I need something new for my players to deal with. Can the obliterator virus infect Orcs? Has it ever infected Tau?

>>98471167>tradeMy players right now are POOR. They are the poorest of poorfags. While their colony is generating ~12 nonliquid Profit Factor right now, they have 1 liquid Profit Factor to their names. One. They've invested in a ton of infrastructure and purchased tons of exotic treasures. They realized they were hemorrhaging money, so they had to learn how to trade. They decided to send a trade expedition out. Using the trade planner, they loaded up their transport ship (that they stole via a piracy mission), and spent 8 PF to load it with 3 units of Technical Plans, 5 units of Carved Eikons, and two units of Slaves. They sent their Expedition off into the Shining Hinterlands, and hoped for the best...
>>98474886When their delegation arrived at the Shining Hinterlands, they found a bunch of stuff for sale. They sold their two units of Slaves and five units of Carved Eikons for 16 local PF, and used it to purchase 3 units of Euphoric Incense, 3 units of Rare Spices, and bought 1 unit of Surplus Resources. They turned an outflow of 8 PF into income of 18 PF so far, but they won't get that back until the ship returns home. They then sent their Trade Expedition to the New New Homeworlds to see if they could pawn off their technical data and resources for anything of use. Here's hoping they don't forget they need Profit Factor, and they sell everything they have.
>>98474908As for the captain of this Trade Expedition? I have a python script that generates captains they can hire, which makes captain generation easy.Given these amazing options, they chose...Be'pis.
I'm back to adding to the wiki. Progress is good so far! Roughly 90 talents have their own articles. Nearly halfway done. It's fun!Shas'O didn't respond to some of my queries, so some talents still have ambiguity or problems, but heyho, not a big deal. Also, this might be rather cheeky, but I'm translating it into British English, since...This is 40k, and 40k is written in British English.
>>98471385So would I then be giving them like 70s in the stuff they specialize in? Like say for the sake of argument I'm trying to put together Tyberos

Do any of the Dark Heresy 2e books have example player characters already statted out? I want to get a grip on the rules before trying to introduce and run it for my group, but it would be easier if I didn't have to also roll up 3-5 PCs while still trying to get my foot in the door doing it.
>>98475997I am legitimately unsure if any of the FFG games have premade characters. Making a character in 2e is pretty easy though, the hardest thing is just keeping track of aptitudes you get and the most rolling is for characteristics, fate points, and the divination. I don't think you should look at 2e npcs for examples since their stats are inflated compared to previous game lines. Depending on what the player wants to do, they should look at the characteristic, skill, and talent advancement tables and think of what they want to get cheaper.
>>98476081Most FFG systems had a free demo scenario with 3-6 premades designed for it and a shortened version of the rules provided. Forsaken Bounty for RT, Broken Chains for BC, Eleventh Hour for OW, forgot the name of the for Deathwatch, but it had one as well. Not sure if DH2ed received something like that as well though

There are a number of updates now in the Mega based on feedback from peeps and players.Fear and Loathing in the Eastern Fringe (v1.9.7)>Aeldari Warp Jump Generator is now properly listed in the Gear Table.>T'au and Aeldari Launch Bays now limited to the Prow slot, and Necron Launch Bays now limited to the Keel slot. -They don't work the same way Imperial Launch Bays do (P/S Only).>Pathfinder Special Ability and Talents Swapped-My players pointed out to me that every class that gets a "metacurrency" ex. Necron Nemesor Command Protocols, Triarch Praetorian Honor, Drukhari Pain Tokens, etc start with the ability to gain these immediately, with further uses across the class. The Pathfinder did not, instead starting with the Structural Analyzer ability, and being forced to purchase their Recon Sweep talent to use Recon Data. The Pathfinder now starts with Recon Sweep as a special ability, and Structural Analyzer has been moved to a Rank 1 talent, synchronizing it with all other metacurrency classes. The Fringe is Yours (v1.13.30)>Drukhari Launch Bays and Impaler Bays are now limited to the Prow slot. -They don't work the same way Imperial Launch Bays do (P/S Only). The Good, the Bad, and the Alpha Legion (v1.12.16)>Standardized Tank Hunter talent prerequisites to BS 40 to synchronize with Only War version (Affects Iron Hands and Centurion Siege Breakers)>Standardized Modify Payload talent prerequisites to Demolition, since Demolition was folded into Tech Use in Only War. How long does it take for a Tau to mature? I'm reading the 3rd edition codex and it describes the Fire caste as starting life as a line trooper, and if they survive 16 years they retire. Is this just a miscommunication on the writers end, or is your average fire warrior aged 0-4?
>>98476912Non-ethereal Tau only live to about 40 years without rejuvenats. There's a bit in the farsight book where he as a trainee causes a scene in his academy, and he's about 4 years old, equivalent to an 8 year old human. Surviving 16 years after 8 years of training basically gives a tau 16 years of life left. It's like how the Romans did it, you signed up at 16 for a 20-year stint, leaving you in your late 30's by the end, and could sign up for another 20 year stint as an Evocatus.
>>98475405I appreciate this attention to detail and respect for the lore, anon. That’s why I only use imperial units while discussing space missions and air conditioning.
One of my players threatened to kill me because I "retconned the soul out of 40k" in my game. All I've done is remove a few grimderp elements and it turned into a big argument after I told him this. What do I do about him? We're 3 sessions deep into rogue trader and he's the rogue trader player.
>>98478900>All I've done is remove a few grimderp elementsShit GM minimizes his own actions to make himself sound more reasonable. Many such cases. If you really were in the right, you wouldn't be afraid to explicitly tell us what you've done. Anyway, in the end the only solution is to get rid of him. Even if I think you suck, it's your game, and these things only get worse, not better.
>>98479058>you wouldn't be afraid to explicitly tell us what you've doneAll I've done so far is make servitors actual droids without actual AI, made servo skulls into robotic drones that resemble skulls rather than being actual skulls, and fixed all the grimderp battlefleet gothic shit (ships now have autoloaders instead of having weird age of sail manual cannon batteries, way smaller crews, gellar fields aren't powered by dreaming psyker batteries, they don't have to sacrifice someone to refuel the warp drive, etc). The players haven't really discovered the latter stuff or mentioned it, but the player in question got mad when he described prodding a servitor's fleshy bits when giving it an order and I said "they don't have fleshy bits, this servitors and all those around it look purely robotic" and he RP'd making some comment about "unique archeotech servitors" and I said "no, they're all like that, they're not lobotomized cyborg slaves in my game" and he got really fucking upset and it escalated from there. There's other changes I plan on making but I haven't ironed them out yet. I'll need to make sure I find another player to take over his role before actually formally removing him from the game, but it needs to be within a week, because he's basically told me he won't play anymore until I reverse my changes, which won't be happening. The other players seem more ambivalent, they're newbies to 40k.
>>98479094>you turn 40k into star wars like a retard instead of just running a star wars game, and not only that, you do it while introducing 40k to complete noobs>the one player who is actually into 40k is understandably against this, because he signed up for a 40k game, not a star wars game>when he gets mad about this, you argue back and some shit that you're obviously not mentioning happens that escalates the argument, resulting in your player "threatening to kill you," which you're probably exaggerating or just straight up lying about to garner sympathy on a mongolian basket weaving forumkys
>>98479094None of that is...oh, it's a troll post. You're trying to move the slippery slope of what real 40k is and cause another shitstorm.

