How the fuck do you utilize BLACK as a color on models without fucking it up? I almost never use black because it feels hard to control when painting. You can easily overdo it and fuck it a detail it feels like. Also, it in general makes it hard to pick out details. If someone wanted to paint "black orcs" but 40k, what color would the use besides black? Just really REALLY dark green?

I'm tentatively excited for the Steel Legion refresh, but I worry how far they'll take the redesign to avoid the hecking Nazi helmets (despite laymen seeing any of the skull insignias and saying "nazis" anyway) and the lightning bolt. The concept art wasn't promising, it looked either too Krieg on one end of the list and too Cadian on the other, for lack of better terms.

im getting a little burnt out on my GSC.

i love the personality of the army, but i feel like i really struggle to play it any other way that isnt 500 neophytes. my trukks, which are my favorite part of the army and one of the big reasons i got into them, always just instantly blow up, i rarely ever get to doser blade anything. the bikes really lack punch now that the power weapons in the squad are limited. and whatever happened to all of my explosives? they're now all very low strength, they can barely dent a marine.

not to mention the one unit that does work, the neohpytes, now have to have schizophrenic split weapon loadouts which make them an absolute pain in the ass to play and roll for. also without the wyrmtooth rounds the kellermorph feels toothless

overall im just not having as much with the army as i was a few editions ago.

Normally I'd say "just wait for 12th when they do another lethality reduction pass across all armies" but realistically, GSC are just generally fragile by design, and I don't know if that'll ever change for their vehicles. All I can say is GSC was designed with recycling units in mind, so if GW had guts and good sense, they'd let you roll new Goliaths onto the board after a few turns and get a second chance to dozer some models
>>
>>98406331
I feel like this happens to half the T3 armies every edition. You just turn into a horde army that can't kill anything and your "tanky stuff" is still too fragile to actually sit on objectives so you have to rely on waves of trash and move blocking to win by points. Which is the most boring way to play.

It's modeling putty, you use it to fill holes, repair damage to the part (either from the molding or from cutting out of the sprue) and smooth seams or to modify a part's external appearance to another form. Green stuff specifically isn't phenomenal when it comes to modeling putty, but it's usable and easy enough to make work.
I've used a lot of putty like this in historical modeling (Tamiya kits are of one variant, and they give you instructions of where to apply putty to make a different variant of a plane for example), but not really much in 40k minis outside of filling seams. I don't do full "sculpt a new shape over the pre-existing model" with it, so I can't talk on that. You can absolutely do that though, it hardens and can be painted/primed the same as your plastic model, it just depends on your ability to sculpt it. Treat it like extremely-fast-drying clay if you do that.

>>

They rip out of the eye of terror or warpspace or whatever and terrorize imperial planets, steal gear, slaves, children to be implanted with geneseed for new astartes etc.
They steal geneseed from loyalist chapters and obviously do their best to maintain their own geneseed by harvesting it off of their dead allies

Power level / lore wise, how do Primaris fair against Chaos Space Marines? Like what is the Chaos Space Marine equal to Primaris or answer? Given that Primaris aren't confirmed to have fallen to chaos(yet), the CSM don't have Primaris Chaos Space Marines right? So what is their answer to apparently new and stronger loyalist marines?
>>
>>98406477
Primaris are physically stronger but are generally newfags so they get PWNed by the oldfag chaos marines. This will level out over time, however.
>>
>>98406465
I guess I am just confused as to how big the chaos space marines really are. How many marines are in a given Chaos Space Marine legion? 1000?
>>
>>98406477
>Power level / lore wise, how do Primaris fair against Chaos Space Marines?
They have a bit of an edge in physical strength and endurance, with better battle-regeneration. However, Chaos marines are usually more experienced than Primaris marines and can bring their own Chaos buffs that vastly exceed Primaris enhancements.
>Like what is the Chaos Space Marine equal to Primaris or answer?
Chaos Chosen.
>>
>>98406458
>Logistically speaking, how the fuck do Chaos Space Marines stay in business? Where are they getting bolter ammo from? or armor repairs? or ships? or anything for that matter?
World eaters ahve the red priests of sarum supplying them, that daemon world is powered by the greater daemon of weapons Sa'raa'um who is bound and free to whisper into their ears in a dark shrine deep within the planet's core.

