I like this new core set, but what I read from the rules its really similar to 40k. Yeah I watched battle reports and I get it, less shooting, formations, less tarrain, more melee, but can anyone who has played both tell me how does it feel in play? Slower, faster, more spreadsheet checking, less, more/less stalematey( I feel two blocks smashing each other would feel like this)?

In tOW timeline, whites are disgusting pig people, basically a few steps above beastmen. If anything ,Empire and Bret women THROW themselves at Cathayan men to try to be their third wife or concubine to escape the shit covered streets of the average Empire or Bretonnian village, town, or city.

>>
>>98539551
It's nothing like 40k whatsoever. While you're still learning the game, you'll have to check the rulebook to figure out what all the universal special rules do, but after that you'll barely have to check the book at all besides for resolving edge cases. There are no stratagems, list-building is much more involved, you have lots of options for magic items (even if most of them are boring and lame, because they built the magic item system on the foundation of 8th's), and while the game is slower (it's rank and flank, no shit it's slower), games progress rapidly. One turn can win you the game, one turn can lose you the game.
>>
>>98539573
Sure chang, sure.
>>
>>98539631
NTA but Id also add that while it paradoxically rolls more dice than 40k, I feel its less random. The less terrain is because terrain makes a much bigger difference on the game. Also, you don't need to know every army inside and out to play against them. You may fight an uphill battle against some match ups, but you don't lose games by just showing up at the table. The game has more strategic depth.
>>
>>98539627
so why does cathay need to help them out repelling some norscans? cathay never needed the help from the empire.

>>
>>98539685
IDK when you last played 40k but you roll waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more dice in 40k and basically everything has rerolls in 40k.

Cathay only got a seat at the table because GW didn't want to launch into the GW and Magnus straight off so while the Empire is divided it isn't totally nonsensical for one pretender nation to need to bring in Cathay.
Cathay is literally the next edition away from becoming irrelevant to the Great War once Kislev becomes the new lovechild of GW.

Played two games of Battle March today, one at 600, one at 750 against some stinky stunties! We played scenario 2 (baggage train) and scenario 3 (village attack) from the Generals compendium.

Snagrog had suffered a rather horrowing experience, being decked by a stunty slayer and dumped in the river. He snarled, reminded by the humiliation. Yet, despite falling, he had survived. With what little he could muster, Snagrog gathered the boyz to continue the trek back to the skull smashaz camp. With them was a makeshift rock lobber and two drunk trolls carrying supplies. But the Dwarfs had scouts in the mountains and caught them unaware!

As the battle raged, the Dwarf Thane had sprung a trap with the slayers emerging behind the army in an ambush! Snagrog, eager for revenge, turned his unit around to face them.

Morgrash Ironjaw, who had joined Snagrog to face the stunties, was leading the other unit of boyz, much to Grimtoof's chargrin.

The slayers performed a monumental charge, barreling into Snagrog's big uns, the sound of screeching metal and groans of orcish throats echoing over the field.

A slayer burst forth frpm the crowd, Snagrog immediately recognising him and pushed forward to meet this wary challenger. But the slayer was too fast, striking Snagrog hard and fast. Despite his meteoric iron, the dwarf was skilled, and bit deep in between the gaping gaps, dropping the mighty orc!

The big uns, due to the catastrophic casualties and poor deployment (oops), FBIGO but bounced through Grimtoof's lads, the arrer boyz, right off the table!

Morgrash had watched Snagrog being cut down and was eager to prove himself! Calling a mighty Waaagh! he and Grimtoof rammed into the Longbeards! The Thane called a challenge and Morgrash met it. He levelled many blows at the Thane but none wounded, with the Thane tearing through Morgrash's defenses, splitting his shield and cutting through his armour. The boss fell, Grimtoof and his boyz broke and they were run down! Snagrog's attempt to bring the caravan through to camp had failed and the stunties were victorious!!!

The second game, 750, saw the Orcs defending their camp, the Thane pushing them back! Now he had dead 'ard armour, two trolls and big un boars. Snagrog roared, he'd get to kill at least one stunty this day, by Gork!

The Orcs advanced and soon, battle was joined, Grotfang's Big Un Boars charging full pelt into the slayers. After a horrific swirl of melee, the slayers great weapons wiped them out!

The Slayers held but lost a few. The trolls, having charged and devoured the Thunderers, careened into their side and began to rip them limb from limb! Unfortunately, Morgrash and the boyz cpupd not pursue as the trolls were in the way!

Snagrog's big uns positioned to face the Longbeards. However, they managed a long bomb charge, intending to destroy the core of the army in one blow!

Snagrog barged forward to meet the Thane, calling a challenge. The burly Dwarf stepped forward, and with a mighty swing of his axe, its blade split through the Dead Ard Armour's outer layer, splintered through the under layer, finally causing a grevious wound to Snagrog, cutting him down (3 wounds, one AP-3)!

The Big uns fell back at the loss of their leader, but orderly. The Longbeards crashed into Grimtoof's lads. Calling a challenge, Grimtoof met it, only to be split in two by the Thane! The Orcs broke, then were run down with Morgrash scattering to the hills!

