>what’s Trench Crusade?
A pseudo dieselpunk weird World War One setting flavored around fighting against the forces of hell unleashed accidentally by Templars during the crusades.

>How do I get started?
All the files are free online:
https://www.trenchcrusade.com/rules/

They used to be split between the website and the discord, but no more. For posterity's sake, the old mega will still be kept active even if it's unlikely to need updating: https://mega.nz/folder/70QH0BBa#Eg-blxYQKkY_C02wErnFTQ

Use these (and/or 3D printing) instead of the official plastics as their pricing contradicts the accessibility to the game (price wise) Trench Crusade was founded on.

In a world where souls are canonically real, the devil is after them and so on, any suffering undertaken by the flesh is but the plucking of nosehairs compared to the faltering or loss of a single innocent.
There's zero moral ambiguity in such circumstances.
Jimmy the allpowerful pedophile is out there and he's gonna diddle kids for the rest of eternity unless you stop him. Even if you're a right bastard, so long as you Gary Plauche some demons, you're doing the right thing.

>>98503026
Um actually demons are real and souls are real but some people are mean (but would never do a heckin' racism) so the only good people are muslims okay?

>What existing game’s rules would work best for reusing trench crusade minis for larger scale with larger numbers of minis and vehicles?
Savage Worlds Showdown.
Each unit has Toughness, and is either staggered, or dead. So unless you care a lot about knocking units prone (wouldn't really bother), you can just lay staggered units on their side, or mark them somehow. Units have different levels of Fighting, Shooting or Throwing (d4 through d12) and they average to d6 for normal troops, so it's easy to resolve lots of attacks at once with a block of d6s. Machine guns are 3 or 4 attacks at a -2 penalty, there are AoE templates in Small Medium and Large. Overall really easy to run.

Companion guy here, gonna repeat what I posted in other places about some recent issues.

> We've been seeing a number of issues with login lately coinciding with our recent transfer to a new host (largely in preparation for the Carcass Front and a likely traffic increase).
> While our recent fix has resolved things for most people it seems some users are still having issues with browser caching which is preventing the fix from 'being recognized' so to speak. To help with this you will likely need to refresh your browser's cache for the website.
> Depending on your browser you may need to do something different, but for most this can be accessed in your settings and, while on the site, you can do a full refresh with (Ctrl+Shift+R) or (Ctrl+F5).
> Also, due to a couple attempts to overwhelm the servers, we've added a login-limiting system. Combined with the above issues with logins, a number of people have likely been temporarily blacklisted from our servers. I've tuned back this login-limiter and hopefully reset everyone affected.
> Failing all of that, manual resets performed by us are generally a good last resort, so get in touch with our support email and we'll work together to resolve this.

I don't get it. What real, tangible benefit does a Heretic Legionaire get for throwing in with Hell? For the small price of their eternal soul, they get-

Avoiding immediate death at the hands of their fellow hell hole enjoyers and demonic overlords.
Lure of power to inflict pain. Many people don't want to remove suffering, they want to be in a position where they can inflict what they have suffered.
Revenge for sorry state of being that has gone past redeamablity so might as well fuck something up.
Spite. Spite is at least 25% of the posts on this board.
Don't know any better and now they're stuck with it.

At the start of the war the Court of the Seven Headed Serpent killed everyone who wasn't already black-of-heart in (what is now) heretic lands.

Not even 'those who begged for mercy' - only those who were already evil (psychopaths, sadists, etc).

So you can think of heretic territory as being 99% low-trust-psychos kept in check because their boss is also a low-trust psycho who also has hell power.

I think a lot of them are born in it, and probably raised in propaganda of heaven being bad, and being a traitorous sociopath being good.

Its probably a lot of physical/material rewards, immediate power, money, etc. They probably don’t have the concept of “eternal reward” that heaven grants, or if they do, they probably don’t believe in it.

