So how many different arch knights do we have now
>command corps bear guy
>command corps fish guy
>cavalier champion deer guy

>darkwater manticore guy
And now this drake themed arch-knight. That brings us to 8, unless I'm missing one.

Yes, in the newest battletome they talk about a Slaanesh warband that plants still living sylvaneth in the ground after torturing them in order to make wine with the sweetest suffering

So are Arch Knights like army champions or the heads of some kind of militant order? I assume they aren't singular characters otherwise they'd be named. But that would be a cool addition to COS to have singular named champions known for slaying a certain beast and using a certain style of fighting.
>>
>>98414893
They're like inner circle knights, just veterans who have clearly proven their mettle and are either unit champions or bodyguards for marshals

Here's the thing, SOME targets. My local target? Never got them. The target a city away? Always got them. I managed to get most of the SCE heroes from there and got the rest online. Thankfully since people don't care about AoS as much as 40k I got the wizard for cheapsies.

>Everyone likes guns and cannons
>Greywater Fastness being a polluting shithole that Alarielle is trying to kill is fun and adds some complexity to Order
>Greycaps
>>
>>98415198
Greywater Fastness is probably the most interesting free city in the whole setting. It has a fully realized moral quandry built into its background, diverse and interesting internal politics clashing with wider Realm politics and gods, a legitimate reason to fight other Order factions like Sylvaneth, and is scrappy underdogs barely holding on while under perpetual siege from Destruction and Chaos with the added threat of Alarielle holding a gun to their head daring them to try to expand the walls any further. Plus the fact it was built by a Tzeentch worshiper and the whole city is secretly being corrupted by Tzeentchian capitalism all along. It also has some of the most detail given to it out of all free cities, especially with the deep dive that Soulbound gave us on its culture and internal politics. Also also, the color scheme is great.
Hammerhal is vanilla as fuck, it's the Cadia of AoS. Anvilgard got conquered by Morathi so now Cities of Sigmar players hate it. And I don't even remember any other free cities, they're all super forgettable honestly.

>>
>>98415198
-Great scheme
-Straight forward army theme that fits the faction super well
-Are assholes, which is genuinely refreshing for an order + human faction in AoS

Hammerhal Aqshy is a gross scheme because of the weird, desaturated orange they paired with their red. Hammerhal Ghyra might as well not exist.
>>
>>98415307
>And I don't even remember any other free cities, they're all super forgettable honestly.
Settler's Gain is memorable because of the elves, and it does have a good scheme now (finally)

But Hallowheart and Tempest's Eye are both pretty lackluster, Excelsis is a cool city in lore but has a boring color scheme, Misthavn is just the inferior replacement for Anvilgard.

Lethis is ok, but the purple scheme is a bit uninspired. Any of the cities that are just "We are the color of our realm" are inherently boring.
>>
>>98415324
Tempest Eye is pretty cool in lore as half the city is literally floating in the clouds and being the only sky port that the Kharadon aren't in control

it just overshadow by the fact that every lore blurb since what 2e is about how skaven are coming to fuck it over?

Since it's Cities Hour, I'm trying to cook a name for my OC city. It's located in Ulgu, a waterfront town whose sister village got roanoke'd after skavenblight noclipped across the realms. Their color scheme is dark blue & gray with white accents.
>>
>>98415358
I don't hate the concept, and I actually like their dark blue color scheme, but yeah you're exactly right that they've gotten no attention besides a few random mentions
>>
>>98415501
>a waterfront town whose sister village got roanoke'd after skavenblight noclipped across the realms
Roanoke's story fits Ulgu quite well, actually. I'm hesitant to /dudes/ up my LRL right now with the fate of the setting as we know it not entirely secure at the moment.
>>
So cities has replaced SCE as the posterboys for AoS?

