Got a 2k game in last weekend against a DG player. Pretty good guy. He went heavy on artillery which was a fun matchup for my blob squads of WB true believers. Shot me off the board but I won on VP so all according to plan.

Did custodes ever leave Terra aside from Burning of Prospero for the Heresy? I want to try running a narrative campaign but half the people at my LGS are only interested in custodes
>>98550068There were some attached as tard wranglers to lorgar that got killed by Argel Tal and the first Gal Vorbak. The custodes didnt have MUCH of a presence in the heresy at large, but imo theres enough room to find a reason for them to be somewhere in some capacity. Although admittedly "Half the players are custodes" is a bit tricky to explain in universe, especially if theyre going to fight each other.
>>98550068They were on Signus Prime with the Blood Angels at the very least.A strike team was sent to the Keiper bely to secure a possessed attack satalite thing. I'm sure there were various strike teams sent out.A few were sent to <my dudes> planet of operation to ostracize them from the loyalists and be messily killed
how broken is this unit?my WB friend insists they're better than gal vorbak but I'm not seeing it
>>98550068Not really. The Custodes arc during the HH was all about fighting in the Webway, and later at the very, very end of the Siege. And they got reduced to less than 1/10 of their original number and lost most of their machines fighting daemons in the Webway.FW added a fanfiction force of them to the Signus Prime campaign of the BA (HH: Malevolence book), but it's retarded and it should be ignored.Anyway, part of the game is to play "alternate history" or "what if" scenarios, so playing a small force of Custodes going on missions like the Knight Errants should not be ruled out.
>>98550122>Malevolence
>>98550119Look pretty damn strong. My experience with 1e us very limited, but their durability seems good (if you choose to go that way) and ditto for offense if you spec them that way. Add Stubborn, innate rending and Demon saves (if thats built into demon) and they seem pretty monstrous.
>>9854829440kg visitor here, it definitely beats the daily Discord raiders obsessing over their pet lolcow there
>>98550119No idea. But this unit seems entirely usable in 3e more or less exactly as it is, and I assume there has been quite a lot of statline "bloat" since 1e.
>>98550246GV get like two and a half of those options
>>98550313GV are also pretty damn good best as I know. I guess your friend values that fnp and lower price point a whole lot. And I do think FNP is pretty big on t5 dudes, durability gets better the more of it you have and all that. Also: unlike the GV you can give every possessed a melee weapon, not just the sgt.
>>98550313They get a mixed bag out of several of them:They get t5 from option 1 (lacking the fnp)They get s5 and rage from option 2 (no furious charge)They get ws5 I5 from option 4 (no crusader or fleet, but iirc crusader was the WB trait or something?)Less "2.5" and more 1.5. And theyre more expensive, AND theyre lacking in options in comparison to the possessed. I dont know if the possessed are better, but I could definitely see the argument for it.
>>98550334the difference of opinion stems from the fact that weapons that kill GV also kill possessed (paragon blades, demolisher cannons, medusas etc) regardless of if they have a FNPthe weapons is a good point but power weapons are expensive and having base rending is already decent restricting them to one in five like GV would be fine to me>>98550347WB get to reroll 1s to sweeps so it's better on top of crusader they also get deep strike, but the point is that GV get the best of a lot of worlds (possessed will often have to choose between hitting or wounding on 3s or getting wounded on 4s or 5s)
>>98550119extremely; Daemon iirc gives them the old Fear rule, 5++ and makes them unbreakable, so they can't cap objectives but they can squat on them and make anything that comes close run away; they don't seem to have Daemonic Instability (idk what Damned is here) so idk whether they'll get stronger and tougher for the first two turns, profile mid-game and weaker at the end (or was it the other way around), and all of their melee is rending so 6+ is auto-wound at AP2, and they roll D6+D3 for AP so technically can rip apart land raiders and onebang them with a chainswordthe only things about them that are at all redeeming are the 30ppm initial cost (25 for extras is a joke tho), the generally shit weapons - most of the melee options already have or don't benefit from old Rending and the shooting is sniffing farts on a windy day, and the 3+ armour at T4; you can just take them out with combi-bolters and lasrifles as fast as you'd take out twice as many MEQ; the sergeant having 3W and a tanking 2+ would slow that down but not by much, and after that they're gonna get shot to shit