Skill issue. Heretic better, climb the ladder, and become a noble. There's certainty in that, compared to religious life where you deny yourself, suffer and die, but might end up in hell anyway.
>but you fight hell! That means you get to heaven!
No, hell fights hell all the time. Do demons get to go to heaven for waging eternal war against hell? No, they do not. Demonic nobility fight among each other more than against the faithful, and it weighs nothing in god's scale.
>>
>>98506326
Not to mention your lifespan grows as you partake in atrocities of hell. Of course you have to do increasingly greater things, but you get favor as you live longer and blaspheme.

The promise of power of they work hard enough, the notion that they'll be the ones atop the world when Creation falls and God's kingdom is brought to its knees, not getting gigarpaed for failing to go along with the whims of their demon overlords, just being so broken they aren't even a person anymore, etc. And that's ignoring the kinds of people who likely get poached by the Beast or Metamorphosis.

Question: If Hell can deploy half demon mutant weirdos (All Court units, Warwolves and Artillery Witches) why can Heaven Deploy their own Half Angel Mutants? Heaven and Hell have a "If I go this far, you can too" war agreement which is why earth is a proxy war because Hell fully invade without God causing the rapture. Is Heaven simply being too fair?

Half-Angels as in Nephilim are not really a thing (as far as I know), so closes counter to half-demon would be Communicants imbued with fraction of Meta-Christ's power.
Active involvement of angelic forces is not great even for Christendom, as they generally tend to nuke the whole battlefield causing casualties on both sides (which is technically honourable martyrdom, but the manpower will be missed elsewhere).

this doesn't feel like a win at all 2bh.

IDK why but I always completely shit the bed in the trauma step, even rolling an 11 for an elite with 3 skills in the last campaign. I lost ~1500 ducats and 23 Glory (including 3 Observers) worth of dudes+kit last campaign just because of insane bad luck in the trauma step.

I don't even need advice I just wanna vent and feels sad.

I just wish VP could actually buy something in these campaigns. Some scenarios don't even even have a glorious deed for winning so you could end up winning a game with 4 of your models out of action while taking out 7 of the enemy. Let's say for some reason you failed ot get any glorious deeds or the enemy did like 3 and you only 1.

Then in the trauma step, you lose all 4 because unlucky while your enemy keeps all 7 and ends up being ahead in ducats and glory despite you dominating that game and having done everything right.

I just dread the trauma step because it reliably sours the rush I feel from winning a match. And it can't even be mitigated in any way. The field hospital which costs an absurd amount of glory, is exploration result dependant (IIRC), has some extra stipulations and all you get is the CHANCE to remove a battle scar while also being at risk for getting a new one, so it doesn't even affect troops.

I feel like I have at least some strategic input during all phases of the game, including exploration via certain exploration skills but in the trauma step I'm just 100% at the mercy of the dice and man have they been relentless in the past 15 games.
>>
>>98510436
Nephilim went extinct, far as we know. Crusading knights gathered some alloy they used in the past. Also god hates nephilim in christian lore, but we don't know what TC god thinks of them.

So what do people here think about gold in a campaign?
Im currently playing a campaign and everyone is on like game 5-6, but theres a few people who are having a giant gold surplus and everyone else also doesnt seem very gold-starved anymore.
Im guessing overabundance of gold is going to become quite common, the longer the campaign goes on.
Would another way to spend excess gold be a good idea? And if so, what would it be? Obviously the gold limits are a good idea and necessary but lots of excess gold just feels very... awkward.

The lore is boring because Hell is in a constant win-state. They've gotten everything they want and need. Endless suffering for centuries. They're all-powerful, unbeatable and can safely launch invasions from their Duchies in the Middle East. There's no risk to them. The only reason Hell hasn't won is because,

