Having an orc try running a city rather than just being a nomadic wanderer is pretty interesting

Dis git stole my answer >>98558382! Besides Gorfang, my next favourite is Gorbad Ironclaw.

>super smart
>among the most successful military campaigns in the setting
>bog standard Orc boss who is super smart militarily
>one of the deadliest magic weapons in Morgor the Mangler
>kills two elector counts
>tanks a runefang through the chest in contrast to gorthor who inata died.
>has arguably the best ending of an orc character and didn't suffer from ET fluff

His narrative ends with him and a handful of orcs surrounded by Dwarfs atop a mountain of their corpses. His original fluff has him fight his way through and escape
>>
>>98558568
I like him too, he had an alliance with Skarsnik.

We might get Jade Vampires down the line if GW gets its knickers untwisted about Cathayian body horror since it's very clear China itself doesn't care about that anymore
>>
>>98559004
They'd have to bring VC out of exile, and with AOS still having a full vampire line I don't see that happening. I wouldn't be above stealing some Cathay models for my own use if by some miracle they get vampires, though.
>>
>>98558960
Those old Blood Dragons on foot were amazing models, shame they were meant as characters only. A unit of them would've been lovely.

I was a 40k only fag until a few months ago, ToW Battlemarch is way more fun for me and the boys than 40k is in 11th right now.
>>
>>98559193
I really loved 40k pre 8th, but I also played Fantasy. So while I don't like or play 40k now, at least TOW is basically just a greatest hits of 6th-8th. Hopefully next edition 40k is changed drastically so I can enjoy and play it too.

>>
>>98559193
Battlemarch is boring as shit, I will never understand what people see in it. It’s such a flawed format that only exacerbates the flaws of tow.
>>98559204
Really? 8th is where you draw the line for 40k? Not 7th or 6th? At least try to larp that 5th was great.
>>
>>98559232
>Really? 8th is where you draw the line for 40k? Not 7th or 6th? At least try to larp that 5th was great.
The core gameplay of 3rd-7th was similar enough to be recognizable. It had the same skeleton. 8th onwards is an unrecognizable game. There were better and worse balanced editions, 3-7 don't play anything like 8-11th. Might as well call it a different game in the same setting.
>>
>>98559291
Okay you’re gonna just post some copy pasted opinion that you got from some YouTuber. Nice “conversation”.
>>
>>98559232
>I will never understand what people see in it.
Less commitment since it's shorter, requires fewer models to assemble and paint for your army, and it's a smaller board.
>>
>>98559300
You seem like you have a chip on your shoulder, as I said, I enjoyed what 40k was from 4th to 7th (didn't play 3rd). I do not like what 40k is now or what it turned into post 7th. Take that as you will.

Also I love TOW and MESBG.
>>
>>98559321
Yes let’s completely defeat the purpose of a rank and flank while still keeping all of the baggage surrounding it and let’s have incredibly smaller boards! Oh and despite the smaller board, the set up time is still cumbersome.
>>
>>98559321
A big thing too is that it allows for an easier entry point into the game as a whole. Telling someone to start a game with a standard size of 2-2.5k and sometimes upwards of 100 miniatures is a harder sell than offering an entry point of a 400-700 point game with 1/4-1/3 of the miniatures. It's less overwhelming.
>>
>>98559352
For all the issues that came with 8th, its ruleset was a complete fresh breath of air for the game since 5th introduced multiple issues that only got worse with 7th being the absolute shit show that it was. It’s frankly a wonder why gw decided to use the skeleton of 7th for HH and it proved to be to the games demerit.
>>98559355
Mr gw sir, we don’t do same fagging here. No need to repeat your sales bitch.
>>
>>98559419
>likes 8th onwards
>dislikes HH
Let me guess, you don't like TOW but enjoy AoS?
>>
>>98558930
there isn't really anything to talk about
any discussion about units and rules just leads to stupid arguments with people who don't actually play the game
one can only post pretty pictures of their models so many times before it stops being interesting
what do you want to talk about regarding Warhammer Fantasy, anon?
>>
Dark Elves when? Theyre so expensive now I shoulda have stocked up even more
>>
>>98559531
You can still find some in third party stores within the EU. Otherwise you're going to have to wait maybe even a year. But I am pretty sure Dark Elves are a matter of when and not if.
>>
>>98559457
>likes 8th onwards
Where did I say that? I just said it’s a better game to play than 40k was for both of 7th and 6ths editions slogs. And I have given third edition HH a try which seemed to actually have had a vision more than what its 1st or second edition had. Second literally needed several community patches to be called a game.
>like tow or Aos
Aos was playable in second edition and aside from playing some games of spearhead last year, I haven’t interacted with it beyond that. TOW killed my 6th edition scene for fb so I’ve only participated in its 4000+ tag team tournaments point tournaments that get hosted maybe every other month here and there. Really, I tolerate tow, but prefer fb.

