You may submit more than once (like we could tell anyhow) but each must be on its own post. The bids will then be compiled and voted on by Anons in the thread to determine who gets the contract. Anyone in here play Mechwarrior Dark Age back in the day?? I collected them for like a year or two (just the first set mainly) but never had a chance to play the game, how was it?I found out they had tournaments with a bizarre level of units they made you could only get at the tournaments. Where the extra units they made were like a quarter of the size of the actual set that was current at the time. I’ve never heard of anything like that before and it’s crazy because a lot of the cooler units they should have made more of were these weird tournament only pieces.Anyway I’ve been collecting them again, I have a soft spot for these thing even though a lot of them are ugly. I think the designs look worse after age of destruction or whatever in a lot of cases.
>>98452297I was someone who hated clickytech with a passion and that stupid timeline they forced. CGL did a decent job flushing it out but gods I hated Clicky tech.I am hoping some of those designs get a redesign, they have a few and have done a great job making them look decent

>>98452396Yeah I was in middle school when it came out, and had only played mechwarrior 4, and I remember even back then (I’m OP btw) being confused why there weren’t any mechs from the game that had just came out recently. I'm getting a little burned out on the "technically mobile giant gun emplacement" designs, so guess I'll go with the Chipmunk >>98436425, because even if it's not strictly IS tech, QuadVees are already nuts on base concept, let alone actively making a silly one.>Best Narrative?Jotun >>98438551 is probably going to be a shoe-in here.

>>98455821Its always interesting to compare the different meklabs around.>>98457729Considering the advanced tech involved I don't think you're going to see knockoffs since if you start trying to stockpile said parts people are going to know what you are building. >>98462389>>98462489It doesn't get much more venerable than the Hunchback, long a mainstay medium Mech produced on the Kali Yama factory world of Kalidasa for the Free Worlds League. One of the more exposed League worlds, Kalidasa has been conquered by the Blakists, the Republic of the Sphere (though they would dispute the "conquered" part), the Lyran Alliance for a short time in the 3140s, and spent over a decade governed by Alaric and his Wolf Empire as they moved on Terra. Having only just been restored to its rightful owners in 3142, Kalidasa and Kali Yama were far from ready to attempt any truly ambitious projects, but it was deemed important to the League's planetary and national spirit to have *something* fresh coming off the lines. And so, the Hunchback was a logical choice. Kali Yama packed dozens of old HBK chassis with equally ancient laser weapons, loading the chassis down with as many medium lasers as it could physically bear. Happily for all Marik quartermasters, they need only supply the new design with *one* kind of gun. No ammo, no logistics footprint, just nine green-glowing bores linked to a trigger. A little endo-steel, a little ferro-fibrous, and a few double heat sinks and the ancient Swayback could meet modern standards. Perhaps most important was the Vlar 300 powerplant riding inside the Hunchback 7P's barrel chest. As proven as an engine could be, formerly belonging to old Orion models left in the same supply dumps, and now propelling the 7P to 50% more ground speed than its 4P predecessor, making it far more mobile than one expects a Hunchback to be. The firepower was also nothing to scoff at. Plans exist to go even further beyond using TSM and more advanced powerplants in a planned 8P premium variant, but for now the 7P represents a step forward that Kali Yama can actually achieve on a realistic timetable, and they expect sales to be as brisk as its 97 kph top speed and under 5 million C-bill price tag can move product.
>>98462500>A little endo-steelA structure change is about the biggest thing you can alter in a mech design. But just about everything else Kalidasa produces is Endo, so fair enough.
>>98463422Yeah, its a significant mod for a merc unit, but this is a dedicated Battlemech factory so the overhaul shouldn't be that awful compared to building a new mech from scratch. >>98463422Theoretically they could steal at least some components and design theory from the trebuchet 7M kalidasa makes since its an endo steel 50 tonner too

While we were unable to procure meaningful numbers of the Federated Suns' Re-Engineered lasers, some intrepid trading with both the Sea Foxes of the Clan Protectorate and the distant Raven Alliance has resulted in a steady supply of Clan-grade Medium Pulse Lasers, which we married to an Irian Technologies TSEMP.Propelled by a 330-rated XL Engine, this Wolverine leaps ahead faster than its brethren, and with the increased Jump Jet capacity to match. 11.5 tons of Standard Armor make for a thick fur protecting the payload. The armaments may appear anemic at first, but please take note that the IS-made Targeting Computer guides not just a trio of excellent and far-reaching cMPLs, but also a TSEMP cannon. This 'mech is built to shut down an enemy machine and then eliminate it in one quick, precise strike. In case of the Wolves, we recommend aiming for the cockpit. Two of the lasers are also turret-mounted, providing some protection against flankers and battle armor. Since no 'mech ever acts alone and the 12M excells at anti-'mech operations, we recommend pairing it with a quick generalist like the competition's Hunchback 7P.Furthermore, the 12M carries a C3 Slave, enabling it to exploit or provide targeting data on the lance level, and an Angel ECM Suite, both to keep itself obscured until the time is right and to counter opposing ECM.Ultimately, the Wolverine 12M retains both of its hands, enhancing the command's capability of taking field salvage. Figuring that in this age of widespread pulse weapons targeting computers and precision ammo, going down the route of massive speed isn't guaranteed to increase survivability. Instead we have developed a tough little bloke always up for a proper scrap that takes advantage of compact engine and gyro technology to minimize the target profile. Armed with a chest full of lasers the Geezer presents a very difficult unit to incapacitate and as the fight progresses it can move even faster and punch even harder. Heatsinks arranged in the head to give the visual impression of a flatcap boosts the confidence of the pilot to keep fighting and think twice about ejecting. Minimal rear armor also encourages consistent aggression and zero retreat. If you want a mech for the pilot that ain't afraid to get stuck in then the Geezer is for you!

Designed as a trooper mech with one primary goal, to be given to the rawest of recruits and through weaponry choice and targeting systems be able to give the mech warrior capabilities on par with a hardened veteran. The Ostrich OSC-4D is the original variant, a slower trooper mech topping out at 64 km/h and equipped with two large VSP lasers and a targeting computer. The OSC-4M was developed for the Free Worlds League to fill the role of a medium striker mech, numerous changes having to be carried out to increase the speed so much while maintaining the battlemech's original role. First off the LTV 160 fusion engine of the OSC-4D is replaced with a Hermes 240 XL manufactured on Oriente and Calloway giving the FWLM domestic control over one of its most important components, while its Diverse Optics Type 57 large VSP laser is manufactured within the Free Worlds League as well as the two Diverse Optics Type 47V medium VSP lasers replacing the other large VSP laser. The usage of clan components is kept to a minimum with only the targeting computer and ferro-fibrous armor being clan-designed.

