I know this is a joke, but I think the Adeptus Mechanicus would probably be the preferred career path for people who would become transsexuals in the modern day. They feel an inherent disgust with their genitals, etc so they get rid of their bodies entirely. Obviously this only applies to "tru-trans", not AGPs, who are all slaaneshfags.

Tau don’t have gundams, they have Indian tier knock offs that look like shit. Imperial knights are closer to your standard mech fantasy, they’re just missing Psykers and sexually charged romance.

I have made a website for anons to use.

Dicedakka.com

The basic idea for the website came from pokemon showdown and the fun anons had back in the older 4chan days when we would have teambuilding threads where one anon would play and we would tell him pokemon to use, this usually resulted in griefing the opponents but that was the entire point lmao.

Anyway to build a good pokemon team whose meta is as pretty close to solved as you can get they have a bunch of VERY useful tools.

Specifically:

One vs All: Choose your unit and see how its firepower performs against an entire faction, ranked from easiest kill to toughest target.
One vs One: Put one attacker against one target and get a complete breakdown of every roll, rule and point of damage.
All vs One: Choose the enemy threat and discover which units in your faction are best equipped to bring it down.

You can now pick a unit, sort out its loadout, determine any variables like cover or aura, and know the exact odds that your chosen unit has killing every unit of every faction in the game.
You can One v One when you are playing tabletop directly by selecting your unit and the enemies unit and know you might need more shots or an overcharged shot to guarantee a kill.
There is more you can do including army building.

I would like any anons here to test out my site, I am going to ignore most of the feedback.
Regarding ads, there will be one ad banner and thats it, currently its not implemented yet as i am waiting on adsense.
Regarding the tithe button at the top right, its just a donation button for site support and any extra will go towards buying silver bullion that i will place in a little 40k shrine and photograph, this is not implemented as im waiting on stripe shit.

Also i implemented a secret 4chan theme, just click on the theme button top right, when the list is open type in clover on the keyboard and it should appear on the list. Yes the posts are a bit cringe. I know.

also add it to OP plox fags.

Yeah, the Mechanicus work well as stand ins for trans/genderqueer people in 40k. They're a cabal of esoteric weirdoes who mutilate themselves chasing an 'ideal form' and feud with each other constantly over minor differences in belief.

Tho honestly every faction in 40k can be seen as the worst possible version of an IRL group or idea. The reason Generic Space Marines have such widespread appeal is because they appear to be the male power fantasy manifest. But like everything in 40k when you look a bit closer you realise they're actually a ghoulish caricature of masculinity.

What do you want out of 40k?
Do you want to learn and grow your painting skills, or do you just want to throw down models and play the game regardless of how they look?
>>
Looking for suggestions, I'm trying to get back into the hobby after not playing since 8th edition. Been thinking about it for awhile and the big ork revamp pushed me over the edge on it.
What's looking good for orkz these days? I used to run a sort of shooty list of massed infantry (shoota boyz, lootas, tankbustas) backed up by looted wagons and a morkanaut. I may run something similar still, but I want to mix it up and try some new stuff too. Was looking at maybe bikes and buggies, maybe a dreadmob, or maybe even just get a bunch of trukks and battlewagons to mount up in.

Leaning bad, humanoid, doesn't have to be humans, tolerance for details depends on the model I guess, I tried painting Cities of Sigmar for AoS and I hated it but enjoyed painting some Sisters of Battle (even though it was a long time ago).

Imperial Knights are western mecha, brick shithouses that are 30% gun by volume. Tau are eastern mecha, hyper mobile murder machines.

Both are also associated with the idealised warrior nobility. Tau mech pilots are samurai while imperial knight pilots are, well knights.

Buy a pack of small magnets, glue them to your bases
buy a sheet of steel
buy a set of plastic bins relatively close to the dimensions of your stainless steel sheet
put sheet in bin
you now have a foolproof way of transporting an entire army for less than 100 dollars
play whatever army your heart desires because there is almost 0 chance of something shifting in transit unless you fuck up

Grogs will tell you templates were fine, they're lying. I started in 5th and I can tell you people bitched about template scatter and placement at least once every game. By 7th I just stopped taking template weapons entirely and agreed with whatever my opponent said about their templates because I wanted the shooting phase to end faster.

Like most things in old 40k, they were a good Idea in theory and worked great when your playing with friends but were a nightmare in pick up games. They work fine in Heresy for that reason because its a much smaller game with more community focus. If your a prick about Templates in Heresy people just stop playing with you and then you can't play the game at all.

Chaos Space Marines seems to me to be the best pick. Not one of the monogod legions, generic Chaos Undivided. Black Legion, Iron Warriors, Red Corsairs, homebrew renegades, something there using the CSM rules.
CSM has a roster a bit more constrained than loyalists, but it's nowhere near the monogod armies' or SoB's sizes.
>like balance
To get a good balance of units, you need battleline that are worth taking for their own combat output. CSM do that very well, Renegade Raiders makes Legionaries very potent IME.

