nWoD Mummy runs into a similar problem to Promethean: it lends itself well to being a resource for NPCs, but it's extremely awkward to run as its own game due to their central conceit.

>… could be fun. Gotta ask my ST if we can workshop that together
You can always use the Stone Man as a convenient source for that matter since he's got that move that rips the hearts out of several vamp's chests with a gesture.

And just remember, the more versatile it is the worse it should be at direct damage for balance's sake (or just make a discipline that's a straight upgrade over Potence for fun's sake, no one's stopping you).
>>
Which of these is compelling to you?
>A CTL Changeling who wants to feel wanted/pretty after being a monster in a basement for 20 years
>A DTD Demon who found Christianity and began questioning if his soul is damned

>A Remade who found peace with what he's become, due to find his will to live again after enduring so much

Any Mage STs have experience dealing with recreating Physical/Mental Merits with Spheres? Or heck, just Legendary Attributes? Curious about rulings.

A Mage with Life 3 can bust out superhuman stats easy as shit, but I'm not sure if that means they should get the benefits of Legendary Attributes or purely the dice and the Legendary benefit should just be a separate effects. And then there's the Mummy Attribute Endowments to potentially pull from.
>>

For Seeming, almost anything but a Fairest. It's not like Wizened or even Ogres are forbidden from being pretty.
High Presence, and some sort of job or side gig about seeking attention. Fashion model, performer, aspiring movie star, influencer. Maybe Striking Looks depending on whether the "becoming pretty" part is more important, or the "being wanted" part is. If not Striking Looks, then a makeup specialty for either Crafts or Expression.
Spring Court, and I can't remember the Contracts very well but there have to be some that force you to be the center of attention

I was considering Darkling or Beast.
Like, they were in the basement of their Keeper, and people were thrown down there to be mutilated for disobedience.
>>
>>98494639
I think Darkling could have good irony, but watch out for if she's seeking the spotlight metaphorically versus literally

Talking of Mummy, does anyone have any ideas for Western mummies?
Like, there are HUNDREDS of cairns and graves here in the British Isles, with like...a guy just sleeping inside the mound ready to reawaken for some horrible battle (They won't, they've retired) so I was thinking of using that as a basis. We've got the Ley Lines and a fuck-huge number of churches and whatnot to act as a Web of Faith, but that's where everything falls apart. We don't know much about pre-christian faiths, and importantly, we think they believed heavily in reincarnation. Human sacrifice was common, so there was no concept of an afterlife.

So how do I make these mummies using the pieces that I have? God is dead in WoD and there are only two angels left, so the Christian background for a source of power through the Ley Lines isn't there. I'd have to invent a whole circus of pagan gods based on the Germanic/Nordic pantheon with slightly funnier names.

Again, we're looking at the soul of an ancient druid or warrior of those times merging with a modern corpse. I could lean on the Triat for this and say "you serve Gaia and a Totem now" but that seems a little boring compared with Garou who are already quite prominent in the UK.
>>
>>98494654
She's just looking for someone to say "You're beautiful."
>>
>>98494617
Personally think legendary attribute specialties should not be part of the life sphere boosting the attribute beyond 5. The only case in which it would be acceptable is if the mage buys the 6th dot via making it a permanent part of his pattern (half exp discount) and then also uses a similar spell to give himself the merit at an exp cost.

I don't think endowments should naturally come with higher attributes either, but I would generally allow you to mimic Hekau endowments with life magic, possibly combined with forces, prime etc. Don't do 1 Success = Endowment.

Consider similar effects e.g. extra actions take 2 successes per extra action and a quint per extra action.

A major problem with this shit is the concentration penalty in M20 states effects locked to a pattern or with a duration do not incur it, so theoretically this can be used to cast separate rituals for every buff, resulting in stupid situations. Example: One month long buff for Str, one for Dex, One for Sta.. Doing a ritual that does all three at once is far harder.
>>
>>98494671
>the Garou are prominent in the UK

Some writer must have thought Saulot commanding the Tremere vs Tremere commanding the Salubri was funny. But I guess that explains where the standardised anti-magic training from V20 is coming from.
>so all the tremere did was kill saulot's body and his mind controlled slaves and upload the malcontents into a house that they also secretly control
Fat chance of that, wormlot had to survive to keep control and probably rezzed any of his puppets Vienna killed.

