Because deckbuilding is hard for the iPad toddlers that watch the show, it also has some built-in effect that lets you flip it whenever you draw your second card each turn, but also tracks it as the same game object. >that deleted postUh oh someone's mad
>>98460251>>98460254What I mean in this context is strictly Kenrith-style "1 ability that directly correlates to each color"Generic is fine, but from what I've noticed is a lot of WUBRG activated abilities are Majestic Genesis-style abilities (i.e. Temur, so B/W isn't necessary), and other commanders like Child of Alara don't really need Izzet in their identity. They're usually 5c for a reason unrelated to their effect (either a character lore reason, or because they want it to be an onboarding commander)
>>98460201what about a 5 color demon that penalizes you for each color of spell in graveyard/permanent on battlefield but has a strong effect.so like the player could choose which of the 5 colors they want to run but there is a trade off for each color they actually use.I also think a 5color color change commander would be fun. Basically just a card where you can run all the color matters cards and the commander can make things every color or maybye vs choose a color and makes all permanents that color or something.
>>98460277Gangle should be Izzet because Izzet is the color combo of art.

I like that we are getting new land gen, which is significantly better than mana source doublers (in terms of fairness). This guy could have been a wincon if he had trample or if the landfall ability granted Trample.
>>98460829NGL it's indistinct enough that it could be a thopter or something.
Post yfw when you are about to be knocked out of the game after being archenemy.
>>98460886
>>98460858>>6 total mana with 3 pipsSee, this is what I mean. You're LARPing like colorless mana was as freely available as it is now, save for Channel, or that people were running five color decks or decks where the pips mattered, like Shivan Dragon wasn't a powerhouse despite how badly it wanted you to invest in red mana.Meanwhile you take any of the legends of that set and they're better than an majority of the other creatures in that expansion. Again, those creatures aren't the standard for how we gauge legends today, but even in your retarded genetic fallacy, your argument is still gay and retarded. And mind you all of this is so you can simp for a 2/3 french vanilla that's already a downgrade from existing commons, downgraded further because it's UB and needs to be named for no good reason.
>>98460851No, by the standards of all the fucking Instants and Sorceries and Artifacts that blew creature based strategies out of the water you dumbass. Ironic that you would call me Modern brained when you're the retard acting like creature damage is the normal way to win.
>>98460864Peter Jackson has done irreparable damage to the modern man
>>98460886depends on how salty
>>98460861FIRE's problem is that by pushing the ceiling for commons, it leads to a cascading effect where higher rarity cards need to be more splashy and powerful. A random chaff card in a welcome deck to that end is good, but it doesn't need to be legendary.
>>98460947>>98460886or this if salty>>98460864nah I still really like it it's one of my fav books. In someways I like it better than LOTR it has more whimsy
>>98460313How does she usually play out for you? I've been considering a similar "take whatever equipment" commander in Shagrat but still haven't gotten around to building him. I imagine the two would have some overlap.
>>98460955>it doesn't need to be legendaryin the interest of reducing power level it has to be legendary then because there is nothing inherently beneficial about it it's like sorcery being worse instants through and thorugh
This is dumber than the KHAAAAAN card desu
>>98460765Welcome decks are usually full of this kind of shit. Very simple card selections and simple legends too.

I didnt think magic lore was that crazy, but this is some good shit anons. I will now build a second commander deck thats jank for fun. Thank you Rootha Squallheart. Id like to build a Pharika commander deck, but it seems super expensive. Besides proxying are there any other cheap ways to get the bulk id need? Is buying another Golgari precon and swapping in cards the cheapest way?
>>98460916>Yes, some decks played creatureless strats. Therefore, ALL decks did!Come on, faggot. Even three years after the game released creatureless decks were willing to slot in a Steel Golem just for combat interaction.

