Try to make "The Weater" playable.
Bonus points for no modern cancer ie hand knowledge and rips, turn zero plays, poplar/circular-like starters that double as extenders, send for cost and make you go +5 in the end phase.

I'm working on a online yugioh tabletop campaign with a custom format. So far I have the following worked out:
>deckbuild progression following a genesys points limit curve (something like 0, 5, 25, 50, 75, 100)
>card availability decided (generally) by MD rarity
>players can unlock higher and higher point totals for their freebuild decks, or use prebuilt decks usually used by opponents with a potential higher point total than they can get at the moment
>available starter decks would be trash normal monster boomer slop with archetypes that support it (Magikey, Primite, etc.), and would gradually graduate to modern genesys decks
>villain group building illegal decks built around particular 100-point cards

Anything I should take a look at for potential archetypes or such to use? Anything I should be weary of with this set-up?

Sounds very cool. I like the genesys as exp system a lot. I had a similar idea, before deciding to keep to boardgames.
Which era of ygo if any would your campaign be set in?
One of my ideas was to have HP (in addition to LP) or some stamina system for simple out of duel fighting and shadow games where your character could die.
Campaign wise I would have gone with some Gravekeepers vs Rare Hunters thing that is related to but distant from the main plot of Season 2 and 3.
Something about how exactly Ra was stolen with the players having him but lacking the ability to use it and slowly unlocking it's powers.
Final Boss would either be Marik or Ishizu depending on your choices.

Their roster of traps hasn't really changed that drastically so you're just looking for stuff that slots into their kit without much issue. They got a strictly superior version of Trap Trick in the form of Trap Holic, but other than that there haven't been a lot of generic traps that they can slot in recently. If you wanna run it mostly-pure but include some goodies to keep the playstyle mostly unchanged, you can include copies of Fydraulis Harmonia (handtrap that locks your ED into synchros, acting as double-removal) and the Angelechy series that recently dropped. Only catch with Angelechy is that they're Fairies, so you need to be careful about order-of-operations so you don't needlessly lock yourself out of them before you start dipping into Labrynth stuff, but they give you turn 0 plays with their trap that can be used from the hand if you're going second. You're basically running it for the Caliga-like floodgate effect, but it gives your opponent 5 activations if you have reservations about it unfairly winning duels on its own.

Also, for a very brief update on the state of the game; Fiendsmith isn't a super-popular engine anymore, but many compact 1cc engines have dropped since Fiendsmith. Mitsurugi is a main deck Ritual archetype you could run with them if you can sus out the ratios (compact engine with a 1cc so it's fine) and you could probably run Labrynth as a subengine for Ritual of Light and Darkness (BLS/Magician of Chaos-themed ritual engine). Angelechy would be the easiest one to slot in with Lab though, and I already went over that above.

Also also, it should go without saying that Lab doesn't really hold a candle to the current meta. Make it work if you wanna run it.

>Which era of ygo if any would your campaign be set in?
It'll be in its own canon separate from the anime, but the closest analog I would place it in is the Satellite from yugioh 5DS. A noir setting where when most things are settled with card games, there exists a group of people whose job is to play card games as negotiators on other people's behalf, and the players would all be in the same duelist agency, and dabble in the world of the card spirits working just under the surface.
>One of my ideas was to have HP (in addition to LP) or some stamina system for simple out of duel fighting and shadow games where your character could die.
I already have a simple dice pool system set up from previous iterations. You've got two sets of stats, (Mind, Body, Heart, Soul) and (Powerful, Quick, Careful) and checks outside of duels would involve pooling a stat from each set together and rolling, and damage would reduce your stats, with death being when you take damage and have no stats to reduce

One thing to be worried about is Towers cards. A good number of them are pointed in genesys but there are many that aren't. While it might be interesting on the receiving end like a mountain-to-climb, I think it's something that PCs maybe shouldn't because it often leads to trivialize interaction. And a counter cards in the kaiju's should be maybe adjusted so you guide playwrs towards something like "battle winners" like avramax or commitment kaijus like underworld goddess.
I'm going to assume that you're going to allow players to enjoy whatever they want by permitting Pends and Links so ypu might want to look at the current TCG and OCG F&L lists and maybe throw some points on them. If you want to be lazy you could give most a cost of 25-35 but some like Appo should be 100.
Deploy the card in pic in one of the decks. TLDR it chops off the 1000s digit. So 5000 becomes 0 and 1900 becomes 900. I think you could even do it for a couple decks, maybe make them some sort of faction. You could go as far as to even make it a special rule for an area like this faction hangs out in a radio tower (idk the setting) and in lore it fucks with duel disks (assume they're in the world) causing them to glitch out and have to play by that. If you have a different flavor going on maybe spin it be some kind of cult ritual and it's cleaving that part of the card.