>>98479094>Actually went the Chinese SMT Demon censorship route for a real life tabletop gameThat's hilariousIs there a reason why you decided against showcasing the Imperium's inhumanity and failings when it comes to technology, or is it just too icky for your table?Because I'm also running a table that's a mix of fans and newcomers and so far the newcomers had no issues with that stuff, but I asked them ahead of time to make sure anyway

Servitors and servo-skulls LITERALLY be lobotomized cyborg slaves and actual skulls makes no logistical sense compared to just making them artificial robots, robots don't need AI to work. I've also taken into account that some servitors operate like AI if they do more complex tasks, so I've replaced those (such as bridge servitors) with mentats from Dune, that way it doesn't violate the AI ban the Imperium has. Also, any advanced behavior exhibited by servitors that have not a strip of organic matter in them (like mine) can be attritbuted to the fact that machine spirits exist in 40k, these robots are literally possessed by spirits. It's just grimderp for the Mechanicus, an otherwise logical faction, to use literal cyborg slaves when they can do this instead. Same goes for servo-skulls, they can just honor the human form with wholly artificial skulls instead of defacing dead bodies. It makes no sense that an otherwise logic-driven faction would do something like that, nevermind that it's so flagrantly fucking evil and stupid that nobody in their right mind would just accept it as a normal thing in everyday life. As for the other stuff...what are you talking about? Manual macrocannons has been discussed thousands of times online, and the fandom consensus is that it's stupid and makes no sense, that's not a "failing when it comes to technology," it's just stupid. Humans are competent.
>>98479094For those who don't realise, this appears to be that one guy who gets angry about other people not 40king the way he thinks 40k should be 40k'd, so he's making a fake scenario. His plan is for us all to agree his scenario isn't 40k, so he can "gotcha" us into supporting his argument.

hey guys, only war gm anon herelast session nothing much happened, but THIS session, a lot didthey prepared a big ambush for the orks, culminating in them dropping a building on the orks, blowing up a bunch of trucks, warbuggies, and deffkoptas, and even a looted tank. then they did a hasty fighting retreat, gunning down orks and blowing up a few more vehicles before finally getting to the final point, a bridge they had to cross before it was blown up to cut off the orksthe whole party managed it, but unfortunately the other two squads of guardsmen with them were either turned to paste by a tank shell or bogged down by orks and sacrificed before the bulk of the ork forces could cross the bridge and ruin everything. they will be missed (maybe).very happy with how things turned out, everyone felt pretty useful and had fun and I had funi would post an image of something i made, but apparently my IP range can't post images, so have a catbox link if it works https://files.catbox.moe/x9ja94.png

