When do we get to the cool planeswalkers like Sorin
I am curious to play with the new Fractured Reality cards on Arena draft. In terms of IRL play, I am probably going to skip the set.
Oh fuck, this is relevant to my interests.. I have not been paying attention to new sets or Arena for almost a year and did not even know about this Emrakul until right now. I was playing my Butcher of Truth deck on Saturday.
i can't wait to get the new emmy for my baral deck. exile it to ramp after there were no good spells to counter, time twister effect to refill the hand while still keeping emmy available, then going for a big high tide turn that casts emmy and then untaps all my islands for MOAR BIG MANA. fuck, what a good finisher.>>98646555i want to see more davriel, dihada, and tezz. estrid and grist would be cool to see more of. lots of characters without cards that could be cool walkers as well. crucius would be nice to see. it would also be fun to see another azor creature card with his reality fracture card being him as a planeswalker.
>>98646706Some lore for Estrid and Grist would be great.I know Grist has the comic but I don't think thats considered canon?Speaking of tezz, what the fuck was the point of EoE? >>98646992new decks, limited, cube. building a cube is fun, fun seeing how it plays out and hearing from players what they think should be cut/changed. it takes more brainpower to build a good, functional cube than a commander deck. you can also make cubes around specific concepts or mechanics. i have two cubes i am building: one based around the modular mechanic and another that is MASSIVE (with some collation being done to make your "packs", separating different groupings of cards into new "rarities" so that each pack has a certain amount of cards from each "rarity") to simulate something more of a chaos draft or a mystery booster draft.

>>98647426for comparison overwrite the multiverse replaces itself and has the potential to give you more
>>98647194I wouldn't care as much if they'd made any real effort to justify it in-universe. There was another bloodless revolution between the events of Aether Revolt and Aetherdrift because the post-revolutionary government wasn't revolutionary enough, but the NEW one was all good and pure and so renamed the world.Fuck that. Have the post-revolution government run into similar allocation and logistical issues and fragment. Have multiple competing factions and governments with their own utopian ideals trying to become top dog, with the core aether network now being managed by wealthy industrialists who are more interested in keeping the lights turned on than in politics--a heterogenous group that can contain legitimately aspirational geniuses and people who want their thumbs as close to the scales as possible, but who are still interested in stability over all else.Given the rapidity and frequency of collapse, people could have become jaded with the promises of the old regime, with the phrase "Kaladesh failed" gaining prominence. That would encourage the nascent governments to avoid the word, each trying to present their own vision of the future. But since none of them would be able to claim dominance, people would just start referring to the world by the term the industrialist collective used for their power grid--both explaining why it's kind of a lame name ("We weren't actually intending to rename the world") and sowing the seeds for the industrialists becoming the reluctant de facto government.

>>98647734Correct. It wasn't so much about stomping them, but sending a message. If your deck folds without your commander, it's a bad deck.
I'm jelly of the creativity of good deck builders. All I can do is good_stuff.slop and cummander_builds_itself.dec.Meanwhile some guys turn commander decks into pieces of art.
>>98647753>If your deck folds without your commander, it's a bad deck. This is always the biggest trvthnvke I struggle to swallow. I LIKE building decks around my commander, because I feel like it's the point of the format. It just sucks that doing so basically guarantees you won't win against anyone actually competent, which thankfully, most commander players are not.
Thirty (30) starting life is objectively superior to fourty (40)
>>98647757>All I can do is good_stuff.slop and cummander_builds_itself.dec.It's mostly just knowing how to use scryfall, truthfully. But the best way to get better at making more creative decks is to just make piles of shit based off jokes. https://moxfield.com/decks/mf5ngfcqnE6DcejlYvE7yAThe entire punchline of this deck is the elephant in the room. (mostly) every card has an elephant in the art and then I ran every room spell I could. To find what I wanted, I just looked up t:elephant on scryfall, clicked the first card, then went to the tagger to see what art tags it had. Then i found out about art:elephant. From there, I just added the commander color restriction and the format I wanted (commander), and just perused that. Then I just typed up t:room and added what rooms I could, regardless of synergy or usefulness. It's not a particularly good deck, but it is kinda funny to pull out and have people realize the theme halfway through the game.
>>98647753Cool anyway let's see how much those Arcum decks are struggling since they can't function without their commander.

