I'm a bit lost when it comes to spotting since I'm a newbie:
>a mech can only spot one enemy at a time, but can he spot for only one friendly mech or multiple ones?
>what are the benefits of a TAG without special ammo? Just that the spotter doesn't get a +1 modifier to shooting on the same turn as he's spotting? Does the mech it was spotted for ignore the +1 modifier for the spotter shooting too?
>>
>>98456552
One spotter can spot one target, and any number of other units can indirectly attack a spotted target.
Using TAG for non-special ammo only gives the spotter a break on shooting. It is otherwise identical to normal spotting with all the other normal penalties.

>>
>>98456738
Pretty much every Clan had an amount of Wardens or Crusaders, but a Warden clan would be encouraging warden thought and discouraging Crusader and a Crusader clan vice versa. Some Clans had bigger splits, but for something like Jade Falcon they'd be a very small minority who'd be wise to keep their mouth shut. If they didn't they'd be given shit assignments.

Yes. You can use the extra space for the second control system to put in a liquor fridge and seats for some on-demand whores.
>>
>>98456755
I wish dedicated gunner and pilot type dual cockpits were still real. Is there some optional rule that lets command consoles do that?
>>
>>98456957
In game? Sort of but not really. Just provides a little bit of redundancy.

In universe? Hell yeah. Any time you can hand off duties to a second competent person is always a better option. They can pilot the mech while you're using radio/mechcommander interface to organize shit. Or vice versa. Or they can have a sleep while you pilot etc.

>>98457092

The thought of a pilot popping a cold one inside a cockpit makes me happy for some reason

>>

I love this big stompy boy.

So the lance is pulling patrol on a garrison duty contract in a rebuilding cycle.

LCPL Jones in his stinger is bragging about how fast and nimble and superior his mech is, running rings around the lance on perimeter, ranging ahead, behind, pulling off all sorts of 'sick moves, hombre'.

Sergeant Smith in the lance's Battlemaster says 'oh, yeah, watch this, I can do something you never can.'

The battlemaster slowly crusies along in a straight line, doing nothing. 15 minutes pass. 30.
Jones finally loses patience.
'What? What are you going to do? You're just sitting there!'

Smugly, the sergeant responds. 'Oh, I Got up, had a shit, shower and a shave and now I am sitting back in my chair with a fresh coffee. Why, what are you doing?'

As somebody who used to work in a hospital, I always got a sensible chuckle out of Valasek using a Battlemaster, since he's a fat bastard. In the medical profession, "Beemer" is a term for morbidly obese patients, from "BMI".

Newfag here. Picked up the beginner box a little while ago just to dip my toe in, enjoyed it, then got the main starter set and have been enjoying that too (and I’ll probably pick up clan invasion and mercs eventually as well).
My question is just what are these new “core” rules? Is it an edition change? Should I just wait for it to release or do I need to track down copies of Total Warfare and the Battlemech manual?

>>
>>98457936
You can pick up BMM if you want to get started now. If you're used to 40k throwing the entire game balance out with each new edition, the upcoming ruleset is comparatively a minor errata. The bigger problem is just that the Core Box minis are very Introtech-unfriendly and throw you into the modern ilClan era, that complicates the onboarding more than a bit.
>>
>>98457151
Yes

I asked in the wrong thread, but would Prowlers be among the vehicles that had knockoffs made? It's one of the few vees that can have environmental sealing and I'm looking for something that can carry infantry in hostile/no atmosphere environments.

So anons what are some mechs you like for no other reason than you just like it? Doesn't have to be particularly good.

I personally like the Von Rohrs. Yes I know its basically a fat Griffin that can't jump but I just like it. Being a fast Age of War design that runs cool is the best thing going for it even if its armor is light.
>>
>>98457982
It covers pretty much every piece of equipment used by more than four Mechs and the rules for them. SuccWars is easy to handle with that and there's something like a dozen record sheets across the entire roster that are incompatible with the new rules. It's entirely about the minis being designs that don't exist in 3025 and there only being one you can reasonably proxy for the era. Since you've already got minis for that, you can just use the Core Box rules when they release.
>>
>>98458004

>>98457975

>>
>>98457996

>>
>>98457996
the shadowhawk
its never been better than mediocre, and often outright bad, but it looks so cool
always seems like the problem is that they over-invested in the engine and under invested in the guns

but dougram can do no wrong
>>
>>98458048
Shadowhawks problem is that they 'balanced' ballistics fucking abysmally, when in-universe they're supposed to be THE most useful weapon because of their firepower and versatility.
In the hardest canon we have, the books, everyone is scared of the shadowhawks autocannon, because it's like the one off the marauder. Really fucking good.

But on the table top, the basic ac5 is just utterly anaemic.
And to make matters worse, the poor shad never really gets any decent variants. Instead it remains crippled in each incarnation in some fashion.
>>
>>98457996
I've always had a thing for fast mediums, Nightsky and post-helm 6 walk speed centurions are fun.
>>
>>98458048
It's more that the AC/5 sucks in general and ACs only scale at heavier firepower when heat starts to be such a factor that you start needing 14 crit space and 9 tons to balance the heat of another large laser, at which point an AC/10 makes sense as an alternative.

