I'd prefer not to kill off any of them, but if I have to pick one, it's Raven Guard. They don't really do enough differently from anyone else, or add enough. Being "the stealth guys" is pretty meh when every Chapter is supposed to be able to do stealthy shit with their Scouts. Black armour is done better by Black Templars, plus Iron Hands also kind of do it too although they make it more interesting by adding tons of gunmetal. And unlike many other Chapters that mix multiple themes at a time Raven Guard have nothing else going on. It's just shadow this, shadow that, sneaky sneaky, zero other defining qualities, almost no major historical wars they were relevant in.
>>
>>98499517
Nah, Iron Hands will always stay in James' back pocket when they need to quickly offload models by making a fucked sub-faction rule for them.

The first founding chapter I think matters the least and whose absence would not affect the setting in any notable way - Raven Guard. They don't do anything. No compelling stories featuring them, no standout characters. Even Iron Hands at least have the moirae schism.
The chapter whose destruction would create the most interesting narrative conflict - ultras, with their primarch still surviving of course. Tons of delicious tragedy because of ultramar being gone, heavy blow to the Imperium, billions of "good" people being killed, great stuff.

salamanders would make the most sense given their habit of throwing away their lives to save people. they're the only founding chapter you could write a genuine tragedy for rather than it being a comedic jobber moment. the others are either too numerous to actually remove (wolves, ultras, dangels) or too small to matter (ravens, scars, iron hands). having two green loyalist chapters is also bad design.

Now that I'm 2 (small, 1000pt) games into 11th edition I can gather my thoughts on it a little more concisely.

It's not bad at all honestly, and just from a game feel perspective it's better than 10th so far. Dispositions are a little funky in terms of what they're asking certain armies to do, but the actual missions for them are fun and keep things fresh so far. I dunno how that's gonna feel to me when we're a year+ in and I've played into all of them but for now it's good.
Terrain and cover is definitely the biggest change to the game so far and makes the game both more and less lethal at the same time. I can see for other armies like guard this probably feels fucking terrible but I kinda like the swingy nature of cover giving -1 BS, since it makes stuff like psychic attacks actually have a place in the game and incentivizes getting in close or finding ways around cover. My opponent's GKs got in close with their psi cannons here and just blasted my poor CSM to bits with psychic shots punching straight through my cover. Anyway, the terrain areas do stick out like a sore thumb but they do a good job at stopping the L-shaped hell that was 10th ed tables, so it's not terrible. I'll probably try to find some 3rd party ones that are less intrusive for my home tables.
Objectives being tied to the terrain footprints themselves though is a massive upgrade from 10th. Makes more thematic sense for most armies besides like Nids.
Biggest gripe so far was navigating the dumb little deck for how to set up the table. It feels like a lot of steps that are better suited for a competitive environment; in my own games at home I'll likely just save myself the time and fiddling around with exact measurements on it and just make sure the terrain and objectives are mostly symmetrical.

Blogpost over.

You didn't download the pdf? Some fudging on distances is necessary anyway, as no one really plays on a 60x44 table, do they? 72x48 minimum for 2k games imho.

My LGS unfortunately has a few of the new table sizes and a few of the older, normal ones now. My opponent had already had his stuff up on one of the smaller tables so I just shrugged and went with the flow on it. We were playing a 1k game anyway so it wasn't the end of the world there. My own table at home is the size God intended though, 6'x4'.

The weapons are easy to magnetize. If you want to keep it between a truck and rockgrinder, don't use glue to attach the front part. You can put poster tack in the spot where it attaches to the front of the chassis and switch between. You need a drill and small magnets for it.

It's the thin depth of field probably, I use an actual camera for my games. Not only is the name stupid, they lack both the variety in wargear of 40k tacticals and the mass produced numbers of 30k tacticals. It's especially stupid when they are getting a second kit in the exact same edition where Boyz are getting 3 special guns per 10 models. Would it have killed them to give intercessors 2/3 special guns and rename them to tacticals? Even the space marine 2 class that represents intercessors is called tactical for fucks sake.

>Why yes I would like to make minimum 6 attacks vs. basically every unit I will ever be wanting to hit for the price of one less pip of AP and largely irrelevant strength diff because most vehicles are outside my strength range and the extra attacks outweigh doubling the T of weaker targets while losing at minimum more than half of my attacks

I will say though that all those lethal hits make absolutely no fucking sense. What is that supposed to represent? Shootas are basic as fuck as weapon goes. They don't have special ammo or any characteristic to justify lethal hits. It's just gamey as hell and I hate this type of design philosophy.

