we usually share things on requests instead of having a centralised repository for everything because those don't seem to last long, or at least noone bothered to make one after the one we had years ago was brought down.

but requesting everything at once is a bit much.
the OP should have the battletomes of this edition and those should give you enough of a priming of everything including the timeline.
lexicanum is good for general info with sources for what it says.

for some good short reads, check the free short stories gw released at the end of the first edition, they're arguably when the setting truly found a footing and they're pretty good and evocative, compiled here https://www.tga.community/forums/topic/27094-malign-portents-the-compiled-stories/

For the OBR, I'd love to see a large bone construct that Katakros himself had to approve the construction of due to the bone and magic need to make them, snd they are used as mounts for either the elite soldiers or even the Legion Commanders, kind of an OBR answer to stardrakes.

these animals are a perfect example of a trope that we often see in today's fantasy licenses : what if ordinary beasts but with elemental connection and powers ? I'm sure the lore for these Gyrochs will be something like since they're connected to Ghyran their shit is a magical super fertilizer; it's the same thing with the Lumineth wind fox, kangaroos and mountain cow. There are are also animals like that in nu God of War (2018 and Ragnarok)
I know this concept has been a part of aos since the beginning with the Zodiacal Godbeasts but I never really liked it : "le quirky wholesome chungus elemental beast" feels like a very reddit idea
>>

I don't see how that's a problem for you. Shits real good is not some super special power that's impossible to imagine the influence it would have.

i'm quite fond of this lil nigga
if they do khazalid chads then i hope they don't just make them ultra generic dwarfs, though. i would love a unit of guys like this, as rangers, but generally gw feels like they've been super understated with ideas over the past year or so? like, they have done cool models, but little which feels 'out there', besides maybe the platforms on the backs of the city ogres/giants
i love the aesthetics they've gone for, but there is that feeling of, oh, they would never make idoneth now, that's just too zany. i guess i just hope if they finally do umbraneth after all these years they're not just dark lumies with cold ones instead of horses

I get you, as much as I love the classic dwarf look if I wanted that I'd just go grab the TOW models. Surely they'll have some gimmick/aesthetic quirk that'll make them different, if they're autistic enough about keeping the fantasy games apart that they redid the chaos warriors yet again to differentiate them I can't see them just doing dwarves but on rounds

I fucking get it now. Started putting my first models together this week and I get it. Why is this so fun? Have a few more plastic models to put together and prime (Helsmith spearhead) before I start with the base paint.

GW store manager was kind enough to give me two skaven models and a SCE model to experiment with for free.

Have some supplies coming in this weekend (lamp, tweezers, mat, gloves, and general art supplies).

Not sure if I have any latent artistic talent, but we'll see. The fear of painting badly isn't there anymore. I understand you now Da Vinci, Rembrandt, Monet. Michelangelo and Raphael. Wait for me in those hallowed halls, I'm coming.

Just wanted to share the joy with my fellow fags.

i am optimistic and also very eager to see what the new dorfs look like. I feel the new ogor mounts/helmets, the helsmith engines show that they are still willing to do something more original but they probably are less likely to go for a super commitment to a certain theme like 'dwarfs but mega steampunk' or 'elves but Atlantis' like in years past. as those wacky options are certainly a bigger risk in terms of how they'll be received by the audience. i feel that new bonereaper underworlds band was, although wacky, was a big flop and are unpopular.

i hope they arent too techy. im planning to potentially run a cogfort crewed by dorfs but if they have their own gyrocopters and steam tanks it wouldnt be anywhere near as cool.

i am planning for the new dwarfs to potentially be my 4th and final army i collect.
>>
>>98540929
Supposedly that rumor engine with levitating rocks is some kind of floating dwarf throne thing, which might give us an idea of what direction they're going in.
>>
>>98542362
>>
>>98542362
They'll surely have floating rocks as a core part of their design. I think instead of dwarfs they'll be floating rock gholemkind actually. The rumour engine basically confirms it.
>>
>>98542372
It's kinda funny to think that Votann did it first, but yeah, I'm expecting amped up rune magic and golems to set them apart from regular old boring dwarfs. Helps match them up with Fyreslayers better too, since they're already all pumped up with fire magic and lava dragons.

I do wonder a bit if they'll keep them as just having really good priests ala Fyreslayers, or if they'll cross the line into actual wizardry.