FCCW never happened i don't know what you're talking about. the FC is still going strong in the era of the filthy ilClan. alongside its close ally the DC, the FC is the only hard counter to those clanner fucks
>>
>>98458358
>FedCom Civil War
The biggest mistake was just splitting back to Fedsuns and LyrCom, when it should've shattered into multiple states like the FWL did Post Jihad.
That way you'd have a bunch of IS factions jockeying against each other, an easier time justifying RoTS dominance beyond a gay forced disarmament, the Cappies would still suck but be more realistically threatening to it's now smaller neighbors, and the Dracs would be too busy constantly skirmishing with Clanners in their Northern and Western borders, and the resurgent Terrans further South, to really capitalize on most of the other Great Houses shattering.
>>
>>98458358
Federated Commonwealth existing at all. Unsettled the balance of power too much and if not for Clan Invasion + Civil War would've ended with a solved setting.
>>

>>98458358
Fedcom Civil War. The natural path of the setting was always to make a new Star League, defeat the clans under one banner and have an era of peace with a timeskip before everything falls apart again.

VSD abandoning the throne at the end of the FCCW destroyed all that, and they've been fumbling since that so bad, they already had the DA timeskip with the Stoner Peace and are currently pushing for the clans of all factions to actually conquer the IS and have a hundred years of rule. The overarching narrative of the IS pulling itself together for the greater good and recovering tech and pushing forward from 1985 to 2000 was all just tossed in the trash.
>>
>>98458358
Its both. The Federated Commonwealth's existence wrote themselves into a corner and something had to be done about it. But the civil war ending up just being "Lyrans vs Feddies and then they split up again lol" is so fucking boring. It should have ended with the FC being severely weakened but surviving.
>>
>>98458388
Honestly this. Considering Blackout was already essentially a timeskip and would be a good enough impetus to shatter the nascent star league they should have just had a timeskip around 3100.

>Great Refusal
>IS decides to continue fighting clanners as a collective driving clans out of IS one by one as the IS clans and Homeworld clans all are infighting
>Wars of Reaving and The Society uprising
>By the end of it homeworld clans and IS agree to mutual isolation from each other
>IS clans largely wiped out or made various subjects of IS powers circa 3100
>An era of "peace" really small scale skirmishes, proxy wars, and attempts by great houses to expand into periphery, maybe throw in an era of colonial expansion, physically grow the IS
>Blackout or something similar happens, Star League collapses, and IS clans begin rebelling to form their own breakaway states as the Fifth Succession War begins
>Homeworld clans debate a return to the inner sphere with debates on what to do ranging from another attempt at conquest "we'll do it right this time and not be corrupted by spheroids" to outright cultural or genetic genocide of inner sphere

We Snow Ravens and defenders of the Third Star League gave the Chancellor PLENTY of attention :)
>>
>>98458339
It's everything wrong with IlClan era condensed into a singular object: it's a sterile, flaw-less design, a "better than the Awesome" tryhard design that's heat neutral enough to alpha strike every turn without really threatening shutdown, hiding behind more armor than an Atlas, that moves as fast as a typical assault 'mech ought to, so it can't even be considered slow in comparison. There is no struggle in the Regent, nothing needs to be compensated for or excused by its design, it can simply do whatever the fuck it wants to, when it wants to, to anything it wants.
>>
>>98458516
And then Catalyst wonders why everyone is still tepid about ilClan.
>>
>>98458538
I think Catalyst thinks the best thing for the game is if everyone can alpha strike constantly with massive weapons - roll lots of dice, do lots of damage, make sure the game concludes quicker (more weapons, less slow positioning)

Dull.

>Only using limited amounts of post-clan tech (eg. IJJs or Stealth Armor, or PPC capacitors)
>Everyone goes balls to the wall with ilclan tech taking special armor, IJJs, VSP lasers, PPC capacitors, HAGs as much as they want
>>
>>98458516
>heat neutral enough to alpha strike every turn

Sure, if you narrow your eyes and only look at two of the five variants and even then one of those gets a pass because it's literally just two ballistic weapons.
>>
>>98458388
>>98458417
Personally feel they could have combined the FCCW and Jihad as part of a time jump that turns into an IS style War of Reaving. Spitballing here but maybe make it 100+ year time jump so there are generations that have known relative peace. IS Clans have somewhat integrated more into IS society but there are groups who want all Clan taint removed. Some catalyst kicks start essentially a civil war in the 2nd Star League like someone important being assassinated and it quickly crumbles into a Fifth Succession War with several different groups fighting for control. Homeworld Clans are staging Mongol style raids across various vectors via the Periphery to test defenses and obtain resources. Cause of the time jump can do a rule and tech reset that refreshes the setting while retaining the status quo.
>>
are the battletech rpg's any good?
which one is the better one? i only know a time of war and mechwarrior destiny but havent read into any of them
>>
>>98458631
I actually think Homeworld Clans should have collapsed succession wars style in the Wars of Reaving just to get rid of the whole "second clan invasion" plot that people have been suggesting forever.

>Wars of Reaving, nuking planets from orbit, casually declaring annihilation of other clans, and the rebellion of their science caste results in the clans blasting themselves back to pre star-league tech with a few rare examples of older better tech. Could also lead to a sort of ironic cyclical nature of relative peace, prosperity, and advancement before a collapse backwards. IS had the star league and fell with the succession wars, and rose with the second star league, clans rose during the golden century and collapsed during the Wars of Reaving.
>>
>A Time of War does turns in 5 second rather than 10 second increments, and in the 'Mech rules, it mentions that Heat Sinks are treated as half their standard effectiveness
I wonder how intensely this affects the viability of different weapons in all eras. Doubles turn into Singles, but in 3025, the base 10 free singles act like 5.
>>
>>98458358
I agree with >>98458413 anon in that it was both. Functionally deleting two of the initial factions not even 5 years into the existence of the game was a titanic mistake, but so was how cleanly they made the split up being just a basic revert.