The targeting computer is removed but an actuator enhancement system is built into the legs and the two medium VSP lasers are replaced with a battery of three small VSP lasers capable of tearing through battlemechs or fending off infantry and battle armor effectively. Large amounts of weight are left over and invested in maximizing its ferro-fibrous armor making piloting it even more forgiving and making the Ostrich more likely to survive to make contact with the enemy.

When we looked at the humble trench bucket, we looked to the past and the future. Starting from an Endo Steel frame, we took the jump jets of the 5J, a 250-Light reactor, and then proceeded to use every cubic inch of space left over. The torso LRM rack has been replaced with the largest MML rack we could procure, the arm LRM replaced with a Streak SRM rack, and the traditional pair of medium lasers in the right arm upgraded to Clantech ER models. Light ferro-fibrous allows for full protection. How did SCAM invent such a competent design? Facing legal and financial liability from the actions of our parents corporation, SCAM was in the unfortunate position of having to actually create a good mech. Please buy it, so the hardworking, hard-partying engineers of Superior Combat Arms and munitions don't have to go live in a Heavy Hover APC down by the river.

While new 'Mech designs have surged forward, the sheer impracticality of "refitting" a 'Mech to an Endo-Steel chassis has largely left the veteran machines that survived the Succession Wars far behind in capibility. But in the aftermath of Gray Monday and the chaos that has followed, the sheer array of improvised designs to pop up in the last 20 years makes it clear to us all that no chassis is too old to be pressed into combat. To that end, we present the HER-2Sr, a refit kit for any Succession Wars-era Hermes II or III. Taking inspiration from Endo-based Hermes models, we have incorporated the XL Gyro used in several designs from the -5Sr onward, and fitted the design with Ferro-Fibrous armor, plus Double Heat Sinks. With tonnage thus provided, we have also fitted a MASC system, allowing these old frames to match the tactical maneuverability of modern Mediums, exchanged the AC/5 for a Snub-Nose PPC, upgraded the Medium Laser for an ER model, and traded the Flamer for the same Clan-grade Streak-4 pack used in the brand-new Quickdraw-9G, with CASE II protection for the ammo.In all, the result is a D-class refit kit, suitable for installation at any planet-side 'Mech workshop for less than 2.5 Million C-Bills, and affording these venerable war machines a dearly-needed new lease on life.

Never mind the red hooded robes our engineering team are wearing. Just a bold fashion statement, I'm sure.Built around an endo steel chassis and a light 300-rated engine, the Heron boasts high mobility, and ample tonnage for arms and armor, without the vulnerability of an XL engine. As its primary armament, it carries a pair of Clan-spec streak SRM-6s in a unique "rifle" style pod with integrated ammunition storage, capable of being jettisoned as needed for greater flexibility. Supporting these weapons are a pair of shoulder-mounted extended range medium lasers, and a distinctive head-turret mounting a snub-nose PPC. Though this necessarily obstructs ejection from the mech's compact cockpit, a sufficiently devoted pilot should see the obvious advantages of a mech that retains this degree of firepower as long as it remains operational. Moreover, the lethality of these weapons systems are enhanced by the inclusion of a targeting computer, allowing the Heron to land punishing volleys of firepower on its foes. If you are interested in this design, just send WORD to us, and we will put it into full production.

>>98454391were the early 2000s that bad for mechwarrior/battletech??? I got into it during the 2000 when my dad bought me MW4 from a bestbuy or something. after that he got me MW3 , and on the xbox he got me mech assault. From my perspective growing up it seemed like a healthy franchise back then with those recent releases. when you couple that with the dark age minis, the random toys (joyride studios, k'nex) and the books you could find in stores, i never had any idea the brand was in any sort of trouble. in fact when it dissapeared during the mid 2000s I never understood what the fuck happened. the clix game died around then and there was never any new games i dont think other than possibly some Nintendo DS shit my brother had.some of the sculpts are weird and ugly but enough of them are nice IMO that its okay. battle tech has a lot of ugly looking mech IMO as is. my main gripe with MWDA miniatures is too many of them are really asymmetrical with like one really weird arm for no reason (seemingly) >>98455467i was long out of it by 2005, i think the last pack i ever bought was one random falcons prey booster a shop had in like 2006 or something because the shiny box got me curious to see what had changed. how did the whole pilot mech customization thing work?i may try to see if there is some miniature group out here that plays battle tech or mechwarrior or something but idk if ill be able to find one. id like to play a few matches of this game but it being 20 years too late it will probably be hard or impossible to find anyone unless i just find someone to try the game out with my pieces.
>>98467871The storyline and the main branch of the IP struggled yes. The reason you had all those side projects is because Microsoft had some of the computer game IP, Topps who made the clicktech minis had some, the metal minis were separately owned, things like that. And because of this, not everyone had access to everything they needed to keep consistency across product lines. The post fedcom civil war era pissed off a lot of the older players (shocking i know) and so money was tight, FASA was dying/dead and there just wasnt a lot of Battletech to be found in general. There was a genuine risk that the fan base was going to become stagnant and shrink. For all Catalyst's many flaws, they've gotten product on shelves again, but they wouldn't have had that opportunity without Clicktech keeping eyes on minis who weren't already enfranchised players with racks of 3025 metal.
As an idea for the next one absolute bullshit mech. Experimental, any era, no limits on weight including super heavies. Just make something that would make the person fighting against it give you the middle finger and leave for even suggesting making them deal with it. >>98470240Funny enough I came up with something similar at first but I decided to do a LAM cause I wanted to have a dig at Herb. Its funny how if you were to build something like the LAM they would lose their shit but if you build something like pic related they find it perfectly fine. Both can gain a +5 TMM for attackers although with quirks the mech can push that even higher.
>>98469698I quite like the idea of what amounts to two AC/20s out to 23 hexes with enemies having a +10 to hit back. Also called shots are nice.
>>98470443Honestly, any form of optimized fast pulse boat is pretty deep into sweatlord territory, LAM or not. On a releated note, here's my submission for dumb mechs that cost you friends when you play them. At 450 BV for 18 damage per round behind +5-+6 TMM, the idea is to spam these in a BV limited game, and then watch your opponent swear in frustration as their mechs get nipped in the back by a swarm of very angry, very fast ultra-light bees that heavily outnumbers most reasonable force compositions. They even have enough ferro-lam armour to (barely) survive a torso hit by a CLPL or IS PPC, which is pretty impressive for a 10 ton micro-fireball.

