>>98460789I have a bone to pick with non undead players
The arcane ploys are cool, I was worried about the card packs being fomo. But it’s nice that they include a table with the same odds as the card pack so you don’t actually need the card pack to take part in that aspect of the game.
Reposting from last thread in hopes of getting some input. How does this list sound? I had to wrangle points and options to get my spiders and Boars along with a nice mob of boys. Sadly no room for Boar Chariots or Arrer boys, but it seems playable to me.Orc & Goblin Tribes [1996 pts]>Black Orc Warboss, Great weapon, Full plate armour, General, On foot, Spellshield, Ruby Ring of Ruin, Trollhide Trousers - 239>Orc Bigboss, Cavalry spear, Heavy armour, Shield, Battle Standard Bearer [The Big Red Raggedy Flag], War Boar, Da Thinkin' Orc's 'At - 178>Goblin Oddnob, Wizard [Level 3 Wizard],Arachnarok Spider [Spidersilk lobber], Waaagh! So, why do you all play The Old World over Warhammer Armies Project? I'm trying to choose between the two and I am curious about your input.
>>98460805I don't like the black orc warboss on foot. He's too easy to avoid or feed chaff and make him a non factor during the game. He needs a mount imo.
>>98461058Everyone plays TOW around me, there are tournaments every 2-3 weeks. No one plays WAP around me. I really enjoy TOW so I see no need to branch into WAP. Disclaimer I have never tried WAP (but I don't think I ever will because the community is large and lively locally). I think it depends most on what is popular in your area.
The Thane is painted. It should fit well with my metal Ironbreakers.>>98461052Hate you back, ya lanky fucks.
>>98461080Looks fantastic, anon. Great job.
>>98461058I don't play, but if I were to play I'd play whatever the local group does, and at best suggest houserules for my weird shit
>>98461052I too '8 stuntiesI hate 5 for dinner
>>98461080I like how he practiced his pose to look as tall as possible, compensating manlet. In all seriousness he looks great though.
>>98460805Spider is bad (looks cool though). Light cav would be better in 5 blocks than one 10, and aren't worth putting anything but musician on, they're chaff to fuck with charge lanes and nothing more. Mount up the black orc. Add another low level Wiz for improved mag defense. Light armor isn't really worth it on gobs, more bodies is better. In fact, replacing that whole block with night gobs with nets and some fanatics is a better idea.
>>98461134The spider is painfully expensive but I love the Spiders. I went with the larger unit of boars due to upgrading to Big Uns and the magic banner. I was planning on having the unit joined by the BSB for the extra banner buff. Feels like a hard hitting - at least on the charge, tougher unit for smashing the enemy. The General is a very specific miniature and while I would love to toss him on a mount, I planned on having him joined the to Black Orc unit for both practical and narrative reasons. I can see about adding another wizard, does it matter Orc or Goblin? I have forty goblins and a distinct lack of night goblins, but if I drop light armor I can afford the extra ten I was not using. Is trading the 5+ with shields for extra bodies really worth it?
>>98461183Boars can hit hard, the spider riders are the light cav I was referring to.
>>98461197Oh, I did not realize that. The spider riders are just harassment units. Shortbows with razor standard and poison to plink away at things I want to harry. Spears to charge if my Impetuous goes bad or I see something soft enough to take out with them in melee. Seemed like a reasonable idea.
>>98461183What edition is this for specifically? I'm assuming 6th, 7th, or 8th based on your Pic. But generally more bodies is better than going from 6+ to 5+, the extra occasional wound is less valuable than outnumber, ranks, etc.Cut down the cost of the warboss if you're not mounting him up. Or run him as Grimgor, even better. And have the leader upgrade take challenges so you can blender the opposing unit.Orc v Gob for lower level doesn't really matter but I always found Big Waaaaagh spells better personally.
>>98461211The plinking won't do anything of use, not worth upgrading it. You should shoot with them each turn anyways, it's essentially free, but don't expect results. Two units of 5 with magician each will do a better job of harassment and forcing charges that you run from, with occasional side charges from you, than one of ten. That is all they can ever be expected to do, so should stay as cheap as possible.
>>98460705Any good samaritan with fully downloaded torrent from WFB pastebin wanna seed this thing? I can't download some files. Thanks
>want to print out differant sets of armies for battle march>friend likes greenskins and I think goblins are cool but I also own elves>if I print an army of goblins when I play elves I am a mono mega faggot because goblins are scared of elves
Man I hope GW either makes some campagin/warband based skirmish game for old world in the style of mordheim (but not a remake because they would fuck it up)Or hell just jumpstart warcry again with whfb factions mixed in. Like chaos warriors skirmishing for their gods favor is the same here as it would be anywhere else
night goblins coming along
>>98461221Apparently the local groups focus on TOW, but I am basing on the WHFB sizes and using converters in case that changes to 8th or earlier. I'll drop the light armor on the goblins and raise them to forty strong with shields and hand weapons. I can drop the Spellshield on the warboss, but Trousers and Ruby Ring are for narrative purposes. >>98461239Splitting to 2x5 makes sense as does dropping Razor. Would I be running Oddgits with Wolf mounts? The only Goblins to get a non-Arachnarok spider mount are the Big and Warbosses.
>>98461058Old world is what everyone plays, and tbf it's not a bad ruleset. Personally I'm collecting the resources to play Warhammer Renaissance, and will play a few games solo for fun until I can find someone who'll humour me for a game or two when I can walk them through the rules. That being said, the magic phase was one of the big reasons I wanted to play WHR but if the magic stuff in the new arcane journal is any good, that's one less factor to jump to WHR.

