What is the Mechanicum equipment of infantry defending artillery? Their actual artillery units seem quite capable of Frontline combat themselves.

Give the Warhound some defensive guns, even just some heavy stubbers under its chin.
And some anti-air missiles on its back.
And release it in plastic at 28mm scale.
>>
>>98649592
that whole mouth grill could be a big flamer without much fuss
>>
>>98649730
Anon, the whole head is the cockpit. There is zero room behind the grill for a flamer plus fuel tank, never mind the issues that putting such a huge fire hazard inside/right next to the electronics that control the titan would cause.

You'd be an amazing model designer for 40k though.

New release with all Lucius patterns
>>

Nonsense, Anon, there's plenty of room. Plenty.
>>
How fun is Adeptus Mechanicus?
How hard is it to get a game of it online, over TTS for example?
When will we ever get xeno releases?
>>
>>98649592
I think it would be Funny(tm) to give the Warhound arms. Could give it powerfists or lightningclaws or something, call it a Werewolf pattern.
Entire shtick is CCing other titans.
>>
>>98649303
>TQ

I would turn the Warmaster into terrain and a mission objective to sabotage it. That thing does not belong at this scale.
>>
>>98649802
The tubes could run along the edges and have barrels with igniter mounted on the outside with zero encroachment on the cockpit. The fuel tanks could be under the main carapace.
>>
>>98649891
I dislike Lucius but I think it would be nice to have the variety. Especially if a guy with all beetlebacks (are they Mars pattern? I'm not up to date on the lore) plays against a guy with all Lucius.

Even Mechanicum chaff is T5. Against things like thunder hammers they'd rather need support than bodyguards. They're not guardsmen.
>>

Hell yes. I dug out my titans and am getting back into painting them. I wish I didn't use cement on my reavers so I could print lucius plates.
>>
>>98650274
Are these the old FW ones?
>>
>>98649490
Mechanicum, as the army exists does not have artillery in the traditional sense. The closest equivalents would be myrmidon destructors and thanatars, both of which are obviously capable of protecting themselves, of the krioses and karacnos, which are closer to assault guns supporting a grinding advance. What would be artillery would be the skitarii/tech guard, which don't have real rules because GW is a bunch of whiny bitches.
>>
>>98650424
I think Castellax Destructors also fit in there
>supporting a grinding advance
I think this is the key phrase. If the squads you mentioned are supporting someone else's advance ...then which Mechanicum squads are those?
Mechanicum seem a great allied faction...but they don't appear to have any normal squad, as they are all supporters:
>Scouts that go ahead of your forces
Thallax and Vorax
>Big guys that anchor your forces
Thanatars, Myrm- & Castellax-Destroyers
>Linebreakers
Myrm-Secutors, Ursarax, Castellax
>Cannon fodder
Thralls

Who is the Mechanicum they all give support to?
>>
Any anons run seekers, how strong are they, do you run 5 or more man squads?
>>
>>98650424
They used to be able to get all the cool artillery tanks. But no, that was too much fun.

Oh wow! Mechanicum have a detachment with 4 Support slots, and they have 3 types of Support squads: Castellax, Thallax and Thralls (not counting their ZM versions).
And NONE of them may share the detachment with each other, as detachments must be units with the same trait, which none of them share (Cybernetica, Reductor and Lacrymaerta).

I'm tired of this dumb shit. Home rules it is.
>>
>>98650672
>Volkite guns are worse than actual Volkite chargers, aren't they?

>>
Morning all.
I'm sick as a dog and I just wanted to ask you this one thing: how deeply do you go into your Legion's gimmick (special units notwithstanding) when you design your armies? Do you prefer special snowflakes or endless rank and file soldiers?
>>
>>98650643
But weren't they available rules-wise long after the karacnos became a thing?
I'm leaning more towards the "they got cut because GW isn't selling designated kits for them" alternative, which is very much a trend in 3.0 when they got removed.
Retarded shithead execs.
>>
>>98650826
Just play 2.0, 3.0 hasn't added anything of worth anyways, just actively removed large parts of the game.
>>
>>98651029
But minotaurs did have a proper model, what's their excuse? D:
Though I think they were legends by 2E
>>
>>98651036
Not a "mechanicum" minotaur.
Which means they weren't allowed to exist according to upper management's arbitrary corporate rules since they are separate lines or some shit.
>>
>>98651043
I think 1.0 had a rule where you could use any Superheavy and say it was property of the Autokrator (they build everything), and you could give them Mechanicum options.
It was a time of legend
>>
>>98651043
>>98651065
Best Mechanicum rules would be they can use any Imperial vehicle (don't space marines build their gear themselves?). And you'd still not care about bringing things like Russes because you'd be too spoiled with Krioses and Onagers.
>>
>>98651034
I agree with this, screw 3.0
>>
>>98650990
If by "gmmick" you mean the flair each legion has, a decent amount. Wolves are the worst for this I feel, but that's just my own bias I suppose. I've always wanted to try my hand at making my own custom units like the ones shown in the exemplary battles, the trick is to not make them super special mary sues but just a particular unit to fill a particular niche.
>>
>>98651034
>>98651123
New editions release new (marine) units. Backporting them is a hassle.
Otherwise I'd just steal 3.0's volley and disordered charges from non-Assault transports and call it a day.

