Hello everyone,

I saw that there was a rules update. About 2 years ago a friend gifted me a combat patrol for my birthday since I had expressed interest and regrettably I still haven’t been able to get around to completing it or getting into tabletop as much as I wanted.

I saw a lot of units are getting moved into legacy and was wondering if anything in the box I have is going to be staying relevant or if it’s all being rotated.

I apologize for my lack of research.

I believe the contents are as follows

1x Primaris Librarian
3x Aggressors
5x Incursors (can alternatively be built as Infiltrators)
5x Intercessors
1x Impulsor

I'm totally new to this, so bear with me. My painting skills are hot ass, so I figured I'd learn on something cheap. I then realized that most of the "official" models cost a kidney. Will people and my LGS try to murder me if I play with 3D printed models instead?

I honestly don’t get it. much of the justification behind neglecting certain ranges and high prices is because of how much mold injections cost to create, but then they make these massive fuck off sprues for terrain they’ll shove in a box and never again. what is the economic reason for this?

pinup male dragon goblin from KDM probably. Either that or the Ciel Phantomhive statuette. I was tempted to get the Eiden statue with his cock out or the Vlad-kun DX by HOTVENUS but I'm instead gonna pray they eventually do an Aster statuette or ZeroERA comes out, blows up and gets figs.
However, one day I will get a Lionel Johnson because I think he's cool as hell and when that day comes he will be unequivocally the gayest model I own in perpetuity.

The army posters are here to actually talk about the game and hobby and just happen to also have a ritual post. The coomer ritual posters are just here for that coomer post and baiting others to post similar content.
>>
>>98573902
People? No.
Watch out for the ratmen though
>>
>>98573915
Terrain probably doesn't actually require the super expensive kinds of molds because it doesn't have a lot of undercuts or as many gates. They might also be able to get away with using a slightly cheaper grade of plastic because it doesn't have to hold as sharp or fine of details as the models. But if that is the case, they probably have limited machines that they can dedicate to terrain at a time and every time they add a new one they have to remove the molds of an old one and put it in storage. Essentially, you can assume they have something like 16 grade-a injection molding lines and maybe four grade-b injection molding lines on the factory floor active at a time.
>>
>>98573902
Some LGS are pro-printing, some are very anti-printing. GW branded stores (the ones that say "Warhammer" on the wall outside) will not let you play anything but official GW plastic.
Just go in and ask them before doing it if they aren't clear with a sign stating their policy (and aren't a GW store).
If they sell printing supplies, they're probably fine with printed minis.

>learn on something cheap
Acrylic paints are able to be stripped by soaking in rubbing alcohol and then scrubbing off with a toothbrush. It doesn't damage the polystyrene model at all.
Buy a cheap unit in whatever army you're interested in, and build skill on them. If you fucked up too bad, just soak in alcohol and scrub it off, then paint it again with the knowledge you gained.
The only person who has to see your mistakes is you.
>>
I have a plastic drybrush pallet, one of those textured bits of plastic from greenworld or w/e

Should this thing be washed cleaned between each use or is it fine to leave the paint on it?
>>

You don’t own a single Warhammer related product
>>
>>98573932
See, I'd buy that as an argument if the old ruins, bastions, and Fortress of Redemption weren't around forever. The Sector Imperialis range was only around for something like three years.
>>
>>98573945
The only concern I'd have above leaving it with paint crusted over on it is inadvertently picking up flecks of old paint with fresh paint and having that get stuck onto models.
>>
>>98573948
That could very easily be related to stock that they were holding on to for many years and not necessarily ongoing production.
>>
>>98573932

If you don't care what the mini is, GW does a free model every month you could grab and use as practice.
>>
>>98573935
and if you have any old metal minis, you can dunk them straight in a small jar of solvent like acetone and strip them bare of paint in minutes. Just don't do it to plastic or resin.
>>
>>98573982
Berserks are the second worst model in the votann range. Trying to do Slayers in space but also not actually doing it properly. I wish they'd cull most of the viking/scandi imagery from the Votann and get rid of the Slayers. Would improve them SO MUCH

GW stores have a free mini they rotate each month, go into the store and ask for it and use that for painting practice. I grab one every time i got to get paints. They're useful for practice because who cares if you fuck it up when it was free.

