Anyone ever actually read these books? I only discovered their existence while looking for an appropriate name for this game. This game that it is finally time to reveal the results and all the stats of.

Links? I've got a few. Don't forget to replace the " (dot) " with ".". Start with the 1st link to get a brief bit of lore. Use the 3rd link once you've read the Batrep to see how the individual pilots did. The other links all provide various bits of info. Now let's get to it.

Turn 0: The Battlefield boundaries have been established. 2 teams have been declared along faction lines. Free Worlds League and the Draconis Combine, versus the Capellan Confederation and Mercenaries. Preliminary analysis shows a discrepancy in the forces on the 2 sides. 2 Scorpion Light Tanks(hereafter abbreviated as SLT), commissioned by ComStar, have been deployed to support the Capellan Confederation/Mercenary force. 1 tank is being deployed directly with each lance.

Turn 1: All units move out, jockeying for strategic positions.

Turn 2: Limited fire is exchanged. Marik Ishtar(Orange/Blue Locust) avoids a floating crit on the CT. The White SLT takes major damage on 3 of its sides from Marik Ishtar and Hob "Hobby" Hobertson(Javelin).

Turn 3: Most units are now in range of a target and open fire. Most units miss. Hobby hits the White SLT with 3 more ML shots, destroying it outright. Wang Lee(Green Locust) take a MG hit to the head and gets a wound.
White SLT destroyed.
>>
Turn 4: Igzael Antwerp-Jones(Black Locust) takes damage to the RA that crits the shoulder, giving the RA MG a +4 to hit penalty. Hobby(Javelin) takes a lot of damage and a double crit to the LT which destroys a Heat Sink and a Medium Laser.

Vladimir Ignatyev(Valkyrie) took fire from the Javelin that caused a crit in the RA, destroying his Medium Laser. Wang Lee(Green Locust) came under heavy fire a failed a damage PSR. Wang Lee fell onto his back, causing a wound and a double crit to the CT that crit the Fusion Engine & Gyro. Wang Lee now meets the conditions for a forced withdraw. (House rule: Units that meet the conditions for a forced withdraw will only attempt to withdraw each turn they fail a PSR with a +x modifier, where x = the number of wounds the Mechwarrior has suffered. This is checked at the start of each turn.)

Janusz Kotow(Orion) takes a kick to the head and suffers a wound from the Tiger P-Hawk. (Brainfarted here and put the 9 damage into a 5 and 4 point cluster instead of a single 9 point attack that happens from a kick. Thankfully, this would not have an effect on the game.) Janusz Kotow then failed a PSR check for being kicked and his Orion fell on its back.
>>
Turn 5: Wang Lee makes a forced withdraw PSR, needing 9. (7 piloting skill + 2 wounds.) He rolled an 11, so he continues to fight. He attempts to stand his mech back up with a measured walk. (PSR 10, rolled 11.) Upon getting back to his feet, he opens fire on the enemy Blackjack, but missed with both of his weapons. (Needed 6s, both miss.)

Shiloh Verkler(Wolverine) came under massive fire and was knocked over.

Igzael(Black Locust) suffered a crit that destroyed his Medium Laser. Orange SLT took a motive system crit that reduced movement.

Bob Denard(Tiger Wasp) was on the receiving end of Ignacio Nachomura's(Blackjack) alpha strike. All 6 attacks hit the mech. (Four 7s & two 10s were needed to hit.) Among this 22 damage, the Tiger Wasp suffered a crit on its LT which triggered an ammo explosion that tore through the LT and CT, destroying the mech. Bob Denard managed to stay conscious and eject.

Marik in his Orange/Blue Locust attempted to kick Igzael in his Black Locust, but he missed and Marik's mech fell on its rear.

Tiger Wasp (Bob Denard) destroyed.
>>
Turn 6: Wang Lee (Green Locust) takes another forced withdraw PSR. (rolled 6.) With his nerve lost, he flees off the battlefield.

Igzael(Black Locust) takes a significant 18 points of damage, dodging potential crits on both the LL and LT. However, he did take a hit to the head, wounding him, and his Locust lost its LA, leaving him with a single MG that has a +4 to hit penalty.

Quickdraw and Orange SLT take light damage while the Wolverine takes mid damage.(47 total in 2 turns.)

Green Locust (Wang Lee) flees the battlefield.

Turn 7: All sides continuing firing at opportune targets. The Crusader, Blackjack, and Valkyrie have all found high spots to stand still in and shoot from afar.

Warhammer, Shadow Hawk, both P-Hawks, and Orange SLT all take 5 damage. Orange SLT takes motive damage that further limits movement speed.

The Quickdraw(Ayumu Jones) comes under fire from 3 sides and suffers 26 damage. She manages to stay standing and kick at the Orange SLT, but misses the tank. Thankfully, she doesn't fall from missing her kick.

Hobby in his Javelin has fallen back to some rubble to regroup and while he's there, he picks up a girder for a weapon.

Turn 8: The Liao-Mercs strike back hard in this turn! They deal a total of 13 damage to the Blackjack, 13 to the Shadow Hawk, 18 to the Warhammer, and a massive 30 more damage to the Quickdraw.

The Quickdraw had to roll for a potential 6 crits! (Rolls were 6, 6, 6, 5, 6, & 11.) 2 crits in the RA destroyed the Lower Arm Actuator and the Hand Actuator. Under such massive fire, Ayumu had to take another PSR, but passed this one too.

The Black Locust (Igzael Antwerp-Jones) reveals his plan to try and still contribute to this fight while only having a single +4 to hit MG available. He charges the Crusader(Rebecca Buck)! If he's successful, the Crusader would be knocked off of an elevation 2 hill! Unfortunately for Igzael, he fails the charge.
>>
Turn 9: This turn saw a lot of missed shots, with the Marik-Kurita side taking just 14 damage in total from weapons and the Liao-Marcs taking even less, with just 10 damage total from their weapons.

Not everyone has been playing it cool this entire time, especially on the Liao-Mercs side. The Crusader has been holding at 5 heat for some time and the Tiger P-Hawk(Tetsuo) held back to sink 1 heat, dropping to 5. Meanwhile, the Green P-Hawk (William McCormick has gone hot at 14 heat, even triggering a potential forced shutdown. (Avoid on 4+, rolled 11.)

Melee saw a bit more action. Not noted until now, but the Green Wasp(Eleanor Gale) has been jumping behind target and firing into their back and also throwing a punch with her free arm when she lands. This turn it was a 2 damage lovetap to the rear of the Orion.

The big melee action happened between Vladimir in the Valkyrie and Hobby in the Javelin. Vladimir was at a higher elevation and kicked at Hob. (I noticed that I only marked 5 damage to the Javelin's head instead of 6. This would, again, not have an effect on the game. What is wrong with me and putting kick damage on the heads in this game? I didn't even accidentally put the 6th point somewhere else.) Hobby swung his girder at Vladimir and hits it in the RL, destroying its Lower Leg Actuator and knocking the Valkyrie on to its back.
>>
Turn 10A: Crusader and Tiger P-Hawk are starting the turn off hot at 5 heat while the Green P-Hawk is scorching at 14 heat. Igzael in his Black Locust has repositioned and lined himself up for another charge attempt on Rebecca's Crusader.

It's another heavy damage turn for both sides as even Obal's Warhammer managed to land a hit on the enemy Wolverine this turn. The Warhammer has started to rack up some noticeable armor damage. He's still intact and missing the vast majority of his attacks. There's a reason he comes in at dead last for accuracy.

Nacho's Blackjack takes another 13 damage, with his right side suffering greatly. Ayumu's Quickdraw take massive damage yet again(25 damage). One more time though, the girl stays standing! Though in the process, the RA is destroyed. The Orange SLT takes some more damage and through another Motive System check, becomes completely immobile. Tetsuo's Tiger P-Hawk goes hot! An Alpha Strike with a full jump sees heat going up to 15, but Tetsuo avoids a potential 4+ shutdown.
>>
Turn 10B: Rebecca Buck then accomplishes what every Mechwarrior who has ever stepped inside a Crusader dreams of doing. She used up all of her LRM Ammo! 2 potential sources of ammo bin explosions in high risk areas have been eliminated! Rebecca's heat does rise to 13 this term however and with no long range weapons anymore, she'll have to work on cooling off and getting in close. Meanwhile, Igzael's Black Locust had its RT destroyed, which makes him officially weaponless. His charge attack on the Crusader failed, again. He will have to make forced withdraw checks from now on.

Over on the Valkyrie/Javelin front, Vladimir fired off another LRM volley for another miss, whill Hobby fired his Medium Lasers into Vladimir's Valkyrie and destroyed its RL. The Valkyrie fell forward, but Vladimir stay conscious from the impact. However, it wasn't over yet. Hobby, in his Javelin, swung his girder at the downed Valkyrie, smashing it and triggering an Ammo Explosion! This destroyed the RT & CT of the Valkyrie and knocked Vladimir unconscious in the process.

Valkyrie (Vladimir Ignatyev) destroyed.
>>
Turn 11A: The Liao-Mercs Strike Back! & Go Home ComStar Tank!

The turn starts with Igzael Antwerp-Jones fails his forced withdraw PSR and uses this turn to withdraw from the battlefield. It's never good to lose, but it's always better to flee and fight another day than it is to go down in battle.

Black Locust (Igzael Antwerp-Jones) has fled the battlefield.

Obal in his Warhammer actually decides to do something and lands a PPC hit on the Crusader. Good for him. He's technically helping. He's joined by minor fire from Morgan to pepper the Crusader, but it's all surface level. Marik Ishtar in his Locust does some harassing of the Wolverine in his Locust and actually manages to crit the RL and destroy its foot actuator.

Orion takes some rear hits from Eleanor and the Shad takes a spattering of hits on its left side, but they're both still okay.

Ayumu Jones in her Quickdraw is in a bad spot. She's taken a lot of damage and fears that she's on her way out of this battlefield, but if she's going down, she's determined to do something good before she does. The Orange SLT is immobile, making it a prime target for a DFA! Banana Bread takes flights and manages to land on the Orange SLT, completely crushing the tank's left side!