A final combined charge from the big uns, arrer boyz and wolves attempted to break the Dwarfs last block but were repelled! The big uns fell back and the arrers and wolves broke!

In the end, the dwarfs stood victorious, ramsacking the orc camp!

What a debut for Morgrash and poor Snagrog's armour didn't work with either kit. But always a chance to come back for anuvver go!

May bring Bardok and his blorcs next and will pump Snagrog to Warboss!

In the end, the Lomgbeards and Thane remained,

As a final bout, we had Snagrog and Morgrash face off, my opponent using Morgrash, both with the same equipment from the previous battle. Both Big Bosses, Morgrash with heavy armour and charmed shield, Snagrog a great axe and dead 'ard armour.

Morgrash had seen Snagrog fall twice and was fairly certain of his chances to usurp leadership. But he would learn Snagrog was no push over.

Despite a torrent of terrible blows, Snagrig's armour held, causing Morgrash to wail in fury. Snagrog lifted his axe, the first time Morgrash's shield took the hit, the second cracked his armour, causing the Orc to groan in pain.

A final flurry but Snagrog still stood. Once more, another swing and Morgrash was cut down. Snagrog was still da boss!

So in the end, the only thing Snagrog killed today was Morgrash, but a kill is a kill!

Despite the two losses, I had a blast but I am definitely going to adjust things slightly. Its clear Grotfang's boars and the wolves aint pulling their weight, so it might be time to bring in some extra umph...

Rollback to karl franz's coronation or archaon's coronation and make both the events of the end times and the events of the storm of chaos, parts of visions of potential futures that a few chosen characters received and now take into account when taking decisions and planning things

There really isn't a need for anything in the End Times to happen. If we wanted to keep the events of Vermintide and some of the cooler things to happen during the End Times, GW could always just axe the dumber shit that happened at the time, keep the cool parts, and then say that Archaon was defeated and pushed back north. That way the obvious can still happen, but the world lives on for at least several centuries more.

The Storm of Chaos was stupid, anon. Don't accept a slightly less shit narrative.
>>
>>98540444
any end time narrative that doesn't end with the end of the world is a cop out, so either nothing happened yet, or everything has to happen, including the end of the world
the nothing happening yet is clearly the best option, but unless you make it clear that the future can and will diverge from the end times books, people will just keep assuming those are the inevitable future

my solution is the best of all worlds: nothing happened yet, it's explicit that things will be different because we have characters with knowledge of those events that will work to change them directly, and as cherry on top to make the suits happy all the end times and storm or chaos books and novels have a form of relevancy as info the characters have or just as potential plot hooks

This Battle March thing, where you assemble armies of 400-600 points, seems fine for newcomers to experiencie the game.
And yet I feel TOW would benefit even more if it had a (officially supported) skirmish game. 40k had Kill Team, AoS has WarCry and stole Warhammer Quest; so why not release a Mordheim 2.0 (except not in Mordheim, and not called that)?
>>
>>98539703
Yeah but a lot of people are retarded.
>>
>>98540642
You do not want GW to start fucking with Mordheim. Stop saying these things. Leave Mordheim alone.
Let GW re-release Warhammer Skirmish. That'll be fine, maybe. If you actually like Mordheim, you wouldn't want GW getting its grubby corporate mitts on it.
>>
>>98540642
>Why not release a worse version of the best game GW ever made. But don't set it in the same place. Or call it the same name.

>>
>>98540670

>it's their property to use
Yeah, and WHFB was their property to mismanage and kill, too. What, did you stop playing WHFB just because GW stopped supporting it? Do you even play Mordheim right now?
In many ways, WHFB is in a worse state now than it was while it was "dead".
>>
>>98540670
>Oh yes I do. It's their property to use it, and surely there are still old folks on the team that would care for the skirmish game.
It is their property, but I doubt anyone who made Mordheim good is still on staff in a position writing rules for the potential new version. They would pull a Nu-Necromunda with it, expand and change and tweak and price hike with new models and less content in books.

am I wrong or GW changed something with the geography of the north pole of the warhammer world ?
the way the Chaos Wastes and the Shardlands have been described it almost feels like it's a part of the Realm of Chaos as much as the individual domains of the gods and not just a part of the mortal world warped by chaos energies
what I'm trying to say is that it's like GW is making the realm of chaos completely contained in the northern pole of the warhammer world (though still with its own time and laws) rather than a separate place
for example the Forge of Souls is clearly situated on the map now
>>
Why don't the TWW models use heroic proportions?
Does CA not know that bigger hands and heads makes the models more readable from a distance?
Are they stupid or did GW not tell them?
>>
>>98540729
Hopefully they start releasing renegade packs for non legacy armies that need fixing. Would love to see fans fix whatever GW can't be bothered to do right.
>>
>>98540832
I have a feeling GW would get grouchy if they started updating the "supported" factions. Those rules have to be imbalanced to push models.