A series of mistakes that not even being amateurs could justify before the real shit happened that only the most ardent of fans will engage in misinfo acts of minimization and/or trivialization or ignoring valid observations.
>Discord drama
The drama was smallest but preventable as TC had the Inq28 guys run the de-facto official TC Discord. Then Arch fans/trolls/disgruntled Warhammer fans (rent free to this day) came in and doing their usual stuff the Inq28 mods went full retard and started banning and innocent others based on vibes and going "we don't care lmao." It was not a good look for the Inq28 teams and then TC officially sided with them that was an even worse look.
Then there was stuff like Aztec trolling. An inq28 mod dunking on WH40k fans saying they won't like TC because women are in it and got clowned on for being wrong and 40k has loads of women. More Discord drama and banning, every critic even valid ones get called sexist.
TC still sided with inq28 guys going full retard. Not a good look.
>real shit
Late KS books and 3D misprints.
>Tuomas allegedly calls wargaming for economically privileged then releases GW priced official plastics
>3D printing promises started falling apart. Especially when using Brandshield (GW supposedly uses) to trawl and DMCA basically anything remotely related to TC
>New Community license stifling fan work founding promises
Basically everybody who tries to make stuff will get Chapterhouse'd except you'll lose if TC goes after you.
The community is badly defensive. All valid criticism are said to be from Arch fans to trolls to chuds to WH40k fans to other rent free things to ignoring the problems or attacking sources.

Bless companionanon still with TC. TC has burned so much it should be a case study like PP with Warmahordes.

TC basically shat on people who were Christian or "right-wing" trying to please the "woke left." Then are shocked that they didn't like that and left calling them out, which was funny as the woke even went after for some shit they did in their lore and all. Also their world building was pretty shit and people been calling it out as tumblr AU fanfic bad. Which didn't help they just ended up saying their was no canon and everyone can be right.

They also had bad 3d models with resin traps, late books, and basically went back on not being like GW and went full GW the first chance they got.

Bumping the thread with my Lions of Ioannina, including John Woo Sniper Priest, an unfinished Sniper Priest kitbash, a Lieutenant missing his head, many Yeoman, two Trench Moles with Flamethrowers, two Heavy Machine Armor units (machine gun and flamethrower). The Flamethrower is making an offensive Italian gesture towards the heretics, and three shock troopers with greatswords. Using up some leftover Game of Thrones Lannister minis, really liking the look of a Stormcast base for Heavy Machine Armor. Tempted to kitbash some Winged Machine Armor for the Lieutenant just as a fun flex. Lore fluff is they’re a regiment fromAlbania who fought and failed to stop the destruction of Ioannina or Teppelini and thus wear those colors as they search for vengeance serving New Antioch.
>>
>>98511349
Mordheim notably allows you to bail as soon as you hit 25% losses (and you are almost always better off bailing at this point). Trench Crusade only gives you an RNG chance to bail at 50% losses, so you frequently end up getting almost completely wiped in a close game with no way of mitigating it.

Given that the benefits of victory are often literally nothing besides an exploration reroll and some VP, it sours close bloody games in the aftermath when you roll badly in the trauma step afterwards, even though close games should be the most satisfying otherwise.

TC literally consults religious authorities as they develop the world. They have a monk working on the latin of the game. People who don't practice religion, or have only superficial understanding of them, claim this game is attack against religion. Seen by how people claim sultanate has special treatment, when in islamic eyes the islamic factions are abhorrent. Its because they seek anything to throw at the game, and to confirm their already held beliefs of agenda.
>>
>>98538996
A bit weird seeing a religious Christian pulled in for tc advertising when this thing was meant to have that 80s-90s era anti Christian stuff.
What happened that seems to be reversing that?

I'm continually impressed by the Heretic Commando designs people put out - I keep printing more, even though I'll never use more than one of them at a time.

Same for Artillery Witches and Heavy Mechanized Infantry - just a ton of cool designs floating around.

I think the only "official" sculpts I use are the tank hunters? One of our heretics warbands might have a few official sculpts mixed in there, too.

Which poster or posters?
Are you a crypto troll trying to validate 1d4chan speculation on Trench Crusade anons?
TC has problems. Their 32mm scale was a big one. Should have been 28mm scale because that's where loads of the mini scales are for this particular side of miniature wargaming.

Its funny how gullible you TC tards are you suck up every single lie Tuomas shovels down your throat

Turns out the "Trappist Monk from the Vatican" who helps translate Latin texts for Trench Crusade is actually just some random Californian. Not even a real monk just a cleric in training at some random new LGBTQ church.

