I'm guessing even if you go into comba5 with zero drama points, you'll be able to generate enough. Even if that's not how the current numbers are balanced, it's still in Alpha. The game wants you to gain and spend Drama.

Someone re-share the playtest caps so it's up here nice and early to be picked apart. They did nothing to get rid of the new setting, enshittified the rules, and seem to have added nothing of value. They're even doubling down on the "duskborn" shit.

So what's the worst part of V6?

Discipline changes?
Quickening?
Life paths?
Humanity Scale?
Drama points?
Lore changes?
Vitae as health?
Conditions?
>>
>>98431561
The V6 (official!) Playtest documents are up for everyone to download on DriveThruRPG. They are also on Demiplane and Roll20 (I think) but I don't use either of those so you'll have to find them yourself.

There are two required books, the Players and ST Guides, plus the playtest scenario.

Players Packet: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/578154/vampire-the-masquerade-playtest-player-packet-pdf

Storytellers Packet: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/578155/vampire-the-masquerade-playtest-storyteller-packet-pdf

Reposting because V6 stole my (You)s.

I'm solo playing Rite of Passage with my first W20 character to learn the splat, pls rate and rec some fun gifts or ideas. Rabagash Homid Bone Gnawer. Concept: Clueless Weldwolf.

Morris Jones had always gotten screwed by the system. Go to trade school they said, welding's easy money they said. What they didn't say was how long the line was for a union job and how many fancy certs and courses you'd need for the big money jobs in nuclear plants, refineries, and factories. To top it off, after years of chop shop gigs and living off O'Tolley's leftovers in mum's trailer, dad had the gall to come back after years of abandoning you two and spouting some bullshit excuses about a worm and trying to get you to go live with him. Fuck that, you just got a shiny envelope offering you a Sponsored Training and Career Program with motherfucking Endron. Time to cash that ticket all the way to the big leagues and Big Money.

The Human v Beast balancing act is a neat idea, but it does need balancing. There's no reason to pursue humanity and all the reason to stay on the beast side of the spectrum. At least put some bonuses and maluses on both sides to encourage going back and forth.

Not really but it is walking back some of V5's stuff. The Beckoning has ended and SI seems to have collapsed under its own weight. AI and the like has helped to sure up the masquerade although it's still pretty fragile. The Hecata might have been dissolved too? Giovanni are a clan again and the slide at gencon mentioned the Promise of 1528 is "right around the corner" so the 500 year limit on that seems to be correct. Otherwise Anarchs are struggling with power and Sabbat are doing Sabbat things in new ways. The playtesr doesn't have most of the setting chapter though just some highlights.

Mortal does have the Blush of Life benefits, which I think is supposed to counterbalance the extra Discipline die that Monstrous 2 gets and the Discipline die that Mortal 2 loses, but I think that a difference of 2 Discipline dice is enough to convince most players to go Monstrous almost every single time. The Blush of Life benefits just aren't significant enough.
>>
>>98431584
>At least put some bonuses and maluses on both sides to encourage going back and forth.
Hell didn't most editions already have mechanical rewards for being on the human end of the spectrum like being able to function if your haven gets raided in the day or getting two more hours a day to work with?
>>
>>98431551
What are they adding that is potentially offensive, narratively or mechanically, to any of the clans? You actually need to commit to the bit. Trade-offs need to be real while maintaining narrative-mechanical congruence.

>>98431563
You don't need to play bad games to be here.

>>98431566
The explicit threat that they will bring Mage into the setting and subject it to the same violations they subjected Vampire, Werewolf, and Hunter to. I'm not even a magefag, I just want it to stop.
>>
>>98431566
I'm trying to picture how "vitae is health" will translate to the other books.

>Mages have their quintessence added onto their health. The more magic you do the more the universe lashes back at your body with paradox.
>Changelings have their, uh, fey whimsy and madness added to their health. When you are reduced to zero you are consumed by banality and die a mortal death.
>Werewolves add their Rage to their health. You are too angry to die so easily.

The thing is, vampires can regain Vitae super easy. Just eat something. What are the other lines gonna do to keep up? Will vampires just be super regenerative with feeding?
>>
>>98431566
Either Humanity or Drama for me. I think the rest of it is interesting and often an improvement of V5. I like a lot of the new Discipline stuff. Might be the best they've been from a purely structural standpoint. The two I mentioned I'm unsure of in play but can't say it's bad until I get it to the table.

>>98431576
I'm surprised at how much I don't mind the Protean thing. Gangrel have always been my Clan and it's 90% because of Protean but I'm not sure they've really lost anything in this change and they get Earth Meld without it which is the most iconic Gangrel thing to me. My big worry about it is whether Tzimisce will eat their lunch but otherwise I kinda think it works.

"Walking things back" doesn't cut it. They need to retcon all of gWoD and can the setting, because just "walking it back" still implies that all the things V5/W5/H5 pushed still happened, and walking it back at this point just makes things *more* nonsensical in relation to oWoD, not less.

So when the powers still exist what's there to be upset about? I can still turn into a bat and claw people's eyes out and sink into the dirt to sleep..

Which way will Changeling go?
>play as a cursed human with fey powers
>play as a fey that was raised as a human
I really hope we get to be, y'know, actual Changelings instead of cursed humans. Plus, I feel like it would be a nice contrast to Vampire. Vampires experience an external trauma that leaves them forever changed. Changelings discover something internal that set them apart from other people.

I said the game had more things to add uniqueness to the clans and then some anon replied to me by saying they'd done the opposite in the past because of offensiveness. So I asked why that mattered when they're adding in more unique things now.

Leviticus 17:11-14

11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.

12 Therefore I said unto the children of Israel, No soul of you shall eat blood, neither shall any stranger that sojourneth among you eat blood.

13 And whatsoever man there be of the children of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, which hunteth and catcheth any beast or fowl that may be eaten; he shall even pour out the blood thereof, and cover it with dust.

14 For it is the life of all flesh; the blood of it is for the life thereof: therefore I said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall eat the blood of no manner of flesh: for the life of all flesh is the blood thereof: whosoever eateth it shall be cut off.

>Disciplines are largely arbitrary
They're not, though. They represent a narrative-mechanical congruity, often representative of the nature of a given vampiric bloodline. You could theoretically remove all disciplines completely and just let everyone pick whatever powers they feel fit themselves, but you'd lose an essential element of clan identity and one of the things that connects one vampire to the other vampires of the same type. Exceptions to this should not be the rule, because then the fact that it is an exception loses its meaning, limiting rather than broadening unique expression because character identity is contextual to a given framework.

While I'm not going to call Protean thematically strong or pretend that it could not have been tightened up, there are several aspects which does not fit into things like Animalism or Vicissitude, as Protean is representative of the mutability of the own body and the powers of the Beast itself.

>>
Anyone ever play a non-mage or even a different splat/monster with Do martial arts?
>>
>>98431579
I have some undercooked gifts so take a look if you find anything you like.

>Deny the gift of memory
By locking eyes with with a mortal the werewolf may cause trigger a lesser, some would say kinder, form of lunacy upon the victim stopping them from forming inconvenient memories of the moment.

Effect: After locking eyes with the target the player rolls Rage, difficulty equal to the target's Willpower. On a Success the target does not form any memories of the current scene and will forget any information they learned during it.

>Bark & Babble
The weaver gave humanity the ability to communicate complex ideas through mere vibrations in the air, by bribing a spirit of air the all the victims words are turned to dog barks.

Effect: By spending 1 Gnosis and rolling Manipulation + Occult, difficulty to the target's Rage, or 3 if the targets lack the trait, lose their ability to speak any human tongue for one day/success.

>Tyranny over Tools
With a shout the homid strikes fear on the spirits within the weapons of their enemies.

Effect: The player spends a point of Rage and an action to cowl the spirit of an object. Roll Charisma + Intimidation each success increases the difficulty to use the object against the werewolf and their allies by one. The penalty only last 1 action.

All of these are first drafts to take them with a pintch of salt

>"Banu Haqim"
>[in development]
I see that they have still not decided whether to return to their clan curse being wearing blackface or not. It would uniroically be the based decision so they will obviously not do that.

It's also hilarious that they are returning to "Giovanni" but still insist on "Banu Haqim" and "Ministry". Since they refuse to retcon their shitty setting away, I cannot wait to see what they will pull out of their ass to explain it.

>They represent a narrative-mechanical congruity, often representative of the nature of a given vampiric bloodline.
Which I think is maintained here. Gangrel haven't lost anything and what they gained is Celerity which is mostly on theme for them. They're feral and animalistic so reflexes and speed line up in my opinion. Nossies have gained more shapeshifting but for freaks and spies I wouldn't say that's out of their purview even if it is different to prior editions.

>you'd lose an essential element of clan identity and one of the things that connects one vampire to the other vampires of the same type
I don't think that's meaningfully changed. Gangrel have unique stuff and Gangrel share the same spread.

>Exceptions to this should not be the rule
There isn't an exception really being made here. The powers got shuffled around vs. older editions but it's set in its own game.

>there are several aspects which does not fit into things like Animalism
It's animal shape stuff in Animalism and I tend to think that's fine. It's now all the animal stuff. Earth Meld is just on the Gangrel itself and the jury's out on Mist Form.