>>98458417
>>98458631
The issue with both of these ideas is that FedCom Civil War was devised and gone through by FASA as the company itself was disintegrating, and they started planning for the Jihad immediately afterwards with the writing meetings going right up to the end.

The 2001 Wizkids timeskip to start up Clickytech was dumb, but the Jihad immediately after with Second Star League breaking near the start was all late-stage FASA.

Probably would have played out somewhat differently if they did do that rather than how things got backfilled to be like, if we use MechAssault 2 as a rough arrow, but still.
>>
>>98458413
I think a more realistic outcome would be for both sides to get totally balkanized like what happened to the HRE after the 30 Years War. It basically could have been an earlier and probably better written version of what they're doing now with the Hinterlands sub-setting.

Speaking of heat sinks, I assume the hole at the rear of the autocannon of the Shadow Hawk here isn't a heat sink? I ask because pic came from Thicker than Blood, and the Shadow Hawk here is supposed to be Zettai Roku, House Nishimura's personal mech, yet it clearly doesn't look like a Shadow Hawk-2K (the short story mentioned that Zettai Roku is supposed to be an SHD-2K where the PPC is kept, but its LRM-5 launcher is replaced by an SRM-4 launcher).

Opinions on the portrayal of Battlemechs in the MechWarrior games? I fucking LOVING Mechwarrior 5 Clans and am almost finished Wolves of Tukkayid and I've enjoyed this game a fuckton.
HOWEVER!
I dislike how the mechs are shown to move, fight and so on in this and the other MechWarrior games. Gameplay is great, love the Smoke Jag characters, cutscenes are kino etc. But the mechs are...eh?
They're too crude and clunky and cumbersome, mechs are meant to move like Mobile Suits, not be WW2 tanks on legs.
Do you or do you not, anon, like how MechWarrior does Battlemechs?

I think Mechwarrior 4 had the best mech animations.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-2mAh9EsWg
Notice how different humanoid and chicken walker mechs walk and run.
How they'll occasionally trip when they take enough damage at one time (not the fall over and blow up animation).
When hit with multiple large weapons they'll nearly fall but recover in response to the damage they take.
Watching the video I noticed that the Bushwackers move differently from the Arguses (what's plural for Argus?)

None of the Mechwarrior games really show how fluid mechs move. The neurohelmets synch the mech's balance to your own sense balance. So humanoid mechs should move far more smoothly and human like.
With the reverse knee mechs, I guess you'd use chickens as your point of reference on how they should move.
>>
>mechs are meant to move like Mobile Suits

The reason the Mechwarrior games are like this is because in the 90’s the games were all made by simulator developers (Dynamix, Microprose, etc…). They made what they knew how to make and that was cockpit simulators. It’s why those games have such a great tactile feel even if the mechs don’t actually behave like they’re supposed to in the lore.
The reason Mechwarrior 5 is still like that is because that’s just what people expect.
>>
>>98461698
He IS kinda sorta correct. Ish. A 4/5 pilot is going to pilot theirech like we do in the nechwarrior games. Tank controls and really stompy and stiff.

A fucking 4/1 is instead using THEIR mech skills to go play in the nosiel games and do a credible and skill full impression of Mech-Ronaldo in the football. Of babe Ruth in the baseball etc.

A 4/0 is going to be doing mech fucking ballet.

Now you get yourself a plot armour3d faggot like phelan kell at what 0/1 and his srupid little light mech with its single large energy gun is moving and shooting and shooting not like a stompy robot, but like a fucking operator operating operationally In the most bullshit of John wick -ian 'oh for fucks sakes' nonsense ways.
Faster, lighter mechs with better pilots almost approach fucking gundam levels of bullshit.

And we know this because who's his face, from bkack wido2 company, in his stinger, was basically 'driving' it like it was an infantryman. Bounding to cover, throwing himself prone, cradling his 'rifle' (medium laser) in both hands in a great shooting position, and blasting heads with it at 1000 m well outside of its 'effective range' (for a normal pilot letting the mech aim it)
>>
>>98461533
I actually prefer how the machines move in the MW games compared to how they work in "canon" since heavy, crude and stompy af western white-made mechs are based kino kingshit
>>
>>98461770
The ideal Battletech animation/gameplay is actually probably somewhere between MW4/MW5 and Pacific Rim; mechs can be agile, but it is a fact of physic that they are heavy and have a lot of inertia. A Hunchback can do a cartwheel in the right hands, but 'toe-toe-hand-hand-toe-toe' ought to sound like walking artillery fire and shake the earth.

