I am beginning to get into the lore TOW and I'm not able to find stuff on how the average person lived and worked or how specifically the economy functioned. Is it just medieval or is there any fantasy flair to it?

just medieval for the most part

Favourite - Longbeards. Just love these bastards. Absolutely fantastic lore and always liked how solid of a choice they were in game.

Least favourite - miners/hammerers.
the miners are such a cool concept but they never really did anything cool with them in game. In the lore they are meant to be both the most traditional and most technologically peogressive dwarfs. In game they're just ambushing warriors.
Hammerers have always been a really nice choice in terms of list building. But they always felt off compared to their lore, i understand wanting to differentiate them from ironbreakers but they made both units more lackluster than how i would like them to play on the field.
>>
>>98493032
Is this the fabled deep lore of fantasy I was told about?

Seriously though, some of us just really like getting immersed in settings, is that hard to comprehend?

I'll go above and beyond here and say my two least favourite units in the entire game are chaos chariots and forsaken. Specifically this chaos chariot, because it sucks and has failed to do anything in well over a dozen games and forsaken in general because they're complicated to play with, annoying to collect, and generally un-fun. I don't care that they're meta, one mutation sprue is only able to make 5 of them and I can't be fucked to hunt down another to make 5 more.
My favourite unit is the humble chaos warrior, naturally. Simple. Reliable. Trustworthy. A block of chaos warriors will never do you wrong. They won't do you right either, but still.

If you were truly a slave to your desires, you would do anything in your power to satisfy your desire to get models for the legacy army you supposedly love so much.
Don't use psychological terms (from a branch as loathsome and base as the psychology of personality! *ptuh*, I spit on that branch, get interested in a real field of research like perception) as an excuse. Seize your destiny, anon! Break free of the shackles you impose upon yourself! Go collect those God damn models! Learned helplessness is for rats who got shocked one too many times! Are you a rat? Or are you a man? Don't answer that.
Also, which legacy faction are we even talking about here? Chaos dwarfs? You're right fucked if that's the case, either convince someone in your local area to 3d print you some or get ready to sell a kidney (preferably not yours) for the really old ones. VC? Stop being a bitch and go collect 'em from the secondhand market, they're everywhere. You'll have a hard time getting 7th ed skeletons without starting an organ harvesting operation, but if you're OK with using the older ones you can get them directly from GW right now. The tomb kings skeletons are just the old VC skeletons with an upgrade sprue. Ogres? You have no excuse, their entire range was still available until very recently and is being dumped on the second-hand market as we speak. Skaven? Gorrillions of them on the second-hand market. A guy I play WHFB with started collecting them when TOW was announced and he has a gigantic army of ratmen now. No excuse. Dark elves? If you're in Ottawa, Trinity had several boxes of metal dark elves. They're also readily available second-hand and GW still sells most of the range as it was in 8th. Lizardmen? Tons of 'em secondhand.
If you specifically demand new models put out by specifically GW for the specific intent of specifically using them in specifically TOW, then I have nothing more to tell you and you should be ashamed of your own inadequacy.

Miniature wise, the current dwarf miners suffers from belonging to the shittiest generation of GW (plastic) dwarf that replaced some of the best looking metal sculpts in the range with gap filled anonymous looking dwarfs.
Their chainmail wifebeaters make no fucking sense and their faces are sculpted so badly that in all the official pictures GW ever released of them, they never paint the eyes. Like, the heavy metal team couldn't be bothered to do their eyes. Check their journal, the rulebook, WD, these bastards never have eyes painted.

Hell, even when they were released in June 2007, in the very painting guide the released to promote and sell this kit, they just don't do the eyes.

Also tney had an opportunity to do something with them (sappers, heavy machinery, powertools) and they did very very little, even model-wise.

Favorite: Hobgoblin Khan/wolf riders. I always love having units that function contrary to how the bulk of an army does, and it's very fun to have some fast and sneaky cavalry in an army of slow, bulky footsloggers. And that contrast/limit is important; I don't think I would like playing an O&G army with a whole bunch of wolves.
Least: K'daai Fireborn. Ugly models, mind-bogglingly terrible rules (daemon with armor? no daemon save or armor save; makes perfect sense!), can't even breathe fire without spending points on a magic item.

Do you mean TOW as in specifically the wargame taking place during the era of the three emperors (300 prior to WHFB/WFRP) and the new lore they've written for it, or TOW as generally meaning warhammer fantasy? In any case TOW has only had some very general outlines written for it fluffwise, a few narrative campaigns and a very shitty canon-contradicting novel. The newly released TOW RPG might have some pointers, but afaik it's so far all monster-of-the-week style adventures centered around one podunk town in Talabecland.

