Greetings /wfg/Will be getting into TOW soon but I wanted to ask you guys about what's this Im hearing about the corebook already being outdated?
>>98548276I wish I knew, anon. I really do.
>>98548288There have been FAQs and erratas published separately that are now being incorporated into a new version of the core rulebook. If you're only getting into TOW now, this will not affect you as you won't have a copy of the old book. Said copies of said old book are still worth collecting, by the way. Someday, someone will want to play TOW as it was when it first released.
>>98548288No, they released an updated core rulebook that integrated the FAQ changes/tweaks. You can still use the older rulebook alongside the free faq's put up in the downloads section of the warhammer community website.
>>98547951Trying to algorithmically improve thread activity is beyond cringe anon holy shit.
Played a 1500 pitched battle against the nurgle chaos boys again. Snagrog grinned as he saw the Chaos boyz on the other side. Last scrap had seen his lads flee, himself dragged alongside, but now he had knocked the big uns heads round, ensuring they won't leg it without having a talk with his axe. "Dem nurgle gits are right smelly, ey boss?"Snagrog turned, glaring. A cheeky green from the big un made it recognise he had spoken out of turn, the boss was in no mood. Fortunately he turned back. He spotted the Chaos boss on the chariot on the other side. "Dat un is mine!"
>>98548288The one you can currently buy is fully up to date but there are plenty of the older rule books that would need the FaQ
>>98548355The battle had opened up bloodily. The trolls had killed a few of the knights, but broke and were run over while the wolf boyz and arrer boyz followed quickly among the piles of the dead.Bardok groaned. Typical of the regular greenskins to fail. The Chaos Knights lowered their lances, and charged. Despite it, the black orcs held, and tore into the knights, the great axes causing a bloody tally. Bardok attempted to end the melee and challenged their champion. A runic blade cut deep but with a mighty swing, the knight let out a groan as his great weapon tore it and its steed to the ground. Another challenge, this time met by an Aspiring Champion, tore into Bardok with his own blade, slaying the black orc. Yet, despite this, the orcs held, with only the champion and sorcerer left, who disengaged.
>>98548410Grimtoof and Morgrash (now delegated to a regular boy), roared as the knights had ran into them. Through incredible effort, they held, even when surrounded by the chaos dogs.Grimtoof slew the knight who pressed forward to meet him, but was cut down in the ensuing melee. Morgrash held the boyz as long as he could, but despite his best efforts, they fled, ran down by the knights after a horrowing set of melee. The rock lobber, having misfired earlier, blew itself up in its second attemot and Rumpbum the shaman was doing his best to beat back some chaos hounds.
>>98548355>>98548410>>98548427Stupid Rock Lobber goblins. Kino write up, keep it up anon.
>>98548427Having watched Grotfang get himself killed trying to end the Chaos boss himself, Snagrog bellowed with glee. The chariot careened into the big uns, tearing apart one too slow to move out of the way.Snagrog shoved forward, eager to meet the chaos boss. The challenge was met and the exalted champion, his two chosen charioteers and steed struck out at Snagrog. Warcries, howls and the screeching of metal was almost deafening. But Snagrog had equipped the 'ardest of armour his boyz could fit on him and the huge layers of plate deflected all of the blows.Reeling back at the seemingly unkillable Orc, Snagrog took a great swing of his axe, splintering the chaos plate and dealing two terrible wounds to the Chaos general. With this, the Chaos general broke and tried to flee. Catching him by the cloak, Snagrog flung him to the ground and plunged his axe into the chaos humies chest. With a terrible cry of pain, he was no more.A Chaos chariot crashed into he and his big uns but was fended off, only for another boss humie and his magic git running into them. Snagrog barged forward and met the aspiring champion. At full gallop, the lance split layers of metal as the dead ard armour buckled. Snagrog felt a prick in his arm, grunting. Tearing iut the lance, he swung once more, ripping a chunk of metal from the chaos champion, forcing it to flee. He saw his boyz having trouble with the sorcerer, and headbutted it to the ground."Boss, uh...i tink you should look at dis". Snagrog peered up. Dead orcs littered the field, with the mounted knights facing them. Snagrog had won his own battles but it was clear the field was lost.Snagrog bellowed, and with that, he and his big uns retired from the field.Minor Victory to Chaos but Snagrog and the big uns made up for their last match, taking all comers. Tad disappointed as if Snagrog had killed the aspiring champion, would have been a draw, but oh well, was a good scrap anyway!
I don’t want to be mean but the metal makes it look like it’s unfinished and is a wip. I don’t know how to keep that sheen and make it look like it’s not just raw dogged leadbelacher