>>98550591>why don't you remember every detail from two editions agoprobably because I was thinking of the 7E Daemons Codex or the Ruinstorm list for a couple of pointsthe AoDR rule is>Daemon>Models with the Daemon special rule have a 5+ invulnerable save, and also have the Fear special rule.and just so we're clear>Fear>At the start of each Fight sub-phase, a unit in base contact with one or more enemy models that causes Fear must take a Leadership test (called a Fear test) before any blows are struck. If it is passed, all is well and there is no effect. If it is failed, the unit succumbs to fear – all models in the unit have their WS reduced to 1 for the rest of that Fight sub-phase. Note: A model that causes Fear is not itself immune to Fear, and will still need to take a Fear test if in base contact with enemy models that cause Fear.good luck fighting Rending at WS1>Rending>If a model has the Rending special rule, or is attacking with a Melee weapon that has the Rending special rule, there is a chance that their close combat attacks will strike a critical blow. For each To Wound roll of a 6, the target automatically suffers a wound, regardless of its Toughness. These wounds are resolved at AP 2.>Similarly, if a model makes a shooting attack with a weapon that has the Rending special rule, a To Wound roll of 6 wounds automatically, regardless of Toughness, and is resolved at AP 2.>In either case, against vehicles, each Armour Penetration roll of 6 allows a further D3 to be rolled, with the result added to the total. These hits are not resolved at AP 2, but are instead resolved using the model/weapon’s AP value.(Rending actually does do that; AP2 can roll a 7+ on the VDT and onebang AV14 - it's about 1/130)they can't cap because their ale says they can't, if that's what's throwing your back out

>>98550852I was thinking about Despoiler squads, but it seems like jumping though a series of hoops to use
>>98550894Despoilers send tactical squads running 9 times out of 10, even when charging out of a Rhino. Otherwise it gets them to an objective to squat on. That's all despoilers need from their transport. If you them to attack before tactical marines give them a couple of power spears.
>>98550906and yet, they were wiped out, how curious...i guess....they will be despoiling the battlefield.
>>98550986Despoilers are 1 wound 3+ save infantry with line 2, what do you expect? It's not a matter of if they die, but when.
Chain weapons should be +1 to wound
>>98551029Back to 40k with your dumb opinions.
>>98549243
>>98551036NO! Chain weapons should be +1 to wound. This gives them a solid use instead of just being the lame cheap option. Power weapons will carry all the AP benefits, but heavy chainswords will also have breaching to make them more appealing.
>>98551064Chain weapons need to go back to being basic close combat weapons, like they have been for the longest time. Because that is what they are.

>>98551143yeah I wanted to steal some of the WB models to add to my army
>>98551113Closest chainswords and power swords ever got to be balanced was 2.0, where chainswords had Shred. Still inferior to an actual power sword, but the sarge wielding it could level things out with a plasma pistol for example. Now shred itself is gone, and even sarges as a thing are baaarely there unless you are DA and can literally spam shit.
>>98551202Kill yourself, go back to 40k if you think every unit and weapon needs a reroll and 4 special rules.
>>98551213What keeps me away from 40k IS the fact every single fucking unit has a special rule. Exploding dice when hitting an understrength unit, extra AP when attacking a full unit, reroll 1s when something, reroll full wounds when something else. It's always something. But their chainswords are balanced and their [Power Weapon]s are generic. It's the one thing j can't fault them. Why are you allergic to Shredding chainweapons? We literally just had those.
Has anyone here used: WPF Gemstone Red and TTC Scarab Red. To paint Thousand Sons?
>>98551201what army do you play?
>>98551612Can't speak for Scarab Red, but TTC's others colored metallics are quite light from what I've personally tried, namely Omega Blue and Carapace Green, though they would be fine for highlighting at least. Have you looked at Vallejo's True Metallic Color range? That's got a full suite of Base/Wash/Highlight paints for each color, the latter is even lighter than TTC.
>>98551624>Vallejo's True Metallic Color rangeThe Ruby Red set looks perfect thanks anon
>>98551652It's considerably more recent, at least from earlier in the year or so. I'm planning on using the Turquoise for AL.
>>98551657Sapphire Blue might be a better fit but I'm biased towards brighter colors.
Guys I know you can't play a full tank list. But if you would want to play one, how do you do it to get an army that doesn't auto lose? Do people just spam centurions and various predators/vindicators, maybe with some cataphract or tartaros terminators in land raiders to counter attack objectives that tanks can't take?
>>98551937You actually can play a full tank list. Command rhinos are a command choice, so you get to take a detachment for them. Then there's even the command spartan from the Mailed Fist journal now, which even allows you to take two armour detachments. What you then do is load up on tanks, block access to objectives by putting vehicles around them, and earn VP from secondary objectives and by giving your shooty tanks vanguard 1 with the command rhinos.
I'm thinking about buying one or more Sabres. I like their WW2 Hetzer tank vibes. What would be the best loadout for them?
