>>98489326Good for Standard if the format were still like pic related. Those bans lead the format to become the most egregious pile of greedy shit and cheats we have seen. In few months they will have to do a new batch to fix the shit but will be to late because surely new op garbage will be printed soon.
>>98489622Midge set likely will have 0 (zero) impact on Standard, same with Star ShitRF is likely the only set that will have actual cards in it that aren't either draft chaff or cummander bait

>TQFrom what I've seen, for Standard at least, people have been saying Tablet control decks are going to be big because they were least impacted by the bans. Before the bans even happened I was working on a grindy Goblins deck because of all the cool cards were spoiled in The Hobbit. If Tablet-powered Jeskai decks are going to be everywhere then this deck might actually be pretty good. Would appreciate comments/criticism because I haven't played Standard in forever.Creatures - 274 Bile-Vial Boggart4 Mudbutton Cursetosser3 Scuzzback Scrounger4 Searslicer Goblin4 Boggart Cursecrafter4 Bolg's Company4 The Great GoblinStuff - 93 Burst Lightning1 Grub's Command1 Along the Crooked Way4 Boggart MischiefLands - 244 Cavern of Souls2 Eclipsed Realms4 Blazemire Verge4 Blood Crypt5 Mountain5 SwampSB would be stuff like Hexing Squlcher, Duress, Sear, more Grub's Command, etc. Not really sure what to play since the meta is still up in the air with bans + Hobbit. I wonder if I should play more Scuzzback and focus on the synergy between Command + Way. Unbury also looks pretty good too as it Amasses Goblins with Way as well. Not sure with what way to go because there are quite a few good Goblins not even in this list. Maybe even one more way because giving a bunch of dorks menace is quite strong.

Wish I was a billionaire so I could buy MTG and, among other things, make the art direction go back to the older style. I wouldn't fire nosewater. I'd just lower his pay and make him my bitch to undo all the homogay shit he's done.
>>98491549He's not an art director. Unless you are talking about companions.
the set just came out on arena today and I matched against a dude playing goblins in pioneerhe assembled pic related + some goblin fodder and then he started killing me out of nowhere, he would sac a goblin to make mana, deal 2 and exile the top card of his deck, which more likely than not happened to be another cheap goblindon't think this is overpowered or anything but I was really surprised by it, I might have misjudged HOB a bit
>>98491796Rosewater is the head of mtg. He's above the art directors. Everything is downstream form him. And it's more about humiliating rosewater. He needs the paycheck and is a company man so he'll shill anything he's told to. He might be such a cuck he wouldn't even care, and happily reverse direction on anything, not even feeling humiliated. Which would be somehow even more amusing. Just a little goblin.
>TQFor Legacy, not good. Getting UB garbage out of the format was the minimum they needed to do but Barrowgoyf and Tamiyo still need to be dealt with. Informer, Candelabra and Entomb need to be unbanned.

>>98492729>I have a conspiracy theory that the IP holders pay WOTC to put their stuff on cards.I was approached by Magic years ago for a Secret Lair collab. It was a shock and surprise because the stuff they wanted to make cards from was a terrible fit for Magic, but I was at least down to have a zoom meeting to discuss it.The meeting was essentially "We're big fans of your work, do you think your stuff on Magic cards would be cool idk."Talking with these people, I was hit by the sense that these people had no idea what they were doing and were more interested in their own hobbies and what they liked, without really thinking far beyond that. We continued to exchange emails for a bit, but neither of us were particularly motivated towards any collab so nothing came of it. Long story short, I don't think there's anything more nefarious going on behind the scenes other than people being in charge of Magic who are much more in their own heads than they should be. I'd call it an abuse of power, but I'm pretty sure most people in their position would not be thinking "What can I do to ensure the longevity of this sacred game and keep its notoriously troglodyte fanboys appeased?" and more "what shit that I like can I get them to make magic cards of before I get fired.">Magic is a bigger thing than Marvel now.Marvel Comics? Maybe, but Marvel Studios is a media juggernaut that still can attract A-listers and hundreds of millions of dollars in investors.>This explains why they keep making UB despite it being wildly unpopular. Some of the sets sold very well. This has probably been asked before, but think we'll ever get a proper MTG vidya where we get to see the creatures from the cards come to life and beat the tar out of each other like in Yugioh instead of just a VTT with a few sparkly effects?
>>98494586Considering how fast AI has leapt in just the last 3 years, something like that is already possible, but you'd need insanely powerful computers to get video generation in anything even close to real-time, and there would be endless hallucinations. In twenty years, it should be much easier and faster and more reliable, but by then we'll all be dead or enslaved so it won't matter.

