No. I don't believe the ability stacks Even if it did. 10 snakes will only hit once. and they do their damage first then the trigger happens cutting their life, so no matter what you'd leave them at 1.

ironic the toski poster was the first reply. I built a toski deck purely from seeing him spammed in here over the last few months.

its one of my favorite decks to play. its a Voltron equipment commander. I gave the BLOR guy a bunch of suggestions from my TOSKI deck that work well

its a bracket 2 but kind of too powerful (no GC's). and not very janky at all, I just end up with a Squirrel wearing a Champion's Helm, Commander Plate, Iron Man's armor, Lightning Greaves wielding a Shadow Spear and a Buster Sword. while riding a horse (the Dilu Horse that is)

I love having stax bozos at the table. All they do is slow down my enemies and eat my opponent's interaction one piece at a time. They will whine and cry but they never had a real chance of winning, you can't soft lock 3 players out of the game magic doesn't work like that. After they've (rightfully) been killed off I speed up my clock and start going for the win while both other players are out of gas. I love you useful idiots, never stop playing stax you'll win eventually!

>Can't sleep at night, knowing everyone is privately laughing at me when I show up with my non-foil commander

>Knowing she's a rare that's been reprinted a few times and she's a garbage card no one wants, her foil must be a buck or two

>Can't find a NM under $30, it's out of stock almost everywhere
>Of course, only her original printing would be available as a foil, and there's collectors trying to assemble complete foil sets driving up the price
>reflexively check websites every few weeks, wondering if it even makes sense to buy a foil Razia when I already have the only version of her I'll ever actually play because that physical card is one of the very few that's managed to remain in my favorite deck since I first received it from the friend who taught me how to play Magic

>find a NM for $15

It's actually pretty nice. Easily one of the better looking foil cards I've seen, and I can keep her in my little deck-box-side window while I use my original in actual games.

RW are not the colors for good mana ramping. Getting to 8 mana, let alone 10 or 12, is almost always going to be slower than the other players, who are going to be dropping much scarier things than a 6-power flyer.

She's been powercrept significantly. Any of the Aurelias is significantly stronger, and there's also Gisela, and that's just talking about Angels. In her own deck there's more than a dozen cards that would be stronger commanders.

But, that's largely what makes killing someone with Razia so satisfying. That big 6 power means it doesn't take much to get her to deal 21+ damage in one swing, and my deck is filled with lots of damage doublers/doublestrike enablers, so getting to 4x damage isn't too hard. She's only one Genji Glove away (though, to be fair, that can be said about most commanders).

I did my best to get an oversized version of Gisela at the pre-release back in the day, and I just checked to see what a foil oversized version would cost to match the foil regular-sized one I have.

$300+ is a bit much, and seems to be sold out everywhere. Kinda glad I didn't cave in and make her my commander.

Whoa.

I actually just looked at an article that says there were only ever 30 printed. And at least one of them was in moderately played condition (what the fuck), meaning less than 29 remaining that could be NM. I'd be better off just going to some Chinese printer that does oversized cards, especially since it's not a tournament legal card anyway.

Hell, at that point, I might as well get an oversized foil Razia.

he's a 5c asshole that lets you run anything, notably none of the other earthbending commanders can actually run all of the Earthbending cards and need to skip really strong ones, like Earthshape.
at 4 mana he draws probably 3 cards per turn if your whole deck is earthbending. and then you do generic ramp/landfall/land sac good stuff and counters matter stuff like The Earth Crystal (flavor win?)

>Do you just never even try to transform it
then transform is insanely hard to pull off even if you try to build the deck around it, so it's a lot stronger to focus on a specific theme, and the most supported themes in Commander are Firebending and Earthbending.
He's the best Firebending commander too btw, there's just no better trigger than his unrestricted draw trigger for either archetype. And it's a perfect match since Firebending adds a bunch of mana (so does Earthbending in a roundabout way)

>One land drop per turn?
Sidenote now that I saw the lands, because FORTY FOUR with only one drop per turn is fucking terrible. If you're going to run more than 36 lands, you should have something that lets you play more than one land per turn. If you want more spells, toss in more fetches to at least double-up your landfall triggers. Even if you don't want to spend the money on the two-colors, there's a shitload of Evolving Wilds variants and the fetches from New Capenna are playable in casual brackets. Having one land drop per turn is slow, even if you get multiple clones of your commander out, which in itself is dubious since a lot of your clones clone things you control, but don't get around the legend rule, which is going to fuck you if you're trying to clone Homer. I'm assuming you're cloning Homer because you barely have any creatures outside of clones. What you should do is get some cheap utility creatures that have relevance at any time while feeding into your gameplan, like a Wood Elves.