I never saw any material to prove this theory, but I remember long ago one anon saying that the Grudge System was invented by Valaya in the hopes that it would help the dwarfs make amends and forgive transgressions, since they are kinda autistic it would codify a way to make peace, but dwarfs are more interested in recording grudges than resolving them
again, this is what some anon said, I have no evidence

As you could see, the priest was now alone after every member of his guard died and the two reminding crypt horrors will end up devouring him.

Surprise! The vile Ghoul King apparently bribed 10 Nordland men to stab their kin in the back and so the 10 men come out of nowhere to help the undead.

Meanwhile the state troops couldn't take anymore and fled.
The Chapter Master seeing his army slain and being eaten issues a challenge to the undead king. For Ulfric, for the Empire, he will free the world from this abomination or die trying.

Unfortunately for him the Strigoi cast his dark battle magic and the body of the Chapter Master is torn into pieces by a flurry a powerful slashes that cut through steel (and faith) with no efforts.

The handgunners will NOT find salvation in their last salvo. They will be cut, pierced, chewed and trampled by the crypt horrors.

Tonight was a red night, a bloody night and the Ghoul King is a feasting.

Grudgelore goes into talking about how the grudge system is as much a way to learn from the past and do better overall as it is a way to punish, shame and cause eternal enmity. Pretty fascinating read, honestly. I would upload the nice PDF I have of it if we still could do so on 4chan.

Want to get into TOW just haven't pulled the trigger just yet
Know full well I can reel in family members and some friends just got to demo the game out to them.
Was thinking of trying out paper cutout armies but will probably lose a few of them because there will be less wow factor and don't have a tremendous amount of time to get multiple armies built and semi painting in short notice.l, never mind the dosh required.
Has anyone tried using 10mm minis to play TOW and not changed a thing about ranges and base sizes? Would that even be a good idea, yay or nay? I do have access to a 3d printer via 1 friend that is interested in joining we just need to convince everyone else
>>
>>98541492
smaller bases would work just fine but if you have access to a 3D printer it really only takes a single $20 1L resin bottle and a few STLs downloaded on telegram to print at least 3 armies for the Battle March format (450-500 pts)

Cathayans are slaves to non-human rulers.
Cathayans are incapable of creating their own civilisation. Everywhere they go, they have to parasitise the society of their superiors: dragons, half-dragons, reiklanders, etc

Cathayans didn't invent paper.
Cathayans didn't invent gunpowder.
Cathayans didn't invent writing.
Cathayans didn't invent agriculture.

Forgot to include that crucial but if info which we will be starting out with Battle March. Do you recommend we mess with the scale of things such as measurements?
I was thinking of just slapping a half dozens of 10mm dudes on a 25mm square and call it done. This of course a small project I can try and get finished sooner wrather than later and to have people actually play and roll some dice.

>>
>>98541693
Just 6 models? I don't think you can play with that.
I don't think you have to change anything, the game works fine regular stats and measurements even if you lower the base size. You don't need to rebase. The only thing that could be a problem would be templates but it's unlikely that you'll be playing artillery or cast vortex spells. And even then most of the time it'll be just fine.

Classic Kislev has very little west Slavs ingridients. For Poles and probably Czechs and Slovaks too it screams RUSSIA with ukrainian component in form of Ungols. Even winged lancers look more like Mongols with wings strapped on their backs instead of winged hussars (their armor etc.). If you read Something Rotten in Kislev (old rpg adventure) you can see 100% Russian daemonology and mythology, not a single thing that's familiar to Polish people. Even the name of city "Praag" sounds like it would be spelled by a Russian, not Czech. Not to mention American stereotype of Russians riding bears.

GW would have to change most of it's Kislev lore to make it more like Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth than to say tzarina's other title is "KrĂłlowa Lodu" (which is a Polish name for The Snow Queen from Andersen's story - not some ancient title of Polish royality).
>>
>>98542024
They're for people that want to play norscan dwarfs, they're mostly isolated so they don't have the blackpowder tech but have more runic stuff that was lost to the other dwarfs. They also use longboats which could be a cool runic lamdship model.
>>
>>98542123
All GW would really need to do is change some names and clothing in new art for most people to go "western slav" enough.

War Wagons are Hussite (therefore distinctly Czech) thing, but that's about it for "relatable" references.
>>
>>98542146
I know but for younger audience (since Frozen movie), Andersen's Snow Queen is translated as "KrĂłlowa Lodu" instead of "KrĂłlowa Ĺšniegu" (so you don't confuse her with KrĂłlewna ĹšnieĹĽka).
>>
>>98542180
I very much doubt GW knows or cares about that. Considering ice queen fits better. Your argument is not falsifiable anyways because it makes it impossible for them to want to have translated „ Ice Queen „ or „ Queen of Ice „

I'm doing 15mm on an upcoming project(Dwarfs) just using regular TOW bases and unit sizes with 4-6 minis on each base, it works great an is a fun way to make smaller armies look more impressive. 10mm should work equally well for the same reason, I just chose 15mm because I also do Horus Heresy in 15mm(though with that I do tweak the rules) so I can share generic terrain across both.
>>
>>98541837
I like that you bothered to source a whole kneeling front rank anon, great stuff.
>>
>>98542157

>>
>>98542242
Adding fantasy stuff on non-heroes in the Empire was a mistake. Demigryph knights being the biggest mistake.
>>
>>98540783
You are absolutely right, they did change the northern pole. First and foremost they made it look like Total Warhammer 3's interpretation, instead of being a vague and ominous area, like the previous editions.
The Forge of Souls is supposed to be located within a hidden area of the Realm of Chaos/Warp/Aether, according to Age of Sigmar, 40k and previously even Fantasy. Even TW3 maintained this lore aspect, so it's very odd how - out of all landmarks from the Chaos Realm - the Forge was given an actual location within the world. Although tbf TOW's world map and descriptions are riddled with inaccuracies (see Karak Dum) so it's honestly unsurprising that they'd do yet another screwup.