>>
>>98494946
First thing is that your options have been really limited with 5th edition. V5 seems to be tolerable but W5 seems almost punitive, and H5 doesn't even let you join a Conspiracy I think.
V20 has all the broad strokes, like the Tremere own Thaumaturgy, but much broader supplemental materials, including fully fleshed out rules for all the clans, in case you want to throw a Tzimisce foe at your players, or one of them wants to try out being a Tzimisce. The one thing I like from V5, Predator Types, isn't in this, but you can use Backgrounds to represent a reliable way to feed.
Also there are all the other game lines. Like if you're interested in werewolves, W20 has comprehensive rules for custom-building spirits and fomori, talks way more about the Penumbra and other realms (and doesn't force you to take an aggravated damage each scene you're in the Umbra), and even gives you more information about Fera than just, "you may meet a were-crow." That's all in the core book btw.
Major difference is dice. You'll have a pool, probably Attribute + Skill, and difficulty can vary. It's usually difficulty six or higher, but can occasionally be lower. Difficulty determines which dice count as successes. For example, if a roll is difficulty 8, then dice that come up with an eight, nine, or ten are considered successes.
>>

>or one of them wants to try out being a Tzimisce

I'm going to have my HT:V players face some banes and fomori. The main plot is they're trying to figure out who or what killed a city council member (that literally everyone forgot existed but the PCs because they saw the councilor die) and now they've broken into a trash-sorting facility. Could I make a Trashman of some kind to face them as the final boss of the location? Kinda like what a Burgerman is, but made out of trash and working as a trashguy.

What are some low-level banes they could face? The only fomor would be the trashman.

Nah, in practice Red Talons make the better (not good, though) packmate of these 2, even if the alpha is a homid. Once they find out their position in the pack they stick to it and only open hostility or weak/bad leadership make them lash out. The ones who’d never accept a homid or metis leadership simply don’t join. By contrast a black fury can be very passive aggressive if you’re not defending women hard enough and can be very unhelpful if the alpha is a male (remember that these are feminists we are talking about)

>Is there a book or gameline you are interested in but dont have the time or motivation to invest in it?
Since The Followers of Set are my favorite clan, I keep thinking about checking out Mummy. Especially since my roommate keeps giving me shit for killing off Bleu in /shreck/ and telling me I should make a Mummy version of her. I even downloaded a pdf of the book for him to reference for a plotline in a thread, but never got around to reading it myself.

I also had a friend who was really into Wraith and Geist, but he ever ran a single session for each. He was really good at getting people hyped for a game, not so much on turning it into a full chronicle. He did the same thing for Werewolf. So I've owned the core books for pretty much every WoD gameline at some point or another.

Pic is unrelated. Just wanted to do a silly scribble based off Shark's story from a couple threads ago.
>>
>>98495183
One potential advantage you have is that nWoD/CofD changed the things that made apoc entities so busted (easy multi-attack) and mortals comically fragile (make no mistake, Hunters are still fragile, but not to the point of being unwieldy to play as). So you can translate more banes/fomori than you might think over without instantly TPK-ing your Cell.

There's the typical shitter Fomori like Burgermen and Goblins, and a Trash variant of the former works fine. We fought a pair of Hollow Men in my last Hunter chronicle. Freakfeet can also work for lower end Fomori down the road.

As for Banes themselves, besides making some custom ones I'd suggest Anger Swarms (which appear as a swarm of insects that disorient, annoy, and drive people into an angry fury). Could have an interesting encounter with one having driven the otherwise innocent workers of the facility into a rage, giving the PCs the puzzle fight of destroying/dispelling the Bane without killing any of its hostile victims. Furmlings are another basic Bane that could work, they're spirits of Balefire, and could be burning waste and creating a great plume of corrupted smoke to debase the surrounding lands.

What make normal humans tougher in CofD compared to oWoD?
>>
>>98494671
Theres a lot im trying to do in Mummy to expand it outside of Egypt. First mummies im doing are Einherjar, two different "Dynasties" one for Odins half in Valhalla & one for Freyr half in Folkvangr

Ive contemplated "Albians" ala King Arthur's Knights using the Spell of Life (Holy Grail) as well as Lazarus for Christians, but dont want to bite off more than I can chew
>>
>>98496013
Mostly how damage works. In oWoD, how tough you are usually comes down to soak, and humans can only soak bashing damage with their Stamina. Unless they have armor, anything lethal, be it a knife or a gun, is going to do full damage, whatever that rolled damage is. oWoD typically has fixed health dots, only being massive or having some rare powers allows you to get extra ones. Armor can give humans soak, but armor's also kind of bad in oWoD, since all but the lightest stuff penalizes dex, which is key to both your hitting and your evading. So mortals either have to rely on heavy armor which still means they get hit more often anyway, AND penalizes their chances of hitting back, or they have to try and no-hit dodge everything. Which will invariably fail at some point.