when I started in 2010 one of my roommates was teaching me and I learned with mana burn. but then I was reading the rules and saw they had just taken it out so it was kind of confusing. then if you played the duel part of Shandalar (Mana Link) there was mana burn. but on MTGO there was none

You're self mill landfall (sorta) but don't have a splendid rec effect.
I saw a Homer video recommended on YouTube, did that guy say clone Homer? Because that would let you mill x^2, but none of your clones will let you have multiple Homers.
Lazav, any/all of him synergies. Actual landfall triggers; obby, roll elemental, avenger, then work back once you like them or not. Ramp; splendid rec, aftermath analyst, titan; lumra and will of sultai are expensive. reanimator package; reanimate is the best and dread return is easy for self mill. Anything that returns stuff from gy to hand; emeritus of abundance, just plain regrowth or even all suns dawn. Nonlegendary clones. Tormod's crypt.

It is probably due to the commanders with extra colors needing to cover additional themes in order to justify those colors.
That said, Ozai probably strikes the best balance in terms of functionality while being a more specific firebending payoff of being able to stockpile the mana from it. I think that gives you the best blend of focusing on the mechanic without just being 5 color soup.
>>
>>98538339
The problem is Monowhites "hahaha you are the catch up color". Very very few monowhite cards can be outright good unless you are playing catch up. If you are catching up, you are behind for a reason. I have no idea why this has been the design theme for monowhite forever.

Finally going to throw this together for FNM commander tomorrow. The deck isn't complete, and I still need to fiddle with this pod chain in pic. An unintended side effect of going all-in on the FF saga summons is that a shitload of them sit at 5, so my pod chains feel cucked.

>which is why I've got a few tutors to grab them more easily
Using a new tutor to grab a one drop that's just a bonus?
I'm going to assume you're a bit new, because you're falling into the edhrec trap of reading a commander, seeing a type in its textbox, and going in on tribal, rather than actually playing into what the commander does.
A few crabs are good for making Homer's ability worthwhile, but an extra land will make up for some of the clones while accelerating you for when Homer inevitably dies.
And for fuck's sake, get a Phenax, God of Deception and Mutable Explorer in that list. The former lets Homer mill for 9 even if you don't hit your drop, and the latter is a crab that triggers your landfall.
Also, Water Stone and Fraying Sanity.
Forced Fruition if you want to be nutty.

For that other anon's point, mill sucks unless you're either so fast you get a table-wide 90 card mill out quickly, or you're playing from graveyards, because nobody is trying to help your gameplan, you're going to get salt from newfags who don't understand how randomization works, and at worst you actively help an opponent. You practically need some way to either go all-in on exiling yards constantly, or steal shit from graveyards. Animate Dead is reliable and cheap mana-wise. Geth, Lord of the Vault is nutty and you should be ramping so you'll have mana to spare. Captain N'ghathrod is repeatable. Hell, anything like a Wight of Precinct Six for payout.

Mill's not a new archetype, and with Homer you have the avenue of doing it with a payout for ramp. You should be looking at that.

And seriously, if you're not going to toss i shit like Exploration and Azusa, cut that land count and add in more ramp.

I haven't seen the video, but no, that's not the main goal. The clones are for the hedron, ruin, and uchuulons, mostly
>but none of your clones will let you have multiple Homers.
Spark double, irenicus' vile duplication, and sakashima all allow for non-legendary copies. I only need one of them to allow for the other clones to all copy the og, but that's honestly more of a benefit than anything else. It's a lot harder to justify wasting removal on a copy of a 1 drop crab than it is killing an increasingly-expensive commander, which is why I'm more focused on using the rather unassuming crabs as the main wincon over homer, who is merely another source of mill. That said, i definitely need more acceleration, because playing it against my more removal heavy decks usually results in a slow win, if it wins at all, so I'll add most of your suggestions. Would you remove the counterspells to make room for more land acceleration?

>This is always bad.
All the most powerful cards in EDH are based around the idea that it's a multiplayer format, and relying only on your own triggers is not going to be as effective as taking advantage of your multiple opponents having considerable more resources/triggers than you do.

