Does your character have a drug of choice? Have any of your games gone off the rails because of (hopefully in game) drug use?

VtM players be like: I'm the type of beast that doesn't look the blood doll in the eyes, especially if I find them physically attractive.

V6: You take that shit back to Golconda. You're in the World Of Darkness. We monsters in this motherfucker! We make an uncomfortable amount of evil decisions. We never regain our human morals.

I had an Irish new age druid stoner in HtV. He was a Witch with shapechanging plant growth, and some other stuff. He drove a busted up landscaping/gardening van (his day job) that he slept in and he also sold pot on the side. He would usually just carry the seeds and use magic to grow them on demand. The pot smoking stoner act was mostly just a joke & I didn't make it a serious part of his personality at all. Personally i fucking hate stoners and all junkies. Wish I could hunt them for sport

The Beast Player's Guide actually convinced me Beast wasn't a completely unsalvageable game line in a theoretical CofD 3e.
>>
>>98462971
It's more of a question of what is the worth of doing so. They have some interesting threads but for the most part they sound like those should be given to other game lines, mainly Lost.
>>
>>98462971
I like to imagine that Beasts are something that used to work in ancient times, maybe even living more symbiotically with Heroes, but but somehow became fundamentally broken.

>>98463049
Oh, fey taking on a more active "monster under the bed" role could be fun. Maybe trying to keep banality levels low in a city without blowing yourself up in the process?
>>
>>98463049
The core book is peppered with these little half-page stories, most of them other splats interacting with Beasts. There's one where a changeling is talking to one who likes to scare people walking home and he point-blank asks, "do you ever take them?"
>>
>>98463112
>Let's have a game where you play a character that preys on the fears of children and the mentally unwell
I get the appeal but that's a hard sell these days to the average (non-vidya) gamer

Also, most tables might probably balk at the possibility of playing a character that presents as a child abductor/rapist simply because of the implication...

Thid is because they're retarded drum circle bullshit no reasonable table would ever play out written for LARPers.

Most of the other Changeling Breeds don't fall into this trap because they were written by actual human beings; their rites/ritual lists are much shorter and are something you could reasonably gloss over while feeling organic, like a prayer before battle in other games.

It has a pretty heavy smut focus that comes and goes, it's called My Little Ventrue.

So i had a thought about the 1 dot dominate power (in vtm v20)
When you use Dominate, the command has to be a single word. But there are many languages in the world. It doesn’t explicitly say that the target has to understand the language. So theoretically you could pick a language that compresses certain concepts into a single word. I don’t mean anything super complex, but I can imagine there’s a language that has a single word meaning “tell the truth,” for example. That would still fall under the definition of “The order must be clear and straightforward,” but it would let you make the instruction more precise or include clearer instructions. I think this comes from the fact that the rules were obviously written with English in mind. “The vampire locks eyes with the subject and speaks a one-word command, which the subject must obey instantly.” You could argue that the power works supernaturally, and since it doesn’t say the person has to know the word. Unless you argue it falls under “If the command is at all confusing or ambiguous, the subject may respond slowly or perform the task poorly.” Which still implies that it does work. It’s obviously a bit powergamey, but for bilingual characters or elders who know many languages, it might actually be relevant. A quick google search gave me this result:

several languages have single verbs that mean “to tell the truth” (rather than requiring a phrase like “tell the truth”).
Arabic: The verb صَدَقَ (sadaqa) specifically means “to tell the truth.”
Ancient Greek: The verb ἀληθεύω (alētheūō) means “to speak the truth” or “to act truthfully.”
Spanish: The verb sincerarse can be used reflexively to mean “to open up” or “to tell the truth / speak honestly.”

The Ventrue lady's eyes seem to glow for a fraction of a second, catching anon's full attention as she points to the paragraph in the manual.
"READ.", she commands.

What I am allowing as a ST with the first dot in Dominate is to ask a yes or no question and order: "ANSWER." Everything must be in a language the victim understands, and if you want the long story you need more dots, like Mesmerize.
>>
>>98463797
well i was quick referencing from a wiki and that part was left out, so shame on me i guess...

oooor you could just show a person you are interrogating the dictionary site before with the word "learn" and it should still work right?
>>
>>98463764
Elaborate
>>
>>98463744
>>98463797
that awkward moment when you are an awesome hermetic master (without mind1 somehow) and the tremere neonate with a single dot in dominate speaks a single word in the platonic ideal of language (enochian) which he somehow cribbed from a thousand year old grimoire laying about in the chantry, perfectly communicates an incredibly complex order.
>>
>>98463764
Is overrated. Bastet pussy is far superior.
>>
>>98463744
>>98463797
>>98463823

theoretically as a thought experiment, up to a certain limit of complexity you could theoretically invent a nonsene word and give it a meaning of a task. Then force a person to "LEARN" it with Dominate 1 then use the word with dominate 1 to make them perform the task you previously defined right?
>>
>>98462775
Asking again my question from last thread

Can someone explain something to me… in Mage the Ascension when someone picks up biological implants they get to choose between either taking up permanent paradox (which can’t be lowered), or picking up genetic flaws.

But the description of genetic flaws seems a bit weird. Like say you increased your stamina. One of the effects that you can pick up is an increase in appetite. How does that work? How do you implement that in game? And how do you quantify it if someone has many/big implants that grants massive increase? Because the increase in appetite seems mostly like flavor text. And honestly I prefer to say that my mage eats two hamburgers in a meal instead of one, compared to taking like 5 permanent paradox points.

>>98461829

the corax will wring you out for all your secrets then tell them to garou, who will come by to laugh at the "secret" of your small dick. The Bastet will wring you out of all your secrets to blackmail you and then groom you into being a good little gaian fifth columnist for whatever organization you are in. Literally advanced pussywhipping. I'd rather take the bird, at least the embarassment will be temporary.
>>
>>98463920
It would probably be something like, you have to eat every other scene or get negative modifiers because you are so hungry or if you have resources 1 or 2 then it's worth less because you spend more money on food, that sort of thing.
>>
Is the Delirium unique to the Garou? Like, if a werecat goes into their Crinos equivalent, would that cause Delirium in humans?
>>
>>98463951
The Delirium is not unique to the Garou
Some Moloke inflict the delirium against the Garou...for some reason, I forget why.

>Does your character have a drug of choice? Have any of your games gone off the rails because of (hopefully in game) drug use?
Not my character, but a late friend of mine played a Nosferatu who exclusively fed from drug users as part of his theme of decay. He was hoping to develop a bloodline and unique discipline out of it, but couldn't make anything work to a satisfying degree and eventually gave up on it. He had a feeding ground centered around a rundown tenement full of heroin users.

There was also a Requiem game where a scene spiraled out of control when another friend of mine got his character hopped up on crack when we went to storm a Belial's Brood strong hold. The building caught fire during the fight, cops and fire trucks showed up, and my friend had his character strip naked before running out into the street shouting "I'm on PCP bitches!!!" to draw the cops away.
>>
>>98463951
It highly depends on the shifter. Werecats cause reduced Delirium in Crinos but full Delirium in Chatro (Big Scary Cat form). Kitsune do not cause Delirium at all, for example.
>>
>>98463957
>>98463963
What about stuff like the Pithus form of the Ananasi? Big ass spiders are scary as fuck, right?
>>
>>98463823
>>98463917
As a ST I would think and if I must, roll, to determine the answer to questions such as:

How well does the victim remember...
- the command being issued? (actual verb)
- who issued the command?
- having done what was commanded?
- the context in which the command was issued?
...and I don't have a one-answer fits all. Because the answer to these and other questions depends on a number of factors, starting with how strong is the will of the victim.

Sometimes it is convenient for the vampire that the victim remembers as little as possible, but other times the vampire wants something to stick.

Let's go back to the example of the Ventrue lady commanding anon to READ. It would cause anon's eyes to dart over to the book sure, but how well does anon remember the lesson?

