very suprisingly its mythic rare that we have a double up of a singular commander unless its new precon night and people bought the same one on the same day. Otherwise we're pretty open about what we're brewing and try not to step on other's toes. As to my experiences for the top25ish ones

About how many extra turn cards do you think a deck based around a time theme would be cool before i start getting the stink eye from a casual b2, b3 table? I'm just getting away from pre con decks and am wanting to build pic related since I pulled her recently and her effect is really unique to me, was gonna try to make a sort of DOT deck with a bunch of enchantments and artifacts that did damage every upkeep but want to lean into her flavor with time abilities too

You will get the stink eye after 1.
And why would you need it?
You swing with her and play hatred or something and then just win with big bomb upkeep triggers. You don't need to take extra turns with her.
>>
>>98486181
I think I will just end up picking it apart and collecting the miku cards in a binder, or sleeve it and keep it on a shelf without playing it beyond the natural "just got this, lets take it for a spin"..
Alas, we shall see. If I end up selling it onwards I won't upcharge.

I still can't believe THIS was deemed too strong for legacy and vintage.
>>
>>98486217
I use Vorrac battlehorns to make her unblockable. Anything that makes her unlockable is honestly a must.
Then you can slap some rings on her like Evos Isle, Thune, and Valkas, and just toss stuff on her to give her double strike.
Personally I love using Jhoira to suspend something like Bahamut or a random eldrazi and then instantly slamming it down instantly if Obeka connects

I wanted to go BG or BR but only opened boros dwarves and all my rares were white or red but none of the dwarf payoffs and only 3 equips. My deck durdled along to a 2-2 record and no prizes. Every round was against Boros dwarves decks with all the big payoffs like Dain and Fili, apart from 1 BG deck that curb stomped my with fatty wolves and spiders. I opened queen of dale but she's good but not amazing. She's Overall a valuetown engine but not particularly fun or exciting. my prerelease experience was mid and I wasn't happy having to build boros dwarf jank. Luckily I just saw the rakdos smaug is selling for $3 so I got the only card I wanted in the set besides smaug the magnificent. If that guy crashes below $15, ill buy him. Booster packs are a trap.

The art director is liberal as fuck. The suits at Hasbro are nonaligned except for what gives them the most quarterly return. They're also retarded though, so they listen to Paul from marketing who says gays and women have tons of discretionary income and they can definitely be tempted by performative actions like black phyrexians and nonbinary angels.
They won't be, but Paul isn't smart and neither is WoTC. Players aren't smart either though, so really it's their fault.

Rule Breaker - This creature deals commander damage in the form of x2 rad counters, where X is the commander damage that would be dealt.
Unblockable

Whenever a player removes one or more rad counters, exile a card from their graveyard. If that player doesn't have a creature deal combat damage to you this turn, you may shuffle their graveyard and library together. If you do, that player gets X rad counters, where X is the mana cost of the card you exiled, then double that players rad counters.

Angels need a lot more than a wurbg commander with an anthem effect stapled on to make them viable. They were never well designed and now the vast majority are horribly out of date as well.

Tribal as a whole is just something that needs to go. Not because it's unfun or anything, but the fags at wotc simply refuse to consistently make good tribal cards for anything that's not a Dragon/Goblin/Zombie/Merfolk.

who the fuck says you can't? commander is not a sanctioned format. there is no judge to say its an illegal card. the store owner will not say "that is not a legal card". it was printed by wizards and has a normal back. people use gold bordered pro tour versions of cards in commander

I have played this in a black green blue deck and someone asked why I would do that to myself instead of playing something else (not: "thats a playlest card, you can't do that!!!!!")

its the same reason why proxies/chinese reprints are fine. because it its not a sanctioned format. and really GōtC has no business regulating it as it is.

they can stick to their other "original" ideas like Vanguard...

>>
>>98487814
Depends on what you want for those three colors. If you add green with a heavy creature focus then Karador would be a good choice for some recursion. Anafenza is also an option as a graveyard hate card in the command zone. With blue Y'shtola and Oloro are obvious choices but you have a lot of other options like the enchantment based ones if you want to go that route. Nothing immediately comes to mind with red except maybe Ghen for some enchantment recursion. Red lets you run stuff like harsh mentor, mana barbs, and Mogis so really your choice depends on what other cards you're interested in.

