One of my NPCs (and a former PC of mine from a previous chronicle) has two ghouled animals. El Ratto, a very plump and tailless rat, and a white rabbit named Kaguya.

In my CtL game, our Wizened recently picked up a hedge beast companion. Looks like a fae deer the size of a squirrel. Hasn't come up too much yet, more of a mascot character than anything else.

Speaking of, our previous Hunter game had a mascot in Licorice, the cat that belonged to the owner of the boarding house our characters were staying in. He was the subject of many memes inside the group.

Let's say an OWOD Kindred is isekai'd into D&D and keeps their vitae fueled Discipline casting as-is. Is that a self-sufficient magic system running parallel to the Weave, like psionics?
Are kindred's and the beast inherently non aligned unless the kindred take a explicitly moral path?
if a sufficiently "evil" vampire has his image warped to display his morality even if his aura is creepy would it still, technically, not be evil by DnD rules? As in, it's not literally made of Evil.
Would elves become mortal enemies of the Nosferatu because they keep locking in their women as targets?

>Is that a self-sufficient magic system running parallel to the Weave, like psionics?
The kindred discipline system is actually a really good parallel with easy translation to D&D.
Each Discipline power would be a spell like ability with an exotic resource cost, the level of spell for the spell-like is the dot rating of the power(A 1 dot power is a first level spell, a 9th dot is a 9th level spell, and a 10th dot is epic magic), and the caster level would be based on the skill points invested in certain skills(like star wars D20 force powers).

All creatures from world of darkness would be level 1, regardless of if it's a mortal or an antedeluvian, and wod creatures would have access to a special stat(stamina) that gives increasing DR(that uniquely works vs both physical and every damage) in the place of Constitution. Most people an even supernaturals would only have 2-5 soak, but some can hit amount in the 80's.

WoD creatures also have very easy access to what d&d considers Vile damage(called Aggravated Damage in WoD) and unlike WoD, d&d people don't have good ways of healing it.
>>98428322
>Suddenly everyone and their mother has true faith
Not at all. Only divine casters would have it, and even then "Faithcasters" are rare even among them. We're talking people who actually took sacred vow feats.

Most divine casters wouldn't have it, clerics and paladins would have true faith 1, and sacred vow would range from 2-5 depending on number of feats.
>>
>>98428432
>DR(that uniquely works vs both physical and every damage
*Physical and Energy damage.
Spell damage isn't normally blocked by DR, but Soak does apply to spell damage. A lot of WoD monsters would be weirdly tanky for being level 1.

Looks very D&D derivative. I can only speculate as to what it does in practice, but the extremely simplified skill list, and especially clan seemingly heavily dictating your build makes it feel much more like a conventional RPG class. The humanity being a scale between two extremes is theoretically interesting, but I doubt it'll be executed well.

Also, is this general going to be unusable during gencon? Because I really don't want it to turn into constant speculation for this still formally unannounced (and therefore subject to cancelation if not well received) new edition.

>>
>>98428530
In general, I've always thought it worked better as a merit like in nWoD/CofD. Beauty is a modifier on someone's social stats. It can make an unpleasant person be tolerated, and elevate the charismatic to be worshipped. As an attribute itself though, I don't think it covers enough to be in that broad category. Plus as a merit it can cover other types of appearance besides attractiveness, such as how scary someone looks. A 1-5 attribute limits you to a specific axis.

Beauty/appearance should be mechanically in the game, make no mistake, but not as an attribute. But also, I do not like this sheet.

>>
>>98428598
Two attributes does not "half CofD" make. It's kept more from V5 (which also used Composure and Resolve) than it has from CofD.
>>
>>98428508
according to the redditor we'll likely being getting playtest docs later today. i think we can't make too many judgements based off presumably a simplified character sheet (cus it's gencon)

im concerned though, since from a glance it seems to retain some of the stuff i didn't like from V5 (notably compulsions) but is keeping some of the stuff i did like like varied discipline powers. i greatly dislike the clan traits already, if this is how they do unique disciplines i think i'll be disappointed. i don't think we should worry about a reduced skill list or how the character sheet is formatted horribly since it's just the playtest

we'll see !
>>
>>98428562
I think the sheet's shit, but at least come up with criticism worth a shit.

A musician is a type of artist.
>Stats in numbers but skills in dots

This is a play-test character sheet, not a finished rulebook.
>>
>>98428593
>Beauty/appearance should be mechanically in the game, make no mistake, but not as an attribute.
I disagree heavily. Mostly because watching what players do when being hot is a stat is fucking Hilarious.

Tangentially, I always ran it with the optional rule that had you roll Appearance at the beginning of a scene for a pool of extra successes to any social roll.

To the surprise of absolutely nobody, with Bleu I employed snakes whenever possible. Most often by having small but extremely venomous snakes coil around her and act as jewelry or hiding inside of clothing (or cleavage) for a surprise attack.

Before we rebooted the chronicle and switched from Requiem to Masquerade, we used to joke about finding absurd/implausible ways to use the (snakes) specialty granted Bleu's Amphivena discipline.
>>
>>98428617
The only CofD morality that works like what this thing probably is is Werewolf: the Forsaken's Harmony, where both 10 and 0 come with significant drawbacks, and 5 is the mechanically "ideal" option. VtR's Humanity works very similarly to VtM's, with a default of 7, going feral at 0. The only significant change is in the hierarchy of sins and the mechanics for how one resists humanity loss.