And that is why Mesmerize is the superior power, at two dots, letting you extract more information and implant more detailed instructions.

As a ST, you shouldn't let your player abuse Command to the point they get the same results as Mesmerize but instantly.

As a player, you should be clever like the Dominate users say the are, and play with Command while staying within the limits of this sudden encounter of two wills.

Dominate is an immense and frightening power that is accessible even to ghouls.
>>
>>98463744
>When you use Dominate, the command has to be a single word.
No it doesn't. It must just be simple.
"Tell me the truth."
"Pick it up."
"Go away."
"Open the door".
"Tell me about your mother."
All completely valid.
>>
>>98463975
it was mostly a thought experimtent. i am a player and none of my characters know dominate or plan to learn it (it feels kinda against the ahrimane spirit). But it's always interesting to try to find creative ways to expand your capabilities especially if you play as low level neonates.
> Let's go back to the example of the Ventrue lady commanding anon to READ. It would cause anon's eyes to dart over to the book sure, but how well does anon remember the lesson?
That's why i think "Learn" would be the superior command word in that circumstance, since it requires to actually remember and understand.
the description of the power defines it to be limited in complexity, so the amount of complexity you can put into the invented command word i think would be the easiest way for a ST to prevent abuse. After all it says "simple and clear commands". "Go to X place at Y time" for example is a matter of discussion (or ST decision) if it is already too complex for 1 dot.
>>
>>98463917
Sounds fairly complex, and being subjected to domination is inherently disorienting. I am not saying it is impossible, conceptually, I just question if it would be practical to any meaningful degree.

This is everyone's reminder that different clans use Dominate differently, and where the Ventrue suggest the Lasombra demand, and Lasombran servants regularly turn into drooling retards that fail at thinking for themselves because they just keep bulldozing them with Dominate. Every time you dominate someone, you do *some* form of damage.
>>
>>98463997
He said one dot, so specifically Command, herr Freud.
>>
>>98463964
if i remember correctly the kitsune are the only ones who don't cause delirium because they weren't around yet during the war of rage let alone the impergium
>>
>>98463950
Uh, I guess that’s a good way to implement it.
Reminds me of a Spider-Man OC I once made in a Frostpunk world.

I was doing research on enhancements because I wanted to make a character with 10 intelligence. Now that I’m reading again on those enhancements I’m disappointed that there’s none that increase wits and manipulation.

>>98463049
>>98463112
>>98462853
I haven't played Lost or Beast but I feel like if I did I'd try to make a "feeds on fear" character but without the pedo undertones. I'd try to be more like an urban legend like Shonen Batto/ Candyman/Babadook/Bloody Mary than a Jason/Michael Meyers, farming glamour off the legend itself rather than how many people you string by their intestines and only doing that to worse monsters, which you then end bombastically in order to perpetuate your story. Fell like that'd be a neat source of glamour.
>>
>>98464026
What do you mean there is none? You could probably easily cook something up that's what Mage is about.
Some implant that overheats your brain or something (best for frostpunk, so you could become a heater yourself).
>>
>>98464243
Well I just went and read about the biological implants that boost attributes in the core M20 book, and they only affect Strength, Dexterity, Stamina, Appearance and Intelligence. I admit that I’m surprised that there’s nothing about increasing the speed of your thought process (Wits). I know that they have equivalent in Shadowrun and Cyberpunk. I wanted to make a living supercomputer and I figured that high intelligence and wits would be necessary.

The Spider-man OC idea I had in the past did generate heat. I called him Spider-flame because the spider that bit him also had fire-ant DNA. He was a bit stronger, and way more durable than regular Spidey alongside generating flames from his body, but in exchange he had to consume way more calories or starve to death. Which was especially dangerous in a Frostpunk NY, and had him dependent on Oscorp for nutrients pills. He was opposing it, but couldn’t let the rioters who he supported (and some being his friends) raid the place and ransack it.
>>

Spider with fire ant DNA bites character and gives him fire powers instead of a venomous stinger. Very Marvel.

The Nuwasha also don't cause delerium and instead have a kind of invisibility in their crinos equivalent.
Their"war" form is a cognito hazard that's incomprehensible to the human mind, so they forget the nuwasha exists faster than their mind can register their presence. This means humans generally ignore a crinos nuwasha even as their being pick-pocketted in broad daylight. The effect extends to Images of the nuwasha crinos as well.
(This got retconned in WtA20 changing breeds, downgrading them to "causes delerium, but weaker", but WtA20 changing breeds is completely ass for other reasond and should be ignored regardless).

Elections don't work when your rules follow a pattern or gerontocracy. The Traditions explicitly refer to your "Elder" multiple times. Praxis claimed by the oldest and/or most socially powerful is a hard system to beat.

Drafting up some sample antagonists for my WtF game. I like the idea that this small area is under the control of the Ivory Claws, the offspring of some big-shot further up north has been charged with maintaining the territory and had a pack placed under them. 8 or 9 Pure in total, but with a large support-network of wolf-blooded and others working in the local police department etc. I'm a bit unsure on how to characterise the leader, beyond them being young and inexperienced. The Ivory Claws are all about purity and lineage, so this leader commands the respect of the pack despite being unproven. Beyond that, I'm not sure how to flavour these guys in a way that sells them as Pure, while also making them distinct beyond "the werewolf bad guys". The Pure book talks a whole lot, but it doesn't really feel like it actually has much to say? Any suggestions?

The area has a lot of tidal activity, but was also bombed during the War, and since the game is in 1980 it's still in living memory for enough people. So I think the Hisil will intermittently have bombing-raids with large Luftwaffe aircraft flying overhead, shedding smaller bomb-spirits. These explosions sometimes travel through the Gauntlet, manifesting as gas-leaks, fuel-tank explosions and methane explosions on farms.

Like most new ideas, there would be a great deal of debate where the traditionalists assert it is definitely a tool of the wyrm. By the time the tech-progressivists can prove it's actually a completely neutral science Pentex will buy up the companies that make it and corrupt them. Ultimately the traditionalists will be able to declare they were right all along and Garou culture once again fails to adapt to a world that grows increasingly hostile to them.

>The Pure book talks a whole lot, but it doesn't really feel like it actually has much to say? Any suggestions?
First start by asking the following questions:

>What do the Pure want to achieve?
>Why do they want this?
>How do they plan to achieve it?

Now apply a trickle-down effect. The answers to the above questions color the answers to the local Pure faction, filtered through their history and local environment. And that also trickles down to the answers the BBEG has to the same questions. Any other Pure members that are important in any capacity must also answer those questions, colored by all of the above. That's how you flesh out a faction.

What’s your idea of a character or concept that might diverge too far into magical realm territory?

I would like to play a female gargoyle who was made with bits of toreador instead of Nosferatu. Also replacing the bloodline curse of being ugly with actually turning into stone during the day (like the Disney gargoyle show). The caveat and also what makes it magical realmy is that the petrification doesn’t apply to clothing. So you’re at risk of a masquerade breach if during the day the statue changes clothing.

Isn't the turning into stone thing part of visceratika, one of the Gargoyle's native disciplines? Aside from that, the clan flaw is changed in v20, so you don't have to worry about the ugly thing. Maybe "not including clothes in your stone form" could be a flaw and give you some bonus points?

The Ivory Claws seem to be focussed exclusively on purity, in a eugenics-adjacent manner. They have an almost-monarchic belief in it and offspring of suitably Pure individuals are held as inheriting said purity. Quite why this is so important to them, I couldn't find a clear answer in the book. Their Tribe Totem is Silver Wolf, who suffers because its fur is made of its Bane. The Claws devotion to Purity allegedly soothes this pain (but also, the blood of the Forsaken is a nice balm).