To ease the transition from these partisan forces to modern standards, Stronghold Manufacturing offers the Pikeman. Built around components any technician will be familiar with and requiring a minimum of supplies for operation, this patrol Mech is well suited to defending our newly rebuilt borders while more advanced forces are marshaled and organized. A pair of lasers on the right arm function as the Pikeman's primary weapon, backed by a 6-pack SRM launcher on its left side and an anti-personnel pulse laser mounted on the head. Alongside these weapons is a Guardian suite to protect its lancemates and a set of myomer boosters to enable a 90 meter leap without straining the Mech's ability to sink heat. >>98468355is there any well known reason why we never got mechwarrior 5 for so long? by the time we got it our gaming industry had massively changed so it predictably sucked and after a lot of research i never bought it. same with MWO never played it but researched it heavily. i feel like if they had released MW5 around 2007 it would have still been good maybe even 2008. what happened??to me the last real mechwarrior game is MW4, i like all the games before that ive played as well. it seems like they are pumping out expansions and shit for the new games but it all feel off to me and cheap, soulless. cant explain it. I demo'd one of the recent ones for like an hour, it was mechwarrior clans or something like that, played the tutorial area. game sufferes majorly from the current year issue of there being so much shit and foilage everywhere that nothing is readable. so many modern games do this.to my knowledge FASA was doing fine and they just closed shop because the people in charge were ready to sell it or something i cant remember. what about mech assault 3? why didnt microsoft do that? i found osme good concept art for that recently from an internal pitch where they tried to get funding for the game. is mechwarrior a cursed franchise?
>>98472211The first iteration turned into MWO because online multiplayer and esports got really big when LoL and CS:GO blew up. Naturally, that didn't pan out precisely because of "PPC to the head" syndrome, and they've spent the last 15 years trying to unfuck the time to kill. It was HBSTech that really pulled the franchise back out of the shadows, and that's when they started taking another look at MW5 proper.

>>98472549>what is hbstech?HBS Battletech, a turn-based tactical Battletech game. It's worth playing, but honestly I would say do the first couple of missions for the tutorials to get the basics down and then forget about the story and just do a freeplay career.>if there is a jump in point, where should i start with new mechwarrior? i just want it to be a good game and not feel contrived or tainted in some way. just a good honest game.Pirate MW5, mod the shit out of it, delete it when the monotony overtakes the stompy-smashy-shooty endorphins. You should refuse on principle to give PGI your money. Also sign up for the Engines of Destruction playtests on Steam. Best MechWarrior game since MW2 and it's not even MechWarrior.
>>98472211>is mechwarrior cursed? Its more a heavily mismanaged franchise which pretty much sums up FASA as well. FASA selling the vidya rights to Microsoft was a dumbfuck move and people often forget Jordan Weisman went to work for Microsoft but was booted out when they figured out he was great at starting ideas but had zero long term planning capability or ability to sensibly flesh them out. Just have to look at his proposed ideas for a Battletech movie to see how clueless he was.Mechassault did not sell well despite being a flagship title so while Mechassault 3 concept art did exist it was always going to be canned. There was funny enough a MW5 in development for PC and the 360 back in the day called MW Prime but thanks to the Shadowrun game being an abortion and causing FASA Studios to be closed was never going to get released.MWO really has been massively mismanaged by Russ Bullock being a clueless idiot. He once said he wanted to emulate World of Tanks so he proceeded to take everything Wargaming did right and toss it out the window. Like it takes a special kind of retard to take a franchise with hundreds of mechs and design a system that makes it pointless to add 90% of them to a game by eliminating anything that would make them viable and thus profitable. Keep also in mind Russ Bullock was responsible for mektek having to walk away from MW4 for a while and shut down MWLL development, the latter of which he then proceeds to try and use the Cryengine for MWO and only after he licenses it he asks the question to the chief engineer at Crytek what projects he and his team have worked on then the penny drops why Crytek aren't too happy about supporting MWO. Apparently he also tried to go after Megamek back in the day but they quietly told him to fuck himself.About the only FASA IP that actually has done surprisingly well in vidya has been Crimson Skies and that has more become a cult classic. It has done insanely well on gamepass which is why its on PC now.
>>98473083theres a lot of stuff in your post i find interesting but what the fuck is the story with the mektek stuff? i remember finding the mektek pack sometime in like 2010-2010 or something and i found it really fucking cool and i cant find that shit anymore. what is the story behind how that was made in the first place and what happened to it later and that team?
>>98472640>You should refuse on principle to give PGI your money.I don't know anything about them, what's so bad?
>>98473218Basically short version is mektek kept mechwarrior alive as a franchise by reverse engineering MW4 sourcecode and adding bugfixes and improvements. Microsoft were impressed enough to give them a license to release a mektek version of Mercs for free with the potential of releasing Vengeance and Black Knight. Mektek were adding a lot of cool features to the MW4 engine btw including things like C3, MASC, stealth armor and directional jump jets. PGI comes along and don't want any rivals to MWO so quietly nudge Microsoft to drop support for them. This kills off MW4 MP4 but also killed off a MW2 remake that was in development at mektek on a home made engine. Mektek did offer their support to help in development of a MW multiplayer project albeit this was pre MWO announcement but PGI asked for mektek to pay them for the privilege. So yeah PGI basically did their level best to absolutely piss off the entire mechwarrior fan modding and development community when they first came around.
>>98467871>how did the whole pilot mech customization thing work? You had two slots on the heat dial to plug pilots and equipment into. When the Ares family Superheavies came, they got three pilot/gunner/engineer cards.Pilot cards came with three stats: attack bonus, defense bonus, movement bonus. Some pilots lacked one of those stats but excelled in another. Any pilot with +2 on defense was highly sought after, of course.Named machines and their pilots usually had a special ability when used together. It went from something as simple as getting bonus points to the pilot stats in certain situations, over modifying mechanics to cause less heat or confirming critical hits to instakill, up to effectively handing out free turns. If there's interest I might snatch a few pictures.Equipment cards added properties to weapons that didn't already have them. Pulse aka extra attacks, armor piercing, Streak, you name it.