CofD was designed around humans as a baseline and it shows. Health dots are flexible, determined by your Stamina. So, while humans still take lethal damage from most things, one can much more easily make themselves capable of taking more punishment. Fixed damage on weapons removed one axis of RNG that could just insta-kill a mortal, which means that a glancing blow from a handgun won't be putting a mortal into dying. But they're still not very tanky. One square (three successes) shot from a hunting rifle puts the average mortal into dying, where they need to be stabilized in a matter of minutes at best before they bleed out. Armor is generally better, since it's flat DR rather than rolled for, and only penalizes defense and speed, not dexterity. IMO I think ballistic armor is a little overtuned honestly, but that's just me being a /k/ fag IRL. I must begrudgingly accept this isn't a tactical game.

Masquerade
Apocalypse
Ascension
Dreaming
Descent
Geist
Returned?
Kindred

Wraith and Geist aren't really the same game, and Kindred and Beast definitely aren't. The last one is super close because they both do different things but Kindred ties into Vampire lore and I think adds something to the setting whereas Beast doesn't expand the setting at all but is super easy to drop in anywhere and has the most flexibility. Mummy is a bit unfortunate because I've never even read Cursed so it lost by default and not by merit. Demon is a massive improvement in Chronicles, and while I don't like Lost very well, I think combining Lost and Dreaming makes Changeling the funniest gameline by far. You also didn't ask about Hunter, but it's Vigil.

Chronicles/nWoD definitely has better bones than oWoD I think. Benefitted from seeing what in oWoD needed a total rework and what didn't. Though I will always caveat my mechanical praise of CofD by saying it's still got its own problems. Worse, while 2e is generally an improvement on 1e, it's a bit of a two steps forward, one step back situation. But those problems are both less significant, and more importantly easier to excise/amend than oWoDs, which were unfortunately baked into the game. Chronicles is serviceable, which is better than oWoD, as it was very much a game most people played in spite of, rather than because of, its mechanics.

I really wish there had been a third legitimate iteration on the core rules of WoD, since I think it was very close to making something genuinely great, rather than just servicable. oWoD, for its many mechanical failings, had a really interesting idea on how to set up an RPG system. I see flashes of greatness in CofD. Unfortunately, V5 moved towards oversimplification in the core rules, and gimmick dice driven RNG in the supernatural department. V6 is somehow even worse, as it's abandoning far more of the core WoD mechanical structure than V5 did.

What are the problems, and when do they come up?
I have both played and run a few of the games in nwod, and haven't had any issues outside having to regulate splatbook access at times.
>>
>>98496633
I never understood people who ask for less power. Power is only potential you can choose not to have it, but to choose the gutter and not have any option to rise above is some kind of mental illness
>>
>>98496763
Not referring to the abilities added insomuch, but the stupid plot and characters, as well as plot nonsense.
>>
>>98496675
It probably boils down to my being a natural nitpicker, and also being someone who's played enough to experience the rare circumstances that highlight the weak points. But for CofD specifically
>Adding Athletics to Defense can very quickly turn melee combat into an unsatisfying whiff fest that demands hyper-optimization in order to match a decently competent shooter in terms of damage.
>Grappling is hilariously unbalanced, since a superior grappler can absolutely shut their opponent out once they establish it.
>Weapons modifying initiative scores sounds like an interesting idea but sucks in play, since if people switch weapons you need to re-order initiative, which always sucks.
>Some merits are insanely over-tuned.
>I don't actually hate conditions at all, but I do hate how they were formatted in the books. If it's tied to a power, the full effect should be in the power.

That's more or less it as far as general system problems go. The rest is more personal taste stuff regarding splats.

>>98496763
Where you set your power floor and power ceiling is important. Since if your floor is too high, you actually can't not choose to not have it, unless you deliberately make your character shit on purpose. Which never feels good, especially since the game itself clearly didn't intend for it. Too much power at the word go actually can be restrictive.