Orange Scorpion Light Tank has been destroyed.
>>
Turn 11B: As Ayumu lands she takes damage to both of the Quickdraw's legs. The damage goes internal and crit checks are made on both of them. The RL clears, but the LL rolls a 12! The LL is completely destroyed and the Quickdraw falls to the ground on its back. The damage from the fall then causes a crit on the Fusion Engine. Her seatbelt holds and she manages to avoid getting a wound on the way down.(Needed an 11 to avoid the wound and rolled an 11.) Still, with a completely missing leg, Ayumu will now be making Forced Withdraw checks. On her first check, she just needs a 6+, but rolls a 4. In light of the Quickdraw having a lost leg, it is judged that retreating from the battlefield is unlikely to work.

Quickdraw (Ayumu "Banana Bread" Jones) ejects from her mech.

Turn 12A: The Liao-Mercs proved that they won't go down without a fight and have evened things out, but will they be able to keep the momentum?

Marik makes a bold move, piloting his Locust into the local river, but he keeps control of it.

The Orange/Blue Locust takes 7 damage, while the opposing Wolverine takes 7, the Green P-Hawk takes 5, and the Green Wasp takes 5. An Alpha Strike from the Orion(needing 7s & 9s.) still saw just a single ML from the 5 attacks hit Eleanor's Wasp. Eleanor Gale has done a great job of drawing the Orion's fire over the course of the battle.

Ignacio Nachomura's Blackjack comes under heavy fire from William McCormick's Green P-Hawk. William did an Alpha Strike and landed all the weapons fire, dealing 22 damage to the Blackjack, while Tetsuo's Tiger P-Hawk takes advantage of the cover fire to sink heat for the turn. The Blackjack's RA is destroyed outright and a Heat Sink in the RT is also destroyed. Nachomura is hanging on by a thread. William even kicked the Blackjack, sending an additional 9 damage into the RL, but Nachomura passed his PSR and remained standing.
>>
Turn 12B: Rebecca Buck comes under further light fire as the enemy Shad landed 5 LRMs on her RA, causing a crit that destroyed the Crusader's Hand Actuator. Alongside the enemy Shad, Obal's Warhammer managed to land 4 SRMs as well. 1 of these was on the CT for a floating crit check. (Rolled 11.) 2 locations were rolled for the crits. The first location was the RT and so it automatically hit the LRM ammo bin causing it to explode for ZERO damage because it was empty! This is the kind of event every Crusader pilot dreams of. The ammo was used and as a result, couldn't explode! So naturally the 2nd crit hit CT's SRM ammo bin! Using the new damage rules the CT took 20 damage and survived with 1 point remaining on the CT. Due to the ammo explosion however, Rebecca Buck suffered 2 wounds and then promptly rolled a 2 on the consciousness check. Her Crusader fell over and managed to destroy the ML in the RA on the way down. She also suffered a 3rd wound.
>>
Turn 13A: The round starts with an Rebecca Buck meeting the conditions for a Forced Withdraw. Under normal conditions, that would mean needing a 9, but since she's unconscious, she auto-fails.

A controversial decision is then made by the ComStar Precentor Elias Voss as he is overseeing the event. It becomes very clear that the Marik-Kurita alliance will be focusing its efforts on ensuring the Crusader does not get back up. Analysis of the incoming attacks was as follows:

Warhammer(+13) fires 2PPC, 2ML, 2SRM6 @ Crusader, needing 2s & 4s.
Shadow Hawk fires AC/5, ML, SRM2, LRM5 @ Crusader, needing 2, 3s, & 4.
Orange/Blue Locust fires ML @ Crusader, needing 4.
Javelin(1ht) fires 3ML @ Crusader, needing 3s.

This was a guaranteed 30 damage minimum with a maximum possible of 93 and a high probability of that happening. The decision was made to override fire controls. None of the mechs were permitted to fire on the Crusader and it was declared destroyed for the purposes of the battle. The truly controversial part is that damage was not calculated for any of the pilots in regards to their stats. Sorry everyone, just how it is. (Before you hate, my own guy was included in that decision.)

Crusader (Rebecca Buck) has been KO'd and eliminated.
>>
Turn 13B: The Liao-Mercs did what it could to capitalize on it with 5 damage to the Orion with a follow-up Wasp punch for 2, 10 to the Warhammer, and 5 more to the Blackjack, but it wasn't much. A crit check on the Blackjack's RT even failed.

Not everyone on the Kurita-Marik alliance was focusing on the Crusader though. Janusz Kotow fired into the rear of the Wolverine and hit with most of its weapons for a total of 26 damage. There were multiple crit checks. Some failed, one destroyed a heat sink and another hit the SRM ammo bin, causing an ammo explosion that destroyed the LT. Taking 2 wounds from the neural feedback, Shiloh Verkler went unconscious. She fell over and suffered an immediate 3rd wound. The ammo explosion caused a crit check on the CT as the damage transferred and an 11 was rolled. The Fusion Engine then suffered 2 crits, causing Shiloh Verkler to meet the conditions for a forced withdraw check. Yet as she was unconscious, this was an auto fail. To avoid a 2nd controversial call, Shiloh Verkler was immediately declared to be eliminated.

Wolverine (Shiloh Verkler) has been KO'd and eliminated.
>>
Turn 14: The Liao-Mercs are down to just 3 remaining units, but it's also all of their best pilots and the 3 of them make up over 40% of their side's total Battle Value. While Marik-Kurita are still at 80% BV, their Blackjack and Locust could both go down at any time and their Warhammer doesn't believe in the concept of aiming.

The most crucial thing that happened this turn had to have been that Marik-Kurita wont the initiative roll. In light of this, they were able to better adapt to their enemies' movement.

Nachomura fired at Tetsuo in his Tiger P-Hawk, going even hotter, up to 12 heat, but he landed 2 MLs for 10 damage.

Eleanor continued to dominate the harassment scene by landing 7 damage on the Orion. An Alpha Strike fired back at her wasp and yet still only hit with 3SRMs, going internal on the RT but not critting. Janusz also tried to kick Eleanor's Wasp, but missed. Janusz managed to avoid falling from the missed kick however. Eleanor tried to punch back, but also missed. Morgan Munroe in her Shadow Hawk was throwing secondary fire at the Wasp, but it missed as well. Morgan then also tried to kick Eleanor Gale's Wasp and actually made contact! The Green Wasp's RL was destroyed. Eleanor's Wasp fell on it's back, but the damage didn't go internal. Her seatbelt check failed and she took a wound, but she stayed conscious. In light of her position on the battlefield and missing a leg, she opted to eject immediately.

Green Wasp (Eleanor Gale) ejects.
>>
Turn 15: The battle is most certainly lost for the Liao-Mercs at this point, but individual pilots can still fight for personal glory here. What's more, the 2 remaining pilots are both in Phoenix Hawks and both have 3 gunnery. They've been proving to be a dangerous duo throughout the entire battle as they've covered each other while ganging up on targets and doing major damage. Yet the 2 of them find themselves firing on different targets this turn.

Morgan Munroe's Shadow Hawk takes 9 more damage from enemy fire. A kick from a higher elevation at Tetsuo's Tiger P-Hawk misses and the Shad punches the leg back in return.

Ignacio Nachomura's Blackjack comes under fire from William McCormick's Green P-Hawk and suffers another 18 damage. The RT is destroyed and the Fusion Engine even suffers a critical hit as the last of the forward CT armor is destroyed. For his part, Ignacio Nachomura fired all 3 of his MLs and his AC/2 at the Tiger P-Hawk, alongside the rest of his team. Nachomura however is now down to just 9 working heat sinks and with a crit fusion engine he finds himself at 20 excess heat!

On this turn, everyone hates Tetsuo and opens fire on him. Tetsuo takes numerous hits, suffering 44 damage in total! The LA & RA are both destroyed, leaving the Tiger P-Hawk without weapons. Tetsuo takes a wound from the mech's head being hit, but remains conscious and also passes his damage PSR. With no more functioning weapons, Tetsuo meets the condition for Forced Withdraw. However, because he has no weapons, he will auto fail his check and start to try and flee.

The turn comes to an end with Ignacio Nachomura's Blackjack at 20 heat and having to make 3 checks. First is an ammo explosion check needing 4+. He rolled an 8. Next is to avoid a forced shutdown. He needed a 6+. He rolled a 9. Finally, he now meets the conditions for a forced withdraw as a PSR of 5. He rolled a 7. Ignacio Nachomura is doing an impressive job of holding on, but he could fall apart at any moment.
>>
Turn 16A: The Liao-Mercs win initiative and Tetsuo immediately jumps to the edge of the battlefield to try and flee. This leaves everyone on the Marik-Kurita alliance trying to anticipate the movements of the basically alone William McCormick, as the fleeing Tetsuo is hidden well behind many forests and elevation 2 hills.

At 20 heat, Nachomura's Blackjack suffers a -4 to movement penalty. His mech is so hot that it can't even walk! He could still use his Jump Jets, but he can only sink 4 heat a turn and that would cancel that out and still risk ammo explosions and forced shutdowns. In light of all this, Nachomura makes the daring decision to manually shut down his mech to help it cool off. He is counting on his teammates to cover him.

William McCormick, notices the Blackjack shutdown and smells blood in the water. With the Blackjack now immobile for the turn, he commits to a DFA! What's more, at 12 heat, this will let him to a powerful offensive maneuver while sinking heat.

Everyone opens fire on the Green P-Hawk, trying to shoot it out of the sky. Obal actually hits with a PPC for 10 damage and Marik his with his ML for 5 damage, but both Janusz and Morgan miss with the entirety of their Alpha Strikes. (Orion made 5 attacks needing 9s. Shad made 4 attacks needing 7, 7, 8, & 11.) The 2 of them just needed to do 5 more damage to cause a PSR and possibly stop the DFA, but they couldn't do it.
>>
Turn 16B: The Green P-Hawk lands on the Blackjack with a successful DFA, dealing 14 damage to it. Part of that damage goes to the head, causing a wound on Nachomura. A crit check on the CT fails to get results. The Blackjack, having been hit by a DFA while shutdown, automatically falls down. It lands on to its back and Nachomura takes a 2nd wound. Despite his wounds, he remains conscious! His Blackjack even goes down to 11 heat and auto-restarts.

William McCormick, the hotshot gunner, has to take a PSR 10 for landing the DFA. He rolls an 8 and falls forward, taking minimal damage. Hot shot gunnery doesn't translate to hot shot piloting.