Most of my play experience is with SoB, so I should probably stop opining on anything to help you on this here.

had a game of 4e with a friend earlier, my ultras vs his nids.
he had a strong start when he ambushed me with some raveners and flat wiped out a squad, but that took the raveners out of synapse range so i took the opportunity to run them over with a rhino
then i got a lucky reserves roll and my terminators deep striked into a very advantageous position on turn 2. this squad went on to do basically nothing except make him so scared that he dumped a disproportionate amount of manpower into taking it out.
he immobilized one of my rhinos in a bad position, blocking an important path down the board and kneecapping my mobility...
but just when it seemed like he could was about to break through my lines and touch me in my no-no place, my captain heroically won a duel with his hive tyrant, taking a bunch of units out of synapse and saving the day for the space marines. another glorious victory for macragge's finest.

how'd (you)r last game go, anons?

super fucking fun, but I played guard back then

blasts were on average way more inaccurate than shooting and also benefited less from ballistic skill so they were perfect for guard/orks etc and not as much fun for marines

you picked an enemy model as the target, then rolled a scatter dice that had "arrows" on 4 sides and "hit" on two sides. If you rolled hit, you just put the blast on top of that target model and get an automatic hit for everything partially underneath it

if you rolled an arrow, you move the center of the blast 2d6-BS in the direction of the arrow. The exact line direction of the arrow was something waac shitters would argue about to try to save models

hits were the best though, if you rolled that hit your large blast (5 inch diameter) could easily hit every model in a 10-man unit if it was bunched up.

Most stuff didn't have large blast though, usually only one or two models in a codex. battlecannons, earthshaker cannons, vindicator cannons, whirlwinds, railgun submunitions etc

so you play guard and one of you heavy weapon lascannons pop a rhino and all the marines pile out of the burning wreck
it's still your shooting phase but now they're exposed and clumped together
then you land a perfect battlecannon shell in the middle of the blob and instagib every marine on a 2+ with no save it felt SO GOOD and always tilted the marine players

but that's why salty players would argue about the direction because the more clumped an target unit is the more you're likely to completely miss everything if you roll a scatter in the wrong direction

Flamers (templates) worked the same way, but NO SCATTER and the small end of template had to always touch the exact model with the template weapon so you wanted to maneuver close with the flamers to get more coverage. some exceptions that let you put the small end down anywhere within 12" like hellhounds, they were much more powerful because you could get perfect angles for perfect coverage

Best case scenario they are mentioned once and it was a pyrrhic victory and then never mentioned again so it is implied they're still kicking around.
Worst case scenario fans accidentally love my autism project and my autism project faces stupid levels of reductionism like how the grimdark painting style and blanchitsu got reduced to excessive washes with weathering being optional with the conversions/kitbashes that carry the style nearly nonexistent.

The only good thing about their generic captain release spam is that none of them are interesting enough to stop you building something better for way cheaper from spare parts. Maybe if Ravenwing get specific models this edition some of them will stand out. They are capable of making unique marines (Aethon Shaan, Feirros... uh...).

>>
>>98596015
Incelcessors, Assault Incelcessors and Decalblasters should be one box. Other than weapons they're literally the same thing.
>>
>>98596015
>Is there a practical purpose to this new kit
No. They just made 10 new intercessor sculpts (5 in armageddon, 5 in the intro set) and even with the new rules I really doubt anyone will be using many after the codex is released. Higher strength shooting (which most/all marine units are getting) but fewer shots, and sticky in 10th was more useful than action+shoot/action while engaged/battle-shocked in 11th. Most dispositions aren't doing many actions, I think it's two random secondary missions.

Some of the sergeant weapon options weren't in the old kit, but surely the simpler thing would be to remove those options not make a whoie new set of sprues to infest future combat patrols and battleforce boxes when they don't sell. Most marines units don't get thunder hammers for their sergeants, intercessors are the odd one out.

This always feels weird seeing as GW persistently always uses their brown painted grasslands sand all the time. The colours really do always seem to let the model "visually pop" but GW doesn't sell sand anymore so it always was weird that they continued to use it.
But it is always weird seeing them have official basing schemes that aren't sand.
Like Blackstone Fortress flat bases.