Somehow it feels easier to restore deleted things into 3.0?

Mfw anon has no reading comprehension.
Fury of Ages exists specifically for Myrmidons, hence they are meant to be supported by Cybertheurgists, all of whom have Comptroller (X), which directly clashes with their Vanguard (X).

Scale creep has been a tragedy for the setting, when even something as enormous as the Leviathan Dreadnought is considered kind of medium

Does GW ever write rules or scenarios as a thank you for long time support? Like , we know you have bought our line X, you can't play it in our core w40k game because it is ment for modern players, but if you want to play your full Nam style Catachan army, here is a set of death world army lists, along side rules for deadly plant life that you convereted for the 3ed Catachan Codex. Do they do stuff like that anymore? Like 13th Company was designed as a thank you to all those SW players that bought double the kits to build SW units to have cool looking Grey Hunters and Blood Claws, and then GW released rules for even cooler Wulfen and Grey Slayers.
>>

Kratos is base 280 pts with either battlecannon or volkite + coax auto cannon. The quad accelator auto-cannon seems like a lateral move so maybe base points remain at 280. It should also lose access to the decurion upgrades for practical reasons. (No turret hatch)

Can you paint over transfers or does the paint not adhere properly? This is a homemade transfer so it will be covered in modge podge if that makes a difference.

I am struggling to freehand an elaborate custom banner design for my World Eaters armoured company and I wasn't sure if I should print a transfer of the outline and fill it in or if I'd be better just printing the outline directly onto my heavyweight art paper.

>>98652746
Oof, yeah 40k is constantly having units removed these last few years. GW is doing everything they can get away with to force people to constantly buy new models, they don't give a shit about people who already have a collection.
What models do you have? Not everything is compatible with HH.
>>
>>98652746
Which army is it? Because I have severe doubts it's playable here. Also GW doesn't write HH rules, SGS does and not a single soul expects anything with the fans' best interest in mind ever coming out again.
>>
>>98652746
You can't also play with your 40k army in the HH game.
There are significant aesthetic and unit composition differences by design.
>>
>>98652738
Nta but in 1.0 there are alternate rules for legio cybernetica and ordo reductor armies in the vein of legion rules, more were planned but then 1.0 went to shit.
>>
>>98651251
There's a good middle ground between the extremes of "dense, impenetrable rules that are a headache to disentangle" and "overly streamlined, gutted garbage made for the lowest common denominator retards".

Modern 40k goes way too far in the latter direction, but 3.0 is slightly too far in the former.
>>
>>98652746
How are people supposed to know this is HH related when none of the examples are HH related and you mention GW?
>>
I'm new and thus ignorant so could some one explain what flavor rites of war gave that is now lost in 3.0? It seems the way the game works now you just take the detatchments you want, like you don't need a rite of war to be an elite terminator force, or fast attack or what have you.
>>
>>98652841
what? HH 3.0 is just badly written, but the ruleset is still simpler than the nu40k cognitive nighmare of overlapping layers of unit stats. stratagems, rules, detachments, subfactions, etc. For every streamlined bit, they added tons of complexity and bloat elsewhere. Losing facings and templates did nothing to make 40k easier beyond the noob level.
>>
>>98652872
Rites also gave special rules and restrictions, restrictions are fun because they force you to play in a way that you normally wouldn't but better reflects the fluff and special rules helped shitty units not be as shitty as they would be if you attempted to just run the same list without the RoW. That's stuff like drop assault vanguard or recon company, there are also some not as cool RoWs like the court of the crimson king (iirc) one which is Magnus in HQ slot, all termies with teleport and fear because fuck you.
>>
>>98652872
Rites of war could add more special rules, that's it. And most people confuse more special rules with more flavour.
Rites of war varied wildly in what they actually did. The benefits ranged from basically nothing to game breaking, and the restrictions ranged from non-existent to crippling enough to lose you every game. FW also had a habit of using Rites of War to fix units that were non-functional, which usually meant that if you got pidgeon holed into playing one specific legion if you liked a certain unit (Want breachers that are useful? Better like Imperial Fists)
>>
>>98652910
>there are also some not as cool RoWs like the court of the crimson king
Anon, this was most ROWs. Just free buffs with the "downside" of making you spam the thing the ROW rewarded you for spamming anyway. The only ROWs with real restrictions were the generic ones and some of the traitor ones because traitors can't have nice things.
>>
>>98652618
Blackshields!
>>
>>98652872
Ah! but your terminators wont have the special rules that push the unit! And everyone knows thats where the flavor comes in!
>>
>>98651749
Your response is idiotic, but I will bite.
First of all, it's a chaos warhound versus an imperial one. Second, the warlord had its own melee weapons, but it was trying to shoot it down, it got cornered and forced into close action with the warhound. Second, Princeps aren't fucking knights or following the 40k Imperial Knight bullshit
>>
>>98652991

