On a scale of 1-10 how badly are they going to fuck up Dark Sun? I guess say why you gave the number too if you want

3. None of the shit that grognards care about existing or not in the setting matters to me. Dark Sun's society doesn't function without slavery. If they remove it, I'm putting it back in.
>>
>>98440952
>TQ
7. With the exception of Phandelver, all the other adventure modules have been absolute shit. With Dark Sun, WoTC would have to sanitize the setting since the odds are good that the "modern audience" would absolutely hate and despise it.
>>
>>98440952
Around an 8. Them slapping an 18+ label on it is at least a sign that they aren't going to completely sanitize it, but thus far they're advertising that via gore and violent dismemberment.
Decent odds that it's just shock value as a marketing ploy while missing the point of the setting entirely.
>>
>>98440952
Was doing some googling about 5.5e classes and stumbled upon the 5point5.fandom wiki, which has the Brawler fighter subclass. I'm not seeing it mentioned elsewhere and it seems like a pretty cool subclass. Is this some homebrew shit that made it onto that wiki?

I now have the urge to make an improvised weapon character who uses a talking doll and a pole of collapsing, either dual wielding each as light weapons (with pole collapsed) or jamming the doll onto the extended pole as an improvised halbard. The doll will insult enemies as I hit them with it, and I could persuade my DM that since these are magic items, they should react to resistances in the same way as magical weapons.
>>
>>98441021
Yes, it’s homebrew. D&D wikis pretty much always include homebrew of questionable quality, which is why you should stick to dedicated tool websites like 5etools and the Hypertext SRD.
>>
>>98441021
It was a subclass in UA before being shelved. https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/dungeons-dragons-discussion/unearthed-arcana/184463-ua7-survey-results

I'm guessing they kept it for historic purposes.

Finally reaching 12th level for my Sorcerer, and the DM is giving me an option of what I would like out of a legendary item (which we will all be getting, but acquiring them for each party member he wants it to be "special").

I play a Sorcerer, and I'm wondering whether to ask for an ioun stone of mastery (makes me better at literally everything I do, including spell save DCs plus I already have a bloodwell vial for an additional +1, and it's a cool floating magic rock while my character was a jeweler before he became an adventurer), OR a ring of djinni summoning (would eat my concentration when I use it, but it's a summoned genie, and the character is from not!Arabia, usually wears a genie robe for clothes too). My concentration slot is usually taken up by Bless (Magic Initiate), Hasting the party Barbarian or Fighter, or Sickening Radiance/Spellfire Storm for damaging groups, so a djinni summon would be competing for that.

Is one going to be significantly better than the other?

Based on the trailer, I think that they think Dark Sun is all about brutality or perhaps that's their way of glossing over the problematic elements.
My DM is not going to change to 5.5E so my game is safe. Or unsafe may be the better word.
>>
Sorcerer is easily the strongest full caster in lvl 3 to 5
It has everything: a great spell arsenal (Web, Fireball, Blur, Sleep), Metamagic, which is extremely powerful, and proficiency in Constitution saving throws.
Circle of Stars Druid comes in second place, but it is still very strong because it can maintain concentration no matter what, on top of having the Druid's spell arsenal.
>>
>>98440952
6, i think they’re gonna pussy out on the environmentalism focus that’s at the centre of the setting

So DnDBeyond is intentionally designed to be cumbersome and a pain in the ass to use, right? Looking for items is especially painful.

My 5e Greyhawk game is coming up on it's first year anniversary. However it takes place in 576CY. (Well I call it 5e Greyhawk, but it's just Ghosts of Saltmarsh with some other adventures sprinkled in.)

Have they announced what year the Drelzna module will take place in the Oerth calendar? I imagine S4 Tsojcanth would've at least taken place by now.

Releasing a setting all about harsh survival in a game that has goodberry is an interesting choice, let's leave it at that
Also they literally went out of their way to remove even the mention of slavery from monster statblocks and you want me to believe they have the balls to do Dark Sun justice?