It's actually got more to do with how long you've been piloting that specific mech. The more you pilot a mech, the better its computers get at interpreting your specific intentions and patterns. A brand new mech you've never used before is always going to be stiff until you've at least run a few laps in it.
>>
>>98461533
it is worth pointing out that mechs would always seems to look "slow" simply because they are larger
a locust moving at walking gait would still move at over 20+kph
faster than a bike but with the appearance of chicken leisurely walking around looking for worms
a marauader moving at the same gait would actually go further due to having almost twice the height, so it would actually appear slower than the locust at the same speed because it would have a slower gait

a locust gunning it at top speed has never been modelled correctly, since at 120kph it should have the stride of a cheetah or a horse, and that would actually be impressive to see accurately depicted

>>
>>98461911
That's classic lore from the earliest descriptions of how things work. Your battle computer integrates with your neurohelmet to interpret your thoughts and intentions in combination with your physical controls to move the mech.
Newer, shittier writing has tried to downplay neurohelmets into *only* being balance readers like some kind of Nintendo gimmick peripheral, but they have always been much more advanced than that. The SLDF advanced neurohelmets had enough feedback that you could pilot hands free with your eyes closed. Wasn't a good idea since the speed of a hand twitch>speed of deliberate command thought, but you could do it.
>>
>>98461911
No, he's right. The machine will even learn the terrain of its homeworld and copy weird things about your gait like a limp you have in your real leg. Clans wiping ancient DI's on captured centuries-old family mechs is a bigger warcrime than Turtle Bay.
>>
>>98461883
Even this shows mechs even in a more lore-accurate light
>>
>>98461911
The only real advantage mechwarrior houses have over military bootcamp pilots and clanners is that they and their mechs are much more synced up since they've been training in it since it was safe to do so. More professional recruits have been transferring between mechs for their training and sharing blank slate units with other trainees so they can't build that library of mental subroutines.

The real problem is that it doesn't just affect the aesthetic style, it fucks up the game. Mechwarrior is a game where no one can move good and everyone has pinpoint accuracy so every game is just slow mechs easily fucking each other up at extreme ranges. If you ever ask any nostalgia grog about their experiences they'll all tell you that they boated er large lasers because of course they fucking did. Everyone did. There's no actual variety and this complex garage system is so easy to optimize you wonder why everyone else has mechs that suck, tabletop culture limits you mostly to canon designs for a reason.

You go to armored core and they made the right choice, weapons are imperfect in their aim and require timing and correction and mechs, when handled properly, are evasive and slippery so there you can have an actual proper duel. You don't just slowly stagger about other while never missing a shot because your mechs are retarded.

This is made much worse in MW5 because the ai is crippled and braindead so every mission is just seal clubbing a horde of 12 year olds who just fresh installed. Merctech 1.0 soon though so at least crouching, kicking, and toppling is back on the menu. Probably the only thing making me keep tabs on the game.

>>
>>98462360
Players already hate when they miss; dispersion and bloom gives them the delusion that the game has stolen from them hits they would have made; at least in games with really tight TTKs.

I can see a universe where MW weapons have dispersion or spread, but it would have to exist as a critical downside to classes of weapons and not as the rule. Technically SRMs and LBs already behave a little like they have spread, fitting that niche.

I actually have found MW5 to be one of the better games for canon/near canon loadouts as you can still win fights and finish missions without too much trouble by upgrading mechs, slotting in skilled pilots and so on, so you don't end up just running a lance of headcappers or medium laser boats. My only compliant is there's no middleground (that I'm aware of) between full mechlab mods and vanilla; once everything is unlocked there's no reason not to build bullshit.

The typical map only shows systems that are or were inhabited because there are a huge number of stars in a 30 light year area. Personally, I think if they did do a BattleTech film or miniseries, the best thing to do would be an adaptation of The Sword and The Dagger. It's self-contained, the basic storyline already exists, but it was written so early that the established canon has diverged a lot, so there's plenty of room for reinterpreting things.

On the topic of designing mechs I love VSPs. -3 to hit up close is a very enjoyable level of reliability. >>
>>98466929
That was always disingenuous. While it's true that you can still play with Tales of The Black Widow and other stuff released in 1985, the core rules have notably changed since then. There was the Partial Cover change, the move from the basic simple original vehicle rules to BMR vehicles to TW vehicles, loads of other stuff.

>>98466941
This is broadly correct. The partial cover change was the only big difference between the early days and last month that affected introtech mech combat. The melee rebalance we're getting with Core is in the same vein.

>>
>>98466947

>>
>>98466994
the what now
>>
>>98467000
It's mostly a nerf to kicks that brings them up, not an actual buff. But now, punches are just as good with a nice hit table and no control roll.
>>
>>98467009
i would argue punches will be better now since missing carries no penalty. missing a kick and falling on your ass is a bad time
>>
>>98467000
Kicks have been hit with a nerfbat by going from -2 to hit to only -1. Punches have gone from -0 to hit to -1 as well, so they hit on the same number as kicks, which means the question becomes about the risk of a kick making yourself fall vs extra damage, and the punches having no risk to yourself except making your arms busy and having a chance to hit a head or a heavily damaged torso section.

Swords and hatchets haven't changed but are now better relatively because kicks are worse. Some niche melee weapons have gotten buffs, like retractable blades lost the chance to break.
>>
>>98467015
I agree. It's just that the kick -2 to a -1 does that instead of any other boost to the actual punch.
>>
I think the biggest relative winners of the new updates are MRMs, which lost their pants shittingly bad +1 to TN and replaced it with a less important -1 to the cluster table, while Apollo gained the option to turn them into an AE weapon that turbo fucks light mechs and battle armor.

>>

CGL makes missteps, but honestly the rules changes that appeared and got tested in Core shows that at least the guy they had write the book plays the game. A lot of weapons and equipment lost their completely unnecessary downsides that made them much worse than the things they were supposed to be compared to. Like Thunderbolts losing the half damage in minimum range.
>>
>>98467036
None. The Core Rulebook invalidates all of 25 or so, specifically those with the Bombast Laser on them, as its stats changed. If you have any sheets already printed with a Bombast Laser on them before reading this, congratulations, you get a gold star.