I just don't think there is a good reason why the shock lance can't be used as, you know, a lance. They have already created weapons with a dual shooting/melee profile (warmaster iconoclast graviton fist) no reason they can't for a warhound.

I'm still convinced John French made the regular breachers worse just to make his Imperial Fists unit more special, the wardens special rules are something that very clearly should have been on the regular breachers but just were exclusive to an IF special unit for no reason.

>a rocket that uses warp travel to appear in front of or even inside the target
this reads as bullshit because all weaponry might as well work this way. and aren't void shields supposed to block warp travel/teleportations? either way, how do they perform on the table and your headcanons? to me they are just regular rockets that slow down right before hitting a titan so they float through the shield instead of going splat. alternatively they have a void/force shield of their own that cancels the target's shield while sacrificing its volume that would otherwise be 100% TNT. and the warp part refers to the type of explosive (read: vortex missile).
>>
>>98653999
They miss about 90% of the time.
Vortex missiles are great fun though.
>>
>>98653999

I mean, if they COULD they would. But there are practical reasons you cant have handheld bullet teleporters (mind you: it is possible, thats what the shock attack gun is)
>>
Let walords take 4 carapace vortex missiles again

Also let warbringers have carapace plasma annihilators.
>>
>>98653999
if void shields blocked warp travel you'd have to turn them off mid-combat before jumping your ship into the warp, a thing we've literally never heard of

geller fields should block the warp/teleporters but they're something else

a missile that can't be intercepted (which is implied to be part of your hit roll failure rate, not just "shot was off target") is a very useful thing

>now you just take the detatchments you want
No - you take the detachments you can AFFORD; big difference.

Now you need lots of HQ to afford the army you want, much to GW's joy (HQ are their biggest earner$).
Essentially this rant is a tax increase: I didn't mind paying 1 HQ + 2-3 Troops because I was already going to take those.
But now I gotta take 2 Magi if I want to bring one transport. This was a one-man operation, who's the other guy? Now I gotta rework my list to give the second guy a retinue.
That's not the list I want - it's the list GW wants me to want.

This is especially noticeable with Mechanicum because, unlike Marines, they don't have lieutenants or specialists: GW decided to make Techpriests be Troops instead, and deleted their actual troops (Castellax, Thallax, Thralls). And then made it so they can't share a detachment.

It's as if you wanted Breachers and Tacticals, so you had to take a Centurion (Magos) to bring one det. with Tacticals (Thallax) and another one with Breachers (Castellax).
Then take another Centurion for a Land Raider (Triaros), because your army has no Rhinos.
>But you could use a Logistical
Already using it for Terminators (Myrmidons) - that's who's going in the Heavy Transport.

Your Optae are troops and don't unlock detachments, by the way. Enjoy!

they don't teleport they have their own warp drive that they activate. I can see how that would disrupt/get past a void shield as voids don't block the warp, geller fields do that, they just transport the energy from weapons striking them into the warp (and presumably prevent a teleport locus being acquired through them but idr if that's ever explained). a warp missile is translating from the warp into the target while the void shield works the opposite way

Really if void shields stopped anything warping into them no niggas would ever get subsumed into a spacehulk or die horribly from translating form the warp into the same space as another object.

>>98654241
>Waaaaah I have to bring more than one single commander waaaaaah
This is literally something only you have an issue with. Everybody who actually plays the game has always had more HQ than they were legally allowed in a list. Because swapping around characters keeps things interesting, they're easy to convert/kitbash, but most of all because people think characters are cool. And since times immemorial, they complained about not being able to bring more than 3 HQ choices. Now they finally can. There's even a reason to take a centurion now, where in previous editions there was literally zero reason not to spend the +15 points or whatever to upgrade them to a consul.
Most lists that I've seen people play still have more command choices than they need for detachments. This was a change the players wanted, if you don't want to have to bring commanders go play 40k or AoS or something.
>>
>>98654241
You're a retarded marine player, 75% of your mech army fits in your apex and your magi are the lynchpin of your army anyway, and the most fun models to convert that you'll take any excuse to run more of. This is like a tyranid player complaining he has to take synapse creatures.
>>
>>98654241
Anon, the average player already had far more Hqs than they could ever use, character models are the most ubiquitous models people tend to have relative to how many they need (and the cheapest to get if you dont have them, because you can literally just take a dude with a power sword and say "praetor with paragon blade")

What the fuck is this schizophrenic bullshit.