What are reasonable character aspirations in Imperium Maledictum or the other older FFG games? The power scale seems to be firmly into unremarkable disposable regular humans and my D&D-brained table wants to try it out. I just want to get a sense of what a character would look like if you really hustled and saved up or took advantage of any opportunity to make money and connections, how "big" could your character make it in terms of wealth and power? A mansion in a cushy Pleasure World? A personal voidship you can use during shore leave?
>>98480666There can be any fucking thing you like. At least up to the point of something so big or important it's weird no one in canon mentions it, like functional megastructures.
>>98482753They have those too, to a very limited extent. The Ring of Iron, or the entirety of Ryza, or the orkish/necron battle planetoids. There's definitely a place for old abandoned ones being rediscovered and ruined by the fighting to reclaim them, though.
>>98482677Kind of depends on where you start. A Hive Scum's motivation could be to become a legend or a crimeboss of the local underworld or to get himself in some better social position. Meanwhile a Space Marine will care more about dilligently serving the Emperor, perfecting his skills and achieving glory for himself and his chapter. A regular person in a correct career path (usually one of the adepta, but not necessarily) can theoretically rise to a decently respectable, influential and comfortable position, but it takes lots of luck, skill and political manoeuvring
>>98471727YES.That was an actual thumper.I'mma pour one out for my homie Barry real quick.
>>98482919>Hive Scum's motivation could be to become a legend or a crimeboss of the local underworld or to get himself in some better social positionI'm still a lorelet when it comes to 40k so if some hive scum got picked out to be an acolyte and worked for the =][= and managed to survive a few years to the point where he's got his own gang and his own base of operations, is that still low enough in the power scale to be bossed around by an inquisitor to do his dirty work along with the other acolytes, or is it more of a "an inquisitor can boss around almost anyone as long as he's got the proper leverage" situation?
>>98480739>What's some decent virtual table top software for something like dark heresy?Callidia group plays on roll20 and it's functional.
>>98483043If he's not yet rosetted and officially recognised as a full-fledged Inquisitor, he's still de jure beholden to an Inquisitor's sway, if not protected by his own Inquistor handler and if not connected enough to dismiss the summons. The Inquisition stands above and apart from all others, officially, but as with anything in the Imperium, de facto power is everything.
>>98483043In theory an inquisitor has carte blanche to execute anybody he likes on the spot.In practice people tend to object violently.Nobody is immune on paper. And the inquisition has the right to just requisition imperial agents and equipment, so if an inquisitor wants you dead, and his acolytes fail to remove the problem surgically, he could literally just collar the local PDF garrison to declare war on you with tanks and aircraft.Or Space Marines, Sororitas.Dabbling with Chaos shit?He might even get the Grey Knights to do a visitation.Presumably them Custodians have some form of immunity to inquisitorial bs, being the bodyguards of the emperor, but all their recent developments have been gay and I don't think about them much. They shoulda stayed in the palace.
>>98483043"Power scale" is completely the wrong way to think of it. An Inquisitor has huge formal power within the Imperium's institutions, but that's not enough to get anything done. A rosette that says you can boss around a planetary governor doesn't save you if it's easier for the governor to cover up having you killed. Why would a gang leader do what an Inquisitor wants? Well it's pretty easy for them to sic the Arbites or a rival gang on them for a start. Or they might be paid for it. Or they might consider themselves a loyal Imperial subject, or owe a favour, or be convinced it's in his interest anyway.
>>98483078>>98483069>>98483065Thank you for the responses, after reading more of the patron factions in Imperium Maledictum is it fair to say working for Rogue Traders and Inquisitors offer the most variety and freedom both from the perspective of creating adventures from the GM side and for thinking about how to develop your characters player side? I mean it would make sense since they also have their own books, I imagine if a table would be working for the IG or Navy it would be more limiting in terms of what happens in the game.
>>98483260Inquisitors are probably the easiest because it's simple to to get them interested in any particular mission. But in general any patron will have shit they want done but can't involve their conventional forces. And their interests don't always have to align with their official position.
>>98483058It's functional, certainly, but it's still only automating a few things and making sheets easier to write. It's still a pain in the ass.>t. Callidianon's GM
Here's a question for peeps. When you're looking at starships in Rogue Trader, what is a signifier to you that immediately says to you "This ship type is best in its class", ex. best Raider, best Frigate, etc? Do you look at raw stats? Do you look for unique qualities inherent to the hull? Maybe a ship can do something no other ships of its class can do? I'd like to hear examples of what other peeps look for.For instance, when I look at Raiders, I personally identify the Shrike as best because it has a quality Advanced Cogitator Linkage that makes it more effective in combat over other Raiders. Alternatively, when I look at Light Cruisers, I identify the Secutor as best because not only can it 3-tap certain fire arcs, something no other cruiser can do, it can also equip components other cruisers cannot. If I look at Grand Cruisers, I identify the Corinus/Repulsive as best because it can 4-tap in certain directions with the capability of fielding a varied weapon loadout compared to other grand cruisers. What makes a voidship "best" in your eyes, and where do you draw the line that says "this is too much"?
>>98485245Space available is always what gets me. More room for broken archeotech stuff.
>>98472489A dormant macrobeest awakens!
>>98485272This. It's actually at the point that at my table I've had all ships have their Space determined by class, because otherwise they just gunned for the most Space they could get without too many downsides every single time. This way they at least look at the other hulls.
>>98485245Capability gaps. What does this do that other hulls of its class can't? Is it faster, larger, tougher, does it have more weapon mounts or space? Is there anything this lacks that other hulls have - again, speed, armor, hull integrity, weapon mounts, and yes, space? It's a complicated calculus, because there's no one right answer. Everything is important, and a dump stat anywhere is a grievous vulnerability or an impossible hurdle. Lacking an obvious malus, you have to weigh the various benefits to see if anything sticks out. I'd take +1 speed over +1 armor over +1 space, but I might take +5 space over +1 armor, or +10 over +1 speed. It really depends what the strengths of the hull are and what I could turn it into.
Long story short my ship is running out of food due to an Orc attack destroying the area where the food was stored. We jumped into an area that fought off a hive fleet. Can you eat tyranid meat? Don't care about taste just want to know if its edible.

Not the classic 40k rpg but still applies. I'm soon going to play a Wrath And Glory game with some friends, some are pretty hardcore fans who've been in the hobby for years, but theres a couple who are interested but have only really played a few of the recent 40k video games. Any reccomendations on the best way to speed run the lore so they'll be on the same page and can enjoy the game and hobby more?

You guys lied to me, Wrath and Glory is fun as hell.
You guys lied to me. Imperium Maledictum is better than Dark Heresy.
>>98489943I had a group like that, but fortunately they were actually really great at the rogue'ing part and general adventuring/intriguing and roleplay, so it was still a pretty sweet campaign. I just gave them a very dedicated npc seneschal to handle all of the actual trade empire stuff

It just plays very well.

Formerly a suave smooth talking gentleman, IMMEDIATELY mutated HARD, now a horrifying frog man with a 100 in intimidation. Has very mixed feelings about that. Absolute beast in a fight and our ace in the hole, recently was key to busting us out of a Drukhari prison. Probably a little insane, no longer has the authority to execute crew members after he abused it too much.
There's something that smells sloppish in the Imperium Maledictum adventure in the starter set. Maybe I'm just too slop-brained but the way the locations and characters are named and their little blurbs in pic rel give me pause. Also the main location being called the Cathedrum of Rationed Beneficence was what rang the alarm bells for me.

