Why would any Dark Eldar want to kill off the only faction that keeps them immortal? Without the Haemonculi they can't regenerate from death.
The only thing GW might pull (which I think they tried to pull previously) was to say that the Ynnari don't approve of the Haemonculi and all the Dark Eldar are getting pulled into the Ynnari. ...even though Haemonculi have had Ynnead worshippers since before the Ynnari were a thing.

There's a difference between drip feeding updates and making a massive change to the core army the game has been balanced around for more than 20 years without addressing the other factions
T5 marines with better weapons aren't the issue, the issue is that it should have been done in an index edition to give the rest of the game time to acclimate

That depends, what kind of situation?
If it's a stranger who asked for suggestions on their model then as honestly as possible without being too harsh. It also depends if they're better than me or not or about the same level. If it's my friend then I'll be harsh if I know they won't get upset, but I'll still point out the things I think they did well of course.
>>
>>98646199
I don’t, unless they’re completely new and fucked up painting horribly. In that case I’d offer advice on how to make them look better.
If you mean how much I judge based off how they paint them, if they put in some effort and didn’t just rush to put some meta list on a table I don’t judge them at all.

A 6th ed Marine codex has marines at an average of 14ppm
70 pts for 5 was standard. Marines are broadly as hordey as they always have been for 2k points. Typically, you take transports and vehicles which reduce the total number of models on board. Hope this helps!

I haven't played and probably won't. Just painting and photography this edition, I think.

Got burned out by the constant meta churn making all the games tournament prep, the tables being ugly, the rules making the game feel more and more like space checkers. Pop a unti out, kill something, die instantly, kill, die, tit tat. At the end of my last run I was playing against marine armies that were as big as my IG army, and then GW jacked guard infantry up to like 75 points. I play the game for aesthetics and narrative and I wasn't getting either.

Picked up orks and it is IMMENSELY satisfying to have an army that can run over necrons after auto losing with gsc & nids against them. The most satisfying part is I've said for like 3 years basically everything having a 4++ & a 5+ fnp and crit sus 5+s like they do is unfun and retarded, so to hear my bro bitch and moan about orks having a 5++ and every other shooting unit having lethal/ignore cover/sus then getting to say 'now you understand why your own army is a problem and has been for months, retard' is icing on the cake.

They'll probably get nerfed but idc, I'll have had my fun mindbreaking every tryhard necron player in my store by then. Plus I didn't really pick up the army because I'm competitive- really just want a fun to paint army.

I don't. If there's paint on the model I'm proud of them. Everyone is different experience levels, and experience is the main thing, so everyone's paint is what it is.

If someone's army is painted and they have at least a little effort into details, I'll always say "nice paint by the way" while we're setting up. Just let them know you noticed and appreciate it. It's nice to compliment people for effort. It doesn't have to be "good", effort is what counts. A person who put in effort but maybe has a shaky hand, or is very inexperienced, or just not much time to paint is totally fine.
And of course if someone's stuff is abnormally good I'll say that too. I've seen some good stuff over the years and I'll always say something like "that's really great, love the ____" for whatever thing that makes it stand out, whether it's one particularly good model, or it's a particular technique like freehanding or unique star effects or gradient effects or whatever.

I won't say anything critical unless they specifically ask, and even then I'll gauge whether they legitimately want criticism or if it's just conversation. Criticism that comes in the form of being helpful is always better, like telling them how to actually do it, not just "X could be better". Chatting about painting while setting up is pretty typical for me, even if it's just complimenting, or just conversation about how long it took them or what was their favorite part and least favorite part of the process. Generally people love to talk about their army dudes and it's a good tone to start the game.

Fluff is harder to ask about. Not everyone has a backstory for their dudes. But if a model has a label on the base, or is holding something different or is a conversation of some sort, "oh cool, what's his story?" is something people seem to love haha.