It was never true. The very first thing actually called Battletech was a 2nd edition of Battledroids with many significant rules changes. For the first like 15 years of Battletech, we got a new rulebook with updated rules every 4-6 years. Total Warfare is the odd one out for lasting so long.
>>
>>98467015
I'd say it's still situational, damage to legs generally matters more than damage to torsos plus chance for enemies to fall.
>>
Rule changes are why all those anti-Elemental mechs with Streak 2 launchers can't do their job anymore. You used to be able to load infernos into SRM-2 or SSRM-2 and it eas an area effect attack that fucked anything it hit. Now you can load them in regular SRMs of any size, streaks never, and they only have significant effects en masse.

Yeah, it being headed up by the guy in charge of rules instead of, say, the guy in charge of fluff really helped, and with the playtest you saw stuff get changed as it went along as a result of feedback. As revisions go I'm happy with it, even if I don't like every last thing that went down.

So is there any point to clubs, or is that still basically pointless compared to punches and kicks?
>>
>>98467289
Clubs have gotten easier to grab, and now allow you to deal Kick damage on the full body chart, which is occasionally useful. Still niche.

Thing about clubs is you can't make them too good because then they become really useful for every single mech with two hands.
>>
>>98467295
>Thing about clubs is you can't make them too good because then they become really useful for every single mech with two hands.
On the other hand they need to have some genuine value, otherwise what's the point? Especially since it's supposed to be this common thing MechWarriors have been pulling off when the going gets tough for literal centuries. Why bother if mechanically you're better off doing kungfu?
>>
>>98467307
The advantage of a club in that scenario is that it's kick damage on the full body chart, as opposed to two punches. We all know how much more meaningful a 14 damage hit can be than two 7 damage hits.
>>
I wish Dual Wielding was a thing, it's immediately balanced out by the fact you're using up so much weight one two melee only weapons in the arms.
>>
>>98467423
It isn't really a thing irl
>>
>>98467423
You can use dual claws. Otherwise, you can apparently charge with dual lances now, which I think affects all of one wacky Solaris mech, but I'll take it all the same.
>>
>>98467423
You can follow up a chain whip grapple with any other melee attack, including a weapon in the other hand. Templar III B does it.

you should play Metal Fatigue which is an old ass 3d RTS game with mechs. you could do this. It left a big impression on me but i found it during the mid 2000s growing up.

there were legs you could upgrade your mech with so it would get a higher chance to cut enemy parts off.
Random but anyone in here play mech warrior dark age or know anything about the game? looking for people to talk to about the game and what it was like back in the day. I have a lot of the figures from the first set i collected back in the 2000s but i never got a chance to play with other people.

Wasn't it originally designed around being able to grapple with special claw rules so that you'd have an easier time hitting an enemy with the mace?
>>
>>98467951
I don't know the history, but the current rules sets it up so that the Chain Whip gets "bonus attacks" after successfully hitting, either a trip attack if it hit a leg or a grapple if it hit an arm, with that bonus attack repeating every turn until the grapple is broken. Because that grapple attack is a bonus, it doesn't count for your one melee attack per round, although neither unit can use whichever arm is involved in that grapple.

Seeing as Universes Beyond was a big hit for MTG despite the constant bitching of the hard-core fanbase and the dust has settled on the Unseen legal issues, would CGL be crazy enough to try adding licensed mechs from other properties into the game? Mazingers, Getters Robo, Armored Troopers, etc. Presumably not Gundams since they have their own miniatures game now. Maybe bring in Dougram and Macross and have some kind of explanation for why so many BattleMechs look like stuff from their timeline.

That could work, but I would prefer them following one planet through the years, one ruled by a smaller time noble family. Probably Federated Suns, on the closer to Terra side.

Pilot introduces the world and some local level politics, maybe fighting off a pirate raid or giving off the medieval vibe via a 'Mech joust or arena fight. Then there is a military buildup on the world with their levies called up, with the purpose kept somewhat mysterious though people generally figure its attacking the Capellan Confederation. Midpoint of the season, the parts of the family not commanding levies go to Terra for the Steiner-Davion wedding. Remainder of the season, one half fights in the 4th Succession War while the other half is defends against Maskirova and Comstar disrupting the supply lines going through their world.

Season 2 juggles them having gotten a second (maybe third) world from the conquests as part of their demense and the feudal political and administrative nightmare that is trying to manage that, while the War of 3039 ramps up. End of season, heir marries someone from a minor Rassalhauge noble house.

Season 3, the aforementioned hair has inherited and said marriage tie pulls them into the Clan Invasion.

Season 4, FedCom civil war with the Capellan Confederation taking advantage of the chaos ultimately reducing the noble family back to 1 planet, with the family splitting between loyalties just like FedCom.

Season 5, first heir is killed off early into the Jihad and a very young lord comes into power during the chaos before the Word of Blake takes over the world. Family splits again - half goes FedSun merc while the other joins up with Devlin Stone - world eventually becoming part of the Republic of the Sphere.

And so on and so forth. 1 season per major event is a bit tight, but them being on the lower end rather than Great House level could balance that out. And each being standalone would allow for easier greenlighting.
>>
>>98468466
Battletech's build system and game balance is basically almost impossible to properly fit in things from other settings unless you just made up all sorts of new shit for it. For example, a lot of mecha properties just don't do overheating and can just carry extra weight if they need to. You would be skipping that entire balancing feature. You're probably better off just making a new game with inspiration.
>>98468517
Battletech is more wundertech than dougram itself.
>>
>>98465071

>>
>>98468724
It's not impossible to fit things from other settings, however, it would end up moreso in the "Inspired By" style rather than 1:1.