Turn 17A: The Liao-Mercs win initiative and Tetsuo in his Tiger Phoenix Hawk immediately jumps off the battlefield.

Tiger Phoenix Hawk (Tetsuo Puentealtoa) has fled the battlefield.

Everyone on the side of the Marik-Kurita alliance then goes into a position to try and set them up for a potential attack. Even Hobby in his Javelin who has spent the last 6 turns trying to get back into attack range!
>>
Turn 17B: Nachomura fails his Forced Withdraw PSR, but at 11 heat, his Blackjack still get a -2 to movement, making his current movement profile a 2/3. He declares a RUN and attempts to stand, needing a 5. He rolls a 7. He is unable to do anything else and stays still.

William McCormick is also running a bit hot at 9 heat, also getting a -2 movement penalty, giving him a 4/6 movement profile. He also declares a RUN and attempts to stand. He needs to roll a 6 to stand up, he rolls a 4 and falls over, but the damage is minimal and the seatbelt holds. He tries to stand up a 2nd time and rolls a 4 again. He falls backwards, taking a crit to the RT that destroys a Jump Jet. What's more, he takes a wound this time, but he stays conscious. He attempt to stand a 3rd time and rolls a 3, falling over yet again. This time he falls forward, exposing the rear of the mech as he ends up being face down and immobile.

3 times McCormick tried to stand up. 3 times he fell over. What happened next was horrific. It should also be known that before this turn, the Green P-Hawk had taken ZERO structure damage. In hindsight, an immediate stop should have been called, but who could have foreseen this?

The Green P-Hawk would take 66 damage this turn. The LL Lower Leg Actuator would be destroyed. There would be 6 crit checks on the CT that would result in 4 total crits to the CT. The Fusion Engine suffered a crit. The Gyro suffered 2 crits, destroying it outright. The Machine Gun's Ammo Bin also exploded, completely destroying the CT as well as causing more injuries to William McCormick. William McCormick then went unconscious.

Ignacio Nachomura's Blackjack then kicked the Green P-Hawk, dealing 9 damage to the RA, as on final indignity.

Green Phoenix Hawk (William McCormick) has been completely eradicated.

They were this time.

There will be a hiatus before the next game, but game 2 is definitely planned and as part of that, there will end up being some rolls as well. For starters, every pilot will get the chance to roll for fresh stats to represent their improvements from training. While before, the -1 modifier was applied to represent them being new and unskilled, now, there will be NO modifier, since they're getting just a little bit better.

Mechs will also be undergoing some changes. There are highly influential people at the academy. This provides the potential to get a better mech, but the odds vary based on the pilots current reputation, motivation, faction, and current mech. Every pilot has been put into a different category for their rolling potential. Whatever new mech is rolled is purely optional. Roll for faction weight class and then the corresponding d1000 roll for the mech.

Ah, thank you. I suppose I will. Even with all this preparing, I still overlooked something.

Rolled 4, 4 = 8 (2d6)

So I'm guessing we're still rolling as Green but now with no modifier? Hence just a straight 2d6? Also do you want us rolling our shit immediately or would you rather hold off on that?

Up to you when you want to roll. I'll be keeping track of who has rolled and what their new updates are as they come in.
As for piloting roll, nope! You get the full new 4d6 rolls for your pilot. For all I've kept track of, I certainly did not keep track of what experience rating each pilot originally rolled on.
For you, we'll keep that original 2d6 roll to show you're in the Regular category, but I'll need another 2d6 from you to see the new stats.
Good new for Wang Lee! In the Regular category, the worst pilot stat you can roll is 6! So he's at a bare minimum going to up that by 1.
>>
Rolled 2, 5, 2, 6 = 15 (4d6)

>>98473490
Rolling for Ishtar Marik. Let's see if his run of luck in doing so good in the first battle is sustained with good rolls here.
>>
Rolled 4, 1 = 5 (2d6)

>>98473515
Ah, alright then, here's the new rolls.
>>
Rolled 36, 45, 20 = 101 (3d100)

Mech roll, as I recall was based on 3028 tables?
>>
>>98473555
Actually there's a point, am I taking a single weight class roll, and then rolling 3 and taking lowest, rolling them in combination so that my first weight roll corresponds to a specific mech d1000 roll, or take the worst weight roll and the worst d1000 roll?
>>
Rolled 5, 5, 4, 1 = 15 (4d6)

>>98473523
4/6. Congratulations Wang Lee. That is a marked improvement from the 5/7 Wang Lee was previously.
>>98473521
4/4!? Marik! Are you trying to claim the Charger for yourself!? Well my Hobby is already a 4/4. So I'll roll these dice and upgrade my piloting skill to a 3 to put an end to this Charger contest! GO! Dice roll!
(As the host of these games, I feel like I have to give up any ties to the other players, so if Hobby doesn't get any better, than you'll beat him on the Charger front.)
>>
Rolled 1, 3, 4, 2 = 10 (4d6)

>>98473490
Guess I'll chance a roll for Rebecca Buck. Not sure if I should roll for a new mech though.
>>
>>98473564
You'll make 3 weight class rolls, then 3 mech rolls to go with each of them. Whatever mech is lowest on the list from all of them is your potential upgrade.
>recall was based on 3028 tables?
No. The 3039 tables because of when this is taking place.
>>98473523
So you rolled 2 medium and a light. Realistically, you'd only need to do a single roll for the light mech, since neither of the medium mechs will be lower.

That is actually a hell of an upgrade but feel free to keep it as a Crusader for a laugh.
>>
>>98473566
My Hobby rolled a 3/5 and was previously 4/4. So that means his new stats will be 3/4 because our pilots can only ever get better.
>>98473577
There is no chance of better or worse. The pilots can only ever get better. If you roll a worse stat in either category, it is ignored and the better one is kept. With the mechs, it's the same. Rebecca Buck has her Crusader. She's a merc and didn't get demoted. The Crusader is safe. It's also very difficult to upgrade from a Crusader, hence why she's in the roll 3 take the lowest category. Chances are you're not getting 3 rolls in which the worst of them will be better than your current mech, but you still get to try.
>>
>>98473585
Hold up there Rebecca. First off, you're in the roll 3 category. Second, that includes rolling for weight class too before rolling for mech. Hence why it's so unlikely to upgrade. We can still keep those 2 for weight class rolls, but I'll need a 3rd one yet. Then the rolls to correspond to each of those weight class rolls.
>>
>>98473589

Interesting. Looks like someone has seen some promise in Wang Lee over the past year and would like to hook you up. Would you like to accept the Spider-5V as Wang Lee's new mech or stick with the Locust-1E upgrade?

>>
>>98473603
Not that much in it, but there's surely more comedic value in having DFA in his repetoire, give the man his spider.
>>
>>98473597
Well it was a mercenary roll where I am taking the 30/40/20/10 split as average so the first figure in a 2d1000 is weight and second figure is what it is on a chart. Are you saying you want a 6d1000?
I mainly did it for a laugh anyway to see if it would roll a Crusader again.
>>
>>98473604
Every 'mech is a potential tactical nuclear weapon.
>>
>>98473608
Well bargained and done Capellan. So Wang Lee will have gone from a 5/7 LCT-1V, to a 4/6 SDR-5V. That's very respectable progress.
>>
>>98473614
So no reasons not to give Arrow-IV or AC-20 some more bite?
>>
>>98473613
>Are you saying you want a 6d1000?
Well, I thought that would be simplest, but like last time, it seems there is no universally simple way to do this. I'm willing to take the 2 800 rolls as Heavy class rolls. Another roll like that and you might get to upgrade. Personally, I think it would be awesome if you really did end up with the chance for a Black Knight. Would make great storytelling sense too.
>I was watching the battle. You did great out there, until your ammo exploded on you. You know, I happen to have access to a very special mech. One which I think you could make use of and you'd never encounter that particular problem again.
Also, you're here, doing new pilot and mech rolls, no thoughts on the battle or Rebecca's performance. I mean she accomplished the Crusader dream of actually using up all her LRM ammo to avoid an ammo explosion and then still went down to an ammo explosion anyway!
>>

>I mean she accomplished the Crusader dream of actually using up all her LRM ammo to avoid an ammo explosion and then still went down to an ammo explosion anyway!
I was actually going to type about it but got caught up with the temptation of dice. The gang up on the Crusader was very much Princess tier only thing missing were a bunch of swift kicks. The new rulesets really are making the Crusader a much more viable mech at least one that doesn't always auto die once an ammo bin is inevitably hit.

You know what I'll do another roll because how funny would it be if she got another mech that had more ammo explosion potential than a Crusader? I was actually expecting her to completely lose her mech and end up in a tank and I'm taking her not improving skills from a concussion she received from being knocked unconscious.
First two figures weight, second two figures what they are on the mercenary chart. Lets see what the dice giveth!

Considering how Eleanor performed, I'm.... oh well, she did outperform her inspiration greatly. Let's roll for stats improvement, and fuck that Highlander is one hell of an upgrade.
>>
>>98473705
That's a lost Warhammer and choice of an Assassin if I have it right. If the SHD had taken more than cosmetic damage I'd probably humor the idea of taking it, but I'll be passing.
>>
>>98473707
3/5, so no improvements for Eleanor, as if she even needs it. She'll remain a 2/4 for now. As for the Highlander, when I was deciding on how I wanted to do rolling for mech upgrades, I did a single practice roll out of idle curiosity and it rolled the Highlander, HGN-733P. I thought about how I should let you make rolls for Eleanor yourself. I was even considering it being a roll 3, take the highest bit, because her performance was so good. But that roll just stuck in my mind. Even with a roll 3 take the highest, it's unlikely to roll a Highlander again. So I decided to say screw it and just give her the Highlander.
Maybe it will turn out to be a huge mistake to let a 2/4 Highlander come into existence in this series of games, but we'll all experience that mistake together. Don't get too cocky though. A mech like that puts a target on your back. Anyone who takes it down would have bragging rights for life. If they can take it down.
>>
>>98473566
>4/4!? Marik! Are you trying to claim the Charger for yourself!?
I choose to believe the Charger upgrade was announced late in the year so Marik wasn't aiming for it, but instead saw his ranking on the leader board and thought that if he hadn't fucked up the kick and ended up on his ass, he would have ranked even higher. As such, he started learning wrestling from Ignacio Nachomura to fix his significant deficiencies in Mech Melee, more general improvements coming as a side effect but a big chunk just him having been really bad at melee beforehand and that's what was holding down his score that is now not an issue.

