How was it?
It seems like Konflikt started safe so it wouldn't scare away the Bolt Action Historical Grogs but over time has leaned more and more into the wierd dark science alt history stuff. One of the latest army boxes is dozens of totenkorp zombies and two spider mechs that inject soldiers with zombie goo to shit out more zombies.
>>98412637no Hitler no buysimple as
>>98412614Is that from infinity
>>98412676Greybeard Dono this is not for your eyes.
>>98412680No, it's from Privateer Press' short lived sci-fi game Warcaster
>>98412680No, that's Warcaster Neo-Mechanika - the best sci-fi skirmish game I ever played. Privateer Press, in their infinite wisdom, managed to kill the game before it had a chance to even launch properly.
>>98412676If they did put Adolf in the game I'd definitely print an army.
>>98412732Nigga we told you it was Matt whathisface pulling another scam to get PP to avoid bankruptcy for another fiscal year. They have done it like 6 times.
>>98412704>>98412732I've seen people playing it in the wild, it's not as dead as some awg. I don't remember PP fumbling this that bad, I think it just got lost in the general crash. SFG owns it and they made some noises about doing something with it when they clear some of their warmachine.
>>98412733This is exactly why they don't bother pandering to you.
>>98412770I know but what pains me is that Warcaster - as generic as the factions were aesthetic-wise - has amazing rules that could actually sell well if advertised well.
>>98412802I'd buy a rulebook, but the reality is home manufacture now exceeds industry manufacture in cost, quality and convenience. Printing is also not suited to mass production and methods that are, are very expensive to undertake, so the industry is better off moving away from mini production to focus on digital designs and quality rules, this allows for better games and wider model selection, offload production cost onto the customers.
>>98412885From a customer perspective this is reasonable, but the problem is that good rulebooks don't make any money. By the time you've developed a game, playtested it, written it, proofread it, and printed it, your costs are high enough that you either need to price the book(s) extremely high (e.g. several editions of D&D costing $180) or sell massive amounts of plastic to make it worth your time. GW, for example, don't even think of themselves as anything other than a plastic seller, because that's how they make money. There's a reason they squat half of all models every few years (and getting fewer every time). There's a reason they own a bunch of random board games. Selling plastic is what they do. Even Trench Crusade felt the need to actually sell plastic instead of STLs, and D&D has been trying desperately to break into that market for decades now. Like it or not, your games with home-printed minis are subsidized by the so-called paypigs that enable the companies to write rules in the first place.
>>98412733Truly the customer base every miniatures company is fighting over
>>98412917Printfags HATE IT when you point this out
>>98412926Look man they just want that Black Templar player money.
>>98412926Eventually they will be, too many games now and the transition process will prune the majority. Yes, it takes time for a change like this to take hold and yes, the entrenched wealthy entities can afford to resist for a long time. The earliest to acquiesce will have an advantage.
>>98412941Just like going fully AI generated everything, huh?
>>98412917You are correct, but they are not so called pay pigs. The ones that just buy boxes and boxes which they never paint or use then sell on the secondary market are fucking pay pigs
>>98412941Don't sell yourself short! Companies are going to fight each other tooth and nail to be the first to cater to players who make a point out of not buying anything.
>>98412941The best example of your argument, OPR, has literally started releasing models and boxes for stores. It's simply not how the market operates.
>>98412676>>98412733Probably an stl of this floating around, I don't think its sold separately.
>>98412952The sad thing is that people who buy boxes and don't use them are a key part of plastic companies' strategy. GW seems to actually be proud of it, and there's some BattleTech players out there with way more plastic than they'll ever play with and/or paint.
>>98412637I'm gonna be honest i had no interest till i saw you can just buy a zombie nazi army in a box and now you have my attention.
>>98412966Now thus us funny. Warlords "Green Storm" sounds like some nonsense from a marvels comic.
>>98412966Gigabased but they still cucked the lore.
>>98412966That's alright, digital kitbashing is fun and it makes MyDudes unique, NatSoc WW2 STL's are plentiful.