>admech
All of their units are bullshit overtuned, thats the trade off. You cant have your breachers AND your terminators easily because both of those units are extremely powerful specialists with the inherent balancing act of "opportunity cost in things they dont do" rather than pts (where they are all criminally undercosted).

The reason admech arent allowed to soup easily this edition is because they get to be insanely broken at what they choose to do, which means if they could ALSO cover their weaknesses on top of that it would be too much.
>>
>>98654398
Actually, its even better than that. The current default loadout for a character is (in the case of centurions and praetors) a bolter. You can literally just take a tactical with a fancy hat and call it a day.

I have 20 Wulfen. 40 Grey slayers in units of 8 with special weapons. A Rune Priest, Wolf Priest and Wolf lord, 4 Rhinos, 15 Long Fangs with Rocket Launchers , 30 Blood claws in two units of 15. I also have and unsensible number of terminators. Even when I did not play every few months I would just buy a box of regular or relic terminators and kitbash a unit of 5-10
I think I have like 80-100 of them. With all legal and illegal weapon combinations. Swords and bolters, claws, claws and axes, hammers, maces and relic guns a full 10 man unit of various Rune Priests in relic terminator armour with force weapons taken from various kits. Since we're on the topic of Wolves, I was wondering: did the TSons cause regular Swolves to mutate into Wulfen during the Burning of Prospero, or were pre-existing Wulfen just brought into that battle? Or both?
>>
>>98656669
"During the planetary assault on Prospero, the extreme psychic backlash, warp-sorcery used by the Thousand Sons, and the chaotic ferocity of the combat acted as a massive catalyst.
The Space Wolves didn't just stumble into battle; pushed to their absolute limits, they actively unleashed their hidden Wulfen packs into the fray against Magnus's sorcerers.
The sheer concentration of warp energy on the doomed world forced the latent curse to erupt in a large number of legionnaires simultaneously—notably devastating elements of the Space Wolves' 13th Great Company, who subsequently vanished into the Warp while pursuing retreating traitors"

So both.

Space Wolves
>Pros: Vikings in Space

Alpha Legion
>Pros: Cool paint scheme, cool gameplay mechanics
>Cons: Negative connotation due to tricky rules, can’t use everything like demon/chaosy looking units like esoterics, your special units are trapped behind conversion kits for OOP models or manlet terminators

Solar Auxilia
>Pros: Guard in Horus Heresy
>Cons: So many models, you are regular humans in the super human game

Sons of Horus
>Pro: Main characters who get all of the toys and can use everything
>Cons: Rules seem mediocre and bland, your special units are manlets or upgrade sets for units no longer being sold (justinians)

AL lets you take some modeling liberties on borrowing units depending on how you interpret Rewards of Treachery, and canonically they have appeared in various colors. But yeah, legion drip and wargear can be in an awkward place unless you get FW characters or have access to 3D prints.

Auxilia at the very least have a Combat Force box that's pretty good for buying repeats and you can work them into being allies for another army with fluffy rules.

Two more despoilers, one with power axe (so I guess thats what the unit(s) will have, power axes as the power weapon, because mixing different kinds feels wrong).

Bit heavier on the greebles (shoulder pad + backpack), but it feels sorta in line with NL aesthetic sensibilities to just have skulls and evil faces on shit, theyre not exactly subtle with what theyre about.

What should I give the sgt (if anything)?
>>
>>98659434
NL seems like a good excuse to put a pair of lightning claws on the sergeant. Those +2 attacks are just amazing.
>>
>>98659447
Two issues there:
I already put the cool claws on the assault squad sgt (hes there on the right)
I dont know if terror squad sgts can take twin claws, if memory serves they cant. And I kind of want to have the unit double as a terror squad if needed.

But yea, twin claws is otherwise a good idea. I might go with a legitimate chainblade/glaive for the memes (its not worth it).

I also recently bought a bunch of the old GK parts, so I might go with a "paired swords" take on twin LC if I do go for it (not technically WYSIWYG, but theres no other paired weapons so its good enough for me)

It's pretty obvious there never was new tartaros kit, that has always been baseless conspiracy. Tartaros not having melee weapon options was the result of shitty rules writing and lack of proper proof reading, both of which are basically tradition at GW. Don't understand why people felt the need to hallucinate a new reason, there's dozens of these kinds of errors every time GW releases new rules.