In fact, there is already precedent for how they would do the Universes Beyond style that >>98468466 mentions. The Nebula California books. Transformers, Star Wars, Halo, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, basically every fantasy setting, Marvel/DC, and something that feels like Stargate all have a bunch of legally distinct stuff in there with both additional weapons and specific construction ruleslists to make things that fit with each of the settings beyond the base stuff provided.

This includes stuff like the specific style of laser cannon and shield tech of Star Wars to a method of converting 3.5 D&D to the A Time of War RPG.

Place is stated to be far from fully explored, so they could just keep shoving stuff in there and it's all safe from affecting the wider setting because of the "Hollywood" anomaly cutting off jump drives from being able to leave the area even if they can jump around inside it.

It hasn't been that since Helm, when everything heel-turned into standing armies following regimented, structured formations. Heirlooms took a back seat to House units and merc outfits hiring out in bigger-than-lance blocs. The knight errant-ness of 3025 BT became more a Mechwarrior RPG thing than reflected in the tabletop game, sadly.
>>
>>98469168
>It hasn't been that since Helm
You mean the Clan Invasion. The existing machines didn't magically disappear. Percentages were still something like 95% personally-owned until the clans reaped the fuck out of entire RCT's with a cluster or two (Legend Anthology). Houses were still only making about double what they did before Helm (~10 regiments a year instead of 5), and most of that was used for growing the whole military. Let's not get into the craziness of disappearing Drac regiments after 20YU and FASA factchecking, though.

It was the formation of the Fedcom that forced countries to make their units act more like a modern army (stuff like Galahad got the Feddies up and running first), but it was still full of personal mechs. Of course, the Dracs both kept more personal machines than anyone and had the most problems with making them follow orders and act as cohesive units all the way into the DA.

Okay... okay, okay, okay! I reviewed all the documents and ran everything through a spellchecker. I planned out the pictures that will be posted alongside the batreps. I have confirmed that each post will be within the 2,000 character limit of 4 chan. I have even created a new gmail account just so that it can be dedicated to this.

Aside from having prepped what I'll be posting here, which will take 18 posts in total, I've prepared links that I'll include to files uploaded to a google drive, which can be seen in the pic here. Each of them will link to the documents and files I used to carry out this game and have even more details.

The Lore of Kapteyn Academy. You should probably read this first, as I won't be including it in the BatRep posted here.
The turn by turn pictures of the battlefield, including lines to indicate who attacked who on each turn.
The record sheets for each unit for every single turn, so you can see the damage they took and when they took it.
The BatRep itself, in a convenient and easy to read format.
The Turn Logs. if you're curious what actions were taken from turn to turn, who won initiative, and what the specific to hit rolls were even, you'll find that all here. This is how I tracked everything that happened in the game.
Last, but not least, every Mechwarrior Cadet that was part of the battle has received a written eval, or report card if you will. It details their individual performance, including damage dealt, attacks made and hit, and what your faction's liaison thought of your performance. This will also not be included as part of the 18 posts but you'll definitely want to check it out for how your pilot performed, and maybe the others too.

Current plan is to upload it all at the beginning of the next topic.

Honestly, the first Mazinger wasn't that out there. It was just a big, humanoid mech with tons of missiles and some energy weapons. The bit that would be interesting is how Breast Fire would work with Battletech's heat mechanics, because the deal is that the red "Pyro Panels" on its chest are external heat sinks that draw heat away from its reactor and somehow convert it into wide angled laser beams via "Photo-Atomic Energy". Some of the sequel series turn it into this weird extradimensional thing involving parallel timelines to tie the different adaptations over the years together and because they realized how much it breaks the laws of physics if you think about it too hard, but apart from the weird ancient civilization stuff, the classic series was fairly simple and "realistic", kinda like how Superman was originally just a guy who was really strong and could jump over buildings because he came from a high gravity planet.

Are there any reasons if you're some militia or marketing to them, to not swap out ICE engines with Fuel Cells for tanks? FCEs seem strictly better for the tank thing of boating ballistics and missiles..
>>
>>98470928
Fuel cells actually require a specific fuel, ICE might be lower tech than the alternatives, but they are still future space engines and they can run on any flammable sludge you can scrape into the fuel tank.
>>
>>98470928
Fuel Cells are more picky, ICE will run on whatever you have lying around and can fit in there. If you've got the infrastructure to put out hydrogen you'll want Cells, but a desert shithole is going to get more use from burning the local infestation of tumbleweed.
>>
>>98470779
you for sure want to win.
>>
>>98470951
>>98470958
Also I'm pretty sure ICE goes a lot further on the same sized tank. I guess you could use the saved weight to add more fuel storage for the cell, but filling up your combat vehicle with hydrogen/oxygen tanks is maybe not the best idea.
>>
>>98470928
ICE engines have longer range like an extra 150km and if adding additional fuel tanks get way more range out of them compared to fuel cells. So if you are that kind of autist who plays those really optional campaign style rules then ICE is more fuel efficient.