At least, if that's okay if Ignacio's anon.
>>
>>98473818
Ignacio anon hasn't shown up yet. Truthfully, I was expecting to post the Batrep and check back in later for responses, but people started responding quickly. Igancio anon will still have to do his pilot stat rolls to see if he improves. For all we know, he might be the one to get the pilot skill of 3. I will tell you this however, between Marik and Hobby getting it, Hobby concedes the mech. He will have to make do with being in a fire Javelin again, but at 3/4, that's not a bad prospect. Maybe he'll grab another girder and run alongside Marik in the next battle... or against. I won't know what the team lineups will be for he next match until all new rolls are finalized.

Mother,

Thank you for your message and the news it carried. I am pleased to hear that my efforts at the academy have earned our family new clients, nearly as much as I am surprised to learn that you have made use of the extra parts from restoring Dullahan. I have no doubt that the newly rebuilt Assassin will prove to be as capable an heirloom as the inheritence you have entrusted me with. And, of course, I am thankful that you would have it delivered to the academy for me. Even so, I must beg that you allow me to continue operating our ancestor's BattleMech while I continue my studies at Kapteyn.
Dullahan deserves more than to waste away as a glorified statue. It is a relic of the Star League, proof of what the Inner Sphere could become again. Restoring the Lostech it once carried is still years away from feasibility, and it may never again bear its Royal configuration. Yet Dullahan is still a Shadow Hawk, the hero of countless stories you told me as a child. Please, allow me to add to its legacy.

Your child,
Morgan

To be fair, going from his Fire Javelin to a Charger could very easily be a downgrade. You haven't specified the version so it could easily be a 1A1 rather than the extremely new 3034 1A9 (and I doubt its gonna be a decade early prototype 3K) and going from 4 Mediums with higher speed to 5 Smalls would hurt.

Compared to the Locust 1V's 1 Medium and 2 Machine Guns with that very explosive full ton of ammo, the 1A1 5 Smalls is far more reasonably arguable as an upgrade.
>>
>>98474108
Let me clarify here then. The Charger is absolutely going to be a 1A1.

What's the deal with experimental mechs "downgrading" to advanced or standard/TL status? TRO 3145 gives a chart for some equipment but otherwise, do you just need to wait and hope that CGL publishes a record sheet that lists it as such?

It's relevant because a lot of people refuse to play against experimental mechs.
Wondering if experimental mechs from TRO 3055 ever become more useable in later eras. It seems like many of these shouldn't be experimental by 3067 and beyond.
>>
>>98474476
That is a good question and was brought up heavily in the mech industrial thread. I think its trying to fix the problem where things are being classed as experimental when they clearly aren't i.e. x-pulses during FedCom Civil War which are being used on the frontlines but because they are faction exclusive get treated as experimental tech.

On the topic of the Super Wasp I wish more Super Mechs were a thing. Just scale them up and buff their lethality accordingly like with the F/A-18 Super Hornet vs the F-18 Hornet. I would love to see a Super Shadow Hawk besides clantech upgrades.

It's an awkward attempt to combine rules and fluff. From the fluff side it makes sense, things that used to be bespoke, hand crafted experiments made by scientists at a top technical institute and only installed on the most trustworthy units become things churned out by factories across all of known space and available on the open market.
But from the rules side it doesn't really make that much sense. It hasn't gotten any more or less complicated just because you've decided to abide by the fluff and moved into a later era with more stuff available.

The whole point of having factions is to be able to tell people what is and isn't allowed in their army lists. If you're playing Davion then no, you can't field Panthers. The thing about Battletech is that virtually every faction was part of the same galaxy-spanning superstate at one point, so of course there's going to be a lot of overlap in their equipment. Think of it like the Yugoslavian Wars, where most battles had both sides shooting at each other with AKs.

Really isn't nothing to stop you including whatever you feel like. There are RATs for if you are stuck for ideas and want to roll for a specific theme. Just don't try to be that guy who wants to run Hunchback C's in the IS in 3025.
>What are some of the most common mech designs?
Anything with the ubiquitous quirk.
>Can mercs maintain clan tech if they loot it or is it not even worth the trouble?
They can but depends on the era and what narrative you want to go with. Early Clan Invasion era they're more likely to sell it since a single Clan ER PPC would arguably buy you an entire new mech. By FedCom its more available and if you got the money and connections you can typically buy it.
>>

To Anon who was having trouble with the metal minis: get this shit, or the Tamiya bottle with brush.
>>
>>98475488
So, a thing to understand: Battletech is something of a toolbox to make your own fun. Compared to other wargames, there's less of a shared foundation between two players who don't know each other. This means that when you play with someone, you've gotta figure out a way for you and your opponent to both have fun.

A good example: Battletech has rules for using custom battlemechs that don't exist in canon. Some people think this is cool and fun. Others hate using custom mechs.

Doing things that are fun for you but not your opponent is a way to be classed as That Guy, which will quickly have other people decide not to play with you.
>>
>>98475237
>What are some of the most common mech designs?
Depends on the era and the factions find yourself working for, but the mainstay introtech mediums (phoenix hawk, shadow hawk, griffin, wolverine) remain popular through the ages, bug mechs (locust, wasp, and stinger) are easy to get, and as far as heavies go Archer is popular, and Victor and Awesome are two of the most widespread assault mechs. Masterunit list and the random assignment tables are good places to look for ideas.

>Can mercs maintain clan tech if they loot it or is it not even worth the trouble?
Mostly yes, a bigger issue is new parts. Fixing a Dire Wolf for example isn't particularly hard, but if say a clan PPC or laser is destroyed you'll have a relatively hard time sourcing a new weapon.

Overall it's up to you exactly how you want your Mercs to feel, they range from larger and more disciplined outfits like the Eridani Light Horse and Northwind Highlanders down to Fox Patrol (sue me, it's the first lance sized outfit I could think of) composed of four dudes with mechs and a few support staff. Obviously if your outfit can field multiple regiments acquiring entire lances or battalions of assault mechs of relatively rare designs is easy while with just a lance of random jackoffs you probably have two guys with ship of Theseus mechs dating to the Star League, a guy who dug up a mech that sank in a swamp and drowned its pilot, and a random outlaw in a barely running locust.
>>
>>98475219
They also more-or-less have the same tech base, with even Clantech only really being just a little bit more advanced rather than something that is massively brand new, and there are some pretty high tolerances for what you are able to get away with when it comes to their military tech.

The factions are not really "what is or isn't allowed" as >>98475000 put it. It's moreso telling what the most common and standardized equipment is. Non-standard is perfectly fine, you just need a quick justification like battlefield salvage/capture and also want to keep stuff like Intro Date/Extinction Date/If Unique or Experimental in mind for further justifications.
>>
Can you use Battlefield Support cards for artillery and air strikes and have artillery vehicle and aircraft minis on the board at the same time, or is it one or the other?
>>
A lot of anons are going spill ink telling you "it depends" but a good new player mech available in every era with a shit load of variants that will do something you like is the Thunderbolt. It is a solid trooper mech with almost max armor, good weapons for almost any situation and it can generate enough heat to make learn to manage it but can still sink enough to fire cool guns.
>>
>>98475738
I don't see why not. I get the sense that they're intended for people wanting different degrees of abstraction, but there's no stipulation I can find prohibiting their mixing. Might be different in the new rulebook though.
>>
>>98475738
AFAIK there's no rule against having them mixed but it could get confusing. For the rule packet I'm working on I do the following:
Artillery Strikes are done using BSP, but you have to have a vehicle with the correct artillery cannon in your force's TOE to take them.
Air Strike BSPs are verboten, we use the Aerospace BSP rules instead for them.

LRM-20s or LRM-15s with Artemis?
>>
>>98475776
Sure but the same could be said for plenty of mechs. If he has a specific idea in mind one could recommend stuff, after all 90% of introtech mechs have variants up into the ilclan era, if he gets shadow hawk or centurion or vindicator or victor or awesome or ostroc or ostol he won't be getting something he can't use in certain eras, and several of those mechs have more versatility when one considers variants, like post-helm centurions being phoenix hawk speed heavy scouts or the victor having AC/20, UAC/20, and gauss variants.

Really the main thing to consider is if he has a current direction. Does he want mechs that literally anyone can scrounge up? Does he like faster or slower mechs? Does he want his mercs to prefer a certain faction as employers?

Planning on running a campaign locally. I like a lot of the campaign ops stuff but I know for sure the locals are going to have their eyes glaze over at most of the accounttech stuff; so I'm trying to grind off the edges on force management to fit into the more abstracted Chaos Campaign stuff.

Things like pre-converting Cbill costs to SP and measuring refit and repair on missions played instead of a strict calendar. I haven't touched it in a minute, but I have the latest version here.

>Air Strike BSPs are verboten, we use the Aerospace BSP rules instead for them.
What makes the Air Strike ones so bad?
>>
>>98476196
NTA, but we used it for a campaign where each player got 12 airstrike BSP per aero bay they had access to and it basically shook out that they either did nothing because both players could easily fund interceptors and the roll to block a bomb was trivial, or one player had airstrikes and the other player had their thumb up their ass and got to watch their light units eat shit.
>>
>>98476196
Nothing is wrong with them; they'll just be a confusing mix if you run them with the BSP Aerospace. If someone took a bunch of strafing runs they'd work rules wise as always, but if someone then took a BSP interceptor they wouldn't be able to chase/shoot the invisible planes making these attack runs.

CN9-AL has 17 side armor, but more to the point they're introtech variants are about or under 1000 BV and well armed for their weight and price. Hell the CN9-AH has the same armament as the TDS-5D despite being about 300 BV cheaper and 15 tons lighter. Also most Centurion variants are nearly heat neutral making them far more forgiving to play.

Either way I wouldn't recommend a specific mech because he should make his starting lance based on what mechs he finds cool for one reason or another.

Besides if we're talking heavy mechs Ostroc blows the Thunderbolt out of the water.