That's all totally fine. and even pretty good stuff rules wise. The primaris stuff is not going to legends any time soon, it took 20 years for some of the recent stuff to be moved so really don't worry. you can use legends stuff any time your opponent says sure anyway, and even the older stuff is often used as proxies for the new stuff so your model can find uses.

there is an exception, which is suppressors, but those were weird and unpopular anyway. and even they are officially proxies for incursors.

Anon's, I need help deciding on a 3rd army. I like playing with smaller point sized so I have a Storm Lords/ White Scars army on the go that are all about bikes, flying speeders, etc. I have a Crimson Fist army on the go with a bunch of gravis and termies for a heavy force, and plans to get a land raider because my fucking predator and vindicator are getting put behind the woodshed. But I want some advice on what a fun all rounder army could be, and would appreciate some recommendations on some chapters to pick from. I was leaning towards MM at the moment. Thanks anon's.

I have an idea that'll get me hired by GW: Every faction has space marines, specifically the intercessors. You just need 2 things
1)Buy space marine models
2)Buy upgrade sprue that adds the head of another faction (each faction head pack sold separatedly btw)
This way, you can glue an ork head on a marine and you got space marine ork, or glue a tyranid head and you got space marine tyranid, or glue a genestealer for the cults, or glue an eldar head/helmet for space marine elf.
>What about chaos
You get the option to play with the traitor legions wearing their pre-heresy colors, with the added bonus they are not chaos tainted either so you can have white and blue World eaters or red 1000sons or EC without the goon or clean Death Guard.
Bonus, you get a nurgling head for a space marine so you can imagine at least 20 of the goobers piloting astartes armor, or a daemonette with space marine armor and so on.
>>
>>98574170

You can... technically. But that's cheap dollar store paint. It's not made for mini painting & needs more thinning to be viable. Even then the finish & application are not good. It's fine for terrain but no the minis themselves. You should find a small hobby store that sells paints like vallejo or ak instead. Getting only the paints you absolutely want/need.

I've used apple barrel paints to paint some models before.

Its possible, but you need a lot of layers, since they usually have poor pigment densities and terrible coverage. some of them work okay though... they can work, but are not ideal. I prefer gw paints despite what the general says, But I have my share of AK and vallejo paints too.

>>
>>98574303
You can but actual acrylic thinner is better.
>>
>>98574311
no its not a different shade of color, its a specific type of paint that is much thinner.

>>98574317

>>
>>98574288

Hobby specific paints flow from your brush better and dry to a smoother finish than regular acrylics. They typically have a higher concentration of pigments due to being thin. I have a set of artist grade acrylics and those are barely serviceable compared to my AK gen 3 paints. You really don't need many paints at all. Red, blue, yellow, green, magenta/purple, brown, black, white. You can make most any other color with those paints using some color theory. Get those in a good miniature paint brand to start off with and get painting. Pick up other colors if you find yourself mixing a particular color/shade a lot, or make things easier (flesh color for example), or contrast stuff for slopchop painting.
>>
>>98574326
>chatgpt
Anon we're trying to help you but you're being stupid on purpose.
>>
>>98574325
I'd put them in the washing machine
>>
>>98574288
The advice of "don't buy GW" was likely given under an assumption you would seek out another kind of miniature paint like Scale 75 or AK. Now on a strictly technical level you can use literally any paint you want, even house paint if you want it may just have strange side effects and people's advice may not be applicable.
Shade paints for what its worth are usually very diluted paints that flow heavily and are mostly used to have it flow from the centre of a panel or section and settle in the recesses before the water evaporates to help create a sense of depth usually because it masks over the underlying paint colour without overwriting it causing a gradient of shading to mimic light and shadows.

It's less than 20 bucks for a tall thin bottle from AK. You'll use small drops at a time. That's nothing.

>>98574353
You're just going to have to find a good ratio between water and thinner yourself. Do some tests. Acrylic thinner/medium typically has binders and resins in it to help preserve the ability of the paint to stick and harden. Sometimes they have flow improvers or drying retarders too but IDK what your apple stuff is. If I have to thin something a bit I just use water. If I need it thinner I use medium/thinner along with water.

you should use this opportunity to practise your freehanding
>>
>>98574157
You can just focus on coloring in the lines and abandon complex highlighting like you see YouTubers do.
You can thin your paints.
But the biggest tip I can give you is that you almost certainly have too much paint on your brush. If you gotta mix colors fine so it, then rinse your brush to the wetness you want, and load up just a little bit of paint, then wipe most of it off on your hand.
If you’re getting thick gloopy paint, obviously you need to thin, but you also have too much.
If it’s spilling over onto the wrong part, obviously you need to work on your brush control, but you also have too much.
Too much paint is the bane of every noobie.

while I'll agree and say most people just spam shit that's good and don't give two shits about doctrine, I also think that you should lighten up and just let people play with their dudes.