Also cost of course, fuel cells really are that expensive that you honestly may as well pay that wee bit extra more and get a fusion unless you are going up to bigger engines. ICE is significantly cheaper than both.
>>
>>98471022
>that wee bit extra more and get a fusion
Is this yet another case of FASAnomics not matching the fluff?
>>
>>98470150
No, I'm not, but I wouldn't even say BT does this to me. I think it's more that if I'm going to do this, I might as well make sure it's well planned out. Tracking a game with 18 units that took 17 turns to complete, across several weeks, is something you have to be meticulous about if you're going to do it. So then when it comes time to present the results to everyone, might as well make sure it's in top shape. Also, BT players love the crunch. I might as well share the crunch that I did as I went.
>>
>>98470967
well that's why they call it WAAC
>>
>>98470884
I hadn't checked since then. Upon checking back now, I still don't see it. I'm not in a hurry. I'm also assuming it will be dropped into the Core Rulebooks folder. Would be strange for it to go anywhere else.
>>
>>98471054
Pretty much though it is more a case at lighter engine sizes that you start to question why you wouldn't want a fusion.

Like say I want to make a 5/8 tracked tank. At 30 tons I've got 18.5 tons free with a fuel cell and the engine costs 210k. Fusion has 17 tons free but costs 300k. An ICE gives me 14.5 tons and engine costs 75k. ICE represents a huge ass saving here although not a lot of tonnage to play with here so its out the running. The main thing that kills fuel cells is that if you choose a fusion over a fuel cell you can now have something like a PPC as your main armament. In fact lets make this an example by making a mini Myrmidon.

Fusion - for 854,100 C-Bills you get a PPC, SRM2 w/1 ton ammo, 7 tons of armor. Not bad.
Fuel cell - 638,950 C-bills you get an AC/5 w/1 ton ammo, SRM2 w/1 ton ammo, 6.5 tons of armor. Not great.

Basically for 200k more you get a vastly more capable tank that doesn't really have to worry about ammo costs.
>>
>>98470779
Needs more CLPL.

>>98470758
Honestly I just primed my white metal lads in coats. Brush on as much coverage as I could get, then let it cure for a few days, then do it again until I had an even coat.

I'm still hitting it with some serious poly on the top (2, 3 layers).
>>
>>98471090
If you were truly committed to winning, you would break your opponents minis so they can't be used and they have to forfeit. There's not a rule in any major tournaments about penalties for deliberately breaking minis, so it's legal until a rule is implemented.
>>
>>98471503
That sounds like a misdemeanor and I don't want to pay $6-20 plus labor and emotional hardship in small claims court for each mini my opponent brings, or hide the evidence by simply eating the minis. What if he takes 24 Locusts against my Mad Cat?

>>98471521
>24 Locusts against my Mad Cat
20 would die before getting into medium range
>>
>>98471503
If you were truly committed to winning, you would break your opponent's skulls so they can't play and end up getting disqualified for not playing. You can also take his minis afterwards and nobody would notice.
>>
>>98471555
That's not true and you know it. The side with more units can automatically get initiative advantage, and so the sigh with more units is almost guaranteed to win. That's just simple math. BV differential doesn't even matter. An average 3025 inner sphere lance can take a single Clan Mech 9 times out of 10, no matter what the BV is, just because of the initiative bonus.
>>
>>98471564
>BV differential doesn't even matter.
To an extent, a good clan lance can beat a shittier IS company. However, when you're talking 3x or more numerical advantage it really starts to become untenable.
>>
>>98471564
If you wanted someone to post the experiment, you could just ask.
>>
>>98471634
NTA
what experiment?
>>
>>98471713
We've run the single clanner vs introtech lance game repeatedly. Introtech gets stomped most of the time. Often they can't even get better than long range shots while the clanner gets to pulse it out from beyond most IS weapon ranges.
>>
>>98471726
Are these AI vs AI? Because Princess is pretty retarded, especially when using shittier mechs. I wiped out an entire company of mechs with a single mech fighting Princess because she was incapable of cornering me or concentrating fire effectively.
>>
>>98471750
I'm pretty sure Princess would run the LRM clanner into melee range.

Yes, but we haven't run TimberWolf vs. 8 Locust before. 1 or 2 Locusts die on approach. TimberWolf is then surrounded by 6 Locusts and can't move.
6ML, 12MG, 6 Kicks = 78 damage
5ML, 10MG, 5 Kicks = 65 damage
Then 52 damage, then 39, 26, 13.
Potential Locust total dames is 221, plus knockdowns and potential rear armor damage and high numbers of potential through armor crits.
>>
>>98471761
It's a clanner. Their LRMs don't have minimum range. It'll be fine.
>>
>>98471779
Yes, but they do have much longer range bands than most weapons, so giving the enemy short range when you could have gotten short range from their medium is foolish.
>>
>>98471750
>Are these AI vs AI?
No. It's from a couple years back. Some live players ran it. To control for skill, NEA and one of his local group who's also a high tier player ran the scenario 4 times, IIRC, playing as the clanner twice each. Result was 3 wins and a 1 tie, in favor of the clanner.
>>
>>98471800
Don't forget there was also that one where NEA ran a Stalker against a medium pursuit lance that had half again as much BV as he did, and the Stalker won both times.
>>
>>98471763
Assuming the clanner can't find a 3 level tall cliff or chokepoint to force the Locusts to spend more time running around. The Locusts can't jump either so they need to be able to actually run around to get behind the Mad Cat. Or split fire while the Locusts are still out of range. My first instinct would be to soften up as many of them as possible and then worry about actually killing them in detail when they can't get good TMMs anymore.