>>98460987Hey im real :(>>98460983Yea. I figure a lot of people dont engage with this type of stuff, which is super sad now that I see just how much there is. Granted I only played arena and had talked about Thunderjunction and Aetherdrift with a friend, and i didnt find those interesting at all. Besides chandra looking hot in that suit. I almost feel bad wanting to buy a FF precon now, but i really like FFX. Will def think about it, since playing UW is more interesting to me now. Im only upset ill have to wait forever to ever see more lore of my commander. Im also shocked the first strix haven lore was 2021 and then it just continued in april. Is that how it normally goes?
>>98461006please understand some anon here is defending the honor of the legendary supertype
>>98460968>go home and read Rootha lore>This is some good shitFrom my experience it's been the complete opposite. The time I've liked a card enough to read whatever was going on with the character I find out the character has only a few sentences to their existence or the story they had was mediocre at best and it dissuaded me from wanting to bother with them.
>>98460977>Yes just because a handful of legends were better than the absolute dogshit creatured they were printing doesn't mean that a 6 mana vanilla was not badDo you want to try that again? How are youso confidently going from "yes, all the creatures were bad, except those ones were better" to "Those creatures are still bad!" You're jumping from admitting my point to trying to backpedal it without even giving judgment to what exactly a "good" creature is.The stupid part is that you could hae actually made a semi-good point if you dropped this stupid LARP and pointed out that a non-legend card from Legends helped actually win worlds in 1994, because having a damage engine on the board, surprise surprise, is usually better than not having one.>>98460983And stop samefagging too. >>98461035I had her goggles in tf2 and like tight suits, it works for me!>>98461023Yea I think i got lucky as she THE main character but has significant enough of a role and 2 short stories centering around her. Quint is seemingly the main character as he makes a sacrifice and becomes a planeswalker and goes off doing other things. I like Pharika, but i can see she has pretty much 0 lore. Granted shes from 2014 and is only kinda viable due to more recent cards supporting her coincidentally afaik. Id still like my second commander deck to be her i think
>>98460886what if I'm never the archenema but still get knocked up first every time?

I still want to read a lot more of the stories and UW stuff to see all the stuff ive missed. It does feel like most stories are usually something about Phyrexians or dragons though.

>>98461978>proxies have historically meant>>'dude i can't find X card but i need to playtest, wanna play some games with a proxy? will buy asap'NTA, but you're painting with a broad brush there.People have always proxied with lots of different motivations, just like people play with lots of different motivations.Funnily enough, it's the guys who have the worst motivations who seem to dislike proxying the most, because these are the guys who will be spending thousands of dollars on cards and hope that they'll have a paywall advantage over the rest of the players.More importantly, they're also socially in a position where they need to be able to say "You can't be mad, all my cards are legal, I'm not breaking any rules" when the entire group starts to turn on them because they're bringing a griefer netdeck to a casual game.