"Intercessors" is the best fucking name for a space marine unit there is.
An "intercessor" is someone who prays or intercedes before God on your behalf in christianity. Saints are often invoked as intercessors, for example.
This dovetails perfectly into 40k fluff where marines are seen by imperials as semi-legendary religious figures, literal Angels of the Emperor who save mortals on His behalf. You pray for them to save you and they do.

>>
>>98500333
Bottom-up rules design. It doesn't have lethal hits to represent the actual gun thats being fired (see:necron warriors), it has lethal hits in order to make the unit's shooting against infantry more viable.
You can argue whether this is the correct decision or not, but that's ultimately the reason why.

If GW decided one day they wanted to show that the Tau had finally grown large enough to be taken seriously as a threat to the Imperium, what would be the best way to show that difference in power from before? They can’t just conquer another hive or forge world or destroy another 2nd founding chapter, they’ve already done that before, it would have to be something significant but that wouldn’t feel like an ass pull out of nowhere.

Defeating Ultramar in a war. They don’t have to conquer the whole thing, but there’s 10 Space Marine chapters defending Ultramar, plus god knows however many other successor chapters Guilliman would call upon. It would be tens of thousands of space marines up against the Tau, similar to what we see called upon to defend Cadia and Armageddon. A “partial victory” where a few dozen worlds are shaved away from the 500 worlds but Maccrage is still safe.

It's a matter of making the rate at which they expand clear, and that it happens even when their enemies put as much resources as they can into stopping them

as an example
>the tau presence in the nemyar atoll has a sudden growth and they get to control an area roughly as large as their main empire, with the difference being that this one has way fewer tau and way more auxiliaries, while their main empire mainly has tau
>before the fifth sphere expansion ends, the tau develop a way to ride across the length of the warp rift splitting the galaxy in half, giving them a way to extend their influence further out, establishing 4 new distant beachheads (and giving players a better excuse for distant tau locations)
>the next step is the 6th sphere expansion which is projected to grow those beachheads into, once again, regions as wide as their empire, which would close their influence onto the galaxy, controlling it in its entirety
you don't need to reach the actual end to say that this is a likely incoming scenario
>>
>>98500423
My guess for nobz:
Melee weapons
>Kustom krumpas (all weapons boxed into one profile as mentioned)
Ranged weapons
>Combi rokkit/shoota
>Kustom shoota
>Skorcha
>Slugga

You think they get to keep their bodyguard rules? Or are we gonna see a new ability for em? I kinda like their role as a warboss protector of sorts. Makes me think the boss is keeping his best ladz around him for maximum krumpin
>>
>>98499864
Not hard. The rockgrinder weapon attachments all go in the same arm turret, the only additional piece to complicate things is a fuel canister for the flamer which is also easy to use magnets for setting up. You can magnetize the flatbed cover if you really want to but I didn't bother and I doubt any opponent is going go complain about an uncovered flatbed when you field it as a rockgrinder.

The drill ram is probably the most complicated part. I made the mistake of fully assembling the vehicle hull before figuring out magnet placements - for this one I think the best thing is to get magnets on the inside of the truck hood before you assemble, where the support pistons for the ram sit. The other point of contact is on the bumper and it's not as clean of a surface to try and put magnets on because the ram fits over a couple fixtures on the bumper that are concave. But if you can get the piston contact points magnetized, it should be enough.

>1st sphere expansion brought the Tau to 8 septs
>2nd sphere expansion expanded the Tau to 100 worlds
>3rd sphere expansion was said to have grown the empire by 133% (233 worlds now)
>4th sphere expansion largely failed but established 3 major sept worlds and conquered the Nemyar Atoll which had “several worlds” (at least 236 worlds)
>5th sphere expansion is ongoing, considered a major success, won’t know how many worlds it has taken until it’s over
>6th sphere being planned, going to use a new and improved slipstream drive, will happen concurrently with the 5th sphere
The writers are bad with math but if we assumed every sphere expansion roughly doubles the size of the Tau Empire like the 3rd sphere expansion did, and they don’t give the 6th sphere expansion the same treatment they gave the 4th sphere, the Tau Empire should have roughly 1,000 worlds by the end of the 6th sphere, which would make it a regional threat at least. By the 10th sphere, they would have 15,000 worlds, and that’s when they’d actually be a serious threat.