You should do Vostroyans since they're less likely to be updated by GW in the next decade so you'll have a more stable base to make your changes and additions to unlike Steel Legion which is gonna get new models *supposedly* in the next 3-5 years and you're less likely to see the new models and go "damn, I should've done that to my soldiers" etc

In past decades you'd be seen as a weirdo for buying shit you don't use
But right now people in your position buy virtual currency and items while you at the very least have an overpriced physical object for your money and not some jpeg that will vanish when the game reaches EOS. Doesn't change the fact that you should analyse the root of why you buy so much
I'm in the same boat and this is how I cope
>>
>>98596006
The "decent army" you want will become shit in the next edition. Just paint what you want to paint. If you think its cool you're doing it right.
>>
>>98596108
IIRC, if a unit is wholly within a terrain footprint it always gets BOC.
>>
>>98596108
You can't draw line of sight. Footprints are considered infinitely high when models are outside them. "Obscured" is a different thing related to terrain pieces/actual objects.

>In past decades you'd be seen as a weirdo for buying shit you don't use
Honestly those days need to come back. Even if it hurts GW's wallet. A lot of businesses now and especially miniature companies are built on this kind of thinking. If the mentality of seeing people as weirdos for buying what they don't need I think some big companies would show signs of being hurt. Not sure what they would be. But I doubt it will be lower prices.

Throw in a unit that bumps points but spoils multiple purchase value. Maybe keep the current Arcos? I know they're good but I don't think I've seen people use more than 10. Maybe a Penitent Engine.

>>
>>98596237
It's one of the combat patrol layouts in the app
>>
So after the ancient Grey Knights and Dark Elder ranges get updated this Edition, who is left struggling the most in need of updates or expansion?
It's got to be the chaos cult legions still right? One of them in the 12th edition launch box maybe
>>
>>98595333
Templates are fantastic because it makes players naturally avoid bunching 20 minis shoulder to shoulder behind a tiny wall, that sort of thing looks like shit, or like nu hammer which are the same thing.
>>
>>98596260
world eaters would make the ideal starter set opponents, as long as it's using bloodletters as chaff
>>
>>98595368
Thats only because 5th (a garbage edition) made all blast templates scatter, that was a mess. In 4th only artillery was scattering and you did the process once or twice per turn at most.
>>
>>98596226
Maybe swapping out the Sacresants for Retributors, it's a useful unit but do you really need 3? It would also bring the price value of the box down while raising the point value.

>>
>>98596285
Bro they literally just updated Primaris 'tacs' right now
>>
>>98596277
because the 10 grots come out from empty spots on the ork sprue and they only reach 10 because the sprue is repeated twice
if they had added the runtherd then they would have had 2 runtherds per 10 grots
if they had added the runtherd as a separate hero then it meant removing one other ork hero
the current normal gretchens and runtherd kit is also not going away, partly because the gretchen in the starter aren't a separate sprue
and adding grots alone is a callback to the 2nd starter boxset
>>
>>98596287
I don't give a shit. Intercessors are not tacticals.

unfortunately they made him speak directly at his first novel apparition and all apparition since because this is evidently too difficult of a concept for 40k's hack writers to stick to and instead the other members of the triarch are dumb puppets and nobody bats an eye when the silent king speaks himself

Nids turn 2 was pretty good. Killed an immolator, took the other two low, and almost wiped out the Sacresants by lowering them to just Junith and the Hospitaller. Sadly the Swarmlord failed his charge into them to finish them off. Very importantly, they flipped the center objective with the swarm of gaunts.

To their credit, the Sacresants survived almost the entire nid army shooting at them. They're in cover, they have their -1 to wound special rule, they have 3+4++, and they have 5+ FNP. So they did the job that we are paying lots of points for them to do, so I can't complain. They survived over a thousand points of units shooting at them then the psychophage made it into combat and they still hung on by the skin of their teeth.

The Trygon deepstruck and tried to get a cheeky Overwhelming Force on the Dominions back in the corner on that objective, but literally one single model survived the shooting and then he failed his charge. The Emperor was with her.

Nids scored 10 on primary, but actually got 0 on secondary because Plunder and Defend Stronghold are scored on opponents turn and they didn't get Overwhelming Force. SoB scored their own Burden at end of nid's turn for 4 secondary. Nids: 26 and SoB: 21. What a perfect, close game. This is so much better than saturday's game.

SoB turn 2 begins!

I can see the logic. They wanted to update Vect. But that means his new design has to redesign both their boats and the infantry they have riding on it. So now you have to redesign all the big boats. And you need to redesign the basic armored gunners and pilots. And now you need to redesign the basic infantry kit that is supposed to look like all the models hanging off those ships.

Very strong SoB turn 2 shooting. Trygon, Swarmlord, Neurotyrant, Maleceptor, Gaunts, all died. SoB flipped the middle back to control 3 objectives. Only lost one immolator to an ongoing combat.

Nids scored their Defend Stronghold for 5 bringing them to 31. SoB scored 15 on primary, 5 on Burden, 3 on Engage on All Fronts, and 5 for Secure No Man's Land for a big 28 point turn, brining them to 45. Nids hold on to Plunder and Overwhelming Force, and SoB hold on to no cards going into turn 3.