>>98551948Oh that is cool. I thought that after they removed the Siccarian commander, it wouldn't be possible. Thanks I will try to buy a rhino or two as my HQ. What is a journal? Like an article in White Dwarf or on their site.
>>98552023Not the autocanon I can tell you that, from personal expiriance.
>>98552023The best loadout? The one that looks better than the others. Rules and editions changes, miniatures are eternal. Or just magnetize it, cmon
>>98552023Probably double volkite and go bully infantry. Or a neutron laser to scare kratoses. The autocannon feels like its in this awkward spot where it tried to do everything and does nothing well.
>>98551937Well, since vehicles cant score you need some sort of "something" that can sit on a point and get objectives (or has vanguard to score that way)
>>98552162The command spartan is in the Mailed Fist journal. Everything else is in the liber, and the free legacies PDF found on the warhammer community downloads page. Here's a little something to get you started: gofile.io/d/tHptRCDR
>>98552321Not really, denying objectives is arguably a more viable strategy than trying to camp objectives yourself. Killing or keeping tactical squads away is so easy, anything can do it. Alternatively anon could include one techmarine detachment, and have a bunch of techmarines running around keeping his tanks fully repaired and status free, whilst also claiming the objectives This might even be an oppressive army, with how tough tanks are now.
>>98552360>denying objectives is arguably a more viable strategy than trying to camp objectives yourself. No, it isnt. Just definitively and fundamentally. Denying objectives cannot win you the game, it can only slow down the other persons scoring. You need something that will sit on the objectives and get you the points. >Killing or keeping tactical squads away is so easy, anything can do it.In the abstract? Yes. In the practical? No.Yes, every unit in the game can and will over time kill tacticals. No, doing so in a timely and cost efficient manner is not easy or even really possible in most situations. The firepower required to kill a 100pts tactical unit in one turn is much higher than 100pts worth. The dreaded double plasma contemptor (a very good unit, one of the most cost efficient "squad deleters" in the game) does not kill a 10 man tactical squad on his own in a turn (assuming they dont massively clump up and so on), even before you get into things like "los is often limited" and "cover exists". Keeping units away before they score is even harder, transports are fast. The only way to "proactively deny" a point in most instances is to put something with a big enough footprint to block range or to put more "weight" on it than what the opponent can try and claim it with. The gameplan of "well, turns 1/2 I just sit back and shoot the enemy with my tanks! but turns 3/4 my techmarines can score me points!" has the issue of "line exists" (among other things). It is very possible, indeed quite likely even, that you end up in a "mathematical loss" situation with that sort of gameplan where even if/when you clear out all their line units/tacticals you have such a deficit that you cant win even if they let you waddle your techmarines onto the point and sit there. . >>98551937Theres missions for tank list fights in the tallarn journal (armored fist), do that. "All tank" lists are neither good nor fun (for either player) in normal games.
>>98552502Looks like the nogames nomodels armchair generals have woken up.>numerous dumb assumptions>one-on-one-in-a-void comparisons>heavily biased arguments Trying to explain how an all tank list to you would be a waste of time, it's very obvious you have made up your mind and can only see things through your own personal bias.
>>98552542Anon you understand that "just kill all their units lol" works BEST in a whitepaper 1v1 scenario right? That a real game with things like "terrain" that "blocks line of sight" makes it infinitely harder to do things like "just kill all their tacticals"?So if your idea falls apart in the (for it: advantageous) land of pure theoretical mathematics, its not going to work in actual practice.
So, Custodes box today?
>>98552555Damn, you really are the CEO of nogames. >continues harping on the "just kill all their tacticals" argument that only he himself has mentionedYou don't even need anybody else to have an argument, with how skilled you are at creating strawmen lol.
>>98552577>>continues harping on the "just kill all their tacticals" argument that only he himself has mentioned>"Killing or keeping tactical squads away is so easy, anything can do it."
>>98552579>denying objectives is a more viable strategy than scoring them
>>98552579Not sure if ESL, illiterate, or just retarded. But keep seething, it's very entertaining.
>>98552589Honestly the immediate backpeddaling is commendable, it suggests youre aware of how retarded your initial statement was if nothing else. Unfortunately, you did write it out and post it. Its there. You went and said "actually just killing all their scoring is a better strategy than scoring". Hopefully the shame keeps you from saying dumb shit like that in the future.
>>98552596Bloody hell, you actually can't read more than half a sentence huh.Trolls aren't what they used to be. They're too obvious, with blatantly cherry-picking whilst trying desperately to ignore everything else, and the sheer delusion. It's kinda sad.