>>98461058Because, unironically, new thing.Armies project is better than TOW in almost every way. If Armies Project would incorporate the FBIGO, Give Ground, Break mechanics (and then make them better) it would be 100% better. All the armies are FULLY supported, you have army lists that incorporate every fucking unit in the games history, DoW, Vamp Coast, Araby, Cathay, expanded Storm of Chaos forces, all the FW units, a TASTEFUL incorporation of CERTAIN AoS units (certain Sylvaneth units, new Lizardmen, etc), it's so much better it's not even funny.
>>98461449I want the new custom lords.
Two years late, but I just read Lords of the Lance out of curiosity and wow that sure fucking sucked. I genuinely think I could write better fanfiction than this fucking novel. This flopped right? That's why we haven't gotten more Old World novels
>>98461449I go back and forth on soup or notI like the idea of a mix force under the banner of a single god. Like khorngors would probably march with warriors of khorne before they'd want to march with slaangorsBut if you mix them up the armies lose a bit of cohesion and identity. Even for "chaos"
>>98461493It's more a case of official thing than new thing
>>98461529IDK if it flopped sales wise, probably did well because it was the only Fantasy novel in like 10+ years. But we know from the changes they make that GW 100% reads online opinions and feedback and acts on it, so they know it's widely hated. I remember Jordan Sorcery even interviewed the author and 80% of the comments section were shitting on the book lol.
>>98461493does it use the bigger base sizes? can could I get away with larger bases?Like imma be real I hate gw but upping the sizes helps rank shit easier, especially cavalry. A rare gw W
>>98461529Yeah. It was trash and everyone knows it. Naturally, to GW this means that clearly no one wants any novels for TOW and we'll never get another
>>98461529Does it suck for reasons beyond EWWWW FEMALE KOTR NOOOO?All I ever heard was 'its SJW WOKE SHIT' and nothing about the story or writing. Is it just badly written? McNeil has written decent (for BL) stuff before
>>98461541If both you and your opponent agree, it doesn't matter. You will never play in a Warhammer Armies Project tournament. So just use the bigger base sizes from TOW
>>98461548It is incredibly poorly written. The most bland story about a crusade to an undead homeland you can imagine
>>98461548McNeill wrote my favourite 40k book (Storm of Iron) and LoL doesn't hold a candle to it. It's incredibly bland and uninteresting, disrespects established lore about Bretonnians besides being "woke" if that is something any prospective readers care about. The worst part about it is the missed potential.
>>98461548The Knights use bows. No respect for the lore not even mentioning the woke shit.
>>98461270didn't have a photo because i was in bed when i posted that but here's a photo, i'm waiting for some bits to arrive to make the crew
>>98461586There’s no potential between bretonians and tomb kings to begin with, they’re boring as sin for a reason.
>>98460794>If I can find a metal shaggoth ill probably consider rebuilding an army again. No you would not, they are not rare and not that expensive, of you wanted ome and build that army you would have by now.
>>98461601 I disagree. I think there's a ton of stuff about Bretonnian society that could be explored, and would make for an interesting heroic fantasy novel. This book does not even try to do it.
>>98461612>$100 for a single model>Not expensive.Even with a well paying job, it is something to hesitate on.
>>98461600Nice. Reminds me of one of the Warhammer Online cinematics.
>>98461614Bretonians already have their internals figured out, there’s nothing to expand on. Nothing that doesn’t make them gayer at least.
>>98461637If it's something you really want as part of your collection, a fat hundo is still well within the realm of normalcy. I spent that much on a single (well, 3, but I only wanted one) Realm of Chaos champion. It's not like you're spending $500 on an Egrimm van Horstmann model, you know? And really, what else are you going to use that money for?
>>98461678>And really, what else are you going to use that money for?
>>98461601>There’s no potential You're retarded and not worth engaging with. I'm only doing it now to let you know as a courtesy.
>>98461637>Hesitate on spending $100,- You may be in the wrong hobby. Or just lurk the various local online market places for a lucky deal, ebay prices are always inflated. I know it's 40k And it was some sort of creditcard fraud, but I paid €100,- for an armorcast Eldar titan with all the extra parts trough marketplace. [/Spoiler]
>>98461637>>98461747Organizing the ads as oldest first can also get you some nice deals. If people make a typo in the title it will get burried by new ads and won't show up in search results, people think it is hard to sell and will accept your lowball or if it was not expensive anyway, just buy it.
>>98461747Not him but the single most expensive model I ever bought on ebay for Fantasy was getting a new in box 6th ed Louen Leoncoeur for $250.In my defense, I did have a $100 gift card...Still have him in box. I'll bust him out when I'm confident my painting skills have improved enough to be worth it.
>>98461756I managed to get an old Woof Elf Battalion box for next to nothing because of this. Was labelled "Warhamner" and had offers on it. Always try to look for mislabelled stuff is my best advice for deals.
>>98461761I think that my forgeworld spartan is the most money I spend on a single model. The most stupid (in game vallue terms) is a forgeworld mk-IIb land raider with extra armour, that totaled more than two basic plastic land raiders and it is still just a land raider. In my defense, we were running a boot at a convention and we had so much cash coming in. >>98461771There's lots more things to find good deals, that titan for example was pick up only, those always seem to be slow sellers.
>>98461702Posting a .gif of an overweight child turning his head is not a response.
>>98461548>Does it suck for reasons beyond EWWWW FEMALE KOTR NOOOO?Yeah, it's pretty underwritten; like the villains are incredibly poorly explained, even though they specifically targeted this Border Prince and Brettoin Duke it's left ambiguous as to why.The characters are all very stock to the point were i already guessed their character arc after a paragraph. It also has a bad climax that doesn't feel like a proper climax, if that makes sense.
