What do you consider critical to remember if adding your own alien races into 40k?
>>
In The Good, The Bad, and the Alpha, you can get the "Wrecker" talent from multiple places, but the prerequisites are different depending where it comes from. Is this normal. I don't recall this ever happening with other talents.
>>
>>98409941
>What do you consider critical to remember if adding your own alien races into 40k?
The most important, inarguable requirement is that they HAVE to be failures. If they're successful, then they don't fit 40k. The Imperium is a rotting carcass of an empire. The Orks will never return to the heights their genes allowed them to. The Eldar will always be a dying civilization. The Dark Eldar are stuck in a soul draining loop. The Necrons died 65 million years ago. The Rak'gol are mind-drained by chaos to forever be berzerkers. These are all perfect representations of 40k, they're doomed and will only ever fail as time goes on.

The Tau and Votann are not as good. The tau were an ascendant race until GW fixed them and reasserted the Ethereals' schemes. The Votann are imperium but better, but at least they have the AI alzheimers issue. Basically, if your alien race is doing well, then it doesn't fit in 40k.
>>
A friend told me that they retconned Tau being a race uplifted by the Eldar, is that true?
>>
>>98410200
I was saw an Eldar kiss a Tau on the lips, proper creeped me out it did.
>>
>>98410121
Just noticed it happens with a bunch of GBA talents. But it doesn't seem to happen in DW core. Is this intentional?
>>
did session 6 of my only war campaign, the mutant mini-arch is over
the players fought off waves of mutants in a church before reinforcements finally came by
the squad, two npc squads, and the senior commissar all went down into the sewers to where the mutants came from and found a chaos ritual in progress
they fought a psyker boss but the bloody autocannon death of the psyker was enough for the ritual to still work, albeit weakened
most of them got fear-checked by the bloodletter that popped out (and the commissar failed his Terrify check and the reroll which was the entire reason i brought him)

pretty happy with it though. a couple of them will get the purple heart (medallion crimson), they'll all get a medal next session, and have enough XP to choose new specialties, plus a pretty big boost to logistics for doing so much while away
after this the fun can begin: ORKS
>>
>>98410200
We know that the tau exist because of a very convenient warp storm preventing their extermination.
It's hinted that a particular organ of the Ethereals originated in the Q'orl.
Eldrad apparently hyped them up once.
I would be utterly and completely unsurprised by the Eldar pulling an Old Ones and engineering a race to serve their designs, especially a dim-souled and thus more warp-resistant servant caste. They don't even need to be conscious of it, all they'd need to do is act as an enthusiastic hammer toward anything that could threaten a craftworld in local space.
Is it explicitly stated that this is the case? No. Could I believe it? Easily.
>>
>>98410320
Any stand out moments from your session?
>>
>>98410325
The gladius 40k game has a note where the necrons recognize familiar patterns in tau skull/bone structure, that remind them of the time of flesh. The Tyranid Hive Mind also muses on how tau genomes contain "advanced swarm control mechanisms" but they're otherwise nothing special.
>>
>>98410320
Based, I always loved using the medals and rewards system that Only War has. Surviving a bloodletter is no easy feat for new characters. What advanced specialties are they considering?

Can you list the talents where this happened? It sounds like a case of goldfish memory.

>>98410330
aside from the big bad dodging all my sniper's shots and my sergeant getting fucked up by fear and later a bayonet, i think the funniest thing was either a guy with a plasma gun overheating while firing on maximal or all my psykers (except for the boss) getting pasted or fucked up before ever getting a psychic power off. last session i had a psyker use a power and get cataclysmic blast'd and do fucking nothing
thinking of it, i gave the regiment the Sapper training doctrine and actually got to use it for once, the boys setting up defenses and traps that took out quite a lot of guys. good stuff
>>98410343
our sniper (weapon specialist) is going sharpshooter, the heavy flamer guy is going sentry (he's tired of being very effective but otherwise not doing anything but drawing a cone so he wants the multilaser), and i think the sergeant will go commander
the medic and autocannon guy will probably stay as their classes for the +5
>>
The DH storytime anon from last thread, here to ask a for some backup characters I can make quick sheets of for my acolytes inevitably dying.
>>
>>98410354

