I recently got into MTG, super noobie, and want to make an earth bending deck but it just doesn't seem to work for me. It just seems way too slow to do anything and the people I play with. The other Toph cards don't really have too many lists on moxfield so I really don't know what the problem is.Anyone got any advice for me?
Thirty (30) starting life is objectively superior to fourty (40)

>>98509558Oh, I see where you're coming from now, sure. I'm not sure special white snowflake born from mud blood was something they were trying to push like they do the other shit, though.

>>98509607please understand these libtards think 'reality is stranger than fiction' isn't a real quote
>>98509578I was thinking of making her my commander or this one instead but I cannot really find any decklists on moxfield to riff on. My knowledge on the card pool is pretty shallow so the best I can do is go to edhrec and see what people put in their decks.I also wanna be reasonable, we play on Tabletop sim but I also wanna aim for a somewhat fair deck so we play usually like bracket 3 decks>>98509601thank you, I think I played a deck that was called melon lord from moxfield and it was kinda busted with the one ring and those expensive double lands. But this one looks more reasonable
>>98509604>removalFarewell that doesn't hit graveyards every few turns is something entirely different than a few removal spells anon, but sure, go be the archenemy.
>>98509554>fill your deck with mana rocks so you can animate them into really weak creatures one turn at a time>makes your lands into creatures so your lands will all explode to 1 board wipeyeah that card seems like total dogshit. the other toph linked at least makes the manlands less shit, but both seem like terrible cards.
>>98509598>>98509600You're making it very narrow if you're saying only villians that are mo ogreen that aren't just big stomy dudes, and must be modern characters. So no, there really isn't anything in that incredibly narrow category.
>>98509590How is Atarka worse than any of the other Dragonlords (sans Ojutai)?
>>98509613Assuming youbhave a modern phone, get the Manabox app. It's a card search engine, a collection tracker, and a deck builder all in one. Look up "land"+"creature" as one search and you should find what you want.
https://moxfield.com/decks/QOP2dYgfCE2CXPvMJ2XPJQhow would (you) make a sefris deck?
>>98509615well the cool thing with earthbending is that when it would be sent to the graveyard or exiled it comes back tapped. Metalbender turns nontoken artifacts into lands so when you earthbend them they come back tapped. So an artifact that sacrifices itself for a strong effect comes back. Also when you play an artefact it triggers a landfall since it counts as land.Is it really that terrible?
>>98509633yes toph is insane and can easily infinite combo, that sandtranny is an idiot
>>98509625She isn't, but she's green.

Oh, you interacted with my predictable graveyard in anyway? I scoop.
>>98509663That is a dungeon, just the worst dungeon.
>>98509644Do villians not represent the worst of their colors? Does it not then make sense that greens would be violent mindless monsters then? What have been the villains in each monocolor in let's say the last 10 years? We have three other Praetors, obviously. And Valgavoth. Heliod and erebos, but they was originally made more than 10 years ago. Jace, I suppose. Lukka.Point is, there really aren't all that many.
>>98509674>play 3 creatures from the top 30 cards of your deck every turn>worstnah
>>98509675Violent mindless monsters are not villains, per se, they are just behaving with in their nature.Vorinclex however, had a mind and was just a dick, and was mono green
>>98509637how does earthbending interact with artifact creatures? Can you even earthbend them?
>>98509684All henchmen and mooks are just dicks following orders but mtg believes thay vorinclex being a dick is the pinnacle of green villainy in current year
>>98509663Still, not having red or green is a dick ache.Best you could do is cut out all the dogshit and add in piles of blue and black cars draw.
>>98509687solemn simulacrum is an artifact land creatureat the end of your turn you earthbend it, giving it +2/+2 and a delayed trigger so when it dies you get it backyou sac it to goblin bombardment you get a card and a land and the robot back
>>98509675NRATA but Is Jace a villain nowadays? I've not kept up on lore since Gideon died an actual decade ago, thought Jace was supposed to be more the viewer insert in a sense

Do you guys play the prelreases?
>>98509722I'm old enough to remember old jace flavor text quotes being chilidishly snarky because hey the game is 13+
>>98509702the only dogshit in the deck is the rule of law stuff, but that effects my opponents more than me; the biggest problem is zero ramp
>>98509709>Undoing the Phyrexian invasion, not opening the Omenpaths, and saving millions of lives is... le bad, actually, because if that didn't happen somehow Liliana wouldn't feel le sorry and would be le proud!
>>98509706Yeah I figured that's the idea, I just wan't sure because earthbending reminder text says "you turn it into a 0/0 creature", so I wasn't sure how exactly that would work on something already considered a creature
>>98509759ah good catch, the robot will turn into a 0/0 with 2 +1/+1 counters
>>98509735I wasn't commenting on your dexk. I meant put in all the initiative and dungeon cards, then cut the dogshit ones and add a bunch of card draw.
>>98509727Yes.