Man... I am fucking working on it.

Im gonna add a few things.
Theriocephaly thats gonna give them animal heads that grant special powers. Not just attributes, but stuff like Garou Gifts & be more the Umbra version of their Necromancy Hekau. As well as a Dynasty which uses it. They're Mummies whos prefer to be unnoticed & do things unseen

Plus Einherjar for European Mummies. They'll mostly use the same Hekau, since a lot of those themes (Celestial to summon storms like Odin, Amulets are called Runes but mostly so the same thing, etc) when Einherjar die they go to the Mead Hall instead of the Judges. I also need to think of a cool Hekau specifically for them so I can bring something new to the table, & Dynasties of course.

The biggest thing to me is just getting rid of the Web of Faith/expanding it & just opening up the world to everyone. But theres a lot of rules & metaplot based around it so im not sure how to go about it.

Any & all suggestions are welcome

Autism not being seen as a super power is actually a big thing disabled people fight for. There were lots of options for having disabilities in previous editions that were removed because blind people don't want to all be Daredevil all the time.

And yet it is still a thing autists regularly parrot, to the frustration of countless parents that wants to kill themselves because they were tricked or forced into keeping their screaming fleshbag.
>There were lots of options for having disabilities in previous editions that were removed because blind people don't want to all be Daredevil all the time.
Yeah it's fucking gay. Disabilities should be disabilities, but there is also always potential ways to deal with it. Daredeviling comes naturally to the blindness. The funny thing is that the blind people would never really give a shit, it's not like any significant numbers are playing the game.

>>98431822
Because Paracucks are fucking stupid. It gets even dumber once you realize that Necromancy (as used by Vampires) was not a true Discipline in the past, it was always just blood magic, but now Blood Magic is its own singular discipline with different paths representing different types of blood magic (probably the only change I agree with), but somehow this does not include Necromancy either, because...?? Because fuck making sense, I guess.

Either all types of blood magic should be sorted under Blood Magic, or none of them should be. Make it make sense. It's not even fucking hard.

Taking on aspects of the Beast is similar but unrelated to affinity with animals. It also creates the issue where those with Animalism gets things outside of what you'd expect from Animalism, and Earth Meld being a distinctly Gangrel thing is just as stupid.

That being said, Protean is probably one of the least thematically consistent Disciplines, and out of all things to get mad over, this is not a hill I intend to die on as I regularly criticize V2/VR/V20 Disciplines already.

You need to be potentially offensive, there needs to be a trade-off, whether that is narrative (Tremere hate) or mechanical (Nossie 0 Appearance).

Trying to at every point appease everyone pleases no-one, and only makes things bland, bland, bland, bland.

Why do people praise hunter the vigil over hunter the reckoning so much? Is it just about the idea of being a "normal" guy beating up the monsters of the night? I ask because honestly it feels as if hunter the reckoning doesn't get praised for being decent or good when I wouldn't call it bad by any stretch. Like to the point when people praise hunter the vigil it's as if they've never read hunter the reckoning. Any thoughts on this?

The closest i've seen to this is Demon: The Fallen but that one I can understand why people are divided on that one.

>Taking on aspects of the Beast is similar but unrelated to affinity with animals.
Right but Animalism is about the manipulation, interaction, and mimicry of animals now. So it's thematically cohesive in its own context.

>Earth Meld being a distinctly Gangrel thing is just as stupid.
I like it because it is a distinctly Gangrel thing. It's exemplary of their survivalism and one of the most unique things of their unique Discipline. Having them retain access to it as an exclusive thing is fine by me.

>That being said, Protean is probably one of the least thematically consistent Disciplines
It's also the worst version of itself in V5 because it's spread so thin across the extra powers.

This is actually a good point, because in oWoD, Vitae is speculated to essentially be Quintessence, or variations thereof, blood being lifeforce and Vitae concentrating that, or whatever and so forth.

I guess they are either completely severing that in gWoD, or turning everyone into blood mages, with "Vitae" just being another word for "blood".

I swear to fucking god they think nothing through.

>Vitae is speculated to essentially be Quintessence
It is more than just speculated. Mages can outright consume Vitae as a form of Tass. So if health/blood is the same as Vitae, Mages just became the strongest vampires in the Gay World of Darkness, because they can just drain the life right out of things. But now I'm imagining M5 (remember, there never was an M5, so the next edition of Mage will be M5, not M6) just making Quintessence not Quintessence, because that's something I can absolutely see them do.

All magical powers without any exception are quintessence, this is made quite clear. Demon faith? Quint. Mummy Sekhem? Quint. Vitae? Quint Gnosis? Quint. The psychological energy generated by ragebaiting oWod fans on mongolian basketweaving forums? Quint.
The difference is merely the resonance. So vitae is quint with vampiric resonance, whilst gnosis is quint with gaian resonance.

>>
>>98432018
they do split it but for some reason they keep calling Obtenebration Oblivion despite it now being 100% abyss manipulation again

and there are now lasombra who don't have "Oblivion" as they gave the setites a new corruption discipline based on the path of corruption and lasombra can pick that one as 3rd discipline like tremere can pick necromancy

I fucking love the concepts and themes of Hunter: The Reckoning (no, not H4) and value it far and above Hunter: The Vigil, but if you just want to play actual humans without all the schizo and the extra powers, that's incredibly legit.

Honestly if I were to make oWoD splats, I'd make Mortal: The Vigil one of them, completely separate from Hunter: The Reckoning, and Mortal would essentially just be a very expanded Hunters Hunted that focuses on completely human organizations, possibly with some overlap between it and other splats.

Well, like I said at the start, I think they'll just have Health. The Vitae thing is written as "this is a model for vampires being undead" and it's not the core resolution so it's very easy to change. Damage wouldn't need to be fucked with more than any 5e game did between editions and NPCs already have Health. All the dice and stats will carry over but this is more of a template mechanic as written than a core feature of the ruleset. WoD games already have unique resource mechanics in their splats too so this isn't much different, and it's not far off the way they modelled damage differences either.

You're not locked in to hunting in a certain way, but there is advice on different methods of getting blood.

Hunting Options
You can describe your hunting approach in any way you want, and the Storyteller determines the appropriate test, using the standard ATTRIBUTE + SKILL – Difficulty formula. The Difficulty is 2, plus or
minus an amount determined by the circumstances of the hunt (see the Storyteller Packet for more
on determining hunting Difficulty). Here are a few examples of ways you can hunt and the tests commonly associated with them.

>Alleycat
You hunt in the dark alleys of the city, using your overpowering strength, fearsome presence, or predatory stealth to find your prey.
>Bagger
You obtain stored blood from blood banks through subterfuge, manipulation, or having the right contacts in the right places. For each extra success beyond the first, you gain one extra blood bag.
I'm not writing them all down.
>Siren
>Reaper
>Herd

Touchstones and Blood Resonance have no mention in the player or ST Alpha doc.
>>
>>98432091
I was at first just joking because Mortal: The Vigil would crib a lot from Hunter: The Vigil, but then when I thought about it I thought it fitted the part of being human, standing watch, in fear of the dark, as well as standing vigil over the dead, and so on, so I felt it appropriate. Mortals are only really prey to vampires; the mages they are sleepers, to wraiths they are the living, and so on and so forth, so I'm not sure describing them as hunted really fits, and Mortal would cover a lot of ground, from horror scenarios where you're a group just trying to survive the things that go bump in the night, to the Society of Leopold and Bob Schnoblin.

Worse. I think the devs are actually here. It's like 10:50 AM here and I think they are angry that we're pointing out all the stupid shit. But like I already said, it's all pointless unless they actually deal with the bigger issue of the setting itself. Mechanics and setting needs to match up, and their setting is fundamentally bad, partially because they never seem to have understood this, and V6 is just further evidence of that.

No I didn't, I called it like it is. You're trying to invent nonsensical scenarios to defend nonsensical design, inventing things whole-cloth in an attempt to deflect from it. You don't need to say that it is the most elegant or exceptional thing; the fact that you try to defend it in this way is the issue regardless of what you think of the design element, which was never actually raised.

What I just don't get is that who they are making this for.

There are parts that are here to clearly appeal to the old grognards like me. Bringing back some of the more unique disciplines for example. But everything else doesn't appeal or just straight up repulsive to them. Like removing Protean to make Animalism less shitty.

There are parts for V5 fans...I think but most stuff they die is basically spitting at their face too. Like bringing back unique disciplines, killing the Hecate etc.

Then there are everything else for the most casual D&D to try this game. Simplified everything (but complex on other parts), ST is treated like a force to be limited and controlled but also guided rather than actual ST/DM and players are his enemies.

Who is this for?

I mean, I'm just going to assemble a Mina in all but the name next time I play V20 with somebody, get her a dumb little artifact pistol courtesy of her riches, all that, because at this point I honestly kind of want to, she'd be an entertainingly annoying shitter to play. Connections, money, some power but a nobody in the vampiric world, and exceptionally frustrated about it, plus low humanity and a complete bitch in personality. What's not to love, this sort of character creates entertainment by her mere presence.