>>98552575The one with jetbikes and telemon dreadnought? Should mean we also get a new journal, it has the rules for that new telemon weapon after all. Really curious about the daemons of tzeentch armylist that supposedly also will be in that journal.
>>98552607>cherry-picking whilst trying desperately to ignore everything elseAh I see. Im sure the rest of the post definitely explains the complex nuance meant by "denying scoring" and "tacticals are easy to kill". Oh wait, no. Its just saying that a handful of techmarines will be able to sit on objectives uncontested once the tanks kill everything and how you think that would be oppressive.
>>98552607"blatantly cherry picking">>98552321>you need something that proactively scores to win the game>>98552360>actually denying points is better, you can just kill tacticals easy
>>98552613i would guess those two come at the same time.Yeah, the Tzeentch list will be interesting to see
If anyone has a saturnine praetor, could you be an absolute hero and provide the measurements for the length of the Tabard and width of the belt buckle?
Fuaaaark I totally forgot to post about the event I went to last weekend Oh well, might as well start now. The event was based on Beta Garmon III. The EOs set up a fantastic set of missions, a map system, and encouraged everyone to take “oaths of moment” which were narrative challenges that would help your side immensely if you managed to pull them off, but backfire painfully if you didn’t. This was also a super special event where you were allowed to bring 50% of your list as Lord of War rather than 25%. In this setting I chose to be traitor Raven Guard, cut from the cloth of Terran RG sent to the outskirts of the Galaxy and then picked up by a Sons Of Horus fleet that worked with them previously. My first game was against Shattered Legions Imperial Fists, Iron Hands, Ultramarines, and Mechanicum. My Warhound did great in its first ever outing here, absolutely slamming Mechanicum tanks and dreadnoughts alike with the plasma blast gun. I ended up in a scrap with my opponent’s saturnine dead (of which he asked if he could use his custom melee profile for a really cool weapon he purchased, of which I of course agreed too as it was awesome) but unfortunately he ended up killing all but my Praetor, saved by the bell at Turn 5.
>>98552666>length of the tabard~16 mm>width of the belt buckle~13.5 mm in its entirety, 7 mm for only the central circle
>>98552697Thank you very much anon!
>>98552688But /hhg/ assured me titans were absolutely and completely useless! Top kek.Sounds like a great event. What kind of objectives did those oaths of moment have?
>>98552688Sorry, he did not purchase the weapon, madlad put it together himself. Hard to see but it’s a super dope chainsaw mace.Anyway, game 2 was against Custodies. Boooo. Like most custodies games vs anything with fast movie targets, just rush and move react to keep them out of combat and deny them vanguard. I never liked playing against Custodies in previous editions but I think 3.0’s design for their army is interesting. Limited reactions and them still moving pretty fast makes for an interesting cat and mouse game. My Centurion with Thunder Hammer ended up one-rounding a shield captain in a challenge, which felt great. Fuck you banana boys.
Hey I'm new to HH and I haven't played any games yet. I want to bring one or two solar auxilia lasrifle sections as allies for my iron warriors, I thought about using them as objective holders but they're only line 1. Should I just use tacticals to sit on objectives with their line 2 and use the auxilia as screening troops or something? A 20 man blob is only 90 points I think. I don't want to bring too many though maybe just 20 or so tops for a little extra flavor. What do you guys think?
>>98552688What did the melee weapon do? Cant imagine what sort of thing you would have to have to make a melee saturnine work. Guessing massive amounts of reaping blow?
>>98552716If you take an SA line command section (or whatever it's called) lasrifle sections become line 2 when they are in line of sight of it.
>>98552716You can bring a line command section to bump them up to line(2). On their own? it depends on how much existing line you have. If youre already bringing like 50 tacticals? Probably no point. But if you only have 20 or whatever then just the ability to grab an extra objective, or leave a unit to hold something in your backline for cheap while your forces move elsewhere, or a backup unit for when something dies, can all be valuable. Plus its cool.
>>98552708They were actually all custom, players worked with EOs to formulate a fair and challenging mission based on any ideas they had for themselves. I’ll go into mine on Game 4.My game 3 was super interesting, as I decided to go with entering the Titanwalk, as I brought 2 warhounds. My buddy who asked to use it got sick so the other one wouldn’t have been play otherwise. But before that, I was asked to do some Recon…My Raven Guard, after “slaughtering” the Custodies last mission, found data pertaining to a Magos that the custodies wanted to execute. This particular Magos supposedly had a large stockpile of atomics, but needed to be rescued. After some die rolls and Imperial Tarot shenanigans, my boys saved the day, and decided to work with the Magos in distributing these atomic weapons to our traitor allies. The first major target we destroyed was a city. This ended up altering my Salamander player buddy’s next game, as he now had to conduct a rescue operation in addition to the main mission. Back to the titanwalk. This one was my first ever and I had an absolute ton of fun. The board was packed and we were all so energetic just trying to take down as many of the enemy titans as we could. Our side ended up with the only two engine kills: a reaver and a warhound.>>98552720Yup, reaping blow 4, which I thought was fair.