>>98460763the Hobbit is good but more importantly being the prequel to LOTR its one of the foundational stories inspiring all modern high fantasy, from Dungeons and Dragons to Final Fantasy to Zelda to Elder Scrolls and yes of course, Magic: the Gathering. If Mirrodin, Zendikar, Dominia are 1st Party to magic, and marvel is 3rd party "universe beyond" really anything Tolkien is 2nd party since it directly inspired MTG. so quit complaining about a set that is basically in-universe high fantasy, but with Tolkien characters and locations. >>98460753I dont know shit about Star Trek but there is nothing wrong with those cards at all. The Humpback Whales one is 100% magic staying on flavor from 1994 (the Dark) like Stormtide Leviathan but with modern mechanics. >>98462099>There are budget versions of nearly every staple card in existence and every effect.I have a friend who was complaining about his lands. He only had dual lands that came into play tapped, so he was always a step behind, and anyone who isn't coming in first might as well be coming in last place. In a game like Magic, something as simple as a card being 1 CMC less than another can mean a difference in price 50x higher, because that small difference can mean victory over defeat. >>98462406>its only $35Not if you want one that isn't beat to shit
>>98462420>You see. I need to cheat to beat 2 and 3s because I am just that poor and lazy.Yes, yes. I know. I will not validate you.
What bracket would this be?
>>98462433If you are losing in low brackets because of dual lands you have a lot more issues than opponents using proxies.
>>98462435>bracket 1-3>does nothing>bracket 4-5>too shit to see play
Are there any Chandras or Jayas or etc. that can be your commander? For my red deck I want to run a hot pyromancer lady
>>98462213>>98462196>>98462195>>98462121they're called Reprints. yes I buy them from China and no you can't look at it. GōtC won't do it so Chang steps in.
>>98462443i like how people complain that 5c is slop but then you are supposed to allow perfectly fake manabases 'just because'
>>98462457If Wizards wasn't ran by monkeys it would be a universal rule to allow any planeswalker as a commander by now.
>>98462433wrong I am using format legal game pieces and could still beat you with all basic lands. make your deck worse– it won't matter since you don't have the mind of a winner
>>98462457they both have creature versions, yesJaya Ballard, Task Mage and Chandra, Fire of Kaladesh
>>98462477>Chandra, Fire of Kaladeshdon't deadname the plane chud
>>98462464>perfectly fake manabasesLooks real to me
>>98462289I have had people concede on T1 when I play Leyline of the Void in bracket 4 games on MTGO. not played the deck that runs it enough in paper to gauge the interest (and IRL not that many people use the beta testing bracket system)(and thats a GOOD thing!)
>>98462486>hey legal in formats that prohibit fakes too!hahaha people will say anything to make a sale to those desperate to win in the kiddie pool i suppose
>>98462469no you're wrong. allowing planes walkers, enchantments, sorceries and 2+ creatures are all NOT commander. commander is only one legendary creature everything else is spin-offs. "there can only be one", its the reason why the official name is "Elder Dragon Highlander".
>>98462482i dont have a horse in this race about fictional india but i think they (the people) only changed the name after the plane was out from under the consulate
>>98462497no they changed the name because they found out that kaladesh *could* meant something dirty
>>98462476>refuses to pay for wotc's printers but is 100% gung-ho in sucking wotc's r&dare you even trying to win? this is a perfectly working card that functions within the game rules
>>98462501oh, right, i think i remember a blogpost about thatunlucky
>>98462463>Steppa
>>98462522say that to steppawolf's snapped neck
>>98462522you don't speak Italian? Italian white bordered scrublands are the cheapest duals out there
>>98462612>gets stuckmannized instead
>>98459976replacing Instill Energy in my mono green Toski deck with this so I can have a Horse Riding, Sword of Vengeance & Shadow Spear wielding, Commander plate, Champion helm wearing, Flying Doctor Squirrel hit you for 30/30
>>98462655>squirrelwrong
>>98462140This isn't 2012 anymore, poorfags aren't stuck with literally just guildgates and scry/life lands. That is entirely your own friend's fault for not simply researching what kinds of lands he can play and getting those instead, unless we're talking a precon but even those are always loaded with the majority of what you need now. You literally don't need duals they are so freaking pointless and superfluous nowadays unless you are REALLY going hardcore into two color devotion with your mana costs. Shocks and fetches are one thing, but there are so many freaking cheap untapped options that have been printed to death at your fingertips the entire color fixing argument is completely baseless in 2026.
>>98462217Basic printer paper can't emulate foils and holographs to make my Sol Ring look like the masterpiece version tho.
>>98462674>unless we're talking a precon but even those are always loaded with the majority of what you need nowPrecons still have garbage landbase in them. I really don't blame anyone for wanting to immediately stick dual land proxies into precons.
>>98462289Because putting in silver bullets to counter a specific deck archetype you might not even be up against is retarded. Blame wizards for not making enough good cards that do something generically useful while also letting you hit graveyards.
Since we're on the topic of grave hate, newb question:Do cards still touch the graveyard before they get exiled with Mari? Do you still get death triggers?
>>98462255If you've been into this game as long as I have you shouldn't give a single fuck about giving Wizards any more money. Even if you sleeve absolutely every deck, you've still felt the cardboard they print now at some point, you've literally felt firsthand the fucks they don't give about when it comes to you anymore, the normal consumer. They don't respect the game anymore so why should you? Anti-proxyfags have no recourse to this argument.
>>98462255
>>98462696Yes, they see the graveyard. The trigger happens what the creature goes to the graveyard. Compare that to a replacement effect that would avoid the graveyard: "if a creature would be put into the graveyard from play, exile it instead"
>>98462286Except the game part that most people enjoy requires zero interqction with the gacha part.
the problem with most graveyard strategies is it's very binaryA) you don't touch my graveyard and I get massive valueB) you touch my graveyard and I instantly lose
>>98462686>Precons still have garbage landbase in themNo they're not, they're literally the reason all the extra duals and filter lands you'd go out of your way to buy anyways are so cheap now. You only have to replace like half their nonbasics instead of all of them like you used to. Precons are perfectly fine products nowadays you should really try them out.
Shitsucksfor5clandBasic LandT, pay life equal to your commanders' color identity: Add one mana of any mana pool to your mana pool.