The other side of that issue is that GW is adamant on keeping Lumineth society and how it operates quite vague. Sure, each of the Great Nations is good at something but there's hardly any depiction of the day to day operations of Lumineth society that isn't preparing for war. No descriptions of structure like CoS has for their colleges and their battletome lore was largely a rephrasing of 3e stuff.
>>
>>98415324
Settler's Gain is interesting because your standard of living would be vastly better than every other city yet at the same time you're (not) a second class citizen who'd constantly be belittled and degraded by smug elf women and actually that sounds pretty good

GW's new financial report is live, man do they love spearhead. Also seems like city of ash did great, according to this little paragraph:
>[spearhead boxes] are proving popular with both beginners and established hobbyists alike, providing a simple way to get started with a new faction.
>Later in the year the ‘Cities of Ash’ box set, which combined two new Spearhead forces, was the most successful Age of Sigmar box set (outside of new editions) to date.
>Brand new faction, the ‘Helsmiths of Hashut’, and the truly wonderful ‘Cogfort’ miniatures also proved very popular.
Flopposter eternally btfo
by contrast, all they had to say about darkwater was that it had "some of the most characterful miniatures in Age of Sigmar" kek

They're pretty brief, for 40k they only mentioned space wolves and the new edition despite releasing a million other things that probably outsold every other game system combined. For horus heresy they only said the new custodes miniatures were "received exceptionally well" lel. For tow they said the highlights of the year were cathay and new chaos warrior stuff, which I found pretty funny because motherfucker that's the only tow stuff you released this entire year.
Overall some interesting stuff in the financial report that's not system specific. Record sales again, to no-ones surprise. Mostly drivem by "trade" (selling to third party stores, it's like 65% of their revenue) And not by a little, the lowest difference in trade was +13.5% difference in NA, all the way up to +38% in asia. Asia is actually ahead of nz + australia now.
Their retail (so warhammer stores) is by comparison much more modest, only growing by a couple of percentages (2.5% and 7.9%) in NA and EU respectively, and actually going down in the UK and aus/nz.
Again, asia seems to be the biggest winner here (relatively speaking) with 23% retail growth.
Webstore is up like a percentage, nothing major there.
For comparison, gw's total revenue this year was 667 million (british pounds). 409 of that was trade, 133 retail, 93 webstore, and finally 33 million in licensing, down from 52 last year because sm2 launch. (Rounded because I didn't feel like dealing with decimals, in case you're checking the math)
Overall pretty interesting.
>>
>>98416501

Now bring back Warcry
>>
>>98416588

>>98416515
From what I've heard it's much more "40k but small" than spearhead is, there's less adjustments and stuff to make the game work at that scale/size. This is especially shit because 40k as a game requires MORE, not less, changes to work in small scale, due to everything being able to shoot to the other side of the board + S/T mechanic making some units nearly unkillable with small arms fire.
I thought one of the main things 11th would try and do is being combat patrol up to spearhead level but it didn't seem they really did anything with it, which surprised me.

It's odd they spent an entire edition phasing all the armored hulls out of combat patrol with new boxes and then dropped a new game book for it with no rules in it and only the app even explains the game mode now. Which didn't get any kind of rework at all from the 10th framework so you still have totally lopsided armies that can't possibly match each other on the field even with their special faction rules and objectives.

The AVERAGE is probably close to 500, but there's way, way too many sitting in the mid 300's so there's no real way to "play" Combat Patrol.

>The vain Glorn Goldbeard sends word across the Spiral Crux: he desires skilled dancers to amuse the captains of his sky-fleet. The cunning Fangs of Nulahmia use this to seed agents into his court, but the grace of the vampires galvanises a competitor. At the height of a decadent airborne ball, the Masque of Slaanesh manifests with a lethal flourish. The daemon engages in balletic duels with the Nulahmians, eviscerating them one by one while spurring watching mortals into sadistic frenzies. Only one vampire is spared: Lady Celitha, whose bold if unrefined technique impresses the daemon. Amidst the wreckage of flesh, the Masque bows and offers her a hand. E.g. 700 point one, units stagger deployment, so if you have 4 units, 1 per turn. Give them pretty useless traits/items etc.
285 point one, everything deploys, it all regenerates, give them great battle traits etc
>>
>>98416708

They said something soon and that the rules would come sooner than that
>>
>>98416713
Yes and no. They make Custodes and Grey Knights just pick one unit to leave behind and not bring to the battle. Most balancing is done by giving different upgrade options to the characters and strategems, while relying heavily on giving a unique secondary objective tailored to each army for "balance" so they can try to win without actually killing anything, but they still evaporate as soon as they get shot.