He's not a Catholic. The Vatican would unironically consider the church he belongs to as heretical.

I was always under the impression that pulling in a priest was Tuomas trying to course correct Trench Crusade's lore and win back lost early supporters.
Looks like a weird attempt to please his audience and try to win back what was lost in the beginning. Are those TC plastic boxes selling good by non-Warhammer standards? I can't really imagine them selling well considering that the warband box is worse value than a Warhammer 40k Krieg squad box.
No matter the context when a company advertises itself to be better than the biggest boy in the playground including monetary accessibility it should never be priced like that. Not everybody can afford a place for a 3D printer.
>inb4 don't like don't buy
I think that's what's happening and why a priest was pulled up in some attempt to try and get the burned out original backers back. We're probably seeing attempts at lore fixing to gain them back as of writing this post.

Correct what?
The lore has been extremely stable in it's presentation from the start.
If anything, there was someone with fairly strong knowledge of Christianity and Islam from the start, because the various low heresies that fuel the Faithful war effort are subtle enough that most nonpractitioners don't even realize them when they see them.
That is not the work is the ignorant or disdainful; I would love for the devs to announce they have been running the lore by an Imam and Rabbi they know to make the haters heads' pop like Scanners.

>The lore has been extremely stable in it's presentation from the start.
Unrelated to this argument about politics but the lore has changed over the years. Paladins went from a creation of a breeding program to being perfect 'Communicants'. Tuomas has spoken about how Artillery Witches were originally robots and then later changed to no one knows what they are. None of these changes are politically motivated but the lore was clearly being created as they made the game.I am pretty sure if someone compared all the old social media lore to the current rulebook there will be a lot of contradictions.
>>
>>98556679
>Paladins went from a creation of a breeding program to being perfect 'Communicants'
Easily could be combined, as the perfect Communicant would require the right geneology, combined with the blood of Christ.
>Witches
I don't think that even really applies, because all the lore surrounding them speaks of them being 'creations' made in Hell's forges.
>>
>>98556686
>Easily could be combined, as the perfect Communicant would require the right geneology, combined with the blood of Christ.
That isn't mentioned in the new lore, unless you want to share something?I cannot find any new lore which mentions the descendants of Christ at all.
>lore surrounding them speaks of them being 'creations' made in Hell's forges.
The new lore says this is a rumour while the old lore says this is 100% the case. This is a deliberate change which the writers have spoken about.

For New Antioch, they don’t have any unit that is exceptional when compared to any of the other factions. Where they shine is their “Fireteam” ability, which lets them activate two models at once and a cheaper 3-blood dice bloodbath to incentivize focusing fire. You can get 2 fireteams in base New Antioch and Papal States. You’ll want one model in the fireteam to add blood markers, and the second to use the Bloodbath to spend those blood markers and make it very likely the model really dies. Flamethrowers and grenades are good at adding blood markers. Heavy Machine Armor is a heavy weapons platform with their Strong keyword, I have a Machine Gun and a Heavy Flamethrower one. Food for thought.

The Papal States rely on their Trench Clerics to give models Blessing dice or make them fearless for close-combat, which helps Shocktroopers. That’s the highlights, hope this helps. Here’s my New Antioch Lions from Albania.

Companion guy here, reposting some info

Now that Carcass Front rules are being posted I want to let it be known that we had received these rules early so we can prep for release. Thanks to this, we are very close to making things feature complete. I wanted to let you know what to expect in (hopefully) the next week.
> All new Factions, Subfactions, Patrons, etc are included in full in our next release
> Scenarios and Glorious Deeds are included in name only for use in Campaign Trackers
> Exploration Locations have all their rules included, if you want the flavour text you'll next to purchase the expansion.
> Warbands will have an 'expansions' section which will let you toggle on/off the Carcass Front
> When toggled on, you have access to a digital tracker

I also want to mention that, for now and the next decent while, Trench Companion / Anchorite Support will be a one man show. I am still working hard, but naturally this means things may take a bit more time. For example I've been dealing with influenza the past couple weeks, and there isn't another dev to pick up the email slack. For that I apologize, but the train is still going!

