>>98471904>>TQ>Succubi have an ability to change into an incubus after a long rest and vice versa. What is your take on this change?Trannies are D&D's main audience so this makes sense.
>>98471934I don't see it. They view themselves as another gender, not someone who can change genders at will. I doubt gender fluid folks are the target audience of WoTC.
I hate the gender-swapping succubi/incubi mythology. It is a relatively late addition that stems from medieval German sources, and is completely nonsensical. Succubi and Incubi originate all the way back to Babylonian myths, with a clear and distinct separation between them. If they were in fact one creature, there would not be a need for two names, just like there would be no reason to call a Selkie anything other than a Selkie regardless of whether it was in its woman or seal form. Having them be separate also makes their antagonism more direct: Succubi are the enemy of men, Incubi are the enemy of women. Their mindset and methodology should be separate and distinct, so dramatically different that if they were switching between the two they would need completely different personalities and might as well be completely different creatures.

How do you deal with nonmagical BPS damage ruining your game once the PCs have magic weapons? I like to give at least half of them magic weapons by level 4. Minor ones, like a +1 with some weird minor power that's a sentence or two to describe. It's part of the fun for me. I'm not a DM who gives out a ton of magic items, except consumable ones. And those are pretty minor. So now monsters don't have nonmagical BPS reisstance or immunity? So that's annoying. Some, like golems, just have BPS resistance straight up, which I think is retarded because why would fire be better against a golem than a hammer?I think of you're gonna do that, it should be resistant to all non adamantine damage. Or double it's hit points and make it reisstssnt to adamantine. The PROBLEM is, that when I've been designing monsters, especially little constructs, nonmagical BPS resistance has been my cheat code to boost their effective hit points, without jacking up their hit dice to ridiculous levels. Maybe I should just do that though. The new oaken bolter has 117 HP now instead of 58 HP. Basically doubled. And now it's not going to be trivialized by magic swords. So I think that's better. Thoughts? Sometimes I think the old damage reduction system was better for this shit.
Someone posted begging for a subclass based on picrel. This is my fetish so I'm throwing a bone. It's an unarmed Barbarian subclass and I'm still unhappy with it, but whatever.>Path of the Pit Engine> When the engine idles, you decide how conspicuous its scars and fittings are. A Pit Monk's idle form may be identical to her previous self at the player's discretion. When you Rage, you also determine the appearance of your active frame: muscle and stature might swell dramatically, heat vents might open along old scars, or infernal spikes might become visible beneath your skin. These choices are cosmetic except where a feature says otherwise.> > Many Pit Monks come to crave ignition: the rush of pressure through the engine, the freedom of suddenly taking up far more space, and the terrible physical certainty of becoming something built to prevail. Some are embarrassed by that hunger, some embrace it, and others regard it as merely one more appetite to discipline. The engine creates the capacity for exhilaration, not a personality its bearer must adopt.> >Level 3: Pit-Forged Frame>Your engine has made your body a weapon. You gain the following benefits. >* Engine-Driven Blows. When you hit with your Unarmed Strike and deal damage, you can deal Bludgeoning damage equal to 1d6 plus your Strength modifier instead of the strike’s normal damage. If you aren’t holding a weapon or a Shield when you make the attack roll, the d6 becomes a d8.>* Ignition: When you activate your Rage, you can become Large if you are smaller than Large. Anything you are wearing or carrying grows to accommodate your new form. If there isn’t enough room for you to become Large, your size doesn’t change. You return to your normal size when your Rage ends.>* Combination Blows: While your Rage is active, immediately after you take the Attack action on your turn, you can make one Unarmed Strike as a Bonus Action if every attack you made as part of that action was an Unarmed Strike.
>>98474513>Level 6: Furnace Feed>At the start of each of your turns while your Rage is active, if you damaged or were damaged by a creature within your reach since the start of your previous turn, you gain Temporary Hit Points equal to your Rage Damage bonus. In addition, the first time you hit with an Unarmed Strike before the start of your next turn, the strike deals an extra 1d8 Fire damage. These benefits vanish when your Rage ends.>>Level 10: Counterpiston>While your Rage is active, when you take damage from a creature within your reach, you can take a Reaction to make one Unarmed Strike against that creature.>>Level 14: Redline Colossus>Your engine can sustain a form built to break armies. Your Pit-Forged Frame and Furnace Feed features improve in the following ways while your Rage is active.>* Colossal Frame: When you activate your Rage, your size can increase to Large or Huge (your choice), and your reach increases by 5 feet. If there isn’t enough room for your size to increase, your size doesn’t change.>* Redline Feed: The Temporary Hit Points granted by Furnace Feed equal twice your Rage Damage bonus, and its extra Fire damage increases to 2d8.
