Shouldn’t there be child soldiers in the Mortal realms considering how fucked they all are?
>>
>>98500256
AoS is colonial - they expand from stable Cities. Did the British Empire use child soldiers when things were bad in India?
At it's worse, Azyr exists as a safe haven free from all hostility.
Chaos tribes seem sanitised now but originally it would still have been no, because they'd just eat the children.

Only on the side of Chaos and even then i assume they mostly work in mines rather than getting bullied on the frontlines

child soldiers only make sense when you've got mass produced firearms, so no, aos has firearms, but they aren't mass produced, so throwing kids at the enemy is not going to do anything

/mydudes/ are led by giant fat chud troggoth so technically I think it's possible for it to just live that long through "normal" means. I'm probably going to just rewrite things for them to rise to power in whatever the "current day" will be though. I do not necessarily want /myguys/ to be led by a millennia old troggoth, just a particularly big one.

Helsmiths of Hashut truly need a second large wave of models. Right now, their range size is among the smallest.

I am hoping they add more daemon engines and daemon fuelled golems/automata/clockwork to represent daemonsmith craft of Helsmiths.

Hashut and Vashtorr are BOTH competing for technology/artifice aspect of Chaos per offical lore in White Dwarf but Helsmiths lack minis to represent that.

Also, whole Hashutite religion feels very fascinating to explore. The aestethics of Ashen Elder, Anointed Sentinels, Hashutaar helmts, Ur-Zorn, Bull Centaurs. They need to explore this both in lore and minis. Bring back Horns of Hashut warband to represent human worshippers of Hashut.
>>
>>98500610
It's very small of course but it's got a good amount of dual build kits so bigger than you'd think
>>
>>98500610
>Hashut and Vashtorr are BOTH competing for technology/artifice aspect of Chaos per offical lore in White Dwarf
I'm not sure they are, hashut raided the forge of souls to get the know-how on demonstuff, and they seem to have a similar enough affinity for technological stuff, but vashtorr embodies that domain completely down to his mentality, while hashut is a racial god with relatively earthly concerns of revenge towards his brothers and "simpler" dominance over a mortal empire, he's more about the tyranny and greed and his place in dwarf hierarchy than technology and getting a place amongst the chaos gods. as far as I'm seeing him written since the battletome.
>>
>>98500409
I wish I had the drive to write /dudes/ again but I like making mine believable within the setting by using canon as a general guideline and then I don’t know the how drastic the scope of the narrative move forward will be and I don’t want to write my dudes into a corner where I have to scrap everything and adapt to the new changes if they’re substantial enough. Another thing holding me back is that GW doesn’t like expanding on what societies do besides fight or prepare to fight too often. So it’s uncommon to see descriptions of the inner workings of a faction, their cultures and traditions, and what they are fighting for besides survival or conquest. I get that GW leaves a lot open ended to give players freedom to write their own stuff, but there’s way too much left up to interpretation or handwaved away to get the idea of a believable society. To me, AoS’s vagueness is one of its greatest narrative weaknesses and I wish it were a little more specific in things. I’m not asking for Morathi’s tax policy or a Kharadon stock ticker tracker, but give me something that isn’t entirely about war.
>>
>>98500610
>>98500658
I'd say that the Helsmiths and Hashut himself are most similar to the Haemonculi of 40k. They're not strictly "Chaos" but are so fucked up they pretty much fall into the same domain by default.
>>
>>98500749
helsmiths are definitely chaos, its just what happens when a magic/warp resistant race interacts with chaos and magic. its less pronounced and corrupting, but still shows some effects.

I see your point but here is offical lore.

Hashut and Vashtorr are competing for same portfolio.
>>
>>98500737
I agree on the vagueness of everything being a hindrance. Like yeah sure, it’s neat people can make their own cultures and kingdoms in a way they couldn’t in FB, but the problem lies in that civs and cultures exist and form based on the hard limits of what they can do. And there are not many hard limits in AoS
>>
I believe in Khorne Mortal superiority.

>>
>>98501070
I’m pretty sure it’s a thing where chaos gods can steal champions from other gods. It’s why Khorne hates slaanesh so much.