Look me in the eye and tell me honestly that Ash Blossom (and Maxx C) did not single-handedly distort card design to the point that they somehow simultaneously don't kill the decks they're supposed to (bullying petdecks while any archetype Konami wants to force will either play right through or have built-in dodges with shit like "set from deck") and at the same time are "load-bearing" cards that will make everything even worse than it already is in the exceedingly unlikely scenario Konami wakes up, realizes the damage, and bans them.

The worst part is the fucking stockholm syndrome they seem to induce (at least in Japan as far as the roach goes).

Good call on the towers cards. I was planning on setting one or two up as something the team has to prepare for and build around, but I should be careful about them abusing those decks. I'm planning on keeping the lock on pendulums and links, since I know that a good chunk of the party is going to be happy to see them gone, and the others aren't so attached to them they won't find strategies they like. There will be an in-universe reason for their absence, and I may throw in a match against enneacraft as a parallel of "inscrutable higher plane bullshit" to jumpscare them, but otherwise I'm sticking to the restrictions

I don't disagree. It's annoying how any discussion about the long-term negative ramifications Ash has had on the game tends to lead to smug faggots accusing you of being a Yugiboomer who's bad at the game. And every time /dng/ posts the Japs' reactions and someone mentions Maxx C as "important to keep things in check", I want a third nuke on that retarded country.
But as you say, Ash is a load-bearing card now; it's in a pseudo-MR4 state where too many modern cards account for its existence to be cleanly removed. And at this point, we have cards that mimic Maxx C like Mulcharmies and the new Raise Moon card, so even if it gets banned make no mistake, it should I don't think as much would change as people would want it to, because Konami will always put short-sighted greed over long-term sustainability.
>>
You guys cry for bans 24/7 until you get shit on by the 10 minutes long combo decks going first.
>>
>>98565920
just because something needs to be banned doesn't mean that it doesn't need a more balanced replacement that fulfills a similar role. ash needs to go AND a new card needs to be made to fill its positive roles without having as many negative repercussions.

i think there are two main problems with ash currently: its ubiquity, and its disproportionate power going first. the latter is easy to solve, just add a restrictions a la charmies or opening to e4. the former has a couple different routes you could take. you could split the card into different versions for different applications: one covering searching, one covering foolishing, one covering setting from deck, et cetera; or you could keep the versatility but lower the efficacy by adding more counterplay. things like discarding to block the negate as found in murakumo's effect, or having a more powerful blowout effect tied to counting the number of searches like nibiru seem more interesting from a gameplay perspective than just a straightforward negate.

Ash blossom was released when a single search negate would indeed kill the average meta deck's combo, stop listening to imbeciles like j*shua and trif who want her (and impulse) banned simply because it'd help out their petdecks.

The card hurting weak decks more than meta shit these days is entirely KONMAI's fault.
>The worst part is the fucking stockholm syndrome they seem to induce (at least in Japan as far as the roach goes).
They've been begging for a maxx c ban for years now, many of them quit in protest when fuwalos and this thing were at 3. A lot more people jumped ship when they chose to hit ash and impulse instead of fuwalos, purulia, droll and the roach.
>but those cards are just as cancerous
No they're not, you're comparing 1-for-1 handtraps, one of them with an actual cost (attribute lock), to lingering ones that make you draw for each special summon or flat out lock searching.

I've been exactly where you are, anon, so I'll tell you now so your table can know that you've been playing it wrong. Cyber Emergency only works if it's a "negate and destroy" kinda thing that sends it to the grave at the same time that it cockblocks you.
For what it's worth, there's another kind of card that doesn't rely on that.
>>
>>98565135
My opinion is that you can't get rid of Ash unless you have a replacement lined up to take over the load-bearing aspect. Such as putting a "if you control no cards" clause in place on the replacement. Limit Ash first list after the replacement comes out then ban it fully on the list after that.