I would respect it if there had been actually effort to make a whimsical daemonic walking tower ala howl's moving castle, with proper nurgle details like rotting wood, crumbling stones, rusted metal, daemonic growths reclaiming it like moss or ivy, but this is just lazy. Have any anons here actually done a cogfort?
>>
>>98543280
Even the basic cogfort is essentially reddit slop desu

I mean, there's no effort in it to make it look like some kind of marvellous da vinci machine, its literally a stone castle (perhaps one of the worst possible materials for a *mobile* fortress, due to its poor strength to weight ratio), on legs

A sensible mobile fortress would be either a combo of metal/wood or purely metal
>>
>>98543332
>Even the basic cogfort is essentially reddit slop

I think it's perfectly cool model, it does what it says on the tin. I'm not sure what reddit means in this context other than you personally do not like it, or it's too popular so you have to find some way to like... Make yourself seem slightly cooler by not liking it? I dunno dawg, it's just a cool walking castle with a shit ton of guns on it.
>>
>>98543332
Im not saying things need to all be realistic in a fantasy setting - but rule of cool works both ways - things should look like they might actually work because that contributes to the cool
>>
>>98543332
Conceptually it seems more like an actual metal device the KO would make.
>>
>>98543341
I feel like it'd need more metal and dorf faces to look KO.
>>
>>98543336
You ever heard the literary advice "kill your darlings"?

It also applies to model design - if your creation is basically over the top, self-aggrandising wank, you should cull it
>>
>>98543332
The fact that it looks like a castle is exactly what's good about it, though. Any retard can shit out a "realistic" metal walker design

>>98543332
I’ve always wondered if it feels good to be intentionally retarded. The top is quite literally a DaVinci reference with its shape looking like his tank. The stone is a facade. And the whole thing is a combination of the materials listed. That’s your 3 “complaints” soundly settled.
>>
>>98543346
I dunno man, I feel like AOS has always been more towards the absurd and high fantasy concept end of things. Having stuff be more over the top is what makes it AOS as opposed to more fantasy, I remember anons here complaining about how AOS was turning into mudcore garbage.

I think something that's got a feasible system of functioning and is somewhat more grounded WHILE ALSO being an over the top thing is what helps it fit into the setting even more.
>>
>>98543354
They're both cone roofs. That's it.
What kind of roof is a tower supposed to have?
>>
>>98543347
No, it sucks. Stone is a terrible material for a mobile fortress, it resists movement and breaks upon itself due to its own weight once moved. Its like trying to build a bus out of a pile of bricks.

You ever see that top gear episode where they upgrade their cars with inappropriate materials? Clarkson upgrades his with bricks, with predictable results.

>>98543354
Thats still a stupid amount of stone, even if its a facade, metal plates shaped like overlapping shingles makes so much more sense.

>You ever see that top gear episode where they upgrade their cars with inappropriate materials? Clarkson upgrades his with bricks, with predictable results.

Yeah but those are cars and not a giant mechanical walking device powered by a magical super furnace.

The stone facade is there as a cheap protection considering the whole point of the cogfort is for it to walk forward and take a hit. The only thing worth protecting is the people inside and the backside with the engine. If it's being mass produced perhaps the cities don't have as much metal to spare for that as opposed to stones and masonry.
>>
what kind of autism stops people from painting the stone parts as metal again?
>>
>>98543386
You don't seem to understand how inefficient a stone "facade" would still be. Even just metal plating from scrap metal forming shingle shield layers would be better.
>>
>>98543386
>If it's being mass produced perhaps the cities don't have as much metal to spare for that as opposed to stones and masonry.

You retards reach for the most absurd handwavey combinations of reasoning I swear.

"Um its magic but also we're poor and don't have much metal, that's why most of our troops are heavily armoured despite looking like village idiots, or otherwise protected by big shields covered in time-consuming metal filigree" (historically if you were short on metal, your melee troops had shield + spear, didnr wear much armour, or maybe just a helmet).

Literally leaving the stone off would be a considerable mobility advantage for something thats doing its attacking from range anyway, but in any case, thin plates of steel would be the obvious and more efficient replacement
>>
>>98543410
>big shields
made of wood

>Um its magic but also we're poor and don't have much metal

YES, the engines are so important they get a whole ass fucking air balloon to fuck off and leave the rest of the fort behind if shit goes bad. If anything what's stopping you from believing that the wood on the exterior is a facade too and they do have a thin steel interior frame, that would match the idea of having aesthetic be a focus considering the filigree and gargoyles all over.

>Literally leaving the stone off would be a considerable mobility advantage

Are you saying so they can go faster? I don't really think that's the main focus here. Also aren't they controlled manually by some weird homeless guy being broiled alive inside.

