not everyone got a real engine going. And also the character art is kinda buns, but I can tolerate it.
>>98416286Oh right and followup: What actually surprised me about this dumb slimebunny game is that it's somehow not on Tabletop Sim.
I'm spending a few days on my own in the middle of nowhere and I want to grab a boardgame to kill time. I'm considering two different options since my budget is pretty tight. One is final girl, which I've had my eye on for a while but never got it. For what I've seen on youtube, the game doesn't seem to be replayable at all. Meaning that if I get one movie box, I'm stuck playing the same scenario over and over. Is that right? My other option is unmatched. I know it's 2-4 players, but I've seen some comments online talking about an unofficial single player mode. Has anyone tried playing unmatched solo?
>>98416318When in doubt, a deck of cards is endless fun.If ya want something different, "The Chaos TTRPG" is a weird RPG (any player count, mild replayability) in a deck of cards package.
>>98416318As I understand it with Final Girl is that each episode comes with two characters, a couple starts and cards that randomize the killer; so there is some replayability. For Solo games with decent replayability(in that I replay them rather regularly) there's: The Last Lighthouse, Skulls of Sedlec(Solo expansion), Hive(unofficial solo mode), The Night Cage, K2, Bullet Star, The Witcher: Old World. There's also some autistic wargame adjacent stuff like Soldiers in Postmen's Uniforms, By Stealth and Sea, and Unterseeboot if that floats your boat.
>>98416291Lots of games fall through the cracks and aren't on TTS. I have a bookmark folder full of them.
>>98416375I'd love to get the witcher but it's too big and too expensive for me right now. I'll take a look at the last lighthouse, I remember seeing a couple of videos and looked simple and engaging. Thanks!
>>98415325Weird comparison. I found Moon colony bloodbath is fun for 3-4 games, then I kinda stopped caring about it. Only kept it for more casual rounds, but I'd actually like to get rid of it
>>98395529In four souls you can only play a max of 2 cards per turn by default but there are tons of game breaking cards that let you do stupid combos.Great game "engine" but far too reliant on luck for my taste, although that can be fixed with house rules. Has tons of cards as well, very good at emulating an mtg commander experience while being true to isaac, artwork is extraordinary and component and production quality is also very good
We've been looking for games for a friend's birthday. We were considering the fate of the fellowship since he's a big lotr nerd, but watching gameplay videos it looks like the war of the ring but in a shorter scale and co-op.

>>98416623>Weird comparison. It seems like an obvious comparison to me. They're both games about your engine getting worn away.
>>98415154The same people that I hear talking about it are the same people that I hear talking about every LCG/non-TCG game. They say the same things about Gudnak (Simple to start! Access to every card! Goes fast! The deck management is the fun part!) that they said about Kelp, Pagan, Nisei, etc. Gets played by a group of people for about 2 months then off to the next thing.

>>98417917Haven't played bsg or its ridiculous reimplementation but in my experience the hidden traitor/semi-coop games (outside of social deduction) never really get there. I feel like the genre is almost inherently flawed, or at least extremely difficult to get right.