>>98412637Unfortunately I'm a Warlord hater now - bought the Aztec zombie ogres from their Mythic America line at 75% off because they're shuttering the line. The material quality and shallowness of detail was more like a fair-to-good boardgame figure than a real miniature, shockingly shallow and soft.At full price they would be $20 each, which is fucking mental.Seems to sum up their whole offering - ok sculpts, cast acceptably, at luxury boutique prices.
>>98412637>Warlord Resin (tm)This line alone makes me avoid the game. Give me decent starter boxes with HIPS kits only and I may consider giving it a chance.
>>98412933>>98412953>>98412960I am well aware that consumer cults and webstores make them able to survive on the outdated model, as anon pointed out though even this relies on people who stack boxes and don't do anything with them. That can go decades yet, but it's a bubble.Had at-home printing been affordable 20-30 years ago the industry would never have become what it is, sheer luck that OTHER mainstream aspects of consumer culture combined with the internet, have given them coat-tails to ride on.
I can't decide between buying Oathmark elves or geting the WFB elves and proxies I gathered free printed by someone
>>98413040> Had (history been completely different)But it's not. So what is your point. That the bubble is going to burst a la GE bankrupt any day now blah blah blah?
>>98412733Could always get the crooked dice Danger 5 set for a Hitler and Hitler's dog
>>98413058The point being that favourable conditions due to external factors have given them this bubble, that those factors are external means they can't maintain it on their own, the industry cannot prevent the bubble from popping.
>>98413066I've always thought this one would make a good post-apoc wasteland warlord.
>>98413129>Chud status: owned ;-)
>>98413012Tbf that‘s only 3 of the minis in the box.
>>98413172To be fair chuds having a melty and having no response when you tell them "follow your leader" is a pretty solid yukyuk.
>>98413172>implying chuds would think wearing dresses is a dis idgaf about the /pol/ stuff, I like the mecha hitler model from wolfenstein because it looks cool too. A couple of warbands for TNT with ww2 themes would likewise look cool and be a fun demo game set up, I forget who did the bonglander with the gasmask and suit model but there was an entire range of them. Lighten up.
>>98413172That sort of thing only proves we're rent-free in your heads.
>>98412941There will never been an industry for rulebook pdfs and STLs because there will always be plenty of free ones and the marginal value of paid ones will be tiny and diffuse. GW without plastic crack doesn't become WarhammerGameVault, it goes out of business.
>>98413056I've never like Warhammer elves.
>>98413349I exclusively print, have done so for years. When I look for something I first search free options on thingiverse and cults, then I search paid options on cults and if there is something in the $1-$3 range for individual sculpts I'll pay, but if not I then go on to telegram and pirate the stuff people are trying to sell for $20-$30 per individual sculpt.if they hit the right price range they can get business, that $1-$3 per figure sounds stupid low but it also comes without any practical overhead, you pay the artist, you don't buy production equipment, so the end profit margins are very similar.the people sculpting STL's just need to get over the idea that they can't sell files for physical prices, a lot of STL sculptors also need to learn the difference between what they CAN sculpt, what a printer CAN do and what is actually realistic to de-support and paint. the program and the printer both far exceed practical application in their capabilities.
>>98413056That's a tough one. The oathmark ones aren't elfy enough and the Warhammer ones are too Warhammery, I'd just go with the cheapest.
>>98413056Mantic Elves.
>>98413369To add to this, we, the gamers, do not need an industry constantly churning new games, new figures and new rules for profits, we only need a small handful of proven quality games, the miniature wargame equivalents of Chess, Go, Checkers and Mahjong. These have proven that public domain community effort is more than sufficient to sustain a game for centuries to millenia, Chess in particular has proven that there is a market for bespoke or fancy playing pieces as well without anyone having sole intellectual property rights over it.Wargaming itself has also demonstrated this in the community efforts to preserve and polish "dead" games and third party manufacturers or sculptors creating and selling figures or files for games they have no IP rights to.Get away from this idea that YOU need a corporate entity to earn a profit, the wants of shareholders do not have any place at your gaming table.