I don't see why you're trying to lay the blame at CofD's feet when it's clearly drawing more from V5. It helps nobody.

>>
>>98428641
>I don't see why you're trying to lay the blame at CofD's feet when it's clearly drawing more from V5. It helps nobody.
Because a certain subset of OWoDfags are so withered and repulsive in body and spirit that being a spiteful retard is the only way they can feel a tingle of sexual pleasure anymore.
>>
>>98428613
Players will still waste points on being hot if it's a merit, they just waste fewer. It's just easier to have it as a general modifier, rather than an attribute that you roll to get a modifier.

>>98428619

>Plus as a merit it can cover other types of appearance besides attractiveness, such as how scary someone looks.
Most people will still go with the default of "attractive", but it's nice to have that flexibility.

Doubling down on the "your clan forces you to act a certain way" is crazy. I hate the "ethical tzimisce surgeon" as much as the next guy, but holy shit where did people get this idea that clan stereotypes weren't primarily culture/the type of people said clan usually embraces?

>>
>>98428675
>where did people get this idea that clan stereotypes weren't primarily culture/the type of people said clan usually embraces?
Good question, because it was always more that clans tend to recruit based on those traits rather than behavior being modified by them. Brujah simply naturally gravitate toward political ideologues. An argument could be made that a neonate that doesn't pick up at least some of that trait is in danger of at least being viewed as a Caitiff, but not as a rule.
>Like for real, you're telling me that if I, a Brujah, frenzy, I have to go after "the man"?
Well that's more of a perspective thing. Berlin Anarchs tended to be Brujah Neo-Nazis so their conceptualization of the world is that "the man" isn't enough of a man so to speak. Granted they all ran off to Warsaw with Himmler but this rule that Brujah are always looking out for minorities like Thin-Bloods is bunk.

However, for the second arc, only episode 5 has reached 1 mil. View count is steadily trending downwards, but not catastrophically so. These are the same guys that did TTS, so I imagine a lot of those early views were brand loyalty from old watchers.

Please. The Berlin Wall came down. Communism failed. Capitalism was soaring, all boom without a bust in sight. No war. Just peace. Prosperity for everyone. Internet for all. The only people who think that the 90s was dark were contrarian retards like the people responsible for writing WoD in the first place. It's quaint that people think that WoD is anywhere near as grim as what we have to deal with every day in the real world.

I played a Brujah who was embraced by his ultra-patriotic sire for accidentally matching his idea of the "American spirit". Cliff. A semi-nomadic, car-loving, ruggedly independent dude with a code but not averse to a bit of cheeky crime. He was a very even-keeled person in life, so I played the Brujah rage almost like an intrusive thought rather than an exacerbation of his original character. He didn't really give a fig about politics and was struggling to find a purpose to his unlife. Little bit James Dean, little bit Ryan Gosling in Drive. Felt properly Brujah with that cold rage simmering underneath without being a shitty punk.

He eventually came to the conclusion it was largely bullshit and that he could make a tidy profit driving around Camarilla elders and doing dirty jobs for them. He's probably the sheriff of a backwater Domain now.

The problem is that fundamentally modernity being genuinely doomer shit with anti-soul modernism in everywhere from architecture to spatial design to company structure, you can't really set modern WoD in it without rewriting a good amount of stuff. It's unironically big effort.

For example, everyone and their mother knows phones collect their data, but what is it used for? Is the government spying on you to catch criminals or insurrections or anything remotely interesting? No, it's so that Chinese companies can buy your data and sell them to advertisement companies and then they can push [Product] on you through targeted ads until you crack and buy something. Peak gay (derogatory) bullshit. Real life has unironically become a parody of itself that 15-20 years ago someone would laugh at you for talking about it. Other funny tidbits include
>Women hating on men but being okay with women(men) in their spaces
>Promiscuous gays taking drugs so their lifestyle doesn't get them killed
>Working class Americans voting against their own interests because there's no longer any party for them
>Congress gets older and more ghoulish by the year
>Shareholders cracking whips made of capital at artists to get them to compromise so they can get cultural government funding
>Kids frying their brain's dopamine receptors with short-form entertainment
>A rise of e-philosophy between podcasts and longform video essays
>The transition of books into a smutty romance distribution industry
>Men so beaten down they turn away from women permanently
Among other issues.

A modern WoD truly capturing the spirit of the age wouldn't be so much about conspiracy theories (they're all true anyway) and instead about the retention of the soul. Modern WoD should be closer to changeling, but with more Japanese elements as Japanese cultural exports are widely seen as a reprieve from the crushing weight of western modernism.

There's a fucking reason Fight Club, The Matrix, and Falling Down were made in that era anon. The fact rich boomers were living like kings as the Gen Xer's had their futures stolen and were living paycheck-to-paycheck to feed their kids was PART OF THE PROBLEM.

The measure of prosperity is not how happy the boomers are

There was Officer Bayard (me)
Red a vanilla human kinda rugged single father type, I think he was a mechanic & he was sort of the heart of the group
Can't remember her name but there was the STs girlfriend. Of course nearly everything revolved around her at times
Zero, a British DJ, played by our resident theatre kid
Philbert, a witch from Witchfinders who could scry stuff, run really fast & use the evil eye & open uo spacial windows. He wasnt around much & mostly just did support magic from the sidelines
Boris (or some other generic Russian name) was a boxing Russian guy, played for laughs & muscle.
Johnny the Hobo, played by my wife. He was a hobo with a bunch of shivs. Surprisingly useful, but no one wanted to talk to him much & my wife was determined to keep him a hobo even when other characters offered him a place to sleep or to roommate with.