Nids are down to only barbgaunts, 2 exocrine, and the tervigon. So a comeback will be an uphill battle. This happened fast, they had most of their army last turn, but the Immolators and Vahl did a lot of good shooting.

This does look like it'll be a SoB victory in the long run. But you never know! I really enjoy these closer games, and holding on to secondary cards does allow for comebacks.

Agreed. What I don't get is why GW doesn't do something similar to what BattleTech does and have different narrative eras your games can be set in which would determine which units and characters can be used. That would allow them to kill off characters in the narrative and being in fresh ones, while still giving people a reason to buy the old character models alongside the new ones.

With Daemons my army will get split into 5 fucking factions with none of them having enough points to be full armies. Be'Lakor will go to CSM while each god's daemons will go to their specific cult legions. I will go from a multi thousand point army to having to buy 1000-1500 points worth of marines from each Chaos Legion just to have playable armies. yeah, this is important but in hindsight the blood slaughter is not that visually different from the venomcrawler and the defiler, so it's better if they have access to those and focus on a kit for the brass scorpion

but also they should get exclusive use of the lord of skull, better access to demons and the slaughterbrute, access to traitor guards and the lord discordant, and arguably it would be better if the brass scorpion was a generic csm thing they also had access too rather than an exclusive we thing, since they already have the lord of skull as big overly khornate demon engine

A boltgun is s4ap0 damage 1 with rapid fire 1
A bolt rifle is s5ap-1 damage 1 with assault and rapid fire 1, or s6ap-1 damage 2 with heavy and rapid fire 1
Ergo a bolt rifle is not a boltgun
If they were the same, then they would have the same damage profile and the same name, but they don't, meaning the difference is significant enough for bolt rifles to be considered "not boltguns."
>>

Bolt guns also changed their rules since their introduction, guns don't stop being the same gun just because they happen to get rescaled slightly or buffed.

>It's a third longer, throwing off the proportions completely.
no, the gun is longer proportionally to how the marine is taller, the proportions of the gun are essentially identical to the ones boltguns have had to their marines in their earliest models.
>Rules are completely different,
the game is completely different, marines are T5 with 2 wounds, relatively speaking the rules of the guns have the same role and effect as they always did

Instead you hate the current marines, but hating marines for lacking a few little details only shows that you don't actually like marines, you just like the little details.
This is of course absurd, there's nobody who just likes the little details, the truth is much simpler, you hate marines and are using those few little details that have been changed as retroactive excuse to hate on them, regardless of whether you actually like or not the changes to those details.

Also makes them unwieldy game pieces in a lot of cases.

> I know what you said
Clearly you don't because I said every little detail which isn't the same as "only a few details".
>if you liked marines you would still like the current marines because they are marines.
That just denotes surface level care.

Pleasr stop lying, you need to use things that physically fit on the terrain footprints, can be placed in the approximate locations shown and that will also accommodate models being placed on the template at the same time. You can use whatever you want so long as it meets specific requirements that the thunderhawk terrain does not meet.

I didn't say "only a few details".
every little detail IS a few details

>That just denotes surface level care.
no, the surface level care is stopping at surface differences and ignoring the fundamental similarities

you don't actually like marines, in fact you hate them

Ideal number for playing the correct way to play marines.

it really depends what kind of units you're running, but even in 11th i play 20 man blobs of neophytes and if they're tucked in cover it takes a lot to remove them. and you have to remove them to a man because the icons give 3+d3 models back a turn, and they're only like 7ppm, so they're very cheap. your opponent usually has to throw an inordinate amount of points of shooting at them to clear a full squad 100% in a single phase, and frankly if they're doing that, you've already won

melee is a slightly different story though, they have a harder time because melee tends to just be more raw attacks and harder to escape from since you cant duck around a corner with a few cheeky models to regenerate, but thats why i usually tuck a few pocket units of genestealers around, to deal with threats like that.

as far as attaching characters, i like to keep my neophytes cheap. like yeah i could throw an iconward on there, or i could just get another squad of neophytes for about the same cost.

i just had a game a week ago and staying power didnt feel like one of the armies shortcomings, apart from its trucks which blow up instantly. the army kinda feels a bit pillow fisted now though, with the lower strength bombs, the changes to the primus, idk, felt like nothing i had really landed. i threw a full unit of acolyte bomb charges into a landraider and did maybe 2 wounds to it. those used to be great at taking down anything, even knights.

thank you, but doesn't MKIV have that T-bone chestplate? I thought that was a more defining characteristing than X shaped tubing

Ive been doing this for years anon and it takes me forever also. I honestly think the people that are finishing building whole squads in a day are prob just doing a bad job of cleaning them. These ETB orks from the armageddon box have taken me like 4 days and thats not including the vehicles. Or i am just as autistic as you.
