Totally fine. We hit on the same depending on orders/cover, lasguns still wound on 5's, plasma still wounds on 3's, they still punch us on 3's, etc. Most thing don't change.

The rogal dorn's autocannons and s9 in general now wound on 3's instead of 2's, but that's whatever. Heavy bolters and s5 in general now wound on 4's instead of 3's, which is a bit more important. So a few things of note did change, including the Dorn in particular which is no longer quite the marine mulcher it once was (but it's still good at it).

But given that marines will have a points cost increase across the board to make up for their increased stats, I'm not worried at all. Marines are already one of the better armies with several favorable rules interactions (leadership, transports, sheer volume of options leads to interactions) and that's not going to change.

Besides the dorn, those models are 20 years old. Those are some of my very first models from when I started playing around 2006. As a total noob to painting, I thought doing the home made snow flock with elmer's glue, water, and baking soda was cool and I was a real wargamer making my own bases/tank details.

I could easily strip them, but these alongside a box of metal sisters in my closet are my very first models, so it's nostalgia keeping these old ass paint jobs from when I was a wee lad.

>The Logos Historica Verita is a new governmental department of Roboute Guilliman's reformed Imperium. Roboute Guilliman awoke in late M41 to find that the Imperium's 10,000 year history was catalogued in an extremely unreliable, secretive, and often contradictory fashion. He created the Logos as a means to rectify this problem and create the first true reliable history of the Imperium.[1]

>The Logos is made up of hundreds of skilled scholars and historians, hand-picked by Guilliman, and chosen for their more liberal views of historiography. The Logos' objectives and policies stand in stark contrast to the Ordo Chronos, which has turned to violence in response to Guilliman's reformations.

Same with the land raider. You will see an updated kit before you ever see it squatted.

What should I do with the base? Standard earth and grass? Savannah? Sand?

Also post models I guess.

Oh the super wide models that use up too much space on the table.
Like for example this models are the same idea, human with wings. One is a bitch to play on the table with its spread open wings while the other is big but still mostly contained within its base.

I really dislike how models being so enormous means that terrain and map layouts have to be designed around them navigating the place, but I guess that's just how it is.

what is weird is that the model on the right was released for the 3rd ed of the game and it looks and feels a lot like the chaos warriors/knights of the 2nd ed, but at the very same time GW also released all new warriors and chosen for the 3rd ed which had a different look overall

I don't usually don't post here any more either but I came back because I remember all the old threads back in 8th edition. Everyone knew these changes were happening. most of what got cut was slop

>Tactical Squad still has proxy rules. people have had a decade to prepare.
>Devastator Squad still has proxy rules and became the Desolation squad and hellblasters
>Suppressor Squad was slop they gave up on making into a multipart kit, now counts as a cooler looking version of inceptors
>Pedro Kantor was one of the last finecast era models iirc and will probably get replaced
>Uriel Ventris has been replaced by titus in lore

>Centurions are gone, like most people wished they were
>dreadnoughts have been replaced with 3 different flavors of dreadnought
>Razorbacks, predators, vindicators, etc were all replaced with new heavy tanks
>space marine flyers hadn't been given competitive points or rules for multiple editions- GW is really pivoting away from aircraft and it's been pretty good for the game overall
> RIP Hammerfall Bunker but GW is undoing their error of making terrain slop. Noctilith crown is next.

I think something like that has already happened with the Armageddon box having some firstborn callback designs.
For whatever reason very few cared about using the space wolf blood claw and grey hunter parts for “jury rigged primaris armor” until now.

But I can see GW coming out with “ultimaris” space marines eventually making the primaris obsolete.

I've considered a Gloomspite Gitz, Seraphon, or Nighthaunt army on occasion just to build and paint, even though none of my friend group play AoS. Naturally, the game has its share of stinker models, especially in the human factions, but the designers seem to have much more leeway when it comes to design. It also seems to help that Stormcast, as much as GW wants them to be AoS Space Marines, tend not to hog the spotlight nearly as much as their 40k counterparts.

Lot of people started 40k when manlets were the only thing around. So lot of it partly due to nostalgia.
People will tend to fondly look back at their childhood.