Modify Payload requires either Tech Use or Demolition, depending if you're an Iron Warrior or a Breacher Marine

Tank Hunter has no requirement for Iron Hands, but Demolition +10 for Centurion Siege Breakers

Wrecker requires Int 40 for Breacher Marines, Demolition for Centurion Siege Breakers

I haven't gone through every talent, these are the ones I've found so far. I'm that guy making the wiki, this is something I found when sorting a table into alphabetical order by talent.
>>
>>98410600
Noted, I'll aim to fix these eventually. As for a wiki, I don't really think anything like that is necessary, but an excel sheet with weapons and stuff, I know a fair few have been asking for something like that.
>>
>>98410806

I'll keep that in mind. I'm going to continue to forge ahead with the wiki because I know a few people who will find it useful, moreso than a PDF or a spreadsheet; once it's done, it might be a useful source to help create a spreadsheet.
>>
>>98409941
I get a weird warning about the Mark of the xenos pdf in the collection, should I be worried

>>
>>98410390
You can't ask your party? Is the lethality going to be a surprise?
>>
>>98411243
Nah, I did ask them but they seemed largely unconcerned. This is mostly meant to be a "you died mid session and I don't know if you'll be able to finish a new character by the end with how new some of you are so I'm keeping some spare characters just in case you end up dying unexpectedly and can't think of a new guy" type backup tool. Also I wanted to see what kind of suggestions, if any, for I should make.
So far I've made a Metallican Gunslinger, an Adept from a shrine world, an assassin from Scintila and a random psyker.
>>
How do the Black Ships find the psykers that are brought to Terra? I want to run a game about a group that crew them but don't know where to start.
>>
>>98411584
The black ships don't do the searching, they just pick up the psykers.
>>

Damn it. I got Star Wars and 40K mixed up again. I somehow thought there were psykers who's job it was to search for those with potential. Back to the drawing board.
>>
What's the range of a Broodmind/how do interplanetary Genestealer Cults work? I'm running a DH campaign soon and one of the ideas I'm tossing around is to have the villains be a sector-wide Genestealer cult. The idea being the Patriarch and/or Magus is basically planning to infiltrate most planets in the sector and just have the revolution bring the entire sector down at once when the hive fleets arrive, rather than just one or two planets a time. Figure using either homegrown Magus-Astropaths or some indoctrinated Astropaths to coordinate. Is this plausible? Astropaths despite their binding to the Emperor aren't above corruption, right? I mean RT the game even has the cult from your ship spread across multiple planets across the Expanse.
>>
>>98411235
Read the full warning, AI has been implemented in a lot of these anti-virus softwares, recently I've seen warnings about completely safe software that I've used for years, that when you read them says "this microsoft/google AI thinks it could be bad, lol lmao"
>>
>>98409941
I wish Foundry would support these old FFG games as the current sheet is ass. Did anyone try to use Maledictum using alternative rules instead of zones for idiots?
>>
>>98412156
>Did anyone try to use Maledictum using alternative rules instead of zones for idiots?
Should I just read the Maledictum rules? I've been meaning to get around to them once my current campaign is concluded, but then I see posts like this and wonder just how bad is it.
>>
>>98411607
>>98411612
While most of the time they just pick up crates of psykers, sometimes the Sisters of Silence on the blackships need to do a little investigation and tracking.
>>
Holy shit I did not realise just how many new talents are in The Good, The Bad and The Alpha

This is going to take longer than I thought
>>
What percentage of those with the pariah gene make it to adulthood? How common should they me on worlds or among the void born?
>>
>>98413548
Welcome to weaponized autism, anon. GBAL converts a decade of horus heresy books over three editions.
>>
>>98413629
I think their birth rate is something like one in a billion, I figure they're not off-putting enough to be instantly murdered at birth but any hive family feeling the squeeze will probably boot them first, likely around 3-6. Afterwards they get along like any street rat, with the added benefit of folks being wigged out by them and not wanting to go near them - a detriment if they manage to attract enough attention to form a mob, but a benefit otherwise. Inquisitorial personnel likely snap them up as soon as possible, as well as assassinorum operatives.
>>
>>98413645
I fucking love it

So, I've only just started playing Deathwatch. I'm just a player, I don't know much about running the game; I get the impression we're playing a bit abnormally, because we're doing huge timeskips between each session and getting like 10,000 xp each session. We play once every four months or so, so this prevents it from being slug speed.