Also if metal and all that was so easy to come across for what reason would the whole thing not be made out of metal? They're Cities of Sigmar not Kharadron, they don't have that level of production tech or means to do so. They're working with what they got which is why it's just a guard tower with legs.
>>

Look at the steam tank.

Its a steam powered carriage, with piston driven wheels and a metal shell in the shape of a train prow/ knightly horse barding. It very naturally brings together these ideas without complication or having to explain itself.

I actually like these models a lot, especially the lore bit about how the wolf is actually smarter than his rider. But not for how much they cost.
Anyway, my choice would be a spiderCHAD themed variety thing. Arachnarok upgrade kit (the base spider still looks good), new spider riders, perhaps a unit of horrible hybrid spider-goblins, spider chariot(s). Named character could be a goblin version of a dryder, basically a gobbo version of a daemon prince of the Spider God
>>
>>98544537
I don't think people dislike the models per se, I remember a good bit of hype when they got revealed.
However the triple whammy of
-not really fitting with the rest of the army visually (and maybe thematically)
-absurd prices even for gw
-dogshit rules (initially)
Kind of put people off on them. Also doesn't help that the army set was pretty garbage (and far inferior to the later spearhead).

Only the snarlpacks were a bad addition because they already had the normal cavalry and the range isn't large enough to start thinking about elite versions of normal units
turning the diver into a mobile platform for them is alright, even though they made it too big, the special character is good too

maybe I'd have given them pump wagons, but that's because I envision the expansion of the sun goblin sides being about the goblin pirates adding to the wolf riders
>small pump wagons
>medium sized land sailer
>bigass flying ship
maybe a set of gitmob goblins on foot that would get carried by the chariots or ships could benefit the range a bit
>>
>>98544592
i dont think they are any more out of place visually than spiderfang or troggoths. the army is already a motley crew of different shit

the difference between snarlpacks and snarlfang units was meant to be that one is the skirmishy shooty hit and run annoyance unit, while the other is a harder hitting melee specialist elite shock charge unit.

but they forgot to make the shooty skirmishers actually good at shooting.

>>98544618
its more of the sun imagery that they have that clashes with them. You know, they dont really have the GLOOM aspect to them, they're also just more asian- sorry. Zelda coded to them which until ogors was kinda leftfield for destruction.

>>

Spiders, moonclan, troggoths, squigs, all work as an army because they're tied together by being weird freaks coming out of the clammy, damp, creepy-crawly places of the realms. All the promo material has them in weird caves with fluorescent gaint mushrooms, that kind of shit.
Gitmob meanwhile do not fit there at all. They're the wolf/chariot army, all their promo material is set in monument valley style badlands. Those two aesthetics are at odds, certainly more than gloomspite previously was.

Blanche's concept art for gsg went harder into the spider aspect too (as well as the fungus mutation stuff). Aside from the obvious spider riders (now with moonclan instead of forest goblins) you also had a four legged crossbow guy. There's also the squig lancer guy with a spider helmet (whose model is pretty clearly the basis for the loonboss on giant cave squig by the way).
I also think the stinkhorn and the mold spreaders could be great weaponteams-esque type models.

Me too anon, me too. I really wonder what other armies he made concepts for, and if so how they differed from what thr army actually ended up looking like. Some of his stuff like the kharadron or all the silver tower stuff is pretty one to one adapted, but his stormcast and gloomspite stuff is obviously a bit removed from what they ended up going with. Doomfags will rope regardless when the next earnings report comes out and AoS continues to be the world's most popular fantasy wargame by a country mile. Have you noticed how much less cocky they've gotten since the last one? The mood in their threads is sullen at best.

It is pretty funny. I don't even dislike warhammer fantasy at all - but it's back now, and they're still not satisfied (because the lore started to suck in 8th edition and now they're realising that GW is still the same GW)

How hard are idoneth to assemble
>>
>>98545992
not very, except for the flight stands on the eels which are a major pain in the ass.

eidolons a bit of a jigsaw but he's sturdy once he's together. that said, if you fully assemble him before painting there are parts of the models cape you will never reach with a brush, so consider sub assemblies

eel riders are easier to paint if you leave the shields off until you paint the guy. you can also leave all the riders separate for easier painting

sharks crossbow mount can be a bit fiddly. its flight stand attaches much better than the eels though. same with the turtle, the flight stand on that one is fine too, it really is just the eels that are a problem.

consider leaving the turtle and sharks platforms and crew as separate pieces too, it will make painting much easier.