>>
>>98442335
I've not played Dark Sun myself so I don't know if this fits in with the established lore, but I recently finished the Malazan Book of the Fallen series. There was a very serious logistical issue in a later book where an army had to cross a vast desert and due to the circumstances surrounding the desert, the army's mages could only draw upon their magic to conjure water at greater than normal cost to themselves, and then at one point deep enough into the desert they could not do it at all. I wonder if there could be a mechanical representation of something like this in Dark Sun.
>>
I'm hitting a mental block. What kind of Steel Defender would a Kobold Battle Smith have? A tiny dragon? Cobbled together trash constructs? Taxidermy?
>>
>>98442972
Try making your character more than just his race. Don't think what a kobold would have, think what your specific kobold would make based on his personality and personal experiences.
>>
>>98442975
That makes sense, I guess I was just being retarded and focusing too much on the race.
>>
>>98440968
>Dark Sun's society doesn't function without slavery. If they remove it, I'm putting it back in.
Dark Sun's primary form of villainy is slavery.

If there's no slavers, who are the bad guys?

>>
Let's say I want to play as an intelligent item or other "possessive force". Is there literally anything in the rules that might support something like this? I know that there are rules for intelligent items fucking you up and taking your body, but what about a PC who is a sentient item possessing the body of an unlucky peasant to go about finishing unfinished business or just otherwise cheating death?
>>
>>98443041
the way i've seen it done before is to be a Hexblade bladelock, you are the patron, and then you're using the race stats of whatever schmuck you possessed.

that said i'm also partial to using kalashtar to represent possessed people, given they literally are, so maybe consider changing his race if he was a bog standard human to begin with.

the guy I played with was using warforged, because he was possessing a high quality war puppet like the ones from naruto.
>>
>>98443077
Those are neat ways of doing things, might have to float something like those ideas past my DM if I decide to commit to the idea. I imagine things could get a little awkward around reviving the host body if they weren't exactly a willing participant.

In a perfect world, I think I would really enjoy a necromancer-type character who is actually a sentient spellbook that assumes direct control over one undead minion instead of a zombie horde. Almost like a constant magic jar or something.

The evil chud racist bigots! The usual diarrhea libshits use. They used that to excuse the misery in 40K; we all suffer, but we will not tolerate bigotry!
>>
>>98443181
Yes, but no, but yes. Their description as "something that should be dead but isn't" sure makes it sound like they're undead, but in both VRGR and RHW they have the humanoid type instead. Meaning they're categorically different from regular zombies and whatnot. But then any DM should be willing to approve a change of type from humanoid to undead for reborn PCs.
>>
>>98443200
BUT THAT'S STILL LITERALLY THE SAME THING.

THEY'RE RACIST AND THEY'RE SLAVERS. THEY'RE OKAY WITH SLAVING BECAUSE THEY'RE RACIST. THEY'RE RACIST BECAUSE IT'S A JUSTIFICATION FOR THE SLAVING.
>>
>>98443037
>If there's no slavers, who are the bad guys?
The Genocidal Halfling
>>
>>98442294
You can pretty easily get away with Sorcerer or Wizard. You don't get armor anyway, and if you're willing to create a single arm, then that has you covered for somatic/material components.

If you want to avoid even that, then I think you'd be leaning heavily onto Aberrant Mind Sorcerer, with Magic Initiate as a necessary take at level 1 to ensure that you have a 1st level spell without Somatic/Material components. Once you get Metamagic, Subtle Spell can probably help carry you until you hit 6th and get the Aberrant Mind feature that lets you bypass components more readily.

