>Alt Question
Whats something in your splat of choice that you cant help but find goofy?
>>
>>98612362
How is the lore in older versions? I know werewolf has dog fucking but is there any other cringe I should throw out?
>>
>>98612424
>but is there any other cringe I should throw out?
Anon, you misunderstand.
Keep the cringe.
Don't make it central to the plot or anything, but leave it as a small factoid that'll give your players emotional whiplash when they hear about it in an otherwise normal game.
Your players may forget the average VtM game, but they'll fucking remember the time they discovered the bone gnawrrs are the original people responcible for the "white women fuck dogs" meme.
>>
>>98612424
Anon the cringe is half the part that makes it compelling. The Garou are fucked up, their society is fucked up, their existence is fucked up, they are the wrong people for everything they are trying to do, but still they have to pull it together. Just don't be weird and make it the focus but part of their existance that they just have to deal with.

W5 tried to make the setting 'clean' and was correctly hated for it as it ruined the setting. You cannot have transgressive corporate safe punk. It doesn't work.

"The World of Darkness is increasingly starting to remind me of a Judge Dredd story I read when I was little, in which a werewolf on a colonist ship goes out in search of prey. Unfortunately, his prey turns out to be another werewolf, and so they team up and jump a third person - who also turns out to be a werewolf, as is the fourth, as is everyone else abroad the ship, the Judges having cunningly sent all the lycanthropes in the city off on this thing, with vampires to follow. Between vampires, werewolves, mages, wraiths, changelings, mummies, kinfolk, weretigers, ghouls, sorcerors, hunters, hengeyokai, werebears, wererats, nunnehi, kuei-jin, revenants, djinn, merfolk, Gypsies, weresharks, etc, etc, the world’s getting a little bit crowded. Soon the Wolfies will publish IOWAN: THE REAPING, in which we discover the secret powers of John Deere, black coffee, and losing your arm in agricultural accidents, and there won’t be any mortals left at all."

Well I know how W5 could fix it's Harono and hauglosk.

Like come why is that V6 is the game that steals from Forsaken 2e of all games.

Also add Tribal hauglosk while you're at it.
>>
>>98612554
That shit is mostly a community-side issue rather than a setting-side one. Supernaturals are rare and all the supernatural groups have region zones where they're more common vs much less common, with the exception of vampires being pretty much everywhere.
If every other person on the street is a noghtfolk, your ST is seriously misunderstanding the numbers.
>>
The Triat's members original purpose/meaning was something like this:
Wyld -Life/Chaos/Creation
Weaver -Living?/Order
Wyrm -Death/Balance
If I got something wrong, do please correct me as I want to get a better understanding of the original/uncorrupted/sane Triat.
>>
>>98612424
The lore is a big part of what makes 20th anniversary based and 5th edition faggot corpo slop. So yes, 20th anniversary is full of offensive, weird and downright fetishistic stuff. And you can't just rip it out, the entire setting is built around that stuff. W5 tried to get rid of dogfucking werewolf genetics and paid the prize by being universally lambasted.
>>
>>98612613
The wyrm isn't really "Death" in that sense so much as "Decay". One thing to keep firmly in mind is that All triat members are firmly in the Life side of the life/death spectrum. The Wyrm isn't complete erasure the way Oblivion is, it's the decay of old life into new life that powers the cycles of nature. It doesn't truly destroy anything so much as transform and corrupt it.
>>
They really couldn’t keep COfD 1e and 20th at once

It's funny that playable sabbat is the least contentious element of V6.