Instead hold yourself accountable to making your own force org. and then make it work on the table top. that's how you get satisfaction with a faction. Tyranids are multiple different species, they're not genotypical clones with phenotypical differences, they have actual genotypical differences to each type of bioform

An-non they made Primaris so they could resell you your Space Marine army, I understand this. It's why they pushed Phobos heavy first before the "real" Primaris line rollout via Indomitus onwards.

Just like once they're done filling out the (Primaris character/armor excel anon post please) chart they're just going to reintroduce stand alone Firstborn" models to make you buy your models again.

The fact that it compartmentalizes and diversifies the unit selection for Video Game based properties is a big bonus though.

Anon who asked for sources here, I'm inclined to agree. I don't know exactly how the Omnitrix works, but if it just scans DNA it seems more likely it turns you into whatever nids are than the nid you scanned.
>>
>>98575375
>>98575387
Yes that's what different species are. They can be related from a point but still wildly different animals. You're also STILL arguing the WRONG point here. What I didn't consider is the Omnitrix scans sapient lifeforms. The tyranids on average have no sapience outside the hivemind controlling them. It also scans & restructures DNA for the strongest prime form of a species. So therefore the only answer is a Swarmlord as besides a Norn Queen it's the closest thing to an independent aware nid.

But I would be interested in how a modified, more lenient form of force org would sound

Everything can be improved, but a FOC is always better than not having one.

Most of them are either wrong or using the 8th and 9th edition FOCs as reference which nobody wants, so it's mostly in bad faith.

i don't think i know how to feel about each and every army needing to stem from a couple of infantry squads
there's some play on armies looking like armies sort of upheld with the mandate but at the same time who's to say that one's force needs to conform to such a template? far from characterful, potentially at least

i'd like it if spare FOC slots could be traded in at some ratio for opening up other ones elsewhere, maybe you subtract fast attacks for more heavy support or elites
but to entirely fill out the chart to the point that's actually a factor as opposed to a contrivance i think entails pretty massive games in the way of points values

doing away with it for the while is kind of cool and one's going to have an army of some form or another at the 2000pts bracket

FOC + Detachments has room to be really interesting. You could have the basic FOC, then allow Detachments to slightly modify it. Using the Ork codex as an example:
Kult of Speed gives -1 Elite, +1 FA.
Brute Bosses gives a third HQ slot.
Etc.

Also, Epic characters and big stuff could use multiple slots.
>>
>>98575584
but maybe someone wants to play panzer commander against your infantry brigade or somesuch
>>
>>98575588
Then you get your minimum troops and nothing else. Tanks need infantry support.
>>
>>98575592
what if the flavor of the scenario in mind is a tank column having to go without any manner of infantry screen?
>>
>>98575587
This would be the ideal IMO.
>>
>>98575579
I think monster mash Tyranids is a good example. Does a Kaiju list really need to have hormagaunts and termagants running around for lore reasons to "feel" like an alien menace? And if they could take Tyranid Warriors for the same effect anyway and still be very elite what's even the point?
Another example is Deathwing or Ravenwing Dark Angels. Them being an all Terminator or Bikes army is the lore regardless of gameplay experience and adding some basic intercessors to their list actively deviates from their identity.
>>
>>98575414
I like the weathering so far, but it's a little much on the barrel.
>>
>>98575595
If you're making up custom scenarios there's no need to follow a FOC in the first place my dude. That's out of the conversation.
>>
FOC sucks. It only existed to drive sales of tactical marine kits which had the highest profit margins. And to make every battle look the same.
>>
>>98575601
the lack of a FOC more or less allows these scenarios to be imposed freely into any manner of game would be the only thing i'd gesture at
so like, you roll up to the roleplay tournament with your all tank force or some shit and that's you're angle and you play the dynamic out against your opponents whether they like it or not and you explore the context of going without an infantry screen a few times over and that is the narrative framework of the army itself