I am having trouble making the quad turrets work in MegaMek lab. I assigned them to the left and right torso, and assigned the weapons to them, but they still give me the normal front facing firing profile. How do I fix this, I have a scheme and I want to see if it could work out
>>98476516What do you mean when you play in megamek the turrets don't rotate or something? Not sure what exactly you are getting at?
>>98477784Yes, that is what I mean. Instead of the 360 degrees of fire, I only get what a normal weapon mounted in the Torso, on a Quadmech, would have.
>>98477924Right click on a unit and click turret rotation? Keep in mind shoulder turrets on a mech are more a 240 degree field of fire as LT can't shoot over RT for example.
>>98477996Unfortunately, that does not work either. The Turret Rotation screen does allow me to select either of the Quad turrets on the Quadmech, and decide their orientation, but the firing arc remains the same afterwards regardless of which direction I choose. Looks like we gotta bug
>>98477996>>98478033Okay SO, if you have ONE quad turret then it all works fine. Having two, one on LT and the other on RT, seems to be causing problems, which sucks because having 2 gauss rifles on individual turrets is cool
>>98478045Was going to say working fine for me. The reason why its not working is because as per rules quads can only mount one quad turret so what you got there laddie is an illegal design so no wonder the game is confused.

>>98486729Scorpion Light Tank version HuginnLight Tank25tEasy to Maintain, Trailer HitchBV 416592,083 C-BillsBenson and Bjorn present their new version of the Scorpion Light Tank, going by the designation Huginn, named after the Raven from Norse Mythology. The armor was upgraded to 5 tons of Heavy Ferro Fibrous the technical data of which was sourced from the Raven Alliance. The main AC5 was kept to retain the ability to use specialty munitions and to ease logistical strain for replacement and repair. The machine guns were replaced with Clan Spec versions, one turret mounted and the other hull mounted, still maintaining the half ton of ammo but the ammo bin itself can hold 1 ton of ammo should you wish. Clan CASE protects the ammo bins of both weapons systems. The engine was replaced with an Inner Sphere spec Fuel-Cell engine to maintain speed but provide some extra tonnage for the armor while still keeping the design at 25 tons. Unlike the Quick-Cell version the Huginn has proper sealing for the crew while also making it easier to maintain and repair. The fire control systems in the turret are improved to allow for easier operation alongside the rest of the systems in the vehicle, the specific systems chosen are commonly available to even deep periphery customers thus ensuring ease of replacement parts should any systems be damaged. Overall the Huginn is an improved version of the original without a substantial increase in cost thus maintaining the original's intent of a cheap easy to use tank for military operations of all kinds. One such upgrade to note is the redesigns allowing for refits to be performed on a later date so if you wish to replace the engine, weapons or even the armor, you may do so without much difficulty. Although the project was defunded when the Republic's own Orca eventually outpaced its carrying capacity, the vehicle was late enough into development to reach the open market. Initial sales proved to be disappointing due to its price and limited utility compared to the elder Heavy model, though the SBRV soon found its purpose on Solaris VII. There it would earn the name Palanquin transporting combatants to and from its most premier arenas. These deliveries are an event themselves, Palanquins bearing champions to their destinations surrounded by thunderous applause. The Palanquin's immense bulk allows it to safely carry BattleMechs up to 195 tons, this incredible feat comes at the cost of being limited to a lethargic 10 kph when loaded to capacity. When bolstering this pace proved infeasible, a Guardian ECM and turret-mounted Laser AMS system were mounted to protect the vulnerable transport. No offensive equipment is carried due to the demanding cargo requirements.

The Beinblade is heavily armed and heavily armored able to crush any foe foolish enough to stand in its way! Its primary firepower comes from a combo of thumber and long tom class battle cannons that do not even have to directly hit an opponent to cause significant damage. Six bolt class machine guns, four of which are mounted on sponsons, shred unarmored infantry and can inflict damage to even armored opponents that stray too close. Protecting the flanks are two longlas large lasers mounted on sponson turrets that deter attackers and provide some additional mid range punch. To round off the arsenal a coaxial light autocannon provides some additional tactical flexibility. Each Beinblade is equally at home as a breakthrough vehicle or as a command unit making it an ideal tank for a command lance.

Normally you would call for a salvage VTOL but what if you didn't have access to one of those? Well Impractical Solutions Ltd has got you covered with the Bergepanzer Springendes, an ARV that can jump to any location!Four lift hoists means this thing can lift up to 100 tons of mech should it find the need to and a spacious cargo with crew compartments means that it can transport its own recovery team with the option to hitch a trailer if you need to bring more equipment. The use of a powerful fusion engine grants significant torque even in reverse which means it can pull anyone out the mud and a specially mounted searchlight helps you look for downed mechs in lowlight conditions. The armor while not much is high grade compared to our competitors giving a lot of resistance against unfortunate dents and scrapes. This particular example would be perfectly at home on a battlefield over a thousand years ago having been equipped with sponson guns over a turret that gives it a wide field of fire on the sides but poor overall offensive capability.Any true modern vehicle or even late Succession War design could easily make short work of any these abominations, however keep in mind the cheap and easy to produce nature of said designs does mean that when they do appear expect to see them in numbers.