They did in these instances back in 2021. Why is this format so popular when it's so fucking awful? I regularily play some guy who runs nothing but high-tempo low-curve AI-curated decklists, and since he can just consistently shit out a winning board by turn 3 or 4, the games boil down to "play an even higher tempo deck, play full control or don't bother playing at all", since literally every other deck strategy falls off hard in a 1v1 environment.

One of the worst thing about the Miku secret lair is honestly the flavor text, it's incredibly cringe and reeks of an intern slapping something into an AI and making something as sanitized as possible something that could literally offend nobody. The spells gains flash, split second and it's mana cost is considered paid as long as an opponent has added more than 3 mana to their mana pool in a single turn or searched their library more than once before your second turn.

I can handle them just fine, it's just that I don't want to run the same shit list over and over again, cause it's fucking boring and repetitive to have your commander experience reduced to Voltron or Esper/Grixis Control, just so you can avoid getting oneshot for unblockable/doublestrike commander damage by turn 3.

True, I already played enough of them to get burnt out by the godawful compshittery that always boils down to netdecking one of the 5 winning meta lists and reduce your playing experience to essentially a coin toss of who gets the better mulligan and thereby gets to win by default, which is why I got interested to give Commander a try in the first place. But I guess my expectations were a little too naive, cause now I'm in braindead NPC mode all over again, forced to repeat solving the same problems ad nauseum.
>>
>>98489601
Spoken like someone who has never played 60-card. EDH is a DECKBUILDER'S FORMAT. The second you allow meta shitters in who think they are super-extra-special for "competing" in the solved format (where seat 4's win rate goes down by more than half, lol) the game gets 100x worse.

Bracket 4-5 are containment zones for the mentally ill.

For me, Commander is my social outlet. Mentally, I view playing Commander as a modern version of the Monopoly boardgame: a mediocre game that everyone knows the rules for, that is there is enable awkward people to socialize. I play straight precons and win-con-less group-hug because winning is besides the point for me. I don't like the experience being a spike and being the strongest deck at the table, and I also don't like piloting combo decks that try and win the same way every time. If I want to be a spike, I will play a video game version of a TCG where it is 1v1, cheating isn't possible the same way as in IRL, and I don't have to hear someone moan "c'mon man" when I counter their spell.

Player discussion and consensus is part of defining the meta and people being able to discuss things in a public setting with people across the world in an instant is going to lead to the natural spread and understanding of that information. You are osing because more people have a better baseline understanding of what is good and what is bad and instead of using the same publicly available information and tools to achieve that baseline you cross your arms and go "NO! I want to be the specialest little snowflake and I want my opponents to clap when I play bounce lands and call me a special boy >:(" you faggots are so obnoxious. >>
>>98489902
The assumption that people who don't like sweats lose is a bad faith cope from sweats to deal with being shitters.

The reality is that, before the era of netdecking, EDH players would often also be competitive, or at least competent, 60-card players who wanted to relax with a social format.

The idea of someone treating competitive EDH with legitimacy isn't bad, but acting like every table needs to be as competitive and homogenized as possible is a sign of newfaggotry, of not understanding the point of EDH in relation to sanctioned formats and a lack of familiarity with the greater competitive scene in Magic. It's like when people try to make epic grindark lore cyberpunk fanfic oubof shit like Sonic or Pokemon in that you're treating something in a way it was never meant to be taken, wearing its face because of your familiarity and ignorance of outside entertainment.

What I'm saying is that you're a gay coping autistic newfag.

No, I just picked out whichever Commander looked fun, and built a bunch of decks around these. I rarely showed up with the same Deck twice. I guess I did look up some synergies on EDHrec and stuff, just to make sure my deck was competent, but I also compromised and cut corners and didn't go out of my way to put a bunch of high power staples in any of my lists when I didn't have them on hand.
I did win some games, and also lucked out on some, but I don't think it's my fault that the friends I'm playing conclude that they must run some AI deckbuilding tool and upgrade after only 2 losses in a row, it's just a cycle that keeps repeating since.
They do have very strong decks that push further and further towards high power/cedh, they just don't pilot them very well, and I'm not going to be the one bringing that to their attention as I don't want to come off like a piece of shit.

They should honestly just calm down, Commander is a pretty swingy format in and of itself, you're not going to reach the same level of deck consistency in a singleton format with a 99 card deck as you do in regular formats. Sometimes you lose, and sometimes you can't do shit about it, cause the luck of the draw wasn't in your favor and because that's the nature of the game.
Also, these AI deckbuilding tools usually shit out a list that is very one-dimensional and only works under the assumption that you can play your stuff without any interruption by other players at the table, they also don't seem to factor in responses in the form of niche cards, which can often times be absolutely devastating.