Wierd War 2 question: Konflik 47 or AE-WWII ?
>>98413040>>98413081When the bubble pops, it won't be the golden age of home printing minis and buying rules. It will be a clusterfuck of companies going out of business trying to survive on rules alone (and let's be honest, most sales will be PDFs, which will then be pirated). If you already have a game and a group, you'll be OK. But it will be extremely unlikely for games to make money, so you won't get good new ones, and communities will struggle to form around any that come out. >>98413369If your practices were the norm, no company would stay afloat. >>98413172You responded, didn't you?
>>98412732>>98412785>>98412704Warcaster was a sincerely innovative game with unique rules that felt very different from everything else, including WarmachineMaking a game where you fundamentally cannot be tabled is really interesting, because that + the summoning mechanic makes list building more of a sideboard activityThe setting was really cool too, I like that it's much more Stargate than Star Wars. Ships are almost all atmospheric and travel between planets via portals instead of flying in space, so all these ground battles make total sense.
>>98413369>I pay the bare minimum for anything I want, onceExactly. People like you can't support an industry.>>98413410>we, the gamers, do not need an industrySure. But the industry disappearing is not the same as the industry changing. And that might not make your minis evaporate, but it will make it harder to retain and attract players to what's already a niche hobby. You're allowed to be fine with that, but don't be surprised that some people aren't.
>>98413423What does your group play? Go with that one
>>98413498The hobby has been suffering from hordes of secondaries and normies for years now, this coinciding with the worst business practices and shittiest rules of the entire wargame hobbying lifetime. We do not need an industry, we do need to be more niche.>>98413435And my practices are becoming the norm more and more every year, which is why GW engages on lawfare against 3D printing as they see it for the existential threat that it is.I've already clearly stated in more ways than one that I readily recognize that the current state of affairs is a long-term transition, so continuing to cry out "Nuh-uh! Things are different right now!" is no refutation of my point, that is already encapsulated by my point.
>>98413373I like the not-too-elf look of the Oathmark ones, but I have the files for greek not-Warhammer elves from Highlands Miniatures and Ilhadiel like pic rel.I think I will get them printed, because I don't plan to play rank and flank large army games. 20-30 models would be enough>>98413379ew

>>98413369> So I just pirate if it costs more than 3 bucksLiterally why 3d printing will never be the Future. If that's all these people will make a sale, and even then they get some small sales in the first week before the STL is on telegram for the pirates to take, they can't have a living wage and they won't keep doing it.Ina future where the physical miniatures companies go under, the entire hobby dries up within a decade as no one is going to keep making shit for pennies.
>>98413727Fine, only people who do it for joy do it, no profit-seekers need be involved
>>98413674You wear velcro shoes, right?
>>98413622I guess where we disagree is that I don't think that's a good thing. You may dislike the influx of players, but the hobby will ultimately die out without new blood. You're essentially saying "I've had a good run and I'm OK if tabletop gaming dies after I'm gone."
>>98414044With that posters narcissistic attitude, one would suspect you are spot on with your assessment. However, they probably will not give you the satisfaction of admitting to your theory being accurate as to save face.
>>98414044No, my children enjoy the games. We entered the hobby in a vacuum, no pre-existing community as miniature wargaming was essentially a novel thing. There are a few isolated examples prior but GW & co established it as a standardized rules thing that exists beyond one guy and his friends. No longer is there a need for that, we hand it down as a tradition.Similarly the LGS was only essential to the hobby in the 80's and 90's, everyone being youths and internet not being a readily accessible thing universally, but now the playerbase has a well established adult presence and therefore private homes work for a venue, no LGS required, similarly sharing it with friends does not need a public communal physical location to meet people, we have digital communal meetups. The context of the 80's and 90's for both players and businesses has shifted in the extreme, so the service model of the 90's no longer has a need to exist, and that is what we have today though bloated and corporatized to a high degree which is a predictable result of the community no longer requiring it, it has shifted from servicing the gamers, to exploiting the gamers.