Yep. Now all you do is take three of the strongest unit in your army. Then you take three of the second strongest unit in your army. Then three of the third strongest unit in your army. Then you take three Battleline units and an HQ and you're set for tournament play. And before you try to argue "but the strongest isn't the most versatile" you're already wrong right off the bat. Versatility is dead in 10th and 11th, all the strongest units can do pretty much everything, kill tanks and infantry just as well.

The argument is that it removes options and the ability to customise a unit on the tabletop to suit for your need and micromanage points (you have 20 points left in your list? Let's give 2 Power Fists to these units).

Personally I don't care much for it on units like Nobs because nobody was equipping them with a mix of weapons anyway (except that period in 5th when they could abuse wound allocation that way) and there was always one option that was so superior to everything else that you were shooting yourself in the foot if you didn't use it.

Let me use another example that happened in 10th. We all know plasma weapons. We know what they are good against amd that they can overheat and explode. We know what melta weapons do, they punch hard but have very close range. Now the game replaces both with "leader rifle" that your sergeant can take. You can use the bit you like in the model, sure but now all the flavour and choice of the weapons are gone, replaced by an abstraction that's disconnected from what the models represent.

A lot of it is a personality thing, in this specific case though I find it particularly annoying because *one* wargear option for melee was brought forward into the new datasheet that previously the entire unit could be equipped with (big choppas) and so now you are forced to either leave a bunch of them on the shelf because you can't bring as many anymore, or play really fucking stupid proxy games where you have to lay out for your opponent every game which big choppa nob is actually carrying a big choppa and which one is a "kustom krumpa".

"You know how those saps just bought all this shit based on the rules we published a bit ago? We need to sell more models, make the next update directly counter the last rules so meta-chasers buy these units to make up for their armies being nerfed (before we then flip the meta back or to a new thing)."
It's back-and-forth design commonly seen in live service video games that do "season" content patches. You sell the product once, then intentionally make it unbalanced in one direction to "encourage" players to invest more time/money to abuse the gimmick, then make a new gimmick a few months later so these same players then invest time and money into that one, constantly chasing the "new meta."
GW doesn't care about the game, they care about money, and making the game unbalanced in this "rotating meta" way generates more money.

No, because there is context that matters. As others have pointed out, his toughness (and wound count) was unusually low for a model his size (ghaz is gigantic) because in 10th GW decided he should be a leader and thus had to fit into much smaller units and have profiles not too far away from theirs. He also had Makari with a 2++ taking A LOT of hits for him, but he's lost that now, as well as the ablative wounds from the unit he used to be leading. This means that, most likely, he's actually easier to kill now than his 10th edition profile.

Yeah it gets real retarded sometimes. Like we know a battlesuit is on average better than a space marine in combat, and about 1 in every 10 Tau is given one, so how the flying fuck is Cato Sicarius and 1,000 Space Marines keeping a 1 million man Tau army busy and not just being mulched into dust? Hell, how are 500 space marines able to be considered a contributing force in any battle when they’re vastly outnumbered by a superior equivalent?

They need to pump up the numbers of space marines drastically in their conflicts, add three zeros. There should be a billion space marines, not a million, they’re not THAT good to justify such a low number.

In fairness Eldar and Dark eldar are already both multiple army themes in a trench coat.
Eldar are also Harlequins and Corsairs and Ynn*ri and might also end up being Exodites too.
Deldar are Kabals, Cults and Covens who all have their own distinct aesthetic.
Whereas Marines with far less visual variety get individual codex releases.

But to make sense, there needs to be way more of them. Each space marine, at minimum, would probably produce 2 space marines later (more if they live long enough for their gene-seed to be passively harvested over time) so how the hell are there only a million of them after 10,000 years?

That's honestly bullcrap. First of all,
>everything else has been cut away from the range
Is just bullshit. Literally every unit that got cut away from the range still is included in the three subfactions + random mercenaries. Second, their "Core units" are kabalites, and the only reason Kabals are treated as one of the tree subfactions is because they added mercenaries to them. One could even argue that their core units are the boats, which are homogeneous across all the subfactions.