The Iron warriors and Black Legion have a number of daemon forge worlds too.

Other ones like the thousand sons are just magic lol and plague marines shoot slugs or something and the other ones probably loot or something.

Hell, where are they getting gene seeds to make more chaos space marines? I imagine no one is really trading with them lol. So how the fuck are Chaos Space Marines even functional as a faction? Lorewise speaking.

GW doesn't go into details sometimes it's path to glory sometimes they use the geneseed that is still functional sometimes it's recruiting loyalists or stealing their geneseed sometimes it's daemonculaba

Unsurprisingly the Iron Warriors are the only serious ones who have serious explanations, the rest of them are just bullshit.
>>
>>98406485
1000 is the cap set by the autistic codex astartes for the loyalist chapters. Chaos legions don't give themselves a cap so there's untold amounts of them at any given time.
>>
>>98406416
>you are just jerking yourself off by highlighting every finger.
Just call me a gooner then
>>
>>98406497
>1000 is the cap set by the autistic codex astartes for the loyalist chapters.
It also went out the window when Guilliman sent thousands of marines of Primaris reinforcements to every Chapter. Now Chapters have a nebulous amount of manpower that exceeds 1,000 but is never specified. He also created like a hundred new Primaris chapters minimum, maybe more, so the 1,000,000 total Loyalist marines figure is completely out the window
>>
>>98406458
These questions are exactly why when CSM were first introduced to the setting, the original Legions had already gone completely extinct and been replaced by modern Chaos renegades that just aped their names and heraldry to show their allegiance to the Chaos Gods, and even then were mostly just small-fry piratical raiders and small roving warbands, not full on invasion forces. Chaos Space Marines were never really meant to be a major threat in a military sense the way an Ork WAAAGH or Tyranid Hive Fleet is, Chaos itself is just a threat because of the chance of corruption springing up on any Imperial world and causing Daemons to start spawning.
>>
>>98406504
Honestly good, the galaxy is fucking massive and having chapters be that tiny was always gigatarded.
>>
>>98406507
I mean that's still mostly true, most chaos marines are just small fry warbands of a couple dozen marines, the only really intact legions are the ones whose primarchs are still around and even then some of those shattered into sperggroups.

Do you paint your models when they are fully assembled or do you paint in a sort of assembly fashion? I ideally would like to paint fully assembled models but some models have really annoying spots to paint if fully put together. Like how the fuck would you paint this necrons chest if his gun was already in place? It would be annoying. But I generally have more fun painting fully put together models I guess.
>>
>>98406504
That number was never actually accurate to begin with anyways. The whole "a thousand chapters with a thousand marines each" thing was a figure of speech and there are a lot of places in lore that actually said "OVER a thousand Chapters" meaning a thousand was the minimum estimate but we have no idea how many there actually are, it could be two thousand for all we know. Also the "thousand marines each" thing is only counting basic battle brothers, and does not account for:
>chapter master and honour guard
>command squads and attendant chaplains, apothecaries, librarians, company champions
>techmarines which often number in the hundreds
>scouts
So most full strength chapters were probably actually around 1300-1400 and that's if they weren't on crusade which gives a loophole to increase numbers as much as you want (Black Templar being the canon example but this was not supposed to be unique to them, they just existed as a way for GW to show you that you don't need to follow the limit). Ultramarines official heraldry has specific rules to go up to 50 companies, not 10.
>>
>>98406521
>Like how the fuck would you paint this necrons chest if his gun was already in place?
You wouldn't. It'd just be bare black primer that nobody would be able to get a good look at and would just look like a shadow if you primed black (the correct color to prime)
>>
>>98406507
>the original Legions had already gone completely extinct and been replaced by modern Chaos renegades that just aped their names and heraldry to show their allegiance to the Chaos Gods
true or not, that is so fucking cool. everyday I’m reminded how wanking any faction too hard makes everything, including the faction being wanked worse.

kind of lost in my painting journey.