All this to say; what I'm enjoying most is perusing the books and finding all the features that aren't fully explained or don't make sense. I've bombarded the GM with so many questions for clarification on so many of my abilities. This books are so badly written; better than anything I would make, yes, but so many mistakes and problems.

And I love it!
>>
After having listed out every GBA talent on the wiki, I have learned that there are 214 new talents in this book.

This was originally going to be a wiki for all of the expansions; I think I'll just do GBA for now...
>>
>>98410806
I've finished going through all of the talents; there are no more with this issue, just those three.
>>
>>98410390
Recently a player of mine made an Arbitrator with the Impostor background from Book of Judgement. Hive ganger that looted the corpse and ID of a real arbitrator, and fooled everyone long enough to be discovered by an Inquisitor, who promptly removed all inconsistencies and blackmailed him into service

Do space marines get motion sickness?
>>
>>98415177
Posted before I finished my thought:
I'm supposed to be working on a game that involves astartes being trained for void combat and all the info I've looked up about astronauts says how hard it is to get used to low gravity or 3D space and I'm not sure if that is something they have issues with or not.
>>
>>98415217

Inescapable Attack (Melee) and Inescapable Attack (Ranged) are phrased differently. They seem to have near-identical effects. Outside of specific numbers (five for one, ten for the other) are the effects supposed to be fundamentally the same? Or are they phrased differently for a reason?

Making sure I've got an accurate understanding of what they do.
>>
>>98415260
Not that anon, but what the fuck happened to the layout of that site? I remember it being far better and not so much empty/wasted space.
>>
>>98415865
They updated the design a while back. Check the comparison between the archive.org version and the new version. It fucking sucks and I hate it, but I hated it enough to install a web plugin specifically to adjust its text size to something sane and get back some of that functionality.
I don't know who pushed for the new layout but I want them executed.
>>
>>98415217
Let me know how that goes, I've got a space marine chapter in the works that specialises in zero gravity and variable gravity environments
>>
Is saying your chapter claims a pacified tomb world and then having them mine the noctlith off the walls and sell it to the highest bidder a decent justification for why my guys have so much rare and relic gear to work with?
>>
>>98417155
No.
>>
>>98417155
>mine the noctlith off the walls and sell it to the highest bidder
The Ordo Xenos is going to hunt that chapter down like dogs once they find out.
>>
>>98417371
Unless the 'highest bidder' is either an Ordo Xenos operative in disguise or it's part of a long-term cold trade sting operation in cooperation with said Ordo.
>>
>>98417155
The only people who would get away with it are rogue traders operating through probably a few proxies of cold traders, the Ordo Xenos themselves, or maybe some mechanicus members.

Anyone know what the new Lex release for Wrath and Glory is like? It's cheap, but I'm reluctant to give them any money if it doesn't deliver.

Isn't that the game where it might as well be 40k themed Apocalypse World?

That, I don't know.

The wiki's talent list has been completed, and individual articles have been made for all legion-specific talents and all specialisation-specific talents. Everything from Dark Angels to Alpha Legion, everything from Breacher Marine to Seeker Marine.

Next up; articles for the Terminator talents.
>>
>>98410200
Wasn’t this hinted at in Xenology? Like Ethereals had forehead crystals that somehow implied a connection to Eldar?
>>
>>98418815
To the Q'orl, who had a queen stolen by the Eldar, supposedly to create a warp-resistant race.
>>
>>98418965
Too bad it didn't work.
>>
In The Good, The Bad, and the Alpha Legion, you can purchase a promotion to Terminator, and after that, you can purchase the talent "Hero of the Legion" to convert your Terminator into a new kind of Terminator, specific to the legion you're in.