They're basically marines but with better everything-
>fuckass huge model count compared to other factions
>boring ass base paintjob compared to every other faction
>basically every durability keyword in the game stapled onto one body a la C'Tan
>Outdamage every other army in the game
>Were supposed to be a (mostly) slow moving army but then they got every mobility keyword in the game
>A nightmare to deal damage to, and if you don't do enough the whole unit just stands back up and pretty much guarantees you the loss.
>Catalyst for MULTIPLE game rule rewrites (3" deep striking hypercrypt, entire unit resing becauze character survived, etc.)
>Has never dipped below a ~50% wr and anytime they seem to head that way they get a buff
The latter's probably the biggest indicator of the central issue- that some retard on the dev team who has a Ward tier hardon for them always ensures they're good, which is a surefire way to piss everyone off since even SPACE MARINES have swingy winrates across editions now.

Posting as to why I liked the Mordians. Context: It's the start of the Indomitus Crusade (just after the rift opened) and a strike team of Custodes ahead of the main fleet because they had warning of some really bad shit going on this Monastery World that is now an important warp route hub. Dvorgin is the Mordian General coordinating the planets local defences.

"
‘I am sorry, my lord. I would say it is simply tiredness, but…’ Dvorgin tailed off. He took a sharp breath, and forced himself to look into Achallor’s eyes. ‘With the greatest respect, Lord Achallor, you ask the impossible.’

Achallor looked down at the man in growing surprise. The general stared back, his eyes dark-rimmed with exhaustion. Achallor could see it had cost him a lot to speak up, but now that he had forced the words out, he would say his piece.

‘Your warriors may be suited to such unrelenting operations, my lord, but mine are not. Nor are the Phyroxians. Nor, I suspect, are the Battle Sisters. Mordian discipline is a wonderful resource but we are not indefatigable. My soldiers have seen weeks of constant battle. We have lost more in the few days since your arrival than in the month before. You spend our lives as though they have no other meaning and Throne knows that is your right, but what do we have to show for it? Stretched supply lines, exhausted reserves, and a half-ruined bastion. Now you ask us to march at once upon the enemy’s greatest stronghold without food, or rest, or a chance to mourn our fallen, and to send others into certain death below the ground. I condemn my soldiers to a pointless end. To do so would be an inexcusable waste in the sight of the Emperor. Strike me down for my insubordination if you must, my lord, but I speak only the truth as I see it.’
. . . " Cont

Cont... Also Achallor is the Custard leading their mission.

"‘Are you telling me you will not do it? Do you know who you are speaking to? Do you not think we risk our own lives as well?’ Vychellan hissed, taking a step forward. Achallor put out his arm, stopping his comrade. Dvorgin shrank a little, yet stood firm.

‘I am not saying that, my lord,’ said Dvorgin defiantly. ‘You ask the impossible, but I tell you that we will do it. We are Mordians, loyal soldiers of the Emperor, each and every one. We will march while our throats are parched, our bellies empty and limbs are bleeding. We will fight until we die, and we will do it because the Emperor demands it. You command, and I shall obey.’

‘Then what is your objection?’ asked Achallor.

‘There is no objection. I state these facts because I would use them to strengthen my request for a favour, from you who ask so many brave men and women to go to their deaths so your mission might be achieved.’

‘And what is that, General Luthor Dvorgin?’ Achallor asked.

‘Do not fail,’ Dvorgin said. Some of the stiffness went from him. ‘Some would call it blasphemy to even think you could, but you are flesh and blood, though mighty, so I ask that you do not allow yourselves to be killed, and that you do my warriors the honour of winning quickly. Please. I would dearly like as many of my men as possible to live to see the arrival of Roboute Guilliman.’

Achallor stared down at him. Dvorgin stood his ground, sweat springing from his brow. His eyes twitched when Achallor’s gold-clad hands swung in front of him and made the sign of the aquila. He bowed to this brave, tired little man.

‘As you command, general,’ said Achallor. ‘If the Emperor had but a few more men as bold as you, we would not need to be here at all.’

General survives and ends up in G-mans favor, likely to lead a crusade to retake Mordian his home planet.[/spoilers]

Prussians and USMC, or a general archetype of "Parade uniform" troops.

Imperial Guard regiments are often based on an archetype, it's not always "X in space". Praetorians, which are mordians with a headswap, are very much based on a single movie (scene, even), but outside of that you can assume whatever regiment has been spruced up by expanding the inspiration source.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was some US Civil war or even napoleonic in there.