Overall you're better off looking at WFRP, which has 30 years of published sourcebooks, many of which go into exceeding autism about economics. Generally the Empire is a bit more advanced than you'd think from the aesthetics, I'd say it's roughly comparable to England during the Wars of the Three Kingdoms, except much much more poorer due to every bit of wilderness being infested with evil things that want to kill you. But like you've got widespread printing, a growing mass of urban poor, an up and coming artisan class, and you can almost smell the first enclosures are about to begin. Some places like Nuln are a bit further along, with the first real workshops springing up, while others like Ostermark and Stirland are still deeply feudal and rural places. Then you've also got Marienburg which is just 17th century Amsterdam, with its stock market, futures market, insurance houses and tulip scams.

Some interesting sourcebooks you could check out include Sigmar's Heirs, Marienburg: Sold Down the River, Death on the Reik, Archives of the Empire I-III, Sea of Claws and the 2e WFRP Companion.

The most important thing to remember is that fundamentally the Empire is still a very early modern economy. There's no free trade here, or innocent passage or free movement of goods and people. Everything goes through various guilds and landlords and you better believe everyone is rent seeking like crazy.
>>
>>98493278
Thank you anon, this was exactly the info I was looking for.

And to answer your question, I guess I really mean WHF since that's what my buddy is into. I play TOW only for the rules and new models.
>>
>>98493278
To add another thing, besides the fantasy stuff like dwarf mithril being valuable and priests being able to conjure blessings, I would say one of the big differences between the Empire and the IRL HRE (as well as the 40k Imperium) is that organised labour in a pretty modern sense of the term exists in the setting. While irl, this would've all been handled through strictly hierarchical guilds and clans or corvée labour, in Warhammer Fantasy sectors like river transport and logistics are dominated by 1970s style corrupt unions in bed with the mafia. If you think about it though, teamsters and stevedores running around does make some amount of sense though. The Empire pretty consistently carries a much smaller human population than it otherwise could because everyone is constantly being eaten by goblins/zombies/beastmen/etc. In such a situation of a prolonged labour shortage, it's not that unlikely that day-workers would start flexing their organising muscles way earlier.
>>
>>98493315
Yeah I figured. A lot of people coming here nowadays asking about TOW when they really just mean the classic WHFB/WFRP era. Anywho you won't need it if you're just looking for fluff, but if you ever want to run a trade-focused WFRP campaign, MadAlfred has a website with the complete gazeteers of every single human settled region, so theoretically you can have near endless merchant based adventures.

Kek this like when poor losers hate the rich. Nietzschean was right with the concept of ressentiment, the more loser someone is, the more poor, etc. the more spiteful and bitter their character.
High elves are seen as haughty because they literally are better than you.
The average high elf is superior to the average empire peasant or dwarf manual Laborer, and you know it.

Most favourite: Giants (Orcs and Gobs). Giants are awesome. I know some people think the plastic ones look like retards but its a fantastic kit to work with. And its got a lot of fun abilities too.

Least favourite: Goblin wolf riders. They're obviously made to be tricksy harassers shooting with their shortbows then dancing out of range, but impetuous just ruins the whole tactic. Yeah, its O&G. They're impetuous. Its a thing. But when an army rule/theme cancels out a unit's planned use then whats the use of the unit?

At least you can slap Kiknik in a unit and make a nasty ambusher to run through backlines I suppose.

The old cloak of beards was something that cause Terror in dwarves but also gave them hatred. It also turned offed their gay little runes.

Now it causes terror to everything but you cant use the wearers leadership.

Its overall a good trade but loses its flavor
>>
>>98493963
You're obsessed dude. I'm not even perry. When has perry even defended high elves before? Get a grip.
>>
>>98494031
How is losing flavor streamlined? Just changing something isn't "streamlining" it.
>>
>>98494069
The rules in that example are less specific and more generalized as opposed to the old more lore influenced old ones.
That is reasonably streamlined
>>
>>98494084
That's not streamlined, that's just simplified. Streamlining is taking a janky process and making it read or work smoother whilst keeping it's function and/or flavor the same.
Taking a paragraph written by Rick Priestly and rewriting it by someone who knows how to format a sentence is streamlining.
>>
>>98494084

Streamlining would be something like losing partial hits under templates, only one roll for multiple random attacks in an unit, ensorcelled weapons applying to all weapons available to a unit and so on. A magic item losing its faction-specific rule is not streamlining.