It would be a painful period if Konami does the normal reprint cycle, no lie. Price would be hell for awhile. But if you want it gone, it has to go through such pain.
>>
>>98561311
>Anything I should be weary of with this set-up?
Probably the biggest trouble is that TTRPGs lean towards group play but the Yu-Gi-Oh card game leans towards 1-on-1s. That is invariably going to have some difficulties.

The anime HAS had some examples of X-on-1 duels that you can reference (some of them mentioned on this page: https://yugipedia.com/wiki/Tag_Duel) and that can synergize with how you mentioned doing villains as going over 100. You could have it set that the Villains have a deck cost equal to the total of the Players with an additional value to help them handle multiple different 5 card hands going on.

Maybe something like during a 2v1 where the players are at 50 points for their decks, a villain can run a deck of 125 points (50+50 then multiplied by 1.25 for the solo debuff) and with 3v1s they have 225 (50+50+50 then multiplied by 1.5 because one person vs three is even harder)?

Heads up. This card also depends on negating the ACTIVATION. Ash Blossom negates the effect only, not the activation, and therefore does not interact with Witch's Strike. You have to read this as "negates... the activation of a [card / effect]", there would need to be a comma defining a seperate effect specific condition. Like this:
>If your opponent negates the Normal or Special Summon of a monster(s), the activation of a card or effect[, OR THE EFFECT OF A CARD]: Destroy all cards your opponent controls and in their hand.
>>
>>98569523
I've done tag and relay formats before to have player participation, though for this one I'm leaning towards having a Best Of 3 format and letting the party tag out between games. It can also play into the theme of negotiations by allowing them to revise the terms of the deal based on how the games are going.
>>
>>98567980
…you know this second effect doesn't trigger against ash right?
>>
>>98570834
God, it feels like "Problem Solving Card Text" didn't solve any problems with understanding.
>>
>>98571635
It does when you actually read the text. Cyber Emergency says that it triggers when the Activation is negated, and Ash Blossom negates the Effect. There's no shortage of precedence for the difference.
>>
>>98571635
knowing the difference between negating an activation and negating the effect is quite basic info.
>>
>>98571834

Do you have a problem understanding Imperial order? I'd imagine not if you're not retarded, although you're giving me doubts with you sperging out in your 2nd post.
Ash negates in the same manner as something like Imperial order where the effect gets negated but not the activation. So it eats up your ability to activate another.

If you sat down and understood the game a little deeper Ash was likely intentionally designed this way. Pulling things from deck is a huge part of this game and OPTs are a big point of balance. Negating the activation permits the owner to activate another copy of the card/effect so by omitting the "negate the activation" part you make the card slightly stronger as it then eats that subtle resource.
>>
>>98572019
its a pretty basic concept anon. negating the activation makes it as if the card was never activated, negating the effect makes it so the card resolves without effect. a simple example of the difference is with general wayne. if you negate the effect of your opponent's normal spell while you control him the spell will be banished because it resolved on the field, just with no effect. if you negate the activation however it will to go GY, because the spell card's activation was essentially erased and it was treated as having never been on the field in the first place. this is true even if you flip a set normal spell.
>>
>>98572019
That isn't a matter that requires a judge. Cyber Emergency's second effect ONLY triggers when the Activation is negated, and Ash Blossom does not negate the activation of the card. There is no abstraction to it-- the effect's activation condition was not met, therefore it cannot be activated. It's something that might trip up someone that picked up the game for the very first time, but that's about it.

with this hand, its pre-prep add habakiri and mirror right, with CBTG in case of ash?
>>
>>98576360
Probably. It baits them to drop Fuwa after which you have the Ash to respond to and then you have TTT to rip a possible belle out of their hand if they did throw something at you.
>>
>>98576360
if you think they're bad and/or dont have droll you could lead with prayers in the off chance they ash it, then you can let it go to rip with talents and have called for anything else or to save for their engine, but generally its better to save it as an extender.
>>
>>98576360
You probably want to let the Ash go so dont kill your own with Called By, Droll is the more threatening card anyways. Ideally you'd try to bait a handtrap out before you activate Habikiri so you can use Talents to attack the hand before you commit, its way better to do that then a blind draw 2. A good opponent will hold the Ash for Saji regardless though, and in that case you still have Prayers to keep playing.