Where the hell am I supposed to fit a shaman on the Tuskgor chariot? The rules have both the bestigor and Ungor on there as well so I can't really get rid of them if we're going by WYSIWYG, but there's also seemingly no room on the cariot for a hero that's supposed to be able to go on there.

Don't care either way but does anyone think it is odd that the already vague russian references, which boil down to Tzar/Tzarina and not much else, are the things they censor and not the reference to cossacks? Cossacks are easily THE most problematic group for leftists to handle, they were racist, anti-semitic, supported the nazis, genocided many Siberian cultures on behalf of the Tsars and even today Putin actively encourages cossack culture. They ended up being pretty much despised by all eastern europeans.

A single box of empire state troops. While it would be better value to get a battle march box, I don't think they're out yet and that might be too many models for a totally new player to assemble and paint all at once. One box of models, some brushes and paints, a can of primer, glue, a hobby knife, a set of files, and whatever else the owner of the LGS recommends for a new hobbyist (take this with a grain of salt, though), and you'll be good to go.
Happy birthday, anon.

Yeah I thought chosen had a role? And Warriors have furious charge now too so they may not be amazing but they probably aren't shit right?
>>
>>98543746
Who gave you that impression, anon? Because I've used chosen warriors extensively and I can tell you they're utterly worthless. Regular warriors suck, they're only good as a bunker for a tzeentch sorcerer, but chosen warriors are horrendously expensive and are still infantry, so they don't do anything in the first place.
I used to run 21-man chosen deathstars. They accomplished nothing and would just get shot off the board even if I stuck a sorcerer lord and a chaos lord in there and gave them all the conveyance and enchantment spells they could be given. They fundamentally don't work because elite infantry fundamentally doesn't work in TOW. Now chosen are even worse because one of the only things that made them worth considering (the ward save) is now available in core.
>>
>>98543748
Meh, Dynasty Warriors left a bad taste in my mouth when they entered the age of DLC but not a bad idea to reference.

>>98543676
Dang. Surprised there isn't more but guess I'm too use to 40k and AoS showing different paints in army examples. Thanks for showing though.
>>
>>98543753
What role? What role could they possibly fill in an army that has an extremely competitive selection of special choices? What role could they fill in an edition that heavily punishes taking non-core and/or non-horde infantry? Chosen knights, sure. They're okay. Not good, but they can annihilate enemy units on the charge while also being obscenely durable. But chosen warriors? Why would you tie up hundreds of points out of your special allocation into a block of M4 infantry that your opponent can just avoid? That's just not how TOW or WHFB is played. The current meta is taking three chimeras, by the way. You're not going to be taking any chosen, chariots, whatever, at all.
The only role chosen warriors fill is being a trap option for new players who don't understand how the game works yet. Also, I'll retract what I said about regular chaos warriors. They serve 2 purposes: Being a bunker for a tzeentch sorcerer and abusing the taskmaster's scourge and battle hunger to cheese out charges against other infantry units. How often will you be seeing other infantry units worth charging on the table? Basically never.
>>
>>98542442
Honestly, I believe it. GW would absolutely be retarded enough to revisit TK and leave their fucking decrepit 90's era bobbleheaded core infantry completely untouched, while also releasing several new units that necessarily have skeletons on them, only highlighting the horrible deficiencies of the existing minis.
>>
>>98543799
It's something TOW is pretty bad at in general like MESBG books have entire pages dedicated to different colour schemes, what Citadel paints to use to get them. I'm pretty sure HH also does this, and these are games with books that are the same length as the AJs

What's the consensus in this general, do you accept TOW as canon?
To me the World map was the final straw, this is not WFB, it's AoS design language 100%
the Chaos Wastes are not the Realm of Chaos, they are heavily corrupted, even time and space, but the Chaos Wastes are still part of the Material World and not the Realm of Chaos
that entire fractured bullshit screems AoS high fantasy
I know this is kinda small, but when I read the Malus books, I kinda imagined the Chaos Wastes like this warped realm where you can pretty much fit anything, like a chaos version of the border princes
>>
>>98543898
Me and everyone else at my LGS don't give a shit and even the manager has given up caring about the time period TOW takes place in. It's a much different vibe from the 40k and AoS players including being very concerned about lore and that wizzywig thing.
>>
>>98543898
I don’t care for the maps that gw have provided 99% of the time so I don’t care. Anyways the mallus books are about as cannon as the rogue trader books are to 40k.
>>
>>98539517