I'll never run this playtest, it's not worth my time or the time of the group I'd have to assemble for it. Though I can't wait to see the actual post-playtest V6 either come out a year later than intended and be a backpedaling off of all sorts of things people here and on everywhere else hate about it, or essentially just be this same halfbaked product but mildly polished.

>>98432208

I'd not bet on it, but if they are, please, White Wolf. I beg of you.
Change your new Generation-age thing which makes it so a neonate is always a high-generation schlub, and an elder is always low-generation and strong. It's just dumb and cuts into variability and options for coteries and stories for no reason. You even admit it's nonsense where you say that, technically, vamps who are of a low generation but also young age exist, and you'd need to talk to the Storyteller to figure out how to run that. You essentially just commit to a mildly common early player/skimreader mistake and canonizing it, which is silly.

I just said what's in the book, slightly paraphrased. You become detached from the conflict of man and beast, and from the pleasures and troubles of the mortal world, and decide to pursue Golconda (should that be the option you wish). That's just what's on the page. The only reason to think that's a defense is if you think that sounds cool but that's just what the book says. If you think that sounds shit then it's not a defense because it's just what the book says. I explained how Golconda works in the context of too much humanity to someone who hasn't read it. Stop being a sperg, take your pills, seethe, cope, concede, etc.

I think it's just for the same people these are always for. People who like Vampire but aren't into edition warring about it so play whichever. People who didn't like the old edition and might like a change. People who did like the old edition but are open to having a new experience. And then people who just like urban fantasy sexy vampire times or are curious about vampire and want a new jumping in point. It's not gonna win over every diehard vampire fan but I don't think anything ever would.

>>98432243
It kind of reads like an attempt to put whatever they like of V5 and V20 into a blender, simplify the result, and make it playable to the wider non-WoDhead masses so that if they get a Critical Roll caliber success, the average player group won't have to invest time into working around past the less convenient parts of V20 and V5. The Drama points are clearly a scaffolding to let somebody who's not really experienced at being a Storyteller keep things organized and moving with a system to it, for instance. I'd imagine a new Storyteller could appreciate having a system like this, at least in concept, instead of having to come up with things on the fly. I still think adding it at all is just weird at best, dumb at worst, but I can see the possible value of it.

The 'this is a watered down and streamlined version of WoD with enough flavor to try and keep both V20 and V5 fans while not scaring away normies with Totentanz' theory has a lot of holes though, like the good boy points systems being this complex, the weapons being so shallow and shitty that you might a well not try to offer the game to people who like a bit of variety to equipment, etc.

I think it's more of a case that the PC that's radically committed to being as human as possible is probably not that interesting in the long term. In the same way ending up as a murder hobo wight isn't that fun after a while. A lot of the interesting bits are in the struggle and if you're no longer struggling then maybe that's a fitting ending point. It's one of those things that feels like a player goal to me in the same way Golconda is and when you hit it there isn't a whole lot of Vampire left. So if it's mid-chronicle it might be better to reroll. Not that I think it's doing an exceptionally clean job of it right now but I get the idea, I think.

It's "simplified" from the perspective of a grognard but it's honestly stupidly complicated from the perspective of a narrative game for theater kids.
Like why the fuck is there action/bonus action/reaction economy for, the number one thing I've seen new players have trouble with in DnD? Yes it's not a COMPLEX complex idea but there is literally no need here for it. It's rules bloat by definition, even if it doesn't register as rules bloat to someone who played DnD a hundred times already.

perhaps put a "max +1" limiter on the generation modifier based on age

so a lowgen neonate has a max generation modifier of +2 instead of +1
that same vampire when they become a ancillae either stay at +2 if they are 9th gen or gain a +3 if they 8th ot 6th and so forth

I just think the replacement for morality, which is no longer a morality system, as it alters the nature of a Kindred and a number of mechanics, naturally leads players in the direction of the Beast. It's not that a temptation being there is a bad thing, it's that it devolves everything to The Path of What I Was Going to Do Anyway which Chaining the Beast preached against.
Cue players speedrunning their descent to Monstrous 2 to get powerful Disciplines, skipping all the interesting philosophical commitment and moral degeneration needed to reject Humanity to actually walk a Path of Enlightenment in the previous editions.
Chaining the Beast, Sins of the Blood and State of Grace are effectively thrown out of the window in the name of a distorted fence sitting, which places the fence right next to the Wights.
A powerplaying game of becoming a horror, but in moderation.

It also completely ignores the whole blood-bonding aspect. The overwhelmingly vast members of the pyramid wants to maintain the pyramid because they are blood-bonded and thus supremely devoted on a deep emotional level to the domitor at the next rung of the pyramid.
>but those feelings aren't reeeaaaaaaal!!
What the fuck does that even mean? No, seriously, in context, being blood-bonded, what the fuck does "real" feelings even mean?

I understand a Tremere coming out of a blood-bond after decades feeling disgusted and betrayed, at least if their domitor was an asshole. But the possibility that a domitor *can* choose to *not* be an asshole aside, that still just flat-out ignores the fact that a Tremere that is still part of the Pyramid should not want to rebel against the pyramid.

it goes even deeper than that. i think the revised prince book and blood magic book plus the tiny bit they have in the v20 anarch are good insights into house tremere

young tremere are not just blood bond they are given the understanding that even their mind might be read and altered by their regent and that this is fair price that they agreed to pay for what they will be after their apprenticeship ends although the anarch tremere that is a recuring pov in the anarch books disagrees and tells the implied group of vampires he is talking to that most wouldn't like to pay it

Unironically the pyramid are a huge part of why I like Tremere, it gives them the feeling of being stuck in a siege mentality against the world which makes sense because they usurped kindred powers and no one trusts them etc. Turning them into carefree wholesome magic sidekicks ruins them entirely.
>>
honestly with the way alternative powers in the playtest work paths might be a nerf and exp sink

in the playtest you can buy the alternative powers for a reduced price if you already have the dots and all of these powers grow if you get dots in the discipline for no extra cost

so now every discipline can have in theory hundreds of powers and be as bloated as blood sorcery for a faction of the price it's really just up to the authors to not overdo it with bloat

>Turning them into carefree wholesome magic sidekicks ruins them entirely.
100%. That siege mentality exists for a twofold purpose, not just to oppress you but also to keep you from being your coterie's bitch. The Pyramid may crush you under its weight but if anyone fucks with you that weight shifts violently to protect you. House & Clan don't fuck around when their own are in danger.

I think you misunderstand, it's not that we're "that big of a deal" or that Paradox "send people" here, interns or otherwise. It's just that we're an open forum in ways most places are not; they can actually engage with people and get genuine opinions, and this still matters to some developers and writers, nevermind developers and writers are people too, and some do actually take an interest in their products. It is not at all beyond the pale that they would be here, and that these news would pull in more of them than usual at the same time.

But they are also people, so they will be reflexively defensive over what they have invested effort into, even if that effort has been sabotaged by mandates of various kinds. It is not that every single person working at Paradox is retarded. Sometimes it's just that good people are put to work on good projects with bad mandates and bad managers, making bad product, and when criticized they take that criticism personally and circle the wagons rather than to deflect the blame to the ones that deserve it; the managers, the marketing department, human resources, the dangerhair mafia, etc.

Sins of the Blood is a great book (remember when Achilli knew what made a good one?) but that's not core book musings. It's a really good expansion on some core book ideas but ultimately ends up in a similar place. Once you hit the goal it's pretty final. You off yourself, you become a nomad, you live with the wolves, or other things that are not really the thrust of an arc but the conclusion of your story. Goals like that are pretty much always the end of the road. V6 ends before Golconda and it can, and should, do more for it later but I don't think the philosophies here are that different. Both games know these sorts of points should be final because if it's not you've just sorta hit a dead end and dead ends aren't interesting in the long term. V6 gives you less road to hit that dead end, and it isn't going to take as much dedication, but it does still take effort and intent from what I can see. It's not a thing you trip into, it's a thing you will yourself to do, and so most of the emergent stories will be in the process of getting there and there isn't a lot else to do but stay there afterwards. It's the same thing as being a wight. Once you hit rock bottom you can't really go down much further and the fun is in the fall. You could do a redemption story but those are tricky to pull off in my opinion because they take a lot of time to do well. Your PC needs to convincingly change their outlook and moral code to climb back up. If they even get the chance. I don't know if the dualistic morality system will feel good at the table yet but I don't really have a problem with a high morality end point because I never had a problem with Golconda. It's not as interesting as Golconda but I also think Golconda is a thing for later books where it can have more room to be explored.
>>
>>98429504
>At any point in a scene, you can rile your Beast or Nature and pull power from it (no action required), gaining 1 Willpower and marking off a box on that tracker.
So changing your morality in either direction is a free action? What's stopping me from simply moving 1 step towards Nature +gain 1 Willpower whenever I do a "Monstrous Act"?
>>
>>98432461
Yeah not counting the auspex based mind reading it's not at all unlike what a neonate ventrue has to go through just with blood magic and a small group of rivals to suffer with you instead of 50 years of being stuck in a office building mostly alone with your sire while learning etiquette and the like
>>
>>98432360

>>
>>98432513

>>
>>98432462
I agree with this 100%. The pyramid and a Tremere's character's relation to it, as well as the pyramid's central importance to the Tremere as a setting fixture, are all tremendously important to making the Tremere the Tremere. The whole "le heckin free tremere menses magic anti-fascism haha BUT NOT SABBAT NO that'd be too far haha" is intensely cringe.