It's like how people can't really agree on what is the best 40k edition.
The best 40k edition to any person is going to be the one they started with as a child.

This. ToW looked to me more like an attempt to appeal to newfags who want to pretend they're WHFB oldfags. Brets and TK were both very neglected armies with Empire and VC eating up all the attention for human armies and zombies respectively, also leading to lack of support for those two. The opening base roster was a joke, I took it for a prank when I first saw it. I get they planned on adding other armies later but neglecting some of the more popular armies and having Brets and TK? If this was 40k, that'd be like 40k got ETed then years later started doing an all xenos, no marine subgame. I knew it wasn't for WHFB oldfags except the most niche.

AoS sculpts are all over the place. Some are the result of GW just sitting a faction out and never touching it again, some are over designed trash, and some are absolute gems.
You can look at the not slayers, the not tomb kings, and harbinger of decay for examples of each of those.
Rules wise, Chaos is the only one I’m familiar with, and it outright feels better than its 40k equivalent. GW treats Chaos in 40K as one big mono-faction while also splitting it into a bunch of distinct ones that aren’t allowed any crossover, leaving several sub-factions with barely any choices meanwhile pretty much all the Ao’s chaos factions actually have fleshed out ranges and slotting them into each other was at least pretty easy last I checked.

One thing about AoS is the setting allows for crazier stuff in WHFB or 40k. They're also not at the same level of risking pissing off huge chunks of a large community a la Primaris. Old World legends armies outside of pretty much just the skaven are pretty playable. Older tourney fag data, but I mean picrel is several of the legends armies preforming ar or above the level of the main factions while having pretty solid rule support.
That and TOW really isn’t infantry brick spam. At launch especially it was cav and big monster spam. Big infantry bricks where kind of a bad idea.

Did you seriously miss the last decade of loud bitching and demands for the the return of those two armies? I don't know about GW not actively supporting those other armies (since they aren't even bad) but it's silly to act like there wasn't a large amount of demand to bring them back for years on end.
>>
>>98565621
If you release certain armies like dark elves, vampire counts, ogres, then you actually kinda lost out on sales because people who would be interested in those armies would never consider their alternative counter parts like wood elves, tomb kings, and bretonians.
>>
>>98565606
That's good for them. I recall the small time AoS had Brets and TK they were surprisingly strong too, the Bret peasant archers had a rule simulating a ton of them firing at once thus a ton of attacks.

Nah that's literally over a year ago in the meta. Right now Cathay, Vampires and Beastmen are top tier meta.

Also TOW isn't like 40k. Just because an army isn't a " Core " faction doesn't mean they are not allowed. Tournaments allow all " Legend " armies to play normally across the world. Only 40k really listens to GW as to what is and isn't allowed.

Most of that is the direct result of Games Workshop’s own self-destructive policy on what is and isn’t allowed to be cross-compatible.
>Empire, Dwarfs, and Elves go into The Old World
>Age of Sigmar immediately dumps them into Legends
>Beastmen appear in The Old World
>Beasts of Chaos get functional rules… then explode and die in AoS
>Warriors of Chaos go to The Old World
>Almost their entire old range is either squatted or updated outside of (I think) one chariot
Under GW’s own rules, if a faction is fully supported in one game, it isn’t allowed to exist in the other. Follow that logic all the way and if they ever brought every classic Fantasy faction back at once, AoS would have to lose a significant chunk of its own armies.
You can already see them actively pushing the ranges toward zero cross-compatibility so they can eventually sell the old Fantasy armies again while keeping a completely separate AoS range.
Remember the start of 10th edition, when GW rug pulled everyone who had bought plastic Heresy kits that were actively advertised as usable in 40k and this also included old Forge World units that originally started as 40k models, like the daemon engines and the Siege of Vraks tanks?
>>
>>98565573
GW exceptionally blind yet easily influenced at the same time. I really dislike how the ToW roster included some of the lesser popular factions. Now don't get me wrong, I like TK, but I know they aren't what most of the players want because they were heavily neglected because Vampires ate all their attention no different than how Empire ate up all of Bretonnia's. They and Bretonnia are far from as popular as factions left out like especially Dark Elves and don't get me started on how neglected Beastmen were. I laughed when I saw pic released because I thought it was a joke too.