>ANNOYING DESIGNBRAIN FAGGOTRY>There is deliberately no rule that counts adjacent enemies. "Gain a bonus if two or more enemies are within 5 feet" is an encounter design nightmare and then you have to keep track of who's where, and position them, and like MAYBE if we were doing 4e roles there'd be something interesting in that space, but ugh I'm so bad at distance and 5.5 doesn't do much here so fuckit. Furnace Feed creates the intended behavior organically. More enemies in reach means more chances to feed the engine and more possible Counterpiston triggers, but one dangerous opponent can still drive it.>>The two principal benchmarks are the 5.5e Berserker and Path of the Giant. Berserker establishes the offensive ceiling: Frenzy adds a number of d6s equal to Rage Damage, and its level-10 Retaliation grants a reaction attack. Path of the Giant establishes that Large size at level 3 and Huge size at level 14 are acceptable transformation benefits. The Giant also receives increased reach and repeating elemental damage, so size itself doesn't have to carry the whole subclass.>>GUYS WHAT I WANTS WHACKED IN THE PLAYTEST HERE SEE>* Track how often Combination Blows actually competes with other Bonus Actions.>* Track how often Furnace Feed triggers, how much of its Temporary HP is consumed, and whether the 1d8 Fire damage is lost against resistant enemies.>* Track reaction competition between Counterpiston and Opportunity Attacks.>* Test a solo boss, three comparable melee enemies, and a mixed melee/ranged encounter.>* Watch the Grappler feat specifically. If the build is too controlling, adjust the subclass rather than banning the obvious feat.>>The first number to cut, if necessary, is Redline Feed’s doubled Temporary Hit Points. The first number to raise, if the subclass underperforms, is Furnace Feed’s level 6 Temporary Hit Points, not the unarmed damage die or number of attacks.
My Sorcerer has Levitate and Hold Person, which other spells are excellent for taking a single enemy out of combat while combining it with Heightened Spell in the new 2024 rules? Or are those two enough? My Sorcerer is 4th level and already has a shitload of spells.
>>98471975Bad news, a Babylonian would look at any modern conception of succubi or incubi and be like "What the fuck are you talking about?" >>98474368Just increase the number of hit points flat-out without worrying about hit dice.
>>98474719I mean if I'm gonna ignore the rules I might as well just jack up their hit dice anyway.
>>98474648Not on a sorcerer's list, but Tasha's Hideous Laughter. Worse conditions (prone + incapacitated) than Hold Person's paralyzed, but no creature type restriction, and disadvantage on saves mitigates the main issue, that is the target getting a new save with advantage when it takes damage.

>>98479844Players tend to become desperate as they notice their resources getting low, so being open to their wacky suggestions helps. Always gotta improvise tho. At least you get 3 encounters a session, my players diddle their dicks for 3 hours and might not even leave the street in a city.
>>98479844It's good to design an adventuring day in a way that can give the party time to get a short rest or otherwise back off if they're struggling to handle something. That said, I'll also often design dungeons and encounters with reinforcements in mind, where if the party is doing badly I can hold off on reinforcements, or bring them back later on for a bit of extra challenge. The key is to design your dungeons and adventures in such a way that you can easily justify tossing in an extra group of guards as needed. Reinforcements also tend to do a good job of counterbalancing some of the more powerful control spells. Dropping a fireball on a room during round 1 isn't quite as strong when half of the enemies aren't showing up until round 2-3.
>>98479844For fights in particular it's a good idea to always have a vague idea of the types of encounters you think the players might get into and have some enemy groups built out that you can just drop in whenever it makes sense based on what they end up doing. Sure you might have some encounters that you build knowing you will force a way for them to happen because they're important, but generally you shouldn't have the mentality that you're planning out every encounter they will hit for a session.
>>98475189I think the "sexy demon" part comes from the fact that DnD PCs are typically portrayed somewhat appealing. In a Dark Sun campaign, the DM has my Tiefling character referred to as a mutant and treated as such by NPCs. It's been neat.

>>98481265What do you want to fix about them? If you mean making them good they just need a good dicking from a paladin to redeem them.