Ive got thousands of points in dudes, various factions. I get into the hobby then lose focus and get slogged down in painting.

any ideas for what is looking good this edition? I am interested in orks but I worry that they will have first codex syndrome and be powercrept to shit.

Not that anon, but it is pretty logical for it to be the case. It’s been ten thousand plus years since the the Heresy, while it wouldn’t be unusual for the upper echelon of Legions (especially those that didn’t break up) to have Heresy era Veterans, the rank and file Legionary shouldn’t be thousands of years old, they burn through way too many of those.

I liked that idea from a few days ago where everyone does either a dead Space Marine or a dead Ork to represent our own personal thread Armageddon War and we count dead Marines as an Ork victory and dead Orks as Marine victory (but you can use any faction for the one doing the killing) and at the end we tally up to discover which side wins.

On another note while it seems a lot of csm are formerly loyalist marines that went traitor, what are about the csm that were from boy to marine process somehow? What’s the ratio of those csm to marines that embraced chaos?
Sometimes I wonder if those kinds of marines ever stop and think maybe they were screwed because their path was to always fight against the imperium but at least the loyal marines that turned traitor had a “choice” and they chose to side with chaos.
>>
>>98406806
We have no idea what the ratio is but the ones who get recruited by Chaos Marines as boys were already super extremely fucked up because they're either coming from daemon worlds or otherwise Chaos-controlled worlds that at best are anarchic shitholes full of cannibal savages.

found this Chinese company called Gaahleri that has pretty good prices on airbrushes and their paints are decent. I use their 0.3 mobius airbrush, along with their silver metallic and translucent red to get the result. For a first airbrush you can go with their GHAD 39, I still use mine primarily for priming. As for a DIY spray booth a box can work but youre going to at least want a fan behind a filter for ventilation.

Much less safe. Craftworlds are flying fortresses that can travel to avoid attack. The Maiden Worlds, no matter how well-concealed they are by Exodite tech, are constantly getting invaded by colony ships and Orks

only use acrylic paints so cant say about the other paint types but from what I've used so far a lot of airbrush acrylic primers suck ass. I've tried 3 different vallejo primers and 1 warpaint primer and never got consistent results, I currently use Gaahleri primer (love both their matte black and white primer) and have gotten decent results with it. Cant help much on thinner and varnish since I only use vallejo's thinner and varnish, works well enough, you will have to get the feel of things since there's no real ratio of thinner to paint that works for everybody.
>>
>>98406963
>and are usually nomadic, jumping between worlds
Unless there's some new retcon in that dossier, no, when it says Exodites are nomadic it means they are nomadic on the surface of their one planet. They will travel the webway if needed but they aren't generally going planet to planet.

I thought pro acryl black and white were some of the best. Are you able to compare both of them? Is China somehow winning here and closing in on airbrush related hobbies like gunpla to scale model and now miniature painting?

every instinct inside me is telling me this is meant to look fuck ugly, but as I look into the light purple armor with tasteful yellow plating I’m completely mesmerized by its beauty.
>>
>>98407014
Sometimes I get this feeling. Being afraid of being cringe made me put off practicing creativity and art out of fear of hurting myself in a way that being young and dumb can’t excuse.
Warhammer 40k and tabletop miniature wargaming and ttrpgs are cringe. But they aren’t in a way where you’re doing stupid shit like Chris Chan’s antics. I was afraid of being like that and ended up not doing anything.
There’s a balance to be maintained here. Yeah it is good to not care about what others think, but like all things it can go too far if that makes sense.