Had my first attempt at the clanner RP where my character didn't die in their trial of position or first battle
>Rolled Clan Wolf (I did only roll on invader clans), rolled Winson-Kerensky sibko
>2/4 pilot
>Passed trial of position, three kills (two of which I nearly actually killed) straight to star captain
>Just chose a unit, 7th battle cluster leading a trinary of mechs
>First battle was Battle of Crellacor, fighting the Third Oberon Guards
>Rolled opfor size and ran my medium weight trinary straight into a heavy battlemech battalion
>Led my star against a veteran company of heavy mechs in a town
>Surprisingly successful fight despite close quarters, one mech lost, no deaths

Did add a bit of fluff based on what happened, company commander started retreating but for some reason turned around when my mechs approached one of his downed subordinates, fought a 1v4 battle in a Phoenix Hawk PKH-1 against clanners and lasted four rounds before his head was shot, his fusion engine detonated, and he auto ejected alive, but having taken 5 hits (I'd say crippled). Decided to fluff it up a little, pilot was captain was attempting to rescue his lover hence the retarded 1v4 he engaged in and my star captain took him and his girl as bondsmen out of respect. He can be an advisor or some shit and his girl can work in the mechbays.

Forgot to save pics of the battle but here's what's left of my star plus the two bondsmen after the battle.

Gonna have computer vs computer for remaining two stars fighting their own companies. I expect them to die horribly.

Thunderbolts always seem really boring to me. The only thing they ever seem to do with variants is adjust the levels on LRMs, basic energy weapons, and jump jets. There's one variant that shook things up with an AC/20, but even the later variants are just adding prefixes to their PPCs and fucking around with iJJs.

T-Bolts are generally just reliable trooper 'mechs, and it's okay to be the foundation of your lance sometimes. I do agree that the variants need to be more diverse for the chassis, Project Phoenix added some very cool ones like the NAIS (And the Wolf's Dragoons 9W is incredibly efficient) but there's still loads of design space that could be used, like Thunderbolt launchers or MRMs. (I like MRMs, I wish more 'mechs had them after the 3050 TROs!)

A lot of this is biased as the T-Bolt was the very first mini I ever got of Battletech, but at the same time it's served me well.

Usually it feels overcosted to me because you can rarely get into range where it would hit any better than a regular LL. The exception being fast mechs with jump jets, which can get into short range in the enemy's rear and use the pulse bonus to negate most of the TN penalty for jumping.

what is a T Bolt but A bigger griffin? its griffinitude is WHY the tbolt is great. Big energy gun, missile pack. good armour and decent mobility.

hell the best introtech heavy, the tdr 5se, is just a 65 t griffin.

and since the lyrans are making ilclan versions of 'their' totem mechs now, like the crusader and banshee and zleus etc. we should by all rights, have one of those ex-clanmech lines running off some kind of tdr c4 (since there are a c and other c's already) that use cxlfe, c endo, etc to duplicate the og tdr big energy gun (clan) three back up lasers ( clan ) and a fat LRM toob (clan) and maybe bump the 65 tonner up to 5/8/5 or at least ALSO 4/6/4 so it can be the purest expression of tbolty goodness it can be, cheating like a motherfucker with clantech. so players can then go and wipe out clanner scum with their tbolt that is bleeding edge fuckawesome.

plus, its just so classy and cool.

hell, the goddamn suns get a clantech gun fucking jaegermech which fucks. the kuritans have their clantech mauler. the full clantech grand dragon.

Sorry William. I saw in the past few topics you liking the previews of how McCormick was doing and I already knew how it was ending for him. I will clarify for you, William McCormick is not demoted to a bugmech. Those rolls were just to see if you could get something better than your demoted mech. William has been demoted to the Valkyrie that the Capellan Confederation has available to them and Vladimir Ignatyev is demoted from the Valkyrie to the Wasp that Eleanor had been piloting. So yes, you've got a downgrade, but not nearly as much as you thought. I'm sure William will still be able to sling some LRMs down the battlefield in year 2. Then in year 3... well, who knows how the factions will feel about the mechs.

Well sounds like despite my misgivings a thunderbolt is a good core of your lance. Ultimately what matters most is what you like. If you want heavy firepower, mobility, or a cohesive aesthetic (all chicken walkers, all humanoid, bulky and brutish, sleek and modern) you can find something mostly universally available to use. Hell for mercs even a number of clan mechs are listed under Mercs as early as the Fedcom civil war and by the time of the Ilclan it's pretty easy to source the vast majority of mechs unless they're specifically some iconic top of the line mech for a faction (Templar III is mostly Davion specific, Hauptmann is pretty much just Lyran, a lot of the later Jade Falcon mechs with partial wings and talons).

Which era balances how interesting the tech is vs how interesting the setting is for the RPG? I played mostly late succession wars into clan invasion so here are my thoughts:
>succession wars an interesting background but the best tech being some occasional SLDF cache makes upgrading your mech unexciting and people focus on just getting heavier mechs
>clan invasion becomes slightly less interesting plot wise to me, but clan tech and some IS prototype tech become cool loot for players to seek out as an incentive, making upgrading interesting
>civil war might be interesting if we reach it, best tech and a lot of intrigue in the meta plot, especially when compared to the clan invasion
>jihad and dark ages sound boring plot-wise but tech gets better
>ilclan I know little to nothing about?

Ilclan could be fun because it's absolute chaos.
>Clan Wolf is only the Ilclan in name, several clans don't acknowledge them and are a actively hostile
>Falcons are badly overextended and getting raped by the Heck Ponies
>Lyrans were mauled by the Falcons and Wolves but their enemies have little means to stop counterattacks
>Cappies and League are dealing with the Ilclan but are in a pretty solid position
>Ghost Bear just had a war but is rearing up for war with the Combine who just genocided a clan
>Combine is the most united it's been in a long time and while they lost a lot of troops losing the Dragon's Tongue Suns are too bloodied and exhausted to push much
>Fedsuns are mostly bled out but otherwise in decent shape, with both Combine and Cappies distracted with bigger threats
>>
>>98480300

To add to that
The former Jade Falcon occupation zone is in a state of chaos since they made the dash for Earth.
The Lyrans are bankrupt and really up shit creek and desperate, with breakaway states happening.
The Wolf Empire that sits between them and the FWL is barely anything, being full of children and old men units and locals that hate each other.
The FWL is run by an utter incompetent.
The alliance between the MoC and Capellans is falling the fuck apart.

A lot of what's been happening has been to have less big grand campaign type events, and more ongoing chaos across a wide area type events that both really lends itself well to players fucking about in them doing their thing and also trying to dig the setting out of the hole that was dug by the Dark Ages crap. They've pruned a good few factions along the way (very unfortunately in some cases but largely dictated by the Dark Age crap and where it was driving everything iirc), but have added in more. And they've managed to take the clans that are left and made them more distinct. Some shit is retarded and shouldn't have happened, some shit was retarded and they had to retcon it into making more sense after the fact because it was so badly received, and a surprising amount has been is pretty good to great. Like even the ilclan thing itself is playing out in an interesting way because I think CGL has realised its not the '90s and nearly everyone under 50+ thinks clan wolf are just boring cunts, so they're being the baddies really.

Had Saturday night BT at a friend's place. Taught a brand new player and 3 half-new ones. Simple 2v2 deathmatch. Followed an anon's advice and used these teams:
>Shadow Hawk, vet pilot
>Hunchback
vs
>Wolverine
>Griffin
I assisted with onboarding the newbie and answering any questions people had. I explained what all the mechs were about, which ones liked to stay at what ranges, let them choose which one they wanted, and we were off. I forgot to bring a Griffin mini so I had a Beemer as a proxy.

The Griffin pilot SEVERELY fucked up by getting too far from his teammate and letting the Hunchback close the distance. This led to a hilarious and horrifying brutal beatdown where the Hunchie just went to town on its ass, TAC's included. AC/20 was hungry for blood and kept hitting and hitting, it was a sight to behold. The last thing the Griffin managed to do from the floor after getting a leg disabled, as a "If I'm Going Down, I'm Taking You With Me" was, nailing the Shadow Hawk with a PPC shot in the rear, getting two TACs to the engine. The Hunchie then executed it with an ammo bin crit.

The Shadow Hawk pilot tried to DFA the Wolverine while it was in Depth 1 water. He missed, and upon automatically falling had its center torso flooded with water (as far as I'm aware this is how it works, right? both front and rear armor breaches count when prone underwater?). It turned into a 1v1 between the Wolverine and the Hunchback. The Wolverine landed a DFA on the Hunchback and nailed it on the head with 10 damage. After that, the Wolverine charged at the Hunchback. The Hunchback managed to nail it with its AC20, causing it to fail its 20dmg PSR and falling down in its charge.

Brutal display. I'm so glad the newbie was playing that Hunchback, he came away delighted with the game.

One note about this approach is that wowee it took entirely too long. I don't want to do deathmatches anymore after trying objective-based games. Even with Forced Withdrawal

Medium lasers are only efficient on platforms fast enough to bring them to bear. The reason the king crab is shit despite two AC/20s is because you'll never get close enough to use them, and this mech has the same issue.

>Sit on objective with no weapons able to harm enemies
>Get shot to pieces and can't leave objective while you're outranged by heavy mechs with more than one large laser.

But if we want to ignore the option of simply kiting take a Warhammer WHM-6D
>Same mobility
>Slightly more armor
>Two PPCs (can sit on objective and shoot enemies with no concerns of being shot with impunity)
>2 Medium and 2 small lasers for up close
>24 more BV
I'd gladly trade 24 BV and 6 medium lasers for 2 PPCs and 2 small lasers on a 4/6 platform. Brawler heavies are already generally a bad proposition, but when their damage is distributed you can't even have the chance of going internal in one shot against lighter mechs like with an AC/20.

Hell here's another example
>Charger CGR-1A5
>Same movement
>Better armor
>More alpha strike damage
>More single location hit damage
>21 more BV
You can't use that large laser range which wasn't contributing much anyway but you can strip the center torso armor of a griffin in one shot.

I guess it's okay if you like an introtech brawler, but really it's nothing special. Even if I wanted to spam medium lasers on a heavy mech I'd take a Viper VP-5. Jump capable, significantly better armored, and two large lasers for flexibility.
>>
>>98481009
The main point of a King Crab, and to a lesser extent designs like the Awesome, is to project a bubble where the enemy does not want to be. Nobody wants to be in a clear sight line to an Awesome, so they'll waste time and maybe position themselves worse against your faster units so they aren't giving it a clean shot. I've had games where those big fat brick mechs barely even did anything because nobody approached them. But that means nobody approached anything near them either, including good terrain to stage backstabs from and objectives.