I feel we might need to revisit the C3 Master Mech challenge at some point.
>>98491822So if I'm understanding this right, part of the new ruleset they capped C3 networks to 12 mechs? >>98486729In response to the new century, we look again to solutions to persistent problems in combat operations and security needs. With garrison forces having suffered dramatically from being called upon during the Word of Blake's rampage to fill frontline units, even third line units have been stripped out. There's no more need to run primitive gear up to the front but there's definitely a requirement to back-fill masses of material in the rear with at least reasonably capable forces. And so Smenge industries presents the logical solution:Urbanmech TWOSlotting in at an expanded 45 tons, this ancient stalwart has been beefed up with a Plasma Rifle with three tons of ammunition for extended duration operations to allow it to address a range of threats far more capably than its predecessors, and an array of lasers support it up close capably. It's mobility has been enhanced to now a 55kph capable engine but boosted with new model improved jump jets. Clad in 7.5 tons of heavy ferro fibrous armour it is very solidly protected for its size. But with affordability and ruggedness in mind, this mech maintains a fully standard set of internals, engine, even standard heat sinks (though it's not lacking for them). This budget conscious construction has kept its costs right down and makes long term maintenance a breeze. And don't worry, if we do suffer the worst yet again, we've already retro-proofed it; as there's plenty of scope to downgrade the armour and weaponry back to the old reliable standards and still maintain reasonable if reduced capability that still exceeds the original Urbie line by far. Not only does it fit into the ubiquitous light vehicle bay, it has a 6-ton infantry compartment capable of carrying many configurations of the client's foot soldiers - whether that's a full platoon of motorized infantry or a squad of 6 medium battle armor (we listen and we don't judge). With R&D beginning in the late 3060s (for, um, reasons) to take advantage of the second technological renaissance of the 3070s and 80s, the Schwarzkopf utilizes vehicular stealth armor to avoid hits as it closes to disembark its cargo. We believe that not getting hit outweighs the difficulties in maintaining the stealth coatings. When we think about the needs of the modern footsoldier, where they tend to struggle is against long ranged enemies and battle armor. Therefore, it uses a MML system backed up by TAG to guide in semi-guided munitions and Thunder deployable minefields to provide long range support support. At close range, it utilizes Inferno ammunition to make quick work of toads not fortunate enough to mount fire-resistant armor - and for them the SRMs and organic heavy weapons of its troopers should make short work of them. BuySlow also acknowledges the improvements in the firepower of the common foot soldier. It therefore uses light machine guns in ball mounts on its flanks to sweep infantry from safer distances. Yes, the mounts are not particularly accurate; however, the psychological effect has been found to reduce instances of crew's becoming stunned or shell shocked under fire. When considering powerplants, the 250 LFE reduced costs by roughly 250,000c compared to the alternative of a 200 SFE with a supercharger for dashes and improves reliability and cruising speeds.Praise be to B- Stone.

Not meant to engage enemies directly the Borei is nonetheless capable of defending itself against naval targets attacking from the fore and aft thanks to its notable array of torpedo launchers. While slow and lightly armored for its size the Borei is designed to be hard to detect incorporating stealth technology with a harjel system that helps protect against any potential hull breaches. Meant to sneak up towards a shoreline to deliver a few missiles before retreating, the Borei incorporates a powerful surface search radar system to help detect foes which has a unique side effect of also being very capable at locking onto airborne targets as well, however as the only weapon system that could be configured to engage flying vehicles is the Arrow IV launcher this is a practice best discouraged for being a significant waste of munitions on what is an artillery platform.

Although not meant to be able to function outside of a supporting role there has been a notable incident where a Devilfish took advantage of the various unique ammo types available to the iNARC launcher to perform hit and run attacks using nemesis pods on an Artemis IV equipped Capellan missile battery causing several forced friendly fire exchanges. Frustrated by the constant harassment this caused the Capellans deployed fast moving units of their own to track down this disruptive unit and thought they had succeeded in cornering it in a canyon which appeared to lead to a dead end. A Lyran engineer company were busy excavating ruins in a forest when Clan Wolf staged a raid on their world. The Wolves had landed nearby and the nearest Lyran task force were easily half a day away. Despite his force not being armed the Lyran Hauptmann decided to ride out to meet the Wolves and demand to know why they were on world. The Wolf Star Commander piloting a Mad Cat was briefly stunned by the hubris of this Lyran before he took one look at the force of unarmed engineering vehicles and rebuked that they were not worthy foes before continuing on his way. Outraged at being ignored, the Hauptmann ordered his driver forward and to charge the Star Commanders Mad Cat and ram it. Surprisingly this caught the Wolves off guard and before they knew what had happened the Mad Cat was knocked down to the floor after being slammed into at speed. Inspired by their leader the rest of the Lyran engineers quickly joined and charged at the rest of the Wolf Star. The Wolves choose to stand their ground and began firing at these charging vehicles only to realize too late their mistake as although several shots landed these vehicles proved to be shockingly resilient with even direct hits to their motive systems doing nothing to stop them. Very quickly all the Clan mechs found themselves on the ground and with facing the option of being mulched alive by a Grinder that had engaged its saws which was slowly moving towards his cockpit, the Wolf Star Commander ejected with the rest of his Star following suit to escape back to their dropship.

It's a little slow, although it matches the humble heavy tracked APC. The idea is that it's going to dash into some light woods, deploy its troopers and be really annoying as it plinks away with LRMs and TAGs targets, while stealth makes it even more annoying to deal with at long range, and if you get close to dig it out, get SRM'd and leg attacked, dummy. The Armadillo takes the approach that speed is not everything and is instead meant to function as an infantry support battlemech able to absorb significant punishment and deliver impressive long range direct fire support.Utilizing an innovative quad legged system that is currently still in the development stages, the Armadillo shows potential at being a very stable weapons platform if it were not for the actuators consistently freezing up during testing. Despite these setbacks the Armadillo has other promising features including several handgrips on the legs that allow for rather quick maintenance work but also in theory allows infantry to mount the mech and be carried into battle. While this also technically means the Armadillo is highly exposed to infantry attacks itself as the said mech is meant to work alongside infantry support of its own this is not seen as a fatal drawback. If the kinks are worked out regarding the motive system then the Armadillo shows promise at providing the Free Worlds League a formidable assault mech easily able to rival designs from any power. If not then the project will likely be shelved for hopefully some future engineer to resolve the issues and complete the design.

A few individuals consider it to have poisoned the idea of Superchargers outside of Solaris entirely until the Jihad. It is generally believed that if Yakov Industries had stuck closer to their original design they may have come out for the better, but when the Stinger STG-3R came to market, they panicked as they were originally trying to sell the project to the Capellan Confederation as the fastest True Battlemech who's speed could only be matched by the primitive Trooper TP-1R. The Stinger matching this speed and further having jump jets threw them into chaos. But instead of pivoting to "Fastest Heavy Mech", the company had the idea of ripping out a chunk of armor, one of the Medium Lasers, and several other components in order to stuff in a Supercharger to make sure it was still the fastest. This severely exposed the legs and back, and the lack of design to handle the supercharger left the legs very weak and easy to break, as well as generally being easier to destroy. Additionally, massive problems were made in the coolant systems that hindered most of the weapons and generally introduced a horrific flaw that could effectively break the whole system.Barely any units would be acquired, with the 'Mech's most lasting legacy coming from stripping out its sensors and communications systems for installation into other 'Mechs, as those were at least designed competently.