You *can* have more than one mark of chaos (Clearly, as we can see from Archaon/Belakor/Varanguard) but it's a one way trip to Spawndom 99% of the time

Much more commonly you'll have a *warband* that is a mix of differently aligned warriors, but each warrior/unit has just one mark

Khorne and Nurgle warriors could fight together, but Khorne and Slaanesh marked warriors fighting side by side would be extremely rare
>>
>>98502233
I could see vyrkos getting their own range. They'd be obligated to take the deathrattle with them, given the shared design cues. Probably for the best as they are also sharing space with deadwalkers currently.

Lycans also seem to be completely gone from the Chaos range other than the khorne warcry band.
>>
>>98502448
>You *can* have more than one mark of chaos
you get a mark when you sell your soul to one of the gods, once one god owns your soul you're not going to be available for another god to put its tramp stamp on you.
belakor and archaon are special because they got their backing from all 4 gods together all in one go, which is largely now impossible or forbidden for them to do so again, and the varanguards don't have multiple marks, fluffwise
>>
>>98501070
If you reverse search the image you find the artist saying this
>This poor fellow, initially corrupted by the powers of Chaos Gods, stated life as a warrior of Khorne, however due to the artists initial use of the color pallet saw it only proper to turn him into a Nurgle Warrior
so it's just a joke
>>
>>98502467
I think the idea is dead due to shitshow that was Cursed City release, whatever happen behind the scenes insured that.
>>
>>98502467
>I could see vyrkos getting their own range.
I can't, the entire sbgl aesthetic was reworked around them, not just skeletons and zombies, separating them creates way too many issues
>>
>>98502497
Wasn’t around for it, what was the issue with Cursed City? I figured it was like Darkwater, being a pre-cursor to a range update and all.
>>
>>98502474
>you get a mark when you sell your soul to one of the gods, once one god owns your soul you're not going to be available for another god to put its tramp stamp on you.
Getting a mark isn't usually something you choose, you *get* chosen
There are cases where someone has gotten a second mark, and it usually replaces the first one but there are a few characters that had the favor of two gods at the same time

However, having one mark is already bad enough for one's well being. Having two makes becoming a chaos spawn all but guaranteed unless you're insanely powerful like an Everchosen
>>
>>98502524
It instantly sold out, and gw couldn’t restock it until like a year later. So scalpers went crazy with it until then.
>>
>>98502545
>Getting a mark isn't usually something you choose, you *get* chosen
in the same way someone can get bought against their will as well as getting bought with the consent of the slave, in any case there's a transaction going on with their your conscious self or your subconscious self

I'll need all the details before I can really say, especially since, as far as I can tell, there's no information whatsoever on Sylvaneth for 5th edition. I assume they're largely unchanged, though, since they're one of the more popular armies and don't have the stigma attached to them like Stormcast.

My clan is autumn-themed, and with that they have a greater emphasis on preservation and remembrance. So, I think there's some good ground for them to work with in that regard if the Mortal Realms really are transitioning to a single sphere; and everything in-between.

>>
>>98502448

I wouldn't call Varans marked, they're not loyal to any of the gods (neither is Bel and Archin, but you know)

>vashtorr 'exists' in sigmar

>>
>>98502474
>>98502545
>>98502564
a few years ago you could find on some websites a text written by Rick Priestley I believe back in the 80s when warhammer and all its settings were new; in that text he explained the actual metaphysical workings of the universe, the warp and also the soul which according to him had several constituent parts
he also explained what exactly happened when someone swore fealty to a chaos god, in essence that person had a part of his soul replaced by piece of the essence of his chaos god which kept growing until he became compeltely subsumed in the god's will and being, thus why all servants of chaos are ultimately damned no matter how much they believe they're actually the ones using chaos for their benefit and not the other way around
>>
I hope nagash gets a new model where he’s just a regular flesh and blood guy.
>>
>>98502819
the text I'm talking about once existed on that page of that website
https://awesomeliesblog.wordpress.com/2022/02/20/the-nature-of-chaos/
>>
>>98502867
why?
>>
>>98502898
because funne. but you could set up a plot line where Nagash tries to regain his full power again later on, and where hes particularly more vulnerable. You wouldnt even need to remove his old model, you could have him try and usurp his own leftover avatars.
>>
>>98502943
that's something for a plot hook at the side of a page more than the whole new direction for nagash as a character, 10 years after he's become the undisputable god of death, in an over the top setting like aos
>>
I wish the deadwalker zombies didn’t carry weapons. I think the horror and appeal of zombies is that they very specifically teat you apart with their hands.
>>
>>98503010
I think zombies are usually more mouth focused
>>
>>98502960
>the undisputable god of death
>failed to eat Morrda
>failed to eat the ever encroaching Gazul
>slaanesh is happening soon*
even ignoring all that, if you wanted to keep Nagah's status quo as THE death god you could just copy what they did in 40k, where magnus is looking for shards of his personality or whatever but this time for Nagash. Where Nagash tries to beat Nagash.
>>
>>98503022