>>98478807I sometimes use ai generated monster tokens when there isn't a perfect picture of what I want otherwise. I've tried to generate battle maps but I'm very specific about what I need in the maps so out of 50 attemps I've only ever used a single slop map so far. Rarely if there isn't a fitting picture to be found I generate some specific illustrations as an extra detail/visual aid, for example an important monument or how a certain unusual interior of a tomb looks like. I guess I also sometimes ask llm for ideas for names. Rarely I try to get some inspiration for story or text or other ideas out of it but getting something interesting and useful is like pulling teeth. My players love generating character art with AI.
>>98482731I've used chatgpt for the odd battlemap but I much prefer joining patreons for a single month/pay cycle and downloading all of their maps to use. I have a big collection so far. A lot of the time they'll have variants too to find just the right one. It's a bit of work though compared to giving some random prompt. It still kind of looks like slop though so I use it very sparingly.

Putting aside the cases where people just play a Tiefling as a technicolor goat person, and instead actually lean into the demonic angst, the logistics typically just don't work out. It's a bit like making a character who has a twin brother who's an infamous bandit lord. NPCs who see the character are reasonably going to react poorly, so either the character ends up in disguise all the time (rendering his appearance a non-issue), or he has no problem killing any law enforcement or bounty hunters, at which point he's just a typical edgelord murderhobo and it doesn't matter what he looks like. I rarely see people strike a good balance between that sort of character drama and actually having a PC who can travel around and participate in adventuring.
>>98483641Genuinely shocked they haven't made a dragon pact yet, maybe they were explicitly keeping it on the backburner for when they ran out of stuff.

>>98486928I mind it a lot less in D&D because any bad content WotC releases for this game is piss easy to simply ignore. That's a lot more difficult in MTG.

>>98478813i've seen stronger twists irl
>>98486943>Every fucking month is a new crossover set in MtGSome of them were cool, like the Final Fantasy set, but most are just bad.
>>98487002Wasn't Strixhaven an MtG thing too?>>98483641Isekai Goddess.Actually, that would be interesting. If you ignored that WotC can't help but make political shit nowadays, what would you want out of a like, Inserts & Isekais book if that was the next setting?
>>98487139Yeah, I think fantasy crossovers are fiiiiine-ish, if a little inconsistent in design. It's when they have zero standards and just crossover with everything from TMNT to The Walking Dead like a Fortnite card game.
>>98486970i'm genuinely very fucking excited for the oath of the holy paladin subclasse.oath of the holy paladin is going to be fucking sick because it's easily one of the strongest healing subclasses in the game and they did a great job porting it over from world of warcraft from what i've been told from a DM acquaintance of mine that lives in milwaukee that attended GenCon and spoke to james wyatt(paraphrased)level 3>lay on hands receives your charisma modifier to healing up to 1/4th your paladin level times per day (minimum 1) and has an extended range based on your paladin level (lvl x 5 feet)>any time you roll a dice for healing, you can treat any rolls of 1 or 2 as a 3level 7>you can refill either your own or an ally's spell slots using 5 points from your lay on hands pool>if you use lay on hands to grant spell slots or remove a condition, they receive the healing as well (normally lay on hands requires you to sacrifice those points for the condition removal)level 15>a target affected by beacon of light receives any lay on hands healing, condition removal, or spell slot restoration you do to yourself or another nearby creature>lasts 1 minute and uses your channel divinity chargeshe didnt reveal what the capstone is for the class, but my buddy said wyatt hinted at the ability for lay on hands in world of warcraft to generally heal someone to full so it'll probably be something like "if you eat all of your lay on hands pool, you can cast power word heal" or something im not sure.
>>98487002I'm prepared to be dissappointed but I really want to see Edge of Eternity splat book. I'm considering just getting whatever scraps of lore/story I can get and make my own shit
>>98487151Yeah, I was mentioning that we hit 2 mtg books a while ago.
>>98487184In hindsight, I'm suprised and disappointed that they weren't doing mtg books since 3e. We could have have mirrodin, kamigawa and lorwyn adventures from when wotc gave a shit. Both IPs have different planes amd settings already baked into them.
>>98487197That could be said for many settings. Innistrad is very well established and we get nothing for it and it's the perfect setting to introduce horror themed stuff and aberrants considering the eldrazi coming in and mutating shit.Besides, how cool would it be to play as werewolves throwing hands with eldrazi corrupted werewolves?
>>98471904How are succubi formed?