>>98509768and i'm gonna assume that for example those modular artifact creatures keep the counters so it doesn't really affect them right?
Thinking of replacing a populate card in the Miku deck with this. What’s the Strat with it? Dump 20 or so life to make a big fucker or do you do around 10 life so it doesn’t attract removal straight away?
>>98509812zero downside on a 0/0
>>98509826Be a man and pay all but 1 life
>>98509826assume you will get 1 activation total and decide how much 8 mana and life is worth

>>98509951yes I refuse tutors
>>98509951I don't use overpriced, but actually pretty terrible cards like imperial seal. No.
>>98508434not in commander but I used to do mono white life gain legacy with these bad boys 16 years ago and do alright. recently remade a vintage version on MTG Forge and its fun with Mox Pearl and Ocelot Pride + Ajani Pridemate + Soul Warden + Serra Ascendant but for commander? It seems kind of wack. and even as a mono-white lifegain enjoyer I think there is long overdue errata for Serra Ascendant to say "if you life total is 10 more than your starting life total, S.A. is a 6/6 Flyer" not just 30 life out of the gate because right now its really bad taste to play in commander, and its a card I really enjoy playing
>>98509951>timmy spams tutors instead of running redundancy in the form of cards with similar effects or end goals in mindI bet you seethe whenever you play against mill, don’t ya little Timothy?
well today was Hobbit release day. did you guys pick up a collector booster for 44.99 from Targ-gey? Here's what I got
>get stuck with two young high schoolers in a 4-man pod >that's how it is sometimes oh well>older kid is playing proxied-out bracket 3 Teval>operates on every stereotype about proxying you would expect>fetches out a fake bayou>the younger kid on an upgraded precon is like, "Is that legal?">older kid points out all his expensive proxies like Icetill Explorer, Cyclonic Rift, etc, says he dislikes paying money for expensive cards>stay out of it because I dislike proxies but I'm not about to denigrate a child for playing slop>the younger kid clearly dislikes proxies and is clearly agitated because he doesn't find it fair>then after a series of events the older kid goes for an altar of dementia infinite mill combo>everyone goes to scoop up>point out the younger child's commander is in play>it's fucking disa>the older kid is unaware and just goes for the combo anyway>tell the younger kid he really shouldn't scoop>they play it out>he mills the kid entirely>older kid: "what's pyrogoyf?">the younger child starts vibrating excitedly in his seat>the older kid takes like 300+ damage to the face>younger kid gets up running around telling his friends he finally won a game>was bragging to his friends about how the guy winning was using all these expensive cards but he beat him anywayThe game itself was horrible, but at least the ending was funny.

>>98510025very nice. what did they charge from the Speldy boy? I was ready to buy one of those but I could feel it in my balls that this collector would have the book version and it did. this is like when I was a little kid in 1999 and my mom got me a booster pack from a mall kiosk and it had charizard in it. good stuff though, singles is smart>>9851001344.99 was a good deal they were 58.99 at the LGS I went to for pre-release last Friday. and they charged the normal $40 for pre-release so it wasn't scumbag scalper central eitherI know the price is gonna drop more but this is like a $120 pull. plus I got Dancing from Dusk to Dawn borderless, Radagast foil, some other 10 dollar card, full art foil forest that looks insane (but only full art land I dont have is an island. might have to put an order in for one). but I wanted the full art version of this card and I got it for $45 instead of 80 for the non foil version. or maybe it will drop to $40, its obviously unlikely to occur but its what I hoped would happen and why I bought the pack. but yeah generally of course singles are the way to go
>>9851003737 dollars I think, something around there. I just remember it being slightly less that what TCG listed it as.

If you assholes play in an interaction heavy meta, you need to play this card. I just had a game go on for over 2.5 hours because people kept board wiping and building up giant armies where nobody could attack without someone else hitting them on the clapback. If any of the two decks that were green were running this the game would have ended an hour earlier. It's just one fucking mana!
>>98509799I don't even know what the deck is trying to do, there's so little focus.
>>98509985Do both, both is good.
>>98510174It makes snakes, plays snakes, gets snakes and hits you to cut your health in half until you are naturally dead, or fully instantly dead due to wound reflection.

