Had my game vs. Blood Angels today, I lost it 92-95. I played very aggressive to table my opponent because things were running at me full speed, I killed most of his stuff but it wasn't enough. I maxed out primary but scored less in secondaries. I still feel good about being able to score 90+ points vs. a very elite army playing purge but I could have done better in the secondaries.

It's difficult playing vs. Purge as GSC, my stuff simply dies too quick and easy. I felt I can't play cagey as two units of terminators, 6 bladeguard + sanguinary priest and a landraider were just running at me. I shot with 2 units of 20 Neophytes immediately to weaken terminators & destroyed the land raider with them. Patriarch's unit ate Mephiston and a few more terminators but I just couldn't deal with them in the long run. I couldn't get near Sternguard's unit in time and they won him the game on his 5th round.

The Ultramar sector is 500 planets. The Tau, IIRC, are at about 300 planets roughly right now (will be hard to make an accurate estimate until the 5th sphere expansion is actually done). Now that doesn't mean that Ultramar alone could take on the Tau since each Tau planet is far more efficient than Imperium planets, but technically there are sectors bigger than the Tau empire.

That's not what happened. What happened was that a pilot had been brood brother'd: i.e. hypnotized and implanted with the kiss. They attempted to pilot their Knight and the Throne Mechanicum purged the hypnotic conditioning when the connection with the Throne was made because it recognized there was a change in the brainwave patterns compared to what it had stored.

That sounds like a technicality to you, but it is important because to me it says that the TM could potentially be vulnerable to a 4th generation hybrid bonding with it. The hypnotized pilot failed because the TM had a frame of reference that it could compare to for that individual, but if a Knight House was infiltrated and sired hybrid heirs who then bonded with their Knights TM, that's the only frame of reference they have for those individuals.

That said it's a scenario very unlikely to even happen, as a cult attempting such an infiltration wouldn't know to expect an implanted pilot to end up betraying their presence inadvertently like it did, so such cults will probably just die in infancy every time.

You can give them as many special rules as you want, but the core problem is the same: they're independent characters that can't be attached to a unit of disposable meatbags to keep them alive for more than one shooting phase. They're overcosted for what they can do, aren't actually that good at what they're supposed to be good at, and die to a stiff breeze. They just don't fit into 10th or 11th very well at all.

From a Necron's POV there's not much difference. They don't want their worlds covered entirely in Nid pools and they don't want them sucked dry of everything.

Huh, I was wondering why the Manticore is 150 points despite being pretty unimpressive, until I read the special rule. Whenever it hits infantry, they get -1 OC for the turn. There are lots of popular units that are only OC1, meaning the opponent would straight up lose the objective in many cases. If they don't have 2 units, or they don't have an OC2+ unit. Which is most of the time.

So the Manticore isn't good on paper, but it does snipe several VP from the opponent every turn when it hits something on an objective. I really love that a unit can be pretty lame on stats but have an objective orientated niche. That's good game design.

I'm actually a big fan of 11th edition. Been playing since 4th edition and every edition has pros and cons. I actually love the objective focus and complicated scoring, with multiple secondary missions and the different missions for each player system we have right now. There are some issues with 11th like faction balance and lethality and simplistic listbuilding but I personally think the objective focus more than makes up for it. It's got strategic depth now, which is a good thing.

I've seen examples of the female faces painted well, but that all feels like stupidly extra steps to make a bad sculpt look good like the Golden Demon catachan model.
I'm not asking for Victoria Secret model face or 3D anime faces like from Final Fantasy kind of attractive faces, but I'm certainly not asking for ugly mini faces either. Do even the best plastic miniature makers of 28mm minis like Victrix struggle with attractive female face sculpts? I don't recall Victrix making female heads and they're regarded pretty well.

You can paint a woman's face well in miniature, it just requires a bit of knowledge in how to soften the mini's features with paint. Ironically, a lot of tricks women use in applying makeup work well for this. GW's modern SOB sculpts are mostly (barring a few examples) fine if you can manage that, but they're definitely not perfect and absolutely could be better.

When the official event TO was roped in and said that yes they DO reduce mortals the "influential" tournament players said his ruling has no basis in the rules and peer pressured him into hedging and saying to wait for an FAQ (even though the official tournament is literally in 6 days)

When it was pointed out that multiple tournaments have asked GW and got the ruling that they still reduce mortals they just went "WTC isn't GW" and doubled down

so now a team of assholes has basically succeeded in influencing the official tournament rules to their advantage just by peer pressuring and gaslighting people on twitter
