Previous Chaos Warriors, Lizardmen and Tomb Kings. Read and re-read those army books probably a few hundred times combined.

Avelorn. Was my first elven army, first time I bothered painting something to the lore, first "real" army.
I love them so much. I painted some for Ghost Archipelago, and they inspired me to paint a whole army of them again
Pic related. Many of these guys will be re-based on squares.
Also I never played undead nor did I play oldhammer when they were out but the middlehammer skelitons feel like.. home. I cant explain it

I have an idea for a narative mission based around the storming of a castle but no clue how to balance it.
The idea would be telling a gallant last stand of a castle outpost to invaders.
>2 players have equal teams but the attacker can replace every unit that is destroyed or fled at the start of their turn.
>Defenders can set up on castle walls with a gate weak point. and may designate any 1 unit to be inside the keep to guard it. they also can place the terrain around the castle for max defense (within reason).
>attackers can give half of its infantry and monstrous infantry ladders and bring 1 siege tower, being able to replace it whenever it is destroyed.
>game ends as soon as the keeps defenders are slain. Attackers will need to get a unit over the walls, or bash through the gate and attack the keep its self.
>Victory is based on how long the attacker take, do it quick and its a crushing storming worthy of legend. Take too long and the defenders get a victory, letting the commander/nobles/non-combantants escape

No idea how I would balance this and honestly like the idea for it for battle march but Idk if its better for full sized games
>>
>>98477269
How would you balance flyers?
put the castle on the far end of the board?
or just ban flyers

I mean its a very common scene in fantasy and history. I am shocked gw only has the rules for this in 6th edition and no dedicated scenerio

Have a Cathay Battalion and building for TOW for the first time, have done 40k and AoS before.

Can I do 3 officers, 3 musicians, 3 flag guys, and do 14 swords and boards and 7 halberds and not be breaking any rules or something? I'm not playing games anytime soon but not sure how serious TOW peeps are about the What-you-see thing I remember from my old LGS.

Newfag and I'm a bit confused. You'd only be able to fight with the 2nd rank only if you had weapons like spears or a whip right? In the game today units that got charged had the 2nd rank fight as well but now that I check I can't find it.

You'll get use to it and based on a bunch of Battle Reports (vids of people playing against each other, some higher quality than others) in the last few weeks, many frequent players are missing shit too but they're much more casual with handling or missing mistakes. Plenty of dudes helping each other with corrections or clarifications.

I...don't think I have one specifically? I like a lot of weird parts of the world, fringe parts that I'm interested in building Battle March forces for.

Like a Nomadic Waagh based on the Hobgoblin Khanate. Or a Border Princes list built around an old Mordheim witch hunter warband of mine I never painted but still have the models for just sitting about. Or Maneaters. I love Maneaters. Ogre mercenaries are incredibly cool. I've got enough Ogres to make one of those hanging around too.

But I do have one of those 'new' Metal Vlad von Carstein models that...was rather savaged in my teen years that I've been fixing up (sword needed to be replaced, same with the horn on the shoulder, and I ended up finishing my half assed job filing off the faces on the cape). I love the model so much but I have no real idea what to do with him since...well Vlads dead.

I was thinking maybe some sort of 'imposter Vlad' situation like MGSV. Some trick cooked up by Mannfred. Punished Vlad sounds pretty cool.
>>
Which ogre list would you rather face in 500pts battle march?

Bruiser
4 Bulls
3 Ironguts
2 Mournfang Cav

or

Bruiser

3 Ironguts
>>
Wow they really just memoryholed the old chaos warriors
>>
>Wow they really just memoryholed mom
>>

I'd rather face the second from a fluff perspective (small patrol, more likely to have basic units) and that's how I build my own battle marches too. I think it's cool to see small bands of infantry going at it.

However the first list feels like it would challenge me more since it has some cav and a greater unit variety for me to learn to deal with, so I'd rather face that from a generalship perspective.
>>
i like the new chaos warriors and was tempted to buy the chaos vs cathay box but then i realised oh yeah i hate cathay
i'm not used to TOW discount boxes yet, is it likely there'll be a box with the chaos contents in it soon that'll be cheaper than paying half the price of the big box?
>>
>>98477928
>is it likely there'll be a box with the chaos contents in it soon that'll be cheaper than paying half the price of the big box?
no
Your choices will be the Battle March box or the Core box.
SDS doesn't do Battleforce boxes like the mainline studio dopes for 40k and AoS outside of the FOMO reinforcement boxes when new models come out
>>
>>98477314
Both 5th&6th (including varations of what you siege besides castles in Generals Handbook) had siege rules. Also, people who need GW to give them rules for everything on a silver platter are retarded. Just play your badly balanced scenario multiple times and fix what didn't work.