My broad outline is that this Leader is here to manage recruitment for the wider tribe. Gather up any Uratha who have not yet changed and bring them over to the Pure side, offer salvation to the Forsaken if any locals will accept it. That's why they're there. The Pure as a whole will hunt out new blood to recruit for their righteous crusade against the Forsaken to bring about a return to Pangea.

My problem is that there's no "why?" that satisfies me. I get the core clash of Forsaken vs Pure, but the Ivory Claws in particular feel like a wet fart. The Predator Kings have that alpha-predator angle, they're the best at what they do and they're all too happy to share that with everyone. The Fire-Touched are religious zealots, most in-touch with the Pure vs Forsaken philosophical divide. They want to "help" their counterparts, it's for the best of everyone. The Ivory Claws? They are pure. Not in a way that's philosophical (ie, Pure), that gets any focus. They just ... want to be pure? They're not religiously cleansing/saving sinners like the Fire Touched, or proving their purity of purpose like the Predator Kings.

Yet their book goes on about "the purest of the Pure", but there's no rationale behind it? There's no eugenics projects, they're not venerated by the other Tribes for being especially Pure, because the other tribes think they're the purest of the Pure, and they have some grounds to make that case.

I'd think such a character would need a lot of focus on the buildup of the fear, like the ending scene in Monsters University. You would have to have two types of Contracts/Blessings/Merits - some focused on building up the fear and harvesting glamour from it, and others to cash in that glamour on some gruesome execution/combat powers precisely for when you meet some freako that won't fall for tricks so easily.

Not lewd enough to be a semi-permanently naked sexy woman who is completely subservient to her Tremere master? Unable to do anything during the day, even more than the average kindred? I was also considering picking up Weak-Will and Bound as a flaw.

I thought that that one master could have made a plethora of beautiful servants like that. One of the ladies (possibly my character) could also have been punished for disloyalty or for failing a mission. Her punishment is to receive the Molly Malone statue treatment during the day. Except that because of the clan curse she can’t cover herself with clothes, and more than just her breasts gets fondled.

the blood sorcery books also go a bit more into the pros and cons because the system sounds solid they are a few downsides that could be used to spice up a character and justify some social flaws: traded tremere can also be seen as a security risk if two chantries don't have a positive relationship and the new neonates loyality might be split between his new chantry and his sire, regents can get pissed if they feel like they got the worse apprentice (talent, generation, uniqueness etc) and in some towns princes might not let the new apprentice stay without the tremere giving him a boon

I guess the bit I struggle with is that most factions in CofD and WoD have some depth or simpler explanation for their behaviour and beliefs that you can explore with different characters. Ivory Claws feel the most 2D of the Pure in that regard. I can't find a rationale for why Purity is so important to them, and that's their whole thing.

>>
>>98465846
I think Kinfolk can learn gifts that don't require Rage or Gnosis, but they need a Garou to broker the deal. The Pact was made with Garou, not humanity.

>>98465807
As mentioned previously they're a tribe that stakes their self-worth on being the most fit to lead because of a long list of reasons puntuated with "Fuck You." They believe themselves the inheritors to Father Wolf's right of primacy and are unfathomably butthurt that the Storm Lords seem to be more favored in that respect and refuse to submit to the Ivory Claws (or at least Silver Wolf projects his envy of Winter Wolf onto his children and they follow suit.)They want to RETVRN TO PANGAEA like the other Pure but more to the point they want to put the kingdom back together so they can take Father Wolf's vacant position as top dog and rule above all others. They obsess over keeping their bloodlines pure (as in, no Forsaken or ex-Forsaken allowed) because they fear diluting their blood heritage might threaten their claim to the throne of Pangaea, which is the thing they want most of all. I could go on, but that's the cliff notes version.

Also, I caught this just now but Ivory Claws are the ones that hate the Forsaken the most and offer no quarter with them. Offering "salvation" to the Forsaken is a Fire-Touched thing instead, so either your Ivory Claws BBEG has an unorthodox way to go about his tribe's tenets or he has a Fire-Touched lieutenant who handles the poaching of recruits from the Forsaken. Meat is just a type of biological matter. the Wylder doesn't care about the specifics of life. It's just wild and uncontrolled creation and lab-grown meat is just a case of energy and chemicals being converted into organic matter. It's pure, raw creation, a synthesis of Wylder and Weaver.

>>
>>98466021
I reckon so. My current thinking is that we have our Ivory Claws nepo baby sent to the back-lines to protect a valud investment for the Tribe, a family of humans of good breeding stock. Various bloodlines of Claws have lent their blood to this family through the generations and refining it, and this leader is taking a team there on a protection detail. They've travelled through Predator Kings territory to get there, and have set themselves up as security around the family. There might be an imminent First Change, I may save that as a wild-card during an encounter if the PCs try to take out the Claws most important asset. The Pack leader takes their charge very seriously, it's not just about their reputation, but the investment of the wider Tribe into this family.

The Claws Pack were happy with the security detail when they were given it, six months ago. Now they're getting bored. Some of the lower members of the group are starting to fuck about a bit. They're hunting, causing trouble in the local area while the senior members are consolidating their power in the nearby towns, putting wolf-blooded in authority positions etc. The fresher werewolves are a thread the PCs can pull on to unravel the whole pack. I figure the Claws would argue and have internal tensions between losing liabilities that invite weakness, and cutting loose their own packmates.

The PCs will begin the campaign imprisoned, having been captured by the Claws and offered as a gift to the regionally - neighbouring Predator Kings pack as part of their safe passage, and to keep them sweet. The PCs will be able to escape as they're only being locked down in an old scrapyard by a few Wolf-blooded, something to give the PCs a bit of a taste of power and get the ball rolling on antagonist motivations etc. They may even invite the wrath of the Claws for the Wolf-blooded they kill in their escape, in-turn inviting the wrath of the Kings nearby who were promised tribute.

"Malicious" also depends on who you are when the Wyvr is concerned. If you're a normal human or a technocrat, the the Wyvr fucking Loves you. Human are here special little pets that spread her threads without her needing to even ask.
If your a supernatural however...
Similarly, "Malevolence" might not be the right word for the Wyld, but it's still uncaring and cruel like a lovecraftian god. It won't take away your freedoms, but it will load you down with horrible, dibilitating mutations and unleash horrifying abominations across the world for no decernable reason. It's an uncaring god of chaos and change.

>Hibiki gets off work and comes home during this, finds a note Aiko left
>Rushes to help
>The three of them take out the three hunters
>Call up Kanoe, one of Sanae's little sisters for some help
>She's a sorcerer, is able to set the church on fire
>5 more SoLniggers rush out to fight
>Katarzyna sent Elizabeth to take a walk around this time, luckly
>one of the vets gets wrapped with vines by Elizabeth
>Vines enter his orifices before turning to molten steel
>Another of the veterans has his revolver explode in his hand from dogshit rolls
>Later on, one of the novices has his 12 gauge turn into a fucking IED because he rolled almost exclusively 1s
>Another veteran shot Elizabeth's arm off for that molten steel trick, he was so happy
>Then she picked it up and popped it back in
>Look of horror from SoL vet as he realizes shooting the arm off a mannikin with a ball-jointed body does fuck all if you don't destroy the limb or the joints
>More fighting as the church burns, this is kinda boring so skimming over it
>However, one of the veterans goes down in the most retarded manner possible

>Turns it into a drooling feral hog
>He explodes as the hogger escapes

No it doesn't, it implies severity of harm. People saying "This cruel world" aren't saying the world is a sapient entity, they're saying it will hurt you.

No, most dictionaries will say that cruelty requires intentionality, which the Wylder lacks. The Weaver and Wyrmer are cruel, but the Wylder is not.

Fake meat is artificial. Its a mockery. Like astrotucrf. Fake meat was never born, it is a stagnant perpetuation of something that was. Fake meat is also cancer. Literal cancer. Thats what makes it Wyvr-Wyrm
>>
>>98466321
Some of them mention it, but only for a single definition, and all of them provide other definitions that do not require intent. Notably, Merriam-Webster does not require intentionality at all and all of its definitions are able to be satisfied without an intelligent actor.