>>98493144We haven’t done that one. By memory, we started with bloody gates, jumped over to grim harvest, then did wings of valkyries, shards of ul khari, lord of the spire, pilgrims of the wastes, and the scrap grab as an ork one-off that’s going to turn into a separate campaign due to player demand. The only one that ran in a somewhat logical fashion without significant effort from the GM was grim harvest. The scrap grab was incomplete to the point of being little more than an outline, but I knew that going in and was actually looking to see if I could still wing a complete session from mental notes only, so that was fine. In one of this is a problem for an experienced GM that’s familiar with the lore but I can see someone new getting badly tripped up. Also, the occasional gender swap from he/she to them/they strongly suggests multiple writers working on each title with no internal style guide and very poor editing.Interestingly enough, we all had the most fun with scrap grab, but I suspect that this had far more to do with playing as orks than anything else. Everyone likes orks. And yes, I did enforce a rule that all in character speech had to be done like proppa orkses, no muckin about allowed.
>>98494575Wrangling this shit to be functional is fucking maddening, i had to choose between him looking generically handsome and him looking like a featureless blob. It also constantly makes Godwinne into an old man because of his light hair instead of an albino, refuses to keep his scarred eye looking the way it should, turns Pul Pot human, and wont give Polly big enough Gazongas. I'd kill half my (non officers) crew for a good drawfag joining the party. It feels like they're way less common now than they used to be, and not just because of AI, they started becoming rare in like 2018-2019 in my experience.
>>98492209Yeah I've got some issues with it mostly in balance and how it can get a little shallow in places, and overall I prefer the character building of the FFG games, but for a certain type of game WANG can't be beat.
Do you think Warhammer 40k would work without chaos? Just Human vs xeno, no warp or anything related to it?
>>98497868Might be able to pull it off if you don't think about it at all and just run with what looks cool non-stop like SpaceKing but that's harder to do with ttrpgs because we end up having to explain and detail things more than for a wargame. Could go the other way and make it more like generic scifi human empire power armour stuff, there's lots of that, Starship Troopers to Helldivers to Gates of Antarees to that one I forget but has several videos, shit. they basically look like master chief. Anyway. Do you still want the religious overtones?
>>98497868I mean depending on what specifically you're doing yeah. You could do an Only War campaign without any chaos if you're only fighting xenos and rebels. Travel would be hard if you're trying to avoid the warp entirely but eh
>>98497868No. The setting was built around humanity and chaos. Removing one half of that equation makes it generic.
>>98498115>Travel would be hard if you're trying to avoid the warp entirely but ehNah, plenty of warp travel goes by unimpeded and without demonic incursion. They just like to highlight when it goes awry because that's most entertaining.
>>98497240>mostly in balanceHow so? Not disagreeing, just curious.>a little shallow in placesThe lack of (debatably unnecessary) granularity?
>>98481427GBA page 117>OVERSEER’S RETINUE>Attachment to a Legion Overseer was seen as both symbolic and practical for mortal auxilia forces. You only get these benefits when purchasing this talent, and you don't have to get the talent when you become an Overseer.
>>98498166I meant if he wanted to leave the warp out entirely as a concept, but yeah I can see what you mean specifically.>>98498150To be entirely real the first Rogue Trader book didn't feature Chaos at all until a splatbook added it, and you can tell compelling narratives without the use of chaos. Is it one of the more unique parts of Warhammer in all three of its' settings? 100% But it's not a thing that you need to include wholesale in every story.
>>98498534To clarify, I mean the 1987 Rogue Trader book not the rpg books that came later. Chaos was first added in the '88 book Slaves to Darkness
>>98498534Rogue Trader and 2nd edition are 40k's growing pains, the setting as we know it today didn't really coalesce until 3rd edition.
>>98497868Psykers are so central to 40k that it would not work. Even the xenos are defined by their psykers. You'd just be throwing away nearly half of all lore.
>>984985813rd edition marked the point at which Warhammer started going downhill.
>>98498581Right but you get what I mean when I say that you can straight up run an RPG game and not use chaos if you focus on other/the right things, yeah?
How powerful are Gork and Mork in relation to the Chaos gods? They don't feed on most of the galaxy like the Chaos Gods do but they are the only ones who feed off the Orcs so where do they sit power scale wise?
>>98499063There are only stories about G&M kicking the other gods' asses. Orks fight and win.
>>98499063Orks are the most psychic race in the galaxy by far and cannot even comprehend their gods having trouble in a fight. Gork and Mork wipe the floor with absolutely everyone but each other
>>98499063Gork and Mork are too busy fighting each other to give a shit. Even when they got tardwrangled like in AoS and kicked the shit out of Chaos eventually they got bored, ripped themselves back into two separate gods and started beating the shit out of each other and also things around them. Trying to powerscale is just retarded though. It's a book, whoever they want to win will win.
While rolling my expanse, I just generated a Non-Imperial Human civilization and an alliance of Xenos Species that are unambiguously the good guys according to the dice chart. No, I'm not kidding: these Xenos are egalitarian Star Trek Ayyys and the humans are a democratic society with a xenophilic bent. I'm reading pic related in preparation for the future campaign and what my table will encounter.

>>98499840Hence why I'm reading Humanity Lost. The theme will probably be lost on the table who will just be slaughtering Xenos, but they are truly the villains. And they won't realize it which is the best part of it all. 40k games get interesting when they go off the rails, like I'm watching a documentary about the Stanford Prison Experiment or the Unabomber in Tabletop form.
>>98499850>>98499853Not in 40k. They're going straight to hell.

>>98500035This is going to be a fun experiment.
>>98499177I'd argue the old ones if any still exist. Or humanity by virtue of the chaos gods considering their material manifestations.
>>98499810Imperium of Man vs. the United Federation of Planets
>>98500635I actually think the 'all Xenos are le bad' thing is a product of Nu40k because, for some apparent reason, new players needed the Imperium to be 'right' despite earlier rulebooks often sounding so propagandistic in tone, they were frequently well past the point of parody. The first edition of Rogue Trader even had the Imperium as a satire of Authoritarianism with over-the-top character designs evocative of Rifts or Teenage Mutant Ninja fucking Turtles of all things. Look at pic related for Christ's sake. That is the most over the top Space Marine, like something Captain Marvel or Hulk would beat up in an old comic book. The comic you posted, Humanity Lost, was even partly inspired by 40k. The author wanted to show what the Imperium looked like through the eyes of an Alien and he completely succeeded.
>>98500994What's fascinating about Humanity Lost is how it's clearly a play on 40k. Here Humanity, also called the Imperium, is the dominant faction. They're massive and virtually unstoppable, united by a psionic God whose presence can be felt through the galaxy. But in order to achieve perfection, the God AI called 'Mother,' genetically engineered mankind to be the ultimate being capable of beating back the Alien Conglomerate just like a certain someone. The entire comic is clearly inspired by 40k, and the HFY that permeates Science Fiction.
>>98501086I've never heard of this. Is it grim dark like 40k? How deep does the parody/inspiration go?
>>98500635erm akshually ,the guards were told to act cruel in the experiment
>>98498805NTA I think it would be hard to do without also scraping out psychers and the danger the are to everyone around them and making flt really boring. Warp entities escaping into the material realm and demonic possession was there from the start.
>>98500994>all Xenos are le bad' thing is a product of Nu40kIt absolutely is. As a service to our newfrens and lorelets I'll bring up Illiyan Nastase from the old lore. Many of you will have to Google that name and that's fine. Illiyan was a half eldar who>became an astronaut>eventually became chief librarian of the ultramarines >held rank and wore power armor but was not actually an ultramarine despite being chief librarian >did I mention that he was half eldar?Yeah, the lore was something else back then.
>>98503178>astronaut>astropath Goddamn it I hate phoneposting.
>>98503178>Many of you will have to Google that name and that's fine. Not anymore. Illiyan Nastase came back in the Dawn of Fire books...as a full-blood aeldari assistant to Roboute Guilliman. The two respect one another.
>>98503509Somehow that makes even less sense than the RT version.
>>98503523He was appointed by Eldrad to coordinate a joint military campaign on a specific front, and stuck around because his talents as a Farseer were too valuable for Guilliman to reject. He and his honor guard stuck around for like 300 years and kept Guilliman from doing retarded things like dueling the Silent King or making daemonhost attack dogs.
>>98503538>making daemonhost attack dogs.u wot
>>98503544In Dark Imperium book 3, Guilliman had the Grey Knights make a daemonhost to learn more about Mortarion's bullshit. It caused him to lose the loyalty of the grey knights because they didn't like it. This gave Guilliman the knowledge to enter the warp and job to Mortarion but allowed the Emperor to scorch part of Nurgle's garden and halt the then-active nurgle push...allowing Khorne to rise ascendant and start bullshit on armageddon.
>>98502259Sure, they were. And even if they had, they still could've acted against them which to me, is one of the darkest takeaways by far.
>>98503723No, he's correct. It's a bunk experiment that doesn't actually prove anything and isn't relevant to anything, and bringing it up in public discourse despite that is either irresponsible or completely pointless. Empty noise except for the vague possibility of harm by promoting falsehoods.
>>98498406The pricing on a lot of talents is sorta wonky, and XP can be kind of tight in the system. Put another way, 1000xp can make a character instantly busted, or make it seem like they spent nothing at all. My group tends to reevaluate prices a lot. I'm also not a huge fan of how the character building math works out because of the skill pyramid - I think they made skills cheaper once, but personally I think if they want to keep the skill pyramid they need to be made even cheaper.>The lack of (debatably unnecessary) granularity?Mostly rank and tier ascension. They're sorta wonky with how you move between them, and if you follow the book of increasing rank based on playtime, you basically have guardsmen going from good sprinters to running at mach 10 in just a few in-game hours. That's not really a BAD thing, mind you, but I've never met a group that actually gets a lot done in our fourish hour sessions.