I'm sure it was just reported earlier, whereas Spearhead is relatively new.

Sylvaneth are nature spirits, dryads, Kurnoth and Treelords are all as much Sylvaneth as the revenants. Revenants take on the shapes of elves in homage to vague memories of ancient protectors (wood elves from WHFB) but that is a choice. Most Sylvaneth are more like dryads than revenants.

After first claiming they would, is the important thing. Boole is not always right. Why I'm also old enough to remember when there was nothing else coming to TOW except more Cathay and also all the TOW armies would get souped into hybrid abominations, which totally happened.
>>
>>98417567
Having 2 chaos starter boxes in a row would be absolute garbo, and the last world rumors while I'm sure some shit will happen I'm skeptical at how accurate any of the shit being said has been since the amount of changes and clarifications really haven't sold this shit to me.

Like we've already seen a few weird errors, anyone remember when Queek was supposed to be in the new skaven stuff but it was really just whitefang ( been awhile was it him?) just kinda mixed up the new Skaven on gnawbeast with that.

It’s gonna start with warriors and beasts. They’ve already depicted them both as hordes of chaos.
>>
>>98417597
God, imagine beastmen getting effectively squatted again and forced back into chaos warriors.

They’ve effectively already been doing that with Aos tho to begin with. Just for the flavored legions.
>>
>>98417605
Eh, monogod gors were already a thing so that's not too crazy.

I'm still under the belief if Beastmen return they're gonna be destro and de-chaosified by Gorkmaorka and following Kragnos as a god of Mindless Destruction (Which was always kind of the beastmen's thing) they'd also fit the destro aspect of no one wearing shirts

>>98417582
I mean tow did effectively get nothing but cathay until like last month to be fair.
But about the starter, yeah, it's a bit unclear what the fuck is going on. If it is StD, it might not even strictly be chaos warriors (which would be weird as tow just did them), but something like belakor's warcry warband or something. Cities of sigmar but evil essentially. aos lost and the damned
Could be fucking beastmen but souped into StD. Could be another darkoath wave. Who fucking knows.
>>98417597

The point is Boole went on a entire huge unhinged rant about how all the factions would be souped and destroyed when it was probably just an AJ or two with alternate lists. In the same way he had a huge sobbing manbaby crying breakdown about how TOW would get Cathay and only Cathay at a time when every other TOW leaker knew Chaos was coming. And it wasn't just recently either, the Marauder box came out last year.

My point is simply that Boole is an unreliable narrator who often gets things wrong even when he is given accurate information. You have to take what he says with a huge heaping of salt sometimes.
>>
>>98417645

>>
>>98417666
One what? A reliable narrator?

I'm not saying Boole's leaks are worthless, I'm just saying people who quote him like his every decree is the unchangeable word of god are silly, and have probably never subjected themself to the unfiltered Boole who self deletes two minutes later constantly and for good reason.

Boole leaks should be interpreted as they are, the words of a sweaty retard trying and mostly failing to convey the glimpses of truth conveyed to him by his actual sources, akin to a blind man attempting to describe an elephant.

>>98417666
Nurgle troggoths

>>
>>98417701
That's a little harsh. Maybe when it comes to behind the scenes shit he's clearly talking out of his ass at some points but when it comes to models he's generally pretty damn accurate. He obviously has access to some information besides just the pure look of the model, as he correctly stated a bunch of the new ogre lore (e.g. morga overthrowing her father, redd going down to shyish to talk to whatever the maw is now, grell working for tahlia at some point, ...) but at the same time he sometimes fills in the blanks snd exaggerates shit based on a quick glance. For example grell going from essentially a leadbelcher with a prosthetic hand, to "having her entire right side rebuilt into an artillery piece".
I think he or his source is involved in printing in some capacity.

CoS is souless now, you can't even have a background duardin token on the cogfort or something
In the fluff every army uses the same equipment, fights in the same way, etc. CoS is less creative than imperial guard because they have a tonne of planet based variants and whole ranges of miniatures exploring that diversity
>>
>>98418625
>Guardsloppa
Now this is truly soulless
>>
>>98418625
>whole ranges of miniatures exploring that diversity

Yeah! You got Cadians, you got Krieg... You got...