>>98552738>Yup, reaping blow 4, which I thought was fair.Yea, feels reasonable. They only have like 2A base dont they? And theyre slow as shit on top of that. Frankly even something like "it attacks like a knight stomp" wouldnt be too much imo given they trade a gun for it.
>>98552746That is correct, 2 attacks with WS 4 at initiative 3. The saturnine dread profile clearly isn't meant to be a melee powerhouse lol.
>>98552738Start of Day 2. This is where I did my oath of moment. I knew that I’d be facing my other buddy who plays Nemesis Chapter Ultramarines, so I came up with an interesting idea: my Raven Guard, now flush with nuclear materiel, would want to start engaging in area denial and terror tactics. However, being the experts on the subject, his army would be sent to stop me, intercept and deactivate my dirty bombs, and then deliver them to the loyalists for payback. My method of planting was simple: my Moritat was the only person in my army capable of planting these charges. Whenever he was totally within an area of Medium terrain, he must pass an Int check. A fail did nothing, but he needed to plant 4 bombs to succeed… in a 4 turn game… with Int 8. Very scary! The game itself was great. Always love playing against my buddy in particular. He uses a lot of Phosphex in his list, and it did its job really well. However, not only did I clinch the main mission, I also killed and claimed two Garmonian Mega Worms (attracted to the radioactive materiel and the tremors created by my Knight Atrapos), and planted all 4 bombs! Total victory for the traitors here. After the game I decided that my dirty bombs were best set within hab blocks to deal with civilians and some loyalist troops. This was a good pick, as that hab block was firmly under loyalist control the previous day, but they unfortunately lost it in a sea of radiation and collapsing infrastructure.
>>98552740I have many!
>>98552769Yea...Thats why I think the knight stomp could be good. It largely mitigates the low attacks and WS, feels pretty "on theme" for the big lumbering dread and shouldnt be too powerful depending on the profile you give it (going with the knights S user (8), Ap3, D2(?) would leave it pretty tame honestly, could give it breaching and still have it be balanced).
>>98552775Solar Aux buddy’s game from day 1. This was actually his 2nd time ever playing 3.0, he had a blast.
>>98552772Damn, that must have been a very heavily narrative driven event, cool shit.
>>98552781More of your sickdookie yellow SA friend too
>>98552781Those SA look like they come pre-irradiated
>>98552772Back to the usual programming; after the previous success in my mission, I was actually rewarded with a video! These are a staple of their events: the EOs write up a neat narrative choice for you to make, and one of their wives narrates it in a prerecorded message. Mine was simple, and very keyed in to my personal narrative so far. The traitors stockpile of nuclear arms was so vast at this point that we could do some serious damage. As I was the go between for the Magos and the rest of the traitors, I was chosen to choose what to do with them:A) Bomb the Titan yards of the loyalists and deny them major strength in the coming battles, while possibly harming any of ours within the vicinity.b) sending them into the crust of the earth to destroy dug in loyalist positions, which could structurally compromise the planet. You know EXACTLY what I chose. Fuck Beta Garmon III, I chose to termite drill out of our assets to surprise our foes, and it went very well. I rolled a 6 after my choice, and all loyalists had to keep 1 squad of infantry not already chosen to stay in reserves, in reserves at the start of the game. This apparently helped cull loyalist line scoring well enough in game 5 for my side.My game 5 was a total meme though. My buddy brought a very silly list. A custodies army with just the following: 3 sets of Terminator Tribune, Shield Captain, and 6 custodies terminators. Obviously no scoring potential, but he was committed to losing as few models as possible and being the rock AND hard place. Was a very fun time, I cleared this one too.>>98552782It was! They really go all out in making sure everyone plays to the narrative.
>>98552789Here’s them at the titanwalk
>>98552820In my final game I unfortunately forgot to take many photos. However, it was a very quick and simple game. I was set against my Salamanders buddy, who wanted revenge for the civilians I so unmercifully slaughtered. There was no quarter here. The salamanders were outgunned, outmanned, and outmaneuvered. Vulkan died like the bitch he is, and I tabled my opponent. I was asked by the traitors to make a speech for my war record and said that “this day would be remembered in such infamy that Istvaan 5 would seem like a minor footnote.”In the end, the traitors decimated the map. We out scored on Oaths of Moment, Map Control, and Mission Wins. The dogs of the Emperor were sent with their tail between their legs, and we marched on to Terra.