Do ogres work well in battle march?Few expensive models save a shit ton of money to get to high point values but can be a bitch at low levels
>>98461805I won a bit of money from a hockey game 50-50 so I bought an Armorcast Reaver Titan and a Mastodon. I'm a fucking retard and I regret it but they are coolodels
>>98461805I also find fantasy stuff ofcourse. Pic is my von Horstmann pains €45,- shipped. Inb4 troon, that was painted in 2015 when that was not invented yet. I must search my old phone for the pic but sometimes I wonder if I caused all that BS, Tzeentch must be pleased
>>98461859The old armorcast stuff is so charming. Sometimes I'm still sad I did not buy that warhound when it came up for sale, I think it was €250,- Wich is a great price but I don't have endless money so I can't have All the cool things.
>>98461880Yes, the pictures were also taken in 2015. Maybe I should make some new ones bit the colorscheme kinda sour'd on me. But I will not repaint him.
>>98460747NTA but he is completely right. Rank and flank games work very well as IGOUGO.
Just snagged 20 Arrer boys for a good price. Happy.
>>98462245I am strongly considering picking up a wood elf battalion for the future while they are still around.
>>98462249I plan on grabbing a second Orc and Goblin Battalion and possibly a Beasts Battalion if it is a reasonable price next payday. I highly recommend grabbing extras if you will use them.
>Mark of Chaos has Skeleton Archers.>WHFB and TOW do not. This blows.
>>98462307What are you talking about? They literally do
>>98462309Generic, non-Tomb King archers. I should have said I wanted the dudes from Mark of Chaos.
>>98462325Those are generic archers. The only thing that makes them tomb kings is a small upgrade sprue. But the base skeleton kit is from the VC skeletons of the 90’s
>>98461940I hate that there is no opportunities to play Warhammer at this scale of grandeur.
>>98461940Tfw you'll never dress up in lore-accurate garments as you oversee a huge battlefield of miniatures soldiers, ready to lead them to a glorious victory as some sort of benevolent god.

>>98462401Im working towards that. It's a long term project I've been workingon since 2019, but by 2030-2032 i should be able to host a siege game using 8th ed with all of my painted dwarfs (1500+ miniatures) defending their hold against anyone's entire collection. No points limit or book limitations. As long as its painted and based, you can field it.This can also include custom units and charactes, anything that will make the game look good.I think that i should probably be able to have 30-40k points once all is said and done. My opponent can field as many points as he wants - again, given that's painted and based-
>>98462437Based. Do you have any pics to share? >>98462413
>>98462418You have PDS
>>98462440I post here from time to time. Pic related is the army as of December 2025. I have painted 103 more dwarfs since then, and am hoping to finish at least another 50 or 60 before the end of the year.I did 20 in january, finished 30 in april, then starting in May I begun to paint every day (mostly 1 hour per day during lunch at work). I focus on batches of 12 dwarfs and i can crank through them at a good pace without ever feeling to overwhelmed or burned out. Consistency is king and doing a bit every day really pays off.I will eventually start on a castle proper and some terrain, maybe even a dedicated table set up, with sculpted mountain sides and mine entrances...
>>98462540So fucking based. Only true hobbyist ITT! It would be awesome if you would provide us updates from time to time

>>98461940>IGOUGOIs tired. Embrace simultaneous planning.
>>98462577No idea what that even means desu
>>98461940I think you're right. A lot of second rate writers working in the fantasy space thinking about mechanics that are trendy rather than mechanics to serve the theme.>>98462401If I were going to do Warhammer in the grand manner I'd borrow a lot from the Warlord Warmaster derived rulesets but with less crazy movement, say 6" for each move order for infantry and 9" for cavalry. So 18" of movement for a lucky order for infantry. Could do it on a 6' or 8' deep table without too much worry. A lot of historicals players dislike them with good reason but they'd be a good start for this. More generous movement allows for more terrain, it still has an effect but it's no longer so punishing.Add in some magic, the ability to tinker with characters in the way Warhammer players like, magic items etc. Minor characters to buff units such as wights or warrior priests, or Wizards that don't necessarily have a leadership role in controlling groups of units.Doctrines to differentiate armies. Orcs have lower leadership but an advantage for simple orders like going straight at the enemy, think those were already rules for barbarians but my group expanded those to medievals.
>>98462566I already kind of do. Sometimes. Currently working on these skullpass dwarfs. i started them for the Lead adventure forum anniversary as well as the August painting competition somebody started here. After these guys are done i have 95 or so EM4 dwarfs primed and based. I'm kind of dreading them, but once finished, that will be a non-insignificant portion of my backlog completed.
>>98462603I think warhammer could benefit from set unit sizes/unit foot prints a la Kings of War. But then i guess it would need a rework of model-removal so maybe not...If i could change one thing alone; I'd probably say that any edition of warhammer would be much improved by going down to a 15mm scale.
>>98462621I disagree that's too small. But I think a 15mm Warmaster revival would be very cool.
>>98462621Individual casualty removal would be the sacred cow I'd kill for large scale Warhammer. Character differentiation and customisation, magic banners for units, thats one a lot of people do try and kill off but I think it would be a step too far for a lot of people and it is a source of great enjoyment.
Had a fun casual game against a chaos force with my Beastmen at 1500 points. We got the flank attack scenario and it was a really fun game with lots of dice shenanigans that made the outcome of the game very uncertain. In the end I managed to get out on top and secured a victory for my beasts.
>>98462705Here’s a closer look at the army itself.
>>98462621>>98462670Model removal is kind of retarded when you think about it. There is a reason most large scale games multibase, and that is because in battle most people aren't killed, they rout. Most large scale games leave all the models on the base and measure the damage the unit has taken by using casualty models, which is very thematic and visually pleasing, or by counters, until the unit routs. Also you spend so much time painting your models (or, you should) so its also pleasant to keep them on the table as long as possible. Casualty removal really is unsightly when it gets to the point you have this large empty base with 4 guys standing on what looks like a huge sheet of cardboard on the battlefield.