Knowing GW these would be overdesigned into oblivion thus making them still fit into AoS rather than TOW. But being perfectly honest, I think TOW is moving in the direction of "it's AoS with square bases" or more accurately it has been that from the start. Models like pic related are so far away from what I would call WHFB designs and that's not even using the foot knights for Bretonnia which I think are even worse. The game is changing and the aesthetic is changing, the only thing you can do is to collect the models you enjoy while you can and play with likeminded people who want a certain vibe to their games.

Kek. TOW is a core pillar game, according to GW themselves. Not a niche side game like MESBG. They get way way more stock produced, that's self evident just by comparing how many third party stores stock TOW vs MESBG.

I tell a lie, of course, because I already have some buff muscular marauders and they're so bad that I don't even want to play with them. But let it be known I've been hunting down the buffest most muscular of all marauders for many years now! And I found them! But they're too expensive.
Anyway, the new marauders are bad because they're wearing too many clothes. I'm not gay.

Is this like bait or something? You do realise the Empire great cannons look ridiculously out of proportion compared to actual historicals? Despite supposedly being the standard Empire cannon, in a historical wargaming context, they can /only/ work as like the very heaviest cast siege cannons to have existed. See pic related, where the blue chassis is an GC equivalent. Warhammer has always been a cartoonishly exaggerated version of history.

So, question.
What happens if I put this on a unit champion?
>>
>>98495265
Right, I'm not saying TOW is a flop or whatever is making you crying you tourist.
>>
>>98495290
Is the orge and other metal meant to be a unit filler?
>>
>>98495304
Going off Wayland Games stock. It seems that they overproduced the Chaos Dragon while not making enough WoC battle marches (which are sold out temporarily on Wayland).

This I think bodes well for TOW. We have an older playerbase, us going more for value boxes instead of large centerpieces means we signal to GW that we want more value boxes and less centerpieces. Don't get me wrong I think the new Chaos Dragon is sweet but I don't want every army to have something anywhere near that large.
>>
>>98495299
No one is saying Fantasy is a purely historical game, it is exaggerated, but just because something is exaggerated doesn't mean you have to go crazy with things. Older fantasy models are great because they are historical with extra flavour.
>>
>>98495299
Oh no my great cannons is too great, my lobster is too buttery

>>98495311
Yeah using ogre with greatsword + blessing of sigmar I'm going to convert into holding a greatsword with a little altar with candles is going to be a unit filler for my 4e/6e greatswords unit
>>
>>98495303
Well, you can't. Or rather, it won't work the way you think it will. Increasing the champion's movement will do nothing, as units move at the speed of the slowest model in said unit. The loner rule forbids characters from joining units, so your unit champion would be expelled from the unit forthwith. This is, naturally, impossible, so you wouldn't even be able to use the item in the first place.
Also, effects that apply specifically to the wearer don't apply to the unit said wearer is in unless explicitly stated otherwise.
Ergo, nothing happens. None of the effects work.
>>

alright, i think im gonna print.

im about halfway through my dwarfs battalion and these minis just look fucking awful. all the SOVL and old good new bad in the world cant save the sculpts. you've got mushy details and vague areas where hair and capes and chainmail all just sort of mould draft together into a flat blob of nothing. the models fit together like shit leaving massive gaps. there are HUGE mould slips on every single model, the posability is pretty minimal and there are only 4 bodies total with the heads also being part of the torsos so you cant even do headswaps.

so for printing, im thinking about either the highland dwarfs, which are probably the closest to the warhammer aesthetic, but their details are a little soft, or i was also looking at these ones, which have some really good troops, and more of a moria flat edge look to the weapons and armor which is neat.

https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-dwarven-holds-legends-of-old-world-476316

torn between the two. or if anyone knows any other good designers that have done the full range im open to suggestions
>>
>>98495659
I am no expert, and it is finicky, besides all I've done was making small round tubes to wrap around bits of sprue and fill gaps so if anything I am still a novice with greenstuff, but I went ahead with it anyways as it was the only way to really learn.

Game wise, my favorite is Centigors. I love how versatile they are and how much power they bring to an army. The biggest example of glass cannon beastmen have.
My most hated is bestigors. They simply are out performed by every single other unit in the army for their point value and use case.