I Guess that mean playable Cult in W6?
>>
>>98612613
Yes, and a few groups still speak of and even worship the Balance Wyrm. The Hatar auspice of Ananasi serve the Wyrm but are actually double agents trying to restore it to its pre-corrupted form
>>
>>98612642
Even a sane/uncorrupted version would still have the corruption aspect?
>>
>>98612677
They will probably release a V6 corebook that maybe has playable Lasombra antitribu, and then release a Sabbat book a year later
>>
Do you ever actually track where your player characters live/are currently at? Not like, "oh they're at their house", I mean like "Oh they're at [insert address here]" type of stuff. I'm out here looking up 3 bedroom apartments because one of my players has their hunter still living in the 3 bedroom apartment long after his divorce, and it just occurred to me that what I'm doing could be crazy people behavior.
>>
>>98612742
Mine live in a gigantic Winnebago they got scammed out of
>>
>>98612701
Yes.
Decay is essential for life to continue and preventing chaos or order getting out of control. The balance wyrm "corrupts" the wyld by parasitically bleeding energy from it until the order of the wyvr can take back control and then "corrupts" the wyvr by weakening the structures maintaining order until wyld chaos erupts uncontrolled.
>>
>>98612677
>>98612710
You guys are being real optimistic about V6's sale n7mbers if you think wod6 will last long enough to release w6. Mage6 and changeling6 are slotted up first, but I'm not sure we'll even get mage6 before the entire ip gets scrapped at the current rate of things.
V6 is a desperate corporate hail-mary to try to hit gold by accident and make back the all the money they lost on wod5 and bloodlines 2. If v6 flops, the stockholders will likely pull the plug on wod's life support.
>>
>>98612822
god I fucking hope the internal valuation of the ip goes to 2.50 and some random ass schizoid buys the ip and the entire thing returns to being a weirdly sexual edgefest
>>
Why do vamps hate infernalists again? Especially the sabbat? 90% of them are going to hell anyway (100% in the sabbat’s case). Are they all hard coping? Falsely believing that striking down infernalists would save their souls? How is dark Thaumaturgy any worse than regular Thaumaturgy? Or even necromancy or koldunism? What is so bad about them again, when both sects have opened their arms to practitioners of Paths of Enlightenment who embraced evil?

I hope for this outcome with all my heart.
>>
>>98612866
Real optimistic are you? The most likely consequences of that is paradox selling the Ip to another big company like say Games Workshop, Tencent or *shudder* hasbo.
>>
>>98612899
They sell it to a company that has a hate boner for any and all fanmade content so HtP gets cease&decisted
>>
>>98612822
God that’s awful
>>
>>98612877
>Why do vamps hate infernalists again?
Because infernalists get out of control very easily. A competent dealmaker can potentially go from zero to "Look at me, I'm Caine now". Most don't, but the neonate you thougjt was under your thumb siddenly being able to slaughter you elder conspiracy is Not something elder vampires are okay with(reminder that sabbat elders are hypocrites that only pay lip service to the original ideals of the anarch revolt, they only really care about being the new elders in charge).
>>
>>98612908
>HtP gets cease&decisted
That'd Honestly be great given how retarded alfa and co have been lately. The need to take a break from writing to remove their heads from between their own asscheeks.
>>
>>98612822
Why was BL2 such a flop?
Is it because nobody advertised it?
>>
>>98612899
whats the worst that could happen? they turn out another slopgarbage edition and then what? I shan't be buying it either way. So I'm totally on board with whatever gives me a chance of something good happening as opposed to minimizing damage.
>>
>>98612908
Yeah it would generally hurt me soul if GW brought the WoD Ip and locked HtP behind Warhammer + (that's conveniently renamed to GW+...)
>>
>>98612949
The game was ass
>>
>>98612949
because it cost like 45~ million to make, mainly. And it wasn't what anybody really asked for. So it only made about 5-10million back. The writeoff (actual profit vs the profit they expected) was 37 million.
>>
>>98612960
I mean, how ass are we talking?
I saw nobody advertising it was even out.
Those kinds of games flop bad

I'd be willing to give Paradox $50 and a jar of peach jam for the WoD IP. I'm overpaying.
>>
>>98612924
So it’s just a way to regulate access to power? Limiting it so the established order is maintained?
>>
Just get Ice Pick Lodge to do a CTL game, get Team Ninja to do a WTA game.
>>
>>98612949
Because the game was shit.
The game was shit because they fired all the competent game makers halfway through because the female staff wanted to jump on the #metoo bandwagon(all allegations proven false in court), which took dev time from a couple years to More Than a Decade as well.
>>
>>98612970
>how ass are we talking?
It was a walking simulator with a couple dedignated combat spots in the questline.
The story was so stale I literally forgot what it was about.
>>
>>98612983
I would have GW as a publisher. As the sort of least worse of the bad choices. Like I'm under no illusion that they're bad in they own ways.