A vermintide character said something about grading evils. It isn’t good to say bad things are now good because worse things exist.
The same applies to how after a certain amount of time stupid looking things are now good.
The phantom menace will always be a bad movie. The centurions space marines will always be terrible. Scout marines of any kind will always be dumb. No amount of time and art no matter how good will change that.

you don't need to paint them all the same way, once you've decided on a palette you can make alterations for different models or units
>invert main colour and secondary colour
>turn a spot colour into the main colour
>replace the spot colour
>add a new spot colour
>use a spot colour for a carapace pattern
>special albino/monochrome creature
the important thing is that the bigger the creature the more colours of the palette you include on it to act as keystone for the various little schemes and variants in the army

The trick to good whites is not to use white except maybe as the last highlight. The trick to good black is not to use black except maybe as a shade. Base coat in a dark gray or dark blue depending on your tastes, highlight with a light gray or blue, maybe do final highlights with something approximating an off white, and shade with black if you must use it, but consider not using it at all. Minis look darker on the tabletop than they do on your desktop. That midnight blue under well illuminated magnification is essentially black in real life. Remember that.

No. You're paying 60 points to give a unit deep strike. Without guns the pods are just scenery. Marines already have a range of deep striking units, and those don't require you fit a big vehicle on the board as well. Both are still sewer dwelling goblins and occupy the same niche, we don't need skaven.
Nevermind that one other thing skaven had going for them in WHF is their surprisingly advanced technology. However that doesn't work in 40k when we already have shit like the Mechanicus, the Leagues of Votann, the Tau, Dark Mechanicus even.
And their "narrative"/theme of "sewer dwelling monsters living under the city" has already been taken by the genestealer cults.
And all of the fucked up mutants and abomination shit was taken by both Chaos and Dark Eldar.

Only thing it leaves is just skaven being furfag bait, which is an awful fucking reason to add an army into a game system.
Nevermind that 40k already has so many fucking factions and armies in it that GW can't functionally support all of them.
Also we don't need skaven because it is more interesting when settings are separate and don't share everything between them.

Also skaven very recently had their entire range refreshed for AoS, which is the final nail in the coffin for skaven in 40k, they won't make a skaven range for 40k. Since GW nowadays doesn't want setting "bridging" armies. Only ones that are allowed to stick around is shit like custodes because they are a small faction and got "grandfathered" in.

You want skaven? Go play Warhammer Fantasy or AoS. Pick your poison.

Men hit the tops and bottoms of the IQ scale and women tend to cluster around the middle.

That's fact, everything else I will write is reasonable guesswork.
I think logically men with lower IQ and more strength tend to take up physical jobs, men with higher IQ take up the extremely complex and technical jobs.

Since we've forced women into the workplace with changed economic conditions (read: lack of wage growth worldwide), they have naturally fallen into "mid tier" jobs like office jobs.

Since women have lower strength and mid IQ, that makes them the perfect fit for less-physical office jobs in our society that dumb men can't do, and smart men are overqualified to do.

This is why it's dumb for feminists to ever want 100% gender equality in every industry. Women aren't strong enough on average to do the most physical jobs (even if a small minority of them can), and aren't smart enough on average to populate the most technical, complex, autistic jobs (even if a small minority of them can).
So if women are in the workforce, the office environment is the best fit.
I've met some women who make very competent office administrators but wouldn't make good rocket scientists or garbage haulers.
I've met plenty of dudes who would be a good fit on a job site hitting nails into beams with a heavy nail gun, or a good fit in a lab optimising formulae, but would be too stupid/wasted in an office role.

They're mysterious slave raiders rather than insidious insurrectionists who threaten stability from within. Pretty much a great example of the opposite of what I was talking about: personality-wise they share a lot of traits with skaven but their narrative role is the exact opposite.
>>
>>98407956
>>98407957
Really, the problem is any unique skaven "flavor" has kinda been gutted and handed out to different armies
>sewer dwelling, paranoia inducing under-empire? GSCs
>scrappy schizotech that's just as likely to blow up the user as its intended target? Orks
>slavers that love making fucked up grafted war-abominations? DEldar
>scheming backbiters that are their own worst enemy? Like half of 40K
They'd have to invent a brand new niche for 40K skaven like GW tried to do with Votann and even the one people like to bring up of gasmask wearing trench warfare specialists is already occupied by Kriegers. There's just not much for them to do that isn't already being done in 40K.