And again, they are not that different between each others. A unit of wyches and a unit of Kabalites aren't more separate than a unit of Hormagaunt and a unit of Termagants.

They are very similar situations, votann go in tau because they have a small roster and have an excuse to be allied to the tau at times, and wouldn't go any better anywhere else.
Dark eldar are also a small roster and have an excuse to be allied to the eldar at times, and wouldn't go any better anywhere else.
The admech also have a small roster because fires of cyraxus never ever, and would logically follow the imperial guard the closest due to the sheer numbers of machinery to maintain, and putting them as well in agents feels wrong.
The only other alternative is making one mega-imperial big book instead of 3 imperial books: marines, army, agents
>>
>>98501292
>so how the hell are there only a million of them after 10,000 years?
There's more than that, we don't know exactly how many.

The usual line of "there are a thousand chapters" is a colloquialism. In many places it's actually written "over a thousand chapters". So a thousand is the minimum estimate. It could well be something like 1,200 or 1,400 or even more.

Then there's the old "each Chapter is 1,000 marines" but this is also not strictly literally true. They are organized with 1,000 battle brothers but that doesn't count Command squads, Honour Guard, Champions, Ancients, Apothecaries, Chaplains, Librarians, Techmarines, Dreadnoughts, or literally anything else that isn't Tacticals/Assault/Devastators/Scouts (and Scout squads have extras waiting in the wings to immediately rotate into the Scout company the second there are openings).

On top of that many Chapters just ignore the 1,000 limit anyway, with the most obvious examples being Space Wolves, Salamanders, and Black Templars, but this isn't unique to them. In fact the whole point of the BT fluff was for GW to say "you don't need to be an extra special First Founding chapter to ignore the 1,000 limit, these guys do it and /yourdudes/ can too". Ultramarines have some now old obscure lore but still at one point was canon stating the rules for how to divide and alter their company banners to go up to 50 companies in times of prolonged war, so at some point they were at 5,000 marines (plus all the extras).

Then, the bit most people miss, is that Warp travel = time travel, so some fraction of the marine fleets around the galaxy will go fight somewhere, Warp to the next planet and travel back in time 4 weeks and now end up fighting in two or more places at once.

Taken all together you've got something like 2.5 - 5 million marines at any given time. Lore states there are around 10,000 active warzones in the Imperium, marines fight the 10% hardest, so about 1,000 warzones, each with 2500-5000 marines.

Most units have literally 1 unique special rule. Most of the bloat comes from different weapon options.

My only complaint is the "1 of each" special weapons in each squad instead of having a set number of guys you can upgrade with your own choice of special weapons. Will slow down shooting so much.

You're a weird fucking faggot, but to pretend your question had some kind of merit, it's actually pretty hard to run into yourself due to the Warp travel mechanics, since going back to a place you came from will usually also mean going back along the same stream of Warp energy which will also travel through time in roughly the opposite direction.

So to use my previous example, Marine Fleet travels from Planet A to Planet B, the Warp stream they go through brings them back in time 4 weeks. Then they return from Planet B to Planet A, unless the Warp stream has suddenly drastically changed (which CAN happen but not often unless there's a major Warp storm or something), it will most likely bring them FORWARD in time roughly 4 weeks again.

The new ork tankbusters have 3 unit abilities, 2 firing modes for their guns, and one of the melee weapon options has 2 firing modes as well. It's a lot.

I just don't get it.
>For every 5 models in this unit, 1 Nob model can have their Kustom Shoota and Kustom Krumpa replaced with one of the following:
>1 Big Choppa
>1 Paired Krumpas
>1 Kustom Big Shoota

It's so easy.
>>
>>98501502
My argument is that its fucking schizophrenic to try and have it both ways like this.

I want non-marine subfactions like the DKOK and the Harlequins and the kroot to get supplements OR I want 2 loyalist marine books: codex compliant and codex divergent.

I don't care which ends up happening I just so not think the current status quo should continue.

Not really? It used to be a lot cleaner when they didn't copy AoS warscrolls. This is one of the units with the most shit in the game and 80% of it is just wargear options that you'll only need to read while list building. 5th edition datasheet formatting is still the best one they've ever made.

I actually think the new standard size is better. Whenever I used to play on 72x48 there was always one side of the table that was pretty much dead space. Fuck the terrain layouts though we just set stuff up how we want.