>>98487197They were in talks to do a Dominaria book in the late 90s with TSR. Fort of how there is a Diablo AD&D 2E book.
>>98487217emrakul would absolutely dab on cthulu
>>98487226I want more aberrants in general. I literally just want more of the cool shit we see in Magic ported in system.
>>98487154>It's when they have zero standards and just crossover with everything from TMNT to The Walking Dead like a Fortnite card game. You say that like The Walking Dead wasn't the first one they did.
>>98487154I'll admit I'm not as bothered by stuff like that because, in my mind as a collector, they are there to be another bit of the IP/Francise that you're there for anyways. Granted I say that and immediately dumped TMNT because the art didn't do it for me.
>>98487189We also had amonket and Kaladesh splats.
>>98487296Plane Shift isn't the same thing as a full splat. Lorwyn is closer, but that one was so disappointingly anemic that it still upsets me to think about.
>>98487217Zendikar was the D&D setting, why the fuck didn't they make a 4e book for that? Innistrad I kinda get, it's pretty close to Ravenloft.>>98487224That would have been cool as hell. Why are nerds so lame?
I liked the Planeshifts. They suggested using them with artbooks for lore. I bought the Innistrad artbook, so pretty. Back in the days WoTC weren't insufferable culture warriors.
>>98487197>>98487217The trouble is that a lot of MtG settings are pretty surface-level for what you'd want for a full RPG setting. It's part of why they only managed to have the short Planeshift splats for some of them, and even planes like Ravnica or Theros that have multiple sets to draw from end up pretty barebones in terms of actual content. That, and I'd argue D&D isn't even a particularly good system for the power level of most MtG planes.
>>98487633It's not even a question of power level. Magic just works fundamentally differently in the M:tG multiverse than it does in D&D.
>>98487633Enough depth for book trilogies up until...Alara I think? And even then it would be the setting books that would still do the heavy lifting. Try putting Dark Sun or Dragonlance into the block format of mtg and you wouldn't get the same level as a setting book.>>98487691Eh, for most spells cmc is fairly equivalent to spell level. The fact that they've done 5 or 6 mtg books at this point shows how easy thwy are to work together. Helps that current dnd and mtg are designed by the same company and have shared design philosophies.
>>98487691>Magic just works fundamentally differently in the M:tG multiverse than it does in D&D.To an extent. There is an overlap in that both D&D characters and MtG mages are learning specific spells, which cost a resource to do. Though I'd certainly say that power level is one of the fundamental differences.A wizard in D&D can become an archmage purely through study. A wizard in MtG isn't going to reach that level of magical might and arcane versatility unless they're lucky enough to be a planeswalker.>>98487881I'd argue the depth you need for a book trilogy is still less than what you need for a setting. And yeah, if you turn a D&D setting into an MtG block you lose a lot of detail. That's part of why turning various MtG planes into tabletop settings is more difficult than it seems, because there's a lot of gaps that need to be filled that the card game can get away with glossing over.
I posted a little about this in a bullshit thread, but here's my idea basically.Dark Sun 5e can't work because of modern politics, and I don't just mean woke people. Our asses helped ruin the conditions that made Dark Sun work too.Dark Sun hit because it came after stuff like Dragonlance, where D&D was increasingly about epic heroic protagonists with story arcs and plot armor. Dark Sun's answer was basically "fuck your protagonist." Your guy dies of thirst, roll another one. The world does not care about your story. That kind of hostility toward the player's precious blorbo was part of the appeal! TSR never came out and said those words, but that is what people in the community responded to in 1991. You can see Vampire the Masquerade coming out at the same time, and they tried to solve the problem in the opposite direction, by creating a space for that kind of player in their own game. Problem is that "gatekeeping" and hostile GMing are politically loaded now. Wokies see exclusion everywhere, but our side also spent 15 years loudly making "keep outsiders out" synonymous with "no blacks, no females, no hispanics, no gays, etc" instead of it naturally being true 85% of the time. So now if you say "this setting is cruel, arbitrary, and doesn't care about your character," people immediately ask whose characters you plan to be cruel to like you have a manifesto queued up.That means modern Dark Sun has to sand off exactly the thing that gave it teeth. The cruelty has to be safe, fair, narratively justified, and player-affirming. You have to have an assurance that you can beat the slavers and restore magic and blah blah fucking blah. The setting being hostile to your desire to have a special protagonist was the POINT. That's why modern Dark Sun feels soulless, and the soullessness is partially our fault.