Plasma pistol is generally kinda shit because Breaching (5+) isn't good enough
Also counting volley fire you realistically only get to use it twice before you charge
Gets a bit better if you play Sons of Horus because they get full BS volley attacks but you still get the feel there's better uses of 5pts
>>
>>98650563
>how strong are they
Quite good because S4 Breaching (4+) might as well be an AP2 weapon and Seekers get it at 30" on 2 shots, it's just that Terminators are T5 this edition so you only wound on 5+
>squad size
Take 10 models, they're cheap as fuck for what they do and you don't get that many Elites unless you play DA/AL

>>98652841
3.0 is definitely not complicated as HH editions go
Rites of War were a thing in previous editions and a bunch of characters gave unit/army buffs
Eliminating rerolls in 3.0 removed dumb situations where you actively wanted to fail hit/wound rolls so you got more chances to reroll and trigger stuff like Rending

If you could give /your legion/ a fluffy exemplary battles-style unit(s), what would it be?

For me, it'd be:
>Ashen Circle Outrider Squad
>3-10 guys in the Recon slot
>Everyone is equipped with an Axe-Rake, Bolt Pistol and Twin Akkadic Flamer (S5 AP4 Panic (3) flamer, mounted on the bike)
>The entire unit may exchange their Twin Akkadic Flamer for a Twin Meltagun (S9 meltagun) Not entirely sure on this one, melta-bikers might be busted in 3.0 or Twin Plasma Gun/Warpfire Blaster
>Any model may exchange their Bolt Pistol for an Akkadic Hand Flamer (same as the regular Ashen Circle)
>Iconoclast (Sergeant) may exchange their Bolt Pistol for an Inferno Pistol or Plasma Pistol/Warpfire Pistol and take Phosphex Bombs
>Vanguard (3), Bulky (2), Firestorm, Implacable Advance, Outflank
>Same Harbingers of Truth special rule as Ashen Circle (buffing both versions of their flamers)
>Bitter Duty but can also be joined by Chaplains, psyker Consuls (Diabolists/Librarians/Esoterists) or Praetors with Burning Lore like how regular Ashen Circle should be

>Ashen Circle Jetbike Squadron
>3-10 guys in the Fast Attack slot
>Everyone is equipped with an Axe-Rake, Bolt Pistol and Akkadic Heavy Flamer (S6 AP4 Panic (2) heavy flamer, mounted on the bike)
>The entire unit may exchange their Akkadic Heavy Flamer for a Multi-Melta or Plasma Cannon/Warpfire Projector
>Other options same as above
>Special rules as above, swapping Firestorm/Implacable Advance/Outflank for Deep Strike

Entirely inspired by some old art I swear I once saw of Word Bearers bikers at Istvaan and pic related which I found while trying to find said art plus the fact I currently wish Axe-Rakes were a legion armoury option so I could put them on my outriders

They don't. The wulfen pads are designed to fit Marine sized shoulders while tartaros are designed for terminator sized shoulders. Geigor has the shoulder pad design because old Bjorn art had it. Several pieces of old HH art has marines with a cataphractii style curved shoulder plate on one side.

A while ago I wanted to make clean sci fi building terrain ala battletech meant to represent Ultramar before Angron and Lorgar fucked it all up but anons suggested making it grimey in some way.

An anon posting Judge Dredd ITT reminded me of a prog where some mutants/various scum are moved from a slum tower into a brand new one and immediately ruin it into another slum tower so I just have to model some of the copy paste apartment buildings like that with spray tags and trash etc.

Obviously with 1980s Judge Dredd being wacky af the story ends with their posh neighbor tower's civil defence troops firing a low powered sonic beam cannon at the slum tower causing a mutant coup d'etat that dredd has to hostage negotiate.

>Tzeentch Daemons can give enemy units +1 line
That's hilarious
>>
>>98661956
but why?
>>
>>98661568
Ngl both of those feel rather overtuned. Youre taking what is already a potentially very strong unit (ashen circle/a destroyer variant) and putting them on unit types that mitigate a lot of their existing weaknesses (low durability - bikes have 2w - and niche weapons (via universal plasma options and so on)).

AND youre giving them character access for some reason, a thing destroyers dont get and shouldnt really get. AND you give them better versions of the already really potent akkadic hand flamers that you proceed to also BUFF.

The idea of "Biker ashen circle" can work, but they should be just that, ashen circle on bikes, not getting a bunch of random stuff on top of that.
>>
>>98661963
It is peak Tzeentch fuckery, so it makes perfect sense from a thematic angle. But if the model using the special rule fails his willpower check, line on the target unit is reduced by -1, to a minimum of 0, so the idea is probably trying to fail the check on purpose to reduce the enemy's scoring.
>>

>>
>>98662019
What do you want your destroyers to do?