Its top-heavy design was intended to move primarily using its treads and only use bipedal movement while not under fire, requiring intimate familiarity of its gyro's idiosyncrasies from its MechWarriors to prevent it from toppling without a means of recovery. This vulnerability eventually condemned the 'Mech to garrisons across the Federated Suns, where they could be helped upright in relative safety. When the Cavalier was upgraded with what would become standard BattleMech technology, the unreliable CASE and redundant Tracks were removed to mount a higher output engine. The armor was reinforced to 14.5 tons of modern plating. The remaining free weight was allocated to an additional laser and machine gun to each respective arm, along with an upgraded LRM launcher and two heat sinks. This upgrade would prove to be the Cavalier's downfall when the Centurion supplanted its previous partner and featured many of the same Luxor-manufactured weapons, which would be cannibalized from the Cavalier as the Succession Wars raged on.

Unlike the Banshee, underrunning the PPCs' minimum range only led into the kill zone of the lasers, which brought more than octuple the Banshee's knife-fighting capability. Sixteen and a half tons of armor ensured that the Teuton got there. Additionally, its giant fists carried enough power to denude even the toughest cockpits of protection and the MechWarrior therein of their confidence.Ultimately, the Teuton was produced in limited quantities for a century before Defiance Industries established itself on Hesperus II and became an industrial and political powerhouse sweeping away any competition. Today, it is functionally extinct, with only two examples known to have survived in family museums on Tamar Pact worlds prior to the Clan Invasion.

Designed as a counter to the various new Inner Sphere assault mechs it is extremely well protected and armed with a simple yet effective trio of large lasers which can be comfortably volley fired. The end result is a seemingly unstoppable juggernaut that can easily trade blows with any mech currently existing and almost certainly guaranteed to win a battle of attrition. Despite these promising stats the Geryon does suffer from Taurian inexperience in mech manufacture and is quite a large design easily rivalling the Mackie for size. This has resulted in a rather unique attempt to use its oversized nature to its advantage by carving the cockpit into what is best described as a bull shaped skull to intimidate opponents. Consideration was also put into equipping the standard mech with PPCs but as this would have put tremendous strain on the cooling system it was quickly abandoned as an idea, although a prototype using more advanced technology copied from a new Battleaxe model which was recently captured from the Davions appeared on paper to be a formidable design. What may shelve the Geryon however is not a question if the Concordat could put this mech into production but whether they should. The main concern is whether production output could be maintained at a reasonable level with the running thoughts by the Taurian Defense Force currently being they would much rather have a large number of capable, more mobile and lighter designs over having fewer yet very powerful assaults. Indeed the recent projections of the currently in development Toro appears that at least a dozen of those lights could leave the factory floor before a single Geryon is complete.

Lightweight machines like the Firebee were well within their industrial capabilities, but there was a clear need for heavier designs with larger payloads. Enter the "Heavy Weapons Platform". Capellan design bureaus were not yet entirely certain which direction modern warfare would take. Would ballistics prove the superior choice? Was indirect firepower a necessity in coming years? Did a well built Battlemech require ammunition-free devices? The HWP-X1 walked down all three roads, bearing a vast offensive payload for the era of a 15-tube missile launcher, a class 10 autocannon, and a full-size particle projector weapon. Experimental heavy jump jets were also mandated for the HWP. Regrettably, all this equipment came at a huge burden of tonnage, and the HWP left its factory with a terribly lackluster top speed of 54 kmh. The HWP was successful in advancing the cause of Capellan science, providing a wealth of information about how to reinforce heavier frames to endure the strain of heavy recoil and the shock of landing after a jump. As a combat Mech though, it was simply insufficient, disappearing from historical records. Or did it?It is known that the Star League did its best to gatekeep Battlemech technology, stealing from the Houses when necessary. Many of those databases went with Kerensky. And in 3050, Comstar observers, inheritors of said databases, remarked at how similar the HWP's slow, sluggish layout was to the fast, lethal Summoner Prime. No link was ever proven, but the HWP's hardpoints *were* designed to be easily swapped out for other test munitions, much to the technical staff's despair. And the crude, bulky LRM launcher *did* force an offset cockpit...

One of the lesser known attempts was the Leviathan which was the product of a promising engineer with the ear of Terens. On paper it was a highly promising design despite the slow speed featuring two state of the art PPCs mounted on a turret that gave impressive fields of fire, jump jets for added mobility, and a significant array of anti-infantry weapons including a dual saw to shred groups of would be protesters. It would also be at the time one of the most heavily armored mechs in existence with significant cooling capability as a bonus. When it was time for a private demonstration Terens looked impressed as the lopsided mech lumbered forward and began to hover in place using its jump jets, at least he was impressed for approximately 30 seconds. The Leviathans jump jets suddenly cut out and when it landed it suffered catastrophic gyro failure where it proceeded to fall forward crushing the engineer and design team responsible for creating the mech. Deciding to best cut his losses after this setback and put resources into the Phoenix project, Terens ordered that this embarrassment to be forgotten and the Leviathan project was quietly shelved.
Palatinus Questor100 Tons1482 BVJuggernautCost: 7,834,000Quirks: Distracting, Hard to Pilot, Nonstandard PartsThe Palatinus Questor is one of a handful of unusual chasis variations produced by a few minor independent Periphiary houses located along the modern Federated Suns outback or between the Haydes Rift and Outer Sphere. These houses had attempted to push themselves into relevance when by chance they got ahold of partial specifications of the Mackie and some other Battlemech systems. Historic analysis posits that this is due to the hype relating to Battlemechs being so great that the concept of "With a Warship, a nation was a fact" being transplanted onto Battlemechs in those early years.Owing to the lacking technology of these planets at the time and the lack of blueprints, the majority of the components of the systems came out as Prototypes and there was a lack of standardization in parts. The overall cost further limited the deployment of these frames, and the worlds that produced them would soon fall to conquest by various vassal houses of the Federated Suns even before the establishment of Star League, if they were lucky. Other less luckier worlds would find themselves conquered by Pirates who managed to acquire access to then-modern equipment in larger quantities than these worlds could keep up with - especially when the Tortuga Dominions were founded. Some modern scholars from the Fiefdom of Randis and the Filtvelt Coalition have speculated upon reviving the design as a proper fully realized design with modern technologies, but these have thus far been limited compared owing to the myriad of other ventures and projects that need to be done.