Looking over the list of spells that only have Verbal components, the most oddball option would be Paladin. Assuming your DM allows you to make Unarmed Strikes as a Plasmoid, then with the 2024 rules you can pick up Unarmed Fighting and just start smiting people by slamming into them.
The Genie Paladin can make up for the lack of AC, though it would require spreading yourself a bit thin between Strength, Dex, and Charisma.
I suppose Monk also becomes an option at that point.
>>
>>98443037
>If there's no slavers, who are the bad guys?
DRUMPF
>>
>>98443041
Yes, but it requires level 11 and brings some vulnerabilities. Magic Jar allows you to transfer your soul to an object, and then use it to posses other people. There's no fixed duration on the possession, but if you don't keep your original body close, you die if the possessed body gets killed (not much of an issue, people die when they're killed anyway), but more importantly, Dispel Magic may one-shot you.
>>

Its just 'okay' now after the errata nerfed its scaling. Since it takes an Action to set up putting many into the position of not being able to take advantage of it until their next turn (if they keep up the concentration till then) the damage you gain for that lost turn is not bad but its not great either.

I've become interested in the idea of combining elements with each other to create unique effects and one way I was thinking how this could be done is in the myriad ways Dragons exist.

So, in creating a Draco-Lich template for Dragons would you just have negative energy be part of their original breath weapon or would you create a unique breath based on what the dragon used to be?

I need to put together a rather large city map (a few miles across) but I don't know the best way to go about it. Any tips? I was considering breaking up the districts into their own somewhat generic plots and then stitching them together so I could rely on a list of specific businesses and locations per tile instead of the map itself, but I'm having a hard time making this work well from a player-facing perspective.
>>
>>98445488

Feels like the sort of trickery a Green dragon would pull off. They love to scheme, have an excess of timber that they could use, and seem like the sort who would enjoy misleading people into thinking a more dangerous dragon was living there.
White dragons typically aren't that clever and would sooner just eat any corpses they kill instead of wasting time with cooking them.

I'm pretty sure the DM rolled to determine the type of dragon randomly. It was just a fucking around game where we started out fighting rats in a tavern basement.

I'm definitely considering expanding the menagerie of dinos they can encounter. I feel like Troodon would be a blast in this game if I portray them the way they appeared in the TellTale Jurassic Park game.

>>
>>98446023
In 5.0 it was written so that you the player could make your own background or use one of the sample ones on the following pages.
In 5.5 it is written so that you are limited to the backgrounds in the PHB unless your DM says otherwise. The quote you have is for the DM, telling them that they can create a background to help a player. It never says that a player can choose a custom background without the DM's permission, and this was of course on purpose.

What do I do for these clockwork horrors? I put a bunch of them in my dungeon in pairs and trios for an 8th level party. The challenge ratings are FINE as is, I don't want to change them. My problem is the hit points / resistances. 2025 edition basically dropped all magic resistances, which I don't love, but reducing reliance on them isn't necessarily bad. That said it's annoying to track either way. These creatures make sense to require magic. But my entire party has magic weapons, so fighting them is gonna be kind of a joke. Do they look any good as is right now? I gave them pretty good AC because they are well-made constructs with full metal armor. That helps a bit. But let's be real, people have pretty nuts to-hit compared to AC in 5e anyway, a 17+ AC isn't gonna slow someone down THAT much.

Basically I just want to know if these monsters look fine as is, especially in a group where the main damage dealer has a magic weapon and the other PCs have non-physical damage they're dealing. One of their biggest damage vectors is conjure beasts, which (I think?) counts as magical BPS. Even if not, 60 hit points won't mean much against even a level 4 frenzy barbarian. Let alone a level 8 one. Even if I used 4 or 5 of them, I feel like they might die rather quickly. And that's for what should be a fairly difficult encounter.
>>
File: clockwork_horrors2.png (551 KB, 795x773)
551 KB PNG
I also looked at the Clockwork Oaken Bolter and its HP from Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes (2014 edition D&D) to Mordenkainen's Monsters of the Multiverse (pseudo-2025 edition D&D) and its hit points went from 58 to 117. Basically doubled to compensate for the removal of nonmagical BPS. Should I do that? I don't want to double the hit dice of these things. And it might get to be overkill to just double their hit points. But I could run it back through the CR calculator.