It was pretty fun but very dysfunctional. The ST didnt know how to run a big group, nor did he read the rules much. Most enemies were damage sponges until he felt like it was a good time for them to die (usually when his girlfriend attacked it after giving some kind of speach). I might dust off Officer Bayard at some point in another game. He was a straight laced detective/cop who occasionally shifted into a demon form & killed monsters with a shotgun like he was out of devil may cry.

Vampire isn't really about the retention of the soul, but the retention of dignity I would say. The only game really about fighting a constant maelstrom of anti-You bullshit is Changeling, but WoD is built around VtM as a base. Anyway, my point being more so that the conditions that made WoD what it is and something that really hits a cultural mood isn't really in the zeitgeist of today. Yeah I'm sure there were more than a few guys who didn't fuck women cause they self-impose loserdom on themselves but it's almost a full blown epidemic now. Yes, the Syndicate does do that but it's not an over-present monolith in theory but one that is well known and seen now. Yeah some of these things have always existed, but they idea of KNOWING past the theory was a novelty in the 90s and 00s, a select group of noticers. This isn't the case anymore, everyone knows this shit and you no long need to be a noticed or part of the cool kids club to understand it, yet every single person is too apathetic to do anything but seek shallow entertainment and dig their heads in the sand. Hunters unironically wouldn't exist in a nu-nu-WoD done properly around the 2020's, because Hunting as a profession is one of doomed optimism and a spiritual courage to face your oppressors that doesn't exist anymore. You could still have Vampire, but it'd probably be about classism and class struggle in reference to the hustle culture that has dominated the rat race.

or rather the caveat that it should expire after 500 years, is the lore-wise reason why Hecata formed in the first place (mechanically it's more about cutting down on bloodlines and niche disciplines). If anything year 2028 should re-open hostilities between Camarilla and Hecata, possibly driving them to side with Sabbat (especially considering that Path of Death and Soul already has strong synergy with their interests).

A little bit of metacurrency in an RPG is a good thing, I think. Problem is shitty game designers get addicted to them, because they think everything needs a hard resolution mechanic. Usually its the players that'll optimize the fun out of a game, but here it's the developers developing the fun out of the game.

Hell their last patreon post says as much and asked people to help spread it via word of mouth, as if that's their problem.

What about Oblivion, the v5 fusion of Obtenebration and Necromancy?

This whole thing feels as if it was radically simplifying things from v20 without acknowledging anything v5 did. At least in terms of the mechanics.

Other thing I didn't like it was the art style. Having just cosplayers it's lame, imthey could've used some more gritty comic book or graphic novel style could've made it more appealing to me.

The Prince of Prague decided he wanted to call a new Convention of Thorns to make peace between the Camarilla and the Anarchs. He invited representatives of both factions from all over the world, had blood dolls shipped in en masse for the meeting, and stored caches of weapons all over the city in case things went awry. The Entity Special Operations Group noticed the uptick in local kindred traffic.

The Society of Leopold decided to make a move against the local vampires. The Leopoldites burned the Prince in a church, the (Brujah) Sheriff blamed the Anarchs and instituted a city-wide bloodhunt, and everything erupted into chaos for like a week. Anyone caught outside Elysium was a target and the best damage control anyone managed was claiming it was "terrorist attacks." Total shitstorm that only started stabilizing when the former Prince's childe took over from the Sheriff.

In general it just scratches that itch I have for irl myths and legends, and it opened my eyes to think how classical monsters can fit in modern settings. And just theorizing how things happened around the world and imagine how some monster from this world was fucking up the world was a nice exercise, it felt like we talked like some conspiracy theoriest that only understood one another instead of greasy kids just geeking out.

You don't have to be bipolar, but it works like this:
>Become Mortal 3 due to being a good boy
>Pass the Mortal 3 threshold again
>Lose the Monstrous 3 circle
>Pass the Mortal 3 threshold again
>Lose the Monstrous 2 circle
>If I pass the Mortal 3 threshold one more time, I lose the Monstrous 1 circle. With no Monstrous circles, my character becomes an NPC.
>If I don't want to lose my character, I now have to be a total dick and drop down to Mortal 2, then down to Mortal 1, then down to Neutral, then down to Monstrous 1.
>If I would drop down to the lost Monstrous 2 circle, I instead regain the Monstrous 2 circle. I can then drop down to it if I continue being a dick.
>I now have wiggle room and am not at risk of my character becoming unplayable because he's too much of a good boy, at the cost of having had to act completely out of character and drop down from Mortal 3 to Monstrous 1.

It's very ass-backwards game design. Make the rules that cover cause and effect, how to succeed at a given task, or moving around in a physical space basic and rules lite. But create very detailed, dense, and restrictive mechanics to cover the immensely nuanced thing that is a character's personality and morality. The thing that, ideally, should be entirely under the player's control mind control notwithstanding, obviously is the thing least under their control, and the mechanics designed to simulate how the world itself functions under cause and effect, is simplified, streamlined, and the player given more metacurrency to influence it.

It's all backwards, I think. It's like a tabletop game created by Drones.