>Fake meat is also cancer. Literal cancer.
So it's Wyld then? Cancer is a random mutation that makes cells more fertile and able to quickly change themselves to adapt to the hosts defenses. It's by definition one of the most Wyld things that can exist, because it's creation and change given form.

Note that not only does it not refer to explicit thought or action, but the sample text refers to a diet, which is a kind of habit and not something intrinsically capable of thought or action.

There is four avatar essences and three aspects of the Metaphysic trinity. The four essences are Dynamic, Pattern, Primordial and Questing. Equaling to Wyld, Weaver, Wyrm and an equal balance of the three. The mage metaphysic trinity is different and consist of Dynamism, Statis and Entropy.

Gaia is not an aspect of the trinity, the best case you can make is questing avatars. Which would reduce "Gaia" to an emergent quality.

So the Bastet have a fetish that can guarantee a Bastet birth, and the Anansi are actually half-insect, but the Ratkin are explicitly the most populous Fera somehow, despite refusing to interact with human society (they believe, despite being rats, they are not only equal to but superior to humans) and actively stealing territory from other Fera whenever they find it (they believe, despite being rats, they are not only equal to but superior to other shapeshifters) with the express intention of conquering the world. Somehow you can get worse than the Garou. Still in the shapeshifter family tree though.

Give me a moment, I think I can sauce this.
There's a doujin series called Bestiary (Monster Daihyakka), 3 volumes of it, each is collection of short stories by various doujin authors about some monster(s) and their victim(s).
The Gargoyle story from 2nd volume, and it is indeed by ShindoL ("the Emergence author") though I'd prefer if you didn't stereotype him just by his most (in)famous work that got overhyped out of proportions by FAKKU, the author's true scope is much broader.

Luckily Mangadex does have that chapter, but little else from Volume 2, however Volume 3 is there pretty much in full if you're curious. Word of warning, it does get pretty nasty at times. Most of the times.

One thing i think Beast did well was Lairs and the Atavism system. It'd be hard to give that to other splats. Besides, CtL is already bloated as shit with it's various subsystems and only Mage has anything to do with the Astral.

>>98463087
Same. If I were in charge, I'd turn them into a sort of psychic stalking horse. By interacting with monsters, they connect them to the Astral, letting people subconsciously avoid them. Heroes interprete these as prophets. Beasts also prevent other monsters from being too predatory because because they're born from humanity and it would hurt their food supply, occasionally working with Heroes to maintain the population. Any Beasts that stop carrying about the good of the community get put down like a rabid dog by the Hero using supernatural power and the backing of an angry mob. I'd also have it so Beasts worked as an Astral immune system. Eventually it got so big it didn't need defending from the Anima Mundi anymore and the Heroes went crazy.

Vigil is the best pound for pound game. It's versatile, setting agnostic, and has solid mechanics. I'm of the personal opinion that while CofD is far from perfect, it's still leagues better mechanically than oWoD Its versatility is such that it can run pretty much whatever you want.

If you're absolutely, positively married to oWoD, Hunters Hunted V20 or Reckoning, depending on if you prefer normal Hunters or the Imbued. Avoid H5 at all costs.

HtV is probably your best choice, but you'll run into the issue that lore of various splats across various versions is all over the place. Certain degree of paranoia is always justified, and often straight up necessary.

what? Why? It's still entropy 2 or something, they don't have to cast at the top of their sphere game.
>Am I right to assume that the only thing ever brought up about archmages is all the potential big dick moves they have in their back pocket and not any of these?
what does this mean? People don't usually talk about the mechanics of archmasters because it's just plot NPCs. Nobody ever plays with archspheres. And thus what they do is basically in the realm of what other archmasters are stated to do. Furthermore It's an old supplement that explicitly doesn't exist anymore because everything that used to be archspheres is now just sphere 5+ successes. Either way, the systems don't function how you think they do as apparently Voormas and Ol' Asswipe are pretty big deals and not the useless cucks you seem to want to typecast them as.
>>
>>98467467
>what? Why? It's still entropy 2 or something, they don't have to cast at the top of their sphere game.
Rules get stricter once you've gotten into the archspheres I guess, like how IIRC you can't do regular sorcery anymore without eating Paradox if you awaken.

Archmages are supposed to represent the wretched extreme of mages who have given up everything else in the pursuit of magical power. The cost of being so magically powerful is that they can no longer interact with material reality any more without significantly damaging it. It's meant to be a miserable and undesirable existence and like you say, a cosmic trap. They might approach methuselah, if not Antediluvian levels of power, but it's a question of whether all of these additional costs make it worth it. The answer is an obvious and resounding 'no,' but it's not like anyone tells archmages figure out all of the consequences until it's too late.

I just wasn't expecting them to be quite as blunt about it, no wonder the M20 book offhandedly referred to it as a trap. I also appreciate them including the option to double down on it in the form of Exemplars if you just want to become completely incomprehensible and/or a spirit with a new day job.
>>
>>98467557
M20 also says not to touch archmastery Spheres with a bargepole, since any single one of them is capable of shenanigans that an entire chronicle could revolve around.

>Suddenly, no one in the city moves on from their bodies when they die, they just continue their lives as zombies instead.

The answer to each scenario could easily be "an archmage did it" and they might not have even done it intentionally, it could just be some backlash caused by a spell of theirs.

Yeah, it's kind of a thing everybody ignores in my experience.
the supposed ideal of all mages is ascension and enlightenment, but nobody actuallys plays mage for that or cares about it. People want to fireball and fuck with reality, not become gurus. The Awakening Door: Archmage Edition has some minor side effects like loss of sanity, crippling your Avatar or death.
>••••• •••• Awaken Avatar
>Yes, it is possible to force the Awakening of another. It is rarely a good idea. Awakening needs to come when the mage is ready for it. Very few people Awakened this way re- main useful to their awakeners. The Awakening is traumatic enough; a forced Awakening can kill the victim with shock or leave the Avatar damaged and deranged.
>Some rare and powerful Umbrood posses this power. These Umbrood are generally known as demons. Infernal mages have to get their powers somehow, after all.
>[Awakening a mortal’s Avatar is no mean feat; it typically counts as an extraordinarily difficult (20+ successes) task. The subject immediately loses a permanent point of Willpower from the trauma, and must then make a Willpower roll. Failure indicates that the subject gains a derangement and suffers some sort of damage to her Avatar (manifested as Sphere Incompetence, no Avatar rating or a similar handicap), while a botch kills the target. This power has no effect on supernatural or already-Awakened creatures. Even if the Awakening is successful, the individual might not be friendly to the mage or even able to act after the sudden, terrifying experience.]

whats even supposed to smack down run-of-the-mill sorcerers when they try gaining this power, they don't have innate weaknesses or surrounded by sociopaths all the time like vampires and the universe doesn't try to correct them when they do their magick like true mages. it really seems like a master sorcerer could just figure out the God killing spell or find equivalent powerful spells in some old tome and start teaching it to anyone that cares to listen with no consequence.

Werewolves don't get sick from most drugs and have incredible tolerance so there are no downsides to doing a supernatural level of drugs. This ironically makes the Garou excellent at drug disposal. Make a big pile of drugs and burn it? Bad. Give it to the local Septs? Much less damaging.

Is it a good idea, spiritually speaking, to use Rite of the Spirit Awakening on a stolen bag of coke and give it to your local Squirrel spirit? No. Would it be awesome? Absolutely.

That's a good point, I'll have a think. I don't necessarily want to overburden the campaign and have everything tie back to the Pure though. One of the big pitches I made to the players is that they can hunt pretty much whatever they like. All the Tribes have a preferred flavour of prey and anything that upsets their territory or sensibilities has got to go. I want to have a decent spread of taster-foes, and let the players find out what they enjoy.

