They look really great in all kinds of colors from metallics to bright schemes to dark schemes and even weird garish ones. If you don't like edge highlighting dry brushing works pretty well for them too, but you can get some very stunning looks with their sharp edged armor if you work at it. When it comes to play they are a very technical Army. It's very fast except when it's not, it does tons of damage except when it doesn't, and you have a lot of units to trade with up until you don't. Notoriously a faction specialist Army because it takes a lot of game knowledge to know exactly where to use all your silver bullets to get good results and not just bounce off everything and die without doing anything. Like the infamous Incubi everyone is afraid of are just a 5 -2 2 damage profile that wouldn't get a second glance in most armies. But you can layer a bunch of buffs and fling them very far with transports to do a lot of damage at the right time in the right place.

Thinking of starting Chaos Daemon army for both 40K and to dip my toes in Sigmar. Should I start with buying the World Eater Daemonkin battleforce and sell off the world eaters that come in the set and only keep the bloodcrushers and letters. I calculated that it's still slightly cheaper to buy this than to buy them separately even if I have to sell off the world eaters at 40% off retail. Then maybe buy the Hedonites of Slaanesh spearhead since all the units coming with that expect the character are 40K legal.Then maybe buy some slaves to darkness to act as coalition allies for both Hedonites of Slaanesh and Blades of Khorne. And with that I'd have a 40K Chaos Daemon army and an AOS Blades of Khorne and Hedonites of Slaanesh army.

A major reason Marines sold was just like Chaos Warriors. Big armor people are great for newcomers. Less minis but bigger and less demanding for small specific details when painting. This is why AoS tried sigmarines.

People say the biggest issue for GW is that the Xenos factions all have limited personality besides a few. With Necrons, like 99 percent of them can't speak or have emotions or ambitions. With Tyranids, NONE of them can speak I believe and don't have varied emotion or ambitions. Drukhari could probably have good writing, regular Eldar could have good writing, Tau could have good writing. Orkz would have fun writing but I don't know if necessarily good. So the writers definitely have an uphill battle. Any writing involving Chaos Space Marines I just consider to be more Imperium wank anyway.
