Faturnine Learneans, let's call them Apopheans
Come with fist and distingrator, can swap gun for some ultra-top secret mega volkite rapebeam, fist for axe or hammer, or both for conversion beamers.
Line 1
>>
>>98448827
>You are in charge of making a saturnine terminator unit for your Legion, what is it.
Well, either you go into making fat contekar (and have a fist + saturnine grade flamer/volkite combo) or you go with some sort of twin claws/headsmans axe terminators.

Personally I think the axe boys could be most interesting since those would actually be something NL dont currently have. S+lots, D3, I-2. Maybe give them some sort of sonic/flamer template weapon as a secondary assault thing, probably with a status attached.

And in fitting with NL terminators, built in deep strike.

Blackshield saturnines: comes at a points drop but you have to buy all the weapons and the thermal shield but you can equip them with up to three heavy weapons or terminator melee weapons if you don't buy the shield. They're more likely to explode too.
>>
>>98449005
DESU, im now picturing a NL Saturnine armed with a pair of lightening claws that are some shit like

I/+2A/+1S/AP3/D2 Breaching 5+ Shred 4+

That shit would be cool as fuck and of course they would be Talon Power claws too.

TQ: I would make Naufragia for Dark angels
They would get the powerfist with out the plasma shredder, their primary weapon would be either the plasma bombard or they could upgrade to a phosphex weapon of some sort.

It would either just be the Phosphex Canister launcher, like the leviathen has, or it would be a Heavy Flamer template, AP3 Poison 3+ Panic 3, breaching 5+ 2D or something.

Then the Squad SGT would have a big fuck sword that was basically the same profile as a TGS but instead got Reaping Blows(3)
>>
>>98449052
I think naufragia should get essentially the big interemptor flamers. Template plasma. D2.
>>
>>98449064
Yeah but Naufragia specifically used Phosphex weapons Thats why i was thinking just letting them have Phosphex canister launcher as their range weapon, and note that they only get one of them per model, no doubling up on them.
>>
>>98449052
>pair of lightening claws
Why not just straight Escaton power claws? It's on our legion list but can be taken by like one model that's not a character.
>>
>>98449105
Because i did not know they had a special power claw for their legion but that sound equally dope.

do these kind of boards with varied elevation work for titanicus/ligma?
or is the constrained movement detrimental to the game?
>>
>>98448827
>>TQ
>You are in charge of making a saturnine terminator unit for your Legion, what is it.
Going off the bit of lore about AL use of saturnine:
>Must start the game in deep strike reserves
>Count as stationary for their occulix targeting auspex on the turn they arrive
>Maybe gain +1 to hit with shooting attacks too, not sure if this would be too overpowered
>>
>>98449118
>Because i did not know they had a special power claw for their legion
Because only ONE model has it normally (the sgt of the contekar squad).

NL have some baffling design choices.

>>98449105
>Why not just straight Escaton power claws?
Because saturnines have their own weapons, giving one a "normal terminator weapon" would be weird.

A saturnine grade escaton claw would be interesting though.
>>
What are some old school forge worldisms you notice when reading the books?
>>
>>98449143
>A saturnine grade escaton claw would be interesting though.
Thats why i think it would be dope to have a power claw that is like breaching 5+ with shred 4+ base D2, make them fucking monsters in melee.
>>
>>98448827
given nl got the shitty knockoff saturnine suits i think it would be funny if they leaned more into an overload/self-destruction forward loadout and moved a little faster or something
completely unrelated question. i got a box of skulls(not battlefield trophies) for my own night lords, is there a 'too far' in using any of the non-tau xenos/daemon skulls as accoutrements in regards to historical accuracy?
>>
>>98449196
The escaton is already Ap2 base. Its functionally a thunder hammer with Shred.

Last edition it was a power fist with murderous blow and shred. But it wasnt a thunder hammer so you would never use it.
>>
>>98449216
Damn that sounds good now. I mean i just think Saturnines with big ass claws would be scary as hell.
>>
>>98449215
>if they leaned more into an overload/self-destruction forward loadout
They fiddle with the D guns (read: take all the limiters and safeguards off) to create Disintegration flayers. Overload 2 S7 Ap2 D2 flamers. Also the Invuln is only 5++ but they have the gorgon thing of "if they make any invuln saves all units within X have to take a status check or be stunned from a flashbang" because some genius made the power field unstable.