I'd argue the Awesome is just a good mech because said bubble is so massive and often unavoidable due to the range. While I have seen King Crabs accomplish stuff in that manner I wouldn't say it's particularly effective unless your opponent is stupid or your lance works really well.
>>
>>98481394
You should definitely be playing more objective based games. Short ranged dangerous mechs in general need the option to force the enemy into their range, else they get kited forever.
>>
>>98481407
Also turn limits. You can't kite it forever when you don't have forever.
>>
>>98481415
This. The average game is done due to the combatants killing each other by turn 10 or 12, so your turn timer should be less than that so that objectives matter. Otherwise, you can safely ignore them just to kill.
>>
>>98481407
Ac20 carriers in general. Especailly cuac20 carriers.

Every gausszilla and Pepsi tard laughs until they HAVE to come within range of cuac20 rape in order to conest the objective that's in cover out of their 'hide in a corner' LoS fuckery.
>>
I feel like there's a greater gap between these
>BT enjoyers who exclusively play meeting engagements and slog through it for hours and hours and hours well-past anything meaningful happening at the table
>BT enjoyers who play small objective games and are done with the affair in 2 hours tops
than between BT players and alpha strike players
>>
>>98481407
While I do play objective games I often find it feels artificial outside of something like a specific mobile objective or attack/defend objective, you won because you were standing at a specific location. However more to the point short range for an AC/20 or medium laser is 3 hexes. That's essentially the point of getting kicked in the shins by a locust if not that turn than next turn, a PPC is at short range just as an AC/20 or medium laser is hitting medium range.
>>
>>98481428
Such objectives as
'get to the enemy spy safe house and dump infantry/power armour into it before they wipe their hard drives and clear out'
or
'get to the hidden power generator hidden in the city amd wipe it out before it completes the power up cycle on the twenty billion turrets your ally is going to face in their attack if you fail'

Etc. Shit you would buy deniable ops such as mercs for.

The magic of BT as a whole is how it scales to your autism, and it scales towards increased simulational fidelity. Breaking out of the 4v4 Final Destination 'Mechs only mindset and trying to replicate the circumstances under which 'Mechs fight in-universe is a titanic shift that really brings a lot of the "why does this exist" designs to life.
>>
>>98481444
BT could use more things like Instant Action. CGL was right to include a way to roll random scenarios in the core rulebook. Always want to see more of that stuff. It's very good for when your playgroup hasn't reached the "I want to play historical battles from sourcebooks" or the "game master meticulously crafts a bespoke mission for the group" levels
>>98481453
I enthusiastically agree. It's also why I really want to introduce non-mech units to my friend group soon
>>
>>98481436
More just that they're not arbitrary.
>You're conducting a rearguard action to allow your regiment to escape, hold the star port (misc urban buildings) until the last regular shuttle leaves and your shuttle is ready to be boarded/overrun the space port before the evacuation can complete
>High value target is hiding in this safe house, blow it up before he can be safely evacuated by enemy mechs or kill him before he's evacuated/drive off the raiders or rescue and evacuate him
>Your faction's leader (Coordinator/First Prince/Khan/Mercenary regiment Colonel) has had his mech destroyed, secure the wreckage and either evacuate him or hold on until we can get a drop ship over there/capture the wreakage or kill him inside his crippled mech
Honestly some variant of king of the hill or capture the flag are the best objective types
>>
>>98481485
>some variant of king of the hill or capture the flag are the best objective types
My problems with CTF are these
>If jumping makes you drop the flag, justify why that is
>If jumping doesn't make you drop the flag, then the whole game revolves around jumpy mechs which limits variety
>>
>>98481519
Depends on the flag
>Be dude grabbed by mech and held in its hands
>Suddenly the mech takes off and you don't have a seatbelt
>Smash your head against one of the mech's hands and get a concussion
Could also keep it as an emergency option
>High value target is an unwounded pilot
>Takes 1 hit each time you jump
>4-5 hits it's an tie for the defender even if he's evacuated
>6 hits he dies and defender automatically loses

"Good job, you saved the Coordinator. Unfortunately he will never walk again. Here is your katana... I'm sure you know what to do."
>>
>>98481541
Good ideas here, thanks

I also have a problem with single-hex capture objectives. It's something I brought up maybe a few threads ago. The suggested solution was just "don't have single-hex capture objectives" to which my answer is "ok but i wanna"

The problem is: since DFA is guaranteed to make the attacker move to the target hex (fallen if missing, standing if successful) and displaces the defender (who dodged in case of a miss, or got pushed in case of a non-destruction hit), then parking a unit by the hex against a jump-capable unit is completely ineffectual

My suggested solution to this is making it so that fallen units can't capture objectives—so if a mech DFA's a unit parked on the hex and misses, it will occupy the obj hex but since it fell it won't be able to claim it that turn. Haven't playtested this yet
>>
>>98481568
I means seems reasonable enough. One objective I like is destructible objectives like the mech warrior games
>Destroy the factory
>Destroy the base
>Destroy the drop ships
It leads to a bit of a challenge for the attacker whether to truly focus on the objective or to focus on victory. Do you fire on the dropship before it leaves or do you focus on wiping out the enemy? Do you knock out the factory and run or do you wipe out the enemy and destroy the factory at your leisure?
>>
>>98481616
>do you wipe out the enemy and destroy the factory at your leisure?
What's the objective for the defender in this scenario that makes it distinct from a time limited death match?
>>
>>98481628
>Factory destroyed but enemy remains
Win
>Factory intact but enemy destroyed
Win
>Neither factory destroyed nor enemy wiped
Lose

Could fluff the time crunch being the arrival of reinforcements or the factory sending out files on all the mechs/weapons/random non-war related technology it makes.
>>
>>98481541
>>98481519
Iirc you need mechs with hands to pick shit up, and you can't be jumping with that shit neither iirc.
>>
>>98481655
Destroyed factory is always a lose condition after 3025. Hell even 'factory damaged' is a failure condition. The entire point is to capture or hold control of the factory.

They're like jumpships. Far too valuable to waste.
>>
>>98481628
What I'm getting at is that ideally both players should have distinct ways to score victory points so that one player abandoning the scenario in favor of total destruction won't force the second player to do the same.
>>
>>98481661
Not if it's just a raid for the purpose of weakening the enemy. There's no way in hell we can ever capture this planet but we can still render it useless to the enemy. Personally I like the depressing irony if the factory doesn't even make anything military related.
>We lost three men in order to destroy the enemy factory
>It's a high price but that's countless battlemechs that will be kept off the battlefield
>Battlemechs? The factory made chemo drugs for children.

I need some tutoring on Clanner behavior circa start of Clan Invasion. I want to introduce them to my friend group who's only ever played Introtech.

Say there is a mission objective for the Clanner player (in this case, me). They enter the battlefield and find an Inner Sphere force defending it. Do they go out of their way to do all the usual batchall shit and forget completely about their objective (so as to give the IS player more of a chance), or is there a lore-friendly excuse for them to contain their autism and stick to the objective?

I lean more towards the former to make it extra clear they are weird, but I also think this effectively makes the match a deathmatch with a round limit. So...I'm a bit lost on what is best

>>
>>98481792
Clanners are weirdly autistic assuming spheroids have any idea what the fuck Zellbrigen and Battchall mean, and tended to challenge them. However to skip that you could just have them having fought either their exact group, a sub group (eg. other company or regiment of the same faction), or their type of faction (eg. pirates or mercs) and consider them dezgra.
>>
>>98481616
Building destruction missions require a special effort to balance. LRMs are premium demolition weapons since clusters always max out and there's only one hit location. An Archer destroys a hex a turn against generic CF 40 buildings and you only need to take out half the hexes to make it collapse.
>>
Would secret objectives work in CBT? Randomized cards with a play/draw system? Or is that too "unorthodox" for CBT?
>>
>>98481897
I've tried it and it tends to feel like a Gotcha system if it determines the entire scenario. What it's good for is adding some spice to a large, multi-player game where there's an overarching scenario objective. That way it lets each player have their own little task to accomplish to earn a win
>>
>>98481913
I've got some preliminary ideas cooked up already. Maybe I'll post them here later if the mania maintains.
>>
>>98481835
I specifically want Clan vs IS for that early clan invasion shock. I was thinking of bringing a MadCat Prime and a Jenner IIC, which with 3/4 pilots are just shy of 5K BV. IS would bring a full lance.

Maybe it'd be something like the MadCat pilot challenging the enemy commander to a duel in a way the IS doesn't understand and then REEing when they inevitably breach their rules and going all out? And once the enemy commander is dead they move on to their actual objective?

>>
>>98481792
>or is there a lore-friendly excuse for them to contain their autism and stick to the objective?
some clans are more liberal with it and also there is sometimes the idea that your personal honor or units honor might need to be sacrificed for the good of the clan. clan invasion is peak clanner batchall autism so there's a good chance they focus on getting sick frags but you could justify it if they're sufficiently impressed with the importance of the objective or on the temperment of their commanders, yeah.

Battletech writing flip-flops as to whether clanners
>somehow don't grasp that IS don't know what they're talking about and are offended and easily fooled
>fully know the IS don't get it and are basically just flaunting and attack normally
>don't bother to offer it at all because they're just savages anyway
or worst
>understand the IS don't get it, offer it anyway while intending fully to follow the rules, get tricked easily, get mad
Most of the time followed up with "after this setback they attacked in full force killing all IS foes" because they still need to win.

Writing by committee, probably. Many adaptions just ignore it beyond the reference cause it's stupid anyway. Just imagine they're currently written by someone wants them to be smarter and they'll be smart enough to put it on hold for the moment.

Genuine question for the true grogs in the thread, was there ever a time where the playerbase unironically thought Clan Wolf was cool? As someone who got into Battletech in only the last few years, Clan Wolf always came off as a Mary Sue faction to me.
>>
>>98482266
>was there ever a time where the playerbase unironically thought Clan Wolf was cool?
When the Clan Wolf Sourcebook dropped and they gave us the entire touman order of battle and roster, that was pretty neat, but after all the Phelanglazing they lost any claim to ever being cool.