>Throw rad grenades before charging then fuck shit up in melee with some power weapons: assault destroyers
>>
>>98661568
>plus the fact I currently wish Axe-Rakes were a legion armoury option
They would need to be VERY different to work if that were true. Its phage(M) anon, that shit is fucking insane and the ability to just sprinkle it around would be overpowered.

As a special weapon for a specific (and niche) unit with clear weaknesses it works, as a thing you now just put in your despoilers? it would be unbearable.

>sgt melee weapons options + 5ppm chainblades/chainglaives
>veteran statline (ws5 3a 2w)
>same special rules as terror squad
>can swap bolt pistols for ranged options/legion pistols
>ranged options are volkite chargers, bolters, shotguns, rotor cannon, flamer

20pts.
>>
>>98661985
Fair critique, the plasma was just because the bikes normally get it but you're right that adding it is dumb. As for the Akkadic Flamers, that was just trying to work out what bigger versions of them would be.

Sole thing I disagree with you on is characters, Ashen Circle not being able to have Chaplains attached is retarded because it was possible back in 1.0 before shrimplified not shrimple kicked in.
>>
>>98662060
Bitter duty was a thing in previous editions buddy. But also: I dont really care what destroyers could or couldnt do in previous editions because destroyers sucked (both individually and as a unit type) in those editions, while theyre finally a real unit in 3e.
>>
>>98662067
>As for the Akkadic Flamers, that was just trying to work out what bigger versions of them would be.
Dont, give them akkadic hand flamers + regular bike loadout. Thats ALREADY really strong because the akkadic hand flamer is really strong.
>>

Yeah and Ashen Circle had an exemption to let them run with Chaplains
>>
>>98662082
I understand youre being retarded on purpose and are also most likely nogames. But yes actually, sticking chaplains where they dont necessarily belong is a potential issue.

Destroyers (in general, not specifically ashen circle but also probably them) are glass cannons, they do not have access to nuncio voxes or easy access to characters which means they both die easily (3+ 1w) and are vulnerable to statuses (such as from getting shot). This helps balance the fact that destroyers have insanely high damage output which, due to how they work, they can dish out repeatably and safely (largely via volley fire). Letting destroyers take a cheap, combat effective, consul that mitigates their morale vulnerabilities threatens to change that, and you end up with a resiliant, fast, high damage unit instead.

This becomes doubly an issue for the proposed homebrew changes, which would already make them both faster and more durable.
>>
>>98662096

>>

>>
>>98662143
Anon the rad grenades on destroyers are largely cosmetic. The volkites/flamers do far more damage.

That twin S4 template per guy on the charge (+ template in the shooting phase) does a lot more than one Ap3 poison 2+ grenade.

Yes. Light + Combat Shield = Automatic +2 to his Focus rolls, cancelling out the Thunder Hammer

4+ save doesn't matter when every other duelist has AP2 anyway.

And with an AL power dagger + shotgun Effrits he gets +4 Focus not counting outside support and the shotguns stunning his victim in advance
>>
>>98662163
The dagger only does something if youre using it, it doesent give you +1I on the hammer

Yes anon, the volkites are simply objectively worth it. Especially since youre taking rad missiles anyways. Im sorry this is how you find out you're bad at maths. But a 70%~ damage increase for +5ppm is well worth it.
>>
>>98662172
Oh no yeah, AL variant drops the Hammer entirely for the Power Dagger.

He'll have +4 to +6 to Focus and the other guy will be at I1 so you can pretty confidently use Grandstand to go to 8 attacks (4 + 1 for Paragon of Battle + 2 for the converted Outside Support + 1 for winning the Focus roll)

>>98662195
Not the guy you're arguing with but how is >>98662099 and >>98662133 not cuckshit?
>>
>>98662202
Why grandstand over finishing blow or even just fury of blows? +2A is the average fury result anyways and this way you dont lose the +2 to focus. And finishing blow moves you from D1 to D2.
>>
>>98662176
NTA, but Are YOU? Volkites are their best upgrade, a mere 5 points a model to double their firepower and get +1 strength for a miniscule decrease in range when you're trying to get danger close anyway. Not even twin hand flames are a poor choice with access to rad grenades pre charge, but they're held back by having to prevent friendly fire and the fact that most people aren't running big units after artillery buffs.
>>
>>98662207
Yeah my bad on that one
>>
>>98662199
>serpentas + grenade
40*2/3*5/6*1/3+40*2/3*5/6*1/3*5/6*1/3+10*2/3*5/6 =15

Not using the grenades on the shooting attack to buff your Serpentas to wounding on 2s is unironically retarded (just like you)
>>
>>98662213
Apparently people who upgrade to volkites/flamers obsess over them and don't use the rad grenades, judging by >>98662199
>>
>>98662220
Anon twin serpentas do more than a grenade.