I got Darkwater recently, mostly for the nurgle models. I have mixed feelings on the heroes. I think they're absolutely mogged by the heroes from Cursed City, but I kinda have come around on how the heroes look like a very classic sword and sorcery cast of weirdos (down to them all being white kekaroo), even the dumb beast guy I kinda like because he reminds me of He-Man. >>
>>98504737
Morga is the one I feel is kind of a misstep. It's her weapon, mostly. A club that feels like it couldn't reach the ground is weird. I'd have given her a giant spear with meat (people) impaled on it, she stabs into crowds then eats
>>
>>98504748
NTA.
Yeah, her weapon is a colossal misstep. It looks like any of the other clubs the Gluttons have. I'm sure a spear or a longer hammer could be converted onto her in no time at all, though
>>
>>98504798
Yeah, the club being completely generic is such a bizarre choice. I'd love to see the justification for that
>>
>>98504748
The named characters are the weakest part of the refresh, and I don't think they're bad on their own.

And it seems Morga is built like the Maulbeast - so you can magnetize the body from the waist up for both variants of her. I hope that actually is the case, because both her and the Tyrant seem great.

And yes, her weapon is kind of cringe. The Maulbeast have those big ass glaives, so you could steal one if you built the Raiders.

Death magic is about making things dead. Necromancy is about making things undead

death magic uses shyish, the purple wind of death, it's a natural form of magic, one that's not necessarily evil, death magic is a part of the natural processes of the world. death magicians use it to consult the dead spirits, at times ask them to make lesser actions for them, but mainly to make things wither and perish prematurely, it is a destructive wind, so much so that its often incarnated in the form of a dragon.

necromancy is a form of dark magic, dark magic works by combining multiple winds together (in this case with predominant shyish) into a muddy and fundamentally evil black chaotic energy, dark magic corrupts the user, the ones it's used on, and everything around. necromancers use it to break the natural order of things and impose their will on the dead, raising them as undead.

it is a relatively easy step to go from a death magician to a necromancer, as it's relatively easy for shyish to become dhar (dark magic), for example the magic of shyish naturally flocks and pools around dead bodies, and when magic is left to stagnate for long, such as in improper burials, it's likely to mix with other magics and go dark. and because of how close they are death magicians are often prejudiced against, but it also means that normal, formally trained, death magicians consider necromancy extremely taboo and draw a hard line between their use of magic and a necromancer's.

there have been times, both in the old world, and in the mortal realms, when 'moderate' necromancers, ones that only dabbled in superficial and moral uses of it, were accepted, or at least barely tolerated, but when the empire got its colleges formalized, and when the mortal realms saw the necroquake, it got completely outlawed.

>>98505593
you'll see that the cities of sigmar have some other seemingly necromantic cues: their priest has a little skeletal familiar playing the flute, while the serf of the marshall has a (talking) head on a pole, in the first case that's not actually an undead, it's closer to a tiny non-chaos demon (as are other little weird things scampering about on cos bases) that just looks like an undead in that case; while for the second example it is an actual dead head, and it's talking thanks to magic, so you could consider it akin to an undead, but there's no imposition of will from the magic user onto the corpse, instead the dead is merely giving advice and consul of his own volition, so it technically isn't true undeath.