>>98554046
>>98554059thanks! now just to track it down as I do remember seeing it in some ancient WD (I think)
>>98554046It wasn't really a thing in HH1; it was ported from the Badab books (the last Imperial Armour books before HH launched) as a mission special rule in Betrayal and as the Hardened Armour rule for Breachers; but FW Breachers were just FW mkIII's with a shield, a no-grille faceplate and a Brodie helmet-style top to their helmetsthe Breachers were new to HH, the older siege mantlet kit (which I think is where Void Hardened came from, or at least hardened, there was a distinction iirc) was mkVII helmets with a shield that was more like the UM Praetorian shields, but the rules were quite different to Breachers
Anyone else want to see stories set in the great crusade? It'd be cool to see the legions united fighting together with imperial expedition fleets when the imperial was still whole.
MkV was originally supposed to be the armour mark that visually defined the HH, but since Collected Visions Mk4 pretty much became that. It works for all legions. I'm glad it's back. It's the mark I most strongly associate to the HH aesthetics. What have you guys doing with it?

>>98554252>MkV was originally supposed to be the armour mark that visually defined the HH
>>98554377Possesed like the Luperci were not really stronger than regular marines in the lore. Their value came from their daemonic nature and being able to be made fast from brain dead bodies, loyalists, or inductii. >>98554851>>It needs a fuckhuge Legacies PDF to recover most of it backMost of the legacies units are units that were legacies previously. >>PDF guts Sisters of Silence into a footnote by the same policyBecause that was a conscious choice about "things custodes should not have" rather than "we are putting the exemplary battle units in a pdf"

>>98552957>>98552978desu learning the right terrain balance is just as important as learning the rules.
>>98554851The libers didn't include a lot of options because the internal struggle at GW, where the suits wanted to enforce no models no rules on HH whilst the HH team clearly did not. As a compromise, expanded options being released in the legacies and journals. The size of the legacies PDF wasn't helped by it including several brand new units. I'm not complaining, getting siege tartaros and stuff is fucking coolSoS units did not re-appear in legacies rules because, unlike other legacies units, they did not even used to have models at one point and can't be easily kitbashed. Heck, it isn't even clear what half of their units should look like. What SoS really need is a proper model range release and their own liber/journal with rules. Sadly, it appears that instead SoS are being slowly squatted in favour of femstodes being pushed. >Real women being pushed away and ignored in favour of troons, art really does imitate reality.

I always wondered... what does "serpenta" in "volkite serpenta" stand for? most volkite weapons are named after middle age cannons or not!destroyer. apparently skitarii have a phospex serpenta if that means anything. must be tastier than volkite battery fluid tho.
>>98555833probably refers to the serpentine lock which is the firing mechanism everyone thinks of when someone says matchlock
>>98555925that must be it, thanks! any connections between "charger" and other middle age weaponry or it's just generic (eg "assault variant")?
>>98555833Serpenta means snake in latin. So I think it was supposed to be a name only for volkite pistols feed from cables going to the backpack.Like in the original RT cover or in the destroyer minis. But since the special rules apply to the models and not to the weapon, FW reused the name for all volkite pistols. No need to have 2 profiles in the rules.
Any suggestions for good Penal Legion based? I was thinking about painting up five to ten of them for my Iron Warriors and use some Corpse Grinder heads, but I'm not sure about which bodies to use.
>>98556168Flagellant bodies. They're quite a bit less jumpsuit-wearing inmates and more "enslaved victims" in their design, which would be perfect for Iron Warriors IMO.Maybe give them some guns from the GSC/Blooded

>>98555387My perhaps somewhat hot take is that its fine to mix it up every now and then. The occasional low terrain game (or super high terrain game) help keep things interesting and help different sorts of units shine every now and then. But yes, learning "the normal game needs quite a lot of terrain" is quite important.
>>98555387If a warlord can draw LOS across the entire table, you need more LOS blocking terrain. It can mean less overall terrain but more LOS blocking terrain. For example, this pic? Too much terrain, and yet still, a warlord can see everything. It needs more LOS blocking.
>>98557111That's all well and good. Sometimes you want to tell a specific story But a warlord should never be able to see the entire table. You have to have some LOS blocking terrain so shit like Knights or Warhounds can hide, even if it's only one or two pieces.