>>
>>98429789
Okay so reading through the playtest, in this edition vampires really don’t have hp because most stuff just bounces off them. Vitae is your health pool, but in-world you’re not actually getting injured, you’re spending Vitae to shrug off the hits and when you run out you just go straight to Torpor. Unless it’s Baneful (aggravated) damage in which case you just die.

Recovery is feeding only. the trade-off is a bigger pool, most characters will have 11-15 Vitae since it’s 10+Stamina. And there’s also a social HP bar (Willpower) which is counted separately, so if someone is actively embarrassing you in public that might damage your social hp, but not your Vitae bar.

I can see how that works for the other supernaturals too.
>Werewolves can survive anything as long as they’re angry enough.
>Mages manipulating reality within their paradigm to get around getting hurt (drink an elixir, Matrix dodging bullets, etc)
>Changelings having literal plot armour until banality overpowers their narrative

I think this will work for a foundation of a system. I was worried it'd be a little too vampire specific, like Hunger Dice.

I feel like that would deflate any feeling of danger whatsoever, the only way a mage can die is if he's caught by suprise, but this gives them a safety cushion to just shrug off an ambush and get away/retaliate.

>And hey, this wacky HP system with Vitae and Stamina will at least make combat better I think.

Can't know for sure without lengthy playtests, but I doubt it. Over-incentivizes mid-combat feeding and gives massive advantages to whoever gets the first strike off. Especially when a two dot power like the new arms of the abyss is listed as having a 2 vitae cost. It means that swinging back the advantage in a fight when you're at a disadvantage is going to be far more difficult and risks putting you into one-shot range. Which means fights will be much more likely to be one-sided stomp fests in either direction, based on whoever gets the first heavy connection.

Btw, if you're wondering why this game is weirdly crunch-heavy in odd points, encourages adversarial GMing, and has a bunch of bolted-on fantasy RPG conventions, I have the explanation.

Their lead dev is a Brazilian OSR guy.
>>
>>98429916
it doesn't work as a crutch for those who cannot or don't want to run a game
those who watch matt mercer and the like, and think a gm must be a voice actor, and literally tell you they're too dumb for gming won't become storytellers because you fill a chapter of the rulebook with drama points and story triggers
go write some pages on how to write npcs and cities in vampire instead for fucks sake

Lots of games make the ST/GM/DM into a "class" with mechanics all their own these days. It's hip. It's novel. It gives the inexperienced a crutch to lean on. I'm playing Cain and I'm mostly ignoring the story teller rules and doing whatever.
>>
>>98429926
Alternatively, the players could just trust the ST to come up with negative consequences for their continuous botching on their own, instead of having to implement a system like this for it.

It seems like 10 max is base human level. Vampires get a higher max of 10 plus whatever because of Vitae. For now, I'd probably narrate combat as near misses and lucky moments. Or, just do the nathan drake uncharted thing where they dodge everything and running out means they've lost all their "luck" means they get one shot.

I kinda like this, but it seems backwards.
A mechanic that a Storyteller has to spend points so the player wont do it seems like the most boring and control freak situation.

It would be better if the Storyteller could offer this, or the player could spend some point (now that we have ALL the token points in the world, drama, quickening and vitae, why not use willpower again) to use this stuff.

I'm gonna remain cautiously optimistic until the first wave of feedback goes through and we see what they're willing to re-examine.
>>
>>98430041
There's some important context, where Gygax's players were power gamers and puzzle crunchers that loved to outsmart him and viewed meat grinders as a challenge to be overcome. Their characters were, consequently, utterly disposable for the most part, and new rules and mechanics were often invented on the spot in the early years. The Cleric's famous Turn Undead, which you may recognize from such greatest hits as Divine Metamagic: Persistent Spell, was actually invented as an ad-hoc solution to a vampire PC who was too powerful to be killed in normal combat.
>>
I really dislike these systems that use abstracted stats for NPCs. I can see the appeal, but they break down hard when engaged outside of their Intended Scenario.

I also think that a degree of simulationist design is needed in any game where mind/emotion control is a common and major power.

>I'd probably narrate combat as near misses and lucky moments

>>98430137
Yes. But also the hobby wasn't really established back then, which is what much of the stress testing nature of the games was for. Aside from disposable characters (Melf, one of the greatest wizards of all time, famously doesn't have a real name), Gary near exclusively equated the role of games master to that of a referee whose job was to solely set challenges and adjudicate disputes. The players were free to become overpowered or die in obscurity because the world was set with no regards to them, and any clever exploits invented by abusing mechanics or the world around them were considered inherently fair play and clever use of resources.

If I had the perfect health system I'd have made a homebrew for it and would be shouting it from the mountaintop.

The practical problem is that in order to change health, you invariably have to change how damage works, and in turn then change every power that interacts with health and damage. It's why homebrewing custom powers is easy, but new core rules is very difficult.

I hate CofD the least, but it can be annoying to book keep when characters are taking multiple types of damage at once.

They fell for the common trend of a parody/comedy show getting unexpected praise for its non-comedic elements, and turned it into a dramedy with increasing emphasis on the drama. Same trap Team Four Star and Venture Brothers fell into.

I can see how a game designer could talk themselves into a lot of this, like the vitae = health and the fuck ass humanity system. These are very "game designer" ideas that don't take into consideration actual, regular play. Horrible ideas, but I can comprehend how one gets there.