If the caster of a simulacrum gets brainwashed or Dominated, could the simulacrum subvert/ignore subsequent orders, knowing that the caster was not themselves?
>>98488006thanks for the input chatgpt
>>98488133Fuck you, you know I'm right. It's everyone's fault, though the majority of the blame goes to bluehairs. I don't know what kind of shit they can DO in a modern RPG to make it feel like Dark Sun. Like, there's the political thing like I said, but also games just aren't as lethal and don't have the same assumptions. Any game.
>>98488144Just because you're right doesn't mean you don't type like a glorified chatbot.
>>98488158You're absolutely right — thanks for calling that out.
>>98488158Yeah, it's why I don't post much anymore. I was one of those compulsive wikipedia-checking autists in another life, so I always assumed it was trained on people that talk like I do primarily.
>>98486928They're making a fucking Star Wars book nigga
>>98488006They'll just turn Dark Sun into a knockoff Doom 2016 thing where instead of harsh survival it's about your character being an EPIC BADASS COVERED IN BLOOD WHILE SHITTY METAL PLAYSIf we're lucky it might come with dismemberment rules that you can steal for your normal games, but seeing spelljammer i doubt even that
After all the encounter simulations I’ve done, I came to the conclusion that the most important factor in determining whether a fight will be easy or difficult is whether the party’s control caster acts before any of the enemies and casts Web or a similar spell to neutralize them before they can take action.
>>98488210No doubt. Maybe we get lucky with survival rules and a couple Frazetta-looking characters, but I wanted to think about why this is a foregone conclusion. Didn't make a lot of sense to me until I sat down.
>>98487911>A wizard in MtG isn't going to reach that level of magical might and arcane versatilityNiv-Mizzet exists. And various Dominarians.
>>98485368I think they mentioned once that they thought it'd be eating Sorcerer's flavor
>>98477275Kys puckee
>>98487633>That, and I'd argue D&D isn't even a particularly good system for the power level of most MtG planes. That I unfortunately agree with. The typical D&D classes are too milqtoast for what is generally seen in MtG art and lore.
>>98473828This.In the setting I made over the years, tieflings are considered very bad omens and those few who survive infancy are as a general rule treated as outcasts. This of course makese them rather hostile towards society and further reinforces their reputation as "bad apples".
>>98486928>>98486943I think players are also a lot happier to fuck around in familiar worlds in RPGs, where the flavor is whatever your group agrees to, than they are to play card games where everything is a hodgepodge of licensed IPs all smashing together like it's Fortnite.
>>98487224They've never made a proper Dementia wizard for D&D, have they? Might be fun. Although it's easy to build something very similar.
>>98488856It’d basically just be an alienist, unless you really wanted to lean on the “safari” that Skellum takes Chainer on.
Got invited to a game and we're all talking about the characters we want to bring and one of the people planned to bring a 13 year old tabaxi girl to the gameDM described the campaign as on the darker/horror sideThankfully they had enough sense to be like "hey are you guys okay if I'm close to child age" but damn I haven't been a player for like 4 years great to have my first game back be with the biggest red flagoh and also they describe their current status in life as "kind of a wanderer"
>>98488891You're gonna have to man up and talk about it. The fact that he asked if it's cool is a good sign! Just, mention that you got nervous when he asked that and he'll probably listen to you and tone down whatever shit he was planning.
>>98475598That would be an Oni
>>98478807I'm running a campaign at the moment (I don't have time to make my own right now) and I just toss room descriptions into gemini and get an image. I prefaced the campaign by saying I have AI room images based on description and while they might not be perfect they're a pretty close approximation of the room and I'll let them know if there's any major discrepancies. So far everyone's cool with it.
>>98488966I did bring some comments that an NPC I want for my character's motivation was aged up also i'm just complaining dude / am old and don't have the energy to change the perspective of someone who thinks they should bring a 13 year old hobo cat girl to a horror campaign
>>98488547You say that and then post a fairly generic looking D&D party aside from being animal people
>>98488346That's fair, but I'm not sure it holds as much water now when the Vestige warlock has some overlap with clerics.
>>98483641Maybe a subclass that leans into artifice? A construct patron of some sort?

>>98488891that would annoy the shit out of me and I would genuinely not play that table
>>98489497Why not Modron pact?