>>98462357I think he means for vampire counts/generic undead. Its purely absent for retarded "balancing" reasons.
>>98462708Kino, I love your albino paint scheme. Looks fantastic on the beasts. >>98462721>Model removal is kind of retarded when you think about itMaybe this isn't the game/place for you if you feel that way. >>98463589My bad anon. I made that comment because i had a 10 minutes argument with my opponent last game specifically over a large table. He complained that the table we were using wasnt "legal size".
>>98463782The ones listed in the book (page 285) is just the minimum table sizes. You can play a 1000p game on a 72" x 90" table if you want, tell your opponent to get some reading comprehension next time.
>>98463304It's current year +11, anon, you can just come out as gay, no one's gonna care. Though with how awful your opinions are maybe they'll just beat you to death as soon as you step out the closet, idk.
>>98462721After playing KoW I definitely agree, at least at the size ToW is played at. Honestly everyone should play KoW a come times. It's eye opening from a game design perspective. When you remove a bunch fiddly elements that don't add much to the game you can condense a 3 hour WHFB into 30 minutes. I might keep individual casualty removal for games around 500 points life Battle March.
He's right, templates should go away. And be replaced with new, bespoke ones.
>>98463122Have you actually played the game? Small bits of terrain have outsized impacts on play. A little fence can fuck up a charge. A few trees dictate the flow of an entire flank etc.

So GW must have had no plans to introduce cathay when TOW launched, right? And then when it did well they unscrapped the work they had done back when they were going to be a release faction and hurried them out?I say this because when TOW launched they went out of their way to frame Tomb Kings as the big villain and Settra's attacks as the main conflict, that vampires were sleeping and chaos hadn't yet mustered for the great war. But then Cathay comes out and now its chaos this and chaos that because they're a much better opponent for Cathay than Skeletor would be.
>>98464099>right?wrong
>>98464040I think both lists are perfectly acceptable. I also think you won't get any relevant or helpful advice from this thread. Play both, see what happens!Don't remove the AoMI.
>>98464099cathay released only a year and a half into tow's lifespan anon, there's no way they had "no plans to introduce cathay when tow launched".I can believe they moved up their release a bit, but they were always coming.
>>98464099With how much of the lore is now fully centred on Cathay I refuse to believe this wasn't planned. Cathay are running the show now.
>>98463952Based fellow female bray-shaman enjoyed.
>>98463976I can dig it.>>98464099>they're a much better opponent for Cathay than Skeletor would be.Skeletons literally do not make it past the Chinese sensitivity readers. So Cathay will never meaningfully interact with TK or VC.
>>98464099>So GW must have had no plans to introduce cathay when TOW launched, right?Yes. One of the first articles on their community site after the launch of TOW even said something like "we currently have no plans to release cathay or kislev" even though both factions were present in the rule book with their own lore sections. The quick release of cathay just one year later also suggests they had already developed cathay but had seemingly no intention of releasing them, at that time. Many think the reason was, because GW management didn't believe in TOW. They didn't even properly hype up the launch of TOW, which was in a January, a highly unusual month for a new game release. Here is the article, I mentioned:https://www.warhammer-community.com/en-gb/articles/GIi2Rgcm/total-war-warhammer-3-reinforcements-arrive-en-masse/
>>98464047Understood and as you can tell, its not competitive anyway, just more or less keep the armour for my general or more boyz.>>98464105A shame because I just did get something helpful from this thread. I was just wondering abiut the AoMI really or more bodies and you answered it. Thanks boss.
>>98464130>So Cathay will never meaningfully interact with TKThey did, when the Nehekarans were still alive. Dragon emperor got spooked by nagash though.
>>98464040Take the meteoric iron, start playing with a fully painted army sooner, then swap the iron for more boyz once you have them painted up. Keep staircasing up the points brackets like this.
>>98464134Between Cathay being an originally intended launch army and the work they did on the faction for total war, I'm sure they had it almost fully complete but just didn't want to inject cash into making it into plastic until after TOW did well and people began asking for it. I think that at least explains the quick turnaround
The new warriors look nice but why is GW creating two parallel iterations of the same model range?
>>98464134I think this is mostly correct. I'm still convinced that 9(?) month drought we just went through is because GW were completely unprepared for how successful TOW was, then they said "the scope of the game has increased" in that article, then Cathay started being released, and then nothing for months. I think they blew their year's release pipeline in order to capitalise on the TOW hype.
>>98464158Because they're expressing 2 different design concepts and ideas. AoS has the SoC aesthetic, TOW now has the 5th edition aesthetic. They're not the same and if you don't like one of them, you can use the other.Nothing will ever surpass the actual 5th edition warriors for me, but it is what it is.

has anyone actually used building ruleslike actually occupying a building, defensive position, etc. i've never seen it used or heard it being used, just buildings as impassible terrain. the rules seem pretty fun with different versions and unique buildings
I’m considering starting TOW, but I’m stuck between starting with WoC or VC. What’re the pros/cons of each?
>>98464267I have in a few games with my beastwomen. It can be really fun. Dark ruins and towers are both interesting things to work around as strategic locations and produce more interesting battles. Regular buildings are fun to destroy too.
>>98463983It's too late. The bellend has been cut. My herd has a 0 girlcock policy
I just ignore the existence of bug people aka Cathayans. Fuck Asians.
>>98464299WoC is a real faction that gets support from GW and VC isn't.