>>98449223
The issue is that saturnine fists are already extreme in what they do. Theyre AP2 D3. Its basically impossible to tweak that damage output much. Maybe give them S+3/S+4? Shred is funny in very specific instances (phraetus/custodes terminators) but thats about it.

Well ratehr then going raw damage and str, thats why i was saying go with + attacks and at init swings.

S+1 AM+2 D2 Shred 4+ breaching 5+ get them all up in them guts just swinging power claws at Init.

Maybe give them a rule like, and im just winging this.
Gorefiends: If this unit kills a model in combat on your turn they gain a stack of gorefiend, for each stack of gore fiend they have they gain an bonus +1 to their fear rule.

So the idea would be they could get up to +4 to their fear check if they kill a model in their combat turn each turn.

You don't want to restrict movement because of how important it is. Alternating levels like that are difficult because in AT your movement is restricted to your base size so the channels would need to be either impractically large of limited to models that don't benefit from it. I would say it's not valuable for Titanicus but it might be cool for LIgma.

Nah, just line men. I dont build them based on any "rules", either, other than the GOLDEN rule (cool).

On a side not, FUCK the heavy weapons upgrade box set. Those plasma guns were a fucking nightmare to get to even SORT OF line up. Is it just because of the old forge world bodies? The heavy flamer arms were also pretty offset, but thankfully the little wrist guards that come with some of the tac squads helped hide the bad seams I guess....

Option 3: heresy
>>
>>98449589
Oh, im sure if I REALLY went to town on it like I used to do back in the day, like cutting the arms into three or four sections, adding pins and wiring through the entire limb and filling the little gaps with a MINUSCULE amount of green stuff (which is a fucking NIGHTMARE to do with the regular old shit, its so sticky, and when you try to use water with is, it gets too slippery....anyone know some better putties or other tricks to use with it???), I could get them into ANY position, but ive just been too shaky these days to go that far into it, especially for regular line troops. Still, I fucking hate modern GW for what theyve done to those of us who love modelling and converting.....fucking kikes dont realize how much money they are LOSING from fuckers like me who would do shit like buy whole squad boxes and shit for two or three bits...and them doing this to the hobby has even killed the bits aftermarket. Used to be able to find individul bits all over the net, now theres barely anyone selling them, and the few who do want fucking kings sums for the pieces. Either that or theyre based in the UK, so shipping fees kills the entire option....
>>
>>98449305
>Gorefiends: If this unit kills a model in combat on your turn they gain a stack of gorefiend, for each stack of gore fiend they have they gain an bonus +1 to their fear rule.
I think stacking too far is potentially too strong. Maybe something like "if they destroy a unit in close combat or make it fall back, they gain the fear(2) special rule for the remainder of the game"

Or alternatively make it an aftermath option. Instead of pursuing (can they even?) they can make all enemy models within X" make a test vs stun or panic or whatever, as they go around blending the survivors and captives in gruesome fashion.
>>
>>98449815
Like i said it was just a random spit ball idea out there no real merit or backing behind it, but something to make a NL specific Saturnine unit feel unique Kinda like the WB one. Which so far those are the only version of saturnine that i have actually been im pressed with.
>>
>>98449600
Depends on what the backstory of /yourdudes/ is. Well equipped and organised force, closely following their primarch? Mono-mark units, one or two different types of power armour across the whole army.
Semi-isolated force that already went through hell before the heresy started? Mix everything, custom bits, battle damage, the whole works.
>>
>>98449600
Depends entirely on your legion, the specific stuff /yourdudes/ are up to, and the timeframe they are set in. So basically, you can bullshit any excuse to have any combination (or lack thereof) of armor marks in your army.

>>
>>98448827
Sallies don't really need them, they're already insanely durable, never better than 3+ to Wound with armour that default cuts the Strength of most of the high-power weapons; and you can give your Command Fatties an additional Damage reduction on those weapons

like they're the Legion that reinvented Saturnine so maybe they of all Legions might have special weapons - forge-crafted whatever I guess - but do they need it? you can just paint them up special and call it a day

likewise IH, they're already effectively T7 for Shooting damage on top, what else do they need? flat FNP2+ like our lord and saviour macca intended? some kind of bullshit Reanimation Protocols Reaction where they pass an Int Check to regain Wounds and bring back fallen members? how far can fuckery go

I think for most Legions it's probably true that they don't benefit thematically from a special Legion unit of Satties getting rules, it's just DLC for the sake of it

I'm trying but He's not making it easy

>>98450091

Sure, but you could still give them something.