Would DOUBLING their hit points (or close to it) be the best solution here? And removing the BPS resistance? I feel like the adamantine one should just be immune to nonmagical nonadamantine BPS. But that might force it to have lower HP and that would be weird.

I also thought about the resistance being to non-adamantine weapons. But 5e golems don't have that. And I hate 5e 2024's golems, because straight-up BPS resistance is retarded IMHO. But whatever, it is what it is.

I just want to compromise
>making these monsters good for my party whom only one of them attacks with a nonmagical weapon
>making these monsters good in general, because they're part of a giant 3e conversion I've been doing and I want it to be "professional tier"
>>
>>98446037
>build their nests out of living hosts rendered catatonic by their venom, the body heat of their prey keeping the eggs warm
God damn, that's metal as fuck. The last thing I would expect from my campy dinosaur franchise is discount xenomorph body horror. I didn't realize anything in the Jurassic Park IP went that fucking hard.
>>
Wording fix (maybe):

>>98446528
Sonic Weakness. Whenever the clockwork horror takes thunder damage, it must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or lose its immunity to blindness and be blinded. These two effects fade at the end of its next turn.

Maybe there should be a type with a ranged weapon attack?
>>
>>98446650
Even the T-rex from the original book is described as some horrific mutant with a prehensile snake tongue that can't stand direct exposure to the sun and soporific venomous saliva that drugs one of the protagonists as he's about to be crushed, on top of the dilophosaurus scene being less "haha fat guy gets eaten in a cartoony way" and more him being disemboweled and feeling it's teeth pierce his skull as he's lifted off the ground and smashed back into it since the dilo is the size of a horse
They deliberately nerfed the vibe to be more family friendly with each movie until we got whatever the fuck the franchise is today

If I were to create some undead and use True Polymorph to turn the undead into little trinkets I can carry around, would they still be under my control if they were to be dispelled of the polymorph? In other words, if creatures do not remember their time spent as an object, do spells affecting them also pause their duration (such as Animate/Create Undead's control factor).

Other than divine/DM intervention, is there anything that would prevent some high level wizard from minting currency out of a bunch of nasty creatures using true polymorph, introducing those coins into a region's economy, and then at some point in the future using a Wish spell to dispel all true polymorphs they've cast to immediately throw a region into chaos?

I have some trouble getting used to the controls for this game.
TLDR you left click to talk, move and attack. You right click to change your action mode from move to attack to talk.
So if you want to walk to attack someone you use the move mode to walk up to the target, then you right click to change to attack mode and attack.
I bet before key controls got formalized in the late 90s a bunch of PC games had their own weird mappings that would make no sense today.

Maybe a 3 (as in, not very fucked up at all). People who spend too much time on 4chan/Reddit act as though WotC won't sell a "based" product the very second an algorithm or consultant tells them they can make some money off of doing so.

It'll have slavery, Muls, and all the other sacred cows. The most major problem it will encounter is just 5e itself. Characters were much easier to kill in 2e, whereas the power level in 5e is very high pretty much from the jump.

I wouldn't call the TellTale game good, but the Troodons are definitely a highlight. It's hard to come up with a new compelling enemy dinosaur without just going with "different T-Rex", "different Raptor", or "genetic monster". The Troodons being little poisonous swarmers that can fit in places Raptors can't definitely puts you between a rock and a hard place.

Highly recommend the original book, it leans way harder into Paul Verhoeven-style horror and violence.