volturnos goes together easy enough, but if you glue on his cape before painting, getting the underside of the cape and the back of his armor and saddle painted will be tricky, but not impossible like the eidolon, but still easier to leave it as a sub assembly.

reavers and thralls are very easy, most of the foot heroes are easy too, though i have no experience with the brand new floating and surfing guys

overall armies like pretty middle of the road difficulty army for assembly and painting, but leaving it in sub assemblies on some things makes it a lot easier. the actual assembly i didnt have any problems with except the eels flight stands

That's stupid. It couldn't be more clear cut there's good & bad guys. There's only morally grey alliances on the side of order.
>>
>>98546692
I KEEP SAYING THAT, he insists that all of Warhammer is meant to be a jab at over the top politics or viewing things through moral lenses. I keep saying: MOTHER FUCKER it's Uther the lightbringer as a god making paladins to fight the guy who wants to blow up the universe. Yeah there's dickhead stormcast but that doesn't mean that Stormcast as a whole entity are played up as bad guys, GW explicitly will try to put things out to do that but then instantly go back to portraying them as perfect gold angels.

>>
>>98546697
Yeah that kind of mindset of satire only sorta exists in 40k. Not always nor necessarily well done either but that doesn't mean it spreads to AoS.
>>
>>98546703
That's the point I'm trying to get across, even on a meta level GW isn't playing up Stormcast as evil nor Sigmar as evil. Even when they try it's pretty half assed.

His arguments are that Sigmar is forcing souls into indentured service into his religious war and stormcast all are crazed murder machines invented by him for the sole purpose of killing his enemies.
>>
>>98546719
Sigmar's choosing to best people he can who have the courage to fight chaos & protect humanity to keep doing it. Saving more lives in the process. The flaw of reforging is just there so they're not overpowered by being respawnable. It doesn't make them crazy either. Just hyper focused because they have nothing else at a certain point.
The alternative is Nagash just takes their souls to enslave. Wow I can't tell which side has the moral high ground at all.
>>
>>98546728
>Just hyper focused because they have nothing else at a certain point.

Oh shit I never considered that's why they become super autists, it's literally just their heads are empty except for duty. That's actually really interesting.

My point is while the Stormcast can be portrayed as having some fucked up aspects I think even with those combined they're still pretty much explicitly good in this setting. Even with shit like "They killed a village for consorting with beastmen." He brought up the Sigmar lied thing, I STILL DON'T KNOW WHAT SIGMAR LIED ABOUT. Stormcasts have known how shit is gonna be since 1st edition, reforging shit isn't news.

>>
>>98546679
You'll keep getting into the arguments until you define with the motherfucker what you two are arguing. I'm going to bet these are your respective points:
>They're morally grey because they commit acts of oppression and discrimination too
>Nu uh, they're objectively the good guys because they are what opposes the objectively bad guys
>Nu uh, those "bad" guys are actually morally grey too because they also have rights and freedoms
>Nu uh, those rights and freedoms don't outweigh the evils and atrocities they commit and support
>Nu uh, you can't say that what the "good" guys do clears them of their own acts of oppression either
And so on and on because you don't like the label of "morally grey" applied to them and he doesn't like the label of "good" applied to them despite both being right since stormcasts absolutely do commit terrible things too, and they also inarguably are a force of good compared to what they oppose.
The only possible way you two could keep on disagreeing would be if you refuse to call them grey even with the addendum that they're still a lighter shade of grey compared to everything else, or that he refuses to accept that there's a different moral weight between someone who murders 10 people but saves a person once, and someone who saves 10 people, but murders a person once.
Or if he's somehow dumb enough to think that chaos lord corpserapist leader of the babyflayer daemonshosts somehow kills and saves just as many people as angel lord braveheart leader of the soulbright dawnbringers, but then why in the flying fuck are you talking with a drooling retard?
>>
>>98546737
Sigmar lied is just another example of GW not caring about AoS continuity nor lore consistency. Thankfully it never amounted to more than a marketing line and a miniseries.

I think the best way I can define things is I see the Stormcast as a good guy faction with morally grey bits to it, but as a whole are good guys. He sees them as I'm not even gonna say morally grey, fucker just sees them as bad guys, but I'm gonna be nice and assume he sees them as morally grey with some good aspects. I do not think GW has done anywhere near enough to push them as being evil, but his point of view on what I say is and I'll just copy this down:

>I’m sure the innocent cities who were murdered would appreciate people promoting the SCE propaganda showing them as good guys still. Even if it’s just one city.

>but then why in the flying fuck are you talking with a drooling retard?