>>
>>98477334
Each individual unit is permitted to have only one command squad made up of 1 champion, 1 standard bearer, and 1 musician.
If you are going to use your infantry in one big block, you're only supposed to have 1 of each member of the command squad. If you're going to run 2 smaller units, you can have 2 command squads. You can do whatever you want with the rest of the squad and their weapons. I strongly recommend reading the rules before building your command squad models.
>>
>>98477898
>>98478123
2 units of bulls it is. I've no clue about TOW, I just wanted to know which was the more reasonable list based on the ogre army box. I would've preferred not to have duplicates but if the cav is too strong then I'll pass on them for now.

Bro it drives me wild that they add such game changing and game fixing things to FAQs so if you are just getting into the game you are getting trolled by gw

Like I had no idea they fixed linehammer or added the old parry rule back from the book.
They should just do an online living rulebook

Got a 1500 pt game today, going full terrorist again. Using the new channeling and miscast and specifically trying a cygor to see if i can get someone to blow up. Otherwise my standard ambush gors, ambush centigors with character, ambush primal herd with bray shaman, and a pig. Dropped the preyton for the cygor and trying warped gors with shields for my brick. I probably wont see an explosion cause its a slann list. He might go multi skink Priest tho so it might be good.

Necropolis knights or tomb scorpions? More inclined towards the knights, as spamming single model units doesn't feel very warhammery. This Ral Partha model is also very inspirational, need to order some after I've come back from vacation.

It’s not like any of it is a secret. It’s all available online for free on the TOW downloads section. That’s how GW rolls. They have been doing online updates for over a decade. Get with the times old man.

Press of battle among other FAQ additions were added in the revised rulebook that is being sold now and comes with the starter set. But the FAQ's are available for free and there plenty of sites that has all the rules, the tow rules index for example.

My recommendation: play it a few times into you balance it.
Also check out the Warhammer siege rules to see how it was done back in the day.

The FAQ shit is wild.
For one it's not a FAQ, they aren't just answering questions, but actively changing core rules, adjusting stats and introducing new abilities.
And for two, they can't even answer basic questions without introducing more rules ambiguity. Like they made Regeneration even more confusing trying to clarify it.

I have played a few siege scenarios like you describe. They are A LOT of fun but require lots of preparation and lots of time.

First of all you have to forget balancing around points. You might actually be better off foregoing points altogether and instead have armies built aroind a theme or "subfactions" withing the army.
Having win conditons other than VP is a great idea, so you're already on the same path.

If you're having respawning units, then generally speaking you want the defenders to be stronger than the attacker. Being inside a castle or behind walls, in warhammer games, isn't that big of an advantage.

Someone mentioned flyers, and that's a good point. I've played flyers in 2 different ways.
The first was allowing the defending player an "opportunity shooting attack at -1" whenever a flyer crossed within the castle walls.

The second was not counting flyers towards the game's objective, so if you have to occupy the courtyard to conquer it, flyers wouldn't count.

Similarly, spells and artillery were modified to be slightly less effective against targets inside the castles.

Both attackers and defenders should have access to some artillery, regardless of race (players should take care of modeling army-appropriate artillery and siege engines).

Then to the game itself.
You need space, lots of it. Ideally on a ping pong table or similar. At any rate the castle should have at least 5' of game space in front of its walls.

setting up the table alone will take hours, so i suggest that the defender sets up his miniatures the day before, so that the attacker can start setting up right away. If both sides can deploy the day before the game, even better.

From experience, both players are going to forget what rules an unit has and what special items an hero has taken etc...
I found most useful to create small cards with the unit's/hero's name, stats, upgrades and rules; and then them under the unit.

Continue...
>>
>>98479830
>>98477269
..continued

You also need the right players and the right mindset. You're really not playing to win, you need someone who's ok with making choices that further a story and a narrative, otherwise you risk to have a miserable day.
But if you do find the right person... you'll have some of the best warhammer experience you can have.

>>98479057
Crazy fucking massacre game. Technically a draw since all I had left was my Cygor at 3 wounds, my warhoof at 1 wound, and the banner bearer in the Centigor unit. The other guy had his slann and 3 temple guard. I claimed his banner off his cold ones, he got my general.

I want to do something weird for an 'X on Zombie Dragon' model based off the AoS Dracolith zombie. Instead of someone riding a dragon, I want to be the dragon. Like...they melded or possessed the corpse and now its got the body of a corpse dragon but tbe mind of the necromancer fuelling it. A warhammer dracolich basically.

Something like this (excuse the spastic paint drawing). Like its got a weird fleshy tongue that ends in a gross, half melted corpse that it talks through.

What do you guys think? does something like this need a proper rider, or can a necromancer tongue count?