>>
>>98449952
Most of the changes were on the player side. Might want to read up on the updated classes.
>>
>>98449952
I mean the smart move would just be have your friends make 2014 characters and run what you know, but whatever.
Uh as a shortlist of things
>Stealth is changed and kinda a mess, worth looking into
>They changed / grouped a lot of actions you can take differently. You should know what a Search / Magic / Study / Influence / Utilize etc. action does
>Weapon Masteries are new and you should at least familiarize yourself with them

And then as >>98450759 said, a lot of player stuff. they changed how backgrounds and feats work for example and switched a lot of class features up.
And then there’s a lot of small changes - many spells for example are going to be a little bit different. If you have spellcaster enemies in your one-shot it’s worth taking a look and comparing to see if there’s any small wording changes that you might otherwise miss. Players can hopefully read their own

Unfortunately, these wikis are the only resource I can find for those paywalled D&D Beyond Drops WotC makes since 5etools and Hypertext don't have them. It doesn't have DM-facing stuff like the Para-Elementals or other paywalled monsters, but they at least copy over the Magic Items, new Feats & Fighting Styles, and Spells.

That's a convulted way to kill yourself. Flesh to Stone in itself works, as that just give you the petrified condition (note that Reduce Person will still expire normally when its duration runs out). However...Transmute Rock only work on non-magical rock, either way, so you can't use it on a petrified creature. But even if you could...
>If the creature is physically broken while petrified, it suffers from similar deformities if it reverts to its original state.
Congratulations, you've just turned your body into a sludge. If you've turned the mud back to stone, you'd have weirdly shaped lump of rock. If you end the petrification, you'd get a lump of meat. And getting back from that is beyond what Resurrection can do, so you're looking at True Resurrection or Wish to fix that fuckup.
And that's assuming that the GM is generous enough to agree that a bottle of mud is still your body and thus valid for the Magic Jar.

Are monks the most not roleplayed class?
They're supposed to be monks. But I've never seen a player actually lean on that. They're always just the roadmap to being an MMA fighter or an anime character.

Like making a wizard that hates books.

The two monks I've played with in the decade of 5e were both roleplayed well. I've found warlocks to be the least roleplayed. Only once has the patron ever come up, and that was when I was playing one in a spelljammer game with randos on roll20.

I played a LE cleric of asmodeus who was happy to tag along with most party comps because she viewed killing sinners as sending more souls to her god, and helping evil people(or giving people the opportunity to do evil) as getting more and more powerful souls to send to her god eventually, and if innocents died, well they get to go to the heavens.

Let me be visibly pretty evil, very much devoted to my evil god, but also not kicking puppies and being hella obtrusive in good parties.

shame the campaign for that character fell apart after two sessions because the DM didn't know what they were doing, railroaded the hell out of us, dropped a nuke, then said 'um actually you can't conjure food and water without a special new reagent' specifically so they could force us to explore a mysteriously intact inn, that turned out to be a mimic. The false hydra can be okay, but it needs both a competent DM and competent players. The DM to run it and make it feel mysterious. And players who can distinguish between player knowledge and in game knowledge. At this point the false hydra is pretty stale unfortunately, it's been meme'd to death.

I hope the next campaign is much better. Hopefully he learned from the experience and will do better next time.

yes, as in literally.
>campaign has us going to go find a stolen necklace
>find it, slay the bandits who stole it
>as we gather our strength for the return home, a giant fuckoff magical explosion renders everything ash for thousands of miles
>except us, because of the strange protection around the necklace, which turns to ash after the spell fades
>with nothing to forage for, or access to clean water, we head towards a town weeks away, which we hope is outside the blast radius
>was told in advance to be ready for actual survival necessities and extra gold to do so
>I invested almost all my gold into a travelling cart and containers for water and food that I could conjure for the party
>only to be told "Yeah, uh...actually you need a reagent to cast that spell and you don't have it." once the nuke dropped
>this was (by the DM's own admission) an attempt to force us to explore the mysteriously intact tavern

literally just finding a totally intact tavern AFTER A NUKE AND DAYS OF TRAVEL would have been motive enough to explore it. Conjured food is explicitly flavorless.
>>
>>98463058
Sounds pretty dumb to me. I'm not surprised the game died.