It is completely permissible to have Tremere that attempt to rebel against the pyramid as their blood-bond fails. It is perfectly alright to have Tremere pulled out of the pyramid, "saved", and then forced into taking refuge with the Sabbat through the Vinculum. There are many different paths and stories. But the pyramid still needs to be there. It can't just be "thehee I found a spell that just let me break blood bonds no biggie".

Like shit, I can easily see people that would be spooked even after a blood-bond breaks and wanting to return to the pyramid and its safety, unless they had a particularly harrowing experience in it.

Blood-bonding is psychologically jarring if it is forced upon you, but to those eased into it or that aren't particularly opposed to whatever they are made to do, there's no sudden whiplash or feelings of disgust or regret, it just sort of fades and at best you may question why you were so into the domitor at times. But you also have no reason *not* to be, especially when you have been groomed (in the true meaning of that word) into a (very warranted) siege mentality.

Tremere may be a pyramid, but they are also one of the few clan structures that have both a) genuine systemic structure, and b) are willing to go to bat for their assets with a real "they put one of ours in the hospital we put two of theirs in the morgue" hierarchy, because they genuinely truly can't take threats lightly or consider them isolated incidents.

That's the joke, anon. In oWoD the anarch movement is part of the Camarilla, while the original anarch revolt that refused went on to form the Sabbat, i.e. another Camarilla but with blackjack and hookers and masquerade breeches.

The anarch movement being its own formalized sect is so monumentally fucking stupid precisely because it wouldn't actually change anything unless the anarchs actually want to form their own system of governance and establish and enforce new traditions, at which point they'd just be another Camarilla anyway.

but which anarch movement are we going to get
v20's "we want to create a clanless society and are trying to figure out how that might work" or v5's "we are a sect with anarch clans and really want to beat the camarilla to ensure our own freedom"
>>
>>98432544
>at which point they'd just be another Camarilla anyway.
If they manage to shake the informal traditions of being unpredictable with rewards so they can't build up their stuff and have to be kissassing for a maybe, playing neonates against each other to ensure they can't get along, setting them up to get killed on dangerous jobs if they do get along, blood bonding if that fails and then killing them if they avoid that then they'd still be an improvement over the Camarilla.
>>
>>98432552

>>
>>98432545
>Does Fortitude have sub-powers that heal others? How do V6 Salubri heal people?
yes actually it does Restore Limb and Shared Resilience but that means you can also now play a ventrue and gangrel healer

and as of the playtest i don't see anything that allows you to heal wounds smaller than a broken limp but that might be handled with clan powers
>>
>>98432284
The answer you’d probably get from the devs is “what are vibes?”
>>
>>98432545
That shit will probably be on the clan itself. V6 clams get a handful of traits they can learn that function like exclusive merits, powers, or combination disciplines. Res does have Restore Limb, and Shared Resilience at 2 dots but the former needs you to be Res 5 before it'll work on others, and the latter is just damage reduction.
>>
>>98432497

The weird part about the complains they have about the too beast or too humane system is that in reality most storytellers in my experience don't want you to be low humanity or too high on humanity. That and people typically use paths as a means to avoid having to deal with the humanity system if it's annoying enough.

I generally think most players won't agree on how humanity vs the beast should be handled expect for broad strokes. I think the V6 simplifying can work, but they won't make anyone happy. I'm honestly not sure if people would have hated it more if they just removed humanity as a mechanic.

Okay but serious now, what the actual fuck did they mean by this?
>Marking off a box on the Beast tracker represents the urges of your Beast growing stronger. Each night, its growling gets louder, and each act of hedonism or animalistic hunger for blood or desire empowers it
>. Every time you see a chance to satisfy your impulses or act on your beliefs, take it; giving a side what it wants, before it takes control by force, is the only way to hold it in check for a while. When you perform an activity that is aligned to either your [Monstrous] or [Mortal] side, erase 1 marked-off box on its respective tracker, regaining that box.
"Act of hedonism of desire" = empowers beast = +1 box
"Giving the beast what it wants = satisfies beasts = -1 box
BUT WHAT THE FUCK IS THE DIFFERENCE
Like, killing someone during feeding is +1
BUT THAT'S GIVING THE BEAST WHAT IT WANTS THAT IS ALIGNED WITH THE BEAST so it's also -1 box
>>
>>98432552
You're going to get the gWoD version and you know it. There is absolutely no indication that they are going back to the oWoD anarch movement.

>>98432560
I think that that quote sounds very much like the latter, not the former, because it's a classic Anarchist/Marxist cop-out where 'freedom' is never defined and it's just like we're going to have to see when we win against le heckin' fascists, meanwhile building oppressive structures of their own.

It's less that I want the anarchs to be ideologically consistent or anything like that, by the way - the anarchs are traditionally a hodge-podge and that makes sense in the context of oWoD at least - it's just that the oWoD anarchs at least fought for something, whether they were Communists or Fascists or Anarchists or what-have-you, the figuring it out was part of the movement.

The morality stuff is easily the most alpha content imo but I think the idea is about self-control. Killing, feeding too deeply, and riling the beast mark a box because it's all hasty, passionate action. While taking your time to do something monstrous will soothe it because you're being deliberate or methodical in your indulgence. Without giving them too much credit I think it's trying to capture that "a beast I am lest a beast I become" thing. You have to do beastly things to slowly release that tension, or else it'll boil over and you frenzy. The wording is really not very clear but I think that's the general idea. Which doesn't not work for Vampire but I think there needs to be more there to justify it.

Not being able to participate in the game is a moral choice. You can simply kill your character and sit in your chair for the rest of the session.
At the end of the day, the only way to prevent the abuse of people through the kiss is FINAL DEATH NOW.
You don't want to look at this from a moral standpoint.
>>
>>98432938

I really think the game should let you decide what's boring and what isn't. It's easy for a ST to tell a hypothetical player that now that he has a host of supernatural powers maxed out, maybe it's time for a new character or chronicle to shake things up. Or maybe you two won't actually feel that way, because playing the top dog can be interesting, what do you do now? Expand your territory? Aim higher? Defend what you already have going on? There is no limit with TTRPGs
>>

I think some in built stuff helps set expectations. The humanity stuff is basically the completion of a character moral arc and morality is the center of these games in a lot of ways. For a couple of decades, the top end has been an objective to pursue, the nebulous goal that is Golconda.

Now the reward for a character who manages to lead a moral life against all odds, is that they cease to be playable. Not because they've achieved Golconda. In fact, "I'm going to fuck off and chase rumours of Golconda" is one of the potential end-states for Beyond Mortal 3. "I want to pursue Golconda" is a goal that is now exclusively reserved for NPCs.

I'd be more okay with it if Beyond Mortal 3 explicitly triggered Golconda or a similar state, if it was remotely desirable, but no, a character who gets rid of all of their Monstrous Circles doesn't achieve anything, they just no longer care about the chronicle and fuck off to be a blood-sucking monastic monk somewhere else.

The outcome is that the Humanity Scale now encourages vampires to be morally grey jackasses, who seesaw back and forth between being an asshole and trying to be a good guy in order to maintain whatever sweet spot on the Humanity Scale appeals to them the most.
>>
>>98433089

>What is this stuff I hear about a banality nuke?
Banality wasn't a thing in dark ages, when the Firstborn(True Fae that made the changelings by having risky sex with mortals) decided to go to war with each other.
The firstborn discovered that changelings undone by baptism(aka, turned into a mortal by mortals with true faith) could be weaponized into bombs that kill armies of firstborn and changelings.
These bombs also poisoned reality, but the firstborn didn't give a shit for a while... then it started getting hard to breath...

Spirit world but for Dreams except it's not entangled like the sprit world and not the spirit world at all unless you're talking about Trods where they are partially physical and MAYBE the Silver Paths related to the Middle Umbra but also there's Dream Spirits from the actual spirit world DON'T ASK.
Before, Fae were immortal, powerful, and split into 4 houses. Then they went to war for funsies and accidentally triggered a disbelief nuclear holocaust just as the Order of Reason came into power. Modern CtD is a post-apocalypse as the Fae became Changelings struggling to survive in a world that is slowly running out of magic. They fight banality, which is the dullness and drabness that kills your soul, to get Glamour back you do things like inspire hope, make dreams come true, muse people, create love, that sort of thing. Changelings also fight the Elder Dark, which is what the Fomorians represent, an endless nightmare, which is the opposite of the Tuathan Dream of endless potential, and in a way, light.

It's a long story where they come from and what the Dreaming is, but basically the Dreaming is the place where creative energy comes from and depending of how you interpret things everything that exists was shaped from the energy that comes from the Dreaming. Think of it as raw chaos, an aspect of the Wyld. The Changeling books even talk about the Tuatha giving mankind the ability to dream.

The banality nuke is Dark Ages stuff.

For WtF, how are you meant to properly build Totems? I'm stumbling on step five.