>>98647753I'll let CEDH know all their decks are bad.
>>98647762You can build the deck around the commander and still have it function without it. You just have to avoid being too greedy.
>>98647881You can just say you never played against good players if you expect monoblue to not hold up its primary form of interaction when it's trying to win the game.
>>98647883For sure, but I also think it very much depends on the commander. Like my dragonhawk deck will still function alright without the commander, because at the end of the day it's still a deck of 4/x fliers, but something like an eluge deck gets raped bigly if you don't have him out
I hate this cool fucker is too slow for format unless I play like the most lame control deck i can and even then he's probably just going to get hit with a sacrifice effect or something

The only deck that manages to pull off aggro somewhat well is Merry, and she's turbocharged to specifically do that, getting to turn 4 to cast le dog sounds kinda troublesomeThe only other parallel is Quintorius (forma de SoS), but his whole deck is very memey and built around doing one thing and one thing only

>>98648640I feel they justified it well enough by basically making the win Zendikar's, not the planeswalkers. Nissa is linked to the living heart of the entire plane, and Zendikar is repeatedly noted to have formidable strength to its mana. It's a once in a lifetime victory that cannot be replicated even by the same characters so long as they're on any other world. Nissa is Zendikar's strongest soldier and Zendikar is the multiverse's strongest plane. So there and only there, she is the winner of all fights by default. Even against gods and abominations.

>>98648622>I removed Doubling Season from one of my decks for this exact reason. It acted as expensive removal bait instead of any kind of help. But that's good. If it sticks around probably got your mana's worth. It's about risk reward. If you're deck doesn't do enough stuff with Doubling Season to make it worth it then it's your decks fault not Doubling Season. Caged Sun is another card like that. It's a removal magnet, but if you untap with it in the right deck it makes a huge difference.

But with an edict creature, you kill 3 creatures for the price of 1, and when your commander wants as many things dying as possible, throwing down a 2 drop and kill 3 things is kind of huge for getting him big quickly. Sarulf WILL draw removal pretty fast once you start nuking stuff so you want to make sure that you keep everyone else's board clear of stuff in case you lose him

Do you pronounce it "frample" or "flample?"I guess "both (horrible fake Japanese accent)" is a valid answer.
>>98649817Depends on what your deck is trying to do. If it’s mainly equipment focused, cut Sephiroth. If you’re doing whacky token bullshit, cut cloud. It really depends on what you’re trying to do, since presumably cloud isn’t your commander and Sephiroth actually has more bang for your buck and can bring himself back from the graveyard (hell you can mill him and bring him on the battlefield for only 3)

>>98649712Control yourself, anon. With limitations breed creativity. Concentrate on 1-3 decks to be good, and use leftover trash to build other decks. Only buy cards/packs with a set budget and hold youtself to it. Only buy cards you that are expensive staples, cheap staples on the way up, or reserved list cards. Trade junk for what I just said you should buy. Get good at trading and make a trade binder. I did this as a broke college student back in 2009, and now I have a collection worth over 30k, and that's after taking a 11 year break. Play the long game and keep to those rules and you will slowly have an awesome collection. Concentrate your budget on getting a house, car, career and being debt free, then you can spend your disposable income on cards.
>>98649857>With limitations breed creativity.This is a meme
>>98649859Not really. Get comfortable with making janky bracket 1-2 meme decks and then slowly finding ways to bring them up a bracket without expensive cards. Even if you don't do it, you'll enjoy the journey along the way. Everyone should have some bracket 1-2 decks to play with.