Has anyone tried the old style MKIV jump packs on the new marines? Im considering getting some printed but im not certain it will work with their new back shape. (I know this is a 3d print, but it looks to have a similar connection to the old style NL one at least).
>>98557241One anon posted pics of it one or two threads back.
>>98557277Thanks. Looks a tad awkward, but worth testing out.
>>98557294I still didn't managed to paint the dude, but everytime I look at it I like it more. Imo the size is OK and it will be even better once it's painted.
I said I would port the possessed to 3e, so here they are. Not quite 1:1, but pretty damn close. They seem decently balanced too imo, Ws4 is a much bigger detriment than it may have been in 1e and W2 is less of a big deal (as is t5), so they should make for a reasonable veteran tier unit now.
>>98557502Personally I'd remove the bolters and access to special weapons list. Possessed have always been portrayed as melee focussed berzerkers, them having ranged weapons beyond pistols feels weird.
>>98557519That would definetly be more "in spirit" with the current design philosophy (bolter OR chainsword, not both, is the sentiment you get from a lot of current units, even command squads cant have guns AND malee). But the original unit had it (or a variant of it, flamer, plasmagun, or meltagun, which I simplified to "any special weapon"), and even GVB have some options for things like meltaguns iirc, so I kept it. Plus I think it helps make the unit a bit more interesting, its still not exactly a lot of firepower, but it adds some conversion possibilities and helps make the "base package" feel better
>>98557540Now, what you COULD do, if you were to go that route, is something like this: Adds the new "despoiler class" options (1 in 5 can swap for pistols (could maybe be anyone, like vets, but idk), can swap for heavy chainsword or heavy chainaxe)

Should they be Shock Assault without an invuln, or elites and keep it?

>>98561322Just have the flamer in one hand?
>>98561332Not sure I have any one handed flamers around, but ill check.
>>98561348>Night Lord can't cut a hand offTee hee
>>98561304>. I think I need to learn how to freehand,One of the easiest skills to practice, but one of the hardest to master. Just prime some plasticcard and do a ton of test runs before you commit.>>98555457Superb.
>>98561318:^)
>>98559541Then a str 8 or 10 pie plate lands on them and turns most of the squad into jelly.
>>98561848>Another dumb, ignorant responseFucking hell, grogs really are dying out. Even in this place there's barely anybody who has lived through the older editions any more.
Finally a Circle edition update!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4PozrG6PfU
>>98560797>he doesn't know
The Hellstorm cannon is a titan weapon whose rules lived up to the fluff. In fluff it's a rotary cannon that fires schwerer gustav sized thermonuclear tipped shells. On the table it dropped a cluster of up to 4 large pie plates Sv-2 with a shitload of barrage points. Limited to 2 1/2 full unleashments though.I should really do the limited work to update the rules to modern AT/LI. Generally the titan needs a buff in void shields and other things assuming the original points cost is kept but the Hellstorm just needs a few existing special rules tacked on.Might also be fun to have stats for an off the table strike by the Hellstorm in HH and it's 4x 25" scales up blasts. Like those SOVL stories from the Eye of Terra campaign where Store Managers GMing orbital strikes to 40k or Epic games if a ship in a Battlefleet Gothic game managed to bombard the planet.
>>98558768The writing was on the wall a long time ago. People can JUST play older editions, just like in the heresy.
>>98558768GONE gone? or "relegated to legacy rules" gone (not gone)?
>>98561930Both. Some things, like predators and whirlwinds, got relegated to legacy rules. But others, like tactical squads, devastators, and a bunch of characters, are completely gone, with GW only suggesting to use them as proxies.
Do we have a custodes rulebook floating around somewhere? There's not one in the gofile.
>>98561917>In fluff it's a rotary cannon that fires schwerer gustav sized thermonuclear tipped shells.I've only ever seen it depicted as an energy volley weapon.
>>98557156No, that's not necessary. Full line of sight blocking is fine but lots of mixed terrain will still block line of sight. Maybe not completely but that -2 to hit is often all you need to survive and lets the players be involved the whole game instead of just moving around a bit and having maybe two turns of combat. If there's too much terrain a warlord can just blow it's own firing lanes for starters. Teasing out that little bit of line of sight encourages movement. Also you can't have too much huge buildings that block all LoS because you still need enough space for models to actually move around.
>>98561946only turned them into proxies to avoid some old fans getting pissed at them, then again, they'll still consoom the product regardless.
>>98562176Pretty sure there's basically no old fans left at this point. Only the ones that never cared about the lore or the setting anyway, maybe.