For each Totem Point the Pack has (in the Totem Merit, across PCs and Wolf-Blooded), the Spirit gains one Attribute dot. BUT.

The Spirit must have a dot in each rank before it can gain any more, which means it needs at least three dots, three Totem merit dots across the whole Pack. But then, on Pg 183, all Spirits (Totems included) are explicitly said to be Rank 0, just 5 Essence and one Numen if you're a Totem, until they have 5 dots in Attributes. So is the intended progression meant to be;
>Invest 1 Totem Merit, get a Packwide XP point
>Invest 3 Totem Merits, your Totem now has One Power, Finesse and Resistance
>Invest 4 Totem merits, your Totem gains a new Numen
>Invest 5 Totem merits, your Totem is now a Rank One Spirit.

Am I reading this correctly? It could be phrased so much simpler.

>>
>>98433297
Have you checked the totem creation section on Page 91-92? Because I think you're confusing yourself a little bit by trying to create one like a normal NPC spirit.

You create the totem's stats from the pool of points you have based on the total totem merit shared between the pack. You then allocate its attributes, and determine its rank AFTER you've set up its attributes. It then gains its influences based on that rank. The level of benefit it conveys is also based on the total number of points it has.
>>
>>98433389

>>
>>98433402
No one actually plays Anarchs, even if Paradox begs them to. Cope and seethe.
>>
>>98433391
I'm honestly not sure. You're meant to determine how many totem points you have, determine the XP that grants the Pack and then you do all the Totem Spirit busywork, but it tells you to go to Page 183, which are the regular Spirit rules.

On Pg 92 it says;
>For each Totem point, the totem receives one Attribute dot. The totem must have at least one dot in each Attribute, and no more than half the total Attribute points can go into a single Attribute. Use these Attributes to determine the spirit’s derived traits. The Attributes also determine the totem’s Rank, determined by the chart on pg. 183.

Below that is the fact that your Totem starts with one Numen, and gets an additional one every 4 Totem Points invested in it. I'm assuming that the game doesn't necessarily want everyone to be dumping XP into the Totem merit at character-creation, it must be intended that you improve the merit through play, right? So if you start out and realise your Totem kinda sucks because they're not even Rank One, then that would be the path of progression you'd have to go through right?

nta, but even when the anarchs are the designated player faction, a lot of players tend to reject them. They also definitely weren't the focus in 2e, Revised, and V20. He's talking about what players actually play, you're talking about what the writers intended. Suffice to say, the two don't see eye to eye.

In my admittedly anecdotal experience, Camarilla games dominate and I've never even met anyone IRL that ran an anarch game. The Sabbat are more popular.

The way I read this is
>use points to determine your attributes
>rank is derived from said attribute pool
>then give it influences based on rank
>and give it 1 numen, +1 for every 4 points you give it

Sending you to 183 is just to send you to where Rank is, and and what traits spirits broadly have, not to use it as an outline for the totem spirit's creation.

You certainly could invest time in it over the course of the Chronicle, but keep in mind if a four player pack has everyone chip in 3 of their 10 starting merit dots into it, you're already looking at a 12 point totem.

No actually, there are rules for how to play a vampire in golconda and how to lose it.
There's plenty of interesting stories for golconda, not the least of which being the fact that it's only one piece on the puzzle in solving the vampire condition.

I feel like having a unified health and resource pool is this game's gimmick, like Hunger Dice. Casting magic will make paradox hurt the Mage. Using up all your fey glamor will leave you consumed by banality.

I think the Beast v. Humanity scale is what will change between games. Changelings and Mages don't really balance two sides like a vampire does. Werewolf might be cut because balancing Rage and Humanity might be too similar to Vampire now.

Ma'at is a Wyvr aspect yes, but Mummies are more than that. Their lifeforce comes from the Wyld, Ma'at is Wyvr, Duat is Wyrm, they are balanced.

Hell, True Faith is an aspect of Primal Resonance/God/Gaia. A Mummy's stat is literally called Balance because its IS balance. Balance between the Triat. Now granted, the books dont do a lot to differentiate between Wyld & Gaia, they focus way too much on the Wyvr & Wyrm, but there is a difference.

>Critical Role
They're not just chasing it, they're directly descended from it. Beyond half the mechanics being from Daggerheart or Candela Obscura, and the impact that Actual Plays have had on the hobby in general ("Yes, And" is not good advice for a table, you're not a professionally trained improv group, say no more often), the most important playtesters for any group are the Critical Role table and they have been since V5.

Go and read the sample characters. There's 7 of them, each is very coded to be a Critical Role player, the Ventrue being Marisha's and the Setite being Sam's most obviously. I'd bet money that these 'sample' characters were cooked up by the Crit Role guys as PCs for their private playtest before the public one we've got now.

It's all Critical Role. The whole way down. From mechanics to story to example PCs.

A strict reading of the rules, supported by the rules for Kinfolk, suggests that anyone at all can learn Gifts, but if you don't have Gnosis (Fera and rare Kinfolk), then you can't pay Gnosis for any costs, practically meaning you're very limited. Also, Gaian spirits aren't likely to cooperate with you unless you agree to do a job for them for the right to negotiate payment (meaning possibly another job) for the right to learn the gift. Skin Dancers learn Gifts by seeking out unaffiliated spirits (actually, it says they can learn from Banes, but also says Banes do not like them either, so who knows), but logically you can also bind a spirit with magic and compel them to teach you.

The Hunger Dice were one of the only things I actually LIKED, because Bestial Failures and Messy Crits are fun. Roll to keep your cool, messy critical. You DO keep your cool, you don't say anything, you don't even break your smile, but you shatter the glass in your hand because you're that pissed off. Good scene, came from hunger dice. Failing to pick the lock but your beast REALLY wants what's inside so you just rip the door clean off its hinges. Story consequences, moves game forward, one of the only good examples of that 'failing forward' thing I've seen.

Rouse Checks? Throw that shit in the bin, fucking awful, but I like the Hunger Dice as a mechanic, I like your crit fail not just being "you fuck up spectacularly" but "the violent animal living in you gets to have the wheel for a moment".
I got real sad when I read that the dev crew didn't like them. But then, they turned out to be so retarded that the entire playerbase collectively returned to useing gamer words to describe them, so maybe that's vindication for hunger dice.

Ahem.

TTRPGs were largely solved in the 2000 and early 2010s, everything after is either refining and iterating on what was proven to work, is for a very specific type of game with a conceit that warrants unique mechanics, or is an attempt to pander to people who don't actually have the imagination and/or intelligence required to play an RPG.

Kinda? The problem the industry faces is that it's actually just too big. The 5e normie boom and it being prolonged by Critical Role caused the industry to have a gold rush, and just like the gold rush, it very quickly became clear that there were more gold miners than gold mines. But downsizing is death if you're a company, at least, that's the philosophy nowadays what with how publicly traded companies operate. In the case of WoD specifically, the tabletop isn't actually the focus, it's glorified marketing for the video games. Now, I'd love to pick the brain of a Paradox suit as to why the hell they're still trying to make WoD into a video game juggernaut what with failure after failure, but it's possible they're just willing to eat the loss since all their other vidya ventures are profitable.

The other problem is that the internet means circulating indie RPGs is very easy, but also very unlikely to make enough money to count as anything other than supplemental income at best. Which means the indie market is flooded with hyper-specific niche games as every amateur RPG author tries to do something actually unique, because who will play their obscure fantasy game over the big boys (even if the obscure one is better).

It's just the unfortunate side effect of what is still ultimately a niche hobby having a low barrier to entry. Ideally hobby industries make money off of a small but dedicated group of hobbyists willing to pay extra for their niche interest, but that's not viable both due to ease of online circulation AND economic downturn making people stingy.

Hello frens, I come with a humble request. I know this probably gets asked a lot around here, but I ask that you please give me your opinions anyways.
My group of friends wants to play Vampire. Which edition would each of you, personally, suggest we use? There's a ton of versions of Masquerade and I think two editions of Requiem. Please give me your favourite.
Thank you!
>>
>>98434601
Naming probably. Lets you literally rewrite your sheet. Maybe their shapechanging art
>>
>>98434609
I'm the guy who made the Masquerade to Requiem conversion in the OP so I'm pretty biased here. I think it's a best of both worlds.
>>
>>98434628
Mhm, that sounds interesting. I liked some stuff from Requiem (like the covenants I think they are called, Ordo Dracul and all the others) but I prefer some other stuff from Masquerade (like disciplines and having more clans). I'll check your work out, thank you!
>>
>>98434609
What type of vampire game do you want to run anon? There's merits to both Masquerade and Requiem. The general advice you'll likely get will be to either run Masquerade using the 20th Anniversary edition rules (V20), Dark Ages Anniversary (DA20) or Requiem 2nd edition.

The 20th Anniversary books include pretty much every bit of supplemental material you would need to run a game, but that can also make them rather overwhelming and unwieldy to read. They're very rich in said material, however.

Requiem has more mechanical refinements, I don't think many people would argue. It doesn't have the world-building of the Masquerade books, encouraging you as a GM to pick from elements the book offers and fill in the gaps to make a campaign you'd want to play.