>>98548005The metal Queek Headtaker (I hate skaven names, they're so lame) model is currently going for 60-70 GBP on troll trader, with the resin model going for 40 GBP. GW is Satan, but the M2O prices are sometimes cheaper than what the secondhand market has to offer. Not always, mind you, but sometimes.
>>98548755I'm glad the MTO is metal. I got a resin Queek a while ago when GW was still selling it and it was unusable.
>>98548755The prices are what you'd expect to pay for modern GW heroes.I agree with >>98548761 and am at least glad that GW is doing their own metal models in a new run of metal rather than subjecting us to the god-awful chunderfuck of a mess that was the "finecast" resin re-issues of thier old metal sculpts.
>>98548761The M2Os are one of the only good things to come out of TOW, in my opinion. The chaos ones have been nice, that's where I got my mounted chaos lord. Anyway, I don't care for skavenfags, but I was bored, so here's a list of the other named skaven characters and what they cost on Troll Trader (in GBP) so that (You) can compare them to the M2O prices:- Throt the Unclean (older, not found in M2O): 17- Throt the Unclean (newer, found in M2O): 40-60, one available for 32 but damaged.- Ikit Claw: 30- Warlord Spinetail: 120- Thanquol (without Boneripper): 35- Thanquol & Boneripper: 70- Lord Skrolk: 28- Packmaster Skweel Gnawtooth (I hate skaven names, jesus christ): 55- Death Master Snikch (the older one): 55- Death Master Snikch (the newer one found in the M2O): 70- Plague Lord Nurglitch: 50- Queek Headtaker (older): 45- Queek Headtaker (newer, found in M2O): 60-90, 90 is still sealed. As for the other models available through the M2O:- Warpgnaw Verminlord (was this FW?): 175- Verminlord (older, but is in the M2O): 40Tretch Craventail does not have a listing on Troll Trader. Don't say I never did anything nice for you, /wfg/.
>>98548113>reasonably priced£36 for a Verminlord's not too bad, but God damn, £23.50 for Skrolk? 'Reasonable' relative to 2020s eBay scalper prices, but otherwise rough
>>98548806Tretch is the rarest of the bunch because he was discontinued early whereas 7th edition Ikit for instance was repackaged for AoS for a while. The 4th edition Queek, Ikit, Verminlord, Deathmaster and Thanquol are relatively cheap on the second hand market because they had a MTO run a couple years ago.So yeah, even if you miss them the MTOs at least increase the supply on eBay and the likes.

A question for you anons. Do you prefer your armies to be homogeneous - that is to say of one common faction and same colours (picrel as example) - or do you prefer them mixed?example: a Cathayan army where some models are from Nan-Gau but others are from other places like Wei-jin or Fu-Chow.
>>98549295As long as the minis are painted well it doesn't really matter but there are stories of different companies and forces merging during campaigns so it is plausible. If you have a cool lore and fluff about the dudes being that way it is extra cool too!
>>98549295I'm currently painting a Bretonnia army with a mix of colour schemes so pretty soon I should have an idea of whether it looks good or shit.
>>98549289Thank you for the info and image, Anon. I have a sizable amount of Mantic Abyssal Dwarf miniatures that I was thinking of rebasing for TOW. Sadly, they lack the useful stuff like command bits, unless you print them.
>>98549348One brass rod or a rounded spruce edge , a piece of paper and some freehand is all you need to turn a regular dude into a standard bearer. And for the champion some special bits on the base. Skulls, weapons stuck in the ground etc.Now of course if you have a printer then a quick trip to telegram and you're well off to print an entire army for free.

The tigermen come across as being based on southlands cultures with Cantonese and Indochina vibes, the crowmen seem possibly tibetan since they live in the mountainous regions and have religious significance and there's also the monkey dudes who are probably like Xiang/western desert cultures.
>>98549559>Variations so slight they barely qualify as a tan on "ethnic groups" with such little distinction between them any two from one such group could be as different as any two from another, functionally making the models indistinguishable>This is the same as deliberately choosing to paint a demographically-accurate-to-modern-inner-London percentage of Empire models from what is supposed to be an ethnically homogenous nation with renaissance technology and travel limitations as giganigga Bix NoodsEthnic variation in China is like how the English used to describe the Welsh as "swarthy" and "dark" because they worked outside more and had less Danish rape DNA in them so tended towards dark hair colours. That's also how ethnic variation should be in the Empire, ie not actually there.