Currently planned foes include:
A Sublimati Pandoran from my HtV campaign, it escaped and is laying low in the salt marshes until a source of Pyros comes by.

An Arudashu pack that is turning wild dogs into wolves.

WW2 Blitz Spirits as mentioned above.

A cowardly Vampire prepper trying to get as far away from urban areas as possible in a fit of Cold War paranoia. Unfortunately it's leaving a trail of bodies behind, and some of them are waking up as Revenants.

A band of Hunters (maybe under the pay of the Ivory Claws) who are managing most physical threats in the region.

A God Machine cult that has infiltrated a construction project on a farm out in the sticks. Unbeknownst to the workers, their project is siphoning large amounts of Essence from the Hisil as part of an Occult Matrix to build or summon an Angel. If this plot thread garners attention, a Demon will also be present in the region and attempt to guide the PCs towards lynchpins in the infrastructure.

And I think that's enough threads to dangle infront of the players? Some are one-and-done threats, others are a bit more involved.

Mage: the Ascension, our young Ecstatic was smitten (mostly due to Presence and a low-level Blood Bond) with a sultry vampire lady. Despite my Akashic lunk-head's best efforts, the Ecstatic went and drank a gifted bottle of wine the vampire had sent over. Now we'll have to figure out how to catch and detox our guy before he goes running off to become a full ghoul.

Hmm... and then there was a VtM chronicle where the drugs were mostly incidental to the derail. Our coterie got hit by Sabbat shortly after our arrival in Miami, so we're low on blood and we need a new car. Someone suggested we hit a crack den to secure some blood and resources. Their idea might have worked, except our idiot Brujah frenzied before we were in position, which led to a gunfight and a table covered in cash and bags of coke to go flying. The mortals inhaled the cocaine while we struggled with them, which meant the vamps got high as well. By the end of it, five vampires are trudging away from a house fire, covered in cocaine and bullet holes, with a pair of recently-ghouled Rotweilers trailing happily after the Gangrel.

For the people who actually gm here, in your opinion in most splats do attributes and skills carry you father or is it disciplines and attributes?

An example of what I mean is Auspex and Obfuscate. Both of these are better than perception + Alertness/Awareness and Dexterity + Stealth can ever be, even if you have subpar numbers.

But when you create most campaigns, is it generally feasible that a dude that has like 7 to 10+ dice in all the attributes and skill combos will probably get further on average than most heavily powers focus character (disciplines, gifts, sorcery, avatar magic, etc)?

I feel like a complete 100% merge is impossible. Humans need to organize the chaos into a livable world with physics. I do feel the border would become much more fluid and fuzzy. Yeah, if you wanna live long as a Garou then you have to take the honour hit and RUN AWAY if you take too much damage. You'll regenerate your damage (so long as it isn't agg) within 30 seconds anyway. Gaia gave the Garou the easiest method of stepping sideways and still haven't gotten the message.

There's shockingly few gifts which enhance a Garou's defences on top of that. Sure, if you want to put in the effort you can do that, but it's strikingly expensive to maintain a tank character. They're living blenders
>>
>>98468374
As much as a bear is a glass canon for not being able to tank a bullet to the heart.
>>
>>98468342
Bro just read the book. The question you're asking is too situational depending on the breed.
Although I'll try to help you out. Werewolves are the warriors of Gaia and they get strength +4, Dexterity +1, and Stamina + 3 in their war form. The Gurahl in their warform gets + to strength and stamina with a -1 to dexterity. Unlike werewolves, werebears can spend their rage to give themselves strength and or stamina to double their current form rage.

That means at most a werewolf can get strength wise without the might of thor or other gifts is 9. A werebear with strength 5, warform 5, rage of 10 temporary have a strength of 20 at character creation. The temporary strength last I think as long as the rage spent.

Vehicles at least with mage 20 rules don't have soak, but health required to actually damage a vehicle. A heavy tank has 20 health levels before it starts to get hurt narratively speaking. If i'm remembering it right then that means a werebear can throw around anywhere from 10 to 20 damage dice casually without using any gifts.

Khans can supposedly body a werewolf on a one vs one fight. There's foxes and cats that can use magic and the reptilians are so good at assassinating people the other shifters think they're dead. So there you go.

Thanks a bunch, this cleared out a lot.
>>
>>98468342
Well, they got pretty huge stats, they regen and they got rage which is basically Fera celerity. If you consider this part of warforms, I don't know if you are referring to feras dangerlevel or just how much more dangerous crinos or equivalent makes one). There's also gifts, in the case you are asking about how dangerous Fera in Crinos are in general.

So uhm, if you got no silver ammo a crinos ahroun is mechanically going to take like 1-2 (8 to 10 dice of damage vs 7 to 9 soak) damage from a shotgun blast. One of those lethal health levels will be healed per turn - that's three seconds in realtime for the characters. They are also very likely to survive the first truly lethal blow and come back with a few health. They can also ignore most wounds via Rage.

For damage a Garou is gonna do like 10+ dice of agg, killing most mortals in one or two hits. Other shifters vary. Most aren't as dangerous with a few exceptions, but most are still real dangerous. Remember this shit is WITHOUT gifts and their other supernatural abilities, which is where most of their power comes from.

Doggos also tend to come in packs of 4-5 so, yeah..

I forgot the second part on were breeds getting taken out by a shotgun. Most splats can not soak 8 dice of damage that easily. Even when vampires turn firearms into bashing damage and halve it on top of that they still can walk away fairly hurt. The main bane of werewolves is automatic weapons; so even if you're werecreature with 20 soak dice, three guys with an assault rifle can usually kill you. This is not including gifts like spirit of the fray and other crap like side step to help you not die, but guns are no joke. Even a SMG can be bad news and they only have 4 damage dice

By the rules of the game this is patently wrong.
if you have 20 soak dice you are statistically not taking any damage from a bunch of of assault rifles, like ever. At all. You're gonna roll 10 average successes highly reliably vs 5ish successes of damage. It would be an absolute statistical anomaly for a single point of damage to ever make it through. We are talking about 1%. And then they heal it.
You can shoot a werebeast with 20 soak with 30 assault rifles and never damage it.

With a smg rolling 4 dice+2 successes you are on average not dealing any damage to a 6 soak wolf (3stam +3 crinos), though this is way swingier than your insane 20 soak example which is basically immune to everything in the game. Them main bane of werewolves is silver, not automatic weapons. A single dude with a silver shotgun can unironically instantkill a wolf. But they will probably come back at least once via remain active.

who knows, from what i've heard from ppl in the industry, the reason for V6 is because of contract bullshit limiting what the current devs could do so long as they were working on V5, these limitations severely hampered the development of M5, and this was just a way to get out from under that, hence why we never got M5 and we're getting M6 before any other splat.
on the other hand V6 has such a negative reaction to it, even compared to V5, that the IP might get shafted before M6 or C6 releases

You know what? That's on me. You're right for the most part. 20 dice in soak for a werebeast is suppose to be the extreme. They still can't safely ignore assault rifles for the most part. The average elite, even if that varies depending on the gm has 6 dice in firearms. If they full auto to give themselves +10 dice on the attack and raise the difficulty by 2. The most they'll get is maybe 3 to 5 successes. Most assault rifles do 8 damage so they'll roll anywhere from 11 to 13 dice of damage. In general the guy with 20 dice is relatively safe, but if he has to soak 11 to 13 dice three times in a combat rounds he's probably not going to be looking great. This is assuming the ammo is not silver, gold, or whatever the werebeast may be weak to.

The point I was making with the SMG is that even as a vampire which turn most firearms into bashing damage and halves it if you are full auto by one with the elite stats it's the equivalent of getting hit by an assault rifle. It's enough to make out the average vampire if they're unlucky.