What are these new kinds of Terminators called? I'm currently calling them "Specialised Legion Terminators" because they don't have a generic name.
>>
Edge of Darkness pt off to a good start as the enforcer's no-knock attack on them while staking a hab block *starts* with the one enforcer with the other goons getting turned into mist by a thrown frag grenade
>>
>>98419944
Read nigga, they're not generic special terminators. Look at which legion's special terminators are. IE: Lernean Terminators, Firedrake Terminators, Knights Cenobium.
>>
>>98420446
What's the name for the category that you called "special terminators"?
>>
In The Good, The Bad, and the Alpha Legion, the talent "Fires of Martydom" grants you a "special attack". Does this attack require the Legionary to be wearing the Terminator armour, or is it available in other power armours?
>>
Edge of Darkness pt 2.

With Gallus' player joining the band of Acolytes, he arrives by tram just in time for the night cycle to kick in. Luckily avoiding an encounter with the body snatchers while he's on his lonesome, he ends up arriving just in time to see the attempt at the corrupt enforcer plus some body snatching servitors. With the use of the Chameleon psychic power, he sneaks close enough to see the Enforcer knocking on the door and demanding that the acolytes "come with him for questioning" before preparing to kick the door in. A boot kicks in the hab block door and in goes the first body snatcher just in time for Litilus to end up throwing a frag grenade over its' head into the hallway. The explosion kills the enforcer nigh-instantly with a roll of 18 out of a possible 20 and severely damages the body snatchers, who begin to work at retreating while the acolytes rush at them.
>This is where I forgot to roll Fear against them, that is a my bad moment.
Alicent ends up downing one of the body snatchers with a decent roll of a mono-greatsword attack and scores a decapitation due to ignoring the natural armor, and Litilus closes in close with a shotgun and manages to hit a righteous fury as well as a point black shotgun scatter multi-hit that turns one into chunky salsa. However, one of them manages to get away in the darkness, with attempts to follow failing due to the -30 penalty to awareness rolls that none of them can succeed on.
>>
>>98420581
The Acolytes deduce that the enforcers are working with the "creepy servitors" and debate if they go jump the warden before deciding that Saul was "one of the lucky ones" and distributing some of the enforcer's gear among themselves. Alicent grabs the silenced stub automatic, Hastus takes a respirator, Litilus takes his baton and Gallus takes a microbead vox. A solid 5 minutes are taken debating over who takes the dead enforcer's boots. After taking a nap to try and heal slightly after some combat damage, they wake up to a lockdown being enacted over the hab level and decide to go to the almshouse thanks to finding a passkey on the enforcer's dead body.

Slipping into the kitchens, the acolytes immediately distrust discovered rations but also decide to check the storage room attached to it, discovering the various barrels of protein storage kept within. Curiousity gets the better of them, and Litilus pries it open with Hastus' combat knife, only to discover the clotted red remains of people, as well as the bio-auspex going off as the techpriest gets close to them.

Hastus gains 4 insanity, as does Gallus and Kestien who all flee the room in response to the discovery, while Prometheus just passes out entirely and gains 2 insanity instead. Alicent is completely unaffected due to being Jaded and Lilitus manages to pass his willpower test and stomach the horrors of people goo. We end the session there due to it approaching 4am for Gallus because he's a brit.
>>
>>98420584
>The group of acolytes ranks up to rank 2:
>Litilus grabs shock melee weapon training and plans to grab a shock baton next chance he gets, also increasing his BS.
>Hastus grabs quickdraw with the express reasoning of it letting him throw more grenades regularly after seeing how effective the one used earlier was, as well as Common Lore (Imperial Guard) and a second advance to his BS, bringing it to 47 total.
>Alicent, with permission and relating to what we discussed as part of his background as a mind-cleansed, takes Untouchable. Technically it's a background package but it fits with the idea for the character they rolled up.
>Gallus, Prometheus, and Kestian save their xp so they can look up and check what options they have before making a decision.