IN an alternative timeline where ET never happened and pic was shown as a 9th edition starter, you'd either get tons of anger from more players than happy, or you'd get "They'll release X army more popular than starting armies later" level cope. Anyone here played fighting games? This would be a shitty base roster bad enough to DECREASE sales among hardcore fans. So who's it trying to please? If I had to guess, it'd be the retractive fakegrog I see on forums trying to talk up factions like TK and Brets Just like how fighting game communities have "fans" talking about how great characters nobody liked and were rightfully removed were. If that kind of crowd can influence GW, then everything is fucked beyond repair for the whole company.

People need to understand that the issue with legends isn't being banned from using them, but that once a unit is in legends it gets completely ignored with dogshit rules for years until someday it might just get deleted for good like it happened to half the AoS factions or the FW variant army lists like Lost and the Damned or Tyrant's Legion in 40k.

That’s probably just straight up where Heresy is headed at this point.
>Heresy 3.0 functionally died in the womb after pissing everyone off.
>GW now has an ever growing pile of old sculpts they’re just sitting on.
>The Heresy narrative was already drifting toward the Scouring anyway.
>The Old World already proved you can sell people their old models (or the ones they missed the first time around).
>Heresy always had people wanting support for Xenos and Chaos corruption better represented
>Meanwhile, a lot of 40K players are getting tired of the simplified rules and want something closer to pre-8th edition.
They could pretty easily just drop the Heresy from the title and rebrand it as The Age of Darkness, and expand the timeline from the Drop Site Massacre to some arbitrary point in 40K before the modern ranges stars show up. That’s an easy slam dunk. Modern 40K can keep doing whatever the fuck it’s doing, and you get to sell the old 40K models back to people.

legends rules are designed for the the boomers who really want to play their 20-30 year old army. But you can't actively develop rules around them and keep the active meta balanced. They aren't supposed to have active rules and are generally supposed to be sub par so if something they can do gets broken by something new that releases it doesn't ruin your local fluffy casual scene.
>>
>>98565767
They kind of half heartedly tried very early on in AoS by saying some dumb shit time dilation stuff warp fuckery don’t think about it was happening so armies from the old world world literally just randomly materialize, fight a battle, and fuck off back to the old world. That was the lazy lore explanation for old units and characters having rules and showing up.
>>

40k currently is like the worst of both worlds. Because while the core rules are painfully dumbed down and streamlined. There are so many stratagems and unit abilities and shit that it's more complex than pre 8th in the worst way possible.

Pre 8th, you had to learn the crunchy core rules, and you were good to go like 90% of the way. Now you can learn the core rules and you're like 10% of the way to playing competitively because of all the shit they put on top. I would like a return to the reverse. People got sick of edition churn for a system that really didn’t need it, change for the sake of change, and some pretty aggressive anti hobby attempts early on with GW trying to squat a bunch of units and options day zero which was basically asking people to butcher or shelve very expensive resin models.
This was a panic patch GW put out once people got pissed they were basically telling them to throw away thousands of dollars worth of models. At one point it was getting new stuff in real time as people called them out.

Horus Heresy 3.0 completely killed the game in my country (Central Europe). Straight up even in the capital there is no active scene anymore.

For context, wargaming is so popular here there are very active MESBG communities and tournaments every month for Middle Earth in my city. HH 3.0 completely strangled it country wide.
>>
>>98565845
NTA but I've seen many a game go more asshole than necessary because their community is more tolerant to abuse. In some gacha games, there are companies who implement more anti-consumer features in their more popular titles or fail to implement basic QoL changes which were already in their earlier and less popular titles, because they know the more popular's consumers are piggies and whatever lost players is still more than enough. Meanwhile the less popular title ahs to struggle more.
TLDR: We need better standards and to be less tolerant to GW bullying
>>
>>98565772

From what I've heard, GW doesn't have the spare production capacity to be making a bunch of new lines. Its why they keep sending mediocre-selling models to Legends. They already invested all of the money up-front in design and molds, so if they could, keeping the lines running is free money. But the way their production is bottlenecked right now, the opportunity cost is too great.