>>98649857Thanks for the advice. I’m heavily limiting what I buy for the next few months solely because it’s the holiday season soon and don’t want to be caught lacking with presents this year, and I feel that I can upgrade my current decks via trading rather than buy. Commander should use a point system and divide brackets based on that.>0>10>25>50>100>InfiniteThe anchor point is the OG Moxen are 20 points each. Many staple cards like fetches, Swords, Counterspell, etc. receive small point values of 1-2 points giving player incentive to look for nicher cards without making staples inaccessible. You can transfer it to other sets by changing what you 'behold', it indicates what it does and can be explained intuitively. While some mechanics are cool, "Behold..." is about the limit to how stupid a mechanic can be while still being good design. Examples of mechanics that fail this are Venture into the Dungeon and The Ring Tempts You; they are parasitic and require big ass reminders to teach and refer to. I can kinda give them a small pass for being thematic and interesting as experiments.Empower Jace fails far worse in that it basically requires a bespoke planeswalker token, it produces ambiguity (Jace Planeswalkers already produced other kinds of token Jaces, do these qualify as Jace tokens?) and it is viciously parasitic to a single MTG character (I'm sick of saying Jace by now). Are we going to Empower Bolas or Empower Chandra in another set? Are we looking forward to having a wall of reminder text to tell us what those tokens have?Unless build-a-bear planeswalker turns out to be really cool shit when we actually play it, this is going to just be combo fodder with design that can't even be moved to new sets without making it even MORE of the JACE SHOW ft. >>98652735wow, another rare that is just god awful. even if you could cast it without the threshold it would be unplayable
>>98652752BRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAP
>>98652814>kykar but bad so you can't combo without haste enabler>removal but slowwhat the fuck is up with the powerlevel of this set?
>>98652992They're trying to cram the highest rate of sets into a longer standard window and they already made standard a high power format early into the rotation so now we just get random filler trash. Thank god we have to keep sales growing exponentially.
>>98652922He lost you nigger
>>98652871What a piece of shit trash
I thought this set was going to be monsters and characters colour flipped from across the planes but it’s just planeswalkers and strixhavenCan’t believe I’m actually going to be skipping this set. It sounded so good on paper
is this the best dwarf commander ?
>>98652477I like the idea of build a bear planeswalker, like The Aetherspark, that set that gave you an enchantment that could give a planeswalker new powers and Luxior, Giada's Gift really create fun design spaces for that type of card, but fuck me if amass Jace is almost as bad as day night on keeping track of shit. I appreciate them trying new things but this fucking ain't it, boss
>>98652548A Gideon card in the big 2026? The fuck? My GOAT represented?
>>98653133We've so far gotten flipped non-PW characters from>Ravnica>Innistrad>Duskmourn>Dominaria>Ixalanbut yes also it's basically just the second set in SOS block now with oops all Jace so I'm pretty disappointed
>>98653148Subjectively, I don't agree. I think pic rel is better over all as she can easily fill your hand of dwarves.Objectively? I think Magda is still the top dwarf commander.
The jace being phyrexian couldve been a huge pay off. Emrakul being the multiverse garbage disposal is lame. I was hoping for a new titan or villain, not ‘we made jace trans’I made this while shitting
>>98653148no, that would be Magda, Brazen Outlaw
>>98653324NEW NEW NEW
>>98647753eh, there's more nuance than that. if you have any experience playing ACTUAL magic there's many decks that have a build-around card that is in some cases even more central than many EDH commanders. boros auras in Historic is literally more of a lightpaws EDH deck than actual EDH decks are, or Legacy Stiflenaught, or Neobrand, you can make a deck reliant on a single card as long as forcing opponent's to answer it or lose on the spot is a worthwhile enough strategy, or you can protect it past removal or be able to pivot with sideboarding in games 2 and 3 to a plan B that works alongside your plan A in case your main plan fails. Pre-nerf Companion was literally the strongest mechanic ever printed in the game's history and it was just letting people LARP a commander in Constructed, and even with 3 mana tax Lurrus is still played a lot in the formats it's legal.
>>98648561this card isn't actually Timmy card, it's a Johnny combo piece where you win the game on the spot if it resolves. You are never swinging for damage with this, it's ANY land so you're going to Manamorphose and Pyretic Ritual this shit into a Valakut/Field of the Dead/Maze's End combo victory
>>98653370It's a LARPer that thinks he's good for beating up Timmy but he's too scared to take these "skills" beyond that scope where his play pattern stops working.
>>98646832It's a way of sabotaging the set to justify printing more UB.>well we gave you a whole in-universe set with all your favorite characters! if you really wanted it you'd buy it regardless of the fact we stapled the same shitty planeswalker effect onto half the cards!
>>98652877It's just cantrip storm
>>98652634It's a fucking Avatar reference
>>98652479This but for meIf they cut the fucking Empower Jace bullshit and focused a little less on Hexhaven we could have had a bunch of fun colorshifts. Instead this set feels like it's trying to do too many things at once, really makes you miss set blocks
>>98652440Deliberate set sabotage so they can kill in-universe sets once and for all
>>98652023In case you have forgotten you live in 2026, we all know someone who can read all languages now
>>98655315I simply forgot is all
>>98655465Mana pips need work
>>98655478Taken to heart
>>98655465I am a supporter of the autistic arts. Use these if you want. The blue one was difficult and maybe a bit over-designed, but I couldn't come up with anything better
>>98651061Should he really have the dragon creature type considering that in the WoT universe "dragon reborn" means something completely different?
>>98652356Why the fuck does every fucking card empower Jace? It's like they just threw it in whenever they were designing top-down and couldn't think of anything else for the card to do
>>98655780See >>98655307 >>98654965
>>98655780It’s actually kind of based, it’s like the wotc design team is saying “you legacy niggers that don’t buy new product are obsessed with Jace huh? Well here’s more Jace than you can handle you stupid fuckwits.” Knowing that none of you will buy it and UB will continue to reign supreme in Hasbro board meetings.