I can't comment on the game but the logistics seem bad.
It has one small fatal flaw out the gate. It's a b*ndai tcg so it's never seeing a double digit anniversary. And the other thing is that this feels like it's double dippping the same audience of players they're trying to appeal to with OPTCG (shonenfags), so that seems like it might hurt each side's sales or fatigue existing OPTCG people.
Just ask any MTG player how things are going with double the product being thrown around and that just in their own game. This is going to be seperate games.

It's annoying because the shop near my work only does Yugioh Domain on the only day I can stay over. What the fuck is Domain?
>>
>>98581878
TLDR it's yugioh "commander"

The format permits up to 4 players to play at once and it's a free for all.
You pick any 1 monster MDor ED to be a "deck master" and that goes into a serperate holding area outside the decks, the DM does not count toward deck totals, and then you construct a deck where each MONSTER CARD, S/Ts are all free, must align with the DM's 'domain' which are the following traits:
>Specific cards directly named in text (only the cards themselves)
>Archetypes (including those belonging to mentioned cards)
>Attributes (e.g. Fire, Dark)
>Monster Types (e.g. Warrior, Dragon)
As an example for the archetype rules if you play Blue-Eyes White Dragon you can play any monsters that have the word Dragon, White, etc in the name too.
There's some conditions on how you play your DM but the short of it is that you can summon them via their normal methods except for activated effects because you cannot activate the effects of the card. Note, something like cyber dragon is an inherit summon which is permitted as it does not activate.
https://www.domainformat.com/
They have tools on this page to help validate decks or you can feed it a card and it will tell you all the domains a card has.
There is some minor rule changes about how some cards work that refer to opponents which is a learning curve.
>ISSUES
Every card is legal because they're a bunch of bitches and don't have enough spine to address any potential problems in the format.
It started to gain traction about a year ago but then somebody who was a source of unofficial tutorial videos for the format went schizo and it poisoned the well. Scaring off normies. Didn't help that he looks like a living basedjak either.

Why's that?
>>

Bandai treat TCGs as a pump-and-dump scheme. It does not matter how much money it makes them. They will inevitably stop supporting it for no particular reason some day. The only potential outlier is the One Piece TCG, but that's a TCG for an ongoing, insanely-popular franchise.
>>
>>98582984
They're notorious in the industry for making card games and killing them out of the blue. They launch so many of them just to see what sticks. OP and Digi seem to be holding strong but digi just swapped the director(?) of the game and it's a little bit of a red flag and has some people worried especially after their recent banlist being pretty tonedeaf.
The other issue is that the games often feel second to the property they're tied to. Being treated more like cardboard merch than a game causing issues with actually retaining people aka retaining sales figures.
Naruto TCG was already tried by bandi too about a decade ago and I would say we are pretty past it's prime as a series. I think they just want to try and cash in on a very narrow window of artificial hype that was made by investorbros but I think they're gonna miss it and the game will just flop.

Digimon's biggest problem is that they release sets too fast. BT26 just came out and EX12 comes out in October.

Who? If he really did have a meltdown, i want to watch it for a laugh.

"yugioh commander"
To save you the time, and spoiler because this shit has nothing to do with yugioh.
He likely tried to leverage the wave of attention the format was getting to whine about trannies and how much he wants to suck right wing grifter dick. All the most surface level shit while trying to pretend like he's some deep, insightful paragon.
He could have used it to springboard his channel into something but decided that torpedoing himself was the better play.
And as you can see from all the "based and le epic" crowd he attracted with that pivot it went really well. Not even 400 views on his most recent video that's now 5 months old and his streams bringing in less than 100 views on average. lol lmao

So what's stopping you from just making the Invoked fusion with every attribute except LIGHT printed on it to nearly bypass the entire Domain mechanic?
>>
>>98586102
That and something like dark doriado are the domain format equivalent of MTG's WUBRG (all colors) commanders. So yes you in theory can play whatever slop pile you want.