But how do they sustain a viable population capable of supporting a centuries long war? It says heretics eat their own babies and sell baby meat in markets. So if all the babies (or at least a good portion of them) are being eaten or otherwise killed/sacrificed on satanic rituals, it stands to reason that the heretics would have faced complete demographic collapse by now.

This setting makes no fucking sense, even by its own internal logic.

It is a shitfest. Many of us are just tired of broken promises and just cling to tc to laugh like Star Wars fans did when the bad prequels came out and our hopes were dashed of good media.
Others are in denial of the broken promises or desperately downplay the mistakes like that makes things look good somehow. The choices and defense behaviors are why many assume trench crusade is a rugpull or a grift. Both words are fitting.
Part of why I come back here is to pity bump this general but I usually hope for good news like FFI coming clean and apologizing and then actually making up for the mistakes. But they’re pulling words out of GW’s playbook. Not pages yet.
Also the autism defense is very 40k flavored. Not in a chud flavor but still an annoying one. >>98566317 pic shows it. If you like toxic positivity minefields where one moment of existing out of line misinterpreted or not means angry bigoted true colors are shown and you get harassment that will be condoned then I guess it is better than the arch boogeymen we still blame unless a different one has taken arch’s place.

Why?
>>
>Noooo you cant make a profit and price the same as everyone else, kits must be 2 cents!!!

I think your taking the setting way to seriously. I understand it's important to keep things somewhat realistic but I wouldn't get bent over small tidbits like population growth and sustaining it under wartime, especially if there are very reasonable explanations one can think of on their own. For example, human breeding program, mass sustained rape and military orphanages, demon magic that let's women pop out babies in a fraction of the time. All of these can be true or not, it's a mystery. I hope they don't try to explain every little thing, that would ruin the magic.

I think the pipes are probably integrated into them somehow, I don’t think they’re necessarily in power armor, but moreso barely human anymore through a combination of rudimentary “cybernetics” and alchemy in order to do their time shit. But thats just my guess.

that's my guess too; they become some kind of primitive cybrog in order to use their super sand ninja powers and their armor is more of a containment suit for their augmentations rather than actual plating
there is power armor but it's those huge full plate orichalcum suits worn by some elite crusaders

What would be the systems?
Every PC has 2 "tough", Enemies has more or less depending on size and armor class, roll on a simplified wound table to determine injury (loss of limb, loss of an eye, etc)

Need a 7 to do most things, but can add or lessen that with skills? Things like that. Could be interesting to workshop
>>
>>98584197
Like I said here >>98583414 , it's an Only War hack, so if you've ever played any sort of Warhammer RPG system (pre 4th ed WHFRPG) the core mechanics will be basically the same. So:
>D100 roll under
>9 attributes with skills connected to them and talents for special traits, abilities and passive bonuses
>PCs will be members of some sort of military formation, either faithful or heretic
>there will be rules for creating your formation, with its specialisation, combat doctrine, traditions, home region etc. affecting what sort of skills and equipment all PCs from it have easy access to
>each PC has a specialisation (basically class) which determines their starting skills and give them some unique abilities. There will be both universal specialisations (like heavy weapons guy, engineer, medic etc.) and faction specific specialisations (cleric, stigmatic nun, heretic priest, sultanate alchemist etc.)
>character advancement is point buy, but each PC has discounts on certain types of advancements based on their specialisation
>Combat is pretty deadly and tactical, somewhat crunchy, but fast and instinctive once you get the gist of it
>There are also rules for quickly handling comrades: the NPC squad-members supporting the characters in various ways
>I will also include stats and rules for various TC-appropriate equipment, vehicular combat, supernatural abilities (miracles, goetic sorcery, Assassin and Observer abilities) and psychic effects (Fear, insanity, moral corruption)
Will obviously post it here once its actually ready to show, I mostly have battleforce/character creation stuff to write left
>>
>>98584314
I want to run my own campaign; if you could post your homebrew id appreciate it. How do you get it to function in Roll20?
>>
>>98584314
I don't know much about making an RPG system but my opinion is the lower the page number the better. I've opened up some RPGs and see the page count like 200-300 plus and was immediately turned off. Keep it short and simple so it's easy to play.

