Thoughts on the B&R?
>>
>>98489326
Good for Standard if the format were still like pic related. Those bans lead the format to become the most egregious pile of greedy shit and cheats we have seen. In few months they will have to do a new batch to fix the shit but will be to late because surely new op garbage will be printed soon.
>>
>>98489622
Midge set likely will have 0 (zero) impact on Standard, same with Star Shit
RF is likely the only set that will have actual cards in it that aren't either draft chaff or cummander bait
>>
>>98489326
Pauper no changes is sad.
They should've unbanned...
Actually, no, I dont think k any of the currently banned cards are unbanable.

From what I've seen, for Standard at least, people have been saying Tablet control decks are going to be big because they were least impacted by the bans. Before the bans even happened I was working on a grindy Goblins deck because of all the cool cards were spoiled in The Hobbit. If Tablet-powered Jeskai decks are going to be everywhere then this deck might actually be pretty good. Would appreciate comments/criticism because I haven't played Standard in forever.

Creatures - 27
4 Bile-Vial Boggart
4 Mudbutton Cursetosser
3 Scuzzback Scrounger
4 Searslicer Goblin
4 Boggart Cursecrafter
4 Bolg's Company
4 The Great Goblin

Stuff - 9
3 Burst Lightning
1 Grub's Command
1 Along the Crooked Way
4 Boggart Mischief

Lands - 24
4 Cavern of Souls
2 Eclipsed Realms
4 Blazemire Verge
4 Blood Crypt
5 Mountain
5 Swamp

SB would be stuff like Hexing Squlcher, Duress, Sear, more Grub's Command, etc. Not really sure what to play since the meta is still up in the air with bans + Hobbit. I wonder if I should play more Scuzzback and focus on the synergy between Command + Way. Unbury also looks pretty good too as it Amasses Goblins with Way as well. Not sure with what way to go because there are quite a few good Goblins not even in this list. Maybe even one more way because giving a bunch of dorks menace is quite strong.

the set just came out on arena today and I matched against a dude playing goblins in pioneer
he assembled pic related + some goblin fodder and then he started killing me out of nowhere, he would sac a goblin to make mana, deal 2 and exile the top card of his deck, which more likely than not happened to be another cheap goblin

don't think this is overpowered or anything but I was really surprised by it, I might have misjudged HOB a bit
>>
>>98491796
Rosewater is the head of mtg. He's above the art directors. Everything is downstream form him. And it's more about humiliating rosewater. He needs the paycheck and is a company man so he'll shill anything he's told to. He might be such a cuck he wouldn't even care, and happily reverse direction on anything, not even feeling humiliated. Which would be somehow even more amusing. Just a little goblin.

I have a conspiracy theory that the IP holders pay WOTC to put their stuff on cards. Think about it. Many companies spend tons of money on advertisements. Magic cards are like tiny little billboards advertising Marvel or whatever. Magic is a bigger thing than Marvel now. It doesn’t make sense for WOTC to pay Marvel 10 million dollars to make a set that no one thinks is cool. This explains why they keep making UB despite it being wildly unpopular.
Is there anything financial data or anything that disproves this?

>I have a conspiracy theory that the IP holders pay WOTC to put their stuff on cards.

I was approached by Magic years ago for a Secret Lair collab. It was a shock and surprise because the stuff they wanted to make cards from was a terrible fit for Magic, but I was at least down to have a zoom meeting to discuss it.
The meeting was essentially "We're big fans of your work, do you think your stuff on Magic cards would be cool idk."

Talking with these people, I was hit by the sense that these people had no idea what they were doing and were more interested in their own hobbies and what they liked, without really thinking far beyond that. We continued to exchange emails for a bit, but neither of us were particularly motivated towards any collab so nothing came of it.

Long story short, I don't think there's anything more nefarious going on behind the scenes other than people being in charge of Magic who are much more in their own heads than they should be. I'd call it an abuse of power, but I'm pretty sure most people in their position would not be thinking "What can I do to ensure the longevity of this sacred game and keep its notoriously troglodyte fanboys appeased?" and more "what shit that I like can I get them to make magic cards of before I get fired."

>Magic is a bigger thing than Marvel now.
Marvel Comics? Maybe, but Marvel Studios is a media juggernaut that still can attract A-listers and hundreds of millions of dollars in investors.

>This explains why they keep making UB despite it being wildly unpopular.

Considering how fast AI has leapt in just the last 3 years, something like that is already possible, but you'd need insanely powerful computers to get video generation in anything even close to real-time, and there would be endless hallucinations.

You have 10 decks named gruul control on MTG top 8 and when you look at the lists most they aren't really control decks the more controlish one are ramp decks, then you have a bunch of midrange deck and the block one is a straight up aggro deck.
>>

T2: land + Llanowar elves
T3: land+ play Kona, Rescue Beastie, use it to station the planet and cheat Omniscience into play.
So to do it on turn 3 you already need 4 cards and you lose on any kind of removal. And even with omniscience on the field you don't win on the spot since you need a North Wind Avatar to start the loop that allows you to win the game.

been trying this shit in modern with emmara and intruder alert, infinit tokens turn 3 sound nice but are too slow and not gonna happen
>>
>>98497422
You can already do it on t4 with just Kavaero or whatever the fuck his name is, and it's 2 colours and only needs 2 cards, all the while you're free to pack as much disruption as you want
And it's shit outside of Arena Bo1

What he is actually saying is closer to:
>1) We know that print to demand is untenable (reason not given but presumably has something to do with how far ahead products are printed)
>2) Because we knew that 'print to demand' wasn't tenable, a lot of the time we claimed we were doing 'print to demand' we weren't actually.
>3) This method was also wildly not profitable and we had to destroy lots of product.