I'm looking for low impact ways to 'enhance' high xp pcs with awarded talents. Or ideas for those talents. For example, letting a psyker have sanctified on all his attacks and claiming they truedeath daemons - congrats, you're a baby godling or channel the emperor or whatever. If I had a null instead I'd probably let them do some sort of soul eating like the space marines do with brains for tiny bits of information, but I don't. The tech priest has a nanohive that slowly repairs all his gear and acts as a juvenat treatment. Stuff that's nice to have but doesn't actually impact gameplay.Ideas for other stuff for the 'normies' in the crowd? I don't want to just say "oh here's your volkite archeotech btw" while feting the other two. Shit, I'll take ideas for the tech priest and psyker if you've got some for the future.

2 questions about Terra:How does a person get to meet the Emperor? What steps are needed for those not being fed to the Throne? Do the Sister of Silence use standard American Sign Language or something else?
In my game a noble woman (one of my players) in saw a pysker perform and asked if he was available for her son's birthday party. Can they do that? Put on "magic shows" at children's parties?
>>98510609Absolutely. Just... you can imagine how fucked you are if you make the massive mistake of summoning a daemon at a noble scion's birthday party.
>>98510609There are definitely minor effects that might be shown off, or something like, fuck if I know, "electrocute this serf for my amusement" by a noble brat demanding the psyker do it, but like the other guy said there's chance of phenomenally poor outcomes.
>>98510611I’d imagine that everyone at the party would fucked to some degree, especially after the Inquisition hears about it.

A new version of GBAL is now on the Mega.https://mega.nz/folder/ouxCVIJD#ZdGQx36Dg4I3GfM7-kyoYwThe Good, the Bad, and the Alpha Legion (v1.13.8)Changelog:>Fixed numerous typos>Fixed numerous instances of text boxes cut off>Excindio Killbot now has 25 fellowship, so it can use its Deceive skill-That's a 25% chance of tricking a retard into letting it go wild>Cortex Controller now mentions regular Domitars alongside the Ferrum variety.>Clarified the Machinator Array cybernetic replaces the identically-named talent.>The Gal Vorbak Tzeentch Gift that gives him Psy 4 can now also boost existing psy by 4.-The Gal Vorbak was designed at a time where the 1kSons were the only Legion that could get psychic bullshit. Over the years, they added more, so this should help it play nice with the newer stuff like the Esoterist.>Phoenix Champion talent Sudden Strike renamed to Swift Charge to prevent name mismatch with Dark Fury talent.>Consul Saboteur talent Assassin's Shot renamed to Headtaker to prevent name mismatch with Headhunter Prime.>Fixed Overseer's Retinue to apply when taking the talent, not taking the specialization.>Added the Phraetus Disciple as a Terminator option, alongside their Warpfire Mantles as wargear>Added the Osiraean Ushapt as a Terminator option, alongside the Osiraean Discipline of psychic powers, which can be used by them and Osirion Dreads.Of these changes, the text box cutoffs are the most concerning. Every time I fix them, more show up. The issue stems from the fact that some text is being changed from font Times New Roman to font ColumbusMT, and I don't know if this is a Word version mismatch or file corruption issues. Either way, it's infuriating to deal with. I will continue to fix things as I or other peeps find them, but I am starting to get concerned that the constant fixes are the source of the issue. As always, let me know if peeps find any issues.