>>98489686Literally the entire design philosophy behind 5e is "do the absolute bare minimum and tell the retards to just make their own stuff up instead"It's too late to change anything
>>98488244>but I wanted to think about why this is a foregone conclusion. Didn't make a lot of sense to me until I sat down.DnD is bleeding money
>>98488309Niv-Mizzet is the perfect example of what I'm talking about. A 10,000 year old dragon with an autistic focus on learning as many spells as possible and he's just sort of on par with what you'd expect out of a high level wizard. And to clarify, I'm not knocking MtG characters for not matching a D&D archmage. A level 20 wizard can go from a master illusionist to the leader of an undead army with just a night's rest. They can teleport across planes without needing a spark, or just grant themselves wishes. D&D wizards are ridiculously powerful and versatile.
>>98490529He's more of an artificer than a wizard.
dumb question but is a CR3 monster equal to a level 3 player? If I have 4 players at level 3 would a rough equivalent fight be 4 CR3 monsters?
>>98491132Going by the encounter guidelines, a CR 3 monster by itself is meant to be a medium encounter for a party of level 3 characters.Granted, a medium encounter is pretty tame, but that's the rough approximation. If you take your party's level and toss one monster with that CR at the party, that's pretty much the most basic fight you can create.
>>98481265>how do we correct succubi?anal
>>98489475More and more it hurts to realize how immeasurable of a fuck up it was not to recycle the binder. It would have been perfect for the Warlock's flavor and mechanics which the warlock is really just a beam spamming !cleric.Instead of vestiges you could have your patron's influence poke through in a physical way while you bargin for more access to their power and would finally be the witch class some people clamor for.
>>98487226You'd think with having almost sued for copyright infringement by Arkham House they could have made their own mythos adjacent content.
>>98492073I like it when monsters greet me with a big toothy smile. Makes me feel appreciated.
>>98487226I don't know, I think Cthulhu could take on 15 squirrels...

>>98491132I usually just use this.>https://kastark.co.uk/rpgs/encounter-calculator-5th/It also depends on how good your party is and how many magic items you've given them. If they've got some pretty good items Hard can become the default instead of medium. If they're a bunch of retards with basic equipment medium is probably the way to go.

Does anybody know of a way or a website to check balance on a PvP encounter?I I have a party of five level 5 pcs that are investigating a cult. I want the cult leader to be a 14th level barbarian, but im having trouble balancing. On the one hand, the barbarian will be able to tank damage and deal it out like crazy. On the other hand, the party has so many more actions to take. Would this be something that needs minions for the barbarian to command, or a lower level for the barbarian, os should I find another way to balance?
>>98494328Why are you making NPCs as PCs?
>>98494448Its a custom character and a kind of final boss of that particular arc, I wanted to make it difficult. I couldnt find any demons that were exactly what I wanted.
>>98494328This doesn't exactly answer your question, but I would build the leader as a monster, not with class levels. You can get the vibe with a couple of choice features without the comparative bloat of a PC character sheet. Some creatures even have Reckless Attack as a monster feature. To answer your question: compare its average damage and defences to monsters and see what CR it most closely matches.>>98494518If they're supposed to be a demon, I would start with a demon in rough CR range and play with the stats and features, not start with a PC and say it's a monster.
planning a session thats loosely inspired by shakespears julius ceaser>players are invited by a morally ambiguous king who wants their help for something>the quest offered is inconsequential and only exists to get the party to go to the king and hear out his request>once they arrive, the king has already been murdered in broad daylight by several conspirators and now theres a power struggle>the party are now in a unique position>they are confirmed not part of the conspiracy, so all factions know they have no skin in the game and will only consider either the material reward or idealogy>they are all relatively powerful, level 9 each, so they have the power to act as a kingmaker and tip the scales without being so powerful that they could take over the kingdom themselves>players will get to choose whether to back the conspirators or the prince-to-be-kingstill deciding if the players arrival should be a true coincidence or if there is a conspiracy within the conspiracy where the party was deliberately lured there to tip the scales
>>98494518Why not make a custom guy instead of making a DMPC?
>>98494825Make it that the king was secretly clairvoyant and knew he would be killed, so he set it up so the party would come ahead of time after planting lots of evidence of the conspirators various crimes/scandals for them to find just to spite everyone.

I know it doesn’t matter at all, but I realized that if you want to maximize damage, at level 4 Elven Accuracy is slightly better than GWM if you’re using that “backward compatibility for 5e 2024” thing and playing a Rogue with a heavy crossbow.