Uhhh... And.... Well there's a few kill teams and metal models they put out every now and again! There's those old Rambo Catachans those... uh...
>>
>>98418638
I'm not a 40k player tbf but that mogs CoS and they probably have rules for more. Peaches' Imperial Guard kitbashes for fluff and art whereas they aren't even included in AoS material
>>
>>98418649
>they probably have rules for more
>>
>>98418563
Lmao you're right, they do. Made me double check the battle profiles and they're definitely still going to legends. Odd.

Tbf cities got reworked from being just a bunch of random fantasy models all of like 2 years ago, as opposed to guard which has shit going back as far as like 20 years back. Also I have no clue who peach is.

but 79% of guard is still cadia slop, 20% is krieg, the the last 1 percent is whatever leftover crap GW has yet to remove because they're afraid some nerd in Nordshireburg or whatever UK shithole will firebomb their offices.

I think I probably would consoom a chaos city army if it did become a thing. Lost and the damned has been my number 1 request of 40k.
>>
>>98418821
>chaos city army

God I hope they don't do that, Chaos already has enough bullshit as is and they literally scrapped every single "cultist" esque unit with the warcry warbands.
>>
>>98418821
>>98418834
Chaos "Cities" is represented on the table by Darkoath's rules whether anyone likes it or not. Just use different models, no one will blame you.
>>
>>98418853
I'd blame myself for playing darkoath
>>
>>98418649
I mean it's a 40 year old army vs a 10 year old army, I'd hope the guard would have a little more variety, but even so I don't think it's 4x the variety in either visual or gameplay.
>>
>>98418853
thats not at all what that is.

Peachy is a Warhammer ex-employee who, just like Duncan Rhodes, did painting tutorials alongside other promotional work. He's especially known here for his 100% kitbashed grand-alliance army (from white dwarf) that directly translated to what 2nd edition Cities of Sigmar would be like.

It should be done as AoR. AoR are criminally underused and should branch into some wacky combo like ghoul-khorne-ogors blood union or gitmob-vampire wolfgod fanatics
>>
>>98419030
I wish AoR's were cool like Pyrofane cult or other shit. Right now It really is just "make a shitty skew list and get moderately worse rules"
>>
>>98419052
is that the one with chaos cultist freeguild?
>>
>>98419066
Tzeentch cult with AOS artillery ye. Cool concept
>>
>>98419052
Even something simple like Ironsunz getting to use Ogres is neat but the official ones are so barebones usually
Use one keyword, lose all the traits, and get one artefact
>>
>>98419007
I don't think it matters in the context of the discussion who converted the armies, just that they were.
>>
>>98419052
There are some cool AoRs. I like throggoths with his wheel of fortune affecting other units. I'm also a sucker for those that lets you take more than one artifact. But the potential is big and everyone accepts that they are weaker, so even if one gets good rules by mistake GW can easily nerf them with no need for constraint
>>
>>98419134
I'm still pissed the Deathrattle AOR doesn't let you take Nagash or a Necromancer so you're basically playing SBGL (a faction highly based around magic) with no god damn wizards.
>>
>>98419140
Still waiting on skeleton wizard or lich models. Hopefully a pity hero for the end of the edition.
>>
>>98419140
I thought that lord Velmorn will be turned into generic skelecaster. I want to buy him but every time I see him I get a little sad.
They could also have one artifact that gives you wizard (1) but it's too strong and there was no "on a roll of 3+" involved
>>
>>98419172
Ehhh, Velmorn isn't even a wizard in underworlds (though they removed wizards from Underworlds anyways but we'll say in his original iteration)

>>98419170
The fucked up thing is that WH+ necromancer model would make a perfectly fine wizard but alas no rules and wrong base size.
>>
>>98419179
I was in a hopefull state

>>98418338
I am well aware of this but "rule of cool" only works when I actually find the thing in question cool

We need an arthropod-based arch-knight.
An amphibian one too.

Anvil of Apotheosis from the battletome

How does that help with the deathrattle AoR having no magic?