Like expect to have most WoD lore videos locked behind warhammer + (or maybe GW+)...
>>
>>98612949
I never really heard anything about BL2 story or content-wise. My prediction was that they totally missed the point of why people liked Bloodlines, leaned on the LARP crowd for inspiration, and came out with a stale whiny bitch goth game instead of a fun, campy gothic immersive sim.
>>
>>98612980
>So it’s just a way to regulate access to power?
That, and the fact that people who do it tend to go uber-crazy in ways that threaten the masquerade. The pacts incentivise causing misery and destruction, so widespread infernalism would mean neonates with elder disciplines going nuclear on local cities and attracting True Faith hunters like flies to shit.
>>
How does copyright and patent apply to games?
If I made my own game with the nine attributes from nWoD and 20+ skills, could Paradox convince a court to send paperwork my way?
>>
>>98613039
>How does copyright and patent apply to games?
Whoever has more money wins the lawsuit.
>If I made my own game with the nine attributes from nWoD and 20+ skills, could Paradox convince a court to send paperwork my way?
Yes.
>>
>>98613028
Sooo… if an infernalist were to maintain the masquerade, it would be better viewed right? I guess all those other infernalists just burn too bright too fast and too hot. The most delicious stew takes time to simmer.
>>
>>98613039
Use plausible deniability. The whole premise of WoD isn't defensible, but things lifted straight from the WoD are.
>>
SEX WITH SMELLY CITY GANGREL!!!
>>
>>98612983
>Just get Ice Pick Lodge to do a CTL game
And lose brand synergy after digging up CtD's corpse? Perish the thought. nWoD has to stay dead as a matter of professional pride or they'd have to admit all their effort to make their mark on oWoD was for nothing.
>>
>>98612512
Folklore wendigo unironically fit well as Banes/Fomori. Or a general Spirit/Claimed if Apoc's not your jam. I could also see a wight/draugr being taken for one. Or a type of pseudovamp.
>>
>>98612554
Honestly a valid criticism. Too many supernaturals and most of the time they aren't even complimentary.
>>
>>98612360
IIRC Wyrm lore is special in that regard since you've gotta roll for derangements every time you get a dot in it. Can't remember where that rule was but probably somewhere in Werewolf books.
>>
>>98612866
I promise you that if it were up for sale I would buy it just to make it public domain immediately. Free WoD for everyone, every aspect if the IP, totally public domain without caveat. You won't be bound by my WoD, nor I yours. Lovecraft 2.0 baby.
>>
>>98613349
That’s news to me
>>
>>98612877
Infernalists can become Gen 1 very quickly annnd can be posessed by the Demon who they made the deal with, proceeding to getting everyone killed and probably bringing on the Lamest Gehenna.
>>
>>98612924
>A competent dealmaker can potentially go from zero to "Look at me, I'm Caine now".
How do they keep the investment loop going in story terms? How does a storyteller justify an endless conga line of demons investing in this one random fucko.

>>
>>98613508
I thought the only background infernal pacts cannot grant for VTM was generation. Has it changed? And unless you got control of the demon like the Wyrm Thaumaturgy path, it’s just silly to get possessed. Unless as a last fuck you if you’re about to get killed.
>>
>>98613513
thaum in dark age's player guide to the low clan and the baali in devil's due both have a power to summon a random demon

although the former costs a humanity max dot to use

and there is a investment (to be fair one of the most expensive ones) that make your soul destined for atleast the mid tier ranks of hell
>>
>>98613513
>How does a storyteller justify an endless conga line of demons
Anon, you don't need more than 1 demon. Pacts are rated 1-to-10, a pact to serve a demon for life is a 9, and selling your soul is a 10. You explicitly can make as many pacts as you want at any level except 9 and 10.
Just make a shit tone of level 8 and below pacts.

It's even easier if you live in asia or near an american chinatown. Unlike western demon lords, Yama Kings let you trade Other people's souls if you have them on hand. Douls even have a clearly spelled out value(the lesser of their Humanity or Willpower x 10, sabbat souls are thus worthless junk).
>>
>>98613555
I might throw this in my player’s way next werewolf session. Though I’ll use an NPC as a demonstration first
>>
>>98613039
Mechanics don't have copyright. Fluff and lore does unless it's already in the public Domain. You probably can't lift Tzimisce and Lasombra, but most of the other clans and their disciplines should be safe.
>>
>>98613604
>It's even easier if you live in asia or near an american chinatown. Unlike western demon lords, Yama Kings let you trade Other people's souls
acording to devil's due earthbound do that too. it's really just the umbrood who don't
>>
>>98613604
>Unlike western demon lords
Why do europoor demon shortchange their infernalists like that? Isn't it more souls for them to let their human minions steal souls?
>>
>>98613628
umbrood demons don't actually doom your soul themselves outside of a 10 dot contract. investments are meant to entice you to be a awful person causing you to either do terrible things to get them or do terrible things with them (or more likely both) so you go to hell after death. it's the rope you can hang yourself with