This is the shmuck who runs the local community for my fucking city area. He's really really fucking annoying and I really really dislike having to interact with him because he's unfortunately just THERE at all times. (Everytime I bitch that Gitz are in a shit spot he has to butt in and say I'm over exaggerating)
>>
>>98546791
>runs the local community
then you shouldn't talk to the fat fuck, because he's basically a rotten moderator with his head up his ass, but if you really really really want to keep on entertaining the argument ask him if he thinks chaos murdered fewer innocents, and if this makes the stormcasts better than them and thus a lighter shade of grey.
If he disagrees even there, then he'll be at the very least aware of the fact he's being hypocritical.

Honestly probably the most reasonable solution here, it's really hard sometimes for my own autism not to flare up and go in to ask what the fuck the deal is. I don't even particularly like Stormcast that much, I do think they are a neat front facing faction as almost explicitly good guy paladins fighting for the realms over and over at the expense of themselves.

Yeah I actually think they did it decent job explaining why (nominally) night goblins might havr sun iconography. The part about them hating the sun because it chases away the bad moon, but also kind of respecting it because gits are naturally predisposed to like bullying is pretty good.
However, as you say, their actual iconography doesn't really show any of that it's all basic sun stuff, except maybe droggz' halo. It really doesn't feel like they're gloomspite who happen to specialize in chasing the sun, they feel like an entirely different sun-based army who also just happen to be goblins.
>>
>>98546719
>His arguments are that Sigmar is forcing souls into indentured service into his religious war and stormcast all are crazed murder machines invented by him for the sole purpose of killing his enemies
Stormcast are on the whole perfectly capable of hanging out with mortals. Most of them were only chosen after living a good part of their life, so some of them even have children and other deacendants they check up on and shit. The crazy thunder ghost stuff only happens after x amount of reforgings. Which, yeah, it's tragic, but also consider that most would've been just normally killed by sigmar knows what eldritch chaos abomination if they hadn't been chosen in the first place, it sounds like a small price to pay.
Oh also, GW even changed the most tragic part about them with Sigmar's Mercy. Like, if they were forever cursed to be a crazy lightning ghost then yeah I could somewhat understand the morally dubious angle (even if I disagree) but with 4th introducing sigmar's mercy you can always just permakill a stormie that's too far gone anyway. Which is really lame by the way, what's even the downside of getting stormcasted now? Previously there was some desperate times call for desperate measure stuff going on, but right now stormcasting feels like a strict positive. Oh no you might get dementia at some point, who cares, siggy will just send you to a farm upstate.

I don't know if anyone has talked about this yet, but gw is preparing another price hike at the end of september.
You can see the new prices on https://trade.games-workshop.com/resources/
(Click on the thing that says 'essentials pack', change it to 'guidance docs', then scroll down to 'order forms'. First result should be 'UK price adjustment 09 26' which is an excel file with all the new prices for all currently sold products in gbp.
I had a look and some products change more than others, relatively speaking, but it seems to be between 2%-4% at a quick glance.
Spearheads go from 91 gbp to 95 for example. I tried to see what that would be in gw conversion but I don't think they sell anything at exactly 95 gbp, and things are a bit inconsistent sometimes.
The "legion sicaran assault tank" for 30k is currently priced at 96 gbp, it's 118 in euros. However, spearheads are currently priced at 91 gbp, but 120 in euros. It's a bit of a mess.
I'd expect something like 125 euros / 155 usd to be the new spearhead price.

Personally actually glad they went this route as one of my biggest problems with a lot of AoS armies is how gimmicky they can feel. Whereas Gloomspite actually feel like an actual blend of Goblin/Troll culture.

However, that being said for the next big release/if we didn't go wolf riders:
>(Snarlpack Riders) Seeing how the Ogres aren't doing anything with Snotlings, could be fun to have a Snotling Slinger unit or something more wacky. Maybe Snotlings wearing Moonclan robes too large for them trying to seem bigger and tougher than they are. Or just copy paste piggyback riders and have them function like squires to Gobbo-Cav.
>Might be stepping on Kruelboyz toes but a Moonclan Mancatcher unit could be fun. If they charge into a unit, they make it easier/harder hitting for another unit to charge into said unit.
>Another Rockgut/Fellwater equivalent Troll unit centered around a different environment than Earth or Water. Lava trolls, Forrest Trolls, Ice Trolls, anything really just have fun with it.
>Moonclan Assassin hero killer.
>Massive Troll centerpiece, at least Trugg sized that's more pure beatstick.