>pistols
4*2/3*2/3*1/3+4*2/3*2/3*1/3*2/3*1/3 = 0.72

>grenade
2/3*5/6 = 0.56

Yes, you want the phage to buff the serpenta shooting. But you both wouldnt fire the whole squad worth of grenades (you only need a few to get phage done) if you were using grenades and you wouldnt be using grenades in the first place (you would be using the longer range and higher shot volume rad missiles)
>>
>>98662199
The thing is, accounting for the cost of volkites vs bolt pistols (240 vs 190 for a 10 man squad), the damage is basically the same point for point.

And there are far better options on other units to spend those 50 points on unless you're ONLY taking Destroyers for some reason
>>
All this maths is retarded because it assumes the unit will always be in range to use every weapon and always at full strength/efficiency

Just take a loadout that's fluffy for your army
>>
>>98662235
Welll... Not really.

190/8.5 = 22.35 points per wound
240/14.5 = 16.55 pts per wound

Its what, 35% more efficient?

Its a pretty damn big increase in effectiveness. And that increase is important because destroyers are a very close range (and very fragile) unit, they need to make that damage count because theyre inevitably going to be exposed for counterpunch by whatever is left (if nothing else, and theres usually something else).

If youre low on pts or just want some phage/phosphex monkeys bolt pistol destroyers can work, take some squads of 5 and be a nuisance, but volkites (or flamers) is where they really shine, its where you go from "beat up a squad" to "wiped out a squad". With volkite destroyers killing around 8 VEQ over their combined volleys.

After decades of doing the same thing, a lot of people want to try something different - especially creative types. You also see this quite a bit with music bands, a lot try something new after being together for a long time, which usually greatly upsets the existing fans. Blanche probably was getting a bit tired of marines, and felt like trying to re-imagine marines. His actual sketches also looked better than how the models ended up looking if you ask me.

I think I'm still a little bit annoyed that Lucius and Fabius didn't appear a single time in the whole Siege of Terra series. They weren't even mentioned as being present in the solar system at the time. Like ten whole ass novels and three novellas and not a single nod to either one of them.

>here's a bunch of space marines
>but this one space marine armour has to be on a thunder warrior because of reasons
Thunder armour was named after the thunderbolts on the chest. Thunder warriors were not even in the fluff when the MkI was introduced and wouldn't be for over two decades.

Sharrowkyn was a killer more than a master "swordsman". He doesn't play fair and wraith-slips. This excerpt seems to be more describing martial prowess. Sharrowkyn has actual cheat codes and it takes a primarch to stop him. He also may not be widely known because he keeps a low profile in the legion known for low profiles.

No argel tal? Fuck the faggot who wrote this list, fucking cunt.
>>
>>98663498
He's a literal who in universe
>>
>>98663498
He barely survived the first 1/3 of the Heresy (I love him and his relationship with the Cyrene), but he kind of exists in the larger scale of things to get murdered by Erebus
>>
>>98663252
what did you think he was going to say, Ancient Helveticus?

Took down a fucking custodes (back when they were still all men, so its extra points).

He should ALWAYS be in the top 5 at least. 6 on a BAD day.
>>
>>98663581
Didn't he gangbang one or two custodes with a gaggle of his men, while they were all demonically possessed
Also, you know, he and the rest of the gsl vorbak got wiped by CORAX of all people. He was crutching way hard on demonic downpunching

Argel tal is a literally who Mary sue, anyone killed by erebus is on the list of "garbage that never should have been written", although that list should be longer

Buddy, theres random NL raptors taking custodes down.

Decided to give the sgt paired swords (counts as TLC) because I thought the pose looked neat. Ill do the glaive for a 2nd sgt for if I want to use them as two squads.
>>
>>98663657
Wasnt Tal the first one to do it though (besides MAYBE Alpharius/Omegon, whichever one it might have been, or not, were ALL Alpharius, after all). To me its kind of a "Hey, Tal got one, that means they bleed. That means we CAN kill them, LETS GET EM, BOIS!!!!!!" situation.

And a terminator librarian (using the WB praetor model). Scraped off any of the particularly overt WB iconology so I think thats fine. The runes are just there because he a magic man.

I thought the running overall joke was that Custodes are constantly hyped up and then killed in the most jobber ways possible.
>>
>>98663688
Im going purely on a fixed timeline, not random battles at random times. I THINK Tal was the first OFFICIAL kill. If the Alphy/Omey kill was the first, remember, Malcador and Valdor covered it up.

One really good use for the wet transfer paper I can use to fill out a sheet and get more for the annoyingly high cost of the paper per sheet is custom Bort numbers.