None of them. That man is clearly someone familiar with sex and is not a troon.
>>
>>98543898

Fag, it's always been lore that the closer you get to the poles the more the real world/realm of chaos division breaks down and becomes fluid. The Chaos Wastes are all the large tracts of stable material land on the way up to the polar vortexes. That map shows exactly that.
>>
>>98543875
No, your own experience with the army is just as valid. I have a bad habit of writing very negative posts that people misinterpret. As a result of playing for several years in a giga competitive environment, I've had a lot of the positivity regarding my army hammered out of me. As it turns out, about a dozen of the best players in Canada just so happened to play at my LGS. Several dozen ass whuppings followed, naturally, and my refusal to add a chaos dragon (or 2 gigantic chaos spawn, 30 chaos marauders, 15 marauder horsemen, you get the idea.) to my collection meant I had to optimize what I could in order to have any amount of fun with the game.
To be explicitly clear, I think chosen warriors are bad because the game fucks them over at every turn. They're killy, sure, but they won't survive long enough to get to kill anything. They're durable, but they're so expensive that losing even a handful of them to shooting (in an edition where shooting writ large is obscenely powerful) tends to make the unit useless. They're very customizable, but you aren't given the options to make them good. The role of infantry in TOW is to be cheap, avoid combat, and hold objectives. Using chosen warriors to do that is foolish.
Knowing how to make the most of bad units does not mean I'm a meta slave, by the way. I resent that accusation. My army has a chaos chariot that's killed only around 5 models over a dozen battles and around fourty chaos warriors. If I were a meta slave who only used "received netlisty 'wisdom'", my list would consist of nothing besides lords/heroes on dragons, chaos marauders and marauder horsemen, chimeras, and gigantic chaos spawn. Thank God I'm not one of those people.
>>
>>98543898
Absolutely. I love TOW lore and totally accept it as an heir to glorious WFB.

I never understood this persepctive, surely the people who currently play mordheim will just continue to play the version they prefer. The only way a new version can be harmful is if it took players away from the old version, but if all the current players prefer the old version, why would they move to the new version? And it's not like mordheim sees much of an influx of new players so it isn't an issue of preventing new blood from playing the older system.

Genuinely why would you want to play 6th over TOW? The only thing I think that is better is the magic phase, and even then that depends on if you like the minigame or not. The current magic system doesn't grind the game to a halt like the old complex system did.
The binary break/hold of 6th edition is so much worse than the FBIGO back and forth press that simulates a battle better and is less swingy. That alone makes TOW superior to 6th imo but I am open to hearing arguments.

The presence of the magic phase, the presence of actual spell lores, better (as in more interesting) army rules (the marks of chaos in TOW are an insult, the fact that half the armies in the game are unsupported is an even graver insult), incomparably superior (as in more interesting) magic items, and at the very least the pretense of more options. 6th edition has problems (cavhammer, monsters being bad, disgustingly unbalanced options in otherwise fine army books, etc.), but I've played it and I like it better than TOW. The loss of the magic phase was catastrophic for my enjoyment of the game. I don't care if FBIGO makes combats less swingy when one quarter of the game was torn out and replaced with a laughably inadequate substitute. I find it difficult to describe how much I hate how magic works in TOW. It's not fun. It's not magical. It's boring. If FBIGO is your only reason for preferring TOW, house-rule it into 6th. That'd be a fuck of a lot easier than completely changing TOW's pathetic excuse for a magic system.
Regarding the army rules in particular, TOW's army books (or rather, army pamphlets) are reason enough to hate the edition. They suck, anon. Arcane Journals were a mistake. They're either utterly useless and change nothing or they break the game.
Also, casting spells absolutely grinds the game to a halt in TOW. It does so several times over the course of every turn, in fact, and more so than in any other edition because there's no reason not to try to cast every spell your wizards can possibly cast every single turn. In 6th, at least you had power and dispel dice, as well as a much harsher miscast table, as limiters to how long the magic phase could last.
Finally, if people didn't like the magic "minigame", too bad. The sins of 8th did not justify removing the magic phase. Shooting is a minigame, does that mean it should be removed from the game? Combat is a minigame too, should we remove combat from the game?
6th was better.

What units do you put your runesmith in? I feel like the more elite units don't need more AP than they usually have, but a large block of warriors could use the bump. On the other hand it feels like a waste of his melee potential but 10-12 quarrelers or ranges sitting in the backfield and sniping with armor bane 4 sounds like it could do some damage.

It's weird coming over from an older edition and seeing a runesmith do more than be a weaker thane that helps you dispell stuff.