Thus when Alaric Ward was petitioned by a group of old men who were enthusiastic about producing a new garrison mech as well as providing pilots for the HPG network that was currently being rebuild he had stated it would be considered it if it was a superheavy design and capable of matching a heavy Clan omnimech in mobility. He had assumed that such an unreasonable offer would have sent this group on its way. It was to his surprise that they started to converse in what appeared to be ancient Greek or Latin, he could not tell which, before turning to him and saying they would need at least eight months. They were ready in six.More out of a sense of amused curiosity Alaric attended the field test personally where he had selected a Nova Cat F configuration as the competition. He saw what these old men had come up with, a large four legged design that looked visually impressive but surely could not hope to match the mobility of a Clan mech? Confident that the test was over before it began, the improved jump jets saw the Nova Cat soar well into the air and land 180 meters away. He was therefore shocked when not only did the super heavy jump into the air as well but leap straight over the head of the omnimech landing a fair distance ahead.
>>98552053part deuxInsisting on a personal inspection he got a good tour of the outside and inside of the mech. It certainly did blend a mix of Inner Sphere and Clan technologies taking advantage of resilient IS heatsinks and chassis while utilizing Clan engines and armor. Wondering how the mech had landed without collapsing he saw that the legs of the quad mech had been particularly reinforced to absorb the shock of impact. While the firepower wasn't that impressive he did note it was ideally suited to an environment where collateral damage was a high concern so that was a mark of approval from him. His concerns were mainly with the cockpit as he noticed what suspiciously looked like a DNI interface was being brushed aside as being solely for diagnostic equipment and the significantly powerful communication array that was capable of receiving uplinks from multiple channels he felt was unnecessary for such a design. Despite this as he had given his word he thanked the designers for an interesting demonstration and would forward the design to the Sea Foxes for they would have the final say. He could not help wonder if this would prove to be a costly mistake if the Sea Foxes accepted the offer.

The Dreadnought is intended to serve as part of the command lance or star of a regimental, cluster, or galaxy, to operate as a dedicated anti-air lance, or to act as part of a general fire support lance with escorts. Utilizing four Arrow IV missile pods capable of firing ADA missiles and four rotary AC/2s the Dreadnought is capable of engaging multiple airborne targets out to extreme ranges. This capability is further enhanced through dedicated anti-aircraft targeting systems and a multi-trac system. Furthermore despite being intended for anti-air roles the Dreadnought is capable of loading more conventional Arrow IV munitions as required allowing it to fulfill the role of an entire missile battery alone, or a lance of them fulfilling the role of an entire battalion of conventional heavy artillery.Due to the difficulty in manufacturing it and the high operating cost the initial production run of the Dreadnought is planned to be highly limited, with ten being produced for Clan Seafox, a star to both Spina and Tiburon khanates as well as 12 mechs to the Lyran Commonwealth, presumably to be fielded as individual mechs or as individual mechs within fire support or command lances rather than an entire company of Dreadnoughts. Based on the success of these production runs are planned to be increased to a further 200 units for sale to the Lyran Commonwealth, the rest of Clan Seafox, and potentially the Wolf Empire, and Federated Suns, the latter likely finding them useful against the Raven Alliance.

Massive tonnages and experimental technology have pushed the possibilities of the BattleMech to new and exciting heights, but they have also severely delayed the adoption of super-heavy 'Mech designs. We have surged forward with an attempt to create a one-'Mech army, when what the Inner Sphere truly needs is one simple step up on the common assault 'Mech. Therefore, we introduce the LBK-3R Linebreaker. Taking our lead from the venerable Atlas, an expansion of the chassis to 115 tons allows us to finally overcome the volume challenges that have hobbled so many attempts to modernize this beloved icon. The weapons suite will be familiar to you all, and lovingly upgraded: an LB 20-X autocannon, LRM-20 with Artemis fire control, Streak SRM-6, four ER Medium Lasers--two in each arm--a pair of Medium X-Pulse Lasers rear-mounted for defense against light 'Mechs, and a new pair of Small X-Pulse lasers for infantry and battle armor defense. All this wrapped up behind 19-and-a-half tons of Ferro-Fibrous armor and an Angel ECM suite, with full CASE II ammo protection, and moving at the traditional 54 kilometers per hour of an assault 'Mech.Today, we are proud to add the Linebreaker to our catalog as our first super-heavy BattleMech design. A simple step forward, built on proven technologies in service of a proven concept.

Thunderhammer THX-1200 TonsSniper3252 BV96,652,000 C-BillsQuirks: Extended Torso Twist, Oversized31 Tons of Clan Ferro-FibrousA Mobile Long Tom was often considered by many commanders to be one of the most dangerous inderect-fire weapons wielded within the Inner Sphere that was able to lay waste to major fortifications, with some of its limitations being the ground it was limited in being able to cover. With the sheer mass available to Superheavy 'Mechs, it was inevitable that one would be made mounting such a weapons system and the Thunderhammer opts to choose two of them with LB 5-Xs being used as secondaries. With the number of heat sinks it possesses, the platform is able to sustain bombardment for over two minutes straight from its internal reserves of ammo - with only a few brief moments of single cannon fire to handle specific instances of heat buildup. Or if a commander is dealing with a particularly stubborn fortification, it can always be recalled that 5 conventional shots can be exchanged for 1 Davy Crocket shot, and this platform can fire off 4 in 20 seconds with 1 further over the following 10.