If you want to be REALLY boring? Just straight up flamer ones. Each one has a forge crafted "inferno caster", something like a big version of what the infantry have. Can either fire a predator flamer shot or be a multi-melta.

Oh, and since were getting really dumb? Instead of the normal thermal diffraction fields they have "inferno shields", which mean that in combat at the end of the phase any unit in contact with them takes (d6+number of models with the field) s4 ap- hits with the aflame(1) special rule. Oh and they have drakescale, why not.

I have to say making a breakdown of titan heraldry is fun especially writing about the OG 80s titan banner iconography and banner types, Ty to the anon who suggested I do that. It's a more realistic and manageable project to make in publishing software compared with my previous expensive homebrew delusions

It's really making me want to get a 3D printer to print out classic epic minis especially the titans.

You can actually find all the old epic minis you might want if you look hard enough? I don't want drop £200-300 on a printer only to find there isn't a good selection of old epic STLs.

Realistically? Uhm give it a dual-Illiastus pattern cannon arm like a Baal pred and a claw. I have no idea about stats but I do know BA ain’t got much for weapon-platform infantry so would it be better than their standard plas/disintegrate combo? Probably not, but it would look cool and if I had the skills and both aBaal Predator and Saturnine lying around I would try it out

GW shit is monumentally overpriced. Before it used to be justifiable because back in the 2000s and evne early 2010s, GW legit had the best models because they were the most durable, detailed, and easy to build outta any other option out there, everyone else either was using low detail plastics, high durbility metals but sucked to build, or fine detail but fragile resin.

However, this does not hold today, modern printing and modern casting has become on par or even surpassed GWs quality.

They are no longer the best in the industry but they keep demanding prices like they are.

Yeah, wartable is pretty much the BEST out of all of the "public" recasters ive ordered from. I got accepted to a private recaster sub-reddit (I know, I have NEVER used that shit hole for anything, EVER, but I am still on the lookout for both a lucius warhound AND a thunderhawk transporter, so I figured I have to broaden my horizons SOMEHOW, and maybe they would at least be able to point me in the right direction...), so once I get some more disposable income stacked I was planning on trying some private recasters so I could see if they are any better like some people on here have claimed.

I swear, if wartable just stocked a lucius warhound, id buy three of them right off the bat, even if they were like $500 each. Why is THAT ONE IN PARTICULAR so hard to find? Did they only sell a few of them back in the day, or what?

Anyone else have problems with putting cataphractii together, new or old? I always end up with gaps between the shoulder pads and the body. Also I think the new cataphractii kit might be a downgrade, old kit was way easier to put together. Side note, posting here has become such a hassle, my IP seems to be range banned every other week, anyone else having issues with that?

Everybody agreed the new cataphractii are a downgrade after just looking at it.
With the old cataphractii you can put some glue on the inner rim of the shoulderpads, then glue them to the side of the torso. The assembly guide that comes with them only leads people astray.

I think they were still wearing word bearers iconography if I remember right. Yup, in fact it's even worse that that, a few years ago we got some insider stuff on one of the dead forums from an ex-studio guy: they get that 40% profit on the first product run, and that margin would be much higher if not for the fact they plan things out to account for all their R&D and fixed production costs within that first production run. So once that first run of boxes sells through - which these days most of them do within the preorder window - every box they sell after that is almost pure gravy. We can't know the exact figures obviously, but if the combined cost of plastic pellets, packaging, warehousing, and distribution was to exceed ~20% of the sticker price I'd be amazed, and those per-box production costs are all that's left for them to pay on stuff beyond the initial run.

Then consider something like TOW where not only did the models pay off their fixed costs decades ago, they did so before 20+ years of substantially above inflation price rises. No wonder that sticks around when it's basically just printing money for them.

GW are legitimately one of the greediest countries on the planet.

The reddit is pointless if it's the same one I'm still lurking in from ye olden tymes, because they will absolutely fucking nuke you from orbit if you actually try to get anyone to give you private recaster info, and I've never been invited to any of them despite posting multiple reviews of recasted WTG stuff.