>>98544384
Also, as it wouldn't fit in my first post: 6th has better rules for CR, a better S/T table (separating AP from S was retarded and has contributed to special rule bloat) and more interesting army building rules (while encouraging MSU can be seen as a flaw, it's not like TOW hasn't already degenerated into MSUfest despite the percentage-based requirements). Furthermore, 6th hasn't been ruined with idiotic FAQs and erratas and arcane journals that can, seemingly on a whim, make fun units worthless (khorne chaos marauders with flails used to be really cool, now they don't exist) or shit up the game by adding fuck-busted armies or by magically making seemingly simple rules (regeneration) cause stupid arguments. 6th didn't have monstrously conjoined rider and monster profiles either, which I will remind you is the exact reason why dragons and monsters are super strong when someone is riding them and utterly unusable when they're on their own.
And you know what? 6th had better USRs too. It had better spell lores, even disregarding the system used to cast said spells, it had better magic items, and I even kinda like 6th's retarded double movement don't measure charges! They make people play like pussies in tournaments, but I like them! 6th even had siege rules right in the core rulebook! 6th has better expansions, too!
6th is just better! It's a complete experience. Your army won't get invalidated by FAQs/erratas, there's been over 20 years of fan comp, the books themselves are nicer to read and collect, it's just better.

AOS used wfb figures for years and some factions are still doing it, while some other based their entire styles around one wfb unit. Some other factions are completly different and it shows almost immediatly. I don't think people are getting upset if you use the new stone trolls, saurus warriors, black knights or stormvermins, but as the other anon said, kharadrons, idoneth, stormcasts or the new chaos dwarfs are just too alien to fit the setting, even as proxy

As someone that plays both:

>I like old army books and think they're better balanced but I like how in the new ones, most characters can do more than just one thing with their new special rules
>USRs are mostly on par, I like stuff like Drilled and that flame attacks are no longer a coin toss between being really useful against certain armies while making an unit useless against some fire resistant units
I also prefer just pointing to a spot on the table rather than "guessing" a range - unless you're new you can pretty much estimate the range anyway but people will slow down games to rethink it like five times.

TOW CR is not fine. People are using CR to insta-win combat against monsters/monster riders by sacrificing their unit champion.
>inb4 that only happens at tournaments
If we're talking about casual games, then discussing the rules like this really doesn't matter.
The only thing separating AP from S did was make low S units that can use great weapons better while also forcing high S units to either take great weapons or rely on special rules to get any amount of AP. That's another thing TOW fucked up, weapon options!
The leadership rules characters can use range from either being okay (rallying cry) or game-breakingly annoying and uninteractive (undead healing). Arguably a net negative. Also, 6th had those too. Also also, there were more interesting ways to customize characters (thanks to the better and more interesting magic items) in 6th. See marks, magic items, and army rules in general.
As for the USRs, drilled is okay. Flaming attacks don't work on magical regeneration now, which is really stupid. They totally fucked frenzy for no reason, fly is arguably more balanced (but less interesting) than it was in 6th, One can also make the argument that having so many special rules be universal, rather than unique to the armies that actually use them, makes the game more bland. That argument is retarded for a number of reasons, but it also has some merit.
Oh yeah, TOW also screwed over template attacks. And increased the base sizes! Which made templates even worse!
Boo TOW! Boo! Anyway, I don't think this discussion will really go anywhere (perhaps unsurprisingly, /wfg/ doesn't like discussing the rules), so I'll stop writing all these paragraphs. 6th is good, everyone ITT should try it. Try 7th too! And 8th! And 3rd and 4th and 5th! Give 1st and 2nd a try too. Play every edition, really. Form your own opinions!
>>
>>98544331
But doesn't that mean the only reason they played 6th is because it was also the path of least resistance?
>>
>>98544338

Okay so if there are people in the area to support a community of people who specifically want to play 6th even though there's multiple options, why would those people feel the need to play TOW? Are those people now refusing to play 6th? Or are the simply choosing not to?
>>
>>98544833
CR is fine, I like that one bad roll usually doesn't result in a unit of like 20 guys getting swept by four horsemen because now units can fall back and fight again, so there's still consequences (getting shifted off an objective and giving the enemy another round of charge bonuses).
>>
>>98544857
Fuck off.
>>
>>98544862
People are refusing to play 6th, yes, because TOW is the currently supported edition. They want to play in tournaments and tournaments are played using TOW.
It's fucked, anon. I've only managed to get one game of 6th in over the last 2 years, whereas I got well over 30 games of TOW in. Not for lack of trying, by the way.

>The only thing separating AP from S did was make low S units that can use great weapons better while also forcing high S units to either take great weapons or rely on special rules to get any amount of AP. That's another thing TOW fucked up, weapon options!
It's the other way around really:
>low S units needed to high S weapons to get any amount of AP and easier wounding
>high S units didn't need to take anything since they not only wounded enemies easily but also already had like -2 or -3 AP base, so you only saw them with two weapons or hand weapon and shield
Tying AP to weapons helps unit variety.
>>

High S units are also more expensive, anon. Now that even elite units with high S need to take great weapons and halberds to get any amount of AP, they're significantly less desirable. Cheap units with low S had a low enough points cost that you could justify giving them a specific upgrade to both their strength and their AP. Either way, setting aside special rules that provide AP to hand weapons, you're going to be seeing a lot of great weapons in TOW and very few halberds. I would argue that there's less unit variety now than there was then.