What I can't understand is what the fuck they're doing with the disciplines. V5, at least, was coherent in its vision for changing the disciplines. Get rid of "unnecessary" disciplines and fold them into existing ones. I don't agree with it, both in theory and in practice, but again, it follows logically. But axing some disciplines, restoring others, and inventing two new ones? What the fuck? How did you even get there?

I can tell you that, this was their poorly executed attempt to mend the fanbase schism by trying to please the OWoD, CofD, and WoD5 fans by blending the mechanics of all 3 game designs(already an impossible task) AND they're trying to attract disgruntles D&D 5e fans by mixing in elements from D&D 5e and Pathfinder 2e.

If you know anything about the gaming industry, this is a clear "middle manager game". A game where poor business performance has motivated middle managers to stick their fingers in every level of the design process in a desperate attempt to save the business, but only succeed in ruining the product by chasing trends they don't understand.

I mean. Why even be the son of the devil if you dont have a demon form? Plus its malleable free stat increases do you can be a tank or a gun bunny or get a crapton of strength. Going full extra Dex with a shotgun is fun with the "n" again rules. I think i had something like 7 again with my shotgun so I could stack so much damage if i activated it. Eventually I died to the ST being a faggot, who basically kidnapped Officer Bayard through a portal out of nowhere & had him fight a monster solo with no escape. So I rolled up a new character, using the witchfinder rules, an Irish American stoner druid. Who could shapeshift, entangle people with vines, run fast, & other fun stuff. I became a much more annoying thorn in his side as now instead of just being an investigation guy with a dog & a demon form I had all kinds of versatility he didnt like. Eventually the game died because he had an monster/NPC rape players characters in their dreams/nightmares.

Man I love that Castigation. They really almost got things perfect with Endowments because some of them are treated like gear or singular powers with a narrow focus & they work well in that regard as you build utility as you upgrade your dots & then some of them rely on your ranks in the Endowment like Castigation, where having Mark of the Beast/devil trigger is really only useful once you have a few points in it, so youre encouraged on a meta level to take useful utility but not that powerful powers like Familiar at the beginning & then around 3-5 dots go in with hellfire & mark of the beast where you can really benefit from you high dots

And yes. That particular ST was fucking retarded. Loved to gloat & be in control but had no grasp of mechanics or rules so he made sweeping decisions & just made all enemies into "fight until it feels right" no matter how much damage you sent their way. He ran a game of exalted where I had an Earth Dragonblood monk guy with a stunning power martial art & a big tetsubo. I was able to stun people for as many rounds as I rolled in damage in exchange for doing no damage or something like that. One hit on his big villain followed by several rounds of us turning him to mince meat & suddenly my power never worked on anything ever again. Just a outright asshole of a person

Protean is folded into Animalism now. Which I don't generally dislike all in all. Unlike in V5 there isn't that "you can only have as many powers as dots" bullshit. Gaining a dot of a Discipline in-Clan is New Dot x 5 and you get a power of equal or lower dots for "free". Then you can spend Dots x 2 to pick up any power you don't have so Gangrel maintain easy access to everything they used to have, plus get Celerity in-clan now too. On top of that Clans get more unique traits than they used to so Earth Meld is exclusive to Gangrel and they can have that to start with. Which I think is important because the flip side to this is that Nossies are getting "Protean" too but they also get a couple of unique extras too.

That is all certainly different but I think it's a major improvement over V5 and if all the Clans end up more distinct I can't say I have a real problem with it either. Plus there are Ancilla Clan traits too, and presumably Elder ones, which sounds like a good direction to go in to address some of the issues of vamps feeling a bit flat at those sorts of tiers. I also think people are skipping reading these things all together but they're pretty important parts of where Clan identity was retained.

>>98430024
>>98430028
Serpentis also survives as Ministry Neonate and Ancilla Traits, they might be more snaky now than they've been in a while. The Neonate stuff is Beguiling Words (forked tounge, lie real good), Eyes of the Serpent (seems more like Enchanting Gaze to me but still Serpentis), and Serpent Speech (does what it says). The former and latter scale with Gen, Eyes improves at Ancilla. The Ancilla stuff is Heart of Darkness (its Heart of Darkness), and Divine Image (its Divine Image) both scale with Gen. I do like Serpentis but it's one of those Disciplines whose niche is just being other Disciplines so making it more unique to Setites and giving them something else in its place is probably a good move.

Endowments are good, Vigil is good. There's only so much to say because aside from a few questionable core rules (true of both nWoD and CofD in different ways) I'd say it's an all-around perfect game (for what it's trying to be).

I wish the combat was a bit more refined, but perfect combat is kind of a holy grail for TTRPGs in general. Nobody's ever really made a game with perfect combat, even the games that focus on it, which WoD doesn't.

The real issue is how D&D derivative character creation is, and the move to simplified NPC stats and other "trendy" game-ist design choices. It's weird to think that oWoD, aka one of the first narrative-focused games, is more simulationist than any new game on the market.

Did you know that the first Matrix was designed to be a perfect human world? Where none suffered, where everyone would be happy. It was a disaster. No one would accept the program. Entire crops were lost. Some believed we lacked the programming language to describe your perfect world. But I believe that, as a species, human beings define their reality through suffering and misery. The perfect world was a dream that your primitive cerebrum kept trying to wake up from. Which is why the Matrix was redesigned to this: the peak of your civilization. I say your civilization, because as soon as we started thinking for you it really became our civilization, which is of course what this is all about. Evolution, Morpheus, evolution. Like the dinosaur. Look out that window. You've had your time. The future is *our* world, Morpheus. The future is our time.