>Conjured food is explicitly flavorless.
Prestidigitation can make it taste like whatever you want. But I'm pretty sure most parties would go investigate, if I was the DM and they decided not to I'd just shrug and continue. I have had entire dungeons skipped before, comes with the territory.
>>
>>98463146
also this was only their second time trying to DM and they wanted to try all this cool stuff from the internet.

I can't even say my first time behind the screen was any better. It was a fucking mess. Everyone's first attempts are bad.
>>
>>98463149
It's a skill that takes time to learn. I'm glad my group has been patient with me. They said I've improved with each new campaign. It helps to start with premade campaigns and dungeons. To get a feel for the game before making your own campaign. Right now I'm running my own campaign but with many locations with premade dungeons e.g. Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth and Forge of Fury.
>>
>>98463160
I started with Warhammer 40:000 - Dark Heresy, and my first campaign was an 'investigation' where the players kept getting given the lead and their choices made no difference, to the point one of the fights(which I thought would be cool to have) was them getting babysat by a trio of deathwatch marines while they did basically nothing. After that campaign failed, I ran the premade to...middling success, and I've since started running original campaigns in the world of darkness and I have an age of sigmar: Soulbound campaign that I've been cooking for a while, while I wanted for one of my players to get free to actually be able to play.

At this point, I'm relatively confident in running games - to the point that terrible DM has said their favourite campaign they ever played was my Hunter: The Vigil game...but I'm not the best DM in my group and I'm always learning more from watching live plays.

Right now though, I'm having a lot of fun playing in curse of strahd as basically the party mom since half the party(on the tabletop) has the tism, are joke characters, or are Roll players.

>>98463176
My first game I ran was 3.0 when I was 13 years old. I hand drew an adventure map and you went in through a secret tunnel in their "bathroom" which was just a cave filled with screaming fungus so you were meant to burn it first. They fought a bunch of gnolls and some other stuff I can't remember. The final boss was some sort of centipede with magic powers who was way too powerful. I think we played the first two fights then got distracted. Looking back it was a very poorly designed dungeon with no hooks, no roleplaying, and nothing after you killed the centipede.

My first real campaign that was a success was using Iron Heroes. It was a low very low magic game with a party of an archer and a weapon master. I don't remember it that well but it was a fight between Law and Chaos. The party chose to be the neutral group in the situation trying to keep the peace. Still a favorite system of mine even if I doubt I'll ever run it again.

I honestly just want to know if someone, anyone, got a look at it at Gencon, and knows what those feats for extra spells are.

The Transmutation Adept feat is +1 to a mental stat, plus always having Jump, Spider Climb, Slow, Polymorph, and Animate Objects prepped. And a speed bonus after casting them.

There's almost certainly feats for other schools as well.

I think I got bored too, some games are just for older people.

8\10. It's too early for it and the current wotc art paradigm is particularly ill-suited for it. It's a sign of changing times, possibly even for the better, but I don't give them much of a chance of pulling it off.

The fact they've concentrated on just the bloodiness to underline the setting's "maturity" is also worrying.

Would you guys play with an AI DM? I've been thinking about the future for WOTC. I have to assume they'll eventually plug in ChatGPT to DM for people too scared, power gamey or perverted to find a table.

Personally, idk where I draw the line at AI and gaming. It feels like a natural conclusion for open world games that truly feel immersive.
>>
>>98464786
I think they talked about developing proprietary AI that might simulate various iconic characters in campaigns. So when players encounter Vecna in a campaign, the DM might tag in Vecna.GPT that's programmed with a synthetic voice and personality parameters, and it responds to players to reach a predetermined conclusion that continues the adventure.

I personally wouldn't like that, but it's something that WotC is looking into.
>>
>>98464786
AI can't into rule systems. It's great for dumb shitpost scenarios like "What if Vecna teleported to Super Mario Sunshine?" but actual structure just leads to AI-isms and hallucinations
>>
>>98464786
Sure, when we have actual AI, not LLM. So about never at the current rate.
>>
>>98464849
ROFL. Imagining a DM doing that is just funny to me. Might as well put on a bad voice changer.