Painted up the clan portion of Scouring Sands. Need to find the time to go over the rules and play my first game of it. Last time I've played AS using a tape and terrain was more than a decade ago.
>>
>>98472112
If you want you can play it as Classic. Interpreting the cards in real bt instead of alpha strike works just as well, as the cards basically give suggestions in order of priority and require a human to interpret them anyway
>>
>>98472123
Sure, but I shower regularly, I've touched a woman in the last 10 years who wasn't related to me, and I'm under 60 years old...so what do I have to do with classic? It's a dead game for a dying demographic. Alpha Strike is the only way to play in the BT universe now, so it's AS I'll be refreshing myself on.
>>
What's the best mech if I want to shit out as many MRMs as possible?
>>
>>98472157
The Catapult K5 and Crusader 5K are your benchmarks to beat, as both of them bring 60 tubes on a 4/6 heavy chassis and have a pair of medium pulse lasers for backup. They're weirdly similar, really.
>>
>>98472157
What the other anon said, but consider the Orion MC too. -10 MRM but you get an LBX10 so y'know, worse for your theme but still pretty good
>>
What's your favorite quad?
I like the Revenant
>>
>>98472157
There's an Archangel with 80 tubes. If you're okay with not being a mech, there's a Demolisher with 90.
>>
>>98472157
how many Raptor OEs do you want to bring?
>>
>>98472157
Kodiak II 3 has two MRM-40s with Apollo, and an LB/X-20.
It also costs 115 million C-bills because someone thought a 400XXL engine was worth putting in a unit under any circumstances ever.

its a fucking cool game. the reason i have played it off and on since i got it in the early 2000s is i always learn some new shit about it. its a really deep game surprisingly. but it can be hard to find information on without some digging because its such an old game and was so niche. my advice would be to use cheat codes for extra resources, and just experiment a bit in the skirmish mode. i think you can use those in campaign also.

when it makes sense--utilize the defense relay posts because if you pay attention, your buildings get a large defense boost if theyre in those glowing defense ring borders. for example place some of your anti air turrets in these so they have way more durability. huge pro tip. you need to chain the defense relays all the way back to a home base. when you click on your home base the green ring around it is the defense ring and the defense relays merely extend that force field outwards.

i cant remember if you select your unit with right click or left click but as a kid i got filtered and thought my game was broken because i was doing whatever the opposite one was kek. i learned a lot about the game over the years more in highschool and college.

there was supposedly just recently a break through where someone thinks they found out how to remove the unit cap in the game. in normal 1 v1 play you would never hit it, but today on a modern PC if you tried to make a skirmish game between you and like 5 other AI, you all share the same unit pool cap supposedly. so whoever gets their units out first gets them out. i think its 256.

also btw some times dont be afraid to just end a skirmish or a level that is in a stalemate and start over. if you arent aggressive enough, sometimes because of the battle being in 3 different battlegrounds at once, it can be really tedious to win if the enemy is super entrenched and has a better resource pool than you by a large amount.

Also, refreshing yourself on AS? It's Alpha Strike, what rules did you manage to fucking forget? Commander's Edition is only about 200 pages long and most of it is supplemental material.

christ and the dragon are allies. catholicism is just satanism. Catholics insist their 'pope' is king on earth under heaven. they insist the catholic church have temporal power and rulership that it is necessary, that no one may even speak to god but through them.

i think they CAN be cool, i think i use those sometimes in armored core in fringe situations and other mech games where i need a higher weight limit and dont need something like wheels or treads for a shit load of weight. i think its good for medium mechs maybe.

what i think does look retarded is gundam made a new spin off universe a year or two back where they made a DOM but it had an extra leg that folded out behind it making it a tripod and that will always look worse than quad leg robots.

there is an XBOX original game called phantom crash that had some weird shit in it where they also had 6 or 8 leg things i think. i cant remember what its advantage was.

i think in that game four leg ones can maybe jump higher than 2 legs or osmething.

the whole point of christs missionary here on earth was to show us we don't NEED a priest, a church etc, that we can just pray to god as is, then to show us just how much, he went and showed us how to die, defeat death and have life everlasting. abrogating the old testament covenants etc as superfluous. he showed us how the bible already shows us how to live a good and just life, in grace, that we may live forever after 'death'.

then the catholics come along, with their 'pope' an earthyl king, claiming supremacy over all, including god, to the point of claiming that ANYTHING a pope does is godly, no matter how vile,, evil or degenerate. such as the previous pope having gay twerkoff tranny crossdressing freaks have big gayoff pride parades at the vatican FFS. such as the vatican bank being the most evil, usurious corrupt fucking thieving monstrous cunts there ever was. etc.

they also demand allegiance to the church/. not christ. they interject themselves and even attempt to insinuate you need a priest to talk to god. etc.

they're a satanic perversion of the given word of god. they're literally just the modern day pharisses. a bunch of power drunk and power mad satanists who a lying with scripture to hold on to any power they can get.

hell just look at last, last pope. that german was going to distract the world from investigations into the vatican banks's fraud and crimes, by handing over EVERY nonce priest the catholic church is protecting. he was going to defrock them, excommunicate them, AND have them handed to the law.

instead he was in a totally unprecedented move, un-pope'd incarcerated by the new pope and basically starved to death in a cell. new pope is the (last pope now) who started going full ham on the faggot shit and tranny shit, while convieniently pretending to know nothing of the NONCE kid raping epidemic. he's dead now, and they have latest pope, too early to tell what that psycho lefty hippie fucker is going to do.