>>98462717https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/announcements/secret-lair-commander-deck-hatsune-miku-decklist>tap land>tap land>tap land>tap land>tap land>tap for colorlessThe precon landbases suck. Even the upcharged Miku deck still has a horrid landbase.
>>98462717No, precons have like two duals that are actually good, and they scrylands and bounce lands if you're lucky. They are mostly still trash.
>>98462736That's actually not terrible. The lifegain lands are hot trash, and the bounce and scry lands are meh, but they didn't onclude a bunch of pure taplands, so that's an improvement.
>>98462736Wow 8 tap lands out of freaking 20 nonbasics, yeah precons are soooo garbage compared to back when they gave you 12 nonbasics all tapped instead! You niggers never paid $40 for a Twilight Mire.
>>98462736You know shit's bad when the Ninja Turtle precon has an above-average manabase just because it had Undergrowth Stadium. The Miku deck could have at least had a Temple Garden kek.
>>98462051There isn't and I don't think there ever will be.
>>98462753The Miku deck is shit because barely any of those lands even have Miku on them. Pretty disappointing, I always thought those Secret Lair decks were supposed to be completely pimped out to excuse the price.
>>98462736thats a pretty decent precon actually. too bad it has some fucking gay anime bullshit on every single cardlike the tidus FFX deck that was good with good art, parted it out for 3 different awesome decks. plus I got a 2nd Sphere Grid in my Collector Sample. but this crap you wouldn't want to be seen dead playing these cards. YIKES
>>98462736Lazotep Quarry is actually kinda based
>>98462771>thats a pretty decent precon actuallyUntil you realize it's 150$ MSRP
It's another episode of "cards are cheap" then posts damaged cards
>>98462783New thread
>>98462779Dude he's calling Miku gay on 4chan of all places, he's just here to argue.
Why do grown men like buying things because it has anime girl on it? I just don't get it.
>>98462786Autism obviously
>>98462786Lonely virgins who have never even talked to a real woman.
>>98462766They have new art for Finale of Devastation and Bountiful Prominade. That's probably all they figured they needed to do to justify the $150 tag to some paypigs. They wouldn't be wrong if so.
>>98462771>NOOOO THEY REPLACED MY MASCULINE GENDER AMBIGUOUS POWERFUL XEMALE WITH A PRETTY FEMININE ANIME GIRL!!!!!!>NOW ILL NEVER BE ABLE TO SELF INSERT!!!ill be playing it solely to watch trannies like you seethe and dilate.you'll never be a woman btw
>>98462792My gf is buying the Miku deck actually, but not me. Now that we all know it's being print to demand this time I'm just gonna buy the inevitable abundant singles.
>>98462753TMNT precon had city of brass in it retard
>>98462805I'd respect MARO if it had city of ass instead
>>98462805>tap for any color deals 1 damage to yourself/tg/ is so fucking dogshit at Magic it's unbelievable sometimes. Not everyone in the world is playing Darien.
>>98462786Because women are property and literally the first commodity invented after food.
>>98462796I just don't want tranime shit in my western fantasy game.
>>98462838western fantasy is sooo much more trooned out nowadays its not even funny. or do I need to link you a bunch of modern mtg art to prove a point?look at secrets of strixhaven for one
>>98462838Hatsune Miku isn't even anime, she's a voice synthesizer.
>>98462692That's not retarded at all. Any good deck should have at least one answer for everything.>theft>board wipes>aggro>voltron>graveyard recursion>burn>exile>etcIf you notice your deck folds to one of those, you're an idiot not to fit in at least one card to deal with it. Relic of Progenitus is one of those great cards you can throw into anything for little opportunity cost. 1 colorless to throw down, and you can tap it at your hearts content doing some damage, and then for 1 mana you can remove all the problems. Best part? It replaces itself. If your deck gets wrecked by graveyard decks, you have to run at least this. There are plenty of cards like this that for a bunch of scenarios that you can put in your decks, and a lot will already synergize with what you're doing.
>>98461903I've been playing Commander for over half my life now lmao. Sorry your LGS sucks ass.
>>98462935>theftYou say this but homeward path might be the most underplayed card in the entire format. It can be run in actually anything yet very few people actually pack it. I know for a fact anons in this general don't use it just based on all the decklist pics I've seen over the years in these threads. Incredibly low opportunity cost card that straight up deletes theft as a viable strategy.
>>98463456I've only found it NECESSARY to run in jon irenicus
I had a REALLY stupid idea in the shower, unfortunately this doesn't work because stickfingers doesn't mill like I thought he did: https://moxfield.com/decks/uIPObD6pdUy4DSoGzNdE6g
>>98463518Thanks for the update anon. Be sure to tell us if anything else occurs to you while bathing
Nobody plays standard anymore due to ub shit. Premodern is rarely played.here because of costs and proxying full deck is just not fun as you dont have that feel of "scarcity" Im preparing for my first edh game and possible dc game. Im trying to build a fractal deck as i recently enjoyed fractals in sos draft i have played. Can you recommend me some cards for simic colors and having this doggo as commander
>>98463664No, but since you brought up 60-card formats, have you tried Pauper? It has some UB, but isn't rife with it.
>>98463456I run that too! Only in decks that are 1 to 2 colors and really rely on the commander or other creatures sticking around to win. Basically to fuck over things like Insurrection which IMO is one of the quickest "I win" cards in the game.
>>98463456I've been wanting to make a Voltron deck but I play with a guy that loves to steal shit, so this is a nice land card i didn't realize existed that can help a bit, thanks anon