Personally I'm a fan of Requiem, in any RPG I prefer being able to build my worlds up and do my own thing. I like the broader archetypes of the five clans over the more family-oriented niches of Masquerades clans, and I like my Ordo Dracul and my Lancea Sanctum.

Your mileage may vary, but you'll make the choice that best suits you and your group.
>>
>>98434609
Play Requiem 2e + translation guide if you are well versed in rules.

V20 if you want something decent out of the box.

V5 if you really want to play low power vampires.

There's something really hilarious in BL2 (or any of the games that came out after V5) not making a lick of sense anymore due to all the changes in V6. At least with V5, you can imagine how it would work within the ruleset.
>>
>>98434668
Why not Requiem 1st edition? I own a lot of nWoD books. Most post Blood and Smoke reuse art etc.

I believe it helps if you grew up in the post sovjet nightmare to understand what communsim entails. It feels like some people in the US are very confused about politics outside of their system and communism specifically. I got really salty about edition changes back then. I felt the line lost a lot of focus, worse writing/Direction for the background stories and how it was connected (do not know the specific term). I loved how they were able to hint at things and nurture a feel of mystery in first edition. Post Blood and Smoke and Demon (I do own it), it felt as if they were grabbing concepts like the god machine and strix that were so nice at the edge of the system. Requiem in Rome managed to not make Strix mundane, Blood and Smoke did and they became less scary and interesting to me.
Also I believe they suffered financially because the quality of art etc suffered then. They were not really able to produce the same amount of books for CofD as for 1st edition, or how do you see it?

Nagaraja were cool but they had absolutely no business even meeting with the Giovanni or the Cappadocians. They're not even considered vampires by most vampires.

Also the Samedi was cool, but so small as to again it making no sense that they'd participate in some kind of reunion.

we are told several times that they are the biggest bloodline in terms of numbers with only the city gangrel being able to contest that

It depends, fren. If you want anything even remotely good, you use V20 as a base and then take whatever you want from V2 and VR, especially the fluff, it's mostly good and all of it is compatible. If V20 feels overwhelming (its a massive tome that collects most previous major content), do the same but start with VR.

If you enjoy eating shit and want dogshit rules in a dogshit setting, with books full of dogshit art, play V5. Its really up to you.

nta, Requiem 2e's largely regarded as an upgrade, mechanics wise anyway. Gave the template a much-needed facelift, the disciplines are probably the best they've ever been. It's not that hard to port over stuff from 1e books, I do it all the time.

Even if you really hate the 2e core rule changes like the new exp system and Conditions/Tilts, I'd say it'd be worth porting the 2e template and basic disciplines back. Any discipline that uses a condition can be quick fixed by taking what the condition does and adding it to the description of the power.

>we are told several times that they are the biggest bloodline in terms of numbers with only the city gangrel being able to contest that
Name two such sources, because my impression was always that they were a small Carribbean bloodline of disparate loners and little to no structure at all, hinting at their status as the only "real" Cappadocians that survived, not counting Giovanni.
>>
>>98434971
I guess it was just my first ever “edition war” feeling of having lost something good. I do not doubt that the rules were tighter. I DID run Awakening 2.0 and had fun, but I wasnt emotionally invested in it as I had not played it before, but enjoyed the books. But even then the Awakening 2.0 Seers of the Throne book was horrible or the left hand path one(except the cover art) It just felt so stitched together and also injected some “issues” the writers had. Pangloss being a Peterson cut-out etc.
Maybe I was to central european or you g to detect “issues” in basic nWoD. After all White Wolf has been doing this for ages in oWoD, but nWoD felt “cleaner” in that regard. I just wanted to play my games, have fun and not think about this stuff before I had to return to uni classes and be confronted with people pushing their agendas all day on campus.
>>
>>98434980
nta but i remember there being a statement about nearly half the gangrel in the sabbat being city gangrel which unless the gangrel population in the sabbat was tiny would make them huge for a bloodline

>>
>>98434888
>I've been gone for a few days. Anyone willing to spoonfeed me?
Some discipline powers now being clan traits in V6 makes it essentially impossible to be a jack of all traits like the protagonist of BL2 is. Also Oblivion and Necromancy being separate again majorly screws over Night Road (if playing as a clan with it) and Shadows of New York, since it being shadows and necromancy kinda plays part in scenes.
>>
>>98434868
That was something else. You see, the fae were divided into two classes, the Nobles and the Commoners. The Nobles basically being made up of one Kith, the Sidhe. When the Dark Ages happened, the Banality it introduced led to all the Trods, roads connecting the world to Arcadia, to start closing up, an event known as the Sundering. This in turn led to most of the Nobles panicking and abandoning the Commoners to save themselves. The Nobles fucked off to Arcadia as the gateways closed behind them, the Commoners left on Earth to, in their minds, perish. The Commoners struggled at first, but eventually were able to learn how to survive in the new Banal world. They even managed to form an egalitarian society of sorts. This lasted all the way up until the 70s. The moon landing sparked the imagination of countless Dreamers, the surge of Glamour bringing with it the return Sidhe. The Sidhe were expelled from Arcadia. They took one look at what the Commoners built, and said, “Thanks for keep the seat warm, but we’ll take it from here”. This pissed off a lot of Commoners, who learned to live without the Nobles bossing them around. This eventually led to the first Concordian War.

Noble vs. Commoners is another average conflict for a CtD chronicle.

ranking the population of the sabbat is hard to do because their civil wars are devastating like the last one killed 4/5 of their population and we are told before that they been the largest sect in terms of population and what do you count as anarchs? do miscontents in camarilla cities that call themselves anarchs really count as the same thing as those in the anarch free states?

i found the source it's the revised gangrel clan book which also says that city gangrels have numbers that in 1860 there new york once had 3 dozen city gangrel in it
>Sabbat Gangrel hit New York City in large numbers around the time of the American Civil War. By 1860, my sources indicate, as many as three dozen Sabbat Gangrel made their havens in the city (think about that for a minute). Curiously, many Sabbat Gangrel had left the New York Philadelphia area in the preceding decade, ostensibly to brawl with the Camarilla in the Wild West.
so these guys are not uncommon
>>
>>98435017
Nah, I get you. I do think the over-emphasis on the Strix, for example, is a weak point. The art was absolutely better in 1e, I don't think anyone would fight that. I also think 2e suffered from OPP's attention being divided between it and 20th, as well as the early Paradox custodianship at a certain point.

I broadly regard 2E/CofD as two steps forward, one step back. Most rules I think were positive changes, a few were negative ones. Most splats (that I play anyway) were improvements, some were downgrades. In any case it's your table, if you wanna run 1e be my guest. I'm just explaining why Requiem 2e specifically gets called out, the template and the disciplines are really solid.

>>
>>98435049
No, the Tremere are bullied as a meme. Most still recognize them as vampires because regardless of opinion, they are a major Clan now, and are for all intents and purposes indistinguishable from other kindred.

The animosity towards the Nagaraja share a similar origin - its a "manufactured" bloodline, although the specifics are vague - but they are also primarily of a foreign cilture, extremely small in size and to most practically unknown, and they are sufficiently different from other vampires that kindred that run into a Nagaraja may not even recognize them as vampire.

No, it's a joke that because Paradox killed Werewolf with W5 they effectively killed off all werewolf tribes and Pentex, therefore it was a friendly fire because Oxymoron (Paradox) used Black Dog Entertainment (White Wolf) to alter the consensus and kill off werewolves. Pentex is probably going to take a huge backseat since they're a woof antagonist first and foremost, but they might appear for Mage or Changeling as a technocracy aspect

>that civil war was the one after which Galbraith took power. Wasn’t it?
yeah Galbraith took over after the second civil war (1863-1933) which was kinda about the sabbat inqusition overreaching and being used as a political tool too much while the 3rd one in 1957 was about 3 things at once:Spiritual reforms, lasombra, tzimisce and panders vs the antitribu and the sabbat having over-embraced during The great depression and not having enough space in the sect for all these young vampires. And was far shorter but also far more violent than the previous two

Deviant (which was actually good btw) was part of Chronicles, which was technically a separate but similar gameline. That they then killed to retool classic World of Darkness into an abomination by ripping out pieces of Chronicles and stuffing them at random into World's reanimated corpse for still obscure reasons. People fucking hated V5 but allegedly it sold a lot of copies, so now they're stabbing V5 to shove parts of Daggerheart and other popular trash games into it like they did to VtM, thus ensuring that nobody likes the game in an effort to appeal to the widest possible audience.