They are, the shoulder slots might fit but the backpacks each one needs are molded to the details of that specific torso+leg combo. That being said, the arms also work across the ETBs. Anywhere an ETB has an individual arm on a peg slot, instead of moulded to the torso, you can swap in one of the MP arms. You can also trim the peg on the ETB arm that should have gone there, and put it on a MP body. This is also true for warbikers, though the caveat there is that the arm with the lead pipe for a weapon hangs down too far to be held by an infantry model, the pipe would be propping the model and base off the ground.

Every time they're mentioned in a codex it's German stereotypes, WW1 Germany allegories or a PopHis understanding of the 19th century Prussian/German military.
>The rule of the Tetrarchs was harsh, autocratic and above all absolute, a necessity due to planet's scarce and strictly-rationed resources (10th codex, WW1 Germany)
>Iron Guard are named and renowned for their iron resolve and their dour and unforgiving natures (10th codex, German stereotype)
>Training consists of endless repetition (10th codex, PopHis Prussia)
>A Mordian Iron Guard regiment in battle is a solid wall of brightly-uniformed, perfectly-formed soldiers who cut through the enemy's ranks with precisely-timed volleys of fire behind a hedge of polished bayonets (5th codex, PopHis Prussia but I'd give it to most "martial tradition" stereotypes as well, even the British Army)
>Besides their preference for infantry, the Mordians also are renowned for precise artillery (10th codex, WW1 Germany)
Their old sculpts have Aquilas styled after Reichsadlers, and the old commanders' hats have Imperialis markings styled after the Totenkopf (which was used by Prussian soldiers since Frederick the Great and only fell out of favor after the SS used it).

The inspirations are *very* one-note with the Mordians. Euros don't really think about the USMC unless in the context of WW2, especially back in the 80s/90s when the Mordians came about.

Because we're not talking about substituting dedicated weapon squads with tactical intercessors, we're talking about giving the basic troop extra weapons in addition to having dedicated weapon squads. I miss the older lore where Sister were such fanatics that they even hated Space Marines for being mutants/abhumans and traitors, treating them as at best necessary evils.

That said they will tolerate Astropaths, Navigators, and Inquisitors. . . begrudgingly. Your average sanctioned psyker though? Expect them to be kept on the absolute shortest of leashes around Sisters lest they be slain for the slightest of reasons.

Sisters are not particularly fond of psykers, the clue is that they have zero psyker units in their entire codex line-up and that Black Templar are the Marine Chapter most closely aligned with the church and notably hate psykers and cannot take Librarians.

Inquisitors is a VERY different story. The most powerful Lord Inquisitors usually ARE psykers. It's pretty convenient for your job investigating heresy, uprooting daemonic cults, and being targeted for assassination, to be able to literally mind probe people and read their thoughts, shoot daemon-killing magic lightning, and foresee danger before it happens or be able to form magic forcefields at the speed of thought.

Esienhorn stuff is fun. Its got a bit more meat but its still pulp.
The stand alone Titanicus is pretty great.
Night Lords triliogy and Lord of Night are both enjoyable. ADB gets very repetitive after that.
The Shira Calpurnia series is an interesting arbite procedural.
Pawns of Chaos and Daemon World are old but good.
There's solid short stories in Deadzone.
The ancient Ian Watson stuff is odd but Space Marine and Inquisitor are actual scifi.
Same for the Dark Future stuff if you want post apocalyptic.
First 3-7 HH are not bad to passable, it gets bad fast even during that, not sure if I recommend but could be interesting to you.
The first Arhiman wasn't bad, gets a bit stale with the twsiting and whatnot but if you like that style its probably good.
Word Bearers trilogy and Storm of Iron are fun if you want cartoon action hour villainy.
Deff Squadron is a silly comic but good times.
The old Inferno Magazine is good if you like 2000AD and Heavy Metal magazine style shorts.

I don't think that's how it works. Anarchy is about a lack of structure, Chaos isn't a lack of structure, it's structures fighting themselves. In effect it looks like anarchy, but in practice it's everyone wants total control and obedience of everyone else.

In short: Chaos doesn't want anarchy, at best it can create it.

If you were talking about general anarchy, sure, maybe, but anarchy as a political system is something specific.

It's simply the very common conflict of self interested corrupt (literally) people being jealous of an existing system (regardless of its flaws) because it has power/is the status quo, and trying to take over or purposefully destroy it if that's not possible.