Of the three points I believe that only 2 is almost certainly true. The profit margins on Secret Lair are probably high enough (~30 USD for 3-6 cards + packaging at the beginning) that you are making significant profit even when destroying ~75% of what is made.
I also don't believe that P2D is actually untenable but I could definitely believe that it would work like a kickstarter where a product was announced and mockups were given but the actual product wouldn't ship until a year or so later.

MaRo is a lying kike though and everything in that post is trying to save face. He even admits that 'print to demand' was a lie back in the day and wants you to thank him for it because he frames it like an act of generosity "we were actually destroying a bunch of product and losing money goy. All because we wanted to make sure all players definitely got what they ordered in a timely fashion. That makes us lying to your face a good thing actually!"

>magic will get monk class before hearthstone
lmaooooooooooo
>>
>>98498152
Unless the WoW set is the first UB set of 2027, I don't think so, Blizzard has given every indication possible that Monk is coming to Hearthstone next year, it's definitely going to become official at Blizzcon next month.
>>
>>98498195
12 classes seems too much for a card game... And more to come considering WoW rumors
>>
>>98498195
When will they even announce those UB sets?

My research into African mythology for the future Wakanda set.
Belief in reincarnation.
The magic staff is called a Ofo.
Ancestors live in the spirit world where they gain god powers.
Each person has a Chi a guardian spirit.

Key Gods:
Ala: Central Goddess. The earth herself including all life giving elements such as water and punishes lawbreakers. The dead are stored in her womb. Royal pythons are sacred to her.
Amadioha: A lighting and thunder god of justice. Kilsl lawbreakers with lightning strikes. Created humans by striking a cotton tree.
Agwu Nsi: A god of fate and creativity.
Njoku Ji: Yam and fire deity.
Ikenga: Horned god of time and personal achievement. The idol consists of the worshipper's own Chi, ancestors, right hand and power. When a man dies the idol must be broken in two, one half buried with him the other destroyed.
Ekwensu: A war god. Called during wartime to incite anger violence but must be banished during peace times.
Ogbunabali: Death god. Usually kills criminals.
Elements are divided into males(Air and fire) and females (Earth and water).

It'd be less if they divided it by 3 and 4.

I played Magic a lot as a kid and loved it, stopped in like 2002/3/4 after Slivers were reintroduced.

I actually want to get back into it, what packs should I be buying? From what I remember when I played, there were different formats and the most popular one at the local places only allowed the last 2-4 expansions or something like that.
>>
>>98498517
Not only don't. But never buy packs, just single.
>>
>>98498517
>what packs should I be buying
None. You pick a deck you want to play and buy singles.

Okay thanks
If I want to keep playing Slivers (they're so cool) are those new enough that I could walk into most hobby stores and start a game with someone? I just checked and they don't seem like they've been included in new releases in years.
>>
>>98498615
No slivers are gay and you should go to \edh\ and make a sliver commander faggot deck
>>
>>98498615
There a different formats. Standard, which is newer cards and the cards rotate out and only the newest 3 years are legal. Modern, which is all cards from 2003 to today. And legacy, which is all cards from 1993 to today.

Slivers aren't legal in standard and modern and legacy, while slivers are legal, are far too powerful for a sliver deck and you'd get btfo hardcore.

That being said, those are the 1v1 formats. Commander is multiplayer and slivers are viable there, though some people don't like playing against them. A decent manabase isn't cheap. A mid tier manabase alone will be $150 as it's a 5 color deck typically.
>>
>>98498690
Leave Slivers alone :(
>>98498692
Thank you
>Manabase
At the time I also ran mono and rarely duo decks like Elves or Goblins, is it really more common now (I played from like 98-04 or something) to have that many different manas in one deck?
>>
>>98498719
2 and 3 color decks are most common. But commander you play a legendary card as your commander. And all sliver legendaries are 5 color
>>
They forgot about Pioneer Slivers.

Pioneer only exists on MTG arena
>>
>>98499012
Arena doesn't even have all the Slivers, like Galerider.

slivers are based but cummander is for faggots

Something about the hobbit set makes me really fucking hate it
I think it's the cash grab nature of it being a weak ass set with ridiculous prices because of the lotr set's precendent

And idiots opening collector boxes and thinking their "surge foil" version of a $2 card is worth $100

The book cover is lame and retarded
And the cards in the set are 95% garbage. So many horrible rares like wtf is pic related?
>>
>>98499012
its getting support next year, it will be revitalized
hypercopium
>>
>>98499171
also the next standard rotation is removing like 7 sets worth of cards, so in the big picture there's a lot of potential pioneer players who don't want to let go of whatever staples are rotating soon

Obligatory shill mention: Pauper is a format where only cards that have been printed at common rarity are legal. It's much cheaper to get into than other popular formats like commander and modern are, and because of this it's increasingly getting events ran for it at many game stores.
Pauper has a huge variety of decks. For example, slivers are still playable in pauper to this day! An example decklist, from a recent large tournament: https://mtgdecks.net/Pauper/slivers-decklist-by-alisa-farenzena-3017847