>>
>>98501433
I had this complaint as far back as the basic guard squad suddenly getting free/'free' upgrades that meant you either now had to fully kit out every infantry squad so they would be spitting out five different batches of attacks or else be handicapping yourself by turning down all that extra firepower for no gain or savings

Even before that I had issue with no longer being able to give my sergeants lasguns so I could just have every guard squad firing with exactly one weapon for dead simplicity

>>
>>98501558
NTA but I think with the sheer amount of special units the divergent chapters have reducing them to one or two exclusive detachments just won't work. As much as it is giving marines even more attention I think they need to be handled just like the chaos legions with their own completely separate roster.

Divergent chapters shared a book back in 2nd edition when Dark Angels and Blood Angels shared a book amd even then Space Wolves and Ultramarines still had their own codexes.

Non Marines having supplements happened for stuff like Eldar or CSM, and even then they didn't get a supplement for each Subfaction, they had like one for a single Subfaction or one that covered everything.

GW's goal with these types of wargear rules is to prevent badfeels from less informed customers buying their product, building them in a way that feels cool, then finding out the unit they made is illegal. The new nob box can clearly build all 5 of the specialists in one box, so they would never restrict you to one specialist per 5.

it's actually really funny because the Juggerlord kit comes with an extra body that can easily just be posed on foot, would only take a rules change.

Thousand sons have a similar 'problem' where no model for terminator exalted sorceror exists, technically you can just use one of the terminator sorcerers, but they don't have special rules or anything.

Yes, three editions later for a completely different codex.
I am not saying that factions only ever got a single supplement in the history of the game. I am saying that for not Marine codex the rule was that you very rarely got a single supplement for a single part of your army, while the rule for marines has always been that they get multiple codexes/supplements for their subfactions, which depending on the moment it can range from just the big four or every single first founding chapter.

Of course this depends a lot on how you define supplements, for example Tyranids in 7th got like 3-4 web only documents with some extra detachment which I struggle to call supplement, but if you do I can't really say you are wrong.

Anyway, the point is

Expecting Marines to only get a single "divergent chapters" supplement or a minor Xeno army to get one supplement for each subfaction it has it's completely unrealistic.

Doesn't the "1CP per turn" make all other units that can generate CP redundant? Unless you're a doofus who let your Warlord die, all other CP generators are useless since you can only get +1 per turn max.

His Menace cinematic was two relatively equal sides murdering the shit out of each other so he's plenty capable of doing non one-sided Space Marine stuff. Astartes 1 was just a great depiction of it, so it's only natural that people want more and I think his approach of freakishly fast and efficient Space Marines hits better than the "human but bigger" approach that a lot of GWs other animations use.

I'll say that the new warp spiders were not a perfect upgrade, as they're missing some of the flair of their previous version, namely the plume/mop thingies and the web stuff on the exarch.
They are a 7/10. Good, but not great.

>>98502082
Necrons are also a good update, and I will salute GW for bringing back the old wraith in the form of the ophidian destroyers. That's a good move on them. If you're gonna reboot/reinvent something, "duplicate" it, rather than replace the other.

So Nids & Eldars, good update, new good (mostly).

The new model was made to have Ghaz as a huge monster like centerpiece that went around alone but buffed units around him. The 9th edition profile respected that. 10th edition decided that rulewise he should have been instead a unit leader like the old model was and gave him a profile appropriate for a guy that went around with Boyz. Now they went back to treat him like he was treated in 9th, in a way appropriate to his new model.

>>
>>98502268
Multimelta have 2 shots, so even if they wound on a 5+ you have twice the shots of a Lascannon. Melta has also difficulties to wound but it's extremely damaging once it does, so Sisters can use a miracle dice to wound when needed. Or once they wound the can use a 6 for damage to instagibs something. Their suits also have +1 to hit/+1 to wound against vehicles and can reroll to hit and to wound.

But other than that yeah, it's not fantastic.

>>98502298
Craftworld Eldar get one lascannon per 10 guardians and its mounted on a gunrig they bring with them. That doesn't count. I meant like a whole infantry unit who just carry lascannons. I've already mentioned DE and Tyranids really stretch what it means to be infantry so they don't count either.