I am telling you we need to adopt the Fantasy/TOW communities sensibilities. GW says something is " Legends " only? Ok we will ignore you and allow them at every tournament. GW refuses to update rules for something in Legends? Ok we will make our own rules and use global community consensus to adopt and integrate them into the tournament scene.

This whole situation is like international law. It only exists if enough people believe it does. If people realize they aren't beholden to GW at the end of the day, and that they can take control, GW loses all its grip over the 40k community.
>>
>>98565852
>as you can see from the thread people generally see 7th as a mixed bag.

What I meant when I said they're one and the same is that they're literally one and the same because gullimans return was a major part of the gathering storm storyline so trying to split them up arbitrarily is pointless.

Did the Cathay mean warhammer fantasy has a much bigger following in East Asia now?
Also the feet memes got to me and I had to check the foot of that art piece. There’s a lot of artistic focus on those feet.

For all its faults, 40K is at least decently supported. It has the Legends system, which is where most of the no-longer-supported units end up (and hopefully don’t just vanish an edition later). The stuff that actually loses support entirely is mostly limited to Forge World characters, a few vehicles that were alternate builds, some weird army restrictions like Chaos not being able to take certain vehicles they should still have access to, and Renegades & Heretics in the modern era.
Heresy, on the other hand, was actively trying to strip out a mountain of units and options with no real solution beyond “fuck you, buy the new thing whenever we finally get around to making it in a few years.”

I am very blessed to have recently moved to this country from North America. In my city in NA, it was mostly 40k meta shit with some AOS and TOW.

Here there are people playing 40k, TOW, AOS, Bolt Action, Star Wars, MESBG, Conquest, With Fire and Sword and others. Europe is the place to be for wargaming.
>>

For some reason I guessed Poland, I know some chums from there.

Not being bitter, merely realistic. A simple fine means nothing to a multibillion dollar company.
When the consequences for breaking the law doesn't harm the perpetrator, then they have no real motivation to follow the law.
And this is talking about 40k because it is james we are discussing here. They will fuck anything and everything between them and more profit and that has been effecting 40k for most of my life.
>>
>>98565877
True enough about how a big enough reaction from their biggest community would drive a response. But the 40k community is, lack of a better description, somewhere between a well trained animal and an abused housewife. GW smacks the player in the face, the player makes excuses and keeps on coming back.
>>
If you play space marines or orks, you're gay
>>
>>98565772
GW won't do this because it won't sell as much as you'd think, and also they lack the production capacity for this shit.

>>
>>98565826
I keep saying that CSM is probably the best way to play with old marines.
It's not perfect, but you lose less units than playing with loyalist rules at this point. You also get access to HH units to cover things like the Whirlwind.
>>

There probably isnt a less gay player in the fanbase than an ork player. for years they have been shitty outside of a couple very specific competitive lists. Most ork players play because they love painting funny little gitz and their fun during games come from the strange events their rolls and charges are able to create.

Be thankful they didn't. They would have twisted the point Tolkien was trying to make of a critique on industrialization, replacement of traditionalism, atomization of the community, immigration, and "progress", into a critique of "lol authoritarianism bad" and some other such nonsense.
>>
>>98565767
According to the Alan Merret interview with JordanSorcery, they were playing around with the idea of the realms for quite some time but never managed to really fit it in somewhere. Whfb was doing badly for a number of years, and they never quite managed to turn things around despite trying pretty hard (at least according to alan). So, they decided they needed a big reset and decided to use the realm idea after all.
>>