No, it's because they already ruined Werewolf so they have to make sure Mage gets it turn to be shit on. Notice that Changeling also gets mentioned in their plans.
>>
>>98430830
I could understand that logic if not for the existence of the new stuff actively killing new supplements for the old stuff. Which in the case of WoD, it demonstrably did. HtV2e was cut tragically short with only a single official supplement because of Paradox's fuckery, so I reject the notion that I should want new (bad) shit just because it's different.

Same reason they're skipping Hunter, everyone still prefers Vigil and they've put a stamp on the new IP's lore and worldbuilding to be able to pull from in later books. So there's no reason to really make a Hunter 6, Werewolf 6, etc yet while Mage and the rest are still on what they probably think of as an archaic and chuddy version. They're probably high priority since they have the weird sexual shit going on also, like Hermione masturbation or dog girl pooka

It sucks for WoD that's not really a new edition problem but a Paradox support problem. If OPP suddenly decided to stop making 20th to work on a new thing out of the blue, I'd agree, but it was out of their hands. I also didn't say you should want new stuff. I said I, myself, personally want the new stuff to try new things with the opportunity. No one is trying to sell you anything I was just talking about my own personal views on the subject of editions changing things up. If they're gonna exist I'd like them to at least exist for a reason and not be there just to rebuy more of the same.

>>98430877
More likely that WtA and HT"R" aren't that old so they're doing things without a 5e so they can then make a 6e of woof and hunter after more time has passed. It also lets them build up more positive receptions to the line given that H5 and W5 didn't sell well at all.
>>
>>98430826
Personally, I'm not a fan of most of the oWoD splats, so I'll have to disagree with you there. I'll even go so far as to say that besides serious mechanical improvements, Requiem has some fun stuff in it lore wise. The main problem is that its bread and butter (Clans and Covenants) don't have the legs required to carry the game the way Masquerade was largely carried by its Clans.

Genuine question for the anons btw, since there seem to be a lot of Vigil players here. Would you guys be interested if I made some Vigil STV books? I've got a few ideas kicking around in my head, much as I hate editing stuff.

That book ends with the player becoming the next deathlords and building New Stygia on a Far Shore safely away from the chaos.
Orpheus takes place in Old Stygia.

Interesting. They kept Hecata’s Auspex, but also the G*ovanni’s Potence. If they revert the Clan name back to Hecata, all they’d have to do is switch Potence for Fortitude.

i might get flak for it but i actually like blood sorcery being a Obtenebration and Abyss Mysticism kinda deal where a normal discipline has rituals, but i feel like assamite, tremere, setite sorcery and koldunic sorcery shouldn't be the same discipline in this case (as should shadow magic and necromancy)
>>
>>98431210
I think chances are good. They've done a lot to take all Vampire editions into account here and while I don't love all the platters it at least seems written with a good understanding of the whole line. Assuming you believe the dev blog they did play them all for this project too. They've walked back a lot of what V5 did in the metaplot even. Which I felt was gonna be a big sticking point.
>>
>>98431258
Blood magic's entire theme and identity is that it's NOT a discipline though.
You can't use it while frenzied, you can't get it from diablerie, ghouls aren't limited to 1 dot when learning it, non-ghoul mortals can learn it, etc.
Making it into Abyss Mysticism is just pissing on 30 years of lore.

Blood Sorcery was simply Sorcery powered & themed by blood. Its a Not!Discipline like Necromancy. Cappys had Mortis which wasn't Necromancy. Abyss Mysticism. Settite Sorcery, AssMite Sorcery, etc all just diluted the waters. The devs wanted to spread out the idea of Vampire Sorcerers beyond just Tremere. Modern WoD like V5/v6 cant handle the nuance & breath of systems like that anymore. Theyve abandoned everything for simplicity & dumbed down & keyworded, & categorized every little thing til the system chokes on it.

>so can vampires learn regular sorcery paths then? or does it only go one way.
Probably only one way otherwise you'd have vamps picking up path of hellfire instead of lure of flames.
>>
>>98431339
It gets converted. Its WHY blood sorcery/Thaumaturgy is so powerful. Its just Sorcery but Vitae powered. All sorcery can be learned by Sorcerers.
>Thaumaturgy
>Abyss Mysticism
>Settite Sorcery
>Necromancy
>Hekau
>Mortal Sorcery
>Chi Powers
>Etc

It's all just "magic" with sometimes different power sources. But again, those power sources are all the same power but different flavors/Resonances so they arent always directly compatible without things like paying extra.

Adding to this, the reason Blood Sorcerers are scary is because most other sorcerers can only hold a handful of their respective Power Source & is slow to recover, while Bloodpool expands exponentially with Generation & is easy as finding something to drink to restore it.
>>
>>98429789
I kind of like the idea of discipline powers "maturing" as you gain higher levels.
>>
>>98431368
It's actually established consistently that blood magic is more powerful than mortal magic. Though, hellfire is stronger than the path of flames, but as we've hammered on, the devs are really bad at the game.

Mortis is a Discipline of the Cappys that is actual Death powers. Necromancy is a Sorcery powered & themed by Vitae, many Paths of which were developed by the Gio's study of Mortis. Its kinda like the difference between Celerity & Temporis.

