I found this ad in an old comic book, does anyone know what this is? What does that bit about real gold mean?

Honestly it might be one of those scams where they charge you insane phone bills per minute

This was created by the Fighting Fantasy guys, so I'd suggest you search along those lines for more info.

>>98415292
I think so too, it doesn't say "toll free" anywhere.

Your both right, the bottom says "All calls charged at $.60 per minute. You can also "store your character in LIMBO" by pressing 9, so presumably you would be playing for more than one day.

I'm not sure if this is more or less pathetic than those phone sex hotlines that used to exist.

kill jester.

Anyone brave enough to send for a FISTing kit at that address?

As >>98415333 hints, it was essentially a Fighting Fantasy book over a phone call. You needed a new-fangled touchtone phone rather than a rotary dial (yes I'm old enough to know I shouldn't be here still), and it was very "press 1 to go east, 2 to go west" etc.
The gold coins thing I can't remember, but I'd assume a monthly draw to win a small commemorative coin. I doubt they were giving away krugerrands at the time.

The comic I skimmed it from was from 1988, no fucking way that building is still there.

1 pound per minute.

It's a high rise built in 1972, still there. Of course, the tenant of that office is LONG gone.

Such a classic.