Lore wise, I love almost the entire army, including bestigors. The only things I dislike are chariots because they dont feel beastmen like. Change them to Tuskgor herd that has all the same stats and point cost. That way you can run razorgors and tuskgors next to each other. If you really feel the need to give characters a mount option just make them razorgor cavalry or make up a new crazy anomaly like a bandersnatch since we already have the jabberwocky (jabberslythe).
>>
>>98495865
I too love Centigors and they do not get nearly the respect they deserve. So fun to use.
>>
Should I buy one of these, strip the Sigmar icongraphy and turn it into a War Altar of Morr?
>>
>>98495915
It could work, but you're going to be spending a lot of time filing down S's, comets, hammers and Gryphons on that model
>>
My autism really is hurting /tg/. Been trying to Mathhammer the best defensive combo for my Orc Warboss but it's killing me.

>Dead 'Ard Armour + Talisman of Protection

+1 Toughness, 4+ armour save and 5+ ward save

>Meteoric Iron and Talisman of Protection

5+ armour save immune to AP and a Ward save.

What, mathematically, is better?
>>
>>98495972
Dead 'ard armor and ironhide talisman. Makes him essentially immune to st4 or lower attacks. Then you can have choppiest choppa with shield for 3+ armor and high offense.
>>
>>98495972
Trollhide trousers + Talisman of Protection + Heavy Armour + Shield
>>
>>98495972
If you're only picking between those two options, it depends what you're fighting. The former is better against high-strength low AP attacks (literally non-existent, a complete non-factor), but it forces you to either be on foot, riding a boar, or riding a chariot, while the latter is good against basically everything while also allowing you to have your warboss ride a wyvern.
Almost everything has AP-1. A lot of stuff has AP-2. This is why the AoMI is so good. However, warbosses already have access to full plate armour for free. I'd say giving them any magical armour besides the trollhide trousers is retarded. Even with a great weapon, a T5 3+/5+/5+++ is extremely powerful.

i also bought a bunch of the avatars of war physical kits, but those were extremely hit or miss. basically the only really good one was the slayers, which was sprue plastic flat joints. the rest of them were resin plastic cast loose parts, and had some pretty bad mould slips and defects and just generally poor quality and part fit

If it's any consolation I paid €44 for that entire bundle as an add-on to his second KS. That KS finished in april, and he's still not sent those files. He's been too busy making and delivering trench crusade STLs for another KS. A month ago he reappeared on our KS and promised he'd send out the files to backers "this weekend", and promptly disappeared again, no files.

Anyway, after a couple months I took it upon myself to procure them via 'other means'. Here is a mockup next to some other well-known sculpts. I've scaled his dwarfs to 2.4x here. The goblin is exactly the size you'd expect, and the human is scaled perfectly to the 6th ed starter set empire spearmen. The bases are 20mm.

>elves
I am sworn to secrecy as to the method, but magic is involved, and the result is so sanitary that one would be forgiven for thinking the elves lack bowels.
>humans
As one might normally expect, ranging in standards from Bretonnian Damsel to Nuln Sewerjack. Wiping materials range from silk or paper to leaves, moss, stones, communal sponges on sticks, et cetera, and washing with water is also employed. Some eccentric wizards use methods similar to the elves, though cruder.
>dorfs
Their scat is not unlike rocks, owing to their diet, so wiping is rather easy. They wipe with rocks or wash with water after, depending on the environment.
>halflings
Similar to humans, only much more frequent, and with similar methods of cleanup. Their diverse diet gives them solid and healthy stools, but I question the efficiency of their digestion, considering how much they eat for their size, as the smell is very unpleasant.
>beastmen
Like animals, no wiping at all. Their scat smells more or less like the leavings of a carnivore, and it can be smelled on their repulsive, matted hides.
>orcs & goblins
Enemy standards, nobles' garments, and beards are kept for this purpose. Not for the sake of cleanliness, but because they seem to find it humorous.
>troll
Due to their thorough digestion and strong stomach acid, one might think a troll might have relatively inoffensive leavings, but in truth, a troll's droppings are vile to witness. Their lack of fastidiousness in consuming their prey leaves traces of half-digested hair, bone, scraps of ruined metal, and worse behind, and their bile is horrific and quite corrosive. Wiping has not been observed, but occasionally, an itch will be scratched with a rock or finger.
>ogre
Like a human's waste, only much, much larger, and thus messier. Diet varies wildly, but the quantity consumed is always immense, and so stools are predictably large in correlate. Wiping similarly varies based on cultural practices.

Since I've only ever bought models to paint(and therefore only gotten ones I would like to look at) not really. I think WHFB models are just pleasant all around though, the only ones I don't like off the top of my head are some of the older Lizardmen models and some of the Bret models since their whole range is(was) so old. I'd still take them over new stuff, though. I'm sure I'm not saying anything new but there's a lot of TOW models that just become so busy and so action move oriented that I feel like they end up looking like shit in an army. I like this Archaon model as a setpiece model example because he stands out but he isn't like overshadowing everyone. Just doing a commander charge pose and not on a 20 foot tall dragon spewing fire

Nah they absorb the blood at 98% efficiency, the 2% waste is expelled through expiration

I think the value is the buttload of bits you get from the kit.