Oh boy:
>I saw some End Times rumors floating around on Discord about AoS.
>The fifth and the final book opens with the Everchosen smashing his way into Azyr. It's a bloodbath. Sigmar is dead. Every named SCE and CoS hero? Wiped out.
>Tahlia Vedra, the Lioness of the Parch, led a CoS army as a diversion defending Hammerhal. Betrayal doomed her. She took a Skaven poison blade and fell, but Grell Firefist dragged her body into a time-locked dungeon beneath Hammerhal Aqsha.
>Chaos gets a new Chaos mega-gargant kit.
>Bastian Carthalos assaulted the Varanspire, aided by Seraphon.
>Bastian blew up the Varanspire at the cost of his own life.
>Before the battle, the Everchosen ranted about how Sigmar was a false god who failed the Old World and had the audacity to build another empire. He called the Mortal Realms worthless—just a dream compared to the world that was. He claimed the Chaos Gods begged him to return, and he only agreed when they mentioned Sigmar.
>In Azyr, the Celestant-Prime didn't even get a real fight. His identity was never revealed, though the Everchosen seemed to recognize him.
>Sigmar pulled every SCE back to Azyr, feeding entire stomrhosts into the meat grinder every few minutes.
>Yndrasta, fresh from fighting Gorkamorka's avatar, held the line. She was smashed flat by a Chaos gargant.
>Six smiths were torn apart by chaos mauraders. Their skulls was used to smash down Sigmarabulum's gates.
>The Anvil of Apotheosis was shattered beyond repair.
>As Chaos poured into Azyr, a blood-red phantom swept through the battle field. All who saw it went mad, screaming only one name: Khul! Khul! Khul!

>Be'lakor surrounded Katakros, cutting him off from Nagashizzar. Then, >Neferata, Manfred Prince Vhordrai plotted to betray Nagash. But Arkhanhad secretly returned. Neferata and Manfred fled. Vhordrai was left to suffer Nagash's wrath. Arkhan sent Bone-reaper assassins after Neferata, but they told her she had three days to run.
>Ionus and Iridan went to meet Nagash. Iridan's connection to Morrda pushed back the undead. Nagash woke up and let them in. He was still weak—no physical form.
>Ionus and Iridan offered Nagash a deal: Sigmar's soul in exchange for his help in the final battle.
>Because Sigmar knew he was going to die anyway
>Eternus was killed by Manfred and Neferata working together.
>Back in Azyr, Schreech Verminking managed to stab Sigmar with a poison blade before being pulverized.
>The Everchosen's ritual had failed.
>Kroak and Vizzik dead in a fateful duel.
>Sigmar's Great Ritual was about to seal off Chaos forever. Chaos gods panicked.
>The plan required all the gods to pour their power in. Morathi and Malerion boiled the souls of every dead elf gods. Gorkamorka conquered Excelsis.
>It was perfect—until Malerion messed everything up.
>Malerion was secretly corrupted by Slaanesh herself.Malerion diverted power to Uhl-Gysh, cracking the perfect shield of order. Chaos flooded in.
>The final scene is the Everchosen standing over Sigmar's dead body, sword drawed as the world ends
From some random guy on tga but made boole sperg out, is apparently somewhat in line with his own intel. Though worth keeping in mind that when it comes to specific details like these boole has been all over the place

>death gets sigmar's soul
>Destro just gets Excelsis, used goods city
I don't care about leaks until they are proven but this detail is spot on
>>
Real 4th ed conclusion
>Morathi attacks Cities, need an empire for some threat
>Sigmar responds with war and invades all the Elf realms, albeit it's more like a border of the Rhine fortification for the others
>Archaon frees Slaanesh after skaven find him
>Before that Sigmar and Nagash attempt something to lessen his power but the Elves intervene
>Elves separate from Order
>Some humans join Alarielle because they have magic ghyran blood, she makes them like bretonnia knights
>Archaon strangles Slaanesh to death because his last breath is a secret to the end times
>Slaanesh empowers his followers and claims one of them will replace him
>Morathi eats Grungni because he was making Elves to rival her (Elf Stormcast?)
>Grungni gives the souls of the Dwarf gods to god Fyreslayer champion called Grungni (but not that Grungni) to guard - he quests to find heroes worthy to inherit them
>Order + Death is an alliance, Nagash gets a Stormhost who doesn't need a Ruination Chamber in the exchange
>End Times is happening and there's a big waaagh
>Elves have a way to survive the end times by trapping the realms' magic in forests but Sigmar is opposed
>Archaon doesn't kill Sigmar, Nagash was keeping Sigmar alive from a mortal wound from something greater than the chaos gods gave him - creatures from the void before the realms formed
>Sigmar releases his soul to avert the end times
lots of little details that are largely irrelevant like seraphon hindering skaven, kragnos being released by the new ork king and killing the dragon heroes, kurnous kills almost all the mortarchs

>>98506286
needless to say those two parts weren't what was wrong with the end times

the story was rushed and failed to bring both longstanding and newly introduced plot hooks to competition
the story was more focused on showcasing the newest model releases and setting up the next setting than it was with giving a satisfactory conclusion to decades of lore
some factions got the short end of the stick and barely featured or mattered, or were essentially spat in the face
the entire story boiled down to a few superheroes having to stop the last minute asspull that made everything else inconsequential

and that's before getting into the inconsistencies between the campaign books and novels
>>
Internally GW probably thinks of the End Times as a huge success. They made a lot of money off of it, and they never really retreated from even the more retarded parts of lore in AoS, even flanderizing Mannfred as "Mr. Betrayal, the Betrayal Specialist". So why not do it again?