First test horrors are done. I'm not sure if I'm satisfied. On the one hand, fully pink ones would be more coherent but at the same time, more flat. Going the flesh way would be wrong because I'm running a chaos soup and they would be too similar to beastmen (in colour terms). Maybe bases will elevate them, since I already pulled the trigger, I will run with this scheme all the way down. Cleaning, gluing and GStuffing them again would be a pain.

I misplayed my Jade lancers into a Bastiladon thinking I would kill it with the MW2 buff from the priest of ulric and rubber lanced. I've been churning out scifi terrain with my new 3d printer and it's been great so far. What sort of stuff should I print for TOW? What is the ideal terrain? What looks the best and what has meaningful impact on gameplay?
I turned to TOW because AOS is just about fighting on circles and 40K is so watered down lately. Oh wow, I get 4 options for war gear, cool.
>>98548755Learn how to image search recasts, queen is like 6-10 usd usually
>>98551102dont listen to the people who say you need minimal terrain because it interferes with the game. fuck them. fuck boring open fields. print towns, villages, farms, forests, mysterious ruins, all sorts of shit, if people have to do a little extra wheeling or squeeze their formation then so be it, thats the price of having a good looking tableas for what has meaningful impact, pretty much everything does. structures have to be wheeled around and disrupt charge lanes, forests and brush are difficult to move through, hills provide charging and shooting advantages, water features provide difficult terrain, walls block line of sight, etc. its nice to add a lot of stuff like that on the table because it provides additional challenges and obstacles, as long as you deploy both sides of the table relatively fairly (barring narrative missions like sieges or ambushes that have lopsided terrain as part of the story)for terrain files, myminifactory is full of good shithttps://www.myminifactory.com/users/tiredworldstudio/collection/hexengarde-urban-fantasy-scenery
>>98551155I completely agree with you on all points. But unfortunately terrain doesn't effect everyone equally. As beastmen, every single piece makes my army stronger against you. So you do sometimes have to make concessions for fairness reasons.

What's the best way to make chorf hats? Are there any kits with tapered cylinder-like bits in them that might make a good starting point (I prefer to kitbash rather than print if possible)?I want to fix the Helsmiths of Hashut models to make them more like old world chorfs but the hats are a conundrum
so i know for aos there is a fan made cutsom warscroll writer tool that lets you write a warscroll in the design and formatting of the books. is there something similar for the old world that anyone knows of?if not i can always do it myself in photoshop, it would just be a real time saver if something like that existed

we all agree that the bret foot knights look horrible, right ? but how is it that some of the other bret models look so much better ? like the questing knight, the lord on pegasus, the champion with banner ? were they done by different sculptors ? because the design philosophy used for the foot knights is so distinct from that of the other models I mentioned (also for the bretonnian dragon slayer special character which has the same toy-like look as the foot knights)

Dryads, treekin, dragon lords, wild riders, and some small squads of waywatchers and glade guard are the most notable aspects of the army internally. Glade riders are also decent for what they are. If I didnt mention it chances are its role is either ursurped internally within the army or they just dont have a role. Characters for the part are fine to okay, with the exception of tree lords, dryads, and orion. Fuck Orion. Also I guess wild hunt can let you play a different way than wood spam, your hawks and hawk riders are good for harassing but dont expect them to do too much work. Many warriors have challenged Urglan for the honor of being Lord Kotvuq’s bell-bearer, and all have met a bone-splintering death beneath his morning star. Urglan’s origins saw him marked with Nurgle’s favor from the day he was born, as a constant sheen of rancid sweat drips from him at all times, and a pall of fever-heat afflicts all who stand in his presence. Whether across the Chaos wastes, into the lands of Sigmar’s weakling Empire or against the cowards that sulk behind the Great Bastion, the coming of Kotvuq’s Horde is always heralded by the mournful clanging of the great bell and Urglan’s sonorous chanting.Just realized after typing all of that that my pics of him didn’t transfer to my new phone. fml.