Same thing for if one power is much better than all its peers. Celerity in VtM, for example. It restricts by virtue of being much better than the other physical disciplines in the overwhelming majority of cases. How powerful characters can realistically be also helps the themes of the game. Hunter would be a very different game if you weren't the underdog and could physically bully most monsters out of the gate.

I'm certainly not advocating for V5-esque locking away Elders behind an unplayability barrier, but there are plenty of cases where more power makes for a worse game. It's all about extremes.
>>
>>98496895
I have run in to the first 2 concerns, but it was very situational.
Defense bonus means pcs are not punished so much for using melee as a viable option, and both really come up in 1v1.
I did have a supernatural foe grapple a pc, and the rest of the party just wailed on it, eventually getting past its armor.
As for power scale, I have never seen anyone actually get past the 5 dot mark in any game. It's one of those nice in theory scenarios that most players will never see, like epic levels in D&D.
I personally put a premium on usability by the players, so it is a useless addition for me.
>>
>>98496895
>Celerity in VtM, for example. It restricts by virtue of being much better than the other physical disciplines in the overwhelming majority of cases.
I learned that one the hard way by picking a fight with a Brujah. Fortitude helped keep me in the fight but he just put out more damage.
>>
Did you treat her well, anon? Did you protect that smile?
>>
>>98497024
I certainly tried the first time. Heather as a character does a really good job of conveying the horror of ghouldom, since if you're not paying close enough attention, how much you're fucking her up isn't easy to notice at first. Down to how easy it is for the Sabbat to get her and kill her. It definitely caught me off guard in my first playthrough. In subsequent ones, I tried my best to keep her safe, but ultimately, pushing her away is probably the best thing you can do for her.

Which is a bit annoying since you miss out on some very good dialogue.

As I said, I've played enough that these things do come up and feel like legitimate problems. Athletics to defense particularly annoys me because LeBron might be really good at basketball but I don't think he'd be able to ultra instinct dodge a junkie with a knife. Just an immersion thing. It's also a little weird when you consider what dots are supposed to represent. Strength 3 Weaponry 3 is a man with above average strength and is adept with melee weapons. But that 6 dice base is really easy to reduce to 1-2 dice with athletics to defense. Actual master fencers can rarely go longer than 30 seconds before one scores a square hit, so it again feels immersion breaking for me. I'd even say melee is more viable without it since while the extra defense is nice, it's more satisfying to be able to reliably hit people in melee combat.

Grappling isn't as bad, and the old circle beat the grappler is the counter, but it's a little overtuned I think. A BJJ bro is still going to get cut up trying to grapple a mediocre brawler with a knife.

>>98497179
Professional training is the stand-out for me. It pays for itself with other merits and gives dice bonuses to its skills on par with supernatural powers. I also think it oversteps its bounds a little bit in what merits should cover. The skill dot rating itself already covers proficiency, and I don't like a merit making conventional training a titanic advantage over someone who is self or unconventionally taught. Mystery Cult Initiation is similarly powerful, but at least it comes with the drawback of having to join a cult, with all the weird beliefs and obligations that come with. Rather than... having a career.

Some fighting styles are pretty strong, but they're not the problem children usually. Iron Stamina is a merit I've decided is probably too good, getting to outright ignore wound penalties for less exp than a single dot in an attribute is probably too strong.
>>
>>98497247
>The Flesh

My absolute nigga. Love that book.
>>
>>98497260
I'm of the surprisingly controversial opinion that Professional Training isn't overpowered, it's the other Merits that are underpowered.
>>
>>98497260
I think Professional Training is fine, its just that most powers are kind of stingy in regards to dice tricks.
>>
>>98497260
Oh, and I forgot to mention at the end of this post. While I do find these to be legitimate problems, it highlights the big advantage CofD has. These problems are easy to fix via alteration or outright excision on a table-by-table basis.

Heather is THE BEST depiction of an abusive relationship in like, any video game.
It never, ever acknowledges at any stage that what you're doing is fucked up, several times she'll even push what she does to you, but it's fucked up all the same. You can convince yourself what you're doing is for the best, that you don't want to hurt her... but you're still the one who decides how she dresses, where she stays, take from her what you want, and isolate her from the rest of her life, destroying her dreams of a future forever.

There is no option to treat her nicely. No matter how much an abuser wants to, they can't. They don't know how. And being an abuser is in the fledgelings blood now.