In essence you're correct that if a werewolf does have 20 soak dice they likely do not need to concern themselves with firearms most of the time, but they can still die by death by thousand bullets. Your point is still valid though

I want you to go to chatgpt and talk to it about monte carlo simulations, then run one yourself. So you can understand dicepool systems and how math shakes out in such systems. It's genuinely a very good trick to have in your pocket for matters of balancing dicepools.
If we say they have full auto guns that never reload and deal 12 dice for damage instead of 10 they are still not doing anything to the shifter. Let me give you a rough statistical breakdown of how these things shake out.

>20 soak 12 dice of damage
This is some super heavy firepower elite goon that is somehow never reloading. You are still even worse off than the SMG example. You've got 3% (lol!) to deal 1 damage, I'll leave the rest up to your imagination. The average damage is about 0.1. You need 10 people magdumping and never reloading (so really, 20) to kill a werewolf ever. You need 70 to do it in a single turn without remain active.
>6 soak 6 dice of damage, 1 regen per turn (smg vs garou)
You end up with a 20% chance to deal 1 damage, 12% for 2, 5% for 3, 2% for 4... The average damage ends up being about 0.6ish. You are basically NEVER killing it. You need two guys shooting it endlessly with smgs without it ever retaliating.

Nah, you're ultimately right with the 20 soak dice example. 20 soak vs 12 damage is generally safe. A poor example in hindsight.

>This is some super heavy firepower elite goon that is somehow never reloading

The point was pretty much that multiple people with automatic weapons even if you are a werebeast is a bad combo unless you can get access to high soak. 20 soak to my recollection is not unreasonable for a werebeast to get if they really try though.

You can definitely drop real Garou with 10 dice of damage, 4 dudes with normal assault rifles all shooting full auto at a single Crinos is probably enough to kill it, or rather force it to make a remain active roll. In play Garou got about 6-10 soak in crinos. 20 is a meme character. 10 is already investing super high in stamina and shit like leaf armor or armor of luna.

If vampires of a certain generation can only satisfy themselves by drinking from other vampires, how did that work in the old days? Cain and all his childe immediately starving to death because they don't have an army of thin-bloods to snack on. Is it an age thing? Once you hit 1000 years old your vamp body can digest blood and you need to be momma birded by others? Is it just a symptom of diablerie? Like how people addicted to alcohol will die if they go cold turkey, or people addicted to sleep meds stop producing their own sleep hormones?
>>
>>98468662
before v5 the thirst of caine only appeared in some vampires who triggered certain conditions* and only been over 500 years and then both a willpower roll (diff 7, successes needed equal to the number conditions meet) with the role repeating itself only "every few centuries"

*possible conditions named in the dark age storyteller companion (2002):

• Character is a Diablerist
• Sire is addicted to Cainite vitae
• Character’s Road rating is 3 or less
• Character follows the Roads of the Beast, Metamorphosis, or Blood
• Character is active for 500 or more years
• Character has a Derangement related to blood orfeeding
• Character has created five or more childer
• Character has placed five or more Cainites under blood oath
• Character has a Nature other than Architect, Caregiver, Cavalier or Martyr.

so it is very rare and it does not happen to all of them and vampires who become paragon of their road can cure themselves (golconda cures you as well of course) unless they are on the road of beast or blood

i do really like v6's concept of a character being retired if their humanity gets too high. i think some people are seeing it as some sort of equivalent to your character becoming a wight but a kindred with too high humanity just cannot exist in the world of darkness as a PC. If they don't care about all the horrors happening to people then theyre not that high in their humanity

when you achieve Golconda youre not gonna keep hanging out with other Kindred, you wouldn't be able to stand them. Humans don't even have the highest level of humanity by default

If you make an active effort to distance yourself from the community you're a part of, then leaving it makes sense.

Previously an addiction. Though Shark has merits to eat people. Does it count?
>Character has created five or more childer
So far none, and I’m not tempted… unless perhaps I get my level up that allows me to gain dots of blood sorcery when diablerizing. Then I’m just going to hope my nazi element benders die, so I can embrace them and nom their souls
>Character has placed five or more Cainites under blood oath
Shark shares his blood with however wants or needs it. But he never abused the blood bond. And it never went up to rank 3
>Character has a Nature other than Architect, Caregiver, Cavalier or Martyr.
Bon Vivant. Guess what he enjoys in life?

becoming unplayable because of being too high on the humanity scale is not achieving golconda
the examples given are
>the character goes into torpor
>the character walks into the sun
>the character isolates itself far away from society
>the character BEGINS seeking golconda
>the character STARTS defending humans as penitence for its vampirism
those last two examples make it clear that V6 is not an edition for making characters who protect humans or seek golconda, let alone come close to achieving it, because those activities are considered the sort of thing that a character does when it becomes unplayable
it is not saying that vampires who achieve golconda are unplayable
it is saying that vampires who put any effort into being better than their vampiric nature are unplayable

The point of the combo discipline is to let Bleu use Eyes of the Serpent and Entrance on everyone who looks at her, so...

Body of Nagini (Presence 3, Protean 2, Serpentis 4)
This power allows Bleu to shift and take on the form of a nagini, a naga princess from the Underworld of Patala in Hindu myth. Her body is transformed into soft and scaly serpentine coils, and she can entrance those who behold her with a mesmerizing stare and dancing serpentine body.
System: The player spends three blood points, the expenditure of which triggers the change.
The transformation takes three turns to complete. Clothing and other small items are transformed along with her. Once transformed, the vampire remains in this state until the scene ends or she voluntarily changes back to her normal self.
While she is transformed, the vampire gains an additional Hurt health level due to the added mass of her tail, her movement speed is doubled, and she is able to constrict foes to deal Str+1
Lethal damage. The most significant effect of the transformation is the ability to beguile those who behold her. On her turn, the vampire may spend one point of blood to use Entrancement or Eyes of the Serpent against all onlookers.
[An attempt to recreate Amphivena 5 from Vampire: The Requiem.]

The Penitence thing is especially dumb because that's like, a staple archetype of the genre. Not even going full Kinslayer Blade with it, but being someone who feels like they have to do good to make up for some great sin of their creation.
I understand we'd all have to explain what humanity even IS to the devs but you'd think they could grasp the idea of playing to archetypes.

Oh, and don't forget guys, the way you go more human is by getting a human frenzy - sorry, outburst - and you achieve that by ignoring your human impulses. So if you keep ignoring the pull of humanity, you'll eventually become too human.
But that's okay, you can induce mortal or monstrous frenzy in yourself by marking off all the boxes on your tracker by generating willpower, something that doesn't have any restrictions or requirements to do.

The humanity system in V6 is fucking abysmal, more than anything else in the playtest.
>>
>>98468838
Canon take given the people who actually achieve it all did it. If you're sitting on your couch being a fatass wishing you were in shape, you're not really pursuing your health. Are you? The point is that you don't fucking need a mechanic to facilitate a character retiring in earnest pursuit of Golconda just because they've been a gud boi one too many times.

It's far more interesting to let the PC actually develop as a person, suffer the internal conflict of their humanity rising so high even their closest allies in the kindred world become but disgusting abominations, give them opportunities to fall back into depravity, and eventually naturally reach a point where the player decides the PC should retire from the chronicle as Golconda calls to them.

The reason they operate like this, and more broadly the reason every media company operates from a "never admit defeat, never acknowledge a misstep, always act like everything you do is beloved even when it's hated" strategy is simple. Perverse incentive structures.

Publicly traded companies, those that benefit from the stock market, have their priorities shifted from the simple Make Product -> Get Money formula to the pseudo-religious practice of generating Shareholder Value. Success is partially predicated on perception, rather than actual success. If they admit they had a bad quarter, shareholders might get flightly. The way to make money on stocks (in an oversimplified way anyway) is to buy stocks, and then sell them when they're more valuable, netting you a profit. Thus, a booming company with a bad quarter, or worse, a steady decline is going to scare away shareholders, who will sell before the ship is sunk to make a profit, which in turn will tank the company's value far more than any amount of stinker products will. It doesn't completely insulate any company from the results of a bad product, but it is the less bad of two bad options, at least from the perspective of the people at the top.