>>98464299The warriors of chaos have the largest and most varied pool of models to pick from. You have almost 40 years of options, make of that what you will. Gameplay-wise, they're pretty lame. Not bad in terms of power or competitive viability, mind you, but the army isn't fun right now.Chaos magic has been reduced to 4 spells, 3 of which require a 10 point tax in the form of a mark of Chaos to be used. Blue Fire and Fleshy Abundance are the only good ones, and even then, now that Daemon Princes have been nerfed to oblivion for no good reason, FA sucks. Acquiescence could be fun, but why bother? Winds of Chaos does not synergize with how the army wants to play at all. Chaos sorcerers are overpriced for what they do (but then again, this has always been the case), daemon princes are no longer a viable or fun option, and despite the Infernal Puppet being a very powerful and oppressive anti-casting magic item, Chaos just isn't a magic army anymore.Marks are either utterly worthless (Khorne, Slaanesh, though Slaanesh briefly had a place before Chaotic Traits were added to the game), bland and only good on dragon-riding lords, though now largely trash since the changes to Poisoned Attacks (Nurgle) or powerful while also being immensely restrictive and unfun to play with (Tzeentch). I have nothing nice to say about the Chaos magic items, the Chaotic Traits, or the Chaos Gifts. As for your units, anything that isn't a chaos lord/exalted champion on a dragon or a daemonic mount (DM is a fairly recent innovation due to the buffs + daemon princes being functionally removed from the game), a forsaken, a marauder horseman, a chosen knight, a dragon ogre (though with the recent changes even these might not be worth taking now that you're forced to bring 2 of them instead of just 1 upgraded to a Shartak), a gigantic chaos spawn, or a warpfire dragon is actively a detriment to your chances of winning. Sorcerers are also okay sometimes.
>>98464299VC is a real faction with fan support. If you go WC your stuck with whatever shitty rules James comes up with.
>>98464158Apparently GW is split in two main departments, the one that manages AoS, 40k, and related stuff like kill team and warcry, and the one that manages TOW, HH, blood bowl and necromunda. The budgets for the two departments are separate and depend on how the products of those departments sell, and accounting becomes hell if stuff produced by one department is also usable to play the game of another. And that means that GW requires AoS and TOW to have exclusive products, and since chaos is important for both, they've reached the conclusion that they're both going to have a range of chaos undivided, somehow separating the aesthetics a bit.For now that means that TOW has norscan looking marauders and 4th ed inspired warriors, while AoS has 'conan' looking marauders and 6th edition inspired warriors, but allegedly chaos undivided is going to be in the starter set of aos 5th edition next year, and that could mean that their warriors could be changed again, and maybe more dramatically this time, one option is that they would follow the space-marine-esque design cues of their chosen and varanguard instead of the ones of 6th ed warriors.
>>98464371While I’m not super concerned about gameplay viability, hearing that daemon princes are shitty sucks. If I went WoC route, I was gonna fluff up a lord seeking ascension and as my army grew in size I’d replace him with a prince model. It’s all still a ways off as I need to finish what I’m working on first so I’ll wait and see until then, but I’ll likely keep my eyes on WoC over VC then

They asked about Kislev first – which already had a fair amount of units described, and even designed – but a few of us got together and had fun concepting some new units. >They came back to us in 2019 and asked if they could tackle Grand Cathay. With something so embedded in the background of the Old World, and yet so mysterious, we told them we’d need to design the whole thing ourselves to ensure it was accurate to the setting.>Mark: We actually started before we knew that Warhammer: The Old World was coming back as a game – but we treated the whole project as you would any other new army, starting the work almost from scratch!>Owen: Rules-wise, even though we'd already begun work on Warhammer: the Old World by the point it was needed, we did a lot of work on them using the rules from the eighth edition of Warhammer Fantasy Battles – including a full set of unit profiles. This was to give Creative Assembly the context they needed to fit Grand Cathay into Total War, which is based on that edition of the game.

AoSfag here. Should I buy the Starter set if I am going to buy the whole new Chaos Warrior range anyway? Or it would be cheaper to wait for individual set releases?
I think this is the first AJ that actually feels like it’s worth a buy outside army specific ones. Not only did they actually add significant mechanics and items but the lore sections feel very much like old army book stuff. The dark tongue alphabet is great.
>>98465231The Core set is going to be much cheaper if you're getting all that stuff as well
>>98464774The point is that they changed the fluff so that the guy putting in a female character was following rather than subverting it. Also said guy has form, he also did female(and female nignog) Empire Knights in a previous article.Bretonnians are, as a hyper-patriarchal medieval society focused on lineage, explicitly sexist. The Empire is an agrarian/proto-urban renaissance society with patrilineal succession. There is no rational reason for female warriors to exist as anything more than an incredibly rare curiosity, for female leaders to exist at all outside of organisations that are exclusively female or ones that sidestep all normal requirements of leadership eg magic users, and certainly no reason for ~10% of their militaries to be ethnic minorities. And yes, those things still matter in a fantasy world because unless you're an uncritical, uncaring slopsumer paypiggy who just wants to have an unending succession of pointless keys jangled in front of your face until your worthless life ends, verisimilitude and consistency matter. If you're going to deviate from the established tropes, themes, and inspirations of your chosen genre you have to *at minimum* actually explain how the changes work and why they exist from an in-setting perspective. Of course they do none of that because there is no in-setting justification for any of it, it's all pure unfiltered DEIslop peddled by talentless Gender Studies parasites who're making these changes exactly because they make no sense in-context.
Do you prefer the game or the video game?
>>98465239Bretonians aren’t real and even then the core of their lore is dogshit so who cares
>>98465231It’s going to be slightly cheaper to buy individually if you are just buying the models and don’t want to try to sell Cathay for cheap for a discount. If you are buying to play TOW then the WoC stuff+rulebook is already a savings so it’s definitely worth it.Probably makes the most sense to buy the box either way and then sell the Cathay stuff (and the book if you aren’t playing fantasy) for cheap.