The Eldest was his idea of what was evil within him but Saulot is evil in a "devoid of base desires" kind of way. Saulot created the Salubri & Baali, & he subverted the Tremere to search for an evolution to the kindred condition. One would be martyrs & seek evolution through atonement & kindness, one would be demons & search for change through defilement, & the Tremere to find a more direct magic manipulation such as their creation of gargoyles & the ritual that let's you walk in the sun. Saulot did these things clinically like a schizo scientist. The Eldest on the other hand sought to evolve directly through manipulation of the flesh directly.

Saulot wants to find a solution through through the spirit, Eldest through the body. Two halves of a whole.

I like the idea of a Gargoyle with the extra Clan Weakness of Harbinger of Skulls...

But you can be a Tremere & make some crazy monstrosities with the Garden spells/rituals then stuff your soul into it. Also adding fomori mutations & lupine transformation to the list. You can also get the third eye of Saulot through a flaw or the Discipline

You can also backdoor Demon Lore & get Lore of Flesh to backdoor Vicissitude like sculpting but that might be cheating

As always Tremere do it best

i got the Carapace Cross ending in cultist simulator recently where the player managed to use occultism to transform themselves into a prehistorical mothman who in that setting abbandoned their forms to become human possibly to escape their mad god(s) and it makes me wanna homebrew were-moths for wta

>Moths use incoming light from the moon like a compass so they keep their flight paths angled in the same direction. When a bright light that isn't the moon is visible to them, it overrides their sense of direction, like holding a magnet close to a compass needle -- the needle will point toward the magnet instead of pointing to magnetic north. The bright light does the same thing to a moth.

>You will make Order from Chaos. You will build great structures in MY name, and you will thrive in multitudes.” They all agreed, save for the moths, and Weaver immediately crushed the spirits that were held within the earthly moths, destroying them before they could do anything.
the one would obviously have to be downplayed for them to exist at all of course

so far i have
>weaverish, but on the weaver's shitlist for choosing luna and gaia over her
>can't savely side step unless the brightest light they can see is luna's
>gifts about transformation and rebirth some glass walker and anasi gifts but mostly just those that mess with technology. if i want to take the cultist simulator reference further than also shadow, chaos and confusion gifts as that's the moth's domain in that
>wyrmish were-moths follow the Death's-head hawkmoth as totem and have some necromancy gifts
>similair struggle as the kitsune in that they didn't get assigned a proper job, but in their case it's not their age but that they said no to the weaver before they got a job assigned to them

>i got the Carapace Cross ending in cultist simulator recently where the player managed to use occultism to transform themselves into a prehistorical mothman who in that setting abbandoned their forms to become human possibly to escape their mad god(s)
that's not quite what happened. the book of house gives us far more infos about these guys than cultist simulator: the Carapace Cross included all kind of insect beings with the Moth Carapace Cross being called the Glaeterfleoge-kind and they been tied to the first generation of Gods the so called gods from stone who came to existence presumably with reality or earth itself and those started to be replaced by the Gods from flesh (gods born from ritual and or sacrifice) the Carapace Cross had to turn human (who somehow came to existence with the gods of flesh) or die as reality changed around them and while the Glaeterfleoge-kind had it better than the rest because one of the gods from flesh was "the moth" god of the first hour and like you said chaos, darkness, maddness, confusion and the woods outside of reality. who they had a connection and a small population of them is still around but hidden however most of them still decided to turn human instead of fully binding themselves to a mad god

now however the gods from flesh are being replaced by a third generation of gods. the gods from blood (ascendent mortals) and the rules that made it so hard for the Carapace Cross to exist are becoming weaker (the second game also has the pre-humanity "Scale" aspect return to reality) and people who have ancient ancestors who used to be Carapace Cross can awaken their bloodline and turn into them which is what the cultist in that ending does

i know not really on topic with wta were-moths, but i don't really know much about wta and the secret histories games are something i am way too into

> but how woukd you have some mothmen survive?
i was thinking that for a cosmic entity of order that wants to control the entire cosmos the weaver is actually kinda sloppy and uninterested on checking on her minions. That is the basis for high autonomy drone gameplay and how the anasi managed to pull off the insect wars in the first place

so i would go less with weremoths surrived all of human history hidden from sight but with some moth spirits been hidding in luna's realm (because of the whole moon compass thing) till they got drawn back to gaia by the artifical light of cities which then trapped them there which caused weremoths to become a thing again. very likely due to some help from gaia so that they won't be trapped as pure spirits that close to the weavers web