Halberds are a lot less desirable because the fight in two ranks when charged means most of the time your unit wants the other defensive options available to them. If halberds gave their bonus when charging and charged but then went down to -1 it would be worth it again. Halberds are still the best overall common weapon, they just aren't the best specialized common weapon.

when I read the description of the Shardlands and the nu Chaos Wastes, it reminded me strongly of the description of the Formless Wastes in 40k which are an unaligned part of the Warp not controlled by any Chaos god
https://warhammer40k.fandom.com/wiki/Formless_Wastes
this is where the Forge of Souls is canonically located in 40k
and in aos as well
also this bit
> castles crafted from bone and fortresses of ichor
this sounds a lot like that place which we know is still canon in TOW
https://warhammerfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/Marcher_Fortress
>Its walls are crafted from blackened stone, veined with pulsing, oozing colours, and mortared with the crushed bones and blood of spent revellers and those that fell in battle against Slaanesh's minions
>Corpses, both of mortals slain in battle and Daemons that fell into disfavour in the eyes of the Master are ground into a bloody mortar beneath the titanic grindstone of the windmill. This mortar is used to strengthen the walls of the Fortress above, empowering it with the strength of mortality and the authority of despair.

overall it really feels like GW is trying to push that the Chaos Wastes at the north pole of the Warhammer World are the same as the Formless Wastes of 40k/AoS, the unaligned part of the Warp as if the an entire piece of the Warp was physically located on the physical warhammer world

It's literally as easy as removing any AOS-specific elements and that's that. Giants exist in WHFB. Change the shield that's on that one's gut and you'll be fine.

Terrain gets in the way and if you don't wheel to face the enemy you just get flanks and your wall of doom is useless because you only get 4 models in base contact.

GW doesn't decide what's canon. None of the wagies working at GW had any hand in creating Warhammer. Their authority ends at the ability to sell models.

>>98544145
This already happened to Necromunda, Epic and especially Bloodbowl. They all had really nice community maintained rules and a lot of players, then, as soon as GW released a new version, the community got split and rules efforts became abandoned, often in fear of GW taking the projects down.
The worst thing for any dead game is getting brought back by a company that only cares about marketing.
A new Mordheim won't have Blanche doing art direction, it won't have the darker, more absurd tone of the original either. Some of the rules could become less clunky, but considering what happened to Necromunda and HH 3e, there's a very real risk of both getting too bloated and too streamlined.
Dead as is it now, Mordheim is the best it'll ever be.

>>98544145
You literally couldn't be more wrong.
>>
>>98544145
>I never understood this persepctive, surely the people who currently play mordheim will just continue to play the version they prefer.
It's because the people who make that their talking point don't actually currently play mordheim, at best they wish they did and think that an updated version would reduce their chances of playing the old version, but the sadder truth is that their chances stay the exact same: 0.

I like them for the Tolkien boomer fantasy
They can move pretty fast if you have a Dwarf Cart and Anvil and marching column.
Rangers/Fireball Thane + Runesmith buff are pretty good at shooting support to discourage cavalry and such from trying for flanks.
Also Royal Clan Warriors are relatively inexpensive and pretty difficult to kill.

Crossbow. The extra 6 inches and AB 2 (plus 2 with runesmith) is nearly always better than AP1 and AB1. Especially since a lot of the time you will be trying to spike 6s on a T6+ monster anyway

I'm dead fucking on actually, as evidenced by the fact that you continue to equate "cool and fun" with "must be the bestestestest liek EVAR".

People like you asserted taking the Mark of Nurgle was "pointless" in 6th WHFB. That Chaos Warriors were generally pointless and everyone should just Marauderspam. You thought taking full size Tactical Squads was "wasting points". That Dreadnoughts were worthless. You're the wargaming embodiment of the "knows cost of everything but the value of nothing" adage. I took the Marks that corresponded to my armies' themes, and I won. I never left home without at least two full size tactical squads or multiple infantry platoons of basic guardsmen, and I won. I built every single army I've ever made starting from either the fluff, or from a fun modelling idea I then made conform to the fluff, and for four straight editions of WHFB and five of 40K my W:L ratio was easily 4:1 using all-comers lists in a local meta that was often sweaty as fuck, because I played and understood the game, not Netlisthammer Simulator 51,000.

Other than the egregious power of characters in 4th/5th and the handful of ridiculously unbalanced army books released in 7th that completely broke the game, there has never been a point in Warhammer where a unit or an army was so bad it wasn't worth taking if it fit your theme, or where it was so ineffectual it might as well not have been there at all. But you don't want "fits my army's theme and performs a role in my battleplan", you want "ZOMGZ LEET PWNZORZ BESTEST UNIT EVAR" or you think it's worthless trash.

That's a problem with you, not Chosen.
>>

You're like those old-Japanese-soldier-hiding-inna-woods-still-fighting-WW2-tier fags who were still pretending FDM machines were stuck in the cardboard-frame reprap quality tier all the way up until the end of the Ender 3 era. Resin printing has moved on, grandad.
>>
>>98544972
Yes, you fuckwitted troon, that's the argument that was being made as to why GW releasing an updated ruleset is a bad thing - most gamers are cattle, so if you like playing the thing you like and GW "update" it into something you don't, you will now struggle to keep playing the thing you like because many of the other people who *had* been content to play it with you will gleefully go back to slurping James' cock.