>Adding to this, the reason Blood Sorcerers are scary is because most other sorcerers can only hold a handful of their respective Power Source & is slow to recover, while Bloodpool expands exponentially with Generation & is easy as finding something to drink to restore it.

>>98431367
eeeeh that depends heavily on the book you use as primary source. tome of secrets says you can't learn sorcerery as is but you can make a counterpart blood sorcery path losely based on sorcery path other books like 1e sorcerer say you can learn sorcery paths as it as blood sorcery so long as there is no counterpart already existing in vtm and another books "wolves of the sea" might say that you need a expensive merit for that but the last one is written so weirdly that the merit might be about powering non blood sorcery paths with blood and not what allows you learn the sorcery in the first place... and revised sorcery let's it 100% up to the ST

how blood sorcery and sorcery relate is one of the messiest thing in wod

again true in the first dark age edition but mortis in the second edition of dark age has paths and rituals it's really just proto necromancy it even has some giovanny necromancy paths already which means that the cappadocians just had a skill issue instead of being a inherently worse bloodline as the first edition tried to portray them

and v20 and dav20 then just make it necromancy

>>98431366
While I understand streamlining the process of managing multiple adversaries, I'm not sure I agree with making STing completely dice-free by default, on top of the Drama system.
It just feels like STs are no longer being trusted to run games using their own judgement and there are now a bunch of rigid rules to define how they're allowed to referee and arbitrate games, instead of just being trusted by their players to make a cool world and challenging encounters.
I can't wait for:
>Um, ST, you need to spend 3 Drama in order to do that. Please spend 3 Drama, otherwise you're breaking the rules of the game.
>>
>>98431415
Despite the name, Hellfire isn't actually about throwing fireballs. It's a generic lump of elemental attack magic that you can shape whenever you cast it. Meaning it's not only larger and stronger than the path of flames, it's more versatile to boot. People don't really care since it's the gun spell and practically replicated by gun, but it's very flexible in how it guns.

>>
>>98431484
If shit hits the fan, you can always try to seduce them.
>>
>>98431362
It's not my favourite thing but it doesn't often affect the functionality of a game in a serious fashion. I think the majority benefit it has is with player engagement more so than streamlining. Keeping players alert only makes the game more fun and if they're aware they need to physically roll dice outside of their turn I've found it can help with that. Which isn't a thing every table needs help with but I've not found there to be much downside to it either. It's just one of those things.

>>98431422
I don't think it's really about trusting the ST so much as it's about abstracting tension into something more tangible. Every game I've played with some sort of GMetacurrency has had a similar level of impact. Players start off pretty cavalier but as the session goes on they get much more cautious and start weighing up the costs of failure more. It also lets GMs be meaner without it feeling adversarial. Bad things that come out of nowhere, even if dramatic or interesting, are often less interesting than bad things that happen directly from something you did. This sort of currency helps bridge the two by making it feel like all the terrible stuff is because of something you did. If you're climbing a pipe and it breaks despite rolling a success that can feel unfun even if it makes the later scenario better by stopping you from skirting around something interesting. If you paid the GM off to save your skin earlier and then a pipe breaks, even if you succeeded it tends to feel more like a consequence of your actions. Because it is, just at the table instead of in the game. It's not a thing that works for everyone, and I've never had a rules lawyer like that at my table, but I do think it's a paradigm that can be genuinely very effective.
>>
>>98431446
Currently, the ST can decide what resources an NPC has, so that sort of quibbling is pointless. However, with Drama, the whole process of Storytelling is now strictly regulated by a resource.
Want an NPC to survive after they've been defeated? You must spend Drama.
Want some hunters to ambush your players? You must spend an amount of Drama dependent on the encounter's difficulty.
Want a scene to feature heavy rain that making hiding easier and tracking someone harder? You better believe that will cost you 2 Drama, ST.

I'm aware that you can just get rid of this system entirely, but then you need to get rid of the Devil's Bargain system and part of the Choose Your Pain system, both of which the game has likely been balanced around.
>>
>>98431466
not really what happened. they retconned the beckoning from being the implied work of the antediluvians to the work of "blood god" level methusulah in the gehenna war book

The very core of blood magic is the Vitae itself. If you don't have it, you can't do blood magic. Full stop. If you want to do blood magic, you have to source that Vitae. You can learn the rites, but you can't do them.

>>98431367
Yes. Sorcery is just Sorcery. Anyone can theoretically learn it. This is not to be confused with True Magic, which requires an Awakened Avatar, which Vampires empathically do not have (or they do and it becomes the Beast, but that's speculative).