Cards that would be garbage in 1v1 but trigger each upkeep/endstep/etc. surge ahead of cards that only trigger once on your turn. Cards that can clear the board state are effectively essential unless your deck is so fine-tuned that you show up to a poker game to play solitaire.

>>98539192
In any kind of artifact focused deck, it lets you dig for answers in a pinch, or draw a good card when you've got a surplus of mana or nothing to do. Even if you've got only 5 artifacts, looking at the top 5 cards to grab a counterspell or a boardwipe is REALLY useful. It's not hard to shit out artifacts these days either, what with treasures and clues and blood tokens and food tokens and what have you. Plus, it's also from the bonus sheet and is a mythic, so it's kind of hard to pull.

No, it is not. The ability to freely search you library for a given answer constitutes a toolbox. Vanny is too limited. Sisay (both of them) are toolbox commanders, Vannifar is a pod that has a very linear playstyle and going outside of the linearity to find answers instead breaks her combo line. Contrast with Sisay, Weatherlight Captain, whos only caveat to her tutor is her power. Sisay is also linear, however she does not have her lines broken if forced to tutor an answer.

thats really hard to say. Riding the Dilu Horse might be my favorite spell in the deck. it's so hard to interact with (basically have to exile Toski to get the effect off) since its not an enchantment but the effect persists.

in almost all cases unless someone has blue knights with Herald of Hoofbeats you're gonna be unblockable and drawing more cards. its only a 1¢ card on MTGO where I prototype and test (and play a lot) of the decks but you don't really see it in person since the actual card is 600 bucks and even proxies are hard to find. I have a couple though.

I really like Blackblade Reforged (equipment) as well, gets ridiculously big quick. Shadowspear just always works so well. Silent Arbiter has to be the secret MVP of the deck though.

honorable mention would go to Buster Sword but its really more a "win more" card.
>>
>>98539789
Probably, but when they keep pumping out new 4c commanders in one color combo it does make people want more options for the others regardless of how different from 5c they actually are. With how haphazard they've been with creature type erratas in the past 6 years I have to wonder why a legendary type errata is a bridge too far.
>>
>>98539825
Honestly I'd say it's not even worth the bother for the 0.001% of players that want to run them but can't convince their group that these super mediocre cards from RTR are okay. But at the same time they did the type errata of "Book" with 0 cards that care about it.

they used to be capable of great lore. urza & Mishra's stuff was interesting. weatherlight saga was pretty dope I thought. Garth One Eye from the 1994 book Arena was sweet but took them like 20 years to make him a card.

the OG planeswalkers in the 2000s with Jace, Ajani, Lillian and all that were not bad either until they fucked everything up in the last 10 years, kept retconning everything and then the nail in the coffin making half them lesbians and gay and/or retarded in some way.

and having phyrexia beat mirrodin was stupid and closed the door on good shit (phyrexia is just an evil cancer that could have spread elsewhere)

very cool. for more card draw in green, theres beast whisperer. or SHIIIIIIIIEEET youre in blue just go Mystic Remora. theres also the green card that at the beginning of your upkeep if you have a creature with the highest power to draw another card.

also don't forget that Magus Sister's you have to randomly choose between the 3 different lore chapters. the card seems so good but not possibly getting to do all the chapters makes it kind of suck and why I took it out of a deck.

if you also want some more FF flavor, Sazh Katzroy & Sazh's chocobo are good. throw in a ponder & preordain for draw as well.

and I'd really recommend a couple splashable counters like Swan Song (relatively expensive though), An Offer you can't refuse (has good Rikku art), NEGATE and Defabricate (any artifact, enchantment or triggered or activated ability. that means you can counter a planeswalker ultimate)

you also need more green ramp I'd at minimum add Nature's lore, farseek, rampant growth & cultivate.

if you dont care about more expensive and/or older cards rhystic study and sylvan library are no brainers.

which is also why they never make good UBR commanders. Sauron is pretty good but just doesn't do it for me. and Thraximundar (from 2009!!!!) really has to have whats now called "bracket 4" to actually get on the board in a reasonable time and keep him there (with force of will type stuff)

Historically it's always been different between the various formats, and in EDH it's always been more of a question of what commanders were the most broken rather than what two colors had the strongest cards.

Blue is far and away the favored color in eternal formats where cards like Force of Will are practically a necessity, and several of the most broken cards ever printed were Blue, but in the standard rotation it really was quite topsy turvy. Just looking at the championship winning decks gives us 5-color, 5-color, Mono-red, Mono-Blue, RB, An infamous UB psychatog deck that scarred people for years to come, GWU, GW, and so on, quite a wide variety, and deliberately so. Mostly what determined the strength of a deck was just what the most broken cards were at any given time, and those rotated between the colors almost with every set.