Cheapskate printerfag gives off the vibes of that one guy that didn't want to pay for dry cleaning, so he would donate his dirty shirts to Goodwill, then buy them back after they were cleaned and put out on sale.
>>98414088This Anon would sell them at whatever profit he could accrue to secondhand shops and buy them back after haggling down the tag price.
I have never seen a 3d print that looks good.

I impulse bought the Cyberpunk Edgerunners Combat Zone starter box because my wife is a big Cyberpunk fan. What are we in for?
>>98414153Hopefully some kino fun with the family, I wish you the best anon
>>98413410This is a very good point. We don't need constant new games, we need GOOD games that last forever. Part of the reason I love historicals is that if I have a single army of 1809 French I can play hundreds of games and they will last me my entire life. Painting a historical army is a lifelong investment and they will always be relevant.
>>984137273D printing is kind of cursed. If I'm paying more than $3 and I do not plan on having more than one of those models. As the guy buying anything past that $3 mark gets questionable very fast. Since at that point Id look for a proper real model that cost around the same.It does not help that for some fucking reason the stl guys insist on using massive bundles with no way to buy individual stl or said stl are trap in old stretch goals that are no longer public. They push me toward telegram to get it and that point might as well get the entire thing, since I'm already here.STL market needs something like steam, for selling stl.
>>98414229You mean like Cults or Myminifactory?
>>98412544Nta. their bobby hats are cute but their bodies are particularly literally trashy imo. I get what you mean though and have had plans for a while myself to buy a retro robutt army from hydra miniatures for a similar aesthetic though their shit is expensive.
>>98414260ntayrt The venue to sell individual models in no way breaks up the business model of selling bundles. The warmahcine 3rd ed stuff on MMF is a good example of this. While >>98414068is hearkening to an enthusiast based gaming culture that has appealing aspects to it, it is perhaps too idealistic in a lot of ways. Many business models are based on taking advantage of idiots, which will almost always be in ready supply, particularly if the internet social structure their ideal model requires continues to exist. This doesn't rule out the growth of various small communities who can share their games and experiences, but it does mean the independent community will always exist alongside various forms of price gouging and the cycle of suffering it entails.

>>98413066I'm also looking to crooked dice for some stuff when I eventually try to hash out my TFTD mod for Modi's XCOM stuff, once I get a hang of the base game. I can probably use their legally distinct not! The Fishmen from Stingray for Gillmen. Aquatoids can just be Sectoids painted green because it wouldn't be in the spirit of Terror From The Deep if I didn't just reuse assets from the original, and I found on etsy a series of crab themed genestealer cult models which provide me with the reverse trilobite thing, the Tentaculaut and possibly the Lobster Men soldiers. Maybe the giant Jellyfish thing too. The only thing I'm really searching for now is some techno lizardmen and their cyborg T-Rex terror unit, the Deep Ones and few other odds and ends.Obviously I'll have to see just how much work a mod of the campaign would actually entail, but I always felt like Firaxis fucked up when they made XCOM 2 but actually it was just V: The Videogame. I really wanted to see their take on TFTD.

>>98412926Look, If you think that every player in Konflikt 47 DOESN'T want a scenario where they get to try and kill Mecha-RoboHitler then you are dreaming.
>>98414665I was curious what your cope was going to be at least.
>>98414153Great game, lots of really neat rules ideas. Both friendly for new gamers (opposed roles and color system means no charts/etc), but simultaneously a really solid amount of depth.Model quality of the starter is not as high as many of the boxed sets though, largely because they switched material.Works really well with MCP terrain.
