Specifically, I'm considering splitting it between letting player pick one major archetype and up to five epitaphs describing the secondary powers.I'm framing it as the archetype and the epitaphs because it feels more flavourful than just using character classes to describe it. Also because I think that it's good to give the players some abilities that describe what's unique about their dark lord besides the raw power. So, the archetypes are basic and cover the broad strokes like Warlord, Deceiver or Archmage, while the epitaphs cover the specific traits like being renowned for skill with the blade, ability to forge wondrous items or the magnetic personality. And yes, I have very specifically designed this system to be able to go full Sauron with giving out others magical gifts with nasty surprises inside.

I'm not sure how much I'll expand the race options, but if I'll have enough energy I'll probably add some modular system for character traits like wings, auras, etc. But that's a stretch goal, I'd rather focus on figuring out the epitaph system rather than trying to make out enough character customisation options for race and monster races.

So I absolutely hate it when authors, often Aromage, force me to go on their railroaded fucking bullshit quests, which I have literally 0 interest in doing. If the quests are optional, which they often aren't, I tend to ignore them completely, unless there are rewards for doing them, then I will begrudgingly do them if the rewards are worth it. That’s not even taking into account that any threat that isn’t able to be physically dealt with can still probably be outsmarted. None of the drawbacks are particularly bad except for Enslaved, which is ok because knights need a lord or lady to serve.