Had a great game tonight where the Lions of Ioannina went up against the Iron Sultanate trying to reclaim relics and barely came out ahead. 10-8, pulling away thanks to Glorious deeds. My Sniper Priest using the bell-scope of an Albanian monastery blew away the Jabirean alchemist real quick, causing them to get both the sniper and make an opponent fall Deeds. My own Trench Cleric really came through, siezing an objective while the opposing Brazen Bull failed to do so, getting us to parity.

Are the STLs still fucked? I was thinking of getting some yeomen to start.

Nice game anon. I just had my first game of trench crusade, no pics though.

I played Prussia, borrowed army since mine are still in the mail, against black grail. Sniper priest took a knight and thrall. The Lieutenant took a shotgun to the face and survived to slay the beast with his guts sized sword. My cleric was beaten to death by three enemies but a grenade and flame thrower made quick work of them. I killed everyone except for his sniper on a three stories building that was pretty much impossible to climb

>>98586221
Janovich said there were still STLs with problems in the follow-up video. I can't seem to get an honest, up-to-date answer from anyone about whether they're still working on fixing the problems with the models.
>>
>>98580712
Other generals for games with outspoken and vocal haters are absolutely fine but every time I check the trench crusade general it's the same retarded faggots fellating their favourite e-celeb podcasters and spamming "rugpull".
Are the said cocksucking podcasters still talking about trench crusade, or are these anons just choosing to continue to post here months and years later of their own volition?
>>
>>98586343
/awg/tist here.
I don’t believe a game gets this kind of level hatred just for giving chuds the heckin’ door shown. There has to be far more to it to why trench crusade gets a lot of hate. Personally I think it warmahordes’d itself too soon by rocketing too high too quickly.
Anyways I think a lot of the activity here is just an effort to keep trench crusade off /awg/.
/40kg/ regarded as a mess of a general still has less shitslinging by population percentage than here.
>>
>>98586680
>still has less shitslinging by population percentage than here
Because, as people have been saying for months, it is a concerted effort to shitpost about the game anywhere that isn't regulated.

>>
>>98586907
>the jannies are in on it
Where were you guys calling out janny bias when it was in favor of trench crusade? Used to be that even valid criticism resulted in temps. I think the bias has contributed to tc not having a good rep here.
>>
>>98586943
>Where were you guys calling out janny bias when it was in favor of trench crusade
You mean when the jannies would delete obvious shitposts and spammers?
The horror! The moderation team actually doing their jobs!
>>
>>98587105
>You mean when the jannies would delete obvious shitposts and spammers?
Yes. And so many valid criticism and concerned posts got hit so many times that it could not have been collateral damage mistakes.
>the horror
Yeah it was pretty bad. Anons who realized there was a bias and had to tip toe their criticism and question posts like redditors trying not to lose their precious upvotes. It didn’t make the vibes good and it soured perception of tc. The shitposts this general gets is probably their “revenge.”
>moderation team actually doing their jobs
You count incompetence and bias as a good thing when it favors you? Really chud coded there. Please say you’re a chud larper and I fell for your bait. It would look less bad for you and trench crusade here.
>>
>>98585621
That's fair, but personally I do like my RPGs to have plenty of ready content and options to choose from and at least some amount of crunch, especially when it's a combat heavy convention like in the case of TC. So I'm doing it that way, also to cover all types of factions and weird character types that can be played here. But for anyone who feels like making some more rules-light homebrew I of course encourage them to do so
>>98585609
I certainly will once I actually have it all properly written down in a form that's legible for others and that I'm comfortable with sharing.
>How do you get it to function in Roll20?
No clue about that, I only really run face-to-face games