Oh, and the branding. After Paradox got hold of White Wolf, they changed the name to Onyx Path, and not too long ago they fired everyone and closed Onyx Path, shuffled the assets over to a new team called White Wolf to pretend they're independent and a return to form, and the actual White Wolf employees went off to reform Onyx Path as an independent. Since Onyx Path doesn't have the rights to World or Chronicles, they've listed them as complete/dead/other games on their website and moved on to other things. Including Curseborne, which is totally not World of Darkness, but response to it has been tepid.
>>

>>98435268
>“The Third Sabbat Civil war: How the Swors of Caine lost the US” by Mel Kavian.
the fun thing is that the tzimisce and lasombra been the agitators of the war. they knew the panders been coming and that the antitribu and sabbat moderates would not accept them and that a lot of these same cainites been unhappy with the Lasombra–Tzimisce hegemony (remember galbraith was also assumed to be a lasombra) so they stroked these flames because they wanted to put their rivals down a peg or two by making them lose to caitiffs of all things

and while they got that... things went vastly out of control in terms of scope
>>
>>98435250
From my point if view the business oriented people that cared about the game line left after nWoD faltered. Seems they were run hardcore fans who were more interested people play like they want (badwrongfun) and suits. Paradox being in there and also trying to sand the edge for their own reasons didnt probably help either.
In regards to dedicated people pushing their personal version Mage 20 Technocracy book is a good example or the new Scion publications that feature TERFs as an “enemy cult” because they exclude men (thus wombyn). It is just very confusing to me and I might be wrong.
I’d just prefer good game design and writing than personal crusade of writing staff that seems to focus a bit much on capturing a pulpit to preach ( or who impressionable enough to believe they have to adress the “current thing”).

>The Patriarch, in mastering Luna, ends hamstrung. He shall wish death upon his flesh, but no mercy shall he be given, for none he hath gave.

So I'm figuring this translates out to Big D (Patriarch) will wipe out, or at least seriously defeat the werewolf pack (no mercy given), but the victory will be pyrrhic to the point of him wishing to die, possibly with him being severely crippled and left like that. Alternatively, wishing death upon his flesh could mean wanting to kill his own child for unknown reasons, but that makes less sense with the "no mercy shall he be given".

i think you missunderstood the lasombra and tzimisce are the ones who back the panders in the sabbat because it pisses off the antitribu that on paper they are considered equal to caitiff

which means the lasombra and tzimisce can use the panders as canon fooder the panders know that they have no other "friends"

Just saying that playing spirit police and having turf wars (of religion) seems less extreme than tribes that actively kill each other, other changers and get depressed about NOT KILLING ENOUGH (I know Harano is more complex, but this is the funnier interpretation). Unsure what to think about the HtP one, biggest gripe it that it was to short. Also to many fat fetish characters, its just visible in the art-style. Also I hope Benedicte gets good representation.
I believe they are too ambitious with art and animation. TTS has shown that voice acting and writing is enough. At least it is to me. The monetary expenditure and/or workhours might be a bit much for what you get out of it. But I respect professional ambition.

I'm question why the crusaders went from a clearly beefy group in the audiologs to skinny crackheads and lard buckets. Especially as a MILITARY ORGANIZATION! I'm actually half-surprised they were allowed to use their True Faith powers given how HtP team serms to be slowly turning them into larger parodies of themselves each episode that comes.

Also, Why the fuck did matilda go from being fluent and well-spoken to a barely coherent lobotomite? Did they forget her previous characterization?

>>
>>98435803
A single .308 silver bullet will run you like 150 bucks today, they're expensive but not insanely scarce.

Point being they put on a tour de force in how NOT to hunt werewolves. Spray and pray with machine guns firing normal bullets. These guys are supposed to be Gladius Dei, they're already the Society of Leopold's elite (a Lance is 3 men, by the way, not a dozen). Even for honk honk clown world SoL, sacrificing a dozen hunters just to bait the enemy out is a moronic strategy.

There were so many idiot ball moments in that fight it really took me out of it, and they were on anti-delerium pentex drugs so that can't be used as an excuse. Remold, the guy who goes on "werebear safari" doesn't have a single silver bullet? If he had one when he shot Stig, it'd have likely killed the werewolf, that was a point-blank headshot. Or how nobody attacked Stig when he was being bound by the faith chains. If Grimal bum rushed him with the silver paddle while he was restrained, she could've taken his head off.

The plot armor was on full display too, the mooks get cut in half by claws and axes, but Remold gets comically thrown into a tree? They need to work on their comedic timing, there's a right and a wrong time to tell a joke.
>>
Is there a reason they are making the Leopoldites completely useless?
>>
>>98435443
my bones hurt just watching this
>>
>>98435850
Well, this is England. Though yeah, it does seem strangely incompetent as far as a Garou hunt would go consider Reymold hunting Werebears is pretty much the same hunt but more difficult. As for the mooks getting murdered like mooks, that's just storytelling.

>>
>>98435786
I find it curious that he's a Silent Strider who's been in England for what I presume to be Matilda's entire employment. I know they can stay in place for a *certain* amount of time, but surely that's pushing it right? Though this is a W5 Strider, they're only marginally Set obsessed
>>
>>98435853
They've glazed werewolves so much they need someone to make them look cool. I also wouldn't be surprised if one of the writers is projecting their bad experiences in Sunday school on to them.

>>98435894
>Well, this is England.
The Leopoldites were literally shown to have a tank in the beginning. Every man had an assault rifle. I don't think that really justifies skimping on silver. Hunting rifles and silver bullets will do the job better than torching off normal bullets in the hundreds.

There's also far better ways to establish the threat of your antagonist by having them kill smoothbrained cannon fodder. In fact, if they manage to frustrate a more competent group of minions, it makes them seem more impressive. Instead, our heroes just seem inept rather than our enemy appearing formidable.
>>
I hate that so many newfag wod players are going to imagine Stig, a quintessential Get, when they hear "Silent Strider".
>>
>>98435853
>>98435918
The nerfing of the Leopoldites is doubly stupid when you remember True Faith passively stops werewolves from spending rage.
If this is W5 rules, stig literally shouldn't be able to use any gifts or shapeshifting.
If this isn't W5, stig shouldn't have been using extra actions.

I liked that they got at least one really netal scene in. The imagery if christ has me thinking of Ba’ashkai influence or sth in that line. Super sick. But I do not know how I feel about the idea of tarnishable true faith, but in the other hand we had established lore for some time that faith in anything can be true faith. Which I find sort of lame but understandable. I eant crusaders to do some sickass smiting in the name of justice and just hope the person that following the hell/purgatory (even though Benedict XVI said it wasnt a thing ex cathedra) logic will ascend to heaven is not doing so on some power of friendship and “just be good people ok!?!” Logic.
But this is a tricky subject, admittedly.

Anon, our IP was already dead long before they made the youtube puppetshow. They started AFTER W5 anon.
>>
>>98435931
To be entirely fair, I don't expect them to be following mechanics that closely. They also had the spirit icon of Jesus have a wyrm tendril coming out from behind the cross, so I think the idea is they might have their TF nerfed by the wyrm juice in their ass.

I still think the greater problem is the absolute smoothbrain tactics, or lack thereof on display. Kitten was bayonetting Stig for a fortnight while he was bound, but silver-paddle Grimal didn't have time to run up and split his head while he was helpless? And that's if I accept the GLADIUS DEI that know they're hunting Werewolves not having any silver bullets to just light him up with. The whole fight was all style, no substance.

Though the character work with specifically the Blacklaws was really solid. It doesn't save the rest of the episode, since this big fight was the main focus.
>>
>>98435954
That only exemplifies the point
Maybe don't shart out your bullshit slop that affirms and reinforces the noncanon corpfiction (whether under contractual obligation or not) if you want to see anything get better ever
If you accept the paradox shit in any way, you should specifically kill yourself today, no one will mourn you.
>>
>>98435962
As I had written before here, I believe its due to the whole “you can believe in anything :^)” rule. Or maybe the usage of pentex provided drugs messing with things. I get you though, I hope Benedicte kicks ass with faith. After all it is meant to protect from posession as well. The christ image was rather metal, but the negative treatment was sadly to be expected after spending so much time to make clear that “Gladius Dei bad!” during the last audio log. I miss the Hunter the Vigil Gladius Dei. Might try to get another game in.

HTP episode thoughts.

seeing the mere implication of w5 lore being incorporated (King Faggot posters in the caern, Gaia being implied to be believed to be dead, Matilda being a moon cultist) makes me roll rage checks irl. Not because I dislike these elements actually, so there's hope they use the good ones. But boy am I cautious.

Aside from that, eh. Bit short but I guess we got spoilt. Good episode. Not! Shuck aurafarmed pretty hard. Jesus mogging the wolf for a moment was cool, but like some other anon said they really didn't take advantage of that. I hope Grimal stays where she belongs and not some plot turn (they kept glazing her stamina)..

Liked the spirit showing up. Werewolves generally likable but inconsistent characterization. Matilda is actually BETTER and more like I expect, but very unlike her portrayals earlier. Big D is suddenly not a retarded manchild that can't fathom any orders? Curious.

I still believe they will make friends with the woofs in the end.

It's not so bad, but life used to be better.
I used to have a routine, y'know? Dolores would be around. She'd wanna go out on a Saturday. She'd wanna take the paper and go read it in the park. And now that Dolores isn't around, I could still do that but it's just... Sometimes it's hard to convince myself to go outside, so I decide to stay in. And it's not *bad*.
I have one of those recorders that records the channels on the t.v. so I can watch all my favorite shows and never have to worry about missing any of them, which is wonderful.
But, I can't lie and say I don't miss Dolores every once in a while. But it's mostly just the little things. Like when you're eating dinner and you look across the table and you expect your wife to be there, but then you remember that she's dead. That stuff. That kind of stuff is tough.
I remember she would always put the mustard on my sandwiches for me. And the other day, I made a sandwich and I forgot to put the mustard on and I took a bite into it and I was like, "Why isn't there any mustard on it?". And then I remembered: Dolores is dead. And I cried for hours, just hours, mourning my wife again. It was like the old wound just opened right up again. And I was crying for hours probably, just hours, y'know? Which was fine. It was fine. That's just part of life, y'know? To just cry for hours because your soulmate is gone and she's never coming back. And y'know, that doesn't depress me. It doesn't depress me at all, y'know?