Looking at the strongest decks in EDH, blue is definitely favored, but Black is not. Black does bring a lot to the table, especially since Thassa's Oracle + Demonic Consultation/Tainted Pact is the high standard for how good a combo should be, but the importance of White is probably far more significant, because it's what lets you play proper solitaire with cards like Grand Abolisher or Voice of Victory, and Red provides plenty of win conditions/combo pieces. Decks like Vivi and Ral, Monsoon Mage make me think that in CEDH, UR might actually be the strongest two-color combination, though completely busted ass cards like Kinnan throw that off a bit.

At the highest levels of competitive magic, if you are at all concerned what's in your opponent's hands, you've basically already lost.

It's kind of like competitive Rock-Paper-Scissors. Since the ultimate strategy is just to be as unpredictable as possible, which essentially means to be as close to truly random as you can feasibly approach, hardcore competitors don't even decide for themselves what they throw anymore and instead just follow a sequence of randomized throws on a computer printout, and let pure chance decide who wins.

CEDH is similar. You build the deck according to the strategy, and after that it's just autopilot, with whether you win or lose just a question of who got luckiest at the table.
>>
>>98540298
funny how you posted telepathy when that and urza's glasses actually do see some play from time to time, proving that at a baseline it's worth looking at other people's hands
now whether that's worth a card is the question: unfortunately discard has a drawback where you're spending 1 mana to remove threats that opponents haven't even committed resources to so discard fundamentally sets you back; a lot more power has to be injected to make it viable in a multiplayer setting
and interaction is actually useful that's why rog ishai works, even though it's rhystic + copy enchantment that's doing all the heavy lifting in that deck

>funny how you posted telepathy when that and urza's glasses actually do see some play from time to time, proving that at a baseline it's worth looking at other people's hands

I don't think it's that important in CEDH, especially when people are winning turns 2-3 and if they're not winning on that turn you probably can guess they didn't have what they needed anyway and you were better off having a card that could make yourself win instead.

Telepathy is a great card in more casual play, and a painful nemesis to my preferred style where bluffing is 80%+ of my strategy and theatrical moves are the remaining 20%. It is, however, a card that has inverted strength: The better you are at the game, the less useful it is to you, and the higher the tier of play the less useful it is. Either you can guess what's in your opponent's hand anyway or your deck is good enough that you don't care because if you have to play around your opponents that means your deck is going to be too slow. It's a control card, and control is too slow in the world of optimized combos.

As a side note, even in casual play Telepathy does have a huge drawback, in that you give the entire table a whole lot of information, so they can optimize their answers for each other while you remain a black box, so if there's any extra answers they are reserved to deal with pretty much anything you throw down. You basically go a card down to give everyone else information and make yourself a target, and most games I've seen where someone dropped a Telepathy it worked against them.

It's a fine card for Commanders that like to play guessing games and benefit from already knowing the answer, but even for just one mana most decks are not going to want to run it.

Perhaps because Gitaxian probe is Street Wraith plus Benefits.

But, Street Wraith saw considerable amounts of play even when it was powercrept by almost-objectively better cards, and in fact saw an increase in play because it helped increase the deck-thinning effect of those cards.

In EDH, deck-thinning is not as useful because thinning 99 cards down to 98 is not as big a percentage as using four copies to drop 60 cards to 56, or insane stuff like using multiple x4 thinners to drop it to 52 or 48, but free spells on the other hand are a big deal, particularly when they only cost 2 life in a format that starts with 40.

I think Street Wraiths is probably underrated in casual edh, not because 2 life -> thin 1 card is such an amazing bargain, but because it synergizes with so many well-supported themes. If you have one draw trigger, discard trigger, or cycle trigger, it becomes a potential 0 mana combo piece. and if you do any graveyard shenans at all, like delve, I think it almost becomes autoinclude. Its mv makes it amazing for collecting evidence, I'm working on an Izoni Center of the Web deck where it's obviously amazing but also Analyze the Pollen and Extract a Confession both love this card.
>>98540653
the unspoken downside / opportunity cost of all of the bauble / git probe / 0 mana cantrip effects is that they fuck up your mulligan. a git probe or street wraith in your opener is essentially a facedown card, so it messes with your ability to tell if your hand is playable