For me as an IS player it's pretty much a bust.
IS having been crying out for a new patron for ages and they serve us up this House of Wisdom bullshit.
Handing out AP/dum dum ammo to a faction who's best guns pretty much live and die from being able to cheaply get +1 dice to hit via alchemical ammo.
Being able to get a +1 dice to Dash is nice, but the rest are varying degrees of shit.
Hell the last homunculus exclusive ability is both shit and doesn't work as non-LOS charges aren't allowed in the current rules.
And any Faithful warband can take the St. Bartholomew patron, but it's so obviously geared towards Trench Pilgrims it's not really worth considering.
Part of it is because Sublime Gate has two very strong options in being able to cherry pick a melee skill, or pilfering something from the NA armoury.
It just feels half baked and poorly thought through.
>>
Did anyone else notice? The alchemist on the patron list page is the alchemist from the Blood and Iron story. The text implies Leonid is taking part in battles to stop Leviathan from getting free.

I hope this is the beginning of a good course correction. Hopefully influenced by the community speaking with their wallets and so the next sets will be competitively priced. As for me I'm just gonna keep using STLs and the free rules. Freeloading off Trench Crusade if you will. Sunk Cost Fallacy is powerful. I'll at least make sure my models are "flexible" for different systems like what first post mentioned: >>98502816
>>
>>98619220
They're probably tired of problem outside of their control fucking them over with production, first onlygames during the KS and now archon delaying their big box release.
>>
>>98622042
I mean it is nice that they're trying to fix things.
The damage is still done. I just don't feel confident that these future plastic models will be properly priced compared to historical models and especially compared to GW. I want to be wrong though. Like better quantity models per box than what GW offers per box etc. Hopefully with no license stuff to Archon they'll actually price their plastics properly so the game won't be a walled garden. But I'm gonna stick with printed STLs. Like I said sunk cost fallacy is powerful stuff and I do need something other than Warhammer and Historical to paint.

Hello Anons. My friends want to try this game, and I was thinking of playing the Ethiopians since Aksum is pretty neat. I read through the rules and they seem to have a lot of changes from the basic Antioch stuff. Does anyone have experience with these guys? Does it work pretty well? I don't need to play the best thing, but I don't want to spend a bunch of time kitbashing and painting just to have something that sucks.
>>
>>98622420
To be quite honest Anon I think they're possibly the trickiest variant of the most high skill floor faction in the game (maybe ex aequo with the Irish). Antioch requires very good unit coordination and positioning. But they are certainly playable and I think their bonuses more or less balance out their drawbacks. The game has a very strong element of randomness anyway, so analysing things "in the void" often has little to do with how they actually play out.
Strongly reduced access to machine armour makes them incredibly squishy, with 0 big guys and a maximum of one genuinely extra tanky unit, which will probably be an issue.
They have some very nice melee bonuses, but lack in genuinely hard hitting melee weapons to properly capitalise on that, although their shotels combined with melee bonuses could be used for crit fishing
They also have plenty of extra healing/blessing options, which is useful, but not really gamechanging.
Their flanking special rule is pretty cool and I could see it being very useful in some scenarios, it also combines nicely with their melee speciality, since it allows them to get to the enemy faster
If I were to play them, I would focus on melee and assault weapons (with maybe one guy with some stronger ranged weapon to provide at least some firepower, or a few later in the campaign). Get maximum of Clerics/Holy Warriors fast so they start gaining xp and buy one of them a tabot asap so he can make best use of his blessing sharing ability.Use your heals and blessings heavily to protect your frontliners from damage.
Good luck and have fun Anon, they are certainly a very flavourful variant, I'd also strongly consider them if I were ever to play Antioch

I was briefly involved in making a Ben Hur-esque latin march for New Antioch.
Got put down fairly hard when I suggested using pig latin instead, despite that arguably being more 'realistic' to late medieval to 1915's church music.

Also yeah, people complaining about the IS clearly just think Islamic forces were only ever Isis-tier turban wearing suicide bombers, and have never read a history book or heard the word Ottoman.

I have encountered some issue with selecting "no promotion" for the promo roll after the first campaign game, also the app doesn't let me edit the failed dice number on the bottom in any way other than adding other zeroes after the first zero.

Please advise.

In the meantime i ended up manually editing the number of dice.