The Castigator Battle Cannon is s10ap-1 with blast and d6+3 attacks. That is the best anti-vehicle weapon in the current Sisters roster.
The Castigator Autocannon is s9ap-1 with rapid fire 4 and 4 attacks. This is the "anti infantry" gun on the Castigator.

If you think the battle cannon isn't as good of an anti-tank weapon as it should (or needs to) be, I agree, but it is also the best of what's currently available. Sisters have a severe lack of anti-vehicle weapons.

You're retarded, that wasn't the overall opinion of the thread at all, if anything that release has been a gold standard for faithful updates to old models that marineletfags have envied since, to the point of one admitting he tried to force the meme that the avatar of khaine was a bad model but that noone picked the meme.

Tournament attendance =/= playerbase. Those grow while LGS groups shrink. The game brought in a ton of newfags who have no idea how bad the game is now because they never even played an edition before 10th, partly because of the glut of new video games that came out at the same time like Space Marine 2, but they also rotate out extremely quickly and a lot of old players fucked off too. >Do you think we've had enough time to properly assess the situation?
Yes. GW design trends are generally pretty straightforward.

If you remember when they started putting out rules reveals for 10th and they talked about stat decompression and showed units with very high toughness values smart people immediately concluded that they'd just crank up the strength stat of guns because obviously that's what they'd do, naysayers to that went "nuh uh, they'll keep strength characteristics reasonable and just give anti-tank weapons anti-vehicle", then they promptly rolled out S12 lascannons when lascannons had been S9 for the entire history of the game. Or what about 9th when codexes started dropping with rules that ignore the other players rules, people called that out as an emerging trend immediately. Same for basic infantry weapons getting AP-1 in 8th, people called that out the second they saw the bolt rifle profile. GW are not subtle or restrained, what it looks like they are doing at a glance is almost certainly exactly what they are doing. If it looks like numbers are going to go crazy and every unit is going to have a billion rules on it that's what's going to happen.

I wish this wasn't the case, but it is, and in fact the early calls are typically conservative and GW design trends tend to accelerate in the direction they started over the course of an edition as well.
>>
>>98502557

> Look on their catalog again, everything used is now pretty much 5-10% off full price despite missing bits and most needing to be stripped

Fuck and they have a HUGE amount of used stuff too. I don't know how they came up with that pricing.
>>
>>98502571
Alright you can talk shit about oldhead uncs with bad opinions but leave the fiber out of this
>>
>>98502574
>Have you seen GW 40k sales?
No one said the company isn't making money. But the game is not retaining players because the gameplay is dogshit. Everyone here even agreed 10th is dogshit and that 11th is an improvement right up until you newfags got people bringing up old editions that for some reason always drags out the tourneyfag boot camp selling shill IDF.
>Have you seen tournament attendance?
Tournament players are a tiny, infinitesimal fraction of the actual playerbase and there's no proof at all that general LGS attendance and tournament attendance scale together in any way. The more tournament catered the game gets, the more it drives off narrative players.
>>
>>98502521
And the fact that you have stopped playing 40k instead of going back to a previous edition doesn't tell you that maybe the problem is not the edition?
>>
>>98502605
>No one said the company isn't making money.
nta but you kind of are actually since playerbase size and spending volume is directly linked for obvious reasons.
>>

How do you counter this? >>98502565

Again, do you have literally any data that support your opinion? Like, anything at all?

AoK is possibly the best model in 40k despite his jobbing
>>
>>98502605
>All this shit without any proof

The game has ten times the player retention of older editions. Prove me wrong.
>>
>>98502605
nta but I am just curious what armies you rep and when you last game was.
>>
>>98502654

Nobody "reps" armies.
>>
>>98502578

Shit they have a rare(r) version of the metal farseer but because it's somewhat decently painted they have it listed for $80can
>>
>>98502639
Then where are all the old players from 7th, 8th, 9th, etc? 90% of you in these threads started with 10th. Same story when you go to the LGS.
>>
>>98502675

Are you even serious right now?
>>
>>98502671
Sorry I meant play
>>
>>98502654
>what armies
Thirteen or so depending how you count them, but primarily AdMech, Nids, GSC, and Imperial Guard, the rest are mostly under 2000 points.