Edge of Darkness "Intermission" oneshot session due to half the group being unable to play this week. Mostly using backup characters and one-off made ones.>Sister Venria, shrine world Battle Sister who compensates for her 22 agility by being armed with power armor and a bolter. >Son of Durrand, feudal world ex-noble duelist/cleric that was basically bought out by the inquisitor. >Novus Oarke, schola graduated guardsman aimed at becoming an officer, using a monosaber and laspistol>Plus two conscripts, a penal legionaire chemtrooper and a guard trooper brought in for combat aptitude. Both fitted with explosive collars. The killteam is deployed from a orbiting cruiser via valkyrie onto a local feudal world that produces large amounts of ore and specialty minerals from the tithe, searching for a cult that had taken up refuge in a crashed Lunar class cruiser that had landed partly through the capitol hive-city and was seen as a sign of legitimacy by the monarchy governor. The cult had infiltrated the local military command structure, and as such they were sent to "cut out the cancer" as it were. Deploying onto the hive city, they are accompanied by a small escort of guardsmen as well as a chimera armed with multi-laser, heavy bolter and heavy stubber. Their escort guides them through the hive streets and out of the main hive, following along the some of the cult members surging out of the wreckage of the ship but get gunned down by the mounted weapons plus firing ports as the chimera takes them to where the local cult is believed to have been holed up. Initial resistance from some cultists is mostly handily dealt with via frag grenades and purchased fire bombs during creation. Using some las-cutters to cut into the sealed officer's mess, the kill team is greeted by a robed, hooded figure.
>>98515014In the officer's mess, the encounter a tall, robed figure standing over two meters tall behind a makeshift altar where a figure bulging with muscle and sinew sits completely still. It turns, revealing ceramite armour and a half broken Mk. V helmet, where the newly revealed heretic astartes greets them calming as "new pilgrims, lost in their faith to false gods" and using psyker powers to catch fired bolt shells before letting them explode midair. He rambles at the party slightly before speaking to the body on the table, instructing his "new brother" to prove himself. The cult champion lurches upward, bonded with a daemon and awakening properly as it rises from the table and prepares to fight.>They were not expected to fight the CSM at all. This is just foreshadowing a later antagonist that might be motivating other antagonists. I am not expecting bumfuck acolytes to be able to take down a partially posessed marine. Except maybe with lucky crits as what happens soon after so who knows. This campaign is planned to involve elements of Death Watch and other systems due to varied player interest. I'm not *that* over/underestinmating them.Fear tests involving the heretic astartes plus a daemon possessed body leaves most of the party except Ventria struck still, the sister taking a bolt pistol shell through the thigh for her trouble, but returning with a semi-auto barrage that heavily hits the possessed while the sorcerer uses Space Slip to get away to another level of the ship. The other members of the kill team do their best to try and whittle down the possessed, but it's ruined carapace armour and natural toughness keeps soaking up their damage. They do their best to space out and lay down suppression but the Fearless talent/trait means it's refusing to get pinned down and into a place easy to grenade the shit out of. But it works for them in the end.
>>98515019Sister Venria throws a firebomb and gets Righteous Fury three times on her roll for a total of 43 damage that completely evaporates the possessed cult champion and leaves it practically a pile of ash on the ground; described as golden light enshrounding the bomb as it lands in a hole left from the prior bolter wounds, before the firebomb consumes it entirely in a flash of flame and light. With the posessed dead and the way clear they forge onward with their secondary objective to detonate a plasma generator to wipe out the section of the ship that they're in and eliminate the cult. The last remnants of the cult still able to fight spring an ambush with the help of renegade guard members, setting up a mounted stubber to try and pin them down, but with the use of blind grenades and frags they manage to clear out the opposition and retreat. Venria remains blessed with righteous fury while using firebombs and helps clear out the weapons team. The team manages to retreat from the plasma generator and pull out of the ship wreckage for pickup where the session ended. Overall felt like a very fun one-shot to run and players said they enjoyed it "but (they) are worried that we'll have to see that word bearer again" so I take that as a win. If people are tired of storytime let me know.
Is The Great Horned Rat still a chaos god in 40k? How would that work without Skraven?
>>98513257More women will suddenly discover they are into it when the series debuts. Same thing happened with LotR and Marvel comics characters
>>98515311Fashion, chap. Some women are into whatever is "big right now".But these women don't really like the thing for itself, and are generally not actually invested at all.So if you aren't Chad, they still won't let you fingerbang them in the taxi after two martinis.
>>98506988Little oldfag GM trick here: if a NPC is going to have more than a line or two, think about a similar character that you’ve seen in a movie and rip it off. Unless you do something silly like using catchphrases from that movie, your players will never know. I was going to say to practice lines on your way to work or in the shower but then I remembered where I was, so I’ll modify that to practicing while you’re alone and engaged in a mindless activity.
>>98515292>Is The Great Horned Rat still a chaos god in 40k? How would that work without Skaven? It just works. A Skaven daemon prince was present in the Siege of Terra."You say, ‘As I thought,’ as though you were testing them. ‘We have Kweethul, and there, his steeds, and here the juggernauts...(and a bunch of other daemons)...and all of them. All that is and was and ever will be."
>>98515292Depends on how you want to view the nature of the Realm of Chaos, but I'd say so. Since there's no Skaven it makes sense why the GHR isn't prominent in 40k. However, GHR's main domain as a god is ruin, with a bit about inheriting the ruin. If you want to point at a main faction who probably worships him, the Black Legion's ultimate goal is bringing the galaxy to ruin.
>>98516265>KweethulThey made him a daemon of someone else? Look how they massacred my boy.
another successful session of only wartasked with destroying a re-purposed factory used by the orks to produce trukks and killa kans, the players trekked through the sewers, were attacked by kommandos hiding in rubble, barrels, and a trash can, and then found the factoryafter a bit of sneaking, the squad's best sneaker snuck into the factory to place a detcharge on the fuel storage. he failed his first roll, used a fate point to re-roll, and failed with 5 degrees of failure. he exploded, destroying half the factory and himselfmission accomplished!!!