NTA, but it kind of feels like 40K is heading that way in general.
The app is going to start including legends units (probably in a sub-tab or very clearly marked so they stand out as a separate option). Meanwhile, GW is running out of things to update in the main ranges which is always a reliable cash boost they want. Looking at the ranges that are still predominantly old models, what’s left? Grey Knights, Thousand Sons, and Dark Eldar. That’s it one semi-large Chaos faction, a relatively unpopular faction, and a side grade Marine faction. Not exactly a deep well.
There are still a couple of easy wins left, like Dark Mechanicum, but how do you keep people buying into the other armies? You dig into the backlog of old units, update them, and sell them especially when those units just happen to be the only way certain playstyles work.
>Orks don’t have tanks? Oh look, some new plastic grot tanks and a Kill Tank.
>World Eaters tired of having about a quarter of a faction? Looky here, some nice daemon engines in plastic just for you.
>Guard need a reason to spend money? Oh shit, some of those tanks you remember from the Siege of Vraks, now in plastic buy buy buy!
>Need to milk the Marine players again? What’s that behind my hand… ah, shit son, it’s a new Boxnought. You like the Boxnought, right?

Even if they aren’t formally “allowing” Legends units, GW is probably going to end up bringing the bulk of them back eventually outside of the really weird ones that nobody remembers.
>>
>Regular Rhino is last chance to buy despite not being squatted
>Sister and Chaos Rhinos are not
So will Rhino get a new sculpt when the codex launches? Or will Space Marine players who want a Rhino need to buy a Chaos Rhino and need to source a Hunter Killer Missile from somewhere? Or is this because the current Rhino kit is a Razorback/Rhino and they will release Rhino on it's own once again.

I also see that the boxnaught also got squatted with Space Marines. But that kit is also not last chance to buy and probably only because of Grey Knights. Heck the current Grey Knight combat patrol even includes one and they didn't unlist that.
>>
Star Wars Legion would make me interested if they had the content I want.
>>
>>98565873
Man I remember my first games of Warhammer 40k being just "bring all the stuff you have"

I would lose 100% time if I began my turn first since the only thing in my entire army that could hurt my friends Stormfang was my landspeeder. And he would destroy it turn 1. And then that piece of shit would table me turn 2.

>>98565957
>a relatively unpopular faction
interjection but it's hard to keep popularity through 15 years of combo boxes containing ever the same units, there is nothing new to buy. No succubuss is not new as everyone just yassified an archon or spare wych to make a succubus before. Outside of that its been taking stuff out of metal to resin to plastic and cutting down on models from 5th ed refresh. So only cuts for close to 15 years - tell me if any marine faction would survive getting flayed without actual new releases.
>>
I don't even think it's a hot take any more but it baffles me how Protoss are just flat out cooler and better than Eldar. How does GW manage to fuck up a concept as novel and clean cut as "Elf Wizards in Space"?
>>
With termies going to T6 I REALLY hope gravis stays at T6 too. It made no sense for gravis to be tougher. It should be the same toughness, worse save, better move.
>>
>>98565975
A massive shift really. Bretonnia's past versions included being a HYW France, overdosing really hard on Monty Python to the point of being a cereal box Arthurian, and grimderp mudcore to the max. Let's just say Stillman changed a lot and so did later writers.

Very amusing that Dark Eldar has the same number of kits now they launched with in 3rd edition. I don't know how you guys put up with it. Faction seems a pain in the ass to actually play too.
>>
>>98565958
I assume rhinos are just going away as a loyalist option.
From a design perspective the rhino is leagues beyond the ugly hover shit, but from a game design perspective loyalist marines have a ton of transport options when most factions have like one dedicated transport and a couple vehicles that maybe have transport capacity.
As far as if you wanted a rhino the heresy one is probably the best pick. It doesn’t have the razorback parts, but it’s a much better kit overall and comes with a vehicle upgrade sprue that includes the hunter killer missile.
>>
>>98565991
Protoss aren't really Elves at all. They're an ancient long lived high tech race but their caste system is more Tau than Eldar. Even in gameplay, Protoss are closer to Marines or especially Custodes in high individual power including defense, low numbers compared to Zerg high number, crap individual ability, and Eldar glass cannons.