>>98465239Anon, its "his" models (dont know if it actually is, although it could well be literally a personal collection). It was always "allowed", he could have had a lizardman leading them if he wanted. Thats how that works. Would it have been strictly canon? No, would it stop him? Also no, he would have simply said "yea, in my lore the bretonnians found a saurus they believe is blessed by the lady and hes going along with it" or whatever.>Also said guy has form, he also did female(and female nignog) Empire Knights in a previous article. So clearly the guy likes doing it. >There is no rational reason for female warriors to exist as anything more than an incredibly rare curiosityCool. And? >muh versimilitude and consistency, a honda civic is out of place, etcNot even wrong. But once again irrelevant to "some guy decided to stick a SoB head onto his models". Some warcom writer is not the guy writing the lore, hes simply a guy building and painting his models how he wants. And I would honestly be shocked if hes the first person to have a "bretonnian duchess" instead of a duke. >who're making these changes exactly because they make no sense in-context.Given theres a million other changes they could make that would also not make sense, im going to go and guess the reason for those changes isnt "they make no sense".
>>98465274Some BL books are absolute fucking heaters that stand up to any other popular fantasy novel. The overwhelming majority are terrible. It's a sad state of affairs.
>>98465246This is also stupid. If you dont care, whats even the point of warhammer? Theres better games from a purely mechanical perspective. Caring is the entire point.
>>98465294>Some warcom writer is not the guy writing the loreim pretty sure Dave the guy who being discussed here is one of the main TOW writers along with JTY since he shows up in all the TOW Almanack articles. So he is, in fact, writing the lore

>>98465239I would absolutely read a book about a Bretonnian woman who disguises herself as a knight because she wants to avoid an arranged marriage (or some other reason idk) because Bretonnia is a hyper-patriarchal society. GW doesn't put in the effort required to make an actually interesting character because they hate their customer base and instead we get Lords of the Lance. FUCK.
>>98465324I stopped watching because the faggots keep talking in circles. Just post the screenshots.
>>98463910The cuck just couldn't help himself. I assume GW hires these losers because they have no life outside of work and are too big of pussies to ask for greater than or equal industry standard salary.they don't credit artist anymore, because the artist can't take the criticism.
>>98465350It's still pretty easy to find current artists that GW hires, it's really the Rules and fluff writers that have become completely anonymous
>>98463921>I'm pretty sure the Tom Renolds series is only 10+ years oldKnight Errant: Released in 2008. 18 years ago. Feel old yet?
>>98465334>HoC is backNoice
Are maruaders good? I like woc and norsemen but I had a stupid idea for a maruader themed army of people who are way too obsessed with Bethesda games. Like the maruaders think that Skyrim was the best elderscrolls, and the mutants are people who think that starfield isnt boring
I mean when peeps make OC Donut Steel characters back in the day, or in this games case, possibly regiments and armies too, they often did so that the character was special, not the norm. And FB has plenty of established norms. The problem is how many peeps are trying to turn the special into normal, including forcing you to accept it or throwing a tantrum in the process. And out of all the FB factions and nations, you would have to try pretty damn hard to do anything outside of the norm in Brettonia which is infamously comical in its culture. As opposed to the Empire or Ogres who are much more cosmopolitan relatively, especially based on province.
>>98465334Do we know what cultists are exactly yet?
>>98465334
>>98465382>the mutants are people who think that starfield isnt boringTruely a fantastical concept. That game is so ass when I watch people play it, I get the urge to read a book
>>98465393There on that right now but they're just cheap chaff
>>98465334>no jabberslythenoooooo that was gonna be the centerpiece of my mixed tzeentch army
>>98465398>>98465334No marked beastmen?
>>98465405Lmao, I didn't even know such people existed
>>98465418I’m surprised warriors kept marks to begin with
>>98465434Free magic item bray shamans get. I'm ok with that, gives an opening for experimentation.
>>98465334Really? No Centigor? No harpies? No forsaken or beastman chariots or razorgors? Pretty damn stingy list.
>>98465415>>98465451No preyton or cockatrice either.
>>98465460The preyton and GSC and so on I dont mind not having, theyre arcane journal units and lean towards the "special". The hellcannon is also missing and thats fine. But some omissions are pretty egregious.
>>98465334>cool concept murdered by overly conservative rules and restricrtionsYou love to see it. I get soup is strong, but really? 33% mandatory core, 2 mandatory units, the same godawful mark requirement as HoD and on top of it all its missing half the units from either army? Seriously: look at special, notice anything? Like the complete lack of beasman units?
>>98465334Sadly this is still one of the more interesting armies of infamy
>>98465469I want to like the cultists but they really feel like something tacked on.
>>98465487Oh 100%. Its one of the few that does something big with how an army plays, rather than just being "you get buffs to a strategy". What other lists even do that? Bretonnian exiles? Nomadic Waagh? >>98465495They needed to be cheaper, worse, and have more options. Like let them have shields, spears and so on. That way they can actually represent varied cultists. As is they overlap too much with marauders.
>>98465501Why is GW alergic to good magic weapons? Why is it just the frontier axe and then the two cathay ones? The flail of wrecks is pretty decent I guess.
i want to adventure in warhammer fantasy yeah it would be cool and fun
>>98465530I'd join you along for the ride.
>>98465528SDS think gimmick Magic items are more interesting
>>98465547In a way they are. Or rather: Yes, its good that the common magic items arent as dominant as they were in say 8e, where you would just have everyone take the ogre blade and so on instead of their army stuff. The issue is that the army special weapons also kinda suck. Theyre trying too hard to avoid powercreep and in return making items you simply cant care about.
>>98465334>>98465501
This is you.
Have they got to the bit of the book that's about building your chaos champion/beastlord? I wanna know what that's about.
>>98465565yes
>>98465504ambushing 2h weapons skirmishers overlap marauders? in what fucking world?