>and when you last game was
Not counting the 4th edition stuff we play occasionally? Around the release of the 10th edition Tyranids codex. Only played about three games of 10th, vs Marines, vs Crons and vs Orks. None of us were fans. The game is just too simplified. As I said, most of the group is currently doing Necromunda, some Kill Team, some Trench Crusade, or occasionally an older edition of 40k (either 4th or 2nd).
>>
>>98502675
>Same story when you go to the LGS.
I personally know every single LGS on Earth and 90% of them think you are a faggot and that you are wrong.
>>
>>98502679
>proof
It's meaningless without old data to compare it to, and says absolutely nothing about player retention from previous editions. You aren't even following the argument.

Optimist
>>
>>98502702
I am not even the one who bitched the most lmfao. These friends of mine are people who go way back, I was best man at one of their weddings, they aren't random guys I only see to play 40k.
>>
i got into 40k via video games

DOS Space Hulk
not kidding i didnt even know there were normals Space Marines in power armor
>>
>>98502707
Yes actually I am being generous with with saying 100 since the poster count back when we had poster counts typically was 78-84 on the high end
>>
>>98502700
Relax, I meant old compared to 10th. I started in 2nd, anon. I don't expect most grogs like me to have stuck around this long. But if 10th was so good it should AT LEAST be keeping around the people who started in say 8th which was the biggest reinfusion the game ever got, and yet, you see very few of them.
>>
>>98502702
this might be true actually
It happened during 9th edition
I would come into the LGS after they already cancelled on me and see them playing in our usual corner and just leave without saying anything
>>
>>98502716
>and yet, you see very few of them
You see very few of them

>(it's the one that takes off his helmet, speaks more, and is capable of turning back into the young king "form")

Addressed here >>98502695

The point isn't "the game is dying the sky is falling" obviously I don't believe that. But it's doing poorly at keeping old players around in my personal experience, is all I've been arguing. People are going full reddit fedora demanding some kind of proof they know doesn't exist, when they don't have any proof behind their counterarguments either.
>>
>TQ: James Workshop says you have to kill off a founding space marine chapter permanently in the next edition, who are you decimating?
Loyalist: Iron Hands they are the most boring. Traitor: Night Lord's they are too edgy.
>>
>>98502716
I would say you're unlikely to see many people who started in 7th in any following edition because any poor bastard who started in the worst edition ever probably quit.

It does because it forces GW to make those things consistent and thus easier to remember.
>>
>>98502377
Well sure, Ideally I'd just keep the 10th edition loadouts since combis are now actually good, making every loadout viable. But no, they had to fuck up the kit and force a schizo loadout.

You can roll 6 dice 100 times each to get the same result as rolling 600 dice with this wonderful thing called "write down the result of the 6 you rolled each time on a piece of paper."
Scale actual values dependent on what you specifically need, but you don't need this absurd amount of d6 to start. You'll get more later, they aren't expensive, but to start you can write stuff down as long as both parties aren't being scummy/cheating with it.
>>
>>98502879
>You can roll 6 dice 100 times each to get the same result as rolling 600 dice with this wonderful thing called "write down the result of the 6 you rolled each time on a piece of paper."
At what point in that process do you need to watch out for your opponent trying to kill you for making them sit through 100 dice rolls?
>>
What version of the game should I look into for Necron lore? I need some details on Crypteks and what they can do.
>>
>>98502901
The point was to say that you don't need as many dice as your maximum amount possible. Get a few sets (where I am they're sold in packs of 12 for like $3 at nearby lgs), you'll be fine with 2-3 sets for nearly everything.
Fwiw, I'm also not aware of a single attack roll on a unit that can go beyond 63 dice at once, but I could just be unaware of it so take that number with a grain of salt.
>>
>>98499497
I'll ask again, since the Primaris scale bolt weapons are called rifles and carbines, does that mean firstborn Marines have been using bolt SMGs this whole time?
>>
>>98502435
This is retarded.
Look at their financials. Which is broken out by not just top level revenue but unit sales and other things. As to be healthy for investors the company has to prove it has growth and retention. 40k is more popular on the tabletop than ever.
>>
>>98502557
played 4th-6th started backup in tenth was a ton of fun and got a friend who started in 3rd back as well and he is having loads of fun too. We are both already building out our second armies and its only been 8 months.
>>
>>98503290
it just means GW is retarded and the English don't understand firearms
>>
>>98503504
>the English don't understand firearms
...fuck, that's a good point.
>>
>>98502925
5th ed codex is a good place to look for lore on crypteks.
