Reminder that buying space marines is a bad decision. You just bought a subscription army that you will constantly need to add new stuff to. Versus if you buy the smaller imperial factions or non CSM Chaos units or Xenos units, your units will stay valid for much longer.

If I had bought a Space Marines army when I started during 7th edition, that entire army would be in Legends now.

They didn't even have the decency of making legends rules for tacticals and devastators. Seriously I don't get why they have so much contempt to the most iconic space marine unit and also their best selling kit in history. You'd think they'd want to milk it but no they'd rather replace it and pretend it never existed.
>>
>>98621709
Meh, as long as you aren’t buying direct form GW and use the secondary market it’s not that bad. It sucks seeing stuff go away every few years but that’s just kinda how things work now. It’s like planned obsolescence in other industries. Gotta make number go up, best way to do that is a literally endless churn of new shit and making the old stuff not work as well.
>>
>>98621729
I mean Thousand Sons and Death Guard get like 1 new unit per edition. While CSM gets like 6 new units per edition. And Chaos Knights only got 1 new unit in 10th as well. And Chaos Daemons haven't gotten any new models since 9th.
>>
>>98621751
Yeah like they gave us new intercessors this edition. Why they didn't instead give us a new Tactical Marine? Maybe Armageddon sets would have actually sold if they gave us new Tactical Marines.

Idk what it is, but I feel like I have this super power in 40k where I tell people something to prevent the worst case scenario from happening, then they do the complete opposite like I was trying to trick them or something, and then the worst case scenario does indeed happen and makes is both miserable. >>

They are "Legendary Proxies" meaning they have the same restrictions as legends units without having even their own rules. And just like barely anyone allows you to play legends units even in casual games, these units will have the same thing happen to them.

mandrakes, incubi, drazhar, lelith, malys, and the new archon, are the latest things, so the safest; kabalites are rumoured to get replaced, but aside from that we don't know what's going to happen.
I'd say the normal boats and the vyper are safe too, as would be the pain engine.

but if I were you I'd get some kind of bundled box that contains a few of the basic units, even if they get replaced the current ones are a treasure of bits and will give you some cheaper and varied bodies whatever happens because they will end up being very compatible with your current purchases aesthetically.

In any case their range update isn't far, one year at most, and the things most at risk that wouldn't get a replacement are the flyers.
>>
>>98621793

The Wych, Kabalite, Wrack, Venom, Raider, and Ravager kits are all interlinked. The wrack kit comes with pilots/gunners for the vehicles. All the limbs are interchangeable and you can replace any of the gunners/pilots with the other kit's equivalent seamlessly.

GW fucking up the scaling on one of the kits would be a fucking stupid idea.

But it's GW who the fuck knows. They probably don't even remember how based those kits are. Fucking 9/10 model line by the way. Wish they still did kits like that.

Play at a local game store tonight. Get an airbrush. Have a painting session at 4 o'clock in a mostly empty Warhammer store. Go to a tournament in a place you've never been. Build an army you think may have nothing in common with you. Order the online exclusives. Buy a new acrylic. Customize a base. Customize two. Be open to a new army where you may not understand or agree with the ruleset, but build them anyways. Paint slowly. Drill your barrels. Check in on ebay. Check in on marketplace. Enjoy the hobby

/mydudes/ have a long running feud with a Dark Eldar Cabal after the deorbited a Deldar ship onto the webway gate they were using to launch raids. In the millenia since, the Kabal of the Obsidian Serpent have been responsible for the deaths of hundreds of marines and the loss of 6 different captains.

The chapter also has a personal hateboner for a Slaaneshi cult known as the Veiled Exultation. The ‘Xulties suckered the chapter into a full strength drop onto a subsector capital city only to summon a Keeper of Secrets and cause a localized warp storm that decimated the chapter and left them severely weakened before the opening of the Great Rift. Though the Keeper did get banished at the cost of the chapter master and his honour guard’s lives. The only reason they’re still a player in the sector is some Primaris reinforcments they received from a Torchbearer fleet.

Lastly one of the current captains has a personal beef with the Phaeron of a nearby Necron dynasty because the phaeron has beaten him thrice in combat, the last time with his bare hands, but refuses to kill the captain because he enjoys their meetings.