>>98414703Being able to buy dice and download STLs, and having the game accessible to actually play with people, is kinda nice unlike Warcaster which is stuck even now in a weird limbo where it gets a fairly active convention attendance (through entire year, for years now) while being hard to obtain even on secondary market and the current owner company being wishy-washy on when, and if, they are even willing to support it at all. And by support it I just mean making it available on MMF since every community representative so far been highly disinterested/discouraging of finishing releasing the game or creating any form of new content for it. At least with PP we have a yearly release cycle, with SFG it's nothing planned even in long term beyond nebulous: "maybe when Warmachine is more stable." Actually I am surprised how active the fan community still is for Warcaster where they have to do everything. From the list builder app, the wiki, the tournament organizations, to keeping their community chat active... and yet it's just being squandered for years now.
>>98415006I have a feeling Warcaster was a pet project of one of the designers employed during MK3, like how RiotQuest was Hungerford's baby. So when they left, their was noone to champion it, hence it just kinda dried up before PP sold it off.SFG also seems just to have bought it because it was part of the package Wamachine was in. I really doubt we'll see a revival from them anytime soon, unless they end up fucking up and having their own MK3 crisis.
Does anyone have any theories why the wargaming hobby has gotten less narrative, less effort, etc. over time? To put it simply, there is less "hobbying" in this hobby and instead it's becoming more gamey. It seems like every year wargming just gets closer and closer to devolving into board gaming
>>98415072It probably was, but it was still getting consistent yearly update under PP until the very minute SFG got their hands on it. I dunno, just frustrated that they don't just dump the whole thing on MMF alongside Riot Quest.
>>98412917>Like it or not, your games with home-printed minis are subsidized by the so-called paypigs that enable the companies to write rules in the first place.Except like all of the good rules sets for the last decade or more have been individual/small group passion projects not corporate funded.
>>98415095And in some cases the rules being played with printed minis are 20-30 years old anyway. That's the funny thing about games of this sort, they only need to be subsidized once, not eternally.
>>98414432I get it but what you posted are not what I would want out of robots generally. I want crude and awkward. Either out of utility or because they're prototypes that worked.
>>98414712just looking at the reboot of the game and the fluff for the axis I'm willing to bet most players say they're Natsoc anyway.
>>98415118Speaking of the fluff, said than it transitioned from pseudo-historical with weird science elements into full on Saturday morning cartoon silliness in order to further move away from real history. And yeah Mecha-Hitler would be cool as fuck.
>>98415090I think its because big companies want big profit so they appeal to the big crowd. and no matter no chic geek gets, normies really don't like it. the won't ever engage in that style of play because it is a big confusing. You are playing to win but you're not really playing to waac. its modern audiences playing dnd, you're expected to never die. how does that translate into a 1v1 war game? >>98415095doubling on this. Tons of great games that you pay 5 bucks for or are even free. because when profit isn't the goal its fun to make games. Greathelm, Space Weirdoes, hell even bigger games like Frostgrave which has a mini line. You don't need endless play for it.
>>98415091>>98415072No horse in the race. I remember seeing Warcaster models going up on clearance on Miniature Market very close to when it released which I took as a bad sign in general for its longevity. Good on the community for keeping it going and I'm sorry it happened that way, but it looked doa.
>>98415147Their MSRP price did not help either, on top of no marketing because "good games don't need marketing" lol.
>>98415132I haven't read enough to pick up on that, I just saw people complaining about the lore for the Germans, read that and it's ridiculous, everything about the German faction is still clearly and exclusively inspired the actual National Socialists and the pulp parodies of them like anatarctic/moon nazi's, vampire nazi's, nazi zombies, etc... the very concept of this green vault thing is asinine, it relies on this idea that only the political echelons of the Third Reich were Natsoc and everyone else was oppressed, but it just didn't work that way, and the whole world domination aspect doesnt make sense for a group that wants to found a New Republic. So the company clearly just went limp-wristed pansy for politically correct marketing.
>>98415161Speaking of vampires, if they straight up made vampire officers for the game in style of Operation Darkness then I could see myself transitioning towards collecting a small german army.
>>98415166Just proxy the nachtabel with humanoid vampires in uniform. The description of that unit type did not prepare me for the visual appearance of the models used for them, it really just sounded like a description of a traditional vampire, whereas the nachtjager are a monstrous vampire.