Contrary to popular belief, not everything is political, neither in the "current political events" nor in the "general political thoughts" sense.

Did the people who participated in the big pot that is warhammer & 40k have opinions? Sure. But 40k is very much a game that doesn't take itself too seriously. It doesn't draw from history to make a point, but rather because it inspires the game.

That's why orks are inspired by hooligans, nazis, mongols, etc. Not as a statement, but because it helped feed the character of that specific race/species of hyper-violent aliens.

Same reason why the imperium draws from our history: you want something dark and gritty for your wargame that has billions of reasons to go to war and have conflict.

While the last decade and more has seen some romantization of chaos, at its core chaos is just evil people pleasing evil gods for evil reasons by doing evil things. The depth isn't in the philosophy, it's in the events and story that take place thanks to the character of the faction.

Thank you for reading my blog.

That sort of thing is really best kept to skirmish scale stuff like Necromunda or Kill Team. The logistical complexity grows exponentially with more units.

I see. You'll either enjoy the LARP or get tired of it not working; hopefully you enjoy this journey and don't get discouraged by guard being aggressively un-fun in a lot of situations.

Mortars are not a "strong" pick IMO, but they serve a use in causing your enemy to funnel into killzones that you've set up with the rest of your army. Artillery (either the Field Ordnance Battery or the Artillery Team) are better at this job though. Consider getting an Artillery Team, and make sure you get another command squad. Don't buy commissars unless you want to play Ogryns and Ratlings.
>Also the combat patrol has one

That's a cool idea, be careful about accessing minis.
Usually those kinds of complex boards are for games like necromunda, mordheim or even kill team because of the low amount of minis to handle. With skirmish games you'll quickly come to understand why it's not as common.

But remember: necessity is the mother of innovation, so keep at it and do try it, you'll adapt and invent as hurdles appear.

>the heavy weapon squads can always be reconfigured
The assembly of each reuses the same parts, and the only ones that share a basic format are the lascannon, autocannon and heavy bolter. The mortar and missile launcher both have unique poses and unique part usage. You can't really "reconfigure" them if you set them up with mortars, you'll end up buying another 6 boxes of heavy weapons squads for the lascannon/autocannon/heavy bolter tripod, and then another 6 boxes if you want to set them up with missile launchers too.
I don't think you want to own 18 HWS.
>>
>>98647967
I'd argue it suits earlier editions of 40k great but nowadays there's too many models.
>>
>>98648025
I did a little reading and theres a guy for sure who put magnets on top of the mount for the one that's not a tripod to switch out the non-mortar and rockets. I was thinking about looking into seeing if one can magnetize both the bottom of the weapon mounts and the tops to switch between tripod and whatever the other thing is as well as the weapon on top of the mount but like I started, I've never even seen these things yet so I dunno.
>>
>>98647965
Black Templars need both the space marine codex and the Black Templars codex supplement, or you can just use wahapedia and newrecruit for free. You can run them with arbites, but they're allies, and allies don't get any of your army-specific buffs or abilities, so people usually only use allies when they're just uniquely good on their own, like a single Callidus assassin or something.
>>
>>98648025
and yeah, I don't want to buy that many things. The Random Bullshit. I still don't know wtf you're trying to do with this list, it's full of allies and legends, so it's not going to be good, so why are you fine tuning it like it matters?
>>
>>98648036
The tripod legs that the mortar and missile launcher both use are way too small to be magnetized in the traditional sense, and the missile launcher cannibalizes the mortar tube for itself so you either end up piecemealing the entire kit to be modular or having to choose.
I generally pick to go with the tripod cemented to my base and choose between lascannon/autocannon/heavy bolter (it's always lascannon), I've never needed a mortar because I run a Field Ordnance battery if I'm playing with infantry guard and I've never even considered the missile launchers.
>magnets on top of the mount
You don't even have to magnetize it, the mount is push-fit into the "gun" part. Yes you might want to *eventually* because push-fit parts wear over time, but you can easily get away with it for a long time as long as you aren't swapping the gun back and forth once every 15 seconds.
>>98648053
The Krieg HWS is phenomenal as a close range "nobody comes here" unit because of its heavy flamers the other HWS don't have access to. Stick it onto an objective and that point is much harder to take for your opponent, especially if they push you with infantry (yes, even marines). That is the use of the Krieg HWS.
Krieg in general are the "stuck-in defender" archetype for guard units, that's what they're good at.
Death riders are decently good, they have good damage output even against vehicles (melta lances) but they need good cover and maneuvering by you to not just die instantly. They greatly benefit from their character (Lord Marshal Dreir) as well, so maybe consider getting him.