8" move is nothing special, phobos have plenty of mobility track with the LT and detachments. They've lost the 12" deep strike denial bubble which was the only thing people took them for, and why they cost 110 points currently. CP generation gone as well. 6+ FNP replaced with D3 healing. It's a big downgrade despite the better bolt carbines.

Yes, it's what rhinos are supposed to be like.
>>98622173
This has always been true. Every single vehicle in the game is smaller than it should be so that they are actually playable. Or do you think trukks are supposed to fit 12 dudes on the back when physically there's room for about 3? Why is this suddenly only a problem for marines that requires to ruin how the unit works?

At the scale 40k is supposed to be, tanks would make little sense, and flyers even less. Real tanks, and even modern infantry rifles for that matter, have effective ranges that are far too large to be accurately reflected on a 28mm tabletop. It's an abstraction for the sake of gameplay and to have cool model kits.

They're a lot closer to correct than a lot of people think. people get caught up in thinking the model in the vehicle will take up the same amount of space s the base.
The Rhino and the marine backpacks are what make them not fit well, scale wise even a primaris works out to fairly close equivalent of an M113, which fits 11-15 humans. Same with the old rhino and the beakies, people forget military vehicles aren't built for comfort. If anything the rhino is too tall compared to contemporary APCs if you're going to get into it.

I know some anons have brain damage but have you ever considered buying a sheet of plywood? You can literally buy them cut to size so you don't even need power tools or a saw. 15$ done. Do you buy a separate table for everything you do? Chess? New table, dinner guests? New table, birthday party? Two new table expansions.

My second lgs sucked so we played in a guy's apartment. He owned 3 folding tables and 4 sheets of plywood. Easy to setup. Easy to teardown.

Sure heavier wood is better but you arent going to tip a table without a lot of effort.

I mean. you needed what, 10 marines to conquer a planet in old lore?

1 company (100) of oldmarines were mopping the floor with a prepared, entrenched Alaitoc who had titans, super heavies, and multiple Phoenix lords. I fully expect numarine players to be raging about feeling weak until your average xeno list contains 500 models most of whom are physically incapable of wounding a space marine.

The dumbasses don't even remember the days where a shuriken catapult was literally better in every way than a Bolter. Not gonna lie I bet there already are those. /3dpg/ ardently swears they are around there watching.
I bet for the intern it is probably the best or worst job imaginable. No middle ground there.

I do firmly believe that marketing is conducted here to shill indie projects like Kickstarter stuff. Even with the negative connotation this site carries desperate indies will try to save face by pretending to be curious anons. I saw a Malaghast thread made and an anon got mad and people accused that anon of being the creator of the game. Was pretty funny.
This means that genuine anons curiously asking about a game get mistaken as shills for indie games.

>>98621962
>Why was the Kill Team alternative wargame taken off the OP, OP?
I think it is a few anons who constantly remake the threads and they tend to use a pre-saved text document on their computers.
So they haven't updated their documents.
>How long did it take us to update the OP when the third party pastebin link kept getting messed up/updating it when many shops went down?

This place is so negative for a variety of reasons some of which are presonal. 11th edition's rules are fine, the issues are codex imbalances. People are afraid that marines and orks are going to just run over everyone until they get a new codex. But this doesn't matter if you play with your friends or casually at a store.

Painting, hobbying, and being social don't care about edition and it's always a good time to do those.

Pre-covid /tg/ had a lot of flat out open indie game developers posting here but cancel culture really fucked that up at the same time as marketing tabletop products got a lot more corporate so imitating home grown feel vs honest enthusiasm has become a lot harder to distinguish. Its an enshitification problem that's been happening for years at this point. Sucks because I'd like to give anons the benefit of the doubt but its harder to do these days.

The rhino is basically reasonably proportioned for a guardsman and can, theoretically, fit all of a tactical squad if they take their backpacks off like real soldiers, and could even do it sort of comfortably if they took their FUCKING PAULDRONS off too
Scale creep fucks it up, as does making the backpacks and pauldrons not get taken off during action, marines are just way way way too wide all around to fit in anything they purport to
You're right that it's a little tall but discounting the fact that it's just an FV432 squished around a bit, taller APCs have and do exist - that's before you even get into current day monsters with the ground clearance of a low flying aircraft to avoid mines

I'm fully expecting the eldar dex to drop and every unit will be overpriced and straight up worse than the marine equivalent, and marinefags will STILL bitch that they lost lost to a hyper specialized list and demand nerfs to those specific units in the list. marinefags could be given the bounty of heaven and they would still demand more.