A fourth vote to break the tie?
>>
>>98431515
Keep in mind, you only need FIVE drama for an all out bullshit super attack on the players. It doesn't need that much stockpiling.
>>
>>98431519
Are the police gonna kick your door down for breaking drama rules, but also let you go for changing shit in other editions?
>>
Keep in mind, Critical Role doesn't even play Daggerheart on stream anymore. They're using D&D 5.5
>>
>>98431515
As would I, though I think it's less a problem of metagaming and more a problem that the ST can't just decide the difficulty of an entire session in advance, some are bound to have more shit happen than others and that's fine, drama and quickening seems like an extra layer of convolution that could just be handled but having better actual mechanics
>>
>>98431524
>Dude if you don't like it just change it
That could be used to deflect all criticism about any TTRPG ever. We're critiquing what was written and pointing out that it's a dumb system as it is written. "Dude just change it if you don't like it" adds nothing to the conversation.
>>
>>98431425
Discipline-wise clans were always a mix and not even every clan had something unique there. V6 is making disciplines less unique from what I can tell but is making clans more unique in other ways beyond the weakness and spread. Frenzy manifests a little different for each but they also get some unique traits that are somewhere between merits and powers. Brujah get to either add Potence to melee, provoke violence in others, or wrestle better. Gangrel have earth meld, feral whispers, and a thing that lets them make animals they compel tougher. So it's a bit of a mix of consolidation and greater diversification from the looks.
>>
>>98431399
I'm going to wildcard it and say Uggla
>>
>>98431528
You think no offical story is ever going to have special or boss encounters? It's always gonna be weak to mid encounters? It really sounds like you are obsessed with following the rules (of an alpha) to the absolute letter, which I doubt you're doing with whatever edition you prefer.
>>
>>98431523
But then you don't have the Drama required to make the encounter more challenging in other ways, like giving the Elite NPC extra actions, recharging their abilities or regenerating their Health and/or Willpower.

Sure man. Like I said, it's not for every table. I was just speaking to my own experiences with it. Although you don't have to keep the pool public if you don't want and I'm sure not using it wouldn't break the game.
>>
>>98431530
I'm saying it doesn't seem to present a new unique problem compared to previous editions. You can absolutely throw some unbalanced shit at your players and curb stomp them just like before.

clans have been losing uniqueness since revised because the current writers are afraid to do anything offensive though

‘‘In da clurb, we all vam’’.
>>
>>98431510
That is a part of my thought process. In my experience, most people wont pull theirs if they dont feel like they need to. If youre gonna fight then they will fight, if you look twitchy then they get twitchy. I also have a fear of collateral damage. There are few things that terrify me quite like someone innocent being injured inadvertently by my actions. Knives to me greatly reduce the risk of that occurring.

Hmm it seems someone got impatient. Do I make new bread tomorrow or just let that one take its place?

My grandmother once told me that when she came to Sweden during ww2 she was some sort of attendant(?) to someone she just called "The young miss Lewenhaupt.
The young lady in question was apparently over 90 when they first met yet my grandmother, who would have been a teenager at the time, talked about her like a close friend.

So I'm voting Lewenhaupt, because my grandmother was clearly once their ghoul.
>>
>>98431601
Interesting.
May I ask where your grandmother came from?

But a Verbena already wrote M20, and you see how that turned out.

Germany.
I'm not quite clear on the details (getting stories out of the few surviving members of that side of the family wasn't easy) but it seems she was sent away at the first sign that the war was turning against them.

I only parrot /tg/ memes, so all I know is that he's a wiccan retard goatfucker. I also once looked at his blog which was literally just screeching about trump. His last post on his blog before going dark was a "this is the final stand against trump you have to vote" including a literal lord of the rings screenshot and a stand against darkness screed. And then Trump won the election which is a really really funny artifact to end your blogposting on so I felt like I had to share that.

So, when will we be getting the latest L.A.R.P. rules?

My balls have a sapphire coloration. I was surprised we hit image limit as quickly as we did. I actually was excited for the next bread though. Screenshot of a satan post along with a call for everyone's predictions for the new HtP episode. Was thinking of a reward system for prediction accuracy but not quite sure what to hand out for each tier.

If they wanted that, they should have supported the few Youtubers who were already doing that.

Good thing you got cucked, then, because what's relevant right now is making fun of the V6 playtest, not some tv show.
>>
>>98431715
It's four one in a thousand posts happening in the same thread. How rare. Maybe Satan really did bring us V6
>>
>>98431717
My anticipations were: Today we were going to shit talk v6. Tomorrow the HtP people will come in and take up a large part of the thread along with anons still shit talking V6. Once we made it past friday, Saturday will tapper back to more "normal" levels of traffic.

Considering the traffic. I feel like there is a good chance the other thread will hit image limit before the new episode drops. If that is the case then I can still make the bread I wanted to make.
>>
>>98431728
Considering how much there is to shit talk about V6 the only thing that's stopping the rage from continuing is the lack of people trying to argue against it.
>>
When will we get Hunter: the Parenting 6th Edition?
>>
>>98431734
I'm not sure they even plan to acknowledge 5th edition beyond a few bits.
>>
>>98431755
According to them it's mostly 5e with some 20th thrown in. This is also sort of because they have to.
>>
>>98431732
True but the v6 images being posted along with reactions, I wouldnt be surprised if image limit was achieved sometime before the new episode drops.

Bruccato has written the verbana tradition book, the black furies tribe book and those have remained his "main factions" so to say as authors for the entire run of owod

he also seemed to at least have believed the stuff about the feminine spirit that was put down by the patriarchy which he put into those books and the nwod furry book he wrote as that is apparently 1 to 1 from the wicca cult where he got the satyr name from

What were vampires doing during the Impergium? Do they have any history from back then ?
>>
>>98430715
>that's antisemitic
As Werewolf should be
>>
>>98432323
The Impergium began in prehistory, before the earliest civilizations, when humanity were still troglodytes that had just discovered fire. At the time the list of vampires was very short and perhaps only Caine himself existed at the time. Enoch was already a booming city when Caine appeared and started siring childer. By then the Garou had already started turning on eachother over who wasn't enforcing the Impergium zealously enough.