Really the only thing I can think of on-the-spot is some sort of chemical warfare specialists that have lots of indirect fire and braap gas grenades all over the battlefield, but I'm pretty sure Nids can already do that and there's that one Admech detachment that irradiates the enemy backline to the same effect.

>>
>>98408093
Mandrakes are "good" in that they are very efficient at a recon or priority assets game plan being able to teleport around the battlefield and use lone op to stay alive. Their durability is nil though and they just evaporate, which makes their infiltrators role a bit dodgy unless you are just using them as a speed bump to keep yourself from getting boxed in. Thankfully redeployment tricks can let you use them to zone out enemy infiltrators and then cycle them back into a safer screening role for reuse later. Their damage is not nothing and they do have dev wounds on both shooting and melee that get buffed in a couple detachments, but they're just too valuable for late game objectives to toss out for chip damage into something big.
They compete favorably with Reavers who serve a similar role in most army lists and you usually pick one or the other or one of each depending on detachment.

Are the getting started boxes for Orks and Marines the new combat patrol box format that will be applied to all armies? I.E. Include paints to get "base look" for the army
Or are they just starter set army specific and this won't be applied to others?
Since adding 50$ worth of paint to a Combat Patrol is a great way to incentivize people to start 40K, it gives you paints and a brush that you can immideately get started with the hobby with a single purchase of the box.

I've had that conversation already, he insisted "all factions have bullshit like this, just build better" and refused to change a single unit. I said he was full of shit due to not playing anything but that and therefore not knowing what it's like to play against it (or as any army other than space marines), and he got mad at me and just kept on the "everyone has bullshit like this" point.
Now I know the next "correct" course of action is to just not play with him, but I'm a ruralfag and having one less opponent means not getting to play AT ALL without driving for 100+ miles to the closest cities.

They've only done it this way because there's other ways to buy those models together. Customers have to choose the lesser evil between a bunch of shit paints or models for an army they have no interest in.

Most combat patrol boxes sell to non-beginners. Making a bundle those customers don't want is bad business.
>>
>>98408389
Unironically sounds like someone on the spectrum or someone who isn't a friend.

If he's an actual sperg don't argue about if his list is bullshit just concede the point that you can't / wont build competitive lists and you aren't looking for a hyper competitive game. Explicitly tell him that the goal of playing 40k with him isn't to show who is better at the game but to have fun hanging out.

Still a toss up if he actually internalizes it though.

Crusade brings out the worst spergs who see it as a chance to break 40k on a fundamental level even more since there's so much wombo combo stuff you can do.
>>
>>98408389
the problem with finding players goes doubly for him. just tell him you don’t want to play against a gamey list, and if he doesn’t want to change, then leave him off but keep in touch. see if he decides to play with a different list.

I still think it's crazy how hard Ork part of both Armaggedon and getting started set mog space marines this hard.

We talk about other armies and he seems dismissive of everything but SM (Salamanders in particular) and Tyranids, so I'll talk about maybe setting up a Guard/Nids match with him assuming he doesn't bring one of their jank lists against my generico guard.
I know I'm not making it easy on myself on this either, I've been trying to make SoB work recently and I just don't think they do unless I also build a jank roster with them.
>>
>>98408511
nah man you shouldnt have to run casual lists against sweaty tryhard lists
this game doesnt work well like that
almost no tabletop games do
they function off of a social contract where people agree about the level of play they want to be at ahead of time
>>
>>98408511
Yeah assuming he is a sperg 40k sets them up to fail with this kind of stuff.

40k rules are dogshit (its easy to sneeze and make a list that shits on a casual list) and there isn't a good way to quantify to an autist what a >casual list actually looks like. And since everything online generally talks about sick combos / what units are best its easy for someone to fall into the trap of "this is how 40k is played".

But just like anything in life take this as an exercise in setting healthy boundaries. You are your own person, not a clown for someone else's entertainment. You should both be having a good time.