Everyone loves Bort and I came up with an entire bort numbering system that the world eaters would use instead of sentimental names but I shelved it due to a lack of tiny epic scale sized arabic numerals like you got on the old IG tank transfer sheets. Now I can just make a 3 number bort transfer that fit each of my tanks.

Thunder Warriors took down a fair amount of Custodes in their final days, mentioning Valdor made me think of pic related.
>>
>>98663720
Oh, I know about the TWs, wasnt that covered up as well though? Like only the DAs, SWs and maybe a few other space marines or even just primarchs knowing about it?
>>
>>98663730
>wasnt that covered up as well though?
Super well covered up, they still use the name 'Astartes' after all even though it's the name of the one of the oldest traitors. If it was the earliest space marines it was likely either the future Dark Angels or Space Wolves like you said, I lean towards the Wolves because it would corroborate them being executioners even before they met Russ.

It's a really interesting little book, the audio book is great because the interview sections are done like an audio drama with two voice actors, kind of nice to see GW mix between the audio book and audio drama genres.

I also should think of some way to mark out squadron command tanks (I could add radio antennas or something but I mean a hull marking)

Is anything like that ever mentioned/shown in the black books that I could riff off? I can't see any in the modern libers but they didn't collect every example from the black books
>>
>>98663720
God the custodes all look like such dumpy retards. It's like space marines who forgot it's a scifi grim dark setting.

>CORAX of all people.
Corax had to be nerf'd by "stare into the mirror" or he would have had two primarch kills. No non-primarch group or individual could take him. Even in game it was a 50:50 he could kill Horus in 1e before the Blind nerf.
>>
>>98663644
>corax of all people
I know hes a complete bitch on the tabletop currently, but hes a primarch and not a particularly weak one. No shit he managed to bloody the GVB.
>>
>>98663849
Current corax rules might make him a bad duelist, but he's a very mean lawnmower. Can sit outside 18" for both the RG trait and cameleoline, get a guaranteed charge 22" away with no chance to react, then clean up all kinds of infantry with a high amount of attacks from his claws.
>>
>>98663906
Even for just killing dudes hes not the greatest, at least for anything heavier than like, marines. But yea, hes a very mean unit simply because unlike every other primarch hes very fast. And hes still killy enough that he can get shit done (because hes still a primarch)
>>
>>98662393
>Liber Strategica
An actual waste of ink and time to scan. No fluff, barely a showcase, no new art. All the rules are in new recruit. The unique formations are so niche, have preset loadouts, and are expensive to build no one runs them. It's one of THE biggest money grabs GW has pulled in book form.

No one actually needs this book to play.
>>
>>98663912
Also: while he is absolutely not a good duellist "for his weight class" (pretty sure the bog standard tribune is better), he will still beat basically any marine character just because hes S6, T6, has 6 wounds and is EW(2).

Although out of every primarch in the game, hes the one where you can find a way to beat him with astartes. You probably need to contrive some sort of scenario with NL (or maybe Sallies), but its probably doable.
>>
>>98664035
Fun fact, a saturnine praetor (with finishing blow) has around the same chance of killing corax in one round as corax does of killing the saturnine praetor (without a gambit/using decapitation strike)

Obviously not the cleanest comparison or test, but its kinda funny how low damage corax is.

I've just been the Legions Imperialis expansion books. Was GW editorial asleep at the wheel? were the bamboozled?

Instead of generic capture 3 objectives slop that GW usually puts out now. They have fun narrative missions like attackers needing to breach a curtain wall, endless hordes of attackers deploying along a narrow causeway. Things that actually entice people to play. They even recreate one of the best missions from Epic 40,000 Planetary Assault.
>>
>>98663742
wasn't there novel where a group of black shields meets a named thunder warrior and they asked how he is alive since supposedly they all died in the last battle of the unification?
>>
>>98664088
That did take place during the Unification Wars, but I don't think it happened with the thunder warrior cull.

For those who play a homebrewed version of 3.0, what are the changes?
>>
>>98664190
We only changed the rules for area terrein, does that count as homebrew?
>Medium area terrein: 5+ cover, can be seen through but confers a cover save to the unit being shot at in that case
>Heavy area terrein: 4+ cover save, can be seen into and out of, but not through
>>
>>98663720
I bet every custode killed by a marine felt like a chump right before they croaked
>>
>>98664190
>Double Gun/melee get +1 BS or WS
>Flyers can stay zooming or hovering
>Terrain is see in/out/not through
Though we sometimes build warehouses or staging areas full of dense scatter that has the 3" vis.
>Any generic character can take officer gear
>Chaplains get Hatred first new combat
>Knights hit on front armor
We're also debating going back to 1e deepstrike rules and reserves. We also hate the new vehicle table but havent done anything about it.