You're not the first to think of it but you're another person who will learn it's also not that great because of the consistency issues. Because I just wanted to cover the major mechanic in that post there is more deck building restrictions that make it more like commander. Deck building is:
>singleton/highlander so max copies is 1x on everything (DM counts towards that)
>main decks are 60 cards exactly
>extra deck is the usual 15 or less
>the domain rules
In practice what you'll find is that most people play a critical card like a starter as their DM (or in recent developments sometimes a critical ED monster ironically because of the invoked ED ripper so it can't be ripped) so that way you have it through your inconsistent MD. What you're relying on is that you hope to find a one card starter and it resolving. Issue is that you're also looking at 3x the opponents who can have handtraps such as imperm, the dominus cards, etc. Though it should be said that they are also harder to find because they're all at 1x.
Here's an "interesting" slop pile I saw recently. https://ygoprodeck.com/deck/invoked-elysium-tearlaments-ishizu-bystial-fiendsmith-563087
I'm not going to pretend like I would be thrilled to see this across from me but it's interesting to see what you can cram in a deck. I do hint to this with one of my issues I said before where the format has some problem cards and they just turn a blind eye to that issue. IMO if you want to do a quick and dirty balance change just use the TCG banned and limited sections as a banlist. It eliminates a bunch of floodgates and other general problem cards.
>>
>>98586102
Nothing, save for the fact that the card itself is not good.

>3 purulia, 2 meowls, 2 nibiru, 3 droplet/impermanence, 2 lightning storm and 1 harpie's feather duster in the side deck, always
Sometimes i feel like a retard for building new decks around these cards instead of the other way around, but the game nowadays is simply unplayable without them, even at a casual level.

How come Yugioh player has so many criminals? The one lgs near me that hosted Yugioh had to deal with a break-in stealing a lot of Yugioh product.
>>
>>98591699
Yugioh is almost purpose-bred to appeal to and inspire selfish and antisocial behavior. Stun, combo solitaire into omni-negates, fragile petdeck that dies to a single Ash, no matter what you play you're ruining someone's day and making them hate other players yet develop an addictive need for one more duel that isn't like that awful last one. The playerbase will defend problem cards entirely on the basis that it doesn't affect them personally or because they stand to benefit from abusing it: case in point, I've met people who justified Mystic Mine for "accomplishing in 1 turn what solitaire players would waste my time accomplishing".

Konami seems to have imbued this game with the sum of their soulless corporate bugman nature, and anyone who wasn't scared off by some arbitrary marker of power creep (like Xyz, Pends, Links, etc) is someone who, deep down, likes the state of the game as is no matter how much they complain about it. They only complain because of their own personal inconveniences.

The main demographic is at least 70% brown; mutts, spics, niggers, mudslimes, etc, you want to avoid interacting with people like this, you play magic because pokemon is even worse about theft, people fucking rob whole trucks full of pikachu cards to resell at 5x the msrp.

Unfortunately magic isn't completely free of undesirables either, at least half of its audience is male to female transgender, and the few heterosexual white guys who play are mostly unfriendly (and low functioning autistic, but that goes without saying).
>what about [other card game]
Same shit, i'd say digimon is pretty much the only good franchise since it's full of shameless fan service, but that game is also mostly dead in the west. You'll get one game a month if you're lucky.
>>
>>98591699
All the above speculation is bullshit. Go on real and tangible evidence like the general demographic of your area (generally the poverty level) or the security footage from the store.
I'd say I've heard more crime around pokemon (namely assault and theft) than any other game but we're not proposing stupid bullshit reasons like "uhhh, the game has team rocket who in lore steals things! And the game makes you anti social because it's solitare!" That sounds stupid.
On top of that the race angle doesn't hold up because we have plenty of videos and photos of who's doing all this in pokemon and it's near entirely ~30y/o fat white guys.

Considering that we are unironically in a format where Ash Blossom is too weak because decks are able to just bruteforce through the negate? Where an extremely small number of new archetypes being printed have omni-negates printed on their monsters? The two strongest going-second cards are going-second twice-per-turn deepdraw and do-it-until-it-resolves match-their-advantage? Yes, I would say that "inflation" is going in the opposite direction.

I have tons of Yu-Gi-Oh cards but Ive never actually played a single game of Yugioh cause I dont have any friends that play Yugioh and im too shy to go to locals without knowing anyone. I just built a Summoned Skull deck thats pretty cool.