I'm not sure if a concrete definition can be found.
I've seen the word used a lot on Warhammer 40k social medias. And the reasons for some getting the label are stupid and some just don't make sense. I've seen the word "chud" used like how /pol/ uses "woke." I think the sad reality is that the terms do have some truth, but nobody can decide when traits reach the point where they deserve the labelling. So they just grasp at the first signs in a "nip in bud before it grows" mentality.

As for here it doesn't help that a lot of /pol/fags like to come here and pretend/larp to be those they hate. Why? I don't know, but when you notice it you'll notice it more.

Most of these chumps don’t play or even have models, the game being fun is entirely dependent on the attitudes of the players going in, if you’re trying to play to win regardless of how you accomplish said win and your opponent is the same then it can be kinda depressing when you realize how unbalanced it is and completely reliant on your rolls which is basically just a slot machine but if you both go in with armies that are built and dictated by rule of cool and you guys are willing to allow a missed charge of 1 inch that seems close to succeed for a better story then you’re in for a treat my sweet.

Not the point. Back in 9th upgrading the heavy bolter sponson of a Leman Russ costed 40 points per multimelta. Now it's just 5 points. Might aswell be free.
>>
>Sisters aren't getting changed
Then why even fucking play them
This nothingburger Q&A should not surprise anyone, they clearly hold great disdain for the players; how GW treated Guardfags when they were questioned about the Steel Legion not existing on Armageddon with that half-assed "they're dying out from the constant war :^)" excuse should have told you enough, if you hadn't figured it out before.
Who decided "we should be outwardly hostile to our paying customers" was the best business strategy? I wish more people would actually vote with their wallets on this front.
>>98621649
Again, it's not just "more rivets"
It's "how the rivets are patterned"
The HH Russ looks like it costs more to make, because it would. That alone makes it more ornate and gaudy. To be gaudy is to be extravagant, especially in the face of cheaper methods that would come later (both IRL and in-setting, which is why the 40k Russ looks cheaper to make).
>Dorn tank with its apparently cast turret and hull, yet still covered in rivets.
The rivets on the Dorn look like they're for taking sub-assembly castings and putting them together onto one large frame, like the M3 Lee (which had both riveted plates and a cast housing for the hull gun). Or they're just bolts for something like a transmission housing (again, like an M3 Lee).
The only "rule of cool" rivets on the Dorn are the ones on the outer edge of the mantlet, unless that's meant to signify it as a multi-panel assembly (also quite possible depending on forge quality for hardened steel), but I don't think GW's designers thought that far on either case and were just emulating the general aesthetic of American WW2 tanks.
The Cadia-ification of the guard will be complete if the Russ goes.
>The GW designers, and most people do not see as far as you here
True, most people do not ask "why" to things, they just do and it annoys those who do know why.

NTA but
This is pretty common like you wouldn't believe.
A lot of college artists wanted to be bigger than they are but they feel stuck to having to draw art they don't want to for things they don't have an interest in so they get bitter.
I don't think many Warhammer 40k official artists like drawing for Warhammer 40k. They just do it for the paycheck so you have pieces like the stupidly thin boltgun. Or the Commissar's badly positioned bolt pistol hand.
>pic related

They are essentially grifting mediums they hate for money.
And I believe a good number of these college artists got a reality check that nobody wants to see their shitty paint splatters on canvas or their literal garbage pile in a corner they lazily made for millions.
That's partially why I think some of them hate AI because now normies are essentially doing what they wanted to do but their results are better than their paint splatters.

They're arbitrary and I find them stupid. You can hide anything behind the terrain footprint no matter what it is so your big fuck off tank is invisible behind a rusty pipe. You put 1mm of your base on the edge of the terrain cutout and suddenly you're in terrain? Stupid detection rules so your backfield fire support can't target a unit on an objective because that unit hasn't shot. All because GW can't balance for shit so they have to force players to behave the way they want.

I don't know if it's a bad time per say- If you like the models get them.

The game itself is in an awkward spot; 10e/11e streamlined a lot to make it easier to get into the game but the 11e start is clunky.

