Most disapointing paint you've ever bought?
>>
Can someone explain all the ways magic has changed in Age of Sigmar from Fantasy? Are Imperial battlemages still a thing? If so, are they more powerful? What can they do? How is magic viewed in Sigmarite society in general since it’s so much more common? I assume Witch Hunters are now no longer a thing? Do you still need a ‘license’ to practice it?
>>
>>98613985
There was a description in one of the WD's I believe that described the difference between how magic is harnessed between the two settings. In Fantasy, I'm sure you know the drill, harnessing the winds themselves to manipulate into your spell.
The way it was described, and I'm paraphrasing from memory here so some of the exact wording might be wrong but the concept is the same, was that the winds don't exist as they did Fantasy since they're coalescing into their respective realm, but magic of all kinds suffuses the realm with the respective realm's energy being in much higher abundance. But they describe channeling magic as reaching your hand into a river and trying to grab specific grains of sand from the bottom to form your spell. It would be easier to cast a spell in its respective realm and harder in others. Arcane Colleges still exist, but I haven't read the new CoS tome to give you a good description and would be a good source to look to for the rest of your questions.

A lot of the systems you're familiar within were ported over during the days when cities of sigmar weren't a 'true' faction, but a lot of them have been grandfathered in, at least all the human stuff. The arcane colleges as you remember them are essentially copied into the Collegiate Arcane. The Order of Azyr are your witch hunters, vampire hunters, etc, who look about how you might expect. Teclis is Sigmar's direct aide in manners of magical understanding. Witch hunters are somewhat less paranoid than in Fantasy, because of nullstone, which is basically a solidified fragment of the aetheric void (the space between the realms), which is anti-magic to the extreme. Failed wizards will often have nullstone embedded into their bones, both to prevent them from using their powers for evil, but also to protect them from chaos, because wizards are favoured sacrifices. Also, Khornate warbands love using nullstone weapons, javelins, and arrows to weaken wizards before btfo-ing them in melee
>>
>>98614314
The aetheric void is pretty cool. Does anything live there? Fantasy flying space whales, that kind of stuff?

Mages aren't vulnerable to Chaos in the same way, so there's no Witch Hunters. The equivalent hunts evil living spells that are detached from Chaos entirely.
There a college of magic but it's a footnote.

So Fyreslayers are getting mulched and slapped into a new generic dwarf faction. With basically all the old foot heroes (2 handed axe nerd, guy with beard and no mustache, guy with pokey stick and axe) and the old berserkers. They will then be slapped into something called "khazlid holds" wherein from what is being said they will just be the old generic dwarf faction with slayers in tow.

>>
>>98617035
Well, according to leakers, fyreslayers are either getting a major expansion or cucked depending on how you look at things.
Essentially, they will get merged into a new faction together with basically new Dispossessed models. This new faction (khazalid holds seems to be the name) will apparently be quite ancestor god focused, and fyreslayers will essentially become the "grimnir part" of the army. Most of the new releases will be focused on the non-fyreslayer dwarfs, but they will also get at least one new unit too; a new type of magmadroth. They are unfortunately losing some models, the basic vulkite berzerkers, and three heroes (grimwrath berserker, doomseeker, auric runemaster).
As for the new dwarfs, it's not entirely clear how exactly they'll look but they'll apparently be pretty classic dwarfs. How exactly that shakes out is hard to tell, after all, you could describe lumineth as classic high elves. Apparently there will be a fair amount of runic stuff involved, for example on the recent rumour engines was described by rumour mongers to be part of some magic flying boat thing (aka, a throne of power. Picrel)
So yeah big things are happening to fyreslayers, but not necessarily good things depending on how into the specific slayer thing you were.

>Fyreslayers are getting mulched
Has this actually been confirmed? Good if true, though. Slayers should never have been split into their own independent faction. They're a niche element of broader culture, so cutting them away from it pigeonholes them too much.

>>98617219
>be quite ancestor god focused
I hope this is the case. It'd be cool to see a dwarf roster divided between, and designed around, the different aspects of Grungni, Grimnir, and Valaya - with Grimnir being the more warrior aspect (i.e. FS), Grungni being technical, and Valaya being support/defense.
Honestly, I think that's part of the reason why I don't like the Hellsmith releases. It feels to me like they failed to really expand upon established chorf stuff in meaningful and interesting ways.
For example, I'm fine with having female dwarfs in the mix, but I wish they were integrated in a way that's relevant to the culture. Like, where are my suicide squads of old or infertile chorf women for Hellsmiths? Where are my fertile priestesses of Hushut or slave driving matrons?