>>98415091They really should. Maybe we'll see something one SFG is done with the old Warma armies. Unless something had happened to the sculpt files, it'd be an easy source of income.

>>98415891That's just YHVH from SMT, I already kicked his bum ass.
>>98415357I mean, the wholly digital future would be just GW switching to over-priced STL file selling that people will pay people on Etsy to print out for them, retiring them faster than the do the physical models, since they have the strength of IP to survive, just more not-GW sculpts being pumped out, and the market being flooded by 40k heartbreakers, like most of the indie scene is now, since that's what most amateur game designers know, only 40k, but they want to fix what they think is wrong. There's never going to be a pirate paradise, because most people are lazy and will go the route of least resistance. Just another thing to throw onto the pile of streaming and music services everyone has now.
>>98415991except that route is absurdly expensive, I print because it is the path of least resistance, it is cheaper, it is faster, it is more convenient. As a side benefit it is also higher quality and more customizable. My first 3 encounters with printing were through etsy, all were too expensive, the second two were me attempting to get one specific set of models, initially they arrived ridiculously too big, then they arrived ridiculously too small, that is when I decided "fuck this I'll cut the hassle and do it myself".
>>98416008It really isn't. Why would someone go to the trouble of search Telegram groups for the exact model they want for free, when they can just click a button on the GW site and pay with money instead of time? Same thing with printing it out itself, why buy a machine and material needed when they can just pay someone to do it for them? Their hobby isn't making models, its painting them. For the general population, that's the whole point of money, to get things they want easily.
>>98416043even if you assume all of your time is worth the hourly equivalent of your wage and salary, you've got to be rather wealthy for one hour on telegram to be anywhere near the expense of clicking "purchase" on GW's webstore.Time is money, but only when you're being paid.
Resin printing is slightly too inconvenient for it to actually take over the industry and it's inconvenient in a way that it doesn't look like it'll be able to improve on. Printing is great if you care enough to get into it or know a guy who does but most people don't want to make a whole setup and get into washing, cleaning and maintaining a vat of toxic chemicals. It's not going to change much either, the resin is both the method and the obstacle. This is just the "everyone will make their own computers because it's so easy" nerdbrain of a decade ago. Most people don't want to learn and they're not as passionate about it as the speaker is, they'll just pay the premium. A bunch of nerds will sit around saying "but it's just so easy, you just have to X and Y" and no, the crowd will just pay for it because it's a hassle.

>>98417983you've got to be between 85 and 100 iq to worry about "muh resin fumes", higher up on the curve and you can figure out that it's no big deal, if you cook using a teflon pan you're way more fucked long-term, and that is negligible. We're all poisoned and we're all reasonably expected to live close to a century anyway.
>>98417493While there are a few thematic similarities to Warmachine, Warcaster is a completely different game. It uses the MonPoc strike dice system, where players roll against each other with dice that have (I think) 2 blank sides, 3 strike faces, and 1 double strike face, and whoever gets more strikes wins. Some of the MK4 changes, like unit movement and how AoEs worked, showed up in Warcaster first. It has alternating activation, where each player takes turns playing a spell card from their deck, and then activating a unit and a solo. Each player has a pool of 7 Focus, which instead of being spent to cast spells, moves around the battlefield to power things up like warp gates and units. Every unit in the game has a special rule that activates while they have Focus, and one that requires you to spend it and return it to your pool. You can deploy Warp gates near your units that last as long as they have Focus, and spends it to call in your units. There's no permanent death state for units, except a few characters, so when the unit is wiped out or is recalled from the field, it just goes back into your pool of available models to summon in. So the game is objective based, since there's no real way to table your opponent, they can always summon in more units.

>>98418343>noononoo don't keep things only consume and display! pathetic
>>98418362Are you brain damaged? that's the opposite of what I said, you display what you've painted, and you do not collect more miniatures than you can actually use, the anon I'm talking to is the one showing signs of endless plastic hoarding.