>>
i go back, make a list with 3/4e in mind, at 2000pts it's going to be some manner of combined arms stuff or a very dense infantry horde of some manner i'd wager, pretty much without fail. cool and all, but as you fill things out up to a points bracket it can't all go in one basket so to speak. in the grand scheme of things and potentiall circumstance being explored this is more than a little bit of a contrivance especially with how wildly stuff differs in how it presents and what it is

i guess there's skew and then there's a specialist force in its narrative grounding and where the two overlap is going to probably be subjective

maybe i want my army to be three baneblades or entirely comprised of battlesuits
there's no real reason why such things couldn't be encountered in some armpit of the setting, and being explored in play
>>
>>98575634
You forget we're talking about standard play here where rules are needed to enforce a minimum of balance. You can ignore the FOC whenever you want if you feel like it but the restriction should be the baseline or else skew becomes the standard.
>>
>>98575516

Force Orgs are fine, as demonstrated by every other tabletop game using some form of it. The problem is that the classic one is designed for a game that has outgrown its foundations several decades ago and its nowhere near big or complex enough.

The ideal for me is to introduce multiple different, unique Force Orgs for each army with different units appearing in different places, but still using the classic Troop/FA/HS/Elite split. Then allow players to take multiple FOs provided they meet the minimum requirements for all of them. Maybe a new 'Auxiliary' slot thats essentially a free pick of any unit.
For example, a Guard Infantry Company obviously being built around mass infantry, with access to heavy weapons, stormtroopers, ogryns etc. You can take a couple of Russ, but if you want lots you'll need to take an Armour Company FO which has 2 mandatory Russ and a Tank Commander, but then allows more open access to the other tank options.

Its basically Detachments except each one has mandatory Troop/HQ selections and limiting which datasheets can be taken in each.

Pretty good effort put in, anon!
>I'm nitpicking here. You still did a good job.
Barrel could be drilled. It sounds easy, but for me getting the hole dead centre is nerve racking. I've failed a few times getting the barrel off centre.
There's a bit of a moudline on the leg. Try looking into nano glass cuticles and nano glass files. Gunpla fans use those for filing down cut plastic nibs.
I used Wargames Atlantic's nano glass files because I couldn't find a cheaper option on Canadian amazon. Maybe my searchfu is poor now.
But I've seen mention of dspiae files being good and an aliexpress screenshot of them being sold for cheap. Wish I knew about those sooner as I'm a penny pincher somehow in this hobby.
Please know that supposedly these glass files will be ruined from metal and may not work for resin. So hard plastic only for glass files.

As for the basing it looks too "rocky" in the sense that the ballast kind of belongs at a rubble pile rather than flat ground. Sand can work. I wouldn't throw the ballast away. Maybe use sand with some of that ballast sprinkled to be 'larger rocks' if that makes sense.

But all in all the above is just nitpicking. The model is still good.
You did a good job anon.

If well I am gonna be extra worried because it means GW truly has the ability to make good rules but just chooses not to for a myriad of reasons.

I don't care. I feel compelled to try and be helpful.

Try the free mini of the month thing. If you had fun then the hobby is for you and then you go get a 3D printer.
Then save your first mini through varnishing and then storing it. Like a chessex dice box or something similar from aliexpress.

Also don't fall into the trap I fell into with "practice models." It did not work on me and I didn't have fun with the practice models because I wanted to paint warhammer models instead. It wasn't fun. Buy the models you want to paint and don't be afraid of messing them up.

>11th seems to slowly be creeping psychic back in, does anyone think by 12th they could ever regain most of the flavour of 4th?
Probably not. I doubt we'll ever see a psychic phase again, but I can totally see them doing something like:
All Psychic powers are now actions
All Psychers can take an action even if its squad shoots.
It gives psychers a role, it makes them distinct and isn't obtrusive for armies without psychers.

Imagine if they got rid of howling banshees and wraithlords, or ork boyz and killa kans, or fire warriors and crisis battlesuits.
>>
>>98575811
the issue is that more people recognize Primaris more now, with firstborn "support" being pushed by grifters and outrage merchants
>>
>>98575800
People have very flawed memories of old editions or very specific anecdotal experience of only playing it against certain armies or near the beginning or end of the edition when they were vastly different. Like I literally only played 6th edition twice and had a horrible experience both times.
>>
>>98575813
>more people recognize Primaris more now
And that's a manufactured situation. They've spent the last 10 years actively hiding the classic units from every single marketing ahd promo material and giving them dogshit rules on purpose so people don't buy them for the game either. No one took terminators for 2 editions but the moment they started putting the new models everywhere and giving them better rules? Everyone has terminators. Same thing with land raiders.