Fairly commonly, actually. Great example is on most layouts with the large central objective, a 12 inch range means you'll be able to stage behind the central objective out of LoS but also be able to hit something that's toe-in in the deployment zone or also staging behind the central ruin.
Especially with armywide advance + charge access.
>>
>>98622952
None, but that’s my point, it’s all relative to the points per model. Marine infantry is likely going to have a much higher points cost in their 11th codex, shifting more of the focus onto them from the armor.

Nids are meant to be the most elite army in the game actually (or were, before Custodes and Knights). People just dont really get what gaunts are. Gaunts are their version of Grots or Scouts, not their version of Boyz or Intercessors. The nid version of a Boy or an Intercessor is the Warrior. It's the basic core of Tyranids, that's why it has such a generic name, just "Tyranid Warrior", same as Necron Warrior or Kabalite Warrior or Fire Warrior. It is the baseline Troops choice of the faction, and has stats on par with Custodes. The little bugs are the weirdo auxiliary backup Troops like Grots and other aforementioned.

IDK why you're trying to force this meme. Bolt carbines would have been perfect as the newest standard boltgun pattern but they chose to not only make them a separate gun, but also make them not the default and to top it off scouts now get an actual new pattern of the standard boltgun with standard boltgun rules. It's all so stupid and unnecessary.
>>
>>98623165
Obviously Phoenix Lords being unique named characters are even more elite but the point I'm making is that the Tyranids equivalent to Eldar Guardians are big 10 foot tall monsters with Custodes stats, not the little T3 bugs. Perception of nids themes has just gotten very warped over the years from "big honking space monsters that have some little swarming adds" to "swarming little monsters that have a few big ones sprinkled in" and its backwards.

I find this to be very representative of the difference in rules design philosophy between modern 40k and old 40/30k.

In modern 40k the core ruled have absolutely nothing in them regarding transport capacity, so it has to be states in every single datasheet. In 30k there's a USR called Bulky (X) where X specifies how many transport seats are taken by that model. To GW the 40k version is simpler because the core rules are shorter but in truth it's just convoluted and redundant while 30k just needs a single word and a number to do the same.

Yes I know, its that exact complaint that got us boxes that have nothing. The devastator box was an incredibly good kit, it was jam packed with options, a fully loaded 3 sprue box for 60 dollars. To fit twice as many heavy weapons in there it would have been like 4 or maybe even 5 sprues; there was just no way GW would ever do that.

Maybe one of these days we will get lucky and they will release a heavy weapons upgrade kit like for HH, but until then we are stuck with just the plain jane intercessors.

For intercessors at the end of 10th the grenade launchers weren't worth firing over the extra bolt rifle attacks. Might be different now with 4 shots becoming 2 (rapid 1) and the extra strength to the krak grenade though. For a unit that just stands on objectives and (if needed) does actions it's wasting everyone's time to roll special weapons separate.

Me? Well, you see, I play SoB, Agents, Eldar, and Guard. I call my collection the "under 50% win rate, bottom third play rate" bunch. The joke is a bit on the nose, but you know how it is. Oh? It looks like SoB have managed to claw their way to a 50.4% since the latest dataslate update, I might have to rename them all now :^)

I also play marines so I have something to lend to people or use in demo games, but I figure everyone has some marines and I definitely don't consider them my main army.

Here are some of the little buggers now. At least they're doing better than....Agents.

You can buy a sheet of particle board or a few laminate squares for very little money at a hardware store. Don't buy plywood, you'll have to surface it with a lot more effort involved (or just get splinters all the time).

Make edge trim, make some legs, boom table. Tables are very easy, if you have 2 hands you can do it.

its so weird how literally every other army has absolutely no problem using unique weapons in their standard troop unit, but then when it comes to marines its some kind of tooth pulling torture. ork boyz are part of a horde army, and they have no problem with their rokkit boyz, shoota boyz, and now even have a burna on their team again.

Yeah this is pretty much the way to go for codexes. Thing is, part of what makes 3.5/4th so good is also the vast array of other material available, so if you really want to get into it you also want to grab as much as you can of the Chapter Approved books from 2001-2004, the Imperial Armour volumes, Cities of Death, the Citadel Journals and so on.

Someone who's made more tables than me would probably have better suggestions. I've only built a table for a work/reloading bench and used a 3' laminate square for it (because I needed it to be flat and at least 1" thick), so that's what I'm familar with.