They were the ones who lead Goreshade to seek immortality and then eventually into exile until he was taken in by Cryx. With Mk4 changed where most of Ios are now either soulless or eldritch: Fanes of Nyrro have been essentially elevated into a more prominent role.Still evil motherfuckers that few people like, including other Ios residents.

I was finally able to meet up with the local player base for this game after getting into it at my local comic con. Our local games are even run by a Mantic demo agent so he helped get a good grasp of the rules. And it is a lot of fun, they managed to capture the chaotic, fast paced energy of Halo multiplayer on the tabletop.

I think a Grimjack or Planescape-type skirmish game could be really sickIf you don't know Grimjack takes place in a giant multiversal city called Cynosure where various planes intersect so in some parts of the city magic and hi tech coexist and in others they don't work at all. Also some of the character designs are pretty cool and there are a bunch of different factions in the city.
>>98420233How you gonna make terrain for that?
This is not a post about OPR, I think this disclaimer is needed for the retards in here.Instead, I want to ask about the broader topic of the small-indie-wargame to available-in-stores pipeline. Basically, with OPR having successfully transitioned from being a small indie company that sold rules PDFs, all the way to having full boxed sets in stores, do you see this potentially happening more often in the future? If so, which current indie games do you think have the biggest potential to make it into the big leagues? I'll share my opinion in another post not to clutter this one up.
>>98420253In my opinion Space Station Zero would be a great candidate, because it has an amazing art style that could be translated well into miniatures, and if they made them very customizable with guns and bits then that would kick ass. The biggest issue I see is that there is just no effort to keep pushing the system right now, because Vince and UncleA keep jumping to new projects for whatever reason.
>>98420263>amazing art stylethat's basically rick and morty slop
>>98420263on one hand i really like that they constantly just start making a new project. the core of not updating a game forever is refreshing and if they game is good enough on its own, then its a great fit. on the other, their games, despite being aimed at "vets and new players", really aren't. if you want to really enjoy any of them, you need full warbands, custom terrain, broad npc roster.they strike me as a small frostgrave, really designed to be played by someone who already has a complete table and bestiary. >>98420253i don't know if we'll see another opr for a while. few modern games are really striving to fight in the same field. most of the indies i see are sticking to their scope. "heres my small skirmish game, play with what you have!" and the ones not sticking to their scope don't have a hope of attracting a player base like opr did. and it took them a more than a decade to get here with a physical release.
>>98420312>played by someone who already has a complete table and bestiary Your post is exactly what's being talked about here >>98415090You complain about actually having to engage in the hobby and create stuff, you just want zero effort shit that's handed to you on a silver platter. Yes, creating a table and bestiary is part of this fucking hobby. If you want everything you need to play right out of the box go play a board game.
Got some locals interested in Frostgrave. I have a bunch of appropriate snowy fantasy terrain and the stuff to make warbands. I've been told it's a good idea to make a Bestiary that fits the models I have on hand for random encounters, so I can throw that together. What else would be useful? I've got the 2E core book, any supplements that are basically essential?I offer a pictire of my WIP wizard tower as tribute.
>>98420445Oh also, if someone specifically dislikes the idea of playong a wizard, is it balanced for them to bring a Saltmarsh crew instead?
>>98420445>>98420448You have everything you need already. I suggest they play a wizard or it will not be a balanced experience.
>>98420464Sounds good, thamks.
>>98420312>if you want to really enjoy any of them, you need full warbands, custom terrain, broad npc roster.I really don't get why it's so common to argue that newbie friendly games should have near-zero requirements when it comes to terrain and miniatures. Of course, if you're a newbie you'll probably end up playing with a lot of proxies/tokens and box terrain rather than a fully modeled and painted set. That's part of the intention, nobody will have enough terrain for most games unless they're decades into building their collection. Even a full-ish roster for frostgrave and the like would be less effort than painting a full rank and flank army for larger games.