The only "save money" thing I'm aware of in regards to HWS are a few people that sell resin copies of the tripod legs so you can double-dip and build 2 squads (sans men and bases) out of 1 box. You'd still have to pick between mortar or missile launcher though.
>buying 10 shock troops and 10 jungle fighters just to finish my HWSs
The Cadians and Catachans in those kits aren't posed to fit into the HWS models, you'll have a bit of a hard time making it work. The support guy would be easy, but the actual "operating the mortar/gun" guy would not be.

Little bit after that I had a 2v1 match where me and my friend played two 1k point armies against a 2k point army. Because we had just started 40K and we didn't have enough models for 2k points and all the experienced guys in my LGS wanted to play 2k.

Did they change rules for crucible characters in 11th? Newrecruit is behaving weirdly, telling me each weapon is 5 more points, and specialism having no effect.
>>
>>98648289
Those are probably recasts or resin, fwiw just off of "site that sells singular bits from 40k kits" unless they buy others' used sprues and part them out; that's really novel if that is the case though.
Be careful when assembling mixed materials because you have to use cyanoacrylate glue instead of plastic cement, assuming these parts are resin.

Yea those are all cut off of GW sprues, they're original parts cut out of sprues (either left over or done on purpose just parting out a kit) and you can use plastic cement on them.

For lack of a better metaphor, treat them like Bricklink for Lego where you can buy individual parts specifically.

>>
>>98648463
>we have an alternating fight phase
As I understand in 11th there isn't alternation in the fight phase, there's a set order with 3 steps.
>>
>>98648475
No
>>
>>98648404
Nah, game's way to asymmetrical for alternative activations to work.
>>
>>98648404
yes, since a big deal of 40k's problems come from alpha striking, or otherwise an excessive amount of firepower making the game a landslide.

but also alternating activations on their own do little other than slowing down the game and requiring an extra stat and rules or points recounts mid game to avoid the issues of msu being used to waste the opponent's activations before activating all of the useful units unopposed, or the use of a few large units allowing one player to activate every gun they have way before the opponent.

two much easier solutions are target priority rules to allow players to force their opponents to spread their firepower across the army by positioning units right and crossing fire, rather than focusing it freely and almost unopposed on the most important and ideal targets every time; and also reducing mortality by having shooting cause effects other than death (like forcing a move towards/away or forcing a shootout), having more mechanics about recursive troops, and shifting the overall toughness of units so that they're way tougher when they engage the opponent the ideal way but weaker when they're outflanked or caught while doing something else.

responsiveness is also an issue of the game, since it can often feel like you're playing a stat check and might as well play solo, but you can add that with stratagems and special rules for out-of-turn actions without having to juggle alternated activations.
>>
>>98648490
I don't think alpha striking has been a thing since 7th.
>>
>>98646259
I know it's not really their 'thing' but god I want a 3rd party to do a full on felinid abhuman McConnell regiment of models that's basically just that famous image of catgirls with giant glamrock hairdos for both the men and the women
>>
>>98648477
Players alternate through two phases, "fights first" and then everything else. Why comment when you have no idea how the game works?
>>
>>98648490
>>
>>98648518
Because in practice alternation doesn't really happen unless you use a stratagem or fights first since charges fight first.

I don't want my Grey Knights to get a refresh. Not only will all of them become fucking monopose units. But the prices will rise so much. Like right now a 10 man interceptor squad costs 55€. When the refresh comes they will probably sell interceptors in boxes of 5 and they will probably be like 65€ or something like that. So 10 man interceptors squads will go from 55€ to 130€.

Painboy = $34 (that is 1/3rd of the price of the Armageddon Kommand Krew where he is included)

Deff Dread = $62

In todays prices the start collecting set includes $203 dollars worth of stuff when it cost just $85 during 8th edition.

Agreed I think they should really drop editions alongside a few major faction codexes
Like 4 or something