Honestly given how printing has developed I mostly just bought recasts of niche resin SG figs in recent times, and GW are phasing those out anyway. What's a shame is that the 3d scanning groups on trannygram are pushing exactly the same Super Sekrit Special Snowflake Klubhouse mentality as the recasters despite it making no fucking sense because unlike a recaster there's no business to be crippled, if GW nuke a channel you just make a new one and everything's reupped within a week or two, but they act like they're fucking Jason Bourne evading the CIA or some shit, it's pathetic(and they get nuked by GW in the end anyway).

>The rattle of the first snake rises into the air. The man’s eyes open a fraction wider. The serpent sits on the cracked earth. Its head is raised, its black eyes unblinking. As the man looks at it, a tongue flicks out to taste the air. Its scales are blue, the colour of an ocean under the sun. It flicks its tail and again the dry rattle rises. The man meets its gaze. From behind the serpent the head of another rises. The scales of this one are the green of summer forests, and the light draws a gleam of copper from a bone crest. It hisses. The fangs inside its pink mouth are black, needle splinters of night. Another hiss and the man has to open His eyes and turn to see the third and fourth shapes gliding over the ground behind Him. There will be two more, He knows, lying still, out of sight, coiled in the dust like a promise that is in truth a threat.

REVENUE MINUS COST, DIVIDED BY REVENUE, TIMES 100

>>

>Cost 20 bucks to make
>Sells it for 28 bucks

uhhhhh anon, me thinks thou protest to much.

You realize that if something cost 20 bucks to make, to have a profit margin of 40% you would need to sell it for $33.33, not 28 dollars.

Sell price = Cost to make / (1-profit margin)
In this case it would be 20/(1-.4) = 20/.6 = 33.33

So i mean, if you are gonna shit on someone you probably should do your math first.

From what I can tell the Word Bearers were the first to use openly daemonic units on the battlefield. Would a Defiler be out of place as one of their many monstrosities?
>>
>>98458512
in the blslop there's laid out to be pretty analogous stuff having to be cleansed out of the palace but iirc it was an iron warriors construct or somesuch depicted
i'd say that a defiler is a fair ways too far gone for real appropriateness in hh shit though, that's a demon engine of full blown chaos space marines, not really the proto-csms of even the late late heresy and early scouring
>>
>>98458512
Yes, because defiler lore specifically mentions how they were created on the orders of Abbadon to fight in his black crusades. So way past the HH.
>>
>>98458526
The age of the thing swings wildly. I've read it being made for the 13th Black Crusade, it first being sighted for the first time in 357.M41 at Urthwart, it being sighted for the first time in 781.M31 at Urthwart, it existence being alluded in ancient texts, etc.
>>
>>98458586
A lot of the "earlier sightings" are just in-universe vague posting. Something modern GW writers love doing as a lazy way to make shit seem more interesting, even when that isn't needed.
>>
>>98458512
There's a Defiler during the Battle of Calth, Garro fights it,
>>
>>98458643
>modern GW
Its existence was vague back in WD282 as well, when the thing was first introduced. According to same WD, first official Imperial record of it was in 357.M41 at Urthwart. In the 2013 Index Chaotica: Defilers this was changed to 781.M31 during the First Black Crusade at the same location of Urthwart.

Quite frankly, what is and isn't post-Heresy is entirely up to GW marketing. They make stuff that's HH era, but won't put it in the game while taking stuff millennia after the Heresy and just plonk it there without even rewriting the fluff.
>>
>>98458512
>>98458669
"In James Swallow's novel, Garro: Knight of Grey, which adapts the audio drama Garro: Oath of Moment, the prototype daemon engine is depicted as a terrifying, crab-like fusion of industrial machinery and flesh-bound monstrosity. This unholy machine, featuring six piston-driven legs and a rotating turret, represents a very early, pre-heresy example of a Defiler-class war engine, embodying raw Warp-infused malevolence."

I remain confident in my notion that GW puts out stuff like this to rationalize making the models available for HH down the line.

May I ask something that is pretty unclear to me right now. What are you guys insist it's cannon? Black books? Why not Black library novels since it came out before the BB. Or Bligh did not use/have disregarded the Black library novels when writing the Black books? There were 17 books already release from BL about HH when the first BB came out. This is not bait or whatever, just my genuine interest in the matter since I am not sure what is the consensus here.