However, that's entirely besides the point, because a character who has purchased a magic weapon is not allowed to use mundane weapons. How are undead doing right now? Specifically, how are ghouls? A ghoul army led by a strigoi sounds neat
>>98552847the bret models that you regard as good-looking remind me of the blood bowl bretonnian team. In all likelihood, future remade lines for TOW whether beatsmen, bretonnians or tomb kings will look like their blood bowl versions
>>98555237you're wrong, some blood bowl teams aren't very reminiscent of TOW; the Undead team looks like the AoS SBGL models, the Khorne team has models similar to AoS Khorne Bloodbound and and even Khorngors and we know that god-aligned beastmen dob't exist in TOWalso the Blood Bowl Chaos Dwarfs looks nothing like the Helsmiths of Hashut
>>98555256actually, you're partially right : some of the BB teams looks like their AoS counterparts like Khorne, Nurgle and Undead teams and some other teams like Brets, High Elves and Wood Elves looks like they're from TOW/old whfb.Blood Bowl is probably the only game where the design philosophies and languages of both AoS and TOW are simultaneously present

I have a large group of friends that only want to do 40K because:I only like 40K I don’t have a lot of money for two games No one plays TOWI don’t like rank and flankVarious delusional I’m gonna win a competitive 40k major fantasiesI think 40k is watered down and lame in its current state, I like the complexity of TOW. How do I grow the game? There’s a small dedicated community but they’ve all basically given up on converting anyone.
>>98555587You should choose better company
>>98555580Always finecast.
>>98555587Dude, just stay away from the old world. Maybe look into playing older edition or homebrews, old world is a whole different game.
>>98555587Convince your friends to play 4th ed 40k as a stepping stoneNo only was the lore better, games weren't this "I just spam X unit" crap, and armies looked like armies because of the force org chart.
Considering a Double Anvil of Doom Royal Clans list. Any obvious reason not to do it? My idea would be two large Royal Clan Warrior blocks buffed by Runesmiths and a Thane and a Dwarf cart as well as two small units of IrondrakesThen use the anvils double movement and armour buff spells for more consistency to get the bricks where I need them to be
>>98553942What's the difference between Grand Cathay and the Jade Fleet?
picked up half of the bloodthirster sprue on ebay for cheap and was planning on making it into a Doombull. Anyone know the size comparatively? I'm not too fussed but he has to fit on a 50mm base probably fixed onto some terrain since the model is usually flying.
>>98555587>How do I grow the game?you have to get 2 armies to host demo games. they dont have to be huge, battle march is big enough. but a lot of people arent going to spend money if they have all these preconceived notions, and you'll have to get them to try it at no cost to them before they might get interested.also if its 40k players, they have no long standing love for fantasy enough to overcome old shitty sculpts, so when choosing demo armies get something that has either modern new old world sculpts like the cathay vs warriors of chaos battle marches, something that has aos equivalent refreshes like the new ogres or lizardmen, or some later edition fantasy sculpts that hold up well like dark elves. dont try to sell them on the game with doofy shitty sculpts no one wanted to buy in 2002 and surprise surprise still dont want to buy today.the money thing is somewhat assuaged once you actually get them interested because battalions are legitimately great deals, and old world boxes overall tend to be like 1/2 the cost of 40k for an equivalent amount of guys since they're spening like $60 for 5 aspect warriors vs $80 for 20 swordmasters in old worldyou really just need to overcome that initial hesitancy and get people to try the game once or twice, but unfortunately that means you have to shoulder some initial financial burden and demo game organization. you have to become a hobby champion for your scene. if your group doesnt have a discord, it may also help to organize one, just make sure to police it and keep it strictly on topic for warhammer, no IRL or politics or whatever, that will cause any discord to degenerate rapidly and repel normal players.
>>98553942I feel like ignoring this leechattaching himself to every warhammer property. Absolutely soulless, content with no substance.
>>98556342a lot actually. they have very different army composition rules. grand army gets access to all the new shit but cant take core lancers if it includes miao. fleet can take core lancers and miao in the same list, but cant take any of the new units (unless they changed that somewhere else but i didnt see it in the FAQ). fleet also has different mercenary allowances (more mercenaries but a more restricted selection) and gets bonuses to working with them, and gets some extra bonuses on its guns and balloons. in grand army you either have to leave miao at home and bring a gatemaster general, or you get saddled with a bunch of extra warriors or peasants to fill your core requirements since you cant do core lancers and miao in the same grand army list. jade fleet can also take 50% more artillery
>>98556342"Jade Fleet" is Miao Ying + Marienburg combined forces in the Wastlelande.

>>98556946and I thought AoS couldn't get any gayer...
>>98557319In a vacuum maybe, but in my experience the way most people get into warhammer is peer pressure. That's started coming from parasocialism now as well.