>>98623675
Yeh the collection to dig through is really vast, and for the most part its honestly pretty good. One thing you might for instance choose to do is borrow the chaos god specific units from the 4th ed csm book (pleague marines, thousand sons, beserkers, and noise marines) while using the rest of the 3.5 cms book (which doesnt actually have them, at least not how we think of them today).
Pretty much all the available material from 3rd all the way to 7th ed is compatible, only needing a cursory level tweaking to make it work.

Yes, Guilliman had a bubble of full hit/wound re-rolls for Ultramarine units (I think other SM just got RR1s), and also IIRC company ancients let units shoot on death 50% of the time (including after killing themselves with plasma). A guy I knew ran Guilliman castle and it was just a fucking horrendous play experience because it was nothing but repeating dice rolls, rerolls, on *their* turn, and then in my turn I'd be punished for shooting them back with *more* rolls and rerolls interrupting my own actions.
>>
>>98623698
Re rolls are such an ass mechanic.
It was tolerable in older edition because it was just a few weapons and usually it was either the hit or the wound that got a re roll

yeah, that’s cause its a horde army with a lot of guns, but no ork player is like “wow, if only I didn’t have rokkit boyz in my army, my 120 boy greentide will go much faster shooting!” and even if they did, they’d understand that’s just the price you pay, and would look at you like a complete retard if you suggested rokkit boyz and big shoota boyz should be squatted in favor of pure tankbustas and flash gitz. and that’s of course just the extreme example. other armies with similar model counts to marines have their troop kits with weapon variety, but don’t have a “6 year long” shooting phase, and they don’t bemoan the fact they have more weapons in their unit.

The Gladiator Lancer can reroll one of EACH of its attack roll phases. They don't even have to be on the same attack, you can do it for any attack in each turn, the only limit is you can only reroll 1 die for each type.
The literal text is "you can reroll 1 hit roll, you can reroll 1 wound roll and you can reroll one damage roll."
GW seems to want more rerolls, or at the very least think of them as an easy "make this good" for anti-vehicle units like the Lancer.

I’m mostly laughing at the state of them, and how their fans will act like its completely normal for an army to be like this, and even act like its a good thing.
I’ll admit there is a little contempt though.
>>
>>98623825
I think anyone who likes marines has shit taste and any marine release gw does is a waste of resources.
It just so happens that the majority of people are npcs with shit taste.
>>
>>98623895
It is a good thing though
variety is the spice of life
if the end user wasnt satisfied they wouldnt do it
GW gives concessions though which is more than 99 percent of companies, like how they said theyre developing a firm ruleset for legends after the recent backlash
people dont give them enough credit, not dickriding them because i agree the prices are TOO DAMN HIGH but it really could be a lot worse
this isnt a game where they can send out a free patch to change things, you have to concede that things have to change at some point and that means you might have to buy and paint new things

What kind of slurs might a Chaos Space Marine use to describe Regular Space Marines, Sisters of Battle and Admech? I am trying to fluff out some of my CSM armies / squads and wanted to write some tid bits.

The people who would buy this either do not have the space for woodworking or can simply afford to buy the table and not spend their time building one.

wasnt that the OG box color scheme for tau
pretty based even though i would guess that the color scheme is entirely based on the impending invasion of Afghanistan in 2001 lol (tau debuted in October 2001, did they change the color scheme to match the desert camo????)

>now there’s an argument to be made why there arent ork battlesuits that were harvested from the tau
this is probably the only time I can shoehorn my kitbash idea, but I want to make a warboss that uses a bunch of my firewarrior/pathfinder bits.
so the gun will be the standard plasma gun, his face will have a fire warrior helmet, and his axe will be replaced with a jury rigged shield drone he punches people with. HOWEVER, should I get rid of the banner, and replace it with an orkified little shield drone hovering above him, or keep the banner and replace the skull with a tau skull/helmet?

>the problem was that they needed marines to sell more and this was it
All they had to do was scale up the firstborn designs to the primaris proportions without all of the stupid ways they changed the design of the armour/weapons and it would have sold 1.5x-2x what primaris did.