The stock market is an ouroboros of faith in the holy line, and of incestuous backroom deals. And it's why companies will never admit fault.

All of which is ultimately a house of cards in the face of inevitable reality.
Shareholders are ultimately a mob of cowards. The moment that an inevitable real-world disaster devalues the stock significantly enough, a major chunk of them will cut and run, amplifying the problem a hundred fold. When the fact that many stock are propped up against each other to maintain the illusion of value, these runs end up spread like viruses across the market until you end up with a Black Monday.
The a reason the old name for economic Depressions was "Market Correction".

My guess as to why they'd still shell up here is because this is their hail mary play to recoup value on the IP, and the criticisms they're getting are criticisms of the foundational stuff. at that point the mummy can fist fight a char gen garou and have equal dice pools and bonus actions

the mummy has more stamina because they don't need to spend anything for their bonus attacks, but they have no claws and very limited ability to soak agg

but a mummy learns how to say "you don't exist" or "you are all silver" or "you and me... and my army of ghosts! or constructs!" for less exp then what they would need to spend to get to 8 in all stats physical stats
>>
>>98470012
That Mummy has 10ealth levels, 3 extra actions a turn at no cost, and does automatic aggrivated damage with it's bare hands. Abso-Fucking-lutely.
However, have blanket 8s like that normally requires greater hekau at 8 dots(since lesser hekau specializes those bonuses to only certain rolls). You're essetially sending a werewolf to fight 1vs1 with the mummy equivalent of an antedeluvian.

Also, correct. It's not like it's impossible for the Tzim to acquire those, but he'll also put in work. Besides, with the Tzim you're also not fighting just him, but a legion of fleshpets and influence + Koldun magic if you're unlucky. On a straight whiteroom 1 on 1 the woof wins and I say that as a Tzim fan. Also depends on Generation since elders get laundry lists of disciplines.

Perfect for my Weldwolf, TY
>Struggling (1pt.) By hard work and diligence, you've gotten yourself off the streets. You can raise just enough money for legitimate home, regular (but cheap) food, and even a few basic amenities. However, all of your resources are tied up in maintaining this home, and you have to struggle to keep it. As a BoneGnawer, you can't have points in Resources Background. Thus, mustering more than a few dollars of disposable income is difficult for you - it seems like you're paying off debts and bills. You do however, have a way to score some extra cash once in a while. Struggling may be tough, but it's a damn sight better than living on the streets.Downtime is critical to a Struggling character. Even though he's part of the chronicle, your character can't spend every day wandering around looknig for adventure. Drawing a paycheck requires at least twenty to thirty hours of part-time work a week; presumably this happens in the time between game sessions. Since this Merit limits the sort of tale your Storyteller can tell, it obviously requires his/her approval. Your character will, however, have a home, an address, and a phone number. At the start of each chapter of the chronicle, the Storyteller rolls your character's Wits; every two successes bestows the equivalent of one dot of Resources for the rest of the chapter. (If you've got Wits 4 or 5, you can reroll 10's.) The words "job security" mean nothing to you, however. On a botch roll, you lose everything and have to start over (as described below). You can also temporarily lose this Merit if you leave town, or can no longer work to keep up your home. Whether through a botched roll or negligence, you can fall through the cracks again at any momet. Your landlord is ready to evict you in a heartbeat, and your bills are almost always overdue. Setting yourself up as a "struggling" again requires at least a month of downtime and a number of XP equal to the cost of this Merit.

Until you get to high Spheres and Arete, a lot of the time it's smarter to solve problems with Attribute + Ability rolls.

i can see the goth i dont see a lot of punk besides the 'default' underdog factions, anarchs, hollow ones/disparates, ect, and they usually get shafted without making any real waves in the setting besides being what keeps the other factions from steamrolling the others or a plot element for why they can't capture a critical city.

The Jyhad is a fundamental part of the setting, you constantly have to deal with elders trying to use you as a pawn in their grand games, and any effort to circumvent the systems that they've built to ensure your obedience will lead to you being marked as an outcast and traitor.
>Werewolf the Apocalypse
Corporate greed is literally killing the world and it's up to you to rage against the machine and tear it all down in an effort to save the world before it's too late.
>Mage the Apocalypse
The Man is trying to control what everyone perceives and blind them to the truth of the world, to keep them obedient and in line. Because you know the truth, you're now declared an unperson who they seek to kill or brainwash.

>>
>>98471412
Not offensively, unless you're augmenting a gun's damage with Forces 2 and lowering the difficulty of a Firearms roll with Life 1 or Entropy 1, but then you're not just using magic.
At low Arete, there's no 100% magical attack that's anywhere near as effective as the above.
>>
>>98471431
>Is that aggravated damage?
Only if youre trying to escape. They can also provide extra stimulation. At the risk of entering magical realm territory: would that confer a bonus to 'performance' rolls?

Spheres still beat pumping stats the hard way. Using little exploits to stack bonuses using Spheres like you said. I didnt say Mages just fireball everything, just that you get more mileage out of your Spheres
>>
>>98471459
>>98471126
We'll say arete 3. Ordinary 3 forces 2 Prime fireball. Let's say we somehow make it coincidental, like throwing a vessel that may or may not actually be a grenade as part of the casting, just for sake of difficulty.

That puts us at 6 difficulty. We can drop that to 3 via Quint, Supplemental rolls and many more things (very easy for a mage to hit the -3 limit).
3 dice at 3 difficulty yield an average of 2 Succs. WP+Forces extra damage, and you're now at 8 DAMAGE average, not 8 dice. Or in other words, 16 dice at diff6.

This is actually probably going to be better than a difficulty 3 8 dice shotgun with 8 lethal damage inherent. So.. fireballs are pretty good! And then you gotta consider:
>It's aggravated
>It might hit multiple
>It triggers fireweaknesses or whatever other Elemental Weaknesses your enemy may have
>it's awesome

Life+Forces Swordmages might actually be even better because
>get Str+6 Greatsword
>have superhuman str
>lol

Why are you rolling for this? And I would say it's a difficulty adjustment, and unless your partner is into that which I'd determine as No, unless one of the following is true:
>bastet kinfolk
>some sort of merit/flaw like "masochist" or "deviant"
>1d100 roll, roll below 11

multiple stack to increase the difficulty reduction. What does this help you with? Nothing. Get a WP if your nature is deviant, maybe.

Two lostlings get an arranged marriage but grow to genuinely love one another because their keepers removed all the memories about when they broke up or harmed one another beyond what a relationship could repair.
At some point they get all their memories back but end up using a goblin friend to "restore their innocence" so they can live as happily as they were before. Making an oath to let them forget in peace.

I don't know why, but I have never seen people lean into the mind-fuckery they fae can do, let alone abraction trades. Like one time I suggested a goblin merchant buying potential from children for cheap candy or the skills from the elderly for a few moments of peace, and apparently that was evil enough to make some of the canon ones seem like kind people.

I legit do not know about that one. Skills are limited to the willingness, imagination, and knowledge of the storyteller. When powers are involved you can get away with more bs because it doesn't require logic in the same way. Maybe i'm wrong and most storytellers might be more willing to let skills be bullshit but I really doubt it.

yeah. The reason why I mentioned changelings is because they were the most obvious choice, but changelings already have too many things going on at this point as far as template powers go. Honestly, I think Forsaken would work better than Possessed or Claimed for something like Lairs as a fundamental part of the template. Like some sort of den carved out of the Gauntlet. Heck, you could even include the Lair trait system if you made it only applicable to the pack's territory. Possessed already have a decent power system going on last time I checked. Not really sure for Claimed though. I guess you could turn them into a playable template, but I feel like they'd need a major retooling to make work. As they are now, they've got less going on the Beasts do, and BtP mostly leeches off everyone else.