Tips for how to grow my local community? Austin , like most places, is dominated by 40k, which I also play. But I appreciate the depth of TOW. There's almost zero AoS so it's not as simple as "put your existing models on square bases". It doesn't help that GW charges full price for old models.
>>
>>98497738
The plan is bright lava bases with maybe some OSL if I can manage that

This is Kallen Kōzuki from code geass how dangerous would she be in Warhammer fantasy given a proper weapon and probably some armor.

Play the game, I've found at my local club that 40k people started to hover around the table as TOW is being played. People genuinely get interested hearing others having a blast dealing with all the quirky situations that arise from the game. You can then probably entice them with mentioning battle march for a lower barrier to entry, it also helps that GW recently added some more flavour to battle march with the chaos of war(I think it's called that) chart before matches for a little extra spice.

Damn. Unfortunately searching for Varus doesn't turn up anything. Or well, it does, but not the dwarves. Thanks anyway. Give me that acronym if you can.
>>
>>98497794
Battle March in the same way Spearhead AoS did wonders, although Spearhead did zero to get people to play actual AoS games, but Battle March is a good stepping stone. Too bad about those box prices though.

Overall hosting games and letting people borrow armies would be good.

>Lo, that the sky darkens and the Sun hides its face from us, and sorcery and evil magicks are afoot! And with them, men clad in iron and fur descend from the north to bring ruin and damnation in the name of their unholy masters. Four they are, and four they have always been, and though the names may change, their nature does not! You shall soon see their true faces! But, despair not, for the forces of all that is good and right will not falter, and be it the Dragon, the Man or the Bear, will always stand firm against the darkness that threatens to consume us! >>98498646
gw will never do that for TOW, they want khorne/slaanesh, etc... armies to remain an AoS thing

Are the new Warriors of Chaos kit designed to have multiple of the unique bodies (Like musician, Standard bearer, champion) so you can have them be those or just regular models?
>>
do you think that TOW will have vampire counts and if yes, then what do you expect for the new models/kits ?
>>
>>98498861
Calvary sold in groups of 5 called Barrow Knights. Can come built with hand weapons or lance, but have shields either way. Tooter and flag waver available but no champion.
>>
I said i would, so here they are. Get them while they're fresh.

I'm playing my first game of beastmen tomorrow and taking everything I've collected so far, just a question about dogs. If I'm running 20 for screening and flank protection/harass would they be better in 4 groups of 5 or just run them in 10s. I expect them to delay threats and die, or be ignored and run down back line. For 120 points i don't particularly care if they get blended in a turn so long as they give me time to react
>>
>>98499187
10s. 5s can't anchor cause 5 wounds is too easy to lose. If you only want them to chase off fleeing targets 5s would do it, so maybe a 10 and 2 5s. But I've never needed the chase down with beastmen.

Especially cause lots of beastmen units hit frenzy and chase anyway whether you want them too or not.

> Favourite

Bulls, stock standard.Turko-Mongol looking Ogres with giant falchions/scimitars and iron fists. Cheap for Ogres, but when used in adequate numbers and aggression; obviously an oncoming freight train. Not the most resilient or steadfast of troops... But every round they stay in combat, is a brutal, grinding retaliation of attacks and stomp hits.

Fast, hard hitting and they look cool as fuck.

> Least favourite

Though vital for charge redirection, Sabretusks... Big cats, I find them aesthetically boring and their purpose is to be charged and redirect the charging unit.

Gorgers and Yhettis can fuck off too.

Each clan got one, even each family, or individual really. Grudges and settling it is quite a Dwarf thing.
Your Dwarfs lack beards, or at they beardlings with their mom?

The high was waiting for them, not doing the actual work, since you'Ve done a good part of the whole deal (buying the model), let's say a third of it, you've already fallen inot a 'job's a gud'un' mentality that makes you loose drive towards making and painting the models.

A. its cogfop rubbish
B. its something from the distant past, and undermines (pun aside) the established history of the dwarfs as a race longing after past grandeur
>>
>>98499396
1.Don’t care, you have no point.
2. Who gives a shit. Dwarves being a disgraced race has always been a dogshit trope, and Warhammer does it the worst compared to all other media with them in it. Even elder scrolls with them all being scarcely in it are executed in a much more effective manner than warhammer does with their literal cucked dwarves.