When I played Mechwarrior 2 and had a choice between Jade Falcon & Wolf, I thought the Wolves were pretty cool. And then I played Ghost Bears Legacy and discovered I liked them more.
And then of course I discovered more as the years went by and started to dislike the clans as a whole. I don't mind the Bears and Star Adder (And Wolverine) but its kind of like being fans of the best (imho) of a collection of down syndrome retards.

If you had lots of color dice, what would be your preferred colors for each weapon attack?
This breaks down when dealing with multiples of each (can't have 4 greens to resolve 2 medium lasers, after all), but I'm still curious

Example:
>light blue
PPC
>blue
LL,AC/2
>green
ML,AC/5
>red
SL,AC/20
>brown
AC/10
>yellow
Any LRM,MG
>orange
Any SRM.Flamer

>white
>white (bone)
>black
>purple
>pink
>light green
wildcards to fill out multiples of one weapon
considering having specific colors for PSRs and other things like that for fun
>>

The only one I stick to is PPCs must be blue and kinetics must be black.
>>
>>98482266

Yes.

You had to have been there, and probably had to be a teenager playing in the late 80s to early 1990s, and many would rather die than admit it, but there was a time when the Wolf Clan was cool and didn't take shit from nobody. Many ages ago, when this ancient word was not quite so ancient, it was actually considered cool to unironically enjoy things and think that cool people doing cool things that changed meta-narratives was a cool thing for you to enjoy unironically.

That hasn't been true for at least two decades. But late in the last millennium, it was. Briefly.
>>
>>98482668
People have always hated unironic enjoyment
The 90s was arguably the peak of "I'm too cool for this" type attitudes that made punk and grunge so common
Hell, the music scene is just one very long line of people making a new subgenre because they thought the state of the current genre was cringe
Cringe just being the latest iteration of a multi generational backlash against people enjoying things without walls
>>

>>98482690
They snorted lines of Clantech and DHS back then, and in their madness forgot the entire point of Battletech's setting. Now they're wraithgrogs, perpetually high on Clan faggotry, and can no longer derive joy from the game without it. Once players of wit and cunning, reduced to junkie slaves, a cautionary tale.

Actually ran into this a couple weeks ago with my group, with the even bigger issue of being able to drop your guys after the first ANYWHERE you wanted.
Naturally I dropped a Spider right on the opposing flag and got it three quarters of the way to my end of the map before needing to drop my Panther on it to get it over the finish line.

One thing I like about Instant Action's King of the Hill is it scores slower units higher...
Could have sworn there was something about the number of Objectives a single Mech could carry based on Size class, but I'm guessing that was something in the Mercenaries Campaign?

Speed will pick up with experience, both in making better decisions and resolving them faster. That's why people should play Alpha Strike and let CBT languish in the dustbin of history. It's a shitty, slow game, for shitty, retarded people. Never play Battletech, no matter what else you think. It's the worst game ever made. There's no reason to play any game but Alpha Strike.
>>
>>98482845
Nah. Just got to recognize what each kind excels at and use them appropriately
>Classic: Skirmish
>Alpha Strike: Tactical
>Inner Sphere at War/Battleforce: Strategic
>>
>>98482845
The problem with Alpha Strike is it's no longer a battletech game. After removing internal components and abstracting it to numbers, it can be anything. You can replace mechs with D&D minis and call artillery fireballs. Put down some dungeon furniture and you are set. Lance bonuses make a lot more sense as magic abilities too.

You are right, interestingly I found the same pages missing from a different sourced copy.

No it's right because there's technically two clan invasions during that period.
The first one where they invaded us that ended in 3052, and then the second one where we invaded them and unlike them, managed to actually get as far as THEIR homeworld and then pushed their shit in so hard that they were whiny pissbabies who would then go on to claim that they never wanted anything to do with the Inner Sphere, because it was haunted.

Although I do find it funny that literally the ONLY thing in the entire history of the Inner Sphere all the Great Houses ever actually agreed on was "Fuck these fursuit wearing, eugenics peddling, cheap ass mech building, punk ass whiny bitches."
Like, they couldn't even all agree that the Word Of Blake, with all it's nukes and human vivisections, needed to be taken down... largely because of Marik, admittedly. Honestly, it still surprises me that somebody finally got the whole "lets replace someone with a body double" storyline to actually work in their favour or at all, for once, with the whole Thomas Marik/Real Thomas Marik thing.
>>

It's this. If you start out with Mechwarrior 2 then Clan Wolf seemed ok. Especially if you didn't get too much into the fiction. They had some rivalries and character going on, unlike most of the clans who were literal filler material. And now most of those filler material clans are wiped out and the clan homeworlds are consigned to the bin of fuggeddaboutit, because nobody gives a fuck and they're not doing another clan invasion storyline.

But there's been reasons that there's been a drive to make the clans less clan-like over time and it's not just narrative, well ok some of it was that stupid plan way back as a result of Mechwarrior Dark Age and CBT nearly dying to destroy the IS and replace it with just clans but that's long gone. As now it is that CGL realised that holy shit, people like the IS factions more.
And now the most popular clan is the Bears by far practically because they're now just another IS state. Scorpion Empire? Periphery state. Wolf Empire? Failing IS state. Hinterlands? Got it's own Jade Falcon splinter faction becoming a minor IS state and the remnants of Jade Falcon itself having to drastically shift gears. Novacat? deadlol. Snow Raven? Barely holding together a pet periphery state.

They'll probably do something like that too with the Sea Foxes because there's no way that lot don't just get seduced into becoming landed gentry to do something with all that money, like what's the fucking point of them even being a clan any more?
Clans are a dead end concept long-term. And like the steppe nomads that partly inspired them, where not exterminated or forced out, they'll just settle down and integrate, losing everything that they were.
>>
>>98483999

I mean, Sea Foxes/Diamond Sharks were the least clanlike clans to begin with. The only reason they were crusader during the war was because the merchants accidentally let the retards call the shots. Like, these were the guys who REPEATEDLY got into trouble with the other clans because they weren't complete retards and recognized just how much money there was to be made selling ClanTech Battlemechs expressly tailored and marketed to the Inner Sphere.
At this point they'd probably just become roving merchants willing to sell clantech if Great House has coin fulltime. Like, there's nothing wrong with that, and if they were going to go anywhere further, it would probably be to replace ComStar as the HPG guys, since that would fit pretty well into their existing portfolio's anyway.
>>
>>98482739

Melissa also had it work out for a while, body doubles tend to work when they're consensual.
>>
>>98484110
Across most of clan space, merchants tended to be crusaders because they're greedy piggies who drooled at the possibilities of having access to the resources of the inner sphere. The Sharks were the most internally aligned on the issue.

This is also the reason why I love the Uziel.
>>
>>98483999
The Clans becoming less Clan-like is also just kind of expected. It's a society where the guy in charge is the guy who is the best at robot fighting and someone who is consistently wrong but also good at robot fighting can just kill everyone who tells them they are wrong.

Within their rules there is no exit ramp for a 0/0 Dire Wolf pilot who is also a total retard being the boss and similarly the absolute greatest leader can be usurped if they are a subpar warrior. Any attempts to avoid these outcomes must be done through subterfuge and carries the risk of everyone else agreeing to annihilate your entire Clan.

Anyone with an IQ above room temperature, even your average Clanner, is going to realize that is really retarded once you see there are functional societies that don't suck fucking balls for literally everyone who isn't the absolute best at robot fighting. Why do you think Natasha Kerensky is the only major player from Wolf's Dragoons that elected to return?

You can't even say it worked in the long run since the surviving Clans saw their entire society collapse into the exact kind of genocidal warfare that the entire Exodus was meant to escape.

Personally I'd like to see them get neutered a bit by something like a failed venture to buy out a chunk of the Lyran state and then get sucked into a potential forever war trying to hold bits of it when the angry population rejects the bit of the clan that are still trying to do clan things the clan way, splitting clan sea fox into a wait what the fuck even are we any more? kind of civil war. Or they push shit too far somewhere with their dealings in the 3rd Star League and the increasingly paranoid Alaric decided to remind them real power comes from the barrels of a Warship.

Something, anything really, they've had too much shit go right for them. They already are the HPG guys and also like multiple major mech and weapons companies rolled into one plus a significant combat force and running the MRBC equivalent. They're basically Comstar functionality plus openly selling a bunch of their output instead of just quietly building up secret armies and somehow everyone is ok with these clanners doing this because fuck it why not.

8S and 9S are a bit niche, but also novel designs.
>>
>>98486643
I don't deny it can try that and if it was a 3050s design I'd be singing its praises. The problem I have always had is that its a 3060s design and 8 tons of armor with only 10 DHS on the 2S even as a 6/9/6 doesn't exactly impress me not when I weigh the possible alternatives especially at its cost.

It was designed by the same artist. The Zaku is, by most accounts, the design Kunio Okawara was proudest of in the original Gundam show and he saw Dougram as a chance to go back and do a more "realistic" take on it using everything he'd learned in the intervening years.

Four-flag CTF. Whichever team can claim two flags plus hold their own is the winner.
>>
>>98487253
If it's something the company came up with on their own, then generally the government gets first dibs on it and then they go fishing for foreign government contracts, and then if all else fails, open market.
If it's something that was made because someone (usually, but not always the government) commissioned them to do it, then that entity gets first and sometimes only dibs on it. Once in a while the rights to make something will be sold to another company. Typically this puts it out on the open market.
But no matter what, mechs will fall off the back of space trucks. Maybe it "failed QA and was scrapped". Maybe it "doesn't have serial numbers and we don't know who made it but we're very mad that someone is making knockoffs". Maybe it "isn't even the same design, look, that part is held on with square head screws instead of the signature octagons so iconic to your exclusive design, totally different mech". No matter what, most of the companies making these things have no allegiance to anything but their bottom line.

>>
>>98487132
The Wolverine is kinda situational. I feel like it's at its best when teamed up with Griffins or other long ranged mediums playing crowd control against anything that gets too close. Which, I guess matches the fluff, since it's meant to be a lance leader's mech, so it should be at it's best working in concert with others.
>>
>>98488394
The problems stack up when challenging a high ranking clanner. A lot of challenges can be dismissed outright as unworthy or bad for clan cohesion, and then a lot of the challenges that get through that filter allow the challenged to pick the format, and that guy is going to pick mech fight. An elemental could challenge him to mech vs point fight, but even with half his guns tied behind his back it's not looking great for the elementals.
A member of his own bloodhouse could maybe challenge him for being a dumbass and disgracing their name, but that loops back to mech fight.