If you guys are playing casually then don't stick to 2k matched play, just do whatever you want.

Maybe he gets 2k but you get waves of reinforcements, you get 2k he gets 1.5k, you guys try and quantify just how busted his list is by seeing how much of a handicap you need to beat it. Do some of the wacky white dwarf / crusade missions. Maybe you get allies that you don't normally get etc etc.

>>
>>98408602
Yea there's absolutely no reason why you would want all 3 special weapons built for every 10 orks, unlike most troops they really don't get much out of it compared to their choppa. Burnas I can certainly see people wanting a couple of, but even for free big shootas and rokkits are not going to accomplish so much that you'd want 6 out of your 20 boyz swapping out for them. So more likely, you build the new set with all 3 and then sprinkle 1-2 of them into armageddon mobs (exchanging normal boyz back into the new set).
>>
>>98408627
That's the point I'm trying to get to with him to try and express my point more clearly
Every game we've played, I haven't been able to kill nearly any of his units (in 3 matches I've killed exactly 1 of his Infernus marines and 1 Terminator) and he just wipes mine off the table by turn 3's end, so I thought that giving him a taste of his own medicine would demonstrate my point.
I just don't know where to start, I was a guardfag as a kid and only started buying Sisters recently so I've never played with units that were absurdly strong individually (like his entire army is). Recon spam guard? Dorn/Russ spam?

>>98408912
My issue I've found is in the preventing the "walk up and smash." We don't play very big maps (both due to space availability and him insisting on tournament play areas and terrain).
He does the full sweat with the deepstrike on the Terminators and rules-lawyers me on line of sight from terrain cover, fwiw. I think a non-zero is just in him being a bit of a sore loser, so that's a point I'll have to find a way to couch.

Tell me about your magical Christmas land games. The games where your crazy unit combo actually did what you wanted. Where you hit your opponent with multiple, simultaneous, and devastating defensive deep strikes and it actually worked. I'm bored and wanna read some cool battle report moments.
>>
>>98408969
It's hard to screen against deep strikes at 1k, but equally that means his fat 5" move terminators with no guns can't do that much after they arrive. That's 260 points with character and enhancements, a quarter of his list that at worst should be deleting a ~100 point unit and then holding an objective uncontested. He could do that with an 85 point unit of jump packs in a better list.

Advance and shoot flamethrowers with salamander buffs is pretty scary but they're still only T4 2W marines. Don't split fire between the two heavy vehicles, go all-in on one whenever possible. He's using some strong-ish units (ancients generally suck but as a cheap way to give enhancements not awful, terminators expensive for what you get) but it's far from a sweaty list.
>>
>>98409000
If it does win I'll probably paint up a marines malevolent wearing some "liberated" space wolf knicknacks, but I'll be a little bugged if the collage ends up with a boatload of dead SWs.

It's kind of weird that Canoness and Palatine are both leadership 7, while marines can get leadership 5 easily with chaplains that are both harder to kill and hit harder for the same cost. But comparing yourself to marines is one way to go crazy in this game since they're gw's favorite child so let's not do that.

I really like the Orators detachment because it makes Junith and Vahl leadership 5 so you can pass your Shadow in the Warp tests. And after the recent change to Bringers making it 2dp (the marine equivalent, firestorm assault, was always 2dp while also being strictly better at 12 inches, but let's forget about that) makes it so you can take both. I also don't mind Priority Assets, this sort of list with the very resilient Junith+Hospitaller Sacresants backed up by shooting and Freye in the mix is suited to that.

All in all I feel good about this list. It has many of my favorite models and I feel like it's made with PrioAssets in mind. The only thing I regret recently is that my one favorite model that's not included, Celestine, was essentially heavily nerfed indirectly by the changes to the revive rules. So she can look good on my shelf for a bit.