Speaking of weird shit, has there ever been a viable Gruul control deck? Not combo, pure control
>>98495504You have 10 decks named gruul control on MTG top 8 and when you look at the lists most they aren't really control decks the more controlish one are ramp decks, then you have a bunch of midrange deck and the block one is a straight up aggro deck.
>>98495504When I started playing modern in 2018 there was a RG ponza deck that played Arbor Elf/Utopia sprawl for a T2 stone rain/blood moon.
>>98495691Ponza isnt control its midrange
>>98495817Why not? It played boardwipes
>>98491896Seems cool, a pal in my local pioneer group likes running goblins, might direct his attention towards this
>>98495833Lots of midrange plays boardwipes dingdong. Old gruul was llanowar into stone rain/molten rain and zozu the punisher with burn and beatsticks. Thats not control. And stuff like viridian shaman to take out artifacts and enchantments.
Should I start playing Standard again? I migrated to Competitive Brawl and and feeling pretty comfortable just playing that. I am on the fence about trying Standard again. I want to be certain that Standard is fun again before I commit my wildcards on a new deck.
Standard is garbage.
>>98495635I was talking with a friend and we realized that most colours have been able to do kind of everything, and I could only come up with Gruul control as something that I was pretty sure had never been done beforeSo it feels good to be right

>TQI don't play standard but I hope this helps getting cub banned in pioneer too, it's annoying how it goes into virtually every green deckfantasticar getting the boot in legacy is great, I can now go back to playing storm because there was no way I was going to spend money on a card that's clearly getting banned, it's also a great restriction in vintage but I have a feeling that this won't do enough to stop raker shops from being the deck to beat
>>98496653I don't know i think Pioneer has more answers against Cub and Greasefang barely cares about it, same with Izzet. But I agree with you that is obnoxious as fuck What i really find baffling is considering the degenerate stuff they allow to exist... Why not some unbans? And even with omniscience on the field you don't win on the spot since you need a North Wind Avatar to start the loop that allows you to win the game.
>>98497905>>98497790because you just have to remove the creature and if someone puts down an evendo turn 1 you know whats upbeen trying this shit in modern with emmara and intruder alert, infinit tokens turn 3 sound nice but are too slow and not gonna happen

>>98494802What he is actually saying is closer to:>1) We know that print to demand is untenable (reason not given but presumably has something to do with how far ahead products are printed)>2) Because we knew that 'print to demand' wasn't tenable, a lot of the time we claimed we were doing 'print to demand' we weren't actually.>3) This method was also wildly not profitable and we had to destroy lots of product.Of the three points I believe that only 2 is almost certainly true. The profit margins on Secret Lair are probably high enough (~30 USD for 3-6 cards + packaging at the beginning) that you are making significant profit even when destroying ~75% of what is made.I also don't believe that P2D is actually untenable but I could definitely believe that it would work like a kickstarter where a product was announced and mockups were given but the actual product wouldn't ship until a year or so later.MaRo is a lying kike though and everything in that post is trying to save face. He even admits that 'print to demand' was a lie back in the day and wants you to thank him for it because he frames it like an act of generosity "we were actually destroying a bunch of product and losing money goy. All because we wanted to make sure all players definitely got what they ordered in a timely fashion. That makes us lying to your face a good thing actually!"

I played Magic a lot as a kid and loved it, stopped in like 2002/3/4 after Slivers were reintroduced. I actually want to get back into it, what packs should I be buying? From what I remember when I played, there were different formats and the most popular one at the local places only allowed the last 2-4 expansions or something like that.

>>98498615No slivers are gay and you should go to \edh\ and make a sliver commander faggot deck

Commander is multiplayer and slivers are viable there, though some people don't like playing against them. A decent manabase isn't cheap.