How to remove the grimdark (more like grimderp) from 40k rpgs? I really like 40k but hate the grimdark, i want there to be hope and for my players to meet primarchs and whatnot
>>98521225
>>98519054There are entire regiments doing purge and burn of ork corpses and fungus warrens. Even space marines leave behind kill teams to purge genestealer infestations, sometime it takes years and or long enough the marines go rogue like Constantinius. There's presumably the reformed PDF made out of whatever locals and IG are fit for it. Entire sections of the Admech are about making flat landing spaces and beachheads and combat engineers so some of that, the administratum, the Ecclesiarchy likely getting involved because their motivated and its a good time to get faith in there for future political reasons, the ordo xenos.
I had an idea to make my tau character use ciphers that could only be seen on different light spectrums, since tau visual spectrum extends a little more into the ultraviolet and infrared wavelengths. I know this would save me against humans, but can eldar and orks see these ranges too? Would kind of defeat the purpose if it only deceives humans.
>>98521805You're in luck. The ork can see it but doesn't care because its weedy blue runt doodles. The eldar can see it but doesn't care much because its primitive graspings of a fledgling race etching the first notions of deception and subterfuge an ancient art perfected by their race long before the stars sang out in their blahblebhablh
>>98505160That's all fair, but in its defense I don't think that I've ever seen a system where all of the character add ons were perfectly balanced, particularly after the first splatbook.>you basically have guardsmen going from good sprinters to running at mach 10 in just a few in-game hoursAgain, that's pretty much every game. The solution (if anyone even cares) is to award XP all at once between adventures, with character improvements taking place out of game. I was actually doing that decades before I ever touched WaG, but it was to ease my administrative burden as GM, not for the purposes of perceived realism.
>>98521805How would these ciphers work exactly? If they're only visible under certain light spectrums are you bringing around a pen to use the right invisible ink all the time or a light to make sure your eyes catch it?
>>98522269Yeah, I figured I could get a UV ink/pen and use the Ciphers skill to leave messages.>>98521879Damn.
>>98522316To be entirely real I think unless for some reason writing in the Tau language is unavailable for you, that'd be far easier and more secure almost every time, but don't let that stop you from using a fun idea.
What happens to girls born on space marine worlds?
>>98524291Nothing special, why would there be? While children are liable to be tested for the chapter, only the boys are taken, so the girls just do whatever they would normally do, alongside the vast majority of the boys who aren't taken. Space marine worlds don't have to pay taxes because the chapter itself is taxed separately, so there's less chance of being drafted. I can't think of anything else.
>>98522269Unfortunately, invisible ink is very easy to detect with modern methods such as 'check for indents in the paper' or 'look for slight discoloration' or 'hold it at an angle and see if any bits reflect differently'
>>98505484Ultras aren't really the type to go around putting saints or pin-upson things, but Space marines sometimes have 'personal Heraldry', perhaps use some of that?
>>98512986Now do all his pdfs in one location at their current version.
>>98524324Are chapters taxed? From my understanding, chapters are separate political entities who are allied with the Imperium due to their loyalties to the Emperor and the Primarchs. Taxing a chapter itself, or even the territories it claims, is a good way to get a renegade chapter (just look at the Badab War).
>>98525601No.It's probably better to think of the Imperium like the HRE, except with even more byzantine bureaucracy and balkanisation. It's a thousand tiny empires bolted together into one. Space Marines are generally exempt from all but gene seed tithes and sometimes even that is forgivable, depending. If I remember right captain dickhead mostly got away with conquering a few planets and slapping tithe exempt status on them.
>>98525622>Be rogue trader>Ally with marine chapter>Declare that they can recruit from every world in your protectorate>Never pay taxes againExplain why this wouldn’t work
>>98526424The Marines in question would tell you to bugger off and quit meddling in Astartes matters.
>>98526424Marines can recruit from anywhere that will let them (or that can't stop them), but that doesn't make it a marine recruitment world that's exempt from tithes.
>>98525426That's the ultimate goal! Alas, i am but one wageslave finding slivers of time between labours.
>>98517986If you have a player who’s character is an important specialist and they’re the only one who dies, do you just have them roll up another of the same specialist or make do without?
Dumb question that there probably isn't an answer to, but who organizes the Missionarius Galaxia? I mean like who in the Ecclesiarchy is it under? Gonna be playing one in an upcoming RT game, and this info will probably never come up, but I'm just trying to get into the role.
>>98526424There's a difference between "tithe free fiefdom" and "recruiting station". Also rogue traders don't usually pay taxes anyway
>>98528129It's generally organised on a sector/ subsector basis, nominally headed by a senior member of the ruling Ecclesiarchal Synod for that area. Some are in it for political reasons (won/ lost local power struggle), others to build a following in preparation for an eventual attempt at promotion.A rare few are there because they genuinely believe that the highest calling of the Adeptus Ministorum is to spread the correct version (ie. their particular version) of worship of the God-Emperor to all of humanity, both within and without the boundaries of the Imperium.
DH anons and gms, any suggestions for how to stat a character coming from a feudal world? Just treat it as a normal Imperial world or would something like a feral fit better?
>>98529324There's already a homeworld for it in 2e, I think there's one in 1e. Otherwise we'd need to know more.
>>98529502Two of my players were planning to play feudal world nobles. One a former armiger pilot who got exiled, the other a mercenary who got snapped up by the inquisitor
>>98529572Sorry, to clarify this is 1e.
>>98529572Both will have reasonable memories and be physically tough, but probably not well educated. The former knight pilot will have a better set of knowledge due to the helm download. The pilot will have some very basic tech use. The mercenary probably prefers melee and uses tough, reliable weapons where he must use range - either lasguns or very large and heavy stubbers, depending on how long he's been out of feudal worlds. Both are very faithful, but probably not blatantly - the former pilot likely thanks the emperor and omnissiah without thinking about it, while the mercenary likely has a dog earred prayer book and a passing familiarity with the Imperial Cult since he wasn't protected by his status from politics as much as the pilot. Likely each has a stupid hobby from the nobility - the mercenary might sing, for example, while the Knight might work devotional art into metal (A mix of Imperial and Mechanicus stuff, likely, irritating both cults).
I was searching around Amazon and found that they sell the Book of Law from Judge Dredd. Is there a place where I can buy/download The Codex Astartes? I've never see a copy at a hobby store.
Edge of Darkness pt 4.Resuming right in as the acolytes enter the Chirurgeon's workshop, Kestian and Hastus pass out instantly from the fear tests while Prometheus effectively shits himself and barely resists running away while the rest prepare for fighting against her while her meat golem rushes to fight them. Gallus badly misses his laspistol attacks but a lucky fate reroll for +4 degrees of success puts down the bio-mechanical horror and deletes one of the flesh golems. The heretek woman sends her horrific knife-spider surigcal tool to protect her while she rigs the building to blow and prepares to make her way down the elevator shaft. RIGHT into Alicent who is waiting for someone to come down and whack them, initiating a grapple against them and starting to fumble their way down the shaft.Litilus is the first member of the acolytes to be brought below 0 wounds, taking 7 critical damage and losing use of his leg until it can get further medical attention as the scalpel maniliar stabs through his knee. Kestian debates briefly saving the tech-data instead of his life but resigns to save the arbitrator instead, grumbling all the time. Meanwhile Gallus flings himself down the elevator shaft to follow the tech-priestess, crashing into her body and knocking her, Alicent, and himself down to the bottom of the shaft. Treating his impact against the descending people grappling, he knocks them ALL to the bottom of the elevator shaft, breaking his fall on the tech-priestess' body and while he and Alicent take very little damage, the heretek is almost crushed underneath them while continuing to grapple.