I think it's literally just a case of GW making the best of their own VERY stupid situation. Like they must know how much this pisses people off, but ultimately they kinda made their beds with the whole primaris thing and they're slowly doing their best to reconcile them with the older range through stuff like giving intercessors more classic armor parts, refreshing terminators, letting primaris ride in rhinos now, etc. Obviously the older marine kits were never going to stick around forever - they only have so much production capacity and storage space, and time moves on, but they didn't need to make a whole new set of marine stuff when a simple kit refresh like what Eldar or CSM got would've been perfectly fine.

I think given enough time GW will eventually refresh the original marines and their vehicles, if for no other reason than to ride the wave of nostalgia for them. By the time it's all said and done there likely won't be a "primaris" or "firstborn" distinction anymore, and marines will just be marines with some primaris armor cues mixed in with firstborn ones and most of their old vehicles.
>>
>>98575854
>they're slowly doing their best to reconcile them with the older range

Pretty much. They're focusing on what's easiest for them and newer fans who make the vast majority of current players.

Never a good idea to shit on the old guard to pursue profit, but we'll see if it pays off in the long game.
>>
>>98575851
both, GWs old policy about rules was that you essentially had to play the game on both sides. Like if you took any normal list, and just tried to win. You could do very well, so you essentially had to throw the game and in turn your opponent would throw the game on their turn.

This is why you will see very old posts that say "if they bring X Y or Z then I'm gonna table him", the rules were just that flexible that you can decide to just win (or at the very least do very well) with any normal list.

This rules philosophy only works when both players are able to know the lists that well to understand what would one-shot what. As time passed, people got worse at the game because the very idea of "solving" the game was seen as WAAC, bringing max lascannons on devastators was seen as too good so you'd bring a tax heavy bolter etc etc.

With weakspots and hullpoints, they led to a lot of positioning gotchas that only came up when eiher player decided to try hard

I think I figured out why I prefer the firstborn boltguns and the bolt carbines over the bolt rifles.
It is because while they are big, by space marine standards they are compact close quarters guns.
This means that even in close combat a marine can still hold the firstborn boltgun like a pistol (not as well as a bolt pistol) but it would visually still not look like a comically long pistol when held in one hand to use a melee weapon in the other.

I'm pretty sure a cawl-godwyn boltgun STL has been made where it is just the firstborn boltgun with the cawl cylinder but I don't know of such an STL.

Sup anons,
I'm a returning player who hasn't touched the game since fifth edition and I'm trying to put together a 500/750pt list for my new blood angel army, are there any other oldfags in here who can give me some tips for basic listbuilding? I'm not looking for anything tournament winning, but between the new OC/objective play and the sheer volume of utterly alien SM units I'm facing some list paralysis, my models are just the Armageddon SMs + a furioso dreadnought, 5 infernus marines and 20 assault intercessors that I'm planning to convert to jump intercessors/death company/vanguard or something of the sort

Also, how is 3D printing these days? The quality (and affordability) of resin printing seems at the point now where it might just make sense to buy one and learn 3D modelling so that I can convert my own guys, instead of dicking around with millput and a sculpting knife, plus printing terrain could be pretty sweet, thoughts?
Also - what's the single coolest and single most cringe thing you think a player from 3rd-5th edition has missed? I've seen some pretty funny looking models while checking out the new catalogue, to say the least.

+++IMPERATOR CUSTODIT+++

Also what the fuck has happened to the captcha system on this shithole website, why am I being expected to perform spacial rotation puzzles in my head now, fuck you moot you absolute doublenigger
>>
>>98575979
They're a strong army and they also have fun gameplay teleporting around, but they're on the short list of armies that will probably get a refresh sometime in the near future, so collecting now is depending on how much you care about that. Their models are quite old.
>>
>>98575979
Their range is so old you're due for a refresh this edition. I wouldn't risk it.
>>
>>98575979
Honestly I would wait for a refresh. If you like the old models that's fine, more power to you, but they're due for some new kits within the next few years and their sculpts are really starting to show their age now, not to mention there's no telling what units GW might get rid of in the update to whatever new stuff they'll get. Obviously no one has any idea of WHEN it'll happen, but they're one of like, three armies that haven't been updated yet and GW is pushing hard to update all of their old ranges lately, so it's coming eventually.