>>98550670Thunderchild TDC-HG-01Cost: 30,907,125 C-billsWeight: 125 tons BV: 2,568Movement: 3/5Engine: 375 FusionBrainchild of the Free Worlds League, the superheavy Thunderchild is an answer to the question of "How do we even the playing field against the Clans?". While Clan Sea Fox will sell damn near anything to damn near anyone, the League has been victimized by Clan Jade Falcon, Clan Wolf, and indeed their own people frequently using Clan tech in the League's near total destruction. Many Leaguers still hold grudges. The decision to forge an expensive, technically challenging 125 ton machine was decided upon because of one simple truth.Inner Sphere equipment is BULKY. And a superheavy does one thing better than any other option: Payload space in the literal sense. The League being what it is, a think tank was assembled from various manufacturers, both to get the best design possible and to keep espionage (and sabotage) to a minimum. Accordingly, all major League manufacturers have access to the Thunderchild's blueprints. As this mech is meant to contest a technologically superior, at times alien foe, it was named for an ancient Terran vehicle of war that found itself in a similar situation. The Thunderchild is dead simple and for its size extremely cheap, being essentially an overgrown Awesome. Some things in the FWL never change. 3 ER PPCs stowed safely into the torso, a vast array of heat sinks to keep them constantly firing, enough armor to flatten an Atlas, two battlefists capable of punching holes in a Dire Wolf, and a surprisingly swift 375 standard fusion engine complete the 31 million C-bill package, making it comparable in cost to an XL engine equipped 100 tonner. Being a tripod makes the Thunderchild difficult to flank (always handy when your enemies might be Leaguers from behind AND Clanners at the fore), so it serves as a dependable anchor for any battalion. Plans exist for a full Clantech overhaul, but as yet remain unrealized.
>>98560919>any visual similarities to the OTHER combatant in said ancient Terran document are of course coincidental and not at all a result of too many history nerds too highly placed in League industrial boards of directors
>>98550670>>98560919Thunderchild TDC-HG-02This would be the partial Clan tech refit. Same basic idea, but with fancier toys. Clan XL engine, Clan ER PPCs, a 4th PPC (with the sinks to keep it all neutral still), a modest electronics package, some anti-missile defense and most importantly Ferro-Lamellor armor to keep this thing in the fight for a ridiculously long time. Spheroid DHS and endosteel remain since I found I had exactly enough crits to do so, and thus why not leave the more accessible tech in place where possible? Of course it's twice the price and much more of a pain to maintain compared to its predecessor, but a Hellstar with far more durability is never a bad thing if you can afford it. (Don't consider these as dual entries into the competition, it just made more sense to split the two variants into two different posts.)

>>98550670>>98562094The Annihilator was a tool to strike fear into its opponents, yet so often on the battlefield the 100 ton assault mech proved to have a glass jaw. Ammunition explosions, oddly thin armor, being outmaneuvered, all these conspired to render the sluggish machine remarkably vulnerable in the field. Scientists at the Republic Institute of Strategic Combat took a second look at this juggernaut with an eye towards some of the most cutting edge technology available at the time, both Blakist and Clanner. What they crafted was a single prototype model built on Terra and dubbed the Obliterator. A quadruple array of CASE II internal bunkers encapsulated a quadruple array of Hyper Lasers, the most lethally potent energy weapons yet designed. An astounding 50 Clan-spec double heat sinks kept the Obliterator icy cold even as it let loose with unending laser flares, filling the majority of the now 200 ton mech's cavernous interior. And much like the Annihilator from whence the Obliterator came, another quartet of smaller energy weapons protected it, two medium X-pulse lasers pointing forward in the center torso and two in the arms, capable of flipping backwards when the Obliterator was inevitably flanked by faster machines.
>>98562102>>98562094>>98550670Powering the beast was a Clan-spec 400 XL engine taken from a long-deceased Gargoyle, and nearly a Cicada's entire mass in armor clad the hulking monster. This was a bludgeon, a simplistic tool designed to trundle forward into the teeth of any incoming attack and fire until either the Hyper Lasers burned out or the pilot was drowned in a mass of enemy metal. Ultimately though, the Obliterator fell victim not to the ravages of war but to simple biology. It was sent into the field against Alaric Ward's grand invasion of Terra, but the inexperienced test pilot badly misjudged his machine's gargantuan weight on wet soil that could hold an Atlas but not the Obliterator. Skidding down a muddy slope, the Obliterator found itself lodged in muck, its pilot killed when his command chair broke loose inside the cockpit. Later, the Wolves recovered the behemoth, marveling at what they found and thanking Kerensky they never had to face it in open war.

Lose arms, lose side torsos, lose an entire leg even and it's still up and fighting. You could go through a whole tournament dumping shots into the thing and fail to actually kill it. Meanwhile it's pounding 20-30 damage into you every turn forever. Lorewise whoever buys this thing can rest fairly well assured they'll still be operating it 500 years into the future. >Personal FavoriteVoting here for the other, slightly more high tech cheapy boi, the Linebreaker. "What if Atlas but fatter" is a fun idea, the build is pretty solid and it achieves its goal nicely. >Most InnovativeThis has to be the Maalik. Even if it's probably a rules omission, if this is actually working as the devs intended it's a surprisingly good way to use the superheavy payload space since the jump booster size doesn't get any worse per movement point beyond 100 tons. I built an Atlas with a similar concept once upon a time, but with a superheavy you could do some completely cursed 1/2/12 or some shit that takes an entire turn to rotate for the next jump, but then crosses half the field in one bound. And given how low tonnage a 200 fusion engine is, even with all the tons in jump boosters you'd probably still have a good weapons payload. >Meth BabyGhoul. Not even a question. Looking at that record sheet makes me taste colors while I'm projectile vomiting. It's an absolute abomination where he's spending like 8 or 9 tons and massively increasing the mech's C-bill cost, thus annihilating any cost savings it gets elsewhere from armor and such, purely to make space for a 1 ton laser that could have just gone in the already open crit slot in the HEAD. It's so aggressively poorly designed I just have to give it a 10/10 on the insanity scale, no notes. >Best NarrativeI'll throw the Huo Che this one so I'm not voting for myself, it's simple but decent fluff.
>>98570353>he choose the more insane route and I respect that.the narrative is that it was cobbled together from whatever they could Strategically Transfer of Equipment to an Alternative Location, with heat sinks likely being in high demand due to rebuilding and repairing the designers ripped the coolant pods off of whatever they could with many "coolant pods" being the repurposed gas tank from a vehicle with an ICE.As for the claws I couldn't think of anything to put there that wouldn't increase heat or require ammo so I stuck a claw on it because inevitably whatever concussed retard they jam into it will want to close in and punch something. I am not a clever man and in my defense I was tired and the meds wore off so I'd be just crammin anything into the damn thing like I assume the designers would in order to satisfy Alaric's meth induced delusion. Originally I was going to stick a bunch of clan ER PPCs into it with each having a Capacitor but I couldn't get the heat right.