By "full sweat" I meant trying to fit in this tiny assfuck corner where you couldn't even fit a guard command squad (just from how small the area looked after measuring from all of my models), and then trying to fit that entire Terminator squad there refusing to relent until HE measured it out, despite having eyes that work and knowing how much space his units take up.
Screening for deep strike seems rather difficult at 1k points, you can't really play for objectives AND screen every area you want/need to.
I'll give that some of my issue is definitely down to inexperience with Sororitas (and OBJ play in general), the fact I'm playing Sororitas at all vs SM because GW favoritism, and with playing in a way outside of a huge thematic game though.
>>98409024
>whenever possible
Line of Sight was the cause of not focusing fire.
He's stacking the Ancients for Immolator. The Infernus have up to 60 hit dice every turn (before counting Vulkan and the Ancient), adding 1 to every single one of those is absurd as a 1' range free kill.
I know my roster is currently very not good, so thanks for the advice. It's just hard to spitball ideas to be able to counter the deepstrike terminators when they do inevitably land (even if right in front of my screen units) and still prevent him from advancing on the center OBJ with all of Vulkan's gimmicks.

Worth remembering that you don't have to compete for every primary or secondary objective due to the 45 point cap for each, especially at 1k points with an opponent with so few units. If he marches his death star onto the centre you can potentially just let him have it and score elsewhere. Keeping some of your own units in reserve to enter on the undefended board edges turn 2 and 3 could score easy points and then give him a question of what to do with his limited toolkit.
>>
>>98409124
NTA but fun fact, the HQ sorcerer doesn't have a model, you're supposed to use a normal termi sorcerer.
>>
>>98409136
I'm the one who posted >>98408705 and I have had to reconsider my logic. There is actually very little downside at all to maxing out special weapons in mobs because you don't swap out the slugga and choppa in their wargear, you swap out the shoota... and boyz don't give a shit about their shootas.

So it's tougher to say. I'll probably still be doing that - I picked up two halves of armageddon so I have 40 of those boyz, if I grab two boxes of the full kit I can have 3-6 mobs with 1-2 special weapons each. What I can say is, that starter set 6 man mob is a fucking trap. You can't even double it up before you start running into problems: more special weapons and more Nobs than you can have in a group of 10, and you're *never* getting any burnas out of them which is a problem with how GW locks the total number of special weapons of a particular type per 10 models.

I may try and source the models anyways because they're unique sculpts, along with the adepticon Boy as it will likely be appearing in a magazine promotion, but otherwise I don't think there's any merit in them from an army-building perspective.

Cool shit like that doesn't happen anymore in 10th-11th ed, the game is soulless now. It was pretty soulless in 8th and 9th, too, frankly, but now it's much worse.

I want to kitbash a space marine army that can double as both loyalists and chaos. Any advice on what I can do to make them plausibly fall either way?

I haven't paid attention to 40K lore since 2008. I know they made space marines upgrade to be Primaris marines who are huge; does that mean space marines are now larger than CSM?

The rest of the game was pretty uninteresting but a couple weeks ago I had a blob of BGV and judiciar nearly kill a knight in one round, all the BGV got wiped out and the judiciar made his save and went on to kill the knight the next round

Make them a renegade chapter. Not every renegade chapter is influenced by chaos, the term "renegade" just means they don't answer to the Imperium anymore.

Does this scheme look shitty or peak?
>>
>>98409207
Looks cool as fuck honestly
>>
>>98409207
Their helmets look like opals. That's awesome.
>>
>>98409207
More mid than peak imo
>>
>>98409207
the melting sword looks shit. everything else is nice although some more variety would be very welcome in that sea of blue.
>>
Are the models in the new Space Marine starter set still the Mono-pose models from the Armageddon release box?
>>
>>98409247
i agree that the sword effect could be better. but the blue and orange meme works and I'd even say the weapons should be more orange or at least have a warm neutral toned spirit stones to help break up the blue and highlight details. the opal helmets are great though.
>>
>>98409265
by all means do something with orange but making a sword look like it's soft and molten is dumb I don't care if gundams do it