Points cost will balance it is a simple statement of fact. Custodes are also an elite army with insane rules and stats, but they are balanced by being low model count and 300 points per unit. Marines are going to be a middle ground in between custodes and what they are now.

Now, custodes are one of the strongest armies in the game, so there's no guarantee that GW will get the balance right. But the concept of expensive elite army that is balanced by high points cost and low unit count is sound and exists already.

I just said that they are one of the strongest armies in the game and that GW isn't guarenteed to get the balance correct, and then I reiterated my point by explicitly saying that the *concept* of an elite army that is strong but balanced by low model count and high costs is sound.

I swear some of you people intentionally omit entire sections of a post in order to disagree and then end up saying the same thing. It's really weird.
>>
>>98576182
Honestly, the midriff kind of reminds me of the old power coils you'd find running up the likes of old mark six or seven power armour, without the visible ceramite plating underneath, but they are armoured. I think it's pretty solid if you like tacticool stuff, and if not smoothing it over with some putty and painting the resulting surface the same as your armour would fix it pretty easily.
Are these guys any good on the tabletop? I've been looking around and it seems like there's about twenty different variants of these stealth marines now.

I genuinely hate my cities GW store. It's one of those super commercial, "exclusive" stores, if you get what I'm saying. If you don't consistently spend money you get treated like you're less. If you aren't part of the (birderline insufferable) local group, you get treated like you're less.
Best example was just posted on their Facebook page. They celebrate their stores anniversary tomorrow. How, you might ask?
>You can watch a 14.000 points match.
You heard right, take time out of your day to watch two other blokes play a 14.000 point match which takes the entire fucking day I assume.
>You can spend money on pre-orders
>You can spend money on remaining stock
>You can spend money on goodies
>You can spend money on exclusive minis
That's literally it. No cake or free drinks, no nice athmosphere, decoration, raffles, anything. Just watch two paypiggies play and spend money. Great anniversary. Here is their exact Facebook post, translated in English, just so you know, I'm not making this shit up:
>[City name], let’s kick off the Warhammer [city name] store anniversary
Celebrate with us—the best community in the area! Snag the limited-edition miniatures, treat yourself to the awesome pre-orders, browse the fantastic new releases, and grab some great goodies. Whether you order at the terminal or buy in-store, every purchase counts. Plus: The first two “Tastes of Warhammer” events are ready to go, giving you your first chances to snag those cool pins. See you there—thanks for another unforgettable year
They unironically used their anniversary to say "every purchase counts guys, come on!".
And the worst thing of it all, by far? The store's packed. It's by far the most filled and active store in a 100km radius. Idk bros.
>>

Same, the terrain footprints are a massive upgrade for spectaclefags like myself. I just wish there was a bit more support for non-ruins terrain around them such as the rocks in my image. By bringing the most common army's baseline up, every army that was already below that baseline with most of its units now has to go even higher to be able to fight marines, which harms roster variety and results in the intended goal of this change (making marines more "elite") being half-hearted, because everyone else now has to invest specifically into countering marines' new stat lines by spamming their "elite" units.

4/7 Leman Russ variants are cheaper than 2 10-man squads of guardsmen and are actually capable of killing marines (and vehicles), so I'm just going to run at least 12 tanks in every game with 1-2 squads of Cadians running around to hold objectives while my tanks do the killing.