>>98561917Considering modern AT I would frame it as a more upscaled macro gatling blaster with ordnance and voidbreaker rather than blastHave a second laser version with shieldbane and maybe also voidbreaker>Might also be fun to have stats for an off the table strike by the Hellstorm in HH that's basically just artillery barrage
>>98562085GW has been inconsistent with whether it fires shells or lasers. Emperor class titans already have a massive fuck off multi-barrel laser the Vengeance Cannon which is a pair of twin linked orbital defense lasers/void ship scale lances.
>>98562210There's plenty, actually. People will see new models and like them without having hissy fits over new fluff or muh monopose or anything we here prescribe as important. What's being done to space marines is not remotely similar to other ranges which are being refreshed wonderfully so xenos and guard players will generally be thrilled.
>>98562230you've made me think the Hellstorm needs different rules for AT and Ligma. In LI you want to keep throwing up to 4 pie plates aspect. I was thinking it being Limited (10) meaning 10 templates, heavy barrage with a good number of dice and shieldbane maybe engine killerBut in AT how many people would avail themselves of firing 4 blast templates?since as per the original rules the markets have to all be in edge contact with each other so it's not sniping 4 engines it's just a larger splash zone around a single point.
>>98562310>firing 4 blast templates?4 blast templates is the realm of acastus knights.
Anyone here have examples of custom legion "mortifactors"? Not the 40k chapter, but the 30k individual commander that leads dreads. I want to build one (or 5 or 6, considering I have like 20 dreads atm) and would love to see some peoples versions of them for inspo.
>>98562396
>>98561946This is why I am fully on board with people fleecing as much money as they can away from GW. 3d printing, recasting, straight up just selling full on copies of EVERYTHING, not just older OOP forge world shit. "First Born" is a fucking SLAVE name that I will NEVER use. They are MARINES, thats it. Everything after them like primarishit is just a collective fever dream/desperate imperial propaganda/warp fuckery/timey whimey faggotry multiversal bullshit. Cawl and rowboat waking back up NEVER happened.>>98562210As someone who never actually cared about the game in ANY capacity at all and only cared about the LORE and building/painting/converting, I disagree. Were out there, its just that there isnt much left of what we loved in the first place anymore. Shit like this is why I just depressingly laugh at the "HURRRRR GATEKEEP EVERYTHING!!!!1!!!!!!!" crowd, because "gatekeeping" doesnt stop the company who makes the thing you love from killing it....it doesnt protect it from its own creators fucking hubris and ego....
>>98562421NEAT. any better pics of his staff? Thats the part I want some good examples of for sure. Ive seen a few out there, but theyre all mostly just the cog style axes usually.
>>98562396I don't feel like taking an individual picture
>>98562439Noice!
>>98562435It's just the deathwatch mace head on top of a mkIII thunder hammer haft.
>>98562396>>98562421>>98562439>>98562444I wonder why they called them "Mortifactors" when theres a 40k chapter that already exists....guessing it was some designer who didnt know that and the name just made it to print or some shit....I mean, they could have just as easilly called the "Mortificators", which is what every warhammer sloptuber mispronounces the chapter name as usually.
>>98561877Right, because the top list of 5th wasn't a thing that spammed str 10 pie plates. Stupid nigger.
>>98562210There are.
>>98560314Sorry anon, I meant to post in the 40kg.
>>98561917Another question is do you keep all the Imperators bastion weapons since that back fortress has a bunch of weapons. Some are nondescript not even saying what type of weapon.>Main battery >Secondary Weapons >Defense Laser>Gun Towers>Bolters (16x bolters firing from inside regardless of if it has troops embarked)The AA defence laser, and the Gun Towers (that all cover the rear arc) make perfect sense. The "main battery" maybe needs reworked into something less generic and the rest maybe should be dropped.
>>98561141>Endryd Haar>BLShut the fuck up, tourist. Stop larping as an HH oldfag when it's obvious you're just a 40k refugee from 10th
>>98561141>>98562904
>Can now officially use tacticals as intecessors, potentially even in tournaments >rumour of a boxnaught refresh>new codexes let you mix modular detatchments with a lot of customisation>the whole range is getting buffed to be more elite, requiring less modelsUsually avoided anything marine in 40k cos primarislop, but ngl the idea of taking 40 tacticals, 10 terminators, my 2 castra ferrums and a bunch of characters and having 1200 points of the cheapest possible HH units be an elite 40k army is quite nice
>>98562904
How soon after the Heresy/during the scouring are the marines no longer using Mkii, iii, iv and moving solely on to vi and vii? I know suits appear in chapters in 40k of the older crusade and heresy patterns but they're super rare and there might be just a handful of suits even in a first founding chapter, but that doesn't give much of an answer to when they stopped becoming mainline.