"Dead space wolves don't count for the war effort" sounds like a decent rule. If you don't care who wins, go all-in on killing SWiggers. If you want xenos to win, kill some chapters that aren't SWiggers. If you want imperium to win, you don't have to worry about the dead SWiggers counting toward the xenos' kill count.
>>
>>98409197
"It was a shitpost" is not a valid reason to say these things to people.
>>
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, CAN I FUCKING LEAVE THE HELMET LENSES UNPAINTED??? every time I try it I fuck up the area around the eyes and then when I try to fix it I get the paint back INTO THE EYE AREA and it's this vicious cycle and I end up stripping the model. These painting youtubers make it look too easy, they make detail brushes look like pencils when they're HARD AS FUCK to use
>>
>>98409274
sorry nta, just pointing out my two cents.

>maybe 5 more for a smaller squad
Or for turning into characters
>>
>>98409193
Buy HH stuff and bash it with the RC raider dudes? Bolters and Chainswords should be futureproof for both armies

reeeeeee

How about people just act like adults and not engage in childish bullying tactics?
>>

I really love Invasion Fleet because it's a measure against skew lists, and it's also my favorite disposition.

How many termagaunts do you need to justify a Tervigon? I figured I would take a max size squad and keep them holding a forward objective with the tervigon always healing them but I own 80 termagaunts so if you're supposed to run it with more I could.

I prefer green rod necrons.
>>
>>98409375
hard disagree, one of the ugliest pieces they've come up with. I almost didn't start crons when I saw them but then learned of the newer models.
>>
>>98409371
How about people act like adults and not avoid their permanent bans on websites?

After all, why not?
Why shouldn't I daydream?

>>98409396
Eldar combat patrol is kinda ass. We're probably getting a new dire avenger sculpt some time too. I would wait for a new box.

lmao.

Did you watch any of the Marvel movies?

He can basically use any loyalist marine kit, even primaris ones.
>>
>>98409415
when I was 12, sure.
>>
is $3 a pop for a pushfit termagant a good price?
>>
>>98408792
That would explain why he plays the blackest chapter in 40k.
>>
What if we all killed a different chapter this time? Blood angels? 11th launch box has the marines in their colors.
>>
>>98409193
Use Horus Heresy models
>>
>>98409480
Yeah it should be either a Blood Angel or an Ork and the side with more bodies loses.
>>
>>98409136
You're Orks. Very easy to change a Shoota to a Big Shoota. Add missile bits to a shoots to change it to a Rokkit Launcha. Stick an Imperial Flamer bit to turn it to a Burna.
>>
>>98409396
Never buy bulk like this at once. Buy ONE (1) kit, fully assemble it, fully paint it to completion, then buy the next. Only caveat is if you plan on converting and kitbashing, buy a few compatible kits together so you can swap bits, but even then, assemble and paint them one at a time.
>>
>>98409496
it's just money

Good advice, I tend to not really think of putting stuff in reserves. Having the warsuits come in on a flank on turn 2's start might have ended the match in my favor.
My problem so far has been his "limited toolkit" seeming to be able to counter everything in my faction list, all at once, at least when playing Sororitas; their roster just doesn't seem very strong outside of sheer numbers and trading melee infantry (which is middling at best against space marines IME), they have little to no staying power and have to get extremely lucky with a lot of rolls for "damage dealer" units, Castigators especially because of the main gun's strength being 9 or 10 and SM vehicles that I've fought having a toughness of 12.
His Infernus just melt through tanks and infantry by the sheer number of dice rolled per attack, his Dreadnought and Gladiator are obviously strong against tanks AND infantry, and all he has had to do to outpace me in points is to sit on that center objective with Vulkan's gimmick while mopping up whatever of mine is left with the Terminators.
I'll try Guard instead, but I'm afraid of replacing my squishy SoB with even squishier guard and having it go even worse. I guess we try tankspam.
>>
>>98409507
It's not about the money, it's about the fact that you WILL NOT assemble/paint that shit if you have a huge mound of it. When you have one kit it actually gets done.
>>
>>98409509
I missed a (you) for >>98409143 for the advice