Marinefags have no right to complain about their opponents' rosters; our options are "lose even harder" or "spam things that can actually kill marines." I like winning sometimes, so I spam things that can actually kill marines.
>>98576149
Download a torrent client. Let someone who's more opinionated tell you which one is "THE ONE TO USE." I use QBitTorrent because I'm lazy and it just werks.
Paste that hash in the OP into the client under it's "add torrent link" section (usually under the "file" category)
Let it run
Stop the data transfer once it completes if you're afraid of your IP giving you a meanie C&D letter (you shouldn't be) or let it sit and seed for others if you aren't
Voila, you have now torrented something.
>>
>>98576356
It's more of a complaint on how the rules to represent the terrain work. Rocks, ruins, trees, and random debris do all work the same and can be used, but when it comes to fatter terrain pieces, you have a few issues.
>Footprint placings are designed to accommodate vehicles moving through/around them, meaning fat terrain pieces either take up too much space within the footprint, or block movement lanes for vehicles
>The terrain rules themselves are written as if everything is ruins, meaning all infantry can move right through it while vehicles have to go around. This is fine for ruins that are usually only .5" wide and have doors/windows that could be climbed through, but imagining your dudes crushing their way through giant rockpiles as if they weren't there is a bit too silly, additionally slower units simply cannot move through them due to not having enough movement to pass through the footprint without rolling a big advance move
Tldr: the rules for terrain are clearly made for everything being ruins, nothing to support large pieces of terrain that only flying units can ignore when moving, forcing most units to move around them instead.
>>
>>98576401
I should clarify that this isn't me saying current terrain rules are bad. This is the best we've gotten in a long time.
I'd just enjoy some representation of variety.
I enjoyed terrain pieces that you're forced to move around instead of through, or pieces that slow you down while moving through.

My ork friend has eight rokkit launchas on his side so it's not a problem for him
>>
I'm painting my craftworlders white, with red as a secondary color, purple as a tertiary color, pink for power swords, and teal/jade for the gems.

Should I do full white armor, or white with red helmets?

Oh boy more books about the fucking Guard, with 2/3 being about Cadians, this was definitely something we were lacking.
>>
>>98576481
Even the non-Cadian one looks like a Cadian-equipped regiment
At least the last one seems to be about Ratlings
What's the opinion on these three writers?
I know Peter Ferhervari has a bit of a fanbase
>>

Geez bro ever tried being happy?

Ever since exodites got a release in haven't seen anyone here get called an exoditefag for whatever silly reason like disliking marines or something

We still don’t have a single book following traitor guard or a cultist for fucks sake.

It'll probably be decently written, but ugh
>2002nd Cadians
I see the lesson GW learned from the "Why is the Steel Legion declining when they still control multiple hive cities, meanwhile Cadians are still everywhere despite lacking a planet" question was to quadruple down.
Have we seen a 4-digit unit number in a GW-produced source before?
The abhuman book might be fun as long as they don't write any Ogryns' speech in text with any of the Darktide accents.
>>
>>98576491
those wouldn't be interesting stories. everyone ends the same.
>pray in underground bunker
>pretend that nothing is happening during their day job
>eventually the prayers summon a space marine or demon
>cultist gets skull fucked

>subscribed to humble choice
>forgot to redeem keys for one month

FUCKKKKK
>>

I'd go full white, or bone/cream.
>>
>>98576523
It's only Ratlings on the cover, so I would guess the book is focusing on them only, though it would be nice to have some of the more obscure Abhumans; that's not going to happen

>Bumfuck Feudal world
>Local governor is fuckjng over everyone while reaping the rewards
>Praying to the Emperor isn't working, menial-class main character geta invited to a different sort of 'prayer group'
>Conditions get worse as the governor cracks down on everyone even more, MC gets pulled further into the Cult
>Cult seems genuinely well-meaning; sacrificing cattle which in turn is used to feed the cultists as they pray
>Halfway through the book the Cult's prayers are answered; a Dark Apostle arrives from the Warp
>Apostle instantly starts to militarize the cult and teach them rituals to the Dark Gods
>Over time sacrifices turn from cattle to captured local enforcers/officials to willing cultist volunteers to innocent bystanders
>MC is still convinced that it'll all be worth it in the end and that he's determined tocsee it through
>Cult leader gets sacrificed for a ritual that summons more Word Bearers, MC is promoted to head of the cult
>MC leads a siege of the Governor's palace with aid from the Heretic marines, they end up capturing the governor before he can flee
>MC executes him and the planet descends into anarchy as the cult begins to kill indiscriminately
>Planet is clearly even worse off than it was at the start, but the MC doesn't care any more since he's gone full Chaos crazy
>Ends with the MC becoming a Daemonhost accompanying the Dark Apostle as the planet becomes a Daemon World

I figure the other abhuman type that actually has models (and is featured in one of the big 40k games) would get at least a vignette in it. Then again, we may see a ratling character model soon and more units there. It'd be nice to have more abhuman units to fill into the abhuman detachments at the very least.
Gunlugger Ogryns with twin-linked stubbers as a 5-man squad (able to become 10) that are battle line in the abhuman detachments would be my absolute pipe dream

Those look incredibly boring, with the first one having some potential;

Really hate the covers being product accurate, don't remind me that your book is a product, especially when I can find great stories for free on the internet, or just get a classic for a fraction of the price.