I'm pretty sure the anon you're arguing with is unironically low-functioning autism and nogames given that his argument every time you point out that a play pattern he wants is unhealthy is saying that you got filtered by it, despite the fact he himself never talks about his own gameplay experiences beyond hypotheticals where he keeps getting raped by temur decks while trying to play Tinybones (very weird obsession of his where he imagines himself surrounded by gays).

>The assumption that people who don't like sweats lose is a bad faith cope from sweats to deal with being shitters
If you weren't losing you wouldn't be complaining other players "sweating" you disingenuous fag. If people were trying harder than you and still losing why would you care? You would be bragging that you're better than those dirty "netdeckers" not complaining that they're sullying the sanctity of your table with their horrible meta.
>but acting like every table needs to be as competitive and homogenized as possible is a sign of newfaggotry
I see this retarded take constantly. Who TF is bringing rogsi or tymnathras to your tables exactly? Who is saying that we have to run the ultimate best deck constantly? People going "hmm I want to build that commander I should look up what people are putting in it and compare with my bulk and binders" is normal. People wanting to have consistent decks that are fun to pilot is normal. You can have fun at the retard table with the helmetheads and durdle in your 40 turn game while the rest of play a few games

>>

>If you weren't losing you wouldn't be complaining
Wrong, and proving me right.
I can beat sweats easily by playing a semi-competent control deck. However, I don't want every game to be a reactive mess. The homogenized play of having to deal with sweats makes the game less enjoyable because there's less variance.

I'm not reading past that sentence btw because it's so retarded.

Would you two homos find a Discord room and make out already? Jesus Christ talk about fucking cardboard already. Tell me why I'm retarded for running Worn Powerstone with a 5 CMC commander, tell me why 30 life would be better than 40 even though 50 was the traditional start for 4 player EDH, fucking anything but this outright homo shit.

White should have a Fleshbag maruder in it's color identity.
White is the color about rule setting in a way that is beneficial to it, keeping things "fair" and having dudes.
"Symmetrical" removal like this should be more widespread in it's colors. Something being "Fair" feeling doesn't mean it shouldn't be powerful or abusable.
>>
>>98493845
Agreed.
Also black and white should both get more conditional counterspells.
>>
>>98493903
Black counter spells should be fine if they're creature locked. Functionally just a "faster" Kill spell or a slower thoughtseize that cost your opponent mana. I'm a little apprehensive about it because Black already has everything but you could get away with it if you're careful.
White HAS been getting pretty nice conditional counterspells for a while now, I guess we could see more interesting ones though like "Counter target spell unless they sac a creature/skip their combat step this turn" or shit like that.

Make it tap to activate and remove the green condition. Maybe make it "non-artifact" if you really want to make it thematic.
>>
>>98494044
That's pretty much in line with all my thoughts about it.
The only thing I have to say otherwise is I'd like some black counters that aren't limited to creatures but have a cost. Like needing to sacrifice swamps to cast, or something like dash hopes.
XB
As an additional cost to cast this spell pay X life.
Counter target spell unless its controller pays X life.
>>
>>98494061
Repeatable counters are bad design. The big downside to counter spells and efficient removal is that they're single use so you can run out of interaction if you use it like a moron, and so that from a deck building perspective, you have to play X amount of cards to do it for you, taking up slots that threats would present which slows you down and makes your deck less consistent at producing those threats.

A black counter should probably read something like this, counters a spell with an additional downside like discarding a card, paying life or sacrificing a non-token thing. The draw backs scaling up as the target access gets better. A universal black counter would probably have to be outright discard a card for a hard counter.

>>98494176
I do like the flavor of just "killing" the spell as it's being cast, like shooting a gun barrel as it's being fired. Very flavorful take on countermagic that I want to see. I can definitely see a world where stuff like this get printed in a few years from now. I can also see something like
1BB
As an additional cost to cast [name], discard a card
Exile target spell or creature.

it's super pushed and out there, but in a world where Badgermole cub and the like are printed It's something I'd definitely get excited about.
>>
>>98494208
In my mind black is the tertiary color for counters, so it shouldn't be too pushed.
But I am a big fan of things that most people would think of as color bends or breaks but are flavorful, and think that's a good place for black counterspells.
There are just so many interesting ways you could add a cost, for either player, that the lack of cards in this design space constantly lives rent free in my mind.