>>
>>98472987
And the effects are still felt to this day man

That's how history works anon...
I am sure the farther we go back, both of our ancestors did a lot of shit

If they are the baddies, why did Gaia who created them, Celestines that blessed them and Totems that took them as children, didn't warn or stop them?
>>
>>98473036
I think the only way to save the Garou Nation is to basically tell them to sit the fuck down and go over why they're dipshits
>>
>>98473072
that is what most of the signature character's, Jonas Albrecht's metaplot WAS about and how the nation needs to reform despite the elders of the tribes not wanting it to because as it is it sucks at fighting gaia's enemies in ways it just doesn't have to and it only does so for the sake of tradition

But wta fan from what i seen just seem to ignore that part of the setting while claiming that the garou been if not totally justified then still excused because nobody else is fighting the wyrm!
>>
If only we could make werew*lves a bit smarter...

Didn't the W5 writers also take a massive shit on Albrecht for daring to do that?
>>
>>98473117
"Smart" isn't even the problem. the problem actually i would argue is rage even a int 5 fera can turn into the biggest violent retard when provoked because of it

gaia really didn't think through the implication of it when she gave it to the fera and made it a important core part of how they function... if she is the one who gave it to the fera and not the wyrm
>>
>>98473123
the w5 writers had him turn into the exact opposite of his previous edition's self: in w5 he is a old and impotent fool who calls out the younger garou for NOT holding to tradition because said tradition would keep him in power

>You pick up the book, it is entitled "Practical Applications of Ancient Knowledge to Restrain the Self, and other Associated Wisdoms.". Written by a scholar you do not recognise. Obviously written by a man of philosophy. It is only 20 years old by its most recent publication date. "Dedicated to Dr. Pavel Arceneaux, esteemed member of the Order of Trismegistus, co-authored by many others of whom I can never truly thank for their Council, Reason and Union of purpose."

*the combined force of 1500 ancestors, wolf, man and werewolf alike shouts at you in absolute rage and fury; overpowering every sense and feeling you could possibly envision at this moment in time*

"Put. That. Book. Down.". They cry in hate and sublime revulsion.

You follow.

Ancestors are dicks
>>
I propose the notion that instead of calling them the Children of Gaia, they name themselves Gaians. Will make them at least sound less like a bunch of pussies. Like how could anyone take a faction called the children seriously?
>>
>>98473129
i would say he is probably the most assassinated character in the 5th edition lines, but theo DID murder his best friend for no (given) reason did a 180° on what the novels established to be his world view to join a faction he was always disliked as a figurehead of said faction and then happily work with a serial diablerist because she is "badass"

but that might just be because v5 theo shows up in three books while w5 jonas only showed up in one
>>
>>98471534
We should have clarified edition, because in M20, two successes on a damage spell is two health levels of damage, and the highest that an Arete 3 damage spell can do is six health levels with three successes. Then there's the fact that if the target wants to try and dodge said damage spell, unless it's imperceptible, all they have to do is beat the successes you rolled on the Arete roll, which is going to be very easy for anyone with even mediocre Dexterity + Athletics.

So in M20 at least, fireballs are worthless compared to a shotgun.
>>
>>98473036
meanwhile egyptian bastet just go around stealing the bodies of young children to stay young. How cucked can you be?
>>
>>98473175
that these gatos don't have mummies is even weirder because they don't listen to owl! a lot of them are also cult of isis sorcerers and isis made the spell of life with thoth and anubi + you have to remember that when it comes to the shadowland owl is just sleeping on anubis' couch
>>
>>98473160
Gaians is already taken as a catch all for all Gaian Garou and other Fera who adhere to the Triat.
Also, you may laugh at Unicorn (Unicorn's Arsenal lmao) but that totem fucks when it comes to certain gifts. We're talking total fluency in any language, resistance against frenzying, ability to convert strength die into automatic successes and the ability to temporarily supress a Derangement.
>>
>>98473126
I think Gaia is just a retard who doesn't know what she's doing.
>>
>>98473174
>the highest an arete 3 spell can do is 6hl
Except for the free success you get from using forces for a damaging spell, and the WP you can spend(just about the most efficient possible use of WP). Making it 10 HL. Which is what I described.
>You can dodge it
I have never seen anybody use a rule other than dex+athletics to throw the fireball. You can dodge that part, which is about as hard as dodging a gun. Arguably, the fireball might just splash you anyways for reduced damage.
>>
>>98473169
>but theo DID murder his best friend for no (given) reason did a 180° on
Wasn't that one heavily implied shenanigans with stuff like Lucita not knowing why she didn't step in and Theo Bell ardently denying that he killed Jan?
>>
>>98473203
To be fair she is currently being poisoned, eaten, undergoing plastic surgery, choking and undergoing heatstroke simultaneously, give her a break.
>>
>>98473205
he claimed to not have killed jan because jan is actually liked by the same crowd as him

as of the gehenna book theo is just a "badass" who wants to destroy the entire camarilla and enjoys that they can't kill him because of how "badass" he is
>>
>>98473219
>as of the gehenna book theo is just a "badass" who wants to destroy the entire camarilla and enjoys that they can't kill him because of how "badass" he is
The Gehenna book written before the reboot for V5?
>>
>>98473205
yes and there was even more that implied that it was a inside job like lucinde not making it to hardestadt in time despite the fact that she really should have, but that was dropped by later writing teams and now it's just a straight anarch victory with theo who was previously 100% behind jan's idea to reform the camarilla, was friends with several elders and was mentored by a elder of his clan who he deeply respected being turned into a ride or die anarch firebrand who runs around with as previously mentioned serial diablerists (who talk about shit like diablerizing caine...) in the gehenna war to kill elders and their minions for fun and vitae
>>

Egyptian Cat Mummies were also a HUGE thing, like egyptians LOVED turning cats into mummies for some fucking reason.

>>
>>98473223
nta but no both i and that other anon are talking about the v5 gehenna wars

during the gehenna novel theo DOES fuck off after seeing hardestadt run concentration camps and that goes against what his mentor taught him (he also stakes Karsh which he shouldn't be able to do, but nobody said that any version of gehenna was written well). In the gehenna game book the only mention of him is him joining Jan in his new reformed sect in one scenario after the masquarade falls

>I have never seen anybody use a rule other than dex+athletics to throw the fireball.
Seems like we've got radically different interpretations of the Violence as a Focus rule, because in my experience, the most common interpretation reading it is that the mage must cast the spell by performing an act of violence, by shooting a gun or throwing a punch. To apply this a fireball, you would be saying that the mage is casting the fireball by throwing the fireball, but the mage can't throw the fireball if they haven't already cast the fireball, so clearly the Violence as a Focus rules don't apply to fireballs.

I am referring to the M20 rules which consistently refer to an attack roll for things such as this. If you channel a forces 3 prime 2 attack through a plasma gun, then it's dex+energy weapons. If you do it through throwing, it's dex+athletics. If you do it with a punch, it's dex+brawl.
So you roll dex+athletics to throw a fireball, using arete as damage and the dex+athletics roll as the attack roll.
>>
>>98473410
Only if the fireball involves a strike or a weapon that needs to hit the target using Dexterity + Athletics, so if you're throwing a pre-existing object at the target. Otherwise, it's just Arete.

You know for as long as I've played world of darkness i've never read any of the novels or spend time to learn about the established characters. Do you guys think it's worth it to do so? I never got the Lucita thing though. She like Mithras former lover or whatever sometimes give me special snowflake vibes. I eventually realize that nearly all the player characters want to be special snow flakes like the npcs in world of darkness.

it states verbatim that you need an attackroll to throw a fireball. The examples in that list are not exhaustive. The fitting roll is dex+athletics for thrown weapons. It's pretty clear cut to me and like I said I never saw anybody treat it differently.

thats why you also supply enough dots of entropy to make the fireball homing or mind to precalculate the trajectory