>>98509799>>98509812Glowcap does +1/+1 counters (and land draw/ graveyard stuff I guess) and I don't know why you'd want that.Emeritus of woe relies on creatures dying on your turn which you can't reliably do.Icetill explorer and ramunap excavator are basically useless because you don't have reliable ways to fill your graveyard.Rottonmouth viper is fine, I guess, just expect it to die on first attack since you have almost no evasion.Sakura tribe scout does almost nothing, especially if you aren't drawing cards, which you aren't.Undercity exterminator is basically 7 mana exile one creature get a vanilla 3/3.Winding constrictor has no place since you aren't doing +1/+1 counters. You don't reliably enough have a 4/4 for garruk's uprising.Too many cards that are kind of good, but not picked specifically to work with this deck.Too little removalToo few lands (aim for 38)Not enough card drawToo many snakes for how little tribal support is in the deck.I would be surprised if this was playable in b2, honestly. Most precons would beat it to all hell.
>>98510219I'm not drawing cards with a commander that makes tokens with both idol of oblivion and skullclamp, phyrexian arena, and both planeswalkers (though granted they are high CMC) and Seshiro?Garruk is more there to be a trampler enabler but perhaps yes I should look for something else.
>>98510008>seething at actual childrenHoly fuck bro we get it, your dad and uncle viciously tag teamed your prepubescent asshole and you’ll never recover.
So I just feel like this game isn't any more fun and it's bumming me out. On an edible or off, people are just no fuckin fun. I don't get why people get so pissy when they lose to me? Half of my decks are just silly shit without staples, I lose most games. When I lose turn 3 or 4, and I play a deck and win on turn 5 'at the same power level' they get so fucking salty. I have a time theme deck with 3 extra turn spells - no tutors - just gambling. I run cards like time stop and 5 different whirls, dig through time, ultimecia, etc. >play a game>goof around, get stomped die turn 5 previous game. >next game, same pod>be 11 life turn 7>everyone is threatening lethal>have paradox haze, gilded lotus, time beetle>commander is pic rel>cast time stretch for 10 mana -> next turn>cast my commander for 7, hit nexus of fate, flicker him and get value>take 3 extra turns total>have void winnower, ugins binding, ugin, and a bunch of the pieces on suspend >make it to next round, ugin's binding triggers on void winnower, bounce everyone's non-land permanents>time spiral their board/hand/gy into their library>they scoop and call my deck bullshit and that taking 3 extra turns was against the rules
>>98510242Not enough, no. 6 card draw cards is not close to enough, not to mention some of them are meh at best or overcosted for what they provide. Black is very good at drawing cards, and green is very good at drawing cards if you have a wide or tall boardstate.I would never tell you to take out flavor for generic crap, but maybe there are some other cards that are also flavorful you could put in that synergize. Maybe you could even take out some of the generic crap you do have in there for them.Like for instance you could have a bunch of cheap Bite spells as your creature removal insteal of you fight spells or other generic removal. As ever, I qould recommend Manabox for building decks becauae it's a comprehensive card seach engine as well as a deck builder.
>>98510294If this is a random pod and not a friend pod, I would, as always, recommend building for bracket 2. It is by far the most fun.
>>98510294>shuffles all of his opponents non-land permanents, hands and graveyards into their library
>>98510294this never happened.
>>98510308yeah, I was playing my give away free creature squall deck, and I obviously didn't get shit done and lost not doing anything. This happens consistent enough with random pods that I just feel like shit, they just sandbag any fun and bitch/moan. I don't take 15+ minute turns, it was relatively quick 4 turns since I was just building a board. But if anyone from the pod before won - 'ggs' despite tutoring out a torment of hellfire with witherbloom turn 5 for X=1 millionbut if I flicker ultimecia with deadeye navigator and stop them from swinging lethal at me, IM the asshole.

Now Garfield is in his 60s and the other dudes are getting near retirement age. once those fuckers cashed out their fake stocks Hasbro will turn the money printer light on GREEN. either at Magic's 40th in 2043 or even earlier. they will start with reprints of true duals but yeah its a very anti-player, anti-game thing and they've been changing their own rules the entire time. all cards before X set, only Rares and uncommon from X time period, only certain uncommons, FOIL versions are OK, foil versions. are not OK. rares that were reprinted earlier are OK, Judge cards are OK its complete bullshit and there is no legitimate lawsuit that could stop it either.