>>98465501The sword of reaving, flail of wrecks, grim verdict, hunter's scorn, armour of dark faith, scale of false promise, banner of the dark heart = butt-ass, horrible items, will probably never be used in a game everthe two talismans are pretty neat. Niche, but fun. The standard of the fell warrior is essentially 15 points and the opportunity cost of not taking a different banner to give a unit the Drilled rule. That's pretty okay, theoretically.
>>98465570Marauders also skirmish and ambush? As do gors actually for that matter (although gors are obviously much better than either).
>>98465415Just ask your friend if it's ok with you running that model in the list
>>98465562
>>98465558I love the ring of doom, the rod of might, and the infernal familiar. Doombolt is an awful spell, but it's also my favourite magic missile in the entire game. Any excuse to potentially cast it 3 times on a single character per turn is a welcome addition to the game.
Do you have any Asur artwork to give to me?
>>98465581Only if you buy the options, for 9 fucking points per model. Cultists are 6pts with built ambush bonus
>>98465604I dont have it anymore but one of my favorite images was a high elf army on march over some perilis cliffs. In fact 2 images of thatOn looked like pencil sketch and one was more modern
>>98465579>flail of wrecksIs good. Its one handed, insanely good stats for the cost (on the charge), AP2 even when you arent charging, and the downside is essentially "-1 initiative after a round of combat" which you often dont care about on characters. The weapon could say "strikes last" and it would still be solid. Its definetly the best generic magic weapon by far.>scale of false promise+1T and +1W for 35pts is solid. Stupidity is bad but most characters have high LD. Not a must take, but will have its users. >>98465558The demon blood steed is unironically usable. In particular its good for demonic steed chaos lords, makes them a whopping m9. Bonus points for if youre MoK and end up with a 4 attacks s6 steed.
>>98465562I wish my peepee was this big ...
>>98465611I assume these are banned in "competetive" play? Because what do you mean 3w ws6 guy for 90pts? In WOC? What do they think this is, bretonnia?
>>98465604I'll share a few pieces I have.

>>98465657Imagine being a chaos lord, thinking yourself invincible when some imbred French peasant kills you with a lucky shot because their lord paid for them to half a few coals
>>98465604A big ass folder of it.
Loving this new ruleset tbf. For a few reasons actually>Makes magic more interesting>Makes miscasts way more fun>Gives opposing wizards their own in-game power struggle>The rules are optional (an actual pro-consumer move from GW in current year, can you believe it)>The swinginess of some new rules, the variety of rules options to now pick from, the far greater amount of random chance stuff, is all going to make touneyfags seethe, which is a treat all of its ownBy Gork I'm now even slightly hopeful they'll bring back animosity in some form
Thank you so much:)
>>98465700Unfff those hips. Oh and I see the Everqueen is there too.
>>98465614I'll be completely honest, I misread that blurry text as saying that it would lower the wielder's initiative TO 1, not BY 1. My bad. Yeah, the flail is probably pretty good. However, I completely disagree with you regarding the scale of false promise. Stupidity is bad. Very bad. It's not worth it, ever.

This AJ is the first AJ I will be buying and not pirating. It looks like they actually put a lot of effort and thought into it. I didn’t think I would say this about a GW rules release in 2026 but good fucking job GW. Keep up the good work.
>>98465754Oh yeah sorry I should have made clear I know that, I was considering house ruling the FBIGO mechanics into an older edition until these magic updates came along (I still might). But I think it's fair to say that the majority of people don't think that way, and having to buy 4 different books with mandatory rules just to play the game and/or keeping up with mandatory rules updates every few weeks when most of us take months to finish an army has killed other systems and editions. Nice to see a departure from that for once.
>>98465805Appreciating this so far. Thank you.
>>98465847It’s meh. Magic changes are nice enough but I can see them being figured out soon enough. I think there was a lot more effort that could have been put into the book overall, but I haven’t touched my chaos army in a while and this book isn’t really gonna get me to change that. I might eventually play a game sometime before this year ends I guess.
>>98465871The magic changes broadly show that they are looking at feedback and implementing changes based on it. This AJ is genuinely amazing if for that only.
>>98465334>Beastmen with marauder horsemen instead of retarded drunken centaursNeat
>>98465871>>98465936QRD? Im at work so cant listen to shit.
>>98465968One of the chief complaints of TOW has been that magic was underdeveloped, maybe even boring. Now we have two optional expansions (a dice pool or a card deck to augment your wizards' abilities), a set of wizard vs wizard magical ploys, a much more dangerous miscast table (mandatory if you use the dice or the cards, or available if you want to use it with regular magic). Freshens magic up quite a bit. Plus semi-hordes of chaos, build your own chaos champion, new gifts, new magic items. Decent all round imo.
>>98465847>>98465936>>98465986Yeah the magic stuff feels like it came out of a future 2e it's so expansive. Rare GW W
>>98465986Ill have to check it out when I get home. Is there a release date?
>>98465558Scale of False Promises could be unreal on a beefy hero like a Big Boss. +1T and +1 Wound for 35??? Steal, even with stupidity.
>>98466010Goes up for pre order on Saturday, releases 2 weeks from Saturday.
>>98465558wait a secondthe flail is actually retarded goodyou can give a chaos lord the flail of wrecks, the pendant of damnation, and the periapt of soul exchange with enough points left over for one favour of the gods
>>98466014Even better, Gorebulls can take it with gnarled hide. Baller as fuck monster.
>>98466038On a manticore it does seem like it would be excellent.
Are these changes to the magic system for everyone or just WoC Please spoon feed me thank you.