>>98464959
>actual structure just leads to AI-isms and hallucinations
That's interesting. I assumed rules would make AI more compatible as it has guardrails to its hallucinations. Like you can say you want to do wild shit in DnD but it still just translates into needing to roll X check and meet Y DC depending on the difficulty of the action.

>>98465055
When we reach that point, fuck a text prompt. Just plug me into the matrix.
>>
After 10 years of TTRPGs I only know two fucking guys who can actually commit to a game schedule. Coincidentally they've also been GMs before.
>>
I tried to watch a roleplaying game on youtube, but they were constantly giggling like they were on drugs. I had to turn it off. Is this what roleplaying games are?
>>
I realized from my simulations that the best place to start a fight as a melee cleric is not to be in front of everyone, but rather to stay right behind the characters who usually take the front line.
More specifically, you want to be at least 5 feet away from the closest position an enemy can reach with their movement + reach.
That way, I can cast Spirit Guardians, move away, and then move back in, forcing all enemies within the area to make the save.
>>
>>98465513
>move away, and then move back in
repeat until you spent all your movement
>>
>>98464959
>AI can't into rule systems. It's great for dumb shitpost scenarios like "What if Vecna teleported to Super Mario Sunshine?" but actual structure just leads to AI-isms and hallucinations
This is only true if you're just pulling up something like ChatGPT and telling it "hey play DND with me, retard". Getting an LLM to behave and follow rules does take more up-front effort, but that's exactly what shit like agents exist for, so you can have one that's in charge of pretending to be Vecna, another that calls it a faggot every time it tries to cast a spell it doesn't know, one that tracks initiative order, etc.

Would I want to play with an AI? No, but it's absolutely something that could and will be built.

I want to allow it because I trust my bro not to take us into his magical realm, but I can't figure out if she should be a monk as-written or a weird berserker or what. If anyone has advice I'd love it. For the moment I'm considering asking him to play Barbarian while I figure out what to do.

We're not here for the waifu factor, this is meant to be what Zariel was trying to do to Karlach, but in production mode.

Question about Dark Sun.
Are most Sorcerer Kings supposed to be dragons? I know Nibenay is a dragon who glamors himself as human when appearing in public. But then Kalak was constantly trying to sacrifice slaves to ascend to dragonhood despite being in the same generation.

my first time DMing
>they instantly uncorked and got drunk off the 300 year old elven wine they found
>they smoked the herbs from the healers kit
>the rogue halfling tried to steal sacred relics like 6 times
>the vengeance oath dwarf tried to solo the endboss demon
>the wizard lead the charge into every room
>the light cleric blased the ghosts with then undead which lead to a 5 round chase until they finally cornered and killed it
>they completely ignored my favourite puzzle and just fuckin walked past it

>>
>>98469450
>>they completely ignored my favourite puzzle and just fuckin walked past it
The fact that you allowed this and didn’t try to come up with a way to force them to engage with it is a sign that you’re a more suitable DM than half the ones out there.
>>
>>98469128
It can be very satisfying when well done, but a large part of that is running the love interest as an actual character, with goals and conflicts beyond the PC romancing her/him. You also want to make sure the player has the maturity and context to understand that relationships involve arguments and conflict and that friction between them and their love interest isn’t automatically you trying to fuck them over or a sign that they’ve somehow “lost”.

Also, do make sure that the love interest also has rapport and interactions with the rest of the party. Even if it’s just something silly like “I like showing my pressed flower collection to the illiterate barbarian my husband travels with, and doing so seems to bring some brief peace to his constantly raging heart, so that’s nice”. That sort of thing can open up some really fun roleplay for the whole table—to continue the silly example, the barbarian might notice a rare flower on their travels and nudge the husband to pluck and press it to add to her collection, since he knows that she’s missing one of those.