Now that it is obvious all the leakers, Boole included, are very unreliable and some are definitely trolling, is there anything left that we can say for sure is coming with TLW?

At this point, the only thing I am confident about is 5th edition is going to have something big.

Realms merge, siggy vs archaon showdown, muh grimdark
The details are very much up in the air, but the above is basically guaranteed at this point. Anyone who pretends otherwise is (somewhat understandably) coping.
>>
>>98507426
It’s not unusual for leakers to have blurry pre-release pictures that they misinterpret. A example that always comes to my mind is Fatrak declaring a new Space Hulk was coming when we know now he saw the 10th edition “Terminators versus Nids” imagery. With the advent of AI anyone can be a leaker, maybe not even unreliable either due to those instances of AI going into private documents or exploiting system exploits to fulfill requests.
>>
>>98507473
>instances of AI going into private documents or exploiting system exploits to fulfill requests.
Boole will never show you the affection and respect that your parents denied you, even if you lap up his lies and excuses.

Has anyone noticed how you can't actually play the higher end of PtG? You can never spend that much DP because of all the restrictions in upgrade tables - only X keyword, every upgrade can only picked once
The absolute fucking state of it
I was thinking of making a Troggoth Hag but it turns out you max it out at 39DP if you take absolutely everything you can

I'm coping with the merging of realms part.

>It’s not unusual for leakers to have blurry pre-release pictures that they misinterpret.

I guess this is true, though the way a lot of these rumors are written seems inflammatory.
>>
>>98507494
I know it's more about the barebones effort they've made
I'm just going to increase the DP cost by the number of duplicates taken: 2, 4, 6, etc
The old Anvil of Apotheosis worked btw, they could've reprinted it
>>
>>98507499
Yes the most common ones are the merged world after Sigmar and Archie duel. I've only seen two that mention any kind of "grimdarkening" and mostly its mostly just Stormcast can't reforge anymore. Which honestly seems less grimdark than losing pieces of your soul until you're a lightning bolt on a suit of armor without emotion or thought
>>

>>
>>98508521
I’d have to disagree. Games Workshop dragging its feet for so long refreshing models means that for the better part of a decade, the old WHFB models have been a part of AoS and has influenced the aesthetic direction. Outside of giving the Butchers gutplates, the recent refresh of Ogors doesn’t really depart dramatically from the old Ogres and arguably the new Butcher infantry is more grotesque by making them legit fat instead of the usual strongfat. If they injected more “millennial fantasy” into it, you would expect them to tone down the cannibalism but they haven’t done that at all.
>>
>>98508603
I guess they would have went harder with gnoblars if they with millennial fantasy.

What marks a wizard as being a Warhammer wizard? Bright wizards are usually pretty easily identified because of the collar cages. Some of the orders in Fantasy at least have fairly unique identifiers, but not all of them. Other than literally having the symbol of their wind of magic on them somewhere, I don't think Jade and Amethyst wizards really stand out much from another setting's wizards.
>>
>>98508614
Oh yeah, that’s something slipped my mind

He mostly turned to Chaos out of need. His army of disparate tribes had zero chance to really take down all of the Freeguild armies - sure he could beat some tanks and overconfident infantry with a daring ambush, but once the Demigryphs and a single Stormcast show up it's time to fucking hide.

custodes only exist in 40k at all because of a crossover, which is funny. if they came out just a couple of editions later they'd have definitely been stuck as heresy only, and one of the biggest signs of 40k's rot wouldn't be around. sad we didn't get that world
funniest part was how when they were writing books in 40k after the sisters of silence had shown up in heresy books, they were like "yeah those girls went extinct". then the moment they made models for heresy, they instantly changed the lore they'd established. truly, gw care