>>98465614>+1T and +1W for 35pts is solid. Stupidity is bad but most characters have high LD. Not a must take, but will have its users.some units have veteran, so you can embed the character into it to reroll stupidity. If you have ld 8 or 9 as well, then its extremely unlikely to fail, although it can still happen
>>98466070Channelling is for all magic users, but dwarfs can't really interact with it at allArcane magic applies to every army in the game, even ones with no casters
>>98466067You can't give a manticore-riding lord the pendant of damnation, it would have to be a lord on a a daemonic mount.
>>98466070Everyone. Except dwarfs. But also partially dwarfs.
>>98466073The beastmen characters also have warband.
>>98466076You assume I and my opponent know how to read, which is clearly a big presumption on your part
>>98465334Daemon bros?
>paragraph of flavor text for each ployThis was unironically my biggest complaint about TOW. With most flavor text being reduced to 1 sentence. Still the case for magic items in this AJ, but I guess it's a problem of not having enough space in the 48 pages. I live for this shit.
New miscast table (mandatory if you're using any of the new magic stuff)
Still no Sylvania WHFRPG pdf?I miss you pastebinanon my love.
>>98466127Cygors are so... well not back since they never really ever made it here before. But they finally have arrived!
>>98465382Yes, as a basic, brick infantry block. In fact, throughout the games history, they are considered the superior choice over the iconic warriors in game performance. Not due to superior stats but significantly cheaper while also being respectable in combat and durability.
>>98465382Marauders are meta, much better than warriors. Also there is a good marauder themed army of infamy that adds more units like Berzerkers to them.
>>98466217He will come back he always does
Would this look out of place on a dual weilding warboss?
>>98466394it would probably look overdesigned, if your problem is representing what the model technically has in terms of rules, then you can just keep the shield on the back
>>98466399Imagine this guy with a shield on his other arm. I am split because the shield arm is a little too tucked in for my liking.
>>98466073Yea, that too. Its not some OP "everyone is running this forever" item, but its 100% something you can and will see ran as a "this makes your character a good bit tankier" option.
>>98465710>I misread that blurry text as saying that it would lower the wielder's initiative TO 1, not BY 1I mean, imagine you were right: It would be a (slightly) better version of "strikes last", a rule that - at least from my experience - is not that big a deal. Maybe its because I play chaos and chaos has tanky characters, but frankly a lot of the time i1 literally does not matter, while S+2 Ap2 MW(2) absolutely does.
>diet Hordes of Chaos means I can put some pestigors in with my Nurgle WarriorsNeat, assuming my Warriors ever get delivered I’m going to fucking snap holy fuck
Rolled 1 (1d15)>>98465622I have to wonder popular really is Bretonnia.I know that they hadn't received an Armybook (or any sort of support) since 6th, and GW put a lot of effort on them during early-TOW; but was it really worth it?
>>98465622Thank you for this. I have some knights left that I will roll for their backstories and colors
>>98463952what model anon?
>>98464371>MoN>not uselessAnon the only good mark is MoS. MoT is ok for sorc bunkers or for fucking over Tomb Kings but thats it. MoN is only better than MoK due to the way frenzy got changed and even then its not good.
>>98465611Why would you ever take the other characters over these? Even the Chaos lord looks like shit vs this dude for most of the stuff.
>>98466615They will probably be banned in matchplay as they are not really built for that
>>98462725>Maybe this isn't the game/place for you if you feel that way. Instead of trying to change a game so fundamentally that has been one way for the past 30 years, go find a game that suits your tastesThis is an entirely retarded and narrow mindset to have. Warhammer is completely unrecognizable compared to 1, 2nd, 3rd etc. edition and countless mechanics has been overhauled or changed over the decades. Antiquated and clunky rules SHOULD be changed, and individual model removal is chief amongst them. If you hate change they you should not be playing TOW, you should be playing 1st edition.

>>98466773I got their foot knights on 28mm and I'm happy with them
>>98466784Thanks, reposted in the new thread with the roll fixed, but glad I checked here.
>>98466665I suspect tons of diehard TOW players could never bring themeselves to play a game of, say, 3rd edition. I think the vast majority of people (not necessarily reflected here on wfg) won't even consider playing a version of the game that's not sanctioned by GW.
>>98463122Well, he's playing Beasts of Chaos versus Warriors of Chaos, so it's not like there's a need to block LOS to deter shooting.A little scatter terrain can still be maneuvered around to preemptively foil a charge, but you don't need much for that.Consider it a table garnish.
>>98461529Yeah pretty much everyone but the most braindead fanboys agree it's complete goyslop for pigs. My favourite bit is how McNeill didn't even bother to do the most basic reading on what TOW was and completely forgot to set the novel in the Age of the Three Emperors. IIRC there are straight up references to king Louen Leoncoeur in this piece of shit of a book. That's not even getting into the flat one dimensional characters, boring ass plot and overwrought Woke 1.0 browbeatings. If you want a novel about chivalry and castles and peasants that manages to incorporate well written female characters, I would instead recommend Le Grand Feu by Jeanne Bourin (©Éditions de la Table Ronde, 1985). And if you don't care for women, then obviously Ivanhoe by Sir Walter Scott, that still dominates as one of the best chivalric romances ever written in modern times.t. ranny
>>98463322>fuck man, the latest WC article has a female "lord", do fags run the placeBuddy, one of the first Bretonnian armies featured in WD back in like 1993 was Alessio Cavatores personal host, which was lead by two sisters, a damsel and a converted Repanse he was running as a Bret lord. People have always wanted cool fem knight minis irregardless of le woke menace, it's a completely different convo from the novel being shityy wokescolding.
>>98461940Nah I disagree, Blücher, which is for my money, the best historical wargaming rulesets, ditches strict igougo for a more dynamic momentum-based gameflow. You could honestly try bolting it on WHFB/TOW, provided you're playing a large enough battle.>>98461880>>98461863Very cool freehand banner anon, even if it is from 2015.