>>98617350

>>
>>98617350
>Has this actually been confirmed?
The same leakers who correctly leaked, among other things, the nurgle, cos, and recent ogre releases are where all this information is coming from.
Although in general we know less about this dwarf release than we do about those others; we had descriptions of all the new units months in advance. For cos and ogres we even had some pics. For fyreslayers we have very little information on any of the new units themselves.
Reveal shouldn't be too far off at this point, we've been getting lots of dwarf rumour engines and lately those haven't lasted long.
When's the next show? Do we know tbaf yet?
>>
>>98617431

Yeah I get what you mean, rumours are nice but it's nice to be left in the dark sometimes. Speculation is fun. Similarly, we know dickall about the end of edition units/waves iirc.
As for dwarfs, I do hope they do *something* interesting with them that'll set them apart from whfb dwarfs. Maybe something like that rounded "onion-style" armour that sometimes gets posted here, or something like picrel, or just yeah something different. Don't want them to be a kharadron style complete reinvention or anything, but just a bit of uniqueness would be my preference. Maybe make them draconic, that'd be cool. For fyreslayers specifically I'd mostly just like a droth cav unit and a full unit of drothblood berzerkers.

Most schemes fail because they use one color exclusively or too much or forget that there's a greenskin wearing the armour so don't take into account how that green weights on the palette.

Ideally you don't want to paint all the plates the same or even color code the plate types.
Ideally red should be part of the colour scheme to work as contrast to the green.
Ideally you want dark gritty dirty colours because these are orcs and not elves.
Ideally you also want to make use of patterns, warpaints and symbols.

TCG's just bring in more money for less shelf space, it's one of the reasons GW tried multiple times to get into that market and failed every time outside of UW, and even then, a lot of people think that game is dead
>>
>>98620574
>>98620588

It doesn't matter where a chaosfag comes from, the more they walk the path to glory the more they lose their identity and roots to align with the patron's.

>>
>>98620588
The AoS card game was weird because they didn't let you play it in stores back when playing in stores was a thing at GW and how people got inot the hobby. It just seems such a stupid move to not encourage your stores to do a card game night to try and get people into it if they were really trying to push it.

No, GW licensed it so basically unrelated to their stores.
It was just a shallow attempt to profit off hearthstone, TCGs, and that ARG craze. Profit potential buzzwords from a soulless company who made an engine builder TCG of all things.
It wasn't terrible but of course it died for a reason and I don't even think moderate popularity would save it because they were after hearthstone money

That movie was such an odd blend of real and thoughtful writing and "You're a big guy"-tier nonsense. Someone needs to reel Nolan in. There's actually a new store opening in my city this weekend, which is nice. Seems to be more of a pokemon tgc / general "geek" store that stocks a token amount of warhammer (like every other store in this country for some reason) but still.
>>
>>98620716
Yeah I remember specifically because when me and my mate were told not to play it the guy even said "Yeah guys I know it's weird because we sell it in store but..."
>>
>>98620574
GW fucks up retailers hard as far as I know, and people prefer buying online or second hand unless the store has a 20/25/30% discount, which at that point is just a way to turn customers into friends so they end up buying painting supplies and other stuff there rather than elsewhere.
>>
>>98620812
The issue with stocking warhammer isn't necesarily the pricing, the wholesale prices start at 50% of RRP and they're open to negotiating below that. The issue comes from the fact that if you stock Warhamer they really try and push you to becoming a primarily Warhammer store, strong arming you into giving warhammer x% of your shelf space etc.. For a lot of people it's just not worth it dealing with GW's shit for all that.
>>
>>98620825
What country are you describing? Those practices sound like more of a distributor thing, so should vary by country or region.
I don't doubt it's true for your region, and it's sounds like a hassle for small lgs.
>>
>>98620825
Yeah my lgs has like half their store dedicated to warhammer even though it doesn't move at all. Even 40k, doesn't really matter which system. There's still dominion boxes there, and a fuckton of battleforces from both aos and 40k. They're not hurting for space so that's not an issue, but I can't imagine it's worth all this hassle just to sell a box or two every two weeks.
Still has some whfb blisters too.
>>
>>98620870
My sister owns a book shop and they asked her if she wanted to sell it (she wouldn't have wanted to anyway), granted this was second edition so things might well have changed in the meantime.