>>98530589Prometheus the feral guardsman ends up smashing one of the cogitators in an attempt to recover data, silencing the "shaking, vibrating box" while Hastus tries to help Litilus and instead fails by -7 degrees of success and ends up killing the arbitrator via blood loss. The Emperor receives his faithful as Kestian immediately leaves his side to start trying salvaging any data from the system. Some data gremlins try to fight him off but in the end he manages to secure experimentation logs left behind by the other heretek while the others secure the unconscious logician agent leader and they regroup down on the ground level. Attempting to leverage their authority to whoever is on the other end of the call results in the logician agents bugging out instead and trying to kill them.Evacuating the higher levels of the building and bringing Litilus' body with them, plus an unconscious Moran. Doing their best to sulk through the streets, they make their way out of the almshouse and end up informing the local hive gang about the "enforcers" and help kick off a small gang war while they flee to the escape tunnel, kill two enforcers left to guard the vehicles and steal a set of quad bikes plus a flatbed truck to make their escape into the hive sewers, recovering the body of the fallen Arbitrator and taking Sybas Moran into their custody. Moving through the sewers, they meet up with a contact and get extraction handled. Prisoner is handed off to the agent of the inquisitor and they meet up with who will be their handler overall, congratulated for doing "half-decent" work and told that they will be taken for specialty training and instruction to better suit their new role as pawns on the Inquisition regicide board.
>>98530593Gallus spends his XP on Awareness, Perception and Unshakable Faith, and sold some of his gear.Alicent spent his XP on improving his Dodge skill, Willpower and the Sprint talent.Hastus trained in Literacy and Rapid Reload.Kestian banked his XPPrometheus retires as a character to instead switch to Novus, the officer-guardsman from the one shot he played instead.Litilus' player brings back their backup sister of battle Venris instead. Instead of the full power armour and bolter, I plan on giving her either mesh or carapace, with a mono-sword and bolt pistol instead for at least the first bits.Overall it felt like a very good intro adventure, especially for our group's first time doing the system at all and had some somewhat interesting character development between the various acolyte hopefuls through the adventure. Thanks for the recommendations bros. For a small question, given that the munitorum headquarters are on Scintila, how would you treat someone wanting to buy one of the gear commonly found in war zones before it's shipped out? How would and freeblade knights that have sworn allegiance to a chapter and painted themselves to match their heraldry be counted in the Codex? Are they just considered part of the motor pool and sent out the same way you would a tank?
>>98530607The core rulebook has a whole Inquiry table at the start of weapons, use that. Maybe make it easier depending on contacts or the equipment. Inquisitor's Handbook has a whole segment on war worlds and the stuff they use there.
>>98475633Generally speaking, rolls should max out at +/- 60 for it to not feel too oppressive, if you want something more than that, start giving him unnatural characteristics instead, and then (if you can remember them, keep in mind that you shouldn't have more than you'll actually use) skills and talents. Something like Sure Shot can really change how an NPC plays and what your players have to take into account fighting him, for example.Giving him rare equipment can also help, generally speaking, the higher you are in the Imperium the weirder, more unique kit you have. Could be a nice "Oh Shit" moment when he shows up wearing some ancient suit of Cataphractii his chapter has exactly one of, or a disintegration weapon or similar.
How easy would it be to make a space hulk? I want to make a custom space station/space hulk for my Chaos Warband out of different ships/stuff. How easy is it to control the warp fusion process?
There is now a Psychic Powers page on the wiki!https://shaso-40k-ffg-expansions.fandom.com/wiki/Psychic_Powers#List_of_Psychic_PowersThe details need to be fleshed out, but I believe every power is listed.I have every power of the five main disciplines of Biomancy, Telekinesis, Divination, Telepathy, and Pyromancy, as well as the mechanically-minded Osirae discipline and the rather questionable Sanctic and Malefic discplines. There are also some powers that don't have a discipline, simply being special powers granted by specific talents, unique to specific legions and specialisations.Do let me know if I've missed anything; they are rather spread out across the book.I'll be filling in this page whenever I'm able. It won't be a quick task, but it'll be fun!
>>98518638Baneblades tend to be a little bit holy (or at least are considered relics), and have a mechanicus shrine on the back as well, so you'd probably piss off the regimental enginseer by doing that on a baneblade; you'd want something to honor the tank instead. Guardsmen are known to paint stuff on their vehicles though, and can certainly get away with it on a leman russ, chimera, etc.
>>98534659Take pretty much any dungeon generator and give it a 40k paint job.If you want put some more effort you could map out a ship you stick into it.
>>98529301So your saying the Missionarus is more like the Schola, where from the outside it looks like a grand organization, but it's really small, individual orders organized by Cardinals at the diocese level?
>>98519054This is actually a lot of the premise of my Only War campaign I'm working on. The planet my squad will be fighting on was a mining/hive(ish) world that was raided by orks. Local forces were able to drive off the greenskins but it devastated the world's infrastructure to the point of planetary social collapse. The player squad is to be part of an Imperial task force, sent to the planet to restore the tithe. They are to assist mechanicus elements in assessing the planet and see if it's even worth putting more effort into restoring the planet proper. While I plan on having remnant ork bands appear, I was actually going to have the enemies be more raiders and mutants living in the wastes. Some former mine/refinery workers turned raider, others refuges from the shattered hive cities turned to the deserts for desperate survival. So while action and combat is a need, I wanted what you said, more civilian matters to work on.
>>98537448Yes.It's a good example of the sheer scale of the Imperium preventing the central authority from micro-managing the people actually doing the work out on the frontiers. As with so many things, the final dispositions as to who gets sent where, and with what resources, are made entirely at the local level where the decision makers hopefully have a better grasp of the actual circumstances that the missionaries will be facing.
Any tips for someone who wants to run an anti-grimdark game? I think 40k is at its best when it's about hope and faith and not grim edgyness and nihilism. I want primarchs to return, and I want my players to meet them so they can become central characters in my game's plot. Any tips for this?

Is it possible for a human to use a Tau Battlesuit? Twilight Crusade for Rogue Trader draws attention to the fact that you can find two Crisis suits and a Broadside in an armoury, but there's no specifics as to what requirements there are to pilot one, and the Tau Character Guide doesn't elaborate either, bar the assumption that you need Pilot (Personal) which you only get through the Battlesuit Pilot advance table. As a result, I assume the answer to be 'no', but I'm not certain and looking for confirmation/a second perspective on things.