I get the feeling we already have a hint of where it may come from. Battletech Universe is pretty much just a more detailed primer, but page 134 "Interstellar Corporations" makes note that the Sea Foxes are generally and steadily interrupting the status quo of neutrality and quietly making money. It speculates on the idea of a corporate cabal between all the top companies, and while I don't think one yet exists as Comstar would have even in their diminished state been working to prevent that...there's no more Comstar. Sea Fox would not generally be aware of that shadow war and been making moves to avoid it, and are actively throwing their lot in with the Wolves and 3rd Star League. And the page leaves off on the question of whether Sea Fox will continue to be regarded as trading partners, or arch competition.

If attitudes shift to the latter, that could be the impetus for a Cabal to form that is intended to cut Sea Fox down to size. And they are gonna have a lot of money to throw around for a lot of mercenaries as well as a ton of political favors to call in.

Search Fox notably has some enclaves, so this could lead to the formation of various Venice-style Merchant Republics, to keep things in the Feudalism style.

It's neither nor failing (thanks to the plot armor/purple bird general retardataion), nor IS state, as all sourcebooks from Dark Age to ilClan points out that it's strict Clan autocracy, without even pretending to form some kind of hybrid co-existance (Ravens and Bears). But IMO it would be fine only if in further lore development Empire eventually became Team Green in following Dance of the Wolves.

Clans being less clan like makes logical sense, they're a vastly outnumbered people ruling over a relatively vast area. You pretty much always see the invaders assimilate when they conquer a more numerous people, the Manchus and Chinese, the Franks and Gallo-Romans, the Lombards and Italians, Mongols and the Turkic peoples, Turks and the Iranian peoples.

I personally wish we saw more diversity of governments and cultures though, seems like all the IS clans are pretty much either
>Clans ruling alongside civilian administration but civilian administration has no real authority
>Clan rules alone but gives civvies some means to voice interest
>>
>>98489003
That's mostly because writters are barely focusing on differences, which makes them more or less distinct. Instead we get stories, where clanner protagonists and their friends are more or less the same Trial of Bloodright (about Republican mechwarrior, who actually ex-Yiff), Element of Treason: Honor (about Hell's Horses Ristar), Falcons dilogy (both snowflake turdbear and Chistu khan). And sourcebooks are usually focusing on large-scale events, so such details (like Hell's Horses and Bears differences, for example) are left on the background.

Ironically the post AoW versions are mostly used by Lyrans, so even though it's not extinct it's not really used by Dracs any more, aside from some they might salvage from the Lyrans, but probably consider too dishonorable to pilot outside of Legions of Vega and other bottom-tier regiments.

A legion of Vega punishment company/battalion where criminals and dishonorable mechwarriors are assigned, that consists entirely of the mechs most despised by the combine. Gladiators, Steiner & Davion salvage, etc. If any Von Rohrs mechs were still in existence they would go here too.
The idea is to humble the mechwarriors by forcing them to pilot such non-dragon-honoring mechs until they have sufficiently atoned for their prior conduct that got them sent here.

Questions about Jade Falcon circa 3049-3050 invading Lyran space:

What mission objectives in gameplay would be apt for them? What kind of small raids would they do with 2 omnis or so? Would they be more interested in capturing or destroying infrastructure? Would they fire on a drop ship getting ready to escape off-planet? Would they fire on civilians or military targets only?
>>
>>98491041
Capturing stuff is fine, half their challenges are just them showing up and saying "we claim your [thing], who dares stand against us?" If that thing happens to be a parts cache or mechbay full of salvage instead of a whole world, then that's fine.
Infrastructure destruction is definitely off the table unless there's a narrow military purpose to it, and civilian attacks are too. The entire point of the clans autistic dueling culture is to minimize the destruction of non-military assets as much as possible.
That said, if they perceive something to be civilian and then it fires on them, the best case scenario is they reclassify it as military and attack, and the worst case is they reclassify it as a chalcas pirate and attack with extreme prejudice.
Probing the enemy is an easy goal for highly honorable clanners. They want to draw out and defeat your best warriors, or at least gauge whether you have any good warriors at all. Doing something aggressive that looks like a big raid so the defenders have to respond in force is itself a goal, even if they just race past what the defense thinks was the target so they can go fight your Awesome in the back.

I could see the Hebis (calling it a Von Rohrs in Drac space would get you shot on the spot) be the what's provided to Ghost Regiments while recognized Mechwarriors have first dibs on Dragons and other more honorable Heavy mechs. Bonus points Krauts and Fedrats call them Von Rohrs purely as a jab against the Snakes.

Gladiators themselves would have a stigma because they're not favored by the Dragon despite being a perfectly serviceable mech, leading it to being seen as only run by either mercenaries or those who needed to buy their way back into being a Mechwarrior(the Gladiator is on the open market) though this isn't entirely fair because some Gladiators are earmarked for the DCMS to hand off to certain units, leading to internal clashing between DCMS mech regiments.
>>
>>98492807
I'll see your "mindless acceptance of change" and raise you "I hate all the changes, including the things literally suggested here multiple times".

If you think any change is bad, then sure, it's bad. If you actually have ever played BT, on the other hand, you know SG was broken, to the point that it was the only gear banned by name instead of era in official tourneys specifically because Cincy used it to break the game over their knees, defeating forces multiple times their size via it.

Thats the point. We dont play "tourneys". We play campaigns, scenarios, or stand-alone matchs. We are not WH40Kids. If that particular type of ammo bothers a number of people in the group, you discuss like actual adults.

Not all change is bad, i agree. But change for the sake of change, or worse, because you want to left your "imprint" in the rules, its retarded.

Then you'll have no problem using the old SG ammo, because you can talk it over like adults with your players and pull out an old rulebook instead of worrying about what the "official" rules tell you. Otherwise, I've got little sympathy for what amounts to a tarted-up invocation of Rule 0. In Objective Realityland, there are good rules and bad rules, and bad rules being changed is desirable.

Sometimes old just suits a group better. I just don't get the idea that things shouldn't be changed because people could do it themselves, or that official change is bad but unofficial change is good.
>>
All change is an act of transgenderism and must be opposed on all fronts. If you see anyone using the new rulebook you have a moral imperative to kill them on sight.
>>

Not all change is bad. For me the partial cover rule change was good. But for me, most of the changes in this new edition are just a dumbing down of the game.

never used SGM missiles outside fucking around in megamek, what changed?

They used to completely negate TMM (but you still had to hit with the TAG), now they remove most terrain bonuses (and you still have to hit with the TAG).

>we decided to keep playing with the old rules.
Enjoy being left in the dustbin of history along with the rest of your irrelevant grog friends, then. You either play with the official rules or you aren't playing Battletech.

Here's Instant Action v6. This is a pre-release test. I'll be adjusting for a week or so and put the true V6 out after, so feedback is appreciated.

There are differences, but they are rarely in focus of the stories or narratives (ffs, Wolf Empire is strict and brutal Clan autocracy yet in Empire Alone ex-FWL planets are barely start any sort of rebellions even after touman departed on Terra, unlike Jade Falcon).
Raven Alliance: technically two separated political entities Clan and Alliance, but Clan is assuming control over key institutions of the Alliance.
Rasalhague Dominion: pre-Dominion Divided all republican institutions were nominally intact, after-Dominion Divided all institutions exists as long as Warrior caste allows them.
Scorpion Empire: Straight up military junta from Clan of scholars (not scientists like Coyote), shitton of reforms with new castes, new bloodnames, but all from Warrior Caste, which appoints governors from old and seasoned Galaxy Commanders. Surprisingly resembles to pre-Wars of Reaving Star Adders clan culture (or SW Imperial Remnants).
Hell's Horse: closest to the original Turk/Mongol nomads on the early stages of thei conquests. Natives allowed to selfgovern as long as they pay tribute (serving Clan's need and not messing with clanners), without merging with Clan's civilian castes.
Seafox: special snowflake with reflective plot-armor, which allows them switching between Clan and Comstar modes (and suddenly causing FWL and Cappies to forget how to fight against Warships with Combat Dropships and ASFs)

The main thing is it's swapped to compatibility with the new Core book rather than the BMM, This let me ditch my custom objective and scanning rules in favor of just using CGL's. I rebalanced a few scenarios too.

My layout guy switched to a new approach for the sake of being printer friendly, so some stuff got lost in the shuffle.

Gay
Everything from CGL is shit and you shouldn't use it. If you were a real BT fan you'd make it only work with FASA stuff.

I just want them to not blow up. I love the idea of generating smoke when firing, but they're just so awful in every other way.
>>
>>98493962
I would make their shots count as AP by default. No alternate ammo, no regular ammo.

Anybody got the picture of fuckheug display Hatamoto-Chi made after the cover of the Hinterlands book? I think it was for a convention diaplay

Sadly there's practically zero mrm+Apollo mechs to actually use these cool new abilities

That one MRM Ares is pretty spooky now.
>>
>>98494018
Inevitably they'll make more mechs, and the designers will use the new toys. I'm looking forward to stuff with bombast lasers and lance + shield and plasma rifles and apollo mrms and so on. Lots of new design places to explore.

Classic Xotl "I need to invalidate every single PSR in this game (despite the book already being in print)" Hahn

Also why is CGL allergic to proofreading?

copy editing costs money, silly. money is for stealing and building porches, not for developing marketable products or services worthy of a customers money.

>Resurrecting Hebis as a way of outfitting ghost regiments
I’m not sure how the DCMS would feel about that. One the one hand, if anyone’s going to use a mech with such a dishonorable history, it might as well be an equally-dishonorable Yakuza rogue.
From another perspective though, anyone who hates the existence of the Ghost Regiments in general might see usage of the Hebi by them as merely adding insult to injury.
I feel like it would’ve made more sense as a jihad-era measure to boost Ghost regiment & possibly Legion of Vega manpower with retrotech out of desperation.

It's also inner sphere, so it should explode on a roll higher than 1 until a better clan version is invented.