“The next real literary "rebels" in this country might well emerge as some weird bunch of anti-rebels, born oglers who dare somehow to back away from ironic watching, who have the childish gall actually to endorse and instantiate single-entendre principles. Who treat of plain old untrendy human troubles and emotions in U.S. life with reverence and conviction. Who eschew self-consciousness and hip fatigue. These anti-rebels would be outdated, of course, before they even started. Dead on the page. Too sincere. Clearly repressed. Backward, quaint, naive, anachronistic. Maybe that'll be the point. Maybe that's why they'll be the next real rebels. Real rebels, as far as I can see, risk disapproval. The old postmodern insurgents risked the gasp and squeal: shock, disgust, outrage, censorship, accusations of socialism, anarchism, nihilism. Today's risks are different. The new rebels might be artists willing to risk the yawn, the rolled eyes, the cool smile, the nudged ribs, the parody of gifted ironists, the "Oh how banal". To risk accusations of sentimentality, melodrama. Of overcredulity. Of softness. Of willingness to be suckered by a world of lurkers and starers who fear gaze and ridicule above imprisonment without law. Who knows”

How is Changeling street level? You can use Nature + Scene and Naming to turn clouds into nukes and watch them fall out of the sky. You can turn every leaf in a tree into Wyvers with Metamorphosis, with Wayfare you can send someone to the moon, with Unleashings you can level cities and do crazy things like "make the world forget a day happened". Not to mention all the crazy stuff you can do with the Dreaming. Changelings are super strong with C20 rules.

>>

I used to think that, but then I realized something; good luck surviving long enough to earn the exp to get Naming 5 and the appropriate Realms without succumbing to Banality. Let alone, the Glamour to power the Cantrip. If a Changeling managed to actually get that level, he’s earned the right to turn a pencil into a WMD.

Give me the Gangrussy
>>
>>98436190
You can start with Naming 5 literally right out of character creation. Not to mention that C20 is a Glamour rich setting, and getting rid of banality points has never been easier, you just erase them 1:1 for every point of Glamour you would get.
Do you guys even understand how gaining banality actually works in C20? Being shown a tax file or touching a technocrat wouldn't do shit, you need a decently long exposure to these things to even gain a point.
>>
>>98436190
Funny enough, C20 accidentally made kinain overpowered. The gave them full immunity to all the negatives of banality, meaning a kinain Autumn lord still has full access to their Arts and Realms.

Targeting a banality 9 autumn person increases the difficulty by a grand total of 1, another 1 point if the area is banal as well, not that big of a deal. With the Time realm you can have a cantrip hanging and ready to be used (no rolls necessary), and if you don't have the Time realm you can pay a grand total of 1 (one) point of Glamour and use it as if you had it.
>>
>>98436222
Autumn people can become more than just minor annoyances than changeling and start developing powers of banality parallel to changeling cantrips.
It's also an innuendo for "sperg lord" since "autumn people" is the changeling term for autist.

dc is target's banality + 4
an average technocratic mage would have a banality score of around 8-10

The more I think about it, the more the entire "coalition" plot makes no sense, and it's annoying the hell out of me.

So you've got this alliance between various hunter groups, that isn't actually the second inquisition from V5 but we'll name drop it anyway. A key member of this alliance is attacked by werewolves. A senior member of said group is killed, and several more injured, all in an attempt to get their hands on data that was collected by and effects all members of the Coalition. When attacked, the Arcanum, whose forte is not combat, immediately calls the rest of them.

However, none of the other members of the coalition are willing to do anything about it unless an unrelated group of independent hunters agree to absurd arrangements. Despite the fact that the target of the werewolf's attack was, as far as the coalition is concerned, a coalition member, they're not actually going to do anything about it. So why does it even exist? Why be part of an alliance that doesn't actually come to the defense of its members? Only the Leopoldites could be roped in, and that was due to a treaty that has existed for about a century.

What the hell have the writers been smoking?
>>
It's funny how they nerfed a lot of splats hard in wod20, but gave so much to changelings in C20 that the writers practically reached out of the book to give changeling players handjobs(all 12 of them)
>>
>>98436282
the coalition is a subsect of the second inqusition from the books

i think you guys are reading into this too much if you look back to the 40k series pretty much everyone but kitten was also either incompetent or a asshole or both

although i would argue that this tone works better in 40k than in wod it's clear that the tone is still what hunter the parenting is going for
>>
>>98436398
It was a bit bizarre, Occam is a Sorcerer and he did actually nothing while the wolf was paralyzed and Kitten was ineffectually and lazily stabbing him
>>
>>98436398
I disagree. Granted, I didn't really follow TTS past the warp arc, but HtP seemed to be taking its drama end far more seriously. Pair that with the fact it's selling itself as Hunter (an increasingly dubious claim), a game all about being the wily underdog, and you can understand why the flagrant incompetence is jarring.

Like, way back during the breakfast discussion D stressed the importance of silver weapons. Professional hunters pulling up to a werewolf hunt without silver is sort of beyond the pale.

The "Attrition of Age" Mechanic:
Forget "Generation" or "Blood Potency." Now, there is Decay. The older a supernatural creature is, the more their body physically fails. A 500-year-old vampire isn’t a god-like patriarch; they are a frail, crumbling husk with severe arthritis and a memory like a sieve. Every century of age adds a permanent penalty to all Physical Attributes.

>>
>>98436548
Can be countered with vitae, but has diminished returns. Eventually you have to diablerize someone. Maybe going into a torpor for a century or two can give you a chance to remove one penalty
>>
>6e
>neonate, normal, elder
I kind of don't love that mechanic. What if I want to make a very old vampire, but not be all powerful? Or have a party of mixed age vampires? Also, what about a really long campaign? Like, start at industrial revolution and go through modern day. Taking the occasional torpor nap for stability. You can't go from neonate to eldar through gameplay, it's just a character creation choice. It feels pretty disconnected and I think it'd be better to just not use those names. Something like "here the points you distribute normally, feel free to add more or less to adjust the difficulty to your liking!"

I can't believe you fucking made me reread c20.

First of all, in order to even use Naming 5, a fae would need to do a extended roll to figure out a target's true name with target's Willpower * 3 successes, with the extended roll requiring something belonging to the target or an intimate piece of information about it.

Now this is where DM fiat first comes in, because avatars are technically pseudo-separate entities from the target, you might actually need the avatar's true name for to "run off with [the target's] Avatar". Now mage is still notoriously obtuse on what avatars actually are, and if we're going by the fact that they might be shattered pure ones, you might have to roll 3 * God's willpower to even figure out one's true name. We're being generous and just using 3 * the avatar's rating. Secondly, few technocrats even know that an "avatar" even exists, and since avatars are on another level of immateriality (being unseen even if its host made up of ephemera) and do jack shit, getting something belonging to it in the real world is nearly impossible. If the DM is being generous, he would allow the fae to sain by standing next to the technocrat in his lab for the entire extended casting (good luck).
>>
>>98432245
>White Wolf. I beg of you.
Why are you begging, dude? You're not actually going to actively play this shit, are you? They can't force you.
>>
>>98436776
Now even if that works, and we're (generously) assuming that the avatar falls under the "actor realm" even though its not a "worldy being" nor under any inanimae realms or the fae is using Unleashing, the base difficulty is 8 + 1 high banality + 1 technocrat's lab. Since we're going by c20 rules, you DON'T get to expend glamour to reduce the dc further and have to rely on bunks (how difficult each tier of bunk is, is a matter of DM fiat). In order to use Naming 5, you would require 5 successes (at minimum, we're also being generous because 5 only allows rearranging, and an avatar rating of 0 is not equivalent to gilgul) to target the avatar, and another 5 to make the effect permanent (its also DM fiat). This is an extended roll, requiring 1 glamour + 1 willpower each roll. Let's assume the fae has an average willpower of 5 (also adding the fact that changeling has the highest exp cost out of any splat to increase willpower). You're looking at a chance of 56% to even succeed the casting, assuming that you want to risk botching.

We're also being obtuse here, "To invoke the Autumn, the player must spend a Willpower point. Any effect with a chimerical source that would normally affect her does not do so for one action". If we're allowing the changeling to metagame by knowing what avatars even are, using the same parity, c20 still sets the difficulty by making it incredibly easy for even a tradition mage to completely counter a changeling by emulating a similar effect.

tl;dr fairies aren't real. btw you just acrued banality from looking at this math.
>>
>>98432343
But what if I'm not radically committed?
What if being committed is central to my character, but Golconda is, as has always been implied before, outnof reach?
What if I'm radically committed but just want that to be a facet of my character, the character that I want to play throughout this game?
Why are you trying to defend this?