They’re a bit middle of the road in terms of difficulty, they’re bones so that’s as easy or as hard as you want it to be instead of flesh which is just hard. But they also have full armor and equipment with lots of overlapping bits and bobs, so you gotta choose your scheme carefully cause if you go for a clean look it’s a real pain but a more gritty look can be a lot easier.

Cog forts for everone is a trap isnt it?

Theyre just trying to sell as many as possible, but eventually when the hype dies down, its just a COS model.

>>
>>98622599
They didn't rug pull the feature from imperial knights or giants.
>>
>>98622599
They’re a trap in that not every army even really wants one and the rules are honestly just so-so for what it is. Anyways it’s likely going to be allied in other armies no matter what because it seems regiments of renown are going to be hamfisted as the ally system for Aos for better or for worse. Even if they do change how allies work (they won’t, let’s be real) they won’t completely disregard the option because at the end of the day gw wants you to own multiple bits of different armies, although regiments of renown seem to be the worst case of them trying to sell that idea overall.

>Theyre just trying to sell as many as possible, but eventually when the hype dies down, its just a SOB model.
>Are megagargants in any battletomes besides SOB anyway?
>I was thinking of getting one for my gitmob, but Im afraid of the rugpull.
>>
>>98622865
oof yeah that sucks, nurgle seems like an army that can counter you very hard if you just lack the damage or bodies, but some games end up like that. hopefully the other player was chill though, you can't win them all and all that
>>
>>98622195
>>98622143
That’s actually kinda cool. It’s basically the Lustria/Catachan equivalent then? Ghur in general seems like it has the most potential to set some cool stories in
>>
>>98621888
hes also a dirty commie which is far worse than being a terrible content creator
>>
>>98622853
yep
>>98622858
you CAN buy it separately, otherwise it's 1 mini a month free

Building is one thing though already stupid if you want it to cure correctly. Asking you to paint it in store is stupid. This is gonna kill foot traffic.
>>
>>98623085
At my lgs they only offer it to newbies as a tutorial (if they spend over £35). They teach you how to build it and make you paint it before they put it in a cardboard box for you to take home.
I asked for it, bought paints and gitz, told him what I wanted and then he says "I've seen you before, it's for newcomers only". What a cunt.
>>
>>98623071
For what it’s worth, that’s still in the game, not even legends. The RoR profile that is.
>>
>>98622250
/tg/ makes the link from Karbo to people working at GW realy short actually

yes

All RoR from Dawnbringers and prior is legends is it not? They're not in the usual RoR sections

Anyone know if the leftover arms and heads from the funny guns or flamethrowers can be slapped onto the spear guy bodies so I can buy 2 boxes of blunderbusses for the extra thingy I got.
>>
>>98623794
Yeah, its what I plan on doing too. There is one set of arms that are kinda tricky to stick on them though, I cant recall which one it is though, but a little bit of cutting and green stuff will do.
>>
>>98623794
Went and counted the bits on the webstore images of the sprues. Looks like they might.

Aren't Ardboyz 'normal' orruks who simp for the gorkiest brutes and such? They compensate for this by being slightly more tactical and such.

Destruction needs more fantasy creatures in them.

I don't think there is any non-fantasy creature in the whole grand alliance.
Even the wolves are giant and venomous.

Ironjaws need Irongits, something like a cross between the Moria goblin Blackshields and the Blood Bowl Black Orc Goblins, give them a fun rule where a Brute can throw them at an enemy to deal a couple mortals
Also give us an Idol of Gork with the option to build a Idol of Mork

decided to work on a bit of the SCE side of the skaventide box so i'm not just working on rats 24/7, holy hell the stormcast are big lads. guess it makes them easier to paint alongside them being almost completely metallic colors
>>
>>98624196
Ironjawz need bigger Brutes who can throw Ardboyz into battle
>>
>>98621062
One of the better ones iirc because you just zoom across the board at that size. Despite the other anon seething there's plenty of gameplay tier list videos online if you're interested

I rather like the entire range, but:
Despite being busy, he's not gaudy like the rest of the range. Just a well executed concept.