probably because most umbrood are based on humanities idea of demons and hell and because of that have to respect free will in a way demons of other origin don't
>>
>>98613622
>acording to devil's due earthbound do that too
Kinda, but also not really. Souls themselves are worthless to Fallen after death. They stop producing faith/resolve and instead Cost energy to keep as thralls for them.

What you Can sell are your descentants. That how the earthbound wake up in modern times, they start drawing faith of the descendants of thralls that sold out their bloodline.
>>
>>98613628
They probably used to but Europoor Infernalists stole entire continents worth of souls and fucked the market value. I'll give you three guesses from which continents.
>>
>>98613628
European demon had to deal with gigachad infernalists like Solomon and the awakened Circle of Red. They can't risk getting ass-raped like that again.
>>
>>98613697
>European demon had to deal with gigachad infernalists like Solomon and the awakened Circle of Red
What do we know about WoD Solomon again? Besides him gaping 72 Earthbound.
>>
>>98613690
yeah it's a bit complicated because devil's due is in large part written from the pov of inqusitors who equalize demon pacts with selling souls

but it is mentioned that Diabolists can sell other people even other Diabolists to demons so you can just sell people to slavery for power
>They stop producing faith/resolve and instead Cost energy to keep as thralls for them.
if you keep them as thralls. the main use for dead souls in dtf is to power relics with them
>>
>>98613707
jinn are still salty about him too and 2 traditions and 2 crafts claim to be based on him
>>
>>98613719
Oh right he also did a couple thousand jinn.
>>
>>98613707
He also started 3 mage factions, the Order of Hermes, Celestial Chorus, and Taftani. All of their shit works because he fucked the umbrood angels, demons, and Djinn so hard ALL of them are still forced to follow his laws when on earth(local concensus doesn't change this either, it's a fucking earthly foundation somehow).

Okay, I can see why the western umbrood are so pissy.
>>
>>98613730
so this guy made 70% of the spirit sphere? based of him! big fan now

>>
>>98613739
he's him. He's the man the average hermetic wishes he was when he looks upon his own dreary reflection his crystal ball.
>>
>>98613782
One of them anyway. The other is Hermes Transmagistus. The guy who invented alchemy and codified all western magic practiced to this day.
>>
>>98613730
And then DtF had Belial kill him off before he could do the same thing to demons.
>>
>>98613792

>>98613753
>>98613773
>>98613781
>>98613782
If you're done riding his dick, he's also the reason umbrood lords will rip out your avatar regardless of deal if you're a mage. They have a permanent hate boner and it's every new infernalists problem thanks to one guy.
>>
>>98613817
How dickish are the laws that bind them if they go to Earth? I wanna know if this hateboner is justified or just them being petty dickheads.
>>
>>98613827
>How dickish are the laws that bind them if they go to Earth?
They all any human, even non-sorcerers, normal ass mortal humans, to bind ANY demon, angel, or djinn to their will Forever if they follow the right ritual.
This is not limited to umbrood.
>>
>>98613827
you know how they are rituals that can bind any kind of demon beside elohim? that's because as >>98613800 mentioned here belial killed him before he could make it so that his laws apply to him

basiclly without him all demons would have the "mind control immunty" dtf demons have
>>
>>98613800
>before he could do the same thing to demons.
He didn't get there fast enough. Solomon already fucked every earthbound in the middle east before belial could stop him. Fucker offed 72 out of 666, literally more than 1 out of every 10 earthbound got solomoned. He was like a 1 man black death for false gods.
>>
>>98613596
>I thought the only background infernal pacts cannot grant for VTM was generation
For peon demons any summoner can bind into service sure. Demon Lords on the other hand can give anything except a couple mage-only backgrounds.
>>
>>98613596
dark age companion especially mentions generation as something demons can lower