I hope you're just shitposting anon, the thought someone could sincerely be this dumb makes me weep for the future of humanity.

They're all fun and cool models, they look good together, and one of the biggest strengths of orcs and goblins is the variety of units and tactics. Having a bit of everything is nice. Cool and fun is not "bestest ever". I've never said that. Cool and fun means cool and fun, nothing more, and it's sad that you're continuing to misunderstand my position. I have, repeatedly, defended the mark of Nurgle in 6th. It's incredibly flavourful, having your units play a lot more like undead than living creatures (not really, but Fear is a fun rule) is a good time. The lore of Nurgle is also really cool and so are the magic items. I've used chaos warriors in 6th I still use them in TOW, as a matter of fact, and I'd argue they're worse in TOW than they are in 6th. I think chosen warriors suck because I've used them. Extensively. I tried every way to make them fun and it simply didn't work.

What, in your opinion, makes chosen warriors fun and cool in TOW? That's a big block of chosen warriors there in the middle of picrel. by the way. I thought they were fun and cool until they were actually in battles. A 500 point mass of champions blessed by the chaos gods with 2A, that had to be sick. But it wasn't. Tell me, what's a big block of chosen warriors to do against a dragon or 200 skeleton archers (a real list I played against in this very tournament and I have pictures as proof)? Enlighten me. What makes them cool in TOW?

Also, this entire conversation started because someone said that chosen were good. They demonstrably aren't and nobody has been able to prove otherwise, so now the discussion has devolved to "fits the theme". Of course they can fit a theme. That's a completely different conversation. Anyway, it doesn't really matter. You know nothing about me as a player and I know nothing about you beyond the fact that you claim to play a certain way. You can blather on about how things should be, but you haven't presented a single reason for why chosen warriors are fun. Grats on tracking your WL ratio, I can't be bothered to do that.
>>
>>98547328

why does it seem like goblin stuff is way more expensive than others?

based on prices, it feels like a "premium" army for some reason. especially used and older models if you don't want to spend so much to buy everything new in old world. unpainted goblins from pre old world times are often super expensive compared to other factions like dwarves it seems.

i'm a noob wanting to build my first army and love gobbos especially skarsnik/night goblins in the total war games. i want to understand if i'm just being salty or if goblins really are that expensive.
>>
>>98547649
Horde armies tend to be more expensive than than elite armies as chaff tends to cost more $ per point than elite models. Every range suffers from this, you get 20 peasants in Cathay for the same price as 20 Jade Warriors
>>
>>98547649
Because people like them and want to collect them. Orcs and goblins were one of the most popular armies back in the day and they're still very popular now. Supply and demand, anon!
>>
>>98547652
fuck me only liking the idea of playing goblins in fantasy and tyranids in 40k. should i just avoid regular goblin units then and mainly go for night goblin and special units?
i recently made an offer on a battle for skull pass box (mostly unpainted units, a few painted badly, but whatever i can't afford an unopened box with only unpainted units) and wonder if it's as much of a good idea now.
>>
>>98547663
maybe i underestimated how popular they are/were.
>>
>>98547649
i've found goblins to be fairly cheap compared to others. still easy to get the blackfire pass stuff for cheap with patience and there is always people selling their gloomspite gitz armies so it's easy to get trolls, squigs and fanatics heavily discounted.

keep your eyes on the 2nd hand market
>>
>>98547670
You can strip painted models with relative ease. That might save you a couple bucks.
>>
>>98547675
oh i see. can you generally assume that 100% of painted models you find on the market can be strip painted without damage to the model?
this is just random question but why don't the sellers strip paint them? i wouldn't mind doing it myself but can't they tell they might get a better price for no-paint units compared to ones that look like a 12 y/o painted them.
>>98547674
ty anon.
>>
>>98547685
Unless they're made of resin, you can strip any model with a bit of effort, latex/vinyl gloves, and the right chemicals. You can strip resin models with a bit more effort and different chemicals. As for why sellers don't strip them, it's not worth the effort for the amount of value to be gained. It's expected that the buyer will be stripping the models anyway, so why invest the effort to only gain a couple of extra dollars at best? Sometimes stripping can take a lot of time, especially if the models and more importantly the paint on them is very old and heinous. Anyway, if you're looking for plastic goblins, stripping will be a bit more annoying than if you were looking for metal goblins, but you'll be fine. Get some LA's Totally Awesome (or your preferred degreaser/paint stripper, 99% iso also works), some gloves, a sealed container, and a firm toothbrush, and you'll be off to the races.
>>
>>98547685

Used to be great, long since washed. Will now usually just repeat other rumourmongers, or keep shit so vague it might mean just about anything. There was one especially funny "rumour" of his where he basically accounted for every possible option. Full of things like:
>I've heard that legacy factions might not come back
>but also, that it's very possible they will
>in which case, it might be all, or only some
>this could be soon, but also some time away
There were like five other topics talked about by him in the exact same way.
My guess is that he used to have legit connections, lost those for one reason or another, but since he was already hooked on the attention he just tries to stay relevant.