>>98513692They dig in the mines of scryfall to find the interactions they want.Every card in existence is on Oracle, and therefor scryfall. Once you know all the tricks to easily search scrfall for thing like weird counter types, as an examople, you can spiral your esoteric build from there.
>>98512416You’re right, the bracket system outlines specific and objective conditions that dictate which bracket it belongs to. A good landbase, a few pricey cards usually used as combo pieces and consistent synergy throughout the deck doesn’t immediately put a deck up a bracket, that retarded shit is headcanon vibes bs.
>>98513719>A good landbase, a few pricey cards usually used as combo pieces and consistent synergy throughout the deck doesn’t immediately put a deck up a bracket,It literally does. All of those things are optimized deckbuilding, and there is a bracket for that. Its called bracket 4. The "optimized" bracket. You know this. You understand this, but you know you aren't a good enough player to play at bracket 4, so you need to angleshoot in bracket 2.

>>98513738>>98513741Nice. Accepted. but you know you are an outlier.
>>98513701the way I see it at least is that with a 100 card deck the likelyhood of drawing some specific interactions seem very slim, so is the play to have a lot of small interactions in your decks and hope that you have them sometimes available?
>>98513719>a good manabase>but i need proxied underground seas guys! You are a poorfag that wants the best cards but still clings to edh being le casual game because deep in your poor heart you know i will still stomp you harder on b2 with real cards no less
>>98513777Why can't I proxy temple garden?
>>98513763You can do common things in interesting ways.Setting up a 5 card esoteric rube golberg machine to drain the table takes creativity, and intelligent ways to achieve it.Or, you could just Vamp tutor for necropotence or ad nause to dig for the infinite drain loop. Or a hundred other known lines for a instant winSure. It does work better, but its a known quantity, and its not creative.
>>98513783Why can't you just buy one? That asked, I don't really care if you proxy cards that its totally reasonable that you could own.It is not reasonable that some 5c pile at a bracket 2 or 3 would own all the true duals.Someone COULD absolutely own them all and run them all, but they are still a cringe sweat, proxy or otherwise.
>>98513792True duals really aren't better than bond lands if you don't have fetches.
>>98513783You can, because as a reasonable random adult i will still assume you will buy it eventually (even if you wont)But proxying og duals breaks that assumption, you're fooling no one with your crassness
>>98513798But why do you care?
>>98513797Then why would one feel the need to poxy them instead of just the bondlands that are more believable?
>>98513804Because this is a social game, and we need to engage with your faggotry.
>>98513804>dude edh is a social format>dude why do you care about social norms?!Poor people simply are incapable
>>98513755Yeah, unfortunately cannot doubt that. After I started peoxying my whole dexks (outside of the cards I already own), one of the guys I played with immediately started talking about proxying shit like rhystic study and cyc rift.He didn't, thankfully. All the rest if them buy their cards and limit themselves based on how much they are willing to spend.

>>98513850>an equipment matters commander that isn't [everything that would synergize with equipment]I don't know what you're looking for here, anon. Maybe something when you cast artifacts or equipment, or when they enter? Maybe something like picrel that protects them?
>>98513749>no oneoh
>>98513854This isn't the UB general, though, it's the general general, so one of the two groups would have to go into a containment thread and I really don't know how you would decide that.
>>98513850Maybe you'll like that new Ekthi guy that's coming out soon, but otherwise most equipment commanders do indeed reward you for putting equipments on your guy and beating someone to death. Not sure what else you expect them to do.

>>98513497Tibalt's Trickery into it
>>98513929Trudge Garden is better than I let on, btw. Mana sinks, even conditional ones, are great for preventing dead turns.Due to the size of tokens you'll be creating regularly, I'd also recommend garruk's uprising for card draw with trample as an added bonus.Pic related does a passable impression of Cathar's Crusade for 2 mana less when you have Trostani on the field. Also combos with stuff like Herd Baloth and Walking Ballista
>>98513854Antiub is the antiproxy thread.
>>98513938No, you just asked for suggestions based on a list I told you I refused to look at, so I have no reference point. If you want to persistantly gain tons of life, soul sisters with life increase replacement effects is about as good as it gets. Or I guess giving lifelink to creatures that scale with your life total.
With Volo how do you guys go about recording creature types on his artifacts? I was thinking of just using a note on my phone so I can easily wipe it between games. Also which background would you recommend? I was considering using Master Chef.