>>
>>98459020
The problem with canon is that HH as a setting has esisted since RT and so parts of it really show their age along the fact that with so many different people worked on them with completely opposite ideas (look at Emps as an example) means that it's full of contradictory things. BL thinking that it was going to be a trilogy and then having to expand it to what it currently is due to being a buisiness also meant that it had to do a lot of expanding which resulted in some rather retarded things like bringing Loken back from the dead, the perpetuals, the cabal, etc... Bligh, coming in later, set himself the task that he would try to fill in gaps, explain with some other, broader perspective how certain contradictory things happened and also try to make sense of various retcons while expanding a lot and most importantly do it from a somewhat historical side. The black books are meant to be 30k osprey-esque books which along with the brass/resin/plastic kits would allow you to play something that's as close as possible to the fluff, unbalance and all. With the death of Alan, FW had to go off his notes before running out of enough content for a complete black book which resulted in book 9 and with his death book 8 had some rather awful fluff while book 9 had "kid with anti[insert thing] field at playground" tier fluff. 2.0 was meant from the start to check the waters to see if there was enough interest in a core-game-fied 30k with all the good and bad this implies which in turn resulted to some rather shit fluff near its end like the Mars book which was a part of the setting that in 1.0 had a lot of people waiting for and rather baffling retcons like cameleonine going from a chemical treatment to a type of cloth. 3.0's approach to fluff is pivoting back to 1.0 and has some cool parts but it's still not up there with things like Mor sending a moon into a planet. [1/2]
>>
>>98459221
[2/2]
So it's a bit of everything, mostly the black books but also a bit of everything else. What sours me is that in almost a decade and a half of 30k as a game when someone brings up BL in most cases it's to justify playing 30k with their 40k army despite not really fitting the FW fluff and being lazy and boring which is a shame because there are some very interesting inspirations for armies in BL.

think like a fully automatic shotgun but scaled up to the same sort of overall destructive capacity as a bolter, at least in the case of these new bits, i think some of the older ones are more like enormous pump action things if i read them correctly
i don't think there's necessarily anything very niche to them. maybe not as mainline as bolters but dissonant from legions at large? not necessarily. these are both genuinely horrifying weapons that only an astartes can take fullest advantage of.

The only aquilas used by the traitors were defaced to signal opposition to the regime.

no, that's the imperialis. the eagle symbol is demonstrably maintained by the traitor legions to some extent. the Rampager squad kit has belt aquilas on some of the bodies, and Tybalt Mar has a variant of the symbol on his armor. there's also the saturnine aquila. the latter two aren't really the traditional imperial aquila, but they're still aquilas, and demonstrate that the symbolism is not abandoned by the traitor legions.

Rampager models and others are from Isstvan III
Mar has a defaced aquila with the Eye
The Saturnine aquila is retarded nonsense that should be disregarded
An aquila without a head is not an aquila.
The aquila is 100% a loyalist icon, and the only ones among traitors were defaced or removed after they revealed their true colors.
This is heresy 101, ffs
>>
>>98464662
Im pretty sure there would be TONS of "traitors" who would still rock their aquillas/eagles just as an ironic "fuck you" to the emperor/the imperium as a whole. Not to mention its would be a great way to lull any normie into thinking

>"OH MY EMPEROR! Those space marines who are approaching us really fast right there are here to SAVE us, YAY!"

Before realizing how fucked things are about to get. I mean, legions like the Night Lords, where shit just kind of broke into roaming bands of killers pretty quickly, probably didnt concern themselves with their uniforms being very, well, "uniform"....

The untold story of the Drop Site Massacre is that it was orchestrated by Dorn in cahoots with Omegon in order to purge the Loyalist camp from potential turncoats and contrarian voices.
>>
>>98464788
That may make sense for the Alpha Legion, or mixed warbands of traitors like the ones involved in the Shadow Crusade.

But your typical 30k force in the game is usually a slice of the classic units and allegiance of a legion. It's retarded to see post Isstvan SoH with aquilas, even if GW themselves are lazy and do not give a fuck in their official model photos.

And GW doesn't give a fuck indeed. See pic related: That's 100% a WB chaplain even if it's sold as a generic centurion.
But anon, you ask, why? It not only carries a proper crozius and not a maze, the one winged aquilas facing each other in the vexilla is a design that was only previously featured only in the pre-Calth WB Rhino/LR doors kit. QED