I'm painting one up right now and recalled all the on-site pictures of unhelmeted blood angels being white dudes. Checked the armageddon box and there's a single black guy in it.

Marines being 2 wounds in 9th already fucked several xeno armies that didnt get 2 damage heavy bolters to deal with it and now armies like Orks who originally got T5 to protect them from easily massed AP -1 shooting that gave them no saves are now once again useless because marines are S5 base now and can shoot at S6

People lost their shit at everything in the 11th Orks leak having [lethal hits] and S5 base but turns out it was literally needed just to be able to keep wounding marines

In 12e horde armies will have a max of 10 models per unit
In 13e 5
In 14e 3 or 6, with the option of having 1 more model than 13e being hailed as a massive improvement
>>
>>98575929
predator tanks and rhinos sold well all the fucking time

>>98575854
GW could have just made every new kit going foward from 10th a non distinct refresh like terminators and gut all keyword restrictions, like why did jump pack intercessors need to specify that they were intercessors and different from an assault squad instead of being a new assault squad with a mix of armor marks
>>

Yeah because only hacks write about the same tiny group of Official™ subfactions over and over, Fehervari is a proper chad who creates new stuff every time he writes.

>>

Don't reply seriously to weak bait.

Dan Abnett is good but not the best. He's sort of my cut-off point for acceptable, I won't read anything from the writers worse than him.

Chris Wraight I constantly hear talked up but I've yet to sit down and read a full story or book from him. I've seen excerpts, and what I've seen of those bits looks very good, but sometimes a writer can get away with writing a few good paragraphs and the rest of the book is phoned in shit - Guy Haley being infamous for this, he can sometimes be excellent at setting a scene but then once the scene starts the dialogue is cringe, plot threads just go nowhere, etc. But I expect Wraight won't be one of those, I think he's probably actually quite good, I just cannot say until I read more.

Fehervari is the GOAT. Nothing comes close to his work. He's the only writer who actually gets 40k on a deep level. His writing is like the stuff you find scrawled on the wall of an insane asylum in a Silent Hill game, it's a madhouse fever dream, which is exactly what 40k is meant to be. It's the prose equivalent of a Blanche painting. It takes you somewhere else.

You are so fucking stupid you don't even know Fehervari writes for a ton of factions, it isn't a Guard thing.

>>98576809
as in fiction in general or Warhammer stuff?
Italy has good comic like Dylan Dog, or Corto Maltese as some basic examples or good prose fiction like Umberto Eco work or Italo Calvino.
even GW had some important Italian like Alessio Cavatore who work at GW during the 2000s

>>98576479

> Fehevari
Are we getting more Dark Coil or will he go in a different direction this time? Either way I'm going to paypig this.

>>98576820

Wraight might not be on the same literary level as Fehevari is (who is actually a good writer notwithstanding writing 40K stuff), I've always enjoyed his books purely on an entertainment basis. If you like the setting you can do far worse than Wraight.

>>98576080
Power creep isn't really measured by what a unit can do but rather how efficient they are for their points cost.

>>98576056
one problem every edition is MEQs not feeling very fun to use on their own. The hope here is that MEQs can be something more useful than premium priced backline objective holders.
>>
>>98575823
there was nothing imo wrong with armor facing, it was the other half of the equation the vehicle damage charts which were kinda lame but tolerable until 6th edition when they added hull points making vehicles weaker while also applying monstrous creature rules to mechs making them blatantly overpowered. im sure if you brought back armor facing without the chart you wouldnt have as many problems.

here's a thought experiment : what if AoS was a game-within-game for 40k ? Imagine that the Imperium design and massively sell AoS as a propaganda tool for human teenagers and kids : Sigmar is meant to be an alternate version of the Emperor and Stormcast are intended to represent Space Marines with the whole "forged in lightning" thing being a way to depict gene modification in a way that superstitious children can understand; the game also teach them to hate Xenos (Orruks, Aeldari...) and of course Chaos
>>
>>98579523
why would the Imperium design and sell a DEI game ?