With a lot of factions in fantasy, they tried turning them into discount 40k which made them lose thier identity. Wood elves, Brets, and vampires are all arguably the worst examples of this. I would like to say tomb kings too but they dont have an identity to begin with. Of course this all happened with 6th edition.
>>
>>98566004
I'm pretty sure the Deimos Rhino won't doesn't include the Hunter Killer Missile. So unless they relist the regular Rhino on it's own without the Razorback parts the only way to get a Rhino with all weapons for SM players (Rhino wasn't added to legends) is to buy the sister Rhino but use the regular Rhino front end. But your missile launcher and stormbolter would awkwardly have Sister logos.

Can they not also just release limited runs of alternate sculpts of popular models/kits? I'm sure they have a ton of sculpts that never made it into production for one reason or another. Do they still do their made to order stuff? They could just make "classic" style kits. For example I'd buy old school style aspect warriors in modern posses and plastic, for example the 3e Banshees are just straight up cooler than the 'modern' 4e design. Or 3e Scorpions and Fire Dragons...
You don't think 'truescale' firstborns with codex compliant loadouts wouldn't sell out the first day?

They have LOTS of room to make money and sell people the same models they already have. People like to feel special with their kitbashed, rare model, or printed stuff. There's a market for it. What does it actually cost them to make moulds?

Putting every special weapon in a kabalite squad because they're "free" did take me off guard. Trying to idiot-proof the high speed finesse faction is a decision.

All the plastic Heresy marine vehicles have pic rel in the box as an upgrade set. The hunter killer is part of it.

>Legion Rhino Transport is armed with two pintle-mounted bolters, and can be further customised with a range of weapons and utility gear. This kit includes the components to add a pintle-mounted havoc launcher, heavy bolter, heavy flamer, multi-melta, or a combi-weapon with five configurations (bolter, flamer, melta, plasma, or volkite), as well as a searchlight, a dozer blade, and a hunter-killer missile. It also offers a number of cosmetic options, such as towing hooks and a choice of a Space Marine gunner, spotter, or closed hatch.

And knowing is half the battle

Like look. Loyalist Vindicator is last chance to buy Chaos is not. Same thing with the other ones. The Chaos ones will be produced at least until the launch of the Codex. >>
>>98566073
Well I play GK, Sisters and Daemons.

One of my armies almost got completely squatted but I guess is now in a pretty good spot. One of my armies lost half their characters last edition and now will lose most of their vehicles. And last of my armies might actually get squatted because GW hates crosscompatibility.

Actual molds are expensive as fuck for plastic kits and they do have to eat up time being set up and actually printing meaning something else can’t be produced.
>An industrial steel injection mold to manufacture a professional plastic model kit costs between $10,000 and $150,000+ per kit

Which is probably a big selling point to GW to put old stuff back in production since that’s free money outside of opportunity cost of printing something else if they have done maintenance and maintained the mold

Sisters is a success story of breaking GW’s vicious cycle of “we don’t support the range because no one buys from it and because no one buys from it we won’t support it”. Daemons is really annoying because the cross compatibility hate is so visible. Daemons on the table looked “unified” in an appropriately chaotic way in that you could easily discern units and their roles. Individual parts of a whole tapestry to make a functioning army, if you will.
>>
its weird how happy i am to see the squattening.
>>
>>98566090
A lot of the older molds are have CQ issues.
The banebalde has a bad warp on its front plate, the Russ has warped sides, and the grots have really really bad mold line issues to the point some of their details are unreadable. Late FW was having bad issues to.

>>

>>
>>98566004
I don't think that this will be the case. why not make a kit you can sell to multiple factions?

that being said, GW has made an earnest attempt post 8th edition to give factions their own clear design language and that is most clearly defined in how they get around. SM get the hovertech now for the most part.

FW did, before making them all 30k. GW did give plastic cataphractii and tartaros 40k rules for a while. Then reduced them to a single entry with identical stats to regular terminators (just some special options to reflect the kits).
>>
>>98566089
It’s going to be hilarious if they try to make a Primaris successor by just slapping a massive gun onto a hover platform that would send the whole thing flying backwards the second it fired. And because GW can’t help themselves, they’ll load it up with a dozen stubbers, heavy bolters, lascannons, and probably a turret on top for good measure.