When will GSC get a centerpiece model?
>>
>>98623955
Hopefully fucking never, one of the most kino things about them is that they're all /yourdudes/ and expendable and don't have any named characters or giant centerpieces.
>>
>>98623960
Idk itd be cool if they had the option
Especially since they kind of suck
>>
>>98623960
Definitely a unique thing about them and totally unrelated to them being the least popular faction in the game.
>>
>>98623899
Space marines are most of the setting and you like the setting enough to be here so you have shit taste lol
>>
>>98623913
Every insult a chaos worshipper would have is a form of projection or comes from the point of view of slave morality.

So imperials are slaves, puppets, and toys even though chaosfags are the slaves to darkness.
Chaosfags will think that the miracles the sisters of battle manifest are part of their own warp metaphysics, despite what imperial believes, so they'll call them witches and corpse-hosts.
Chaosfags may think form of transhumanism other than the path to glory through chaos to be dishonourable, cowardly and ultimately a pale imitation, tech priests would be akin to delusional people, and deride those mortal parts they still have to possess, morsels.
>>
>>98623939
No, it doesn't, I said they are popular despite being bad, not that they're bad because they're popular or popular because they're bad.

Maybe get your handler to teach you to read sometimes.
>>
>>98623974
They're one of the least popular factions because they are a super-expensive horde army that is also really difficult to paint and have been fucked over by the rules-writers on top of that.

But one of the absolute best things about them is how they scratch that itch for the faceless underdogs. When they first came back at the end of 7th it was a time when the game had become absolute cancer because everyone was spamming shit like super-heavies, flyers, D-weapons, and named character death stars.

GSC came out with
>no superheavy
>no flyers
>no D weapons
>no named characters
And yet if played well they were still shitting all over those meta armies purely through finesse and a few cool psychic powers and bits of wargear, so you were mogging these gay deathstars and giant knights and shit by just swarming them with 20 billy joe bob bulbous-headed mutant retards with buzzsaws and sticks of dynamite and then mind-controlling your opponents Wraithknight with your Magus and shooting his two other most expensive units with his own D-cannons. Literally designed to be pure SOVL and troll the soulless toxic spam lists of the era. Kino of the highest degree.

I will keep saying that they should get a big drill vehicle that vaguely imitates a dune sandworm

and/or one special character on a biological sandworm, if they're feeling frisky enough to rip off dune even more directly

That's kinda lame, they don't need something that's a 1:1 ripoff of Dune. A plastic Termite Assault Drill would be acceptable though. Has Horus Heresy not done that already?

The mechanical drill remains my first suggestion as well, but a dude riding atop a worm is a fucking cool look and it gets even better when it's paired with the visual of worms emerging from the planet in parallel with the hive ships of similar designs descending from the sky.
As above so below and all that jazz.

maybe just one smallish worm rider.

>>
>>98624051
I think you should just convert your own Primus riding a Mawloc or something, all the parts are there for you, it doesn't need to be an official model/named guy in the lore

cross that with the SoS vehicle, and yes

Thinkin bout buyin a metal hive tyrant. But the plastic one looks almost identical. Is it worth it?

>>
>>98624052

>>
>>98624066
No, use the plastic one, also the metal is slightly thinner.
>>
>>98624073
TY, saw a mutual on twitter get one, and I want a different one in case I ever run two, but yeah I think I’ll just try my hand at reposing another plastic one.
>>
>>98624066
I think the metal one looks slightly better but it's to such a small degree it's not really worth it.
>>
>>98624066
I have had both, it's the most faithful conversion from metal to plastic gw has ever done, just don't bother with the metal one unless you like the weight.
Also this is >>98624073 is true, the small difference in proportions triggered by autism so much that I ended up forcing the significantly heavier metal torso onto the wobbly plastic flyrant tail rather than the most sensible thing of using it for the one on foot.
>>
It's okay to like marines. Just acknowledge that you're playing the posterboy faction that gets all the attention.
It's okay to not like marines. Just acknowledge that it's no excuse to be an annoying faglord.
>>
>>98624130
[autistic screeching]
>>
>>98624130
I think marines are extremely cool but they're still slightly too overfocused by GW and the game, lore, and marines themselves were all better when less time was spent wanking that one particular faction and it was spread a bit more between everybody.

The patriarch is literally a broodlord, they are the same thing. The gsc calls it a patriarch, the imperium calls it a broodlord.
It hasnt been just a big fat guy since like 4th ed.