>>98559580
If there was a local scene for Warmaster I would 100% jump in. IDC if the game is even good or not, I love the scale.

But I shouldn't complain because the country I now live in has a very very active Fantasy/TOW and MESBG scene so all my real needs are covered.

Kino, and you absolutely should use him as a proxy and simply write him up as the leader of your local cult.

>>98560278
It's a shame GW was retarded and decided to revive the epic scale in the fucking HH dud setting of all settings. If they had done 40k or Fantasy I am sure it would have done waaaaaaaaaay better.
>>
>>98560313
I can at least understand doing Legion Imperialis since they were already doing Adeptus Titanicus and that set in the HH, but if it was something like Battlefleet Gothic or Warmaster a mirror-match game would never work
>>
>>98560313
You say that but horus heresy is a very 'safe' setting because one range accounts for like 90% of the armies. If you were to set it in say fantasy you gotta make at least 5 or 6 ranges just to start with. Same goes for 40k. While with horus heresy you just make the one and you immediately get 18 marine legions.
>>
>>98559580
I tried it a couple weeks ago myself. Going to ultimately say not a fan. It looks fantastic on the table but the rules vary from terrible to good. It wants to be a more strategic game but its own mechanics make it into a game of yahtzee. I appreciate its goal and ambition but it's just not for me.
Though I will say I really like pushback as a mechanic. Makes shooting a very interesting battlefield tactic.
>>
>>98560313
I have similiar idea - bros before hoes DE army - without any wyches, centered around black guard of Naggarond.
>>
>>98558680
It is an odd hybrid, even one youtube channel said almost the same thing. But the design started to grow on me a lot. Guy looks like a beast.
>>
>>98558628
Gorfang Rotgut is also one of the few, niche characters who actually had an astounding record against other named characters, be it in fighting just general exposure

>forged alliance with Skarsnik
>fought king khazador
>fought his son
>fought and killed a rival black orc warboss
>fought and defeated queek headtaker who killed a black orc warboss
>fought and defeated Belegar
>if he didn't get impaled by a ballista, he could have taken thorgrim. Still uppercutted him.

He died by ET but he had one of the best and dignified deaths.

To put it in simple words, GW removed almost ALL classic and canonical SM units like predator tank or tactical squad, forcing people to literally rebuy their whole armies. So if you liked your DOW 1 units - they are all gone. Codex Astartes went to the bin.
>>

What's stopping people from simply using their tac squads as primaris intercessors™, or their rhinos as primaris floatiboxae™?
>>
>>98561159
Is it tho'?
James killed off whole game (WFB), then squatted 1/3 of the stormcast eternals in AoS - and spent last 10 years squatting firstborns.
>>
I feel more anger for the good chaos warriors being squatted than I could feel for any marines being shoved down the shute.
>>
>>98561274
The problem with intercessors is, they lack options tactical squad had, like plasma guns, heavy bolters or meltas. So you can use your marines with bolters, but you can't use special or heavy weapons that made tactical squad a tactical squad.
>>
>>98561283
I wonder how long it'll take before the 2004 chaos warriors go back to their pre-TOW prices on the second hand market. They were getting pretty bad there, for a while.
>>
>>98561274
In my area, the best city in the world, Los Angeles, there are shitloads of autists with money who play tourney style only and leave no room for playing with squatted or proxied models, and/or the manager won't allow it (money).

This only applies to 40k though. The TOW players aren't that autistic about tourney behavior and much less prone to tard tantrums.

I don't personally find that that games are shorter. What dictates if a game is short or not is how experienced players are and how many units they have.
I have a 2k bret army with 4 units and it plays jsut as fast as 750pts of my VC with also 4 units.

Having to paint less models is great for newcomers but tow plays great at 1k points too for almost as many models. I think it's more of a psychological thing desu.

I like the random events though, they're really fun.
